The Charleston Church Shooting: Dylann Roof
Tumblr media
*NOTE! This is a repost! And it will look familiar CAUSE IVE POSTED IT ON ANOTHER ACCOUNT!! Is it the best? No.*
Early life/ Prior convictions
Dylann was born April 3rd 1994 to mother Amelia and father Franklin with 2 sisters Amber and Morgan. During early childhood his parents would divorce and his father would later remarry. His stepmother accused his father of abuse. He would beg his step mother to let him live with her but she wasn’t able to. Dylann would be described to have obsessive compulsive tendencies with germs. In middle school he would stop caring about school and started smoking weed and drinking vodka. In nine years he would have attended seven schools. In 2010 he would drop out of Highschool and continue playing video games and smoking weed and drinking.
Tumblr media
(The Roofs home)
In 2015 he was caught with an invalid prescription for suboxone at a mall to which he was banned from for a year. Later that year he was caught loitering in the mall to which they searched his car finding a forearm grip for a AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and six unloaded magazines capable of holding 40 rounds each but was let off it was legal in the state. Roofs Suboxone charge was mishandled and a system error took it as a misdemeanour instead of a felony. Which would have possibly prohibited him from purchasing the firearm.
Tumblr media
(The flag of Rhodesia)
Later Dylann would look into the Trayvon Martin case and from an unknown article concluded Zimmerman was in the right. He then fell down a rabbit hole of black on white crime and misinformation. He then found 4chan and would find even more misinformation and hard right ideologies Dylann states he hasn’t been the same since that day. Which leads to his manifesto titled ‘The last Rhodesian’ Rhodesia being the African state founded in 1965 ran by primary Europeans and a white supremacy ideology before being abolished in 1979. The term now sticks with white supremac!sts like Dylann had became, as he also used the flag on his jacket. In preparation before the attack he looked up black churches and found the Emanuel Methodist Episcopal Church and would scout the area and ask around about mass times.
The shooting
Tumblr media
(The Emanuel Methodist Episcopal Church)
June 15th 2015 somewhere around 8:00pm Dylann entered the church, once he did he was greeted by Rev.Pinckney and given a bible to study with. Roof was sat next to Pinckney as the study continued. As the study closed and the ending pray started Roof stood up and pulled out his Glock 41 .45 calibre handgun and began shooting. Killing Pinckney first. Then 26 year old Tywanza Sanders stood up to plead with Dylann before he said ‘I have to do it. You rape our women and you’re taking over our country and you have to go’ he then shot and k!lled Sharonda Singleton, Dr. Daniel L. Simmons, Ethel Lee Lance, Cynthia Hurd, Myra Tompson and Tywanza Sanders. Dylann would reload 5 times that day. Polly Shepherd was spared when he asked her if he shot her yet to which she replied no he then told her ‘good cause we need someone to survive because I’m gonna shoot myself and you’ll be the only survivor. He then turned the gun on himself realizing he was out of ammo. He then left the church to the surprise there wasn’t anyone outside. The next day the police confirmed the gunman was 21 year old Dylann Roof with witnesses reporting they saw him drive towards Shelby, a town close to Charleston. At 10:44am Roof was arrested at a traffic stop in Shelby where it was then confirmed he worked alone.

(The victims)
The Trial
Five days after the shooting the grand jury announced that Roof was being indicted for 33 federal charges.
12 counts hate crime against black people
12 counts obstructing the exercise of religion
9 counts murder using a firearm.
On June 6th Roof reportedly did not want to be trialed by jury and instead let the judge decide if he was guilty and if the death penalty was reasonable. August 23rd Roofs lawyers called the motion of death penalty unconstitutional and asked to reject the motion. On September 1st an on camera hearing was held in case of outbursts. December 7th 2016 the trial started. During a survivor statement Roofs mom collapsed as she had a heart attack. After 3 days of the trial FBI played a video on which he admitted to laughing and drinking while describing to friends how he’d shoot the church. To which his friend didn’t report to police and said he was drunk and took his keys and Glock that was on him. After 2 hours the jury found him guilty on all 33 charges. Roof wanting to plead guilty but told not to by lawyers.

January 10th 2017 Roof was sentenced to the death penalty, death by lethal injection.

I had wanted to go to a Star Trek convention for over 20 years. A couple of years ago I started saving with the plan to attend the 60th anniversary year convention in Las Vegas, and then a few weeks ago I saw an ad for Trek to NJ which was held last weekend, and thought, at last, a convention within reasonable driving distance!
Honestly, the experience was disappointing and I'm now reconsidering if I really want to spend a few thousand dollars in 2026. So my question to convention veterans is, was my experience an outlier? Is the Vegas convention vastly superior to others?
Reasons I found it disappointing:
Lousy communication from Creation in general. Some of this I would know better going forward - I would certainly plan to bring plenty of cash, for instance, but the website lacks a lot of information and the schedule is finalized so close to the convention that it's impossible to plan and buy tickets for extras if you're only planning to attend one day. Seems like the whole experience is designed for people to attend multiple days.
The vendors were disappointingly sparse, other than actors at their tables (Trek to NJ had a lot of actors there).
The panels were chaos. I only saw two (more on that below) and both of them were crashed by other actors. Moderation was sorely needed and I really want to know if this sort of 'sure, whoever wants to drop in can come talk about whatever' is the norm, because to me that was just rude. Lower Decks actors had their own panel right after Jonathan Frakes & Brent Spiner - at that moment people were in the theater area to see that duo, not hear LD actors sing.
Now, one of the big downers for me was not entirely within Creation's control, but their policies certainly didn't help. We don't know exactly what happened but the guess is that Jeri Ryan was struggling that day for some reason. (She referred to Michelle Hurd, who was not supposed to join her time on stage but did and did more of the talking, as her 'emotional support human.') So, the scheduled photo ops with her didn't happen on time.
I'm not at all here to slam Jeri Ryan for that. She's human, people have bad days, and as someone who has my own bad days with mental and emotional health, I think we need to give each other grace.
The thing was, this threw everything off schedule. We waited in line, photo op postponed, more information to be forthcoming. Now here is where I think Creation needed to do better. For one thing, they couldn't tell us right away if or when the photo ops would take place. Okay, it takes time to work out, I get that. But they said "it will be on the screens in the theater." Right. But what about when I'm not in the theater? They had no other way to communicate. I didn't want to miss it because I was in line for other things or browsing at vendors. Then when they did reschedule it, due to waiting in line I missed other things I'd have liked - the costume contest and the first part of Frakes & Spiner - and I had specifically planned the single photo op I bought to not conflict with events I really wanted to see.
So by the time all of this went down, I'd honestly have preferred the option to get a refund and spend the money elsewhere. But Creation only gives refunds if the actor outright cancels. I think that in cases like this, flexibility in their refund policy would go a long way - I personally would have come home a lot happier if I had gotten a refund and been able to enjoy the afternoon events as planned.
(I was in fact so annoyed with the whole experience I didn't even buy a souvenir or two as expected.)
Finally, I felt like there were two options to enjoying yourself. One, you have a lot of money to spend on and a desire to get multiple autographs and/or photo ops with actors. Two, you enjoy sitting and watching whoever comes on stage do or say whatever randomness happens to occur. If you didn't fall into one of those categories, there honestly wasn't much to do.
Was this usual or unusual? Is Star Trek Las Vegas different? If you've actually read to the end, by the way, thank you.

Michelle Hurd confirms in this interview Streaming services believe with their whole chest that people only watch shows with 10-episode seasons and only up to 3 seasons.
This is crazy pants talk to me because a lot of Netflix's hit shows (and we don't have to look far, Suits) are 22 episodes for more than 5 seasons.
I used to believe that all I wanted was all killer and no filler but after experiencing the lean mean 6 to 8 episodes a season, I realized how wrong I was. In fact, I've come to realize I'm not happy with an ongoing TV show having less than 12 episodes.
The discontent started with Thirteen's run in Doctor Who and it just continued on.
And if Netflix points to Netflix-Marvel, it's their fault for enforcing the 'it's an 8-hour movie thing'.
Cases/Monsters of the Week with an overarching arc is the BEST format with around 12-18 episodes. Because then there's time for characters to both develop and have meaningful relationships with each other.
Sometimes the magic happens because TV shows need time to fill episode air time. Just like the popular 'rootbeer' talk between Garak and Quark.
youtube
It adds so much to both their characters and Ferengi and Cardassian's point of view on the Federation and Humans.
Please for the love of everything, give us shows with more than 10 episodes.

Spencer reid imagine- broken
i have just watched the episode where maeve just died and watched the next part where reid is on the floor and is not okay. so I had inspiration to write so here it goes.
summary: Your super close to reid and maeve has just died, you go over to his to give your undeniable support and some words between the two of you are exchanged. Oh and your dereks sister
words: 1,305
Tumblr media
“Come on Y/n, you know maeve has just died. He’s not going to be okay” Derek says through the phone
“I know, but I feel helpless. Can you just come over, bring ice cream. You know the one mama used to buy us, when we were good and deserved a treat. The one she bought us lots of us when dad passed”
“yes. yes. I’ll bring it over. But we have a case first, get your ass over to the bullpen now.”
“but...”
“pretty boy will be just fine, we’ll go after we’ve finished this case”
“okay okay. Love you bro.”
“love you too sis.”
⋆。°✩
“there’s my favourite morgan sibling” Penelope says as I’m walking into the roundtable and sit down next to Derek.
“ERR, Hey babygirl. What about me?”
“yes, yes. well, she’s You know-” Penelope, quickly gets cut off by Hotch walking into the room.
“Garcia, we’re all here on with the case please”
“of course sir,  Meet who was formerly Gary Porter. He was found d*ad outside a San Francisco night club last night. And Pamela Hurd-- she was found near a cable car stop in San Francisco's Mission District.”
“They were both found wrapped in clear plastic.” Jj says looking over the case file on her tablet “It says here they were d*ad only a few hours before they were found. That's not long enough for the elements to have made them that pale” I say from where I’m sitting next to my brother pointing it out.
“Cause that's where we enter the town of weirdville on the corner of eew and icky-icky, girl morgan. Both victims were almost completely drained of their blood. Less than a pint left.”
“He's exsanguinating them.” I say with question, trying to get all the details on the unsub we can from the MO
“While they were still alive.” hotch finishes for me.
“It might be utilitarian” derek says from besides me.
“He needs them alive so they can pump out the blood themselves. Draining a body like that is extremely hard to do. Once the heart stops pumping, it's difficult to continue to extract the blood.”
“So the question is, how is he doing it?” I ask.
“Oh, I wish you wouldn't have asked that, lovely 'cause now I gotta show this picture.” Garcia says from the right of me.
“There are large bore holes in the femoral artery of each victim.” Hotch says from the back of the room.
“Our unsub could have medical knowledge.” JJ says from where she’s sat
“It's possible. We'll know more when we get there. Wheels up in 30.” Hotch says before leaving the room.
⋆。°✩
it didnt take no more than a few days to catch the unsub, it was pretty easy. he was obsessed with painting with blood though, taking the blood out of the victims. but with all of our intelligence as a team we managed to put another unsub away.
“der, I’m worried about reid. he hasn’t shown up at all I would’ve at least thought he’d have shown and help us catch the victim”
“Y/n, you can’t blame him. someone he loves, just died. right infront of him, thats unfair of you to say that. We’re all worried about him. Come on, let’s go and get that icecream and bring it to pretty boy”
⋆。°✩
“Reid, your favourite morgans are here. We bought Ice cream too. the good kind” I said after knocking on his apartment door.
“pretty boy, we’re both here for you open up reid. don’t make me kick your door down.” derek talks through the door, after a few minutes of silence.
that soon makes Reid open the door.
“I knew that would make you open the door.”
“hmm, well if you had kicked my door down. You’d be paying for the replacement”
“Yeah, well. I would’ve done it myself. Now let us in, we’ve come over here to cheer you up”
⋆。°✩
“why’d you even come anyway. It’s not like I need any company anyway, can’t be the best person to hang around at the moment.” Reid says to me putting the empty Ice cream tub down along with both our spoons. Derek had soon passed out, he always does within the first 15 minutes of a romantic movie.
“You’re always the best person to hang out with Spence. You just get me you know. Was weird not having you on this weeks case I won’t lie to you”
“mmh, yeah well. My girlfriend just died. And infront of me too.”
“I know I know. Trust me I know more than you think.”
“I highly doubt that”
“yeah well, not many people know this. Not even my brother. My boyfriend of 6 years died, right infront of my eyes. shot at and killed by a known serial killer In the area, we we’re trying to catch him for months, then when I got the call. I couldn’t bare to face the town anymore, the very same town that I was chief of police of, the very same town, my fiance was shot and killed in. I Quit my job I wouldn’t go out for weeks. Stuck in my apartment for days on end, wouldn’t talk to anyone, I just sat in silence most days, slept on the sofa. Then Der, he told me he was coming down. I had to pull myself together, If not for my own sake. Then for dereks, cindi had just gone missing I couldn’t let him see me like that because I just knew it would break him. So I pulled myself together, there was an opening at the Bureau and I just had to take it, little did I know it was for the very same department that would help me catch my boyfriends killer my very first case at the bau, give me a chance to get some closure, Garcia asked me if that one of the victims was my boyfriend, I said no that we had broken up before then, that he had moved out. It was a complete lie, but it kept my heart safe.”
“Y/N I had no idea.” reid says
“Look reid, all I’m trying to say is that take the time you need, but living like this is not going to fix the pain thats going on in here” I say pointing to my heart.
“but we’ll be here every step of the way with you, whether that be donating our holidays so that we can help you get the closure you need. Because in the end the pain of losing a loved one wont go, but you learn to move on and whether that takes one week, one day, one month, one year. she’ll be with you always.”
“thank you Y/n, I think I needed that.”
“Don’t worry about it reid, I love you always pretty boy” and he goes into kiss me but I duck back
“shit! I’m sorry. I’ve read all this wrong haven’t I.”
“No, No. You haven’t read it all wrong. I just don’t think it’s the right time reid, your girlfriends just died. I’ll wait though. I can wait. I’ve waited 8 years, I can wait 8 more. I’ll wait for all the time in the world for you”
“thank you Y/n”
“No worries. I’m gonna go now, it’s not to do with you. I have to get back to sergio. I promised em, I would take care of him when she left for england. Keep me company. defo should not have told her about what happened with michael.”
“so who knows then, You, emily and my therapist”
“Y/n!”
“what?”
“nothing, you should take derek with you”
“yeah, yeah okay. I’ll wake him up”
“der, der” I say shaking him
“yeah yeah. I’m up, coming, Bye reid.”
“bye”

Reposted from my reblog of this post:
—-
This is probably the only time I’m posting stuff about the godforsaken US elections, but I just need to chime in.
The jokes never sit right with me. Especially the fact that they are made by people who are in no danger of being dehumanised because of their race/ethnicity/immigration status. It’s not even a case of people who are truly affected making the jokes as a coping mechanism of some sorts. You can guess, it’s mostly white Westerners (yes, not just US Americans) making the jokes all in the name of ‘owning Trump’.
Because somehow talking shit about him is more important than creating a safe space for marginalised people. Yeah fucking right.
You’d expect people who claim to be liberals and progressives to easily understand why this sentiment, even when said as a joke, is harmful. Remember when years ago these people were all about how no human is illegal and that immigrants shouldn’t be demonised?
In a much less jokey manner, some prominent US liberals have had no problem using the term ‘illegals’ to attack Trump’s immigration policy. Including claiming that he is letting ‘millions of illegals’ into the country. If they didn’t mention Trump’s name, you’d easily expect them to be your typical RWNJs instead of someone claiming to be a liberal/progressive.
Michelle Hurd, who is known for her ‘activism’ among the Star Trek fandom, quite recently reposted a video made by a well-known liberal content creator about how Trump is at fault for ‘letting millions of illegals into the US’ on her Instagram story and added the caption, “THIS!” It’s one thing to repost, but it’s another to add something indicating that you endorse the sentiment.
And this is someone who is known in the fandom as an ‘activist’ and for being loud about how much she hates the Republicans.
Remember when these people were screaming from the top of their lungs about how no human is illegal, how no children should be in cages, how immigrants shouldn’t be demonised etc?
Today they’ll easily throw all of that out of the window so that they can parrot bigoted talking points and use dehumanised terms such as ‘illegals’ just to ‘own Trump’ and ‘rattle Republicans’.
What’s next? Which other marginalised group(s) that they claim to care about are they going to throw under the bus someday just because they’ve found a reason to use them to rattle Trump and his cult? Muslims? Arabs?
Or maybe that’s what these people, Hurd included, have always believed all along. They just didn’t think about using it to dunk on Trump until recently.
Maybe that’s what you have always believed all along. You just feel safe masking it as a joke, knowing that it wouldn’t affect you in the slightest.

Short sum for newbie system designer processor steps
Tumblr media
Here are a few beginner projects for learning the ropes of customized computation architecture design:
Pana, a '4-4-4' instruction processor derived from Intersil 6100 & GaryExplains' but for 4-bit data. Uses the sixteen (16) RISC instructions shown by GaryExplains and only four (4) of its registers (ACC, PC, LN & MQ) as per of the Intersil 6100 specification. Doing as much work onto nibbles like an MVP Intel 4004 can, great as a BCD & Nibble data converter for later designs.
Tina, a barely expanded '4-4-8' processor derived from the "Pana" design, it uses more registers by adding twelve general-use registers (A-F, U-Z letters) and operate onto a single byte of data at a time. Great for two nibbles operations, byte-wise interoperability and 8-bit word compatibility with all sorts of modern processors from the seventies-onwards.
Milan, a '6-2-24' strong hybrid 8-bit / 12-bit processor derived from the "Tina" design, operating onto three bytes or two tribbles of data at once depending of use-case, while fitting in exactly 32-bit per instruction. Aimed at computing three 8-bit units, enabling 16-bit & 24-bit compatibility as well as up to two tribble operands. A great MVP implementation step towards my next own tribble computing architecture and a competitor to the Jack educational computer as shown in the NAND2Tetris courseware book.
When I am done with such, I will be onto three tribble-oriented architectures for lower-end, middle-end and upper-end "markets". Zara being lower-end (6-bit opcode, 6-bit register & 36-bit data = 48-bit instructions), Zorua being mid-end (8-bit opcode, 8-bit register and 48-bit data = 64-bit instructions) and Zoroark being upper-end (12-bit opcode, 36-bit register and 96/144-bit data (so either eight or twelve tribble operands worth of data) = 144/192-bit instructions, aiming to emulate close enough to an open-source IBM's PowerISA clone with VLIW & hot-swap computer architecture).
By the way, I haven't forgotten about the 16^12 Utalics game consoles and overall tech market overview + history specifications, nor have I forgotten about studying + importing + tinkering around things like Microdot & Gentoo & Tilck. I simply need to keep a reminder to myself for what to do first when I shall start with the computation engineering process. Hopefully that might be interesting for you to consider as well... Farewell!
EDIT #1
youtube
Tweaked and added some additional text & considering studying various aspects of Linux and overall copyleft / open source culture engineering scene, especially over Gentoo alternative kernels & hobby / homebrew standalone operating systems (GNU Hurd, OpenIndiana, Haiku... as well as niche ones like ZealOS, Parade, SerenityOS...) as to design a couple computation ecosystems (most derived from my constructed world which takes many hints from our real-life history) and choosing one among them to focus my implementation efforts onto as the "Nucleus" hybrid modular exo-kernel + my very own package modules collection. (Still aiming to be somewhat compatible with existing software following Unix philosophy principles too as to ease the developer learning cost in initial infrastructure compatibility & overall modularized complexity; Might also use some manifestation tips & games to enrich it with imports from said constructed world if possible)

Revelation 7:16-17
Bumblebees and badgers, lions and skunks, black bears and beagles all have one thing in common: If threatened, they attack. But that’s not the case with lambs.
In the Bible, they’re usually mentioned in the context of a sacrificial offering. For example, at the time of the Passover, God rescued His people from Egyptian slavery through lamb’s blood. Imagine the disciples’ shock when John the Baptist introduced Jesus as “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
Ours is a strange story. Christianity is the only religion with a God who, in love and for love, subjected Himself to be sacrificed at the hand of His own creatures. Of course, Jesus the vulnerable Lamb is also the Mighty One who rules, judges, and triumphs (Revelation 5:6; Revelation 14:9-11; Revelation 17:14)—but even then, He is “the Lamb who has been slain” (Revelation 13:8).
It’s a valiant and unique story—of broken people who have sunk so deep in sin that we cannot lift ourselves out. Someone had to come and rescue us from our self-imposed bondage, even if it meant dying in our place. And that is exactly what our Savior did. Jesus, the lion who came as a lamb, willingly gave His life for us.

Dreams Mental illness impacts all areas of a person's life, from social interactions to self-perception, from cognitive functioning to spiritual belief systems. Dreams are no exception. Every person spends a good deal of time in the dreaming state, whether or not dreams are recalled or valued upon awakening. A person's sleep state is impacted by a number of factors ranging from the biological to the emotional. When mental illness affects a person's life, it includes the large portion of life that takes place in the sleep state. Neurochemical processes, linked to emotionality, cognition, and behavior, may also have an effect on the content -- both manifest and latent -- of dreams. Similarly, the content of dreams could change a person's emotional state and subsequent neurochemistry. Generally, if mental illness affects waking life, then it must also impact dreams. The nature of the impact will be qualitatively different depending on the type and severity of the mental disorder, due to the great diversity between the different disorders classified by clinical studies. Just as dream analysis and proactive dream therapy can be used for the general population, there is also evidence suggesting that dream therapy can be an important component of clinical therapy for those who suffer from mental illnesses of all types. "People who suffer with mental illness often also have arousal disorders, which can increase the likelihood of hallucinations at sleep onset, and may increase the chance to have a lucid dream due to increased awakenings throughout the night," (Hurd 1). At the same time, "being sleep deprived, stressed, drugged or physically exhausted" can cause hallucinations that make up for a lack of rapid-eye movement (REM) sleep stages (Hurd 1). Not all mental illnesses include arousal disorders, as unipolar depression may inhibit cohesive and well developed dreams altogether (Cartwright, Baehr, Kirkby, Pandi-Perumal and Kabat). Therefore, it is critical to differentiate between different mental illnesses in the study of dreams rather than generalize, as it is impossible to generalize about dreams in the general population as well. There is also the question of which came first, the mental disorder or the sleep/dream disturbances. As Purse points out, "psychiatric disorders are common in sleep disorder patients, and disturbed sleep often afflicts patients with psychiatric disorders," (1). The directionality of the relationship, and even the causality, have yet to be determined in clinical psychiatric literature. However, there are some factors that distinguish the phenomenology of dreams in those with clinical mental disorders vs. those who do not have the diagnosis of a mental disorder. Mood disorders present a good case in point. Much research has been conducted on the relationship between bipolar disorder and dreaming. Bipolar disorder, characterized by major and intense mood and behavioral swings, has an especially noticeable and measurable impact on sleep and dream patterns. The difference between depression cycle and manic cycle sleep and dream phenomena reveals how the brain manifests different dreams at different times, potentially in line with neurochemical and neurobiological changes. "People with bipolar disorder have extra-vivid dreams and an inordinate number of nightmares or other sleeping disorders," (Purse 1). Likewise, "bipolar patients report bizarre dreams with death and injury themes before their shift to mania," and the "dreams of bipolar depressed patients have more anxiety than those of unipolar patients," (Purse 2). Dreams can be used as a benchmark or signal for those with bipolar, helping people to recognize the onset of a manic stage and adjust medication or treatment interventions accordingly. Unipolar mood disorders, such as clinical depression, also impacts dreams. Depending on the severity of the clinical depression, the dreams will be affected. Some depressed individuals have dreams that parallel their flattened emotional affect, with "bland" dreams (DeKoninck 160). Other depressed persons, such as those who manifest self-hating or self-harming behaviors, may have dreams with masochistic manifest content (DeKoninck). It is as if the dream state is mimicking the waking state and allowing in fact for the expression of desires that are taboo, as Freud might point out. Depression is associated strongly with sleep disorder in general, and has been linked with insomnia. Insomnia may result in sleep deprivation, which directly reduces the amount of time spent in REM sleep, the stage during which dreaming takes place. If less time is spent in non-REM sleep, then it makes sense that the depressed person's sleep will be characterized by a greater proportion of dreams and improved dream recall due to the shallow sleep of the REM state. Research substantiates these theories, as "people suffering from depression also report more dreams than average. This would be true even among patients who experience insomnia and other depression-related sleep disorder symptoms. In fact, people who are clinically depressed may dream three or four times as much," (Hurd "The Link Between Depression and Dreams" 1). It should be noted, however, that dream recall does not necessarily correspond with actual time spent in the dream or REM state, or indicate the manifest content of a person's dreams. In any case, there are proven links between clinical depression and differential dream states and dream patterns. Pharmacological interventions used to treat mental disorders will also have a strong bearing on dream patterns and dream content. Therefore, researchers must take care to value the role that pharmacological interventions play when evaluating the dreams of patients with mental illness. Likewise, patients with mental illness as well as substance abuse problems could have dreams that are related to their substance use even more so than the mental illness. In any case, patients taking medications to treat their mood disorders might also experience changes in their dreaming patterns. For example, patients taking anti-depressants, and in particular, tricyclics, remember their dreams less often than people who are not taking these medications to treat depression (Schimelpfening). Whether or not dreaming less often correlates with reduced symptomology of clinical depression remains to be seen. It is important to pay attention to the link between dreams and mental illness because of the correlations between suicidality and sleep disturbances as well as the known link between antidepressant medications and suicidal ideation (Cukrowicz et al.). Dream awareness may be used to help persons with clinical depression monitory their cognitions and affect. The dream research conducted by Sigmund Freud initiated a revolutionary view of the phenomena related to neurosis. In patients with neuroses, "neuroticism was correlated positively with aversive dreams, more incorporation from waking life, and personal significance of dreams," (Aumann, Lahl and Pietrowsky 124). Dreams can be used to gauge neurosis too, especially because dreams can affect waking life. For example, McNamara suggests that, "dreams have a significant role to play in shaping interactions between people," because dreams shape self-image, attitudes, and emotions (1). The link between mental states and dream states is bidirectional, meaning that dreams influence states of mind and states of mind also influence dreams. There could be a feedback loop that both creates and reflects neurosis. Paying more attention to dreams could unlock mysteries to mental illness, just as mental illness may unlock mysteries of dreams. This is why Freud and his contemporaries like Carl Jung spent a good deal of their research studying dreams. Dreams may not be related at all to emotional states or chemistry, but could point to a unified theory of consciousness that shows that mental illness is itself an illusion. In The Dream Drugstore, Hobson suggests that the Freud-based theories of dream interpretation and psychoanalysis are wrong in that they suggest binaries between dream and waking state, neuroses and health. In reality, "dreaming, dissociative states, psychosis, and drug-induced hallucinations" are all "functions of brain chemistry and that replaces the psychodynamic view of dreams," (Diamond 90). The brain is fused with the mind, and emotion with thought. Eric Fromm points out that dreams are often universal markers revealing a collective unconsciousness. The language of dreams is similar to the language of myth, as well as to the language of hallucinations and shamanic states of being. Mental illness, viewed as part of a spectrum of human experience rather than as a negative mind state, can be used to showcase the powers of the brain and mind. Schizophrenia and schizotypical disorders can be fruitful to study, for they reveal alternative mechanisms of mind such as hallucinations and other waking dream realities. Human beings have not always drawn as sharp a line between mental health and mental illness; nor between waking and dreaming. As DeKoninck points out, dreams were "not distinguished from waking reality and could lead to erroneous behaviors," in some people with so-called "primitive" worldviews (150). The schizotypic or schizophrenic patient likewise does not distinguish between the dream states and the waking realities that he or she shares with peers. Delusions and hallucinations correspond with dreaming, which can influence daily decisions. In some cultures, dreams could be used as a means of making important political decisions (DeKoninck). The unique confluence of waking and dreaming states in the mind of the schizophrenic with positive features like hallucination has a direct bearing on dreams, with schizophrenics actually reporting "very little hallucinatory content" theoretically because the hallucinatory content is already present in the mind of the waking state person (DeKonick 160). One mental disorder that has been researched with regard to its effect on dreams is post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). "The reexperiencing of a traumatic event in the form of repetitive dreams, memories, or flashbacks is one of the cardinal manifestations of posttraumatic stress disorder ("Sleep Disturbance as the Hallmark of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder" 697). These findings correlate findings related to neurosis, in which incorporation of events from daily life into dreams can create anxiety dreams and aversion dreams. The trigger event plays itself out over and over in the mind of the sufferer of PTSD, both in waking and dream life. For example, research on the neurophysiology of animals shows that central nervous system responses that lead to the genesis of REM sleep also are linked to the "classical startle response," and this is akin to the startle behavior commonly described in PTSD patients." ("Sleep Disturbance as the Hallmark of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder" 697). Any mental illness, like PTSD, that has a strong emotional as well as cognitive component, is likely to have a stronger impact on dreaming than mental illnesses without a strong triggering emotional component. This is because dreams are related directly to emotion, and particularly negative emotions coupled with the presence of external or waking life stimuli may in fact cause the genesis of dreams (DeKoninck). Interestingly, research shows that acute stress, as opposed to PTSD and anxiety disorders, can suppress dream recall (DeKoninck). This apparently conflicts with the high arousal state experienced by bipolar and PTSD patients, showing that mental illness may indeed affect dreaming in ways that the non-mentally ill do not experience even when acute stress is a variable. There are also personality trait factors, unrelated to personality disorders like narcissistic or borderline personality disorders, that are related to dream content, ability to recall dreams, and dream patterns (DeKoninck). Most correlations between dream recall frequency and personality traits like extraversion/introversion, anxiety, dependence, openness to experience, and boundary thickness have revealed no statistically significant results. Of these traits, the boundary thickness or thinness is the personality trait factor most strongly correlated with dreaming in the research. Thin boundaries mean that a person more open, trusting, and vulnerable, and also has a richer fantasy life vs. The average person or the person with thick boundaries. A thick boundary person will be rigid, and "do not differentiate clearly between thoughts and feelings," (DeKoninck160). Thin boundary persons have dreams that are more emotional and with greater potential for nightmares (DeKoninck). Auhmann, Lahl, and Pietrowsky likewise found that thin boundary people have dreams that are more personally meaningful vs. those with thick boundaries. The clinical use of dreams in people with mental illness is a fascinating field of research that transcends the typically shallow insight into cognitive functioning. Applying a contemporary revision of shamanic practices to dreaming, a practitioner can aid a person to confront fears and anxieties. For example, a person with PTSD can be helped in therapy using multimodal and holistic practice. By having the person record his or her dreams over the course of several weeks or months, the therapist helps the individual take control of the contents of his or her psyche and reactions to stress. Coping mechanisms express themselves in dream life as well as waking life. Exploring the dream world provides a set of keys and symbols to the subconscious processes operating in waking life, which may give rise to symptoms like panic attacks or bouts of anger and anxiety. Keeping a dream journal, the person can then discuss the content and emotionality of the dreams in therapy. Through the discussion of the dreams in therapy, the person will be rehashing the anxiety to the point where the person may be able to eliminate the need for medications. Factors that influence dreams in addition to the presence or absence of mental illness include neurophysiological organization, cognitive organization, intellectual capacity, maturity, past experiences, culture, gender, personality, memory, concerns, mood, presleep experiences, and stimulations in the environment during sleep (DeKoninck). The relationship between dreams and mental illness is not as direct and obvious as expected. Some persons with mental illness, like those with schizophrenia, do not have vivid dreams, whereas those with bipolar disorder do. Yet depression is linked to nightmares and night terrors, showing that some mental illnesses can lead to dreams that manifest the contents of subconscious fears even when other mental illnesses lead to dreams that parallel flattened affect (Purse). Much of the phenomena may be related to brain chemistry. The brain may give rise to the mind, which is an illusion, and which is also why pharmacological interventions can alter cognitive and sleeping states (Diamond). There are some disorders that reveal the intimate and complex connection between brain, mind, and body. For example, isolated sleep paralysis (ISP) has been commonly confused with some types of mental illness because of the link between ISP and night terrors (Nielsen and Zadra). Disruptions of emotional states lead to sleep state disruptions with waking state consequences. Dreams also have a potent linguistic component, in which analyzing a dream verbally as in therapy can lead to an understanding of the latent content of that dream and aide with an understanding of the underlying emotional mechanisms. Thus, dreams can be used as part of clinical recovery and treatment for mental disorders. The study of dreams should include attention paid to the potentially therapeutic function of dreams as vehicles to express challenging cognitive or emotional content. If persons with mental illness can train themselves to dream lucidly, or at least to recall dreams with greater frequency, then perhaps the social and psychological functioning of those individuals may improve. It may also be helpful to research the genetic component of mental illness, as it correlates to the genetic component of dream patterns. Different mental illnesses will have differential impacts on the quality of sleep and dreams. Mental illness spans a broad and diverse range of conditions, and the list is continually changing depending largely on the whims of psychiatric research and its attendant conflicts of interest with the pharmaceutical industry. Dreams rarely feature prominently in the types of psychiatric research that give rise to clinical studies, due to the nebulous nature of dream research and the positivist nature of research on pharmacology. The bible of the psychiatric institution, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual is being revised each year, often by adding or removing disorders. Conveniently labeling individuals with symptoms can be counterproductive to healing, but is conducive to the capitalistic model embedded in psychiatry. Applying research on mental illness to research on dreams can be complicated and contradictory. Mental illness is not monolithic, and nor is any one mental disorder. Clinical depression will express itself differently in each person, for example. It is important to note that the connection between mental illness and dreams is tenuous. When exceptional dreams are reported, it does not signal the presence of mental illness. Some people with mental illnesses like depression and schizophrenia report boring dreams, but others do not. Stress and anxiety may give rise to dreams that are also filled with anxiety and stress, but sometimes the dream state may offer opportunities for healing. It is technically impossible to compare the dreams of normal people with those with mental illness because there is no such thing as a normal person, and no standard dream format, structure, or content of a dream in any cohort. Although there are some measurable differences between the dreams of some mentally ill persons with some mental illnesses, and some persons without mental illnesses who may erroneously be called normal, it is impossible to generalize. Dreams are a universal phenomena, affecting animals as well as human beings. Thus, dreams serve a universal biological and cognitive function. The cause of dreams and the cause of mental illness might in fact be related to the same neurobiological and chemical factors, given that many dream symbols transcend personal background and culture. Yet others do not, showing that there are individual differences with regard to dreaming. Mental illnesses may give rise to a more complex, or more staid dream state but more research is needed to connect dream to waking realities and provide a master key to understanding both. 1. the character everyone gets wrong
WELL i feel like there are many such cases of this,,,though i suppose in any big fandom tht will be the case, statistically speaking. the dsmp probably feels so so extra bad in this department bcs it's a truly unique medium in the way ppl don't fucking watch or engage w it before making what the make 💀 which is well. yknow. idk if i can even pin one guy down rn because everyday i log on and it hurds so bad. ibuprofen img please just watch it w me please just search up a transcript. what about us. what about trust

25. common fandom complaint you're sick of hearing
WHEN PPL GET MAD ABT "CTOMMY MAIN CHARACTER"ISMS, oouiirgrgjjkgh don't get me started i'll chase everybody with worms. first of all: every character has their own unique pov and you can literally just watch that instead of complaining sm other guy is "overshadowing them" by just existing. lol. other povs are crucial to a full understanding of the dsmp and it's context but to act like ppl are putting a gun to your head and not letting you like blorbo3 or blorgiC is ridiculous to me...was cbad not the main character of the egg? was cq not the main character in lnv? get real. and secondly: ctommy is such a "main character" for ppl because he's tied into many many many storylines 💀 he engages and talks to and matters to a lot of ppl/heavy lore hitters so that's why he's around a lot. so i feel if you complain abt him being a centerpiece to the story yr being 1. deliberately obtuse, 2. showing tht yjust hate tommy and could very well be watching the pov of yr character of choice w/o punching down at THE BEST CHARACTER. like him or don't like him theres nothing you can do bcs he's #1.
(and to be clear, there are actually things to complain abt with mc pov bias or other players getting ignored, specifically in the context of women or poc but. wow the convo doesn't ever seem to drift there and instead it's ppl getting mad ctommy has friends who like him. wonder why that is lol lol lmao.)
13. worst blorbofication

Mycelium Market Analysis: Key Applications & Strategic Footsteps
Tumblr media
In an era where consumers are mindful of the environmental impact of their choices, there is a growing focus on sustainability. This awareness has entered various industries, with consumers increasingly seeking organic and vegan-based products. From packaging to F&B, mycelium has emerged as a versatile choice. For instance, its incorporation in alternate meat, food flavors, and dairy alternatives caters to a rising preference for low-fat, low-cholesterol options. Triton’s report estimates that the global mycelium market is expected to witness growth at a CAGR of 7.66% over the 2023-2030 forecast years.
Additionally, heightened awareness surrounding animal cruelty in product processing and testing, particularly in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, has led to a global surge in veganism. This shift in consumer preferences is anticipated to drive demand for mushroom-based alternatives, including bacon, steak, and various plant-based products.
Although mycelium initially found significant use in food and beverage products, its utilization has since broadened to various other sectors.
Mycelium-Induced Products: Viable & Ecological Alternative
1.   Widening Prospects in Food & Beverage:
The rising inclination towards organic and natural ingredients has boosted mycelium demand, responding to a growing demand for chemical-free preservatives and flavor enhancers. Mushroom-based products are expanding the horizon of functional foods, aligning with the heightened focus on immunity. Besides, alcoholic and non-alcoholic categories are experiencing a mushroom-based revolution. For example, MUD/WTR, a US-based startup, is crafting coffee powder from mycelium. Several players are also researching to develop mycelium-based fermentation for vegan beer production. For the growing vegan community, mycelium mycoprotein is a game-changer, enabling the industry to embrace vegan raw materials across various consumables. Our estimates indicate that the food and beverage sector dominates the market in terms of application, attaining $1754.92 million in 2022.
In terms of form, pre-formed lead the market in 2022 and is expected to register a CAGR of 7.69% during 2023-2030.
Pre-formed mycelium, when cultivated on organic substrates, assumes diverse forms. Its adaptability lies in the unique binding properties that allow it to develop into various textures resembling food products, packaging materials, etc. In the case of plant-based food, this mold’s blocks are sliced into thin pieces, mirroring the texture and taste of meat, as seen in Atlast’s MyBacon, introduced in 2020.
2.   Rising Utility in Packaging:
The packing sector is expected to witness the fastest growth based on application at a CAGR of 7.85% during 2023-2030. Its heavy reliance on Styrofoam and Polystyrene has prompted various countries to fully or partially ban these materials due to environmental pollution. On this front, mushroom-based packaging materials, utilizing agricultural waste like hemp hurds and cotton keels, offer a promising alternative. Stringent regulations on plastics, especially in countries like the US and Canada, are expected to benefit the North America mycelium market.
Further, mycelium’s lightweight nature, ease of production, and versatility make it a cost-competitive alternative to polystyrene foam. Unlike traditional petroleum-based materials, processed mycelium boasts toughness and flame resistance, making it valuable for multiple applications, including packaging. Our estimates indicate processed mycelium is set to be the fastest growing category at 7.73% based on nature over 2023-2030.
Contender Strategies: Latest in Mycelium Market
The market is experiencing a gradual rise in competition among existing players, a trend that is expected to continue. Competition is primarily fueled by innovation, product distinctiveness, and cost efficiency. Established companies hold a certain advantage due to their technological expertise and established market presence.
In September 2023, Meati opened a direct-to-consumer online storefront to support easy deliveries.
Chinova Bioworks, in June 2023, launched MycoKleer, a vegan fining agent, to improve efficiency during the cleaning process of beverages.
In June 2023, MyForest Foods Co, producer of mycelium-based meat alternatives, raised $15 million in Series A-2 funding to support its growing product distribution.
In May 2023, Chinova Bioworks included its first mushroom fiber in Whole Foods Market’s approved ingredient list.
Prospective Growth: Utility in Pharmaceutical and Beauty
