Hi everyone. I’m here to talk about hygiene. My name is Mari, I’m 32 and I’m from Finland.
Hygiene is one of my biggest interests right now. I try to maintain proper hygiene at all times but I also have bad days. I have a long history with different mental disorders and even though I’m not depressed anymore, everything I went through affects me to this day. For example, I don’t shower every day but I’ve been getting into the habit of at least washing my feet and downstairs area every day. That plus brushing my teeth every night is something I aim to do every day no matter what. No matter how tired or lazy I am.
I hope you’ll enjoy my blog if you do decide to start following my journey with hygiene and taking care of myself better. I would really appreciate it. 🫶🏻 I aim to show a realistic side of everyday hygiene and encourage you to take care of yourself too. I have an instagram page for hygiene too but I’ve grown tired of ig even though the hygiene community is a lot bigger over there. I’ve used tumblr for many many many years and thought it would be the best place for my blog for now.

Personal hygiene is a crucial aspect of daily life that often goes overlooked. Neglecting personal hygiene can have serious consequences for our overall health and well-being. It can also impact how we are perceived by others in our social and professional lives. Unfortunately, many people make hygiene mistakes without even realizing it.
Here are 10 personal hygiene mistakes you need to stop making.
1. Taking Hot Showers Taking hot showers may feel relaxing and refreshing, but it can actually be a hygiene mistake. Hot water can strip the skin of its natural oils, which can lead to dryness, irritation, and even inflammation. Hot showers can also cause the skin to lose its protective barrier, making it more vulnerable to bacteria, viruses, and other harmful microorganisms. Instead of taking hot showers, it's recommended to stick to warm or cool water and to limit shower time to no more than 10-15 minutes. Additionally, moisturizing the skin after showering can help restore its natural oils and improve overall hygiene.
2. Using Soap Every Day While soap does help to remove dirt, sweat, and oil from our skin, excessive use can strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and vulnerable to infection. It's essential to strike a balance between cleanliness and preserving the skin's natural barrier. Instead of using soap every day, opt for a gentle cleansing alternative like water or non-soap cleansers when you don't need to remove dirt and sweat.
3. Not Changing Your Toothbrush for a Long Time You might think that using the same toothbrush for months is no biggie, but it can actually harm your oral health. Over time, the bristles of your toothbrush can become frayed and worn out, which reduces their cleaning effectiveness. Plus, bacteria and germs can build up on the bristles over time, which could lead to infections or illnesses. So, it's a good idea to replace your toothbrush every three to four months or even sooner if you've been sick. Not only will your teeth feel cleaner, but you'll also reduce your risk of getting sick from icky germs lurking in old toothbrushes.
4. Washing Your Face After a Workout While it may seem like a good idea to wash away sweat and oils, it is actually better to let your skin rest and recover after a workout. When we exercise, our skin becomes flushed and may be more susceptible to irritation from harsh cleansers. Washing your face too soon after a workout can disrupt the natural balance of oils on your skin and cause dryness or breakouts. To maintain healthy skin after a workout, it is best to wait at least 30 minutes before washing your face and use a gentle cleanser designed for sensitive skin.
5. Exfoliating Too Often Exfoliating can be beneficial by removing dead skin cells and revealing a brighter complexion. However, over-exfoliating can damage the skin by stripping away its protective barrier. This can lead to dryness, sensitivity, irritation, and even breakouts. It is recommended to exfoliate no more than once or twice a week, depending on skin type and sensitivity. It is also important to choose gentle exfoliants and not to scrub too hard. Proper exfoliating can improve skin health, but it should be done in moderation and with care.
6. Skipping Flossing Your Teeth While brushing your teeth is definitely important, it only cleans the surfaces of your teeth. Flossing reaches the areas in between your pearly whites where plaque and bacteria can build up, leading to cavities and even gum disease. So next time you're tempted to skip flossing because you're tired or in a hurry, think twice! Set aside a few extra minutes in your routine to ensure that you've covered all of your bases when it comes to dental hygiene.
7. Using Cotton Swabs Although it may feel satisfying to clean your ears with a cotton swab, it's actually a bad idea because it pushes earwax further into the ear canal and can cause damage to the eardrum. Instead, use a damp cloth or ear drops to clean your ears, and avoid inserting anything into your ear canal. Remember that our bodies are naturally equipped to clean themselves, and interfering with the process can do more harm than good.
8. Covering Your Mouth with Your Hand When You Sneeze or Cough Covering your mouth with your hand when coughing or sneezing may seem like a simple and harmless act, but it is actually a hygiene mistake that can lead to the spread of germs. When you cover your mouth with your hand, the germs from your respiratory tract get transferred to your hands which can then contaminate any surfaces you touch or be transmitted to other people through direct contact. Instead, it is recommended to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the tissue immediately after use. If you don't have access to tissues, cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow rather than onto your hands. These small changes in behavior can go a long way in preventing the spread of illness-causing germs and keeping yourself and those around you healthy.
9. Not Cleaning Your Fingernails Fingernails can be a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and viruses, which can lead to infections or diseases. It is essential to clean them regularly, using a nail brush, to remove any dirt or bacteria that may have accumulated under the nails. Neglecting to clean fingernails can also cause bad odors, which can affect one's personal hygiene and confidence.
10. Sharing Nail Clippers Nail clippers can harbor bacteria and fungus that can easily transfer from one person to another, leading to infections and other nail diseases. This behavior is especially risky for people with weakened immune systems or diabetes. It is essential to keep your nail clippers clean and avoid sharing them with others to maintain good personal hygiene and prevent the spread of infections.

Seit des Ausbruchs der neuartigen Lungenerkrankung COVID 19 hat sich unser Leben verändert. Eine stressige und herausfordernde Zeit, in der wir uns um das Wohl unserer Liebsten sorgen. Insbesondere schwangere Frauen und Eltern von Kleinkindern sind in großer Sorge um das Wohl ihres Schützlings. Wie Sie Ihr Baby vor dem Coronavirus bestmöglich schützen, erfahren Sie in unserem SARS CoV 2 Ratgeber.
  Wie Sie Ihr Baby vor COVID 19 schützen
Folgende Regeln und Empfehlungen der WHO dienen einer Reduktion der Ansteckungsgefahr mit COVID 19. Damit schützen Sie Ihr Baby und Ihre kleine Familie (Hinweis: Diese Liste ist nicht abschließend):
  Tipp 1: Regelmäßiges Händewaschen
Zum Schutz Ihres Babys vor Corona ist regelmäßiges Händewaschen das A und O. Sobald Sie nach Hause kommen, sollte das sorgfältige Händewaschen mit Seife und Wasser ein erstes To-Do sein. Auch die anschließende Händedesinfektion sollte mittlerweile zur Hygieneroutine gehören! Achten Sie darauf, dass sich auch Besuch, der sich mit Ihrem Baby beschäftigt, vorab die Hände wäscht und diese desinfiziert.
  Tipp 2: Vermeiden Sie Augen-, Mund- und Nasenkontakt
Vermeiden Sie jeglichen Kontakt mit den Schleimhäuten, da COVID 19 sich insbesondere über Tröpfchen überträgt. Vermeiden Sie daher jegliche Berührung Ihres eigenen Gesichts sowie das Ihres Babys.

Tipp 3: Vermeiden Sie unnötige Kontaktaufnahmen
Bleiben Sie so oft wie möglich Zuhause und vermeiden Sie unnötigen Besuch sowie andere Kontaktaufnahmen, die nicht zwingend erforderlich sind. Sollte doch einmal Besuch kommen, bitten Sie diesen um eine vorherige Desinfektion – und eineinhalbMeter Mindestabstand zu Ihrem Baby. Außerdem sollte der Besuch stets eine Mund-Nasen-Bedeckung tragen, um einer Übertragung der Lungenerkrankung beim Sprechen, Singen, Husten vorzubeugen.
  Tipp 4: Desinfektion von Alltagsgegenständen
Desinfizieren Sie Alltagsgegenstände, die regelmäßig zum Einsatz kommen, bestenfalls täglich. Hierzu zählen auch Türklinken, Oberflächen, Handy und Telefon sowie weitere Alltagsutensilien.
    Tipp 5: Desinfizieren von Baby Utensilien
Desinfizieren Sie außerdem täglich Gegenstände und Oberflächen, mit denen Ihr Liebling in Kontakt kommt. Dazu gehören sicherlich der Baby Hochstuhl, aber auch Schnuller, Fläschchen und Spielzeug. Fläschchen und Schnuller sollten täglich gewaschen, ausgekocht oder im Vaporisator sterilisiert werden.
