I am now thinking about Essek as, essentially, Anna Ripley for the Ruby Vanguard, and it's genuinely horrific to imagine but it's not a real timeline so it's hilarious. It is so funny in concept. He's a glorified postdoc with no mandatory ethics trainings, no future, and nothing to lose. Also he just got handed the power of a thousand suns with absolutely no oversight and a mandate to "do your worst".

what I was talking abt earlier. we have fully looped back around and away from feminism, societally, whereas before it was very Feminism 101 to acknowledge that many parts of existing as a woman in a misogynistic society are painful and upsetting. not that being a woman is Inherently Negative in a bubble. but that living on this earth, in the conditions we're living in, is hostile to women. and that gender is a performance. that many of the Staples Of Femininity as accepted by society are things that you have to create and perform and mold artificially and aren't inherent, that COMPLAINING about day to day difficulties of existing as a woman is something that you're allowed to do. acknowledging these basic, again, feminism 101 things, that something tied to womanhood is more time consuming or more expensive or more dangerous Because Of The Problems. does not CREATE the problems. that when women complain about having to perform femininity, they are not, in fact, oppressing themselves. the call does not come from inside the fucking house. saying that you HAVE suffered does not fucking equate that you believe you SHOULD have suffered.

I am pretty fucking sure they are very much aware of pain, and are MORE than aware of the swirling torrent of misogyny and standards of femininity than anybody else. actually. and I am pretty sure someone complaining on tumblr that being a woman means always putting on a performance is going to make someone change their mind about transitioning. also "performing femininity" as a necessity to being treated well as a woman is not fucking NEWS to your Local Trans Woman. As Emrys, Merlin is a very powerful sorcerer.

However, his utter lack of any formal training means Merlin is not a very good sorcerer.

Eddie’s fingers skim down Buck’s sides until he reaches the hem of his shirt. Eddie lifts them both enough to tug the fabric up, exposing his tattoos and pecs, pulling it over his head. They’ve seen each other naked, or close to it, plenty of times in the showers at work, but that clearly wasn’t enough to fully prepare Eddie for being able to really see and appreciate.

“Jesus, Buck. You’re-” Exquisite? Resplendent? Carved and molded by the gods themselves? There doesn’t seem to be a single descriptor, in any language, comprehensive enough for the view in front of him. And Eddie took two years of Latin.

Buck swallows audibly and his tongue darts out to wet his lips. Eddie tracks the movement, wanting to claim that mouth again. To lick and explore, to learn every curve. But he’s stopped by the open, vulnerable expression painting Buck’s features.

“Tell me,” Buck prompts, hushed and questioning and sounding so uncertain of what Eddie might say.

“Beautiful. Perfect. Exceptional.” The words tumble out, despite how inadequate they are, because he needs Buck to know. He needs him to be unwaveringly assured that what Eddie sees is wanted and captivating, unlike anything else.
