My spring break is coming up in a week and holy crap do I have plans on plans on plans, especially since my summer is gonna be full of school + internship + HOPEFULLY friggin' graduating with a BA in Psychology so that I can start applying to grad schools.

GOAL 1: MASTER GSHADE/ReSHADE

I know that some people are sticklers for this but my thing is that I had no gee-dee clue what I was doing with ReShade, whereas Gshade just kinda clicked and worked for me? That said I have a bunch of resources for learning ReShade so I might end up moving back to it at some point.

My main issue is figuring out the order of all the different effects. It obviously matters, I'm sure people smarter than me have tried to use presets only to be like "why tf does this look absolutely nothing like the baller screenshots this one cool Simblr has?" Annnd it turns out it's order + remembering to turn off certain graphic settings. Also photoshop, but that's gonna take a lot longer for me to figure out lol.

Like I'd been struggling to figure out why @gunthermunch's gorgeous Lithium preset wasn't looking as sexy as it did before annnnd it's because I forgot to turn Edge Smoothing off when switching to it. Jesus wept at how dippy I am sometimes.

Eventually, what I would like to do is maybe make my own preset at some point? I would be kind enough to show the effect order too if I did so. But this requires so, so much more shader knowledge than I currently have.

FUN FACT: My first ever degree was in art, I even went to a very fancy and private art school (School of the Art Institute of Chicago if you're curious)- I dropped out after one semester because uhhh that shit is expensive. Ended up finishing my degree at a much cheaper location in MN. That said, my art was 100% analog and 2D, and it turns out it did not translate super well into trying my hand at graphic art.

It's funny because I've been gifted really neat stuff for graphic art (like a really nice Wacom tablet and Adobe subscriptions), like people just expected my mixed-media ass would know what to do with it. NOPE! But yeah, Sims is sort of my excuse to try my hand at this stuff again, especially since I have a bit more energy now that my soul is not regularly being drained out of my body by customer service and tech support jobs.

GOAL 2: GET CRACKIN' ON ANOTHER DOOR

This one is hard because I am only on Gen 2 of the Orsons and it's sort of hard to justify starting up another story while that one is less than 1/5 of the way done.

THAT SAID, I don't plan on posting Another Door until I have a decent chunk of it done. Since it's not a casual gameplay story nor a legacy challenge, I plan on editing the bajeez out of the screenshots for it, really honing in on the aesthetic. I want it to look and feel very different from my random legacy challenge.

Fortunately, this story has been fucking up my sleep schedule for *months* now and I have a lot of the writing for it done. The hard part is translating that into the Sims, making sure I get the right poses and stuff, maybe even learning how to make some super easy CC (like, posters and stuff), and stuff related to GOAL 1 above.

What I'm saying is that it's going to take a bit. But I'm super serious about sharing it because it's my obsession and honestly the first time a story of my own design has possessed me in literal years.

Also, I want to make sure I have a significant backlog of the Orsons before I start seriously simming for it, because I don't want to screw over my favorite little pixel babies. This legacy challenge is going to be the one, I have done so much to keep my save files to keep it safe from harm (ask me how many backups I have of the save files. JK don't, the number is frankly silly).

GOAL 3: START YET ANOTHER MASSIVE CC PURGE

Y'all, my CC folder for this game is honestly an embarrassment. I go so hard on CC shopping because this community is stupid-talented and I like giving my pixel babies nice things and cool looks. When I'm bored and not quite in the mood for gameplay, I just like making neat-looking sims that I do absolutely nothing with because I love fucking around in CAS.

I have built my own PCs since I was 17 years old, and when I first built COMPUTERMACHINE (current rig) back in the autumn of 2018, it was with the goal that it would run Sims 4 flawlessly no matter what I did to it. It's got ridiculous amounts of RAM, I religiously update parts for it. And to be fair, even with the current 6,907,907,890 TB of CC I have atm it runs better than Sims 3 ever had with a measly 50 GB of CC.

But for me, it comes down to finding all the stuff I wanna use. Making myself get rid of the stuff I don't wanna use. Straight up yeeting the CC that I thought was going to look incredible that uh, didn't deliver.

I do CAS CC purges about once a year but have literally never done it for Build & Buy stuff, because OMG some of this shit I've had since 2014. Like when Sims 4 first came out. YIKES. My CAS CC obsession is notable but it's honestly nothing compared to my Build & Buy. Even before For Rent made building lots slow af, my PC was starting to take a solid minute to switch to different buy categories.

It would take a long af time so I want to make sure I have a bunch of content in the queue before I do it. It's gonna be a whole ass thing and be so, so boring to do. So I'm putting it off for when I have a ton of time to do it. Like, oh, my entire Spring Break?

GOAL 4: MAKE A FRIGGIN' RESOURCES LIST ALREADY

This would obviously need to wait until after GOAL 3 is completed, but I wanna make sure the awesome creators whose stuff I use get credit, and that people know where they can grab neat stuff. It would include not only CC but mods, Gshade/ReShade presets, and maybe even lots and sims I've downloaded from the gallery?

(Since I am super anti-paywall and very unapologetic and rude about it, I will also share where one could perhaps get some of these CCs without paying some dip a Trenta Starbucks Unicorn Frappucino amount of $$$)

It's ambitious as hell because *gestures vaguely at GOAL 3* but it would make things like doing WCIF asks and lookbooks so much easier.

Somewhat relatedly, I wanna make a navigation post, especially once Another Door starts getting posted. That story is gonna be a bit huge with multiple arcs that take place over the course of like, 14 years. Plus once the Orsons get to the 4th+ generation, it would be easier to track things down.

IN CONCLUSION...

I have been having so much fun sharing my silly little Sim adventures on Tumblr, so much more than I ever thought I would! You all have been so great to me, and all of this stuff is sort of a way for me to repay that. Ever since I stopped being able to be artistically creative ever since a really nasty depressive spell in 2017, Sims has been my #1 artistic outlet. And having people who are even somewhat entertained by my pixels is incredibly motivating.

Basically, if you read all of this, DAMN would you have been a rad livejournal follower of mine circa 2007. On the seriousness, however, thank you all so much for being rad and encouraging and sweet. I promise to do you all, if not proud, then at the very least not disappointed.

Time to hit the bong and take some pictures of Lou and Tatertot before taking my IRL doggos on a walk~

Yet another clip show that I kinda don't really mind because this is the twenty ninth episode, so it's not really that useless.

The cold open is actually a mix of two cold opens previously. Sportacus has no apples, so he jumps out and uses the sky chaser to grab one from a tree. A pretty smart way of re-using shots. Props to whoever edited this episode.

Milford walks into Stephanie's room to check on her. She is OBVIOUSLY under the blankets, but she yells 'boo' (it wasn't that loud) and startles Milford. She starts writing in her diary about all the songs in LazyTown. She asks for Milford's favourite song which is Teamwork. Then he comes up with the idea of asking everyone in LazyTown their favourite song.

The first person she asks is Ziggy. And what do you know, his favourite's 'Cooking by the book'. Stephanie wonders if the others have favourites. Ziggy goes to ask Stingy and Stephanie goes to ask Trixie. Robbie is eavesdropping, questioning why he hasn't been asked because he is the most musical. Stop lying to yourself. Anyways he tries to sing high-pitched and breaks glass.

Attempted dab in the above screenshot. Anyways, I like Pixel more, because HIS favourite song is No one's lazy. I love that song. Out of anger he hasn't been asked, Robbie pushes his eavesdropper back, but it swings back, and he dives for it. Repeated action, but never unfunny.

So, Trixie is building a card out of towers (it took her an entire DAY), but Ziggy ruins it by sneezing and it flies away (but it's still in it's tower form..). He asks Trixie what her favourite song is, and in a possible attempt to scare him, she says 'Spooky Song'. So he runs into Steph.

Stephanie is going to ask Sportacus and Ziggy is going to ask Stingy. Considering Ziggy is a.. y'know.. complete gosh-darn idiot, he whacks his lollipop against Stingy's car multiple times, and when Stingy says it's called the It's Mine song, he doesn't understand it until the last time he says it.

Stephanie's interaction is a bit easier with Sportacus - she sends him a letter telling him that they wanna see him, and he comes down. Sportacus gives her a lot of hints about his favourite song, which is ultimately Twenty Times Time.

When Stephanie says that she forgot to ask someone about their favourite song, Robbie ultimately thinks it is him, but it is actually Bessie. It seems like she is avoiding him on purpose. Anyways, Bessie is about to phone call someone when Stephanie asks her, and her favourite is Secret Agent.

It's also revealed that Bessie thinks Milford is handsome.. so that's a good one. Stephanie is walking home when Robbie bobs up the periscope and startles Stephanie. She wants to ask Robbie his favourite but it's 'too late' (which is ridiculous because he has been whining about it the whole episode).

So after she begs (for some reason when she says please she looks like a chipmunk with her teeth), Robbie reveals his favourite is 'You are a pirate'. After that, Stephanie goes back home and reveals the winning song.

Maybe I should explain a bit more - In 2005, Nick Jr. launched a game called 'You Pick The Hits' where you had to pick from 3 LazyTown songs - Step by Step, Good Stuff and Have You Ever. The song with the most votes would be presented on TV once, and that song was Have You Ever. So this is the third time the song's been featured in an episode.

Milford asks Stephanie how it went, and she says it went great, and that there is one song everyone in LazyTown likes - 'Bing Bang'. For some reason, Robbie is still angry, and the episode ends with him hurting himself trying to do the Power Jump, saying 'Everyone can do the jump!'

It turns out not everybody can do the jump.

3/10 - Really boring, and the parts where the kids gasp when they think of who to ask next are annoying. When I write these I skip the cold open (ONLY if it's reused) intro, credits, and songs. So this was fast to watch.

hiiii mel <3 i’m.. thinking of starting to write for nct.. mostly jaemin.. and i more or less have an idea for formatting but it’s been a really long time since i’ve had to do graphics for fic’s (like the banner and stuff!) and i was wondering if you had any tips for that? like where to find good pictures (solid backgrounds seem like the best choice for not clashing with the lettering, a problem i ran into unfortunately…) and also is there any particular place you get your fonts from? if you aren’t comfortable answering that (or any of this!) then that’s totally ok and feel free to just give general advice or ignore this completely :]

so you've already got a good idea with using solid backgrounds for fic headers to make it easier for the text to show up! i source pretty much all my images from the groups/idols' official social medias. i just caution you not to take screenshots of say, instagram uploads, because this will degrade the quality of the image. either download it from twitter or wherehaveyou, or from an updates account like neocatharsis or wayvment here on tumblr! another word of caution: DO NOT DOWNLOAD TEASER IMAGES/PHOTOSHOOT IMAGES FROM CONTENT CREATORS WHO MAKE EDITS TO THE IMAGES, SUCH AS CHANGING THE COLORS, UN-WHITEWASHING, ETC., WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION. THAT IS THEFT FROM OTHER FANS. updates accounts like neocatharsis and wayvment simply reupload the original images posted by the entertainment company/idol in the exact same form without making changes to them. editors make alterations to the image and that new image is their own creative work, separate from the original one posted. you need the editor's explicit permission in order to use their edited version as a fic header.

i do all of my editing on my phone for my fics (except for the thin section dividers that i use, which i make in pirated photoshop cs6 so i can get specific dimensions, 540x2 pixels, and make the gradients super quick in a way that i know how to do. there may be a super easy way to do this w an app on ur phone too, that's just how i know how to)

anyway, if i have a photo that i really like, that i just knowwwww matches with the image of the guy in the fic in my head or smth, that i just rlly want to use but has a busier background, sometimes i'll use the portrait editing settings on my phone to blur the background a little bit and that makes the text a lot more legible (i have a samsung but im 99% sure iphones can do this too)

i typically don't bump it past 1 or 2, or the edges of the blur start looking a bit harsh, and i find that i don't really need more than this for the text to pop against the background anyway!

as for putting the text on the photos, i've the used the app phonto for years! it's completely free, doesn't put any watermark on your photos, comes with a bunch of fonts pre-installed, isn't super ad-heavy (it has a rlly small banner ad all the time at the top, and only shows u a skippable 10s ad when u save a finished photo), and you can download fonts from the internet to install straight into the app!

my favorite free font website is dafont.com, i literally will spend hours just browsing on there looking at fonts to download lmao. anyway here's how i find fonts for stuff and download, install, and use them with dafont and phonto:

once you have phonto downloaded, open dafont.com

up at the top, it has a bunch of different categories of fonts. for this example, i chose fancy > groovy, and then on this first page, i liked this font called "lostar" (there's also a search bar up there, but it only searches font names, not kinds of fonts, so if you're looking for a groovy-feeling font and you searched "groovy," only fonts with the word "groovy" in the name would come up)

i then press download, and open in my browser (i use firefox btw, which is why it looks like this lol). make sure you're opening the .zip file with the phonto app (it opens directly into into phonto on my phone, you may have to choose to open the .zip file using the phonto app from several options, instead of your phone's file explorer or some other app on your phone)

in the phonto app, you have to click install, then install again (it gives you the option to rename it, but i just keep the original font name bc why would you rename it?).

that READ THIS.txt file is a message from the font maker, it's the personal use license for the font (most of the fonts on dafont.com are free for personal use ONLY, and these .txt files that are contained in the .zip files are notes from the font makers telling u what u can and can't use the fonts for. generally, as long as ur not a business, u should be good this is not legal advice, please read them. also there's usually little thank you notes from the font makers in here as well!)

then you've got to slap some text on an image. you can choose an image from your camera roll, use one of their plain images, or open a pre-saved work-in-progress. for this example i used one of their premade gradients to make it easy

type whatever it is you want, click font. the left tab is the pre-installed fonts, the middle tab is the fonts that you've downloaded from elsewhere. here's the lostar we just got!

I've been trying to figure out if I should comment here again - I've been debating whether or not it will make things worse, or if it's worth commenting instead of just reading all of these assumptions and false information and just letting people assume. I've had a contentious relationship with this blog and others in the past, and I really just want to enjoy what's left to DV in peace. I decided to write this post and maybe participate more actively in any conversation surrounding me in the hopes that I might be able to diffuse any tension and stop people from spreading false info. I have had a couple MB (moon bunny) trades from bunnies 1-10ish where folks had traded their halves in advance. These people actually offered it without me prompting, and I also made them aware that there's a waitlist. If there was any issue, I truly would have hoped that any of these users might have reached out to me before coming to this blog. I believe in updating the people who are invested in my trades, and I have 5ish update notes I sent out to everyone who had a trade with me over the course of waiting for the moon bunnies to arrive. Nobody has messaged me to complain about my trades or the ID numbers they've received. If anyone is unhappy with their side of the trade, please please reach out to me so that I may fix it. To the person slandering me on here without having actually spoken to me at all; it's really hurtful, and I really wish you would stop. I traded for a croc a couple weeks ago - this was a legitimate trade. The croc owner was not on my waitlist by mistake. There have been a couple custom owners who reached out to me because I had forgotten to put them on the list, and the croc owner is one of them that I had forgotten to add. I don't ask for payment up front, but if someone offers it, I don't say no. Again, if anyone is unhappy with a trade, please reach out to me - I'm sure we can work something out, whether I hatch another bun for you and swap them, etc. As to the comments about me trading my Luna's likeness away; I don't view it this way. I brought Luna to this site so that he can live on in some way, and to share an adorable pixel of him with the community. Luna was a very loving bunny, and he also loved attention - so I know he'd be happy to know that all of his little minions are being loved and fed (food was one of his favorite things). I'm in no way saying that memorial customs are good or bad, or whether they should be allowed - just that this is what I intended for the MBs, and I'm happy with it. I've come to peace with not having control over the bunnies after they leave my burrow. But before they do, I make sure they're super lucky so that Luna can bring a little luck to everyone he meets. So far, everyone I've traded with has been neutral or happy to have +3 luck MBs in these trades. Nobody has said anything to me otherwise - I've had two people ask me if they could hatch, and I've said no to both. I believe they were good-faith asks to genuinely help me with the list.

I don't let others hatch the MBs because I don't trust people to keep them all +3 luck. Considering some people on here have very strong opinions about my 3L MBs (weird stance, but sure) and getting to hatch their own. There's also significantly more important topics here than me (why is it October with no summer event??), and I beg you to find something else to entertain yourselves. I don't like being the topic of conversation - I am very shy and avoid attention whenever possible in real life. I think two and a half years is enough time to analyze my actions on a petsite, don't you think? And yes... my original Karen post was not great. That's why I promptly deleted it, but not before someone had screenshotted it on the 3 minutes it was up and posted it on the original blog. To provide context to that (keep in mind this was two and a half years ago) - my abusive manager kept calling me a karen whenever he felt he needed to undermine any legitimate concerns I had about things going on in the company. How to add correct drop shadows to objects - Part 1

Lack of shadows on objects are a bit of a personal pet peeve, and I often add them to objects that don't have them (or have faulty ones) for my own usage. They add just that little extra bit of realism. I thought it might be useful for others to have a little guide for them, because the object creation tutorials I've seen don't go into a lot of detail.

This is a pretty basic tutorial, but I'm going to assume you have basic knowledge of Photoshop, Gimp or Paint Shop Pro, have poked through the innards of an object .package before (so you know what a GMDC is), and rummaged around a bit in Milkshape so you know the basic controls. What you need is, of course, an object in need of a shadow. If you never messed with Sims meshes before, you will need to put the Unimesh plugins" in your Milkshape folder to be able to import and export GMDCs. So let's begin!

For this tutorial, I'm going to give this mirror from the long-dead site Habitat43 a wall shadow. (You can get it here - it's called B43_ornamental_wallmirror.package.) This is what it looks like:

It's pretty and all, but I think it lacks a bit of depth. The creator of this object deleted the shadow plane from the mesh, but all the resources (the references in the SHPE file, the texture, et cetera) are still there in the .package file. Fixing this is almost the same as fixing the shadow for your own new object, which is why I chose this as an example.

1. First of all, open the object in SimPE and extract the mesh (the GMDC file - in this case the object is a mirror and thus has two meshes. Skip the 'boundingbox' one). Also export the texture file - this object has two: The shadow itself, which is a small black and white image, and the texture for the mirror itself. You can ignore the shadow for now.

2. Import the mesh you just extracted into Milkshape. I have three windows in Milkshape: Two on the left and one main window. Go to Window > Viewports > 3 Windows (2 left, 1 right) to get this view as well. I've set the top-left projection to 'right' and the bottom-left projection to 'front'. The creator of this object didn't add a plane for the shadow, so we're going to add it ourselves. Go to Model > Plane and set the HDivs and VDivs to '1'.

Go to the bottom-left window and draw the plane around the mirror frame. Then, select 'Move' in the 'Model' tab and drag the plane in the top-left window to just behind the frame. You'll end up with this:

3. Now, I looked into the SHPE file in the package, and noticed that the correct file for this shadow should be 'southwallshadow'. Go to the 'Groups' tab and rename 'Plane01' to 'southwallshadow'. Open the Comment and paste this into it:

ModelName: southwallshadow Opacity: -1

It's important that the ModelName/Group name is the same as the name in the SHPE file, or else it won't show up.

4. Now to create the shadow image. Hide all groups except the one named 'frame'. Go to the bottom-left window and [i]deselect[/i] 'Show Axis' and 'Show Grid', and set the view to 'Flat Shaded'. It will look like this:

Make a screenshot of your screen using the Printscreen button/Fraps/Gadwin whichever and paste it into your image editing program (I use Photoshop). Don't close Milkshape just yet!

5. Crop the image to the frame shape. Now, what we want is make the background black and the shape white, as the white part is what will show up as the shadow. Set the image colours to 'Negative' (Adjustments > Negative), making the black frame part white. Then, go to Adjustments > Replace Color and select the grey background with the pipet. Put the 'Lightness' to -100:

Next, go to Blur and use Gaussian Blur on it. I used a strength of 4. The original size of the shadow image was 64x64, but I want to make it 128x128 because of the frame detail. Simply create a new image of 128 by 128 pixels, then copy the image you just made, and paste it in there as a new layer. Go to Transformation > Scale and resize it so it fits.

This would be a pitch black hole of a shadow, so fill the background with black and lower the opacity of the frame layer to 50% or 60%. I thought the shadow was still a bit sharp, so I used Gaussian Blur again (with a strength of 1.7 this time). Save this as a .png.

6. Back to Milkshape! Go the the Materials tab and add two new textures (just click 'New'). Select the frame texture you extracted earlier for the first, and the shadow for the second. Unhide the shadow layer you hid earlier. Select the 'frame' group and assign the frame texture, then do the same to the shadow texture and the shadow plane. It should look like this:

Nakamura: Mine is about my sister giving Yabana a jersey. My sister likes Yabana and she gives him advice through me. She gives advice like, "His hair is long, it is better for him to cut it. His hairstyle in summer 2 years ago is good." (LOL).

Yabana: Also, she said, "He always wears shabby sweatshirt," so I received a brand new jersey from her through Reia (LOL).  What I was trying to say earlier is the time where the 2 of us went to instrument store to see some bass.

Nakamura: We also did that! After buying the bass, I got it painted by Yabana's father. But, since we both talked about family members, I wonder if this is partially correct (LOL).

SASAKI TAIKO x KONNO TAIKI

CLEANING AFTER TAIKO CHALLENGE...

Konno: Our best memory, let's say our answers after the go signal! "Fireworks in Odaiba."

Sasaki: "Amusement park!" Ah~that one~ (LOL). The one where we watched fireworks!!

Konno: That was around 4-5 years ago already, right?

Sasaki: That was close to the end of summer.

Konno: Yabana, me, Sakuchan (Sakuma Ryuto) and you (Taiko) were there.

Sasaki: The fireworks were really beautiful. We could see it from the restaurant. Although it is a beautiful memory, it didn't come to my mind~!

Konno: Well, the amusement park is also a good memory. (Takahashi) Yuto and (Iwasaki) Taisho were there too. Everyone went to places like haunted house, it was really fun~(LOL).

Sasaki: There was a collaboration with 「Kurosaki-kun no Iinari ni Nante Naranai」right at that time. I wanted to ride Kurosaki-kun's gondola no matter what so I rode the ferris wheel around 3 times. That was fun~.

Sasaki: The content with cola became known but even I myself think that the content with shampoo is a masterpeiece. I planned that 2 weeks before the filming. I thought that I'll do that on my birthday. And then, Akarui Tonikaku-san did that in the variety show.

Konno: What a timing (LOL).

Sasaki: I was troubled, "Uwa, seriously! It overlaps with my plan!", but since I wanted to do it so I took the risk and did it.

Konno: Well, that is the best. I like the part where you poured the water to yourself, but what happened to your room?

Sasaki: It got wet. In Johnny's stages, when we use water, the water flows into the orchestra pit (a space that is lower than the main stage), but in my house there's no such system like that!

Konno: AHAHAHA!

Sasaki: That's why with a drainer similar to the one used in cleaning the windows, I cleaned the room by making the water flow into the veranda. Cleaning the mess afterwards was miserable (LOL).

RECENT HAPPENINGS

Sugeta Rinne: I can now do 70kg of bench press! I thought of doing a bench press that is about my weight, but I am happy that I was able to do 10 more kilos from my weight. Since I still do 3 reps x 3 sets, so I want to increase the number.

Motodaka Katsuki: There are also 4th year undergraduates in the graduate school seminar. It was my first time meeting them recently, and I feel excited that they're my juniors. Until now, there are seniors that I am close with, but I don't have a junior who is close with me. I wonder if they'll be close with me!?

Nakamura Reia: My dad gave me the latest game console for my birthday. The controller is amazing that the vibration changes when the character is walking in grassy place and when the character is walking in soil. I don't have that much games for it yet but I want to play with it a lot.

Yabana Rei: A little while ago, I went to watch Rinne's 「Hidamari no Ki」(the show ended) in Osaka. I wasn't able to go in Tokyo shows but it was really popular so I really had to see it. I also watched Sexy Zone's concert the next day, it was a fulfilling trip.

Konno Taiki: When I'm at home or when I'm on the move, I only listen to western music. In someway or another, it looks like I have a phase for Japanese music and western music, and now I am into western music. I keep repeating the songs that I like more than broadening the songs that I know. There are a lot of songs by male artists [that I listen to].

Sasaki Taiko: I have fully mastered the stores in the suburbs of Tokyo that sell in large quantities!  Depending on the store, the proportion varies and that excites me~. For example, 800 yen for 24 bottles 500 mL of water, there are great deals and it is super fun. I also bought toilet paper that I split with my friend.
