"yes and no," you want to smack yourself for your answer, "I um... he'd do it most of the time... when I was asleep. so it's not like I hardly noticed anything." a dry laugh erupts from your chest, "but when you're 16 and obviously grown... things escalate further. stares last longer, hands in the kitchen sink lower, and pats on your back end up fixing your bra strap..." you shake your head, smiling to fight off tears.

"I know," you whisper, allowing hot tears to stream across your cheeks, "but I'm done, I survived. I don't have to live through that again. and now... I'm lucky to live the life I want for myself." your thumbs reach to wipe down his tears from his beautiful eyes, "I've met the people I want in my life. people I care about, people who make me smile everyday." you grin.

"that's why I love spending time with you. you always find a way to make me smile."

gojo feels his head spin. his skin feels warm, and all he wants to do is close his eyes, but when you're in front of him wearing a smile, he wants to be the stronger one. wants to be the one you tell him things. so he grabs your hands.

I’ve seen a lot of people trying to figure out who their godly parents is/are purely based on the face value of how Percy sees them and what they’re known for. For example, people claiming they cannot possibly be a child of Athena because they’re not wise or not smart. That’s not how it works.

I have always said that I was a child of Athena, and I have the tests to back me up (even though I’m also very likely a child of Poseidon)

And I don’t say this because I’m trying to become Percy or because I related on such a deep level with Percy and Annabeth and their characters. But because Athena is the goddess of knowledge, I have never known a closer, more valuable friend than words on a page. Never been so at peace than I was in the quiet of the night, reading under the covers while I know distantly owls are just waking for the night. I know I’m a child of Athena because no other god values the history of our world, the literature of our world, and it’s importance. In Athena, and in Annabeth I saw grit, determination, and I saw how they valued words in a way that spoke to my soul. And I knew. Knew that I was looking into a mirror.

On the flip side. I can see my potential as a child of Poseidon. It’s not just my inner dream and goal to be a waterbender. But it’s the utter calm that washes over me when I’m at the beach, the water lapping at my feet. The breeze in my hair. The whisper of the waves telling me I’m home. It’s the freshness of stepping into a shower, and coming out of it feeling alive. The way my temper ebbs and eases with the tide, clouding over and storming when things don’t work out. The way it slows down, to barely a ripple when things do.

There may not be any children of Artemis. But there are hunters. They are immortal beings with grace unattainable by mere mortals. Children of Apollo are the wheels that keep camp turning. They are the ones you can always count on to have a good time. They make you laugh so hard that you cry, they’re the ones you call when you’re upset and just want to forget about reality for a night. But they’re more than that, they work close with the children of Demeter, tending to the strawberry fields, their powers responding to the touch of their fingertips. Like their father they are stubborn, their thoughts set in and hard to break like the vines that grapes grow on. They are the quiet listeners of camp, taking in all of the information before speaking, acting mediator when they decide.

Aphrodite

Children of Aphrodite are the ones you turn to when all hope is lost. Because when nothing is left, there will still always be love. Beauty is subjective, but the children of Aphrodite are the pioneers for body positivity, constantly advocating for self love all around camp telling people that they are beautiful and reminding them of their self worth. They are the children you roll your eyes at, not realising the power they have in words. The true mediators of camp, calming fights between the hot heads and the stubborn blood. With hair that always seems to change colour the next time you see them, children of Aphrodite remind you that they are in fact children of a goddess, and they’re not about to let you forget.

Children of Ares are warriors from the moment they are born, but they don’t have to be. In typical olympian fashion, they are stubborn, the most stubborn of the family. Calcination is a difficult stage that shocks and disillusions us, while it deflates the ego. We feel as if we were being thrown into an abyss of unknowing, being torn to shreds, and then being burned to ashes.

Suffice it to say, most people avoid this process.

Dennis Hauck describes this foundational stage as “beneficial because [it exposes] deeper layers of our essence while rubbing away the false person.” This is certainly what most of us might think we want, but when we’re face-to-face with the process, it is often a frightening thing.

As Calcination burns away the ego’s influence by deflating it, we are without the ego’s protection from the unknown. We may feel like all we hold dear is being threatened, we may be depressed or angry. It’s a death-like experience. Even though this is painful and distressing, we may realize that we’ve outgrown the need to be protected. Calcination eliminates what is no longer needed, including cherished beliefs which limit us.

The essential task in Calcination is to surrender to it, learn from it and allow it to burn away the barriers and obstacles to our wholeness.

Stage II: Dissolution

Just as Calcination represents fire, the second stage, Dissolution, engages the element of water to further the process of releasing unnecessary and outgrown habits and beliefs. Dissolution typically involves crying and feeling lost. After Calcination, the ego’s rigid control is released temporarily, and we may become aware of underlying fears of the unknown, of feeling too much, or of expressing ourselves. We fear that no matter what we do, we will be harmed, rejected, denied, criticized, or annihilated.

The task in Dissolution is to actively accept and express our emotions so that we may access the essential emotional core within us. In Alchemy, the ashes of Calcination are dissolved in water (emotion) to give us the opportunity to connect to our original feeling state before the ego’s protections began.

In this stage, we bring back the emotions, while detaching from the experiences that triggered them in the past. Emotion connected to trauma or painful events get translated as just as bad as the event itself. So we repress them in order to protect ourselves from re-experiencing the original event. But our emotions are necessary and essential to the Soul’s well-being. So they must be brought back if we are to grow and mature spiritually.

In research done on the between-lifetimes states of consciousness (I recommend books by Michael Newton, Ph.D. and Joel L. Whitton, Ph.D.), a majority of subjects reported feelings as essential in the learning experiences between lifetimes. The feelings a Soul has during the after-death “life review” guides that Soul into making changes that support evolvement. The Soul may see that the next lifetime must be dedicated to correcting and rebalancing any wrong that was done against others or itself.

Rejected and denied, emotions become heavy, dark and sometimes even dangerous. We numb ourselves by believing we don’t have unacceptable feelings. But many people are amazed at how much time, effort, and energy they put into hiding an emotion, only to discover that when re-integrated, it makes them feel whole. The fear of being annihilated by an emotion is the fear of feeling alive.

Stage III: Separation

Separation is the stage in which we learn to make wise decisions. This is a level of intellectual exploration, symbolized by the element of air. But it is not a hiding place by “going into our heads” when upsetting emotions arise. Rather, it is a place where we deepen our understanding and appreciation of our emotions and integrate them in the process of making decisions for our lives that are more closely aligned with the guidance of our emotions and therefore, with the Soul’s purpose.

Misusing the intellect by rejecting emotion disconnects us from the Soul because the Soul and emotions are interconnected. Our Souls express through our emotions. Great artists, writers, musicians and other highly creative people could not do what they do if their emotions are shut down. Unfortunately, our society diminishes the value of emotion so those who express themselves passionately are often outcasts. We can perceive this rejection, however, as a confirmation that we are creative, inspired or unique, and we just don’t fit the common mold.

By being in touch with our feelings and learning to make decisions that support our expression, we avoid blocking that expression. This takes courage. It is far easier to stay in a bad relationship or to keep working for the same abusive boss than it is to leave. Leaving means we’re on our own and we won’t be taken care of. Those beliefs depend upon an immature perception ourselves, built on the idea that we have a helpless little child within us, when the truth is that we are adults. So Separation helps us to update old ideas and make wise decisions that release stands in the way of our growth.

Part IV: Conjunction

Alchemy’s motto is “As Above, So Below,” meaning that things of the earth are influenced by the heavens - and vice-versa. Alchemists and shamans seek the balance between the two and from that balance, they effect transformations and healings. The symbol of the World Tree, found in many mystical traditions such as the Kabbalah, teaches that to be whole, we must be connected to heavenly things as well as maintaining our roots in the earth, so the “trunk,” or our life as we live it, becomes a highway flowing between the two.

The fourth stage of alchemical transformation, Conjunction, is related to the heart and to the earth, another symbol like the World Tree of the place where the spiritual meets the physical and the higher states of consciousness may be integrated.

Conjunction calls us to create a new attitude toward ourselves and others. If Separation set the stage for us to quit a meaningless job, for instance, we may be inspired to begin doing what we always wanted to do. In the conjunctive state of consciousness, there are fewer fears, so many of the old “shouldn’ts” are absent, or at least diminished.

We learn to perceive ourselves with more acceptance and love. We see our “mistakes” of the past as “grist for the mill” and necessary for the greater consciousness yet to come. Rather than a value judgment, our previous low self-regard might now be viewed as a self-regulating mechanism that prevented us from manifesting our potential until the time was right.

A conjuncted consciousness takes us closer to being that person we always sensed we could be. However, the work doesn’t stop there.

Stage V-a: Putrefaction

Once again, we must face the ego’s attempt at dominance, but in the fiery Putrefaction-Fermentation stage, the quality, intensity, and source of the experience is quite different from that in Calcination. There, we were alone in our battle with the ego. This time we sense another, higher force assisting us. And although Putrefaction can be very disturbing, and we may be thrown once again into a pit of depression or despair, we also feel supported, even encouraged, in the process. Most people in this stage report the ability to observe objectively even while feeling deep despair and fear.

Putrefaction proceeds until it has “cooked” us enough and we enter Fermentation, whose process is similar to how rotted grapes become fine wine. Putrefaction has leveled the ego so it supports and strengthens us now, rather than sabotaging us.

Stage V-b: Fermentation

In Fermentation, a new wisdom may arise, founded upon the breaking down of former beliefs. In alchemy, the brew must be transferred to another container (the newly developing self), where a catalyst is added to produce the final stages of fermentation (where a new identity and outlook is formed).

In this stage, we must maintain a state of egoless surrender so we can be empty and receptive vessels when the catalyst is added. The catalyst in personal transformation may take any form, but it always includes new insight and even an enlightened view of the self. We may suddenly become aware of why we act and feel as we do. Old ideas and habits may fall away, and we see how much of who we thought we were was based upon illusion.

Part VI: Distillation

“Your feelings and thoughts are the feelings and thoughts of the Whole Universe,” says Dennis William Hauck in The Emerald Tablet. In Distillation, we become far more interested in the greater good than merely in our own. It is the transformational stage where we are spiritually and emotionally mature enough to merge with the collective conscious and unconscious without being overwhelmed. The ego no longer controls us and we can therefore experience and appreciate the mysteries of collective and personal material without the its intrusion.

Distillation creates authentic spiritual experience that embraces the light as well as the dark. (By dark, I mean the mysterious, unconscious, unexpressed - I am not referring to what we call “evil,” which is actually a misuse of the dark.) Many spiritual and religious philosophies teach that our task is to reject and avoid discomfort and seek only an idealistic realm of experience. These ideas only further the belief that when we experience darker aspects of life that we must be doing something wrong.

A distilled person has a mature perception of things. S/he does not expect life to meet egoistic expectations, nor does s/he view it as a devastating disappointment just because it doesn’t meet those expectations. A distilled person works with the Soul, rather than the ego, to create her/his life. S/he surrenders to the higher forces while celebrating and honoring the existence of the lower ones.

A medieval alchemical drawing shows a well from which are emerging the masculine sun and the feminine moon. This depicts the process in distillation of arising from the depths of the lower work into a balanced relationship with both higher and lower aspects of being. Also in the picture is a pelican shown pecking at her breast until she draws blood that she then feeds to her young. This represents the wise choice we are asked to make if we are sincere in our intentions to become spiritually advanced. At some point we are required to make a sacrifice that benefits the greater good. This is not a melodramatic sacrifice for that is no sacrifice at all. It’s just more ego drama. The true sacrifice is one based upon the origin of the word: making an act sacred rather than self-serving.

Stage VII: Coagulation

In Alchemy, a whole person is one who has traveled through all the lower stages: calcination (burning out the ego’s control), dissolution (redeeming the emotions), separation (deciding what’s important) - many times! - and has then moved into numerous explorations of the stage of conjunction to discover the heart. A whole person welcomes Putrefaction-Fermentation, Distillation, and Coagulation, which is where wholeness is confirmed. But even though Coagulation is the final stage, the end is just the beginning. This is no resting place, for it requires more responsiveness than ever before, more discomfort than when we were at varying degrees of unconsciousness, and more vision of how our moment to moment decisions can affect entire universes. It is also filled with ineffable experience that we may never have imagined possible.

Few people reach a point of complete Coagulation. Most of us must continue to go through all of the stages again and again, each time further refining the golden essence within us. Just as it takes miners effort, toil, and time to uncover riches within the earth, our struggles to find our inner Gold are ultimately worth it all.

Hi anon, apologies for the delay in my response. I know this took over three months for me to answer… It’s just that there is so much to say about the subject. It’s a very broad spectrum that we are dealing with. In regards to past lives, how far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

There are many different cultures/belief systems/philosophies and religions that have unique interpretations of reincarnation and how/why it manifests. Buddhism sees it differently from Hinduism for example. If you are curious about those specifically here are some links to explore:

In short: Tibetan Buddhism holds that there are two ways that someone can take rebirth after death. The first is to be reborn involuntarily, under the sway of ‘karma’, drawn back to life by destructive emotions and desires. This is the fate of most of us. A few, select others, through the power of compassion and prayer to benefit others, are believed to be able to choose their place and time of birth as well as their parents.

In short: Hindus believe the self or soul (atman) repeatedly takes on a physical body, until moksha. There is no permanent heaven or hell in Hinduism. In the afterlife, based on one’s karma, the soul is reborn as another being in heaven, hell, or a living being on earth (human, animal).

As aforementioned in previous posts throughout the years, I went through a period of devout atheism during my teen years and early twenties. A series of unexplainable events led me to the beliefs I have today. Apart from being a very spiritual child, without anyone impressing it upon me, I had a series of supernatural experiences that shook me to the core.

My mother says when I was two years old, I used to say things to her like: “remember last time? When I was the mom and you were the kid? I liked that better.”

The creepiest instance in my case, I have mentioned on this blog before. I had this reoccurring nightmare since I was three years old, that I was a grown woman–not a child–and I was on fire. I ran to the window to call for help, and I tangled in these dark velvet curtains and burned to death. I was too young to fully comprehend the dream, and I never told anyone about it.

My whole life I was unnaturally petrified of Fire. Most children learn through experience that fire is “hot”, I was always terrified of it. I KNEW it hurt. I would scream and cry around candles, incense, matches lighters etc. spitting on the wick after blowing out the tiny flames, throwing flammable items in the sink, or out into the street.

My grandmother, being fed up with all of this, finally confronted me at age eleven. In an irritable tone she asked: “do you know why you are afraid of fire?” Stunned, o shook my head slowly before she continued: “during the civil war, you were waiting for your husband to come home, your oil lamp knocked over and caught your skirt on fire. You ran to the window to call for help, and you tangled in the curtains and you burned to death.”

How could she know that?

In that rich color and detail? When I had never told a soul about that dream.

In middle school, I had nightmares about being burned at the stake as a witch. People chanting “witch! Witch!” Over and over… Throwing more wood on the pyre, as I choked on the smoke through screams of agony.

This feeling of persecution followed me all my life. Never fitting in anywhere. Always being “different” from everyone else. I always felt that when I walked into a social situation that everyone hated me by default. That I had to prove my worth to them. I also had a lifetime as a leper. Being shunned and diseased. Deformed and decaying as I lived and breathed. I am convinced this is where my self karma around victimization stems from in my previous lives. I incarnated into this life with the intention of working through/healing this within my being.

Certain people… I met and immediately KNEW them. Almost as though I had been waiting for themto show up. As though we had known each other for forever. Time stops when you meet those in your soul collective. The ones you choose to incarnate with again and again to resolve karmic lessons and aid in one another’s expansion.

There is a book I read about ten years ago, that was given to me by my grandmother called: “the Michael teaching”. This book can only be purchased online, and was written by a rather unusual couple. They married and both transitioned genders throughout the course of their marriage. They both channel, and this book is a dictation from the entity known as “Michael”.

This entity is a collection of over a thousand souls who have all cycled off the physical plane to the next realm of consciousness. The physical is the lowest level, but the most tangible. Our lessons here in the physical reality (wether you believe in other planets, parallel universes or what have you) is to learn separateness. We come from the Tao (love/source consciousness/universe) to learn to individuate, and experience the tiny fractal of unique experience which is our soul.

Once you have learned all you can about separateness, you go on to the next cycle of experience. If I remember correctly the astral plane is next (the place that you go when you dream). Abstract concepts can be explored here, as well as merging with other souls. Generally a group of souls from the same “collective” come together to learn a series of lessons, before going on the the next cycle of experience.

There are 5-7 cycles in total I believe, and the last is becoming one with the universe again. So the whole thing was a cycle of experience in itself. This teaching always stuck out to me, it resonated because they presented the information unbiased. They distinctly said: “blind faith will not help you grow. We are merely presenting information from the perspective of the astral plane as we currently experience it. Take what works for you, and leave what doesn’t.” Which I really liked.

At the time I was very atheistic, and that book exposed me to unique concepts about energy, different “roles” we take on here in the physical plane, and the deep layers of the process of reincarnation. There is so much information on the subject, I could not possibly include it all in this post. A general overview of soul age as I understand it is:

Infant soul: these souls incarnate with the soul purpose of survival. In smaller scale food foraging societies, or third world countries where it is man vs. nature. Also the souls of animals and lower life forms are explored at this soul age.

Baby soul: a baby soul is primarily concerned with following the rules. They are just getting the bearings of independent consciousness and want for very little. These are simple souls, who are easily herded to a cause, or manipulated by stronger personalities. Their life lesson is to think for themselves, and begin to foster a greeter sense of personal identity.

Young souls: we live in a primarily young soul society. America is a prime example. Bigger, better, faster, stronger. What you have is what you are. Their primary concern is power. People obsessed with fame, validation, vanity, or any superficial pursuit is adhering to young soul mentality. Their lesson is to exert power and distinction over others. To solidify their identity. It is in this period that they begin to create karma with other souls. Wounding and impacting them with selfishness. People who start war are always young souls. They are not in touch with their inner world or their emotions, and have little understanding of empathy. If they do, it is only as an extension of their own egoic state.

Mature souls: at this soul age you experience your heaviest karmas. Mature souls are all about the “drama” or heightened reality. They live in states of turmoil and extremity. This is the soul age where you will experience a terminal illness like AIDS or cancer. All the heavy repercussions and self reflection that come with this experience. This is the soul age where you will experience a lot of death, trauma etc. where you will become a drug addict, a criminal, a victim. It all serves your expansion, to learn both sides of the coin. The winner and the loser. The victim and the perpetrator.

Old soul: an old soul has already learned all the basics of consciousness, how to solidify its identity, and all heightened possibilities of experience, now it is tying off loose ends. The old soul feels out of place. They have great wisdom from seemingly nowhere, and are often highly intuitive and empathic beings. They resolve all their karmic debts to souls from past lives. They work through the heavy traumas and let them go through expansion. The more they learn, the less identified they become with the physical realm. When their lessons are complete, they return to the universal consciousness. Often old souls feel they do not belong here.

Within each soul age are more levels. Seven actually, but you will have to read the book if you intend to go deeper with this understanding. So a person can be a level two mature soul, but still have young soul tendencies (ex. Have a lot of heavy trauma in their life which gives them depth, but a visceral need to become internet famous to validate their self worth. Or an early level old soul, can still carry a lot of the “drama” fromThe transition)

My understanding is that the universe is a living organism, that the objective of the universe is to expand and discover layers within layers of experience. To learn every possible facet (seen and unseen) until it implodes on itself and starts a new system. That it is continuously in a state of being and becoming.

A soul has very much the same experience, and when it is done with the physical reality it moves on to another set of lessons. Just as there are other realms/dimensions, your soul would pass on to explore these deeper and deeper before returning to the universe itself. Becoming one.

Past life retrieval can be done through guided meditation or hypnosis, though I highly recommend doing your research on spiritualists/psychics/Mystics in your area who specialize in soul retrieval to be sure you are not being overcharged or conned.

It is possible to retrieve past lives on your own. Generally children are more connected to the organic experience of remembering these lifetimes without any effort as they are the closest to source energy. If you have an irrational fear–generally that comes from past life trauma. If you are innately drawn to a place, or a particular time period, that is most likely an association from a past life as well. Anything you experienced in your past lives that was good, will be reflected in your preferences in this lifetime. Everything negative from past lives, will come up in this one to be resolved. Though some lessons take multiple lifetimes to learn or complete.

Sometimes relationships abruptly end for no reason, and are continued in the next lifetime. The average lifetime of one human being doesn’t even scratch the surface of omnipresent time. Time doesn’t exist in linear form in this universe. It is a man made construct to measure our existence in relationship to our limited concept of the universe. In reality, there is so much we don’t know.

I have this intuition in me that tells me parallel realities do exist. Of course I could be wrong, and I am always open to being challenged, I just tend to trust my gut as it is usually never wrong. This is a complicated concept to be explored, but one that would help support the theory of reincarnation were it true. That one could live several potentialities of existence simultaneously in parallel dimensions. Does that mean they are all aspects of the same state? That the same soul is existing in multiple realities at once to experience the prism of existence more fully?

The evidence to this would be dreaming. Scientists are at a loss when it comes to understanding dreams. Why we have them, where they come from, what they really are and what they mean. One of life’s many great mysteries. In my personal experience, my dreams have foretold the future as well as reflecting aspects of whatever is going on at the time. Most people in the spiritual field and in agreement that your spirit leaves your body to travel to the astral realm when you dream.

According to the Michael teaching, that is the next level of consciousness, just above the physical.
