#The Undead Truth of Us #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #i enjoyed this quite a bit! the writing and magical realism was nice #spoilers------------------------------------------------------------#-------------------------------------#the explanation is kinda........hanahaki basically. but like looking like a zombie. and all the examples are of romantic love #aside from her grief for her mother but even then the final catalyst is romantic love #and i just think there could have been a variety of examples there or at least some interrogation of why romantic heartbreak is so #all-consuming that it literally kills people?#i know my opinion on this is biased but idk there was opportunity for more nuance #i did overall enjoy it tho

Ok I know I'm heavily biased here but like I kinda love that Astarion's romance is one of the few in this type of video game where you basically end up canonically unmarried and childfree in his "good" ending? Just travelling the world??

I’ve been really thinking of reopening my art shop soon… I’ve been taking some practice doodles (hence all the posting lately) while I shake off my rust and I’m finding things I enjoy working on again. I miss trying my hand at more dragons/OCs and colors. my shop’s so broken rn lmao but that’s a problem for a later date it’s just nice getting back into art

#my mental health is starting to improve a bit #took a couple years but I found some meds that finally work better for me #ofc things aren’t 100% but I was really in a pit for a while #like ‘did not leave my house in months and slept 14 hours a day’ kind of pit #so. any improvement is better lol. but nah I’ve been making real improvement and im doing better. a lil shaky sometimes but that’s expected #diagnosed with chronic fatigue too. which is unfortunate but not unexpected. i am indeed god’s sleepiest soldier #i feel like a raisin slowly rehydrating but considering i was in a desert before any hydration is welcome #just learning how to enjoy things again overall #one thing I just couldn’t get myself to do (and enjoy) was art. doodles here and there but nothing to post #and it’s kind of funny because I feel like that downtime actually gave me a chance to think about what I wanted to work on #even when I wasn’t actively practicing #just paying attention to things I guess. enjoying art styles #i genuinely think my experimenting with stained is helping me learn colors #i spend hours in the scryshop im glad it’s paying off lmao #i want to tackle bigger things but i just gotta ease myself into the hang of things again #for now im having fun and that’s coooool. thank you all for your nice comments #i read all tags while kicking my feet and giggling. thank u all #that’s the update on Me tho. more to come hopefully #starting next month/julyish I will have a significant amount of time to dedicate to drawing which i intend on doing #so who knooowwwsss #rambles #funny enough coloring has become my favorite part of the process now. it used to be lineart. now lineart annoys me LOL #i also feel like i kinda lost my ability to write which has been frustrating but im focusing on art first #anyways that’s a whole different tangent rant over

I've given it some thought at watched the rest of Franklin and honestly I don't like that they included the erotic drawing of d'Eon. It's not historically accurate and didn't really add anything to the plot. It ends up feeling sensationalistic.

feel like the reason i can’t get into m/f shojo is because they’re very… Man and Woman.. like the gender norms/boxes are always so strong idk why😭 i’m always so detached from all the characters and story

#idk it always feels v traditional in terms of gender stereotypes idkkkKKK #probably why i enjoyed ouran sm because it didn’t feel like it was boxing the characters into being a boy or girl (even tho there’s still #some backwards ideology the overall vibe of the anime was much more free?)#i’ve always liked romances like my love story and ouran sm more #i also like kimi ni todoke (it did fall into the heteronormative boxes a bit tho in terms of just vibes idk ) but i loved that sawako felt #like a person who existed for herself even outside of the romance #i rly liked that she was v much the main character and her love interest couldn’t snatch that away from her #but ye yuri will always just be better to me the female characters are always sm better written😭#and all the typical ~couple~ roles don’t feel as cringy somehow #like i will eat tall/smol or academic rivals or popular/loser tropes if it’s girlxgirl but girlxboy… maybe sometimes… lol

he becomes fascinated with ‘bright doors’ around the city that never open and have no other side, and joins a group studying them to find out more

and a support group for those with divine heritage that becomes increasingly revolutionary, until the task he was made for reemerges and his life upends

I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it but?? I really liked it mostly???#It starts pretty small scale focused on the MC & slowly unravels the wider worldbuilding and narrative elements in a really interesting way #The first chapter or two I assumed it was typical high fantasy but then it’s like. oh this is a modern city. with emails and stuff.#The pacing is a bit weird - it’s quite meandering and also pivots significantly in the second half. tbh I’m still ????? about the ending lm #but also I am happy to float through on vibes.#and there’s some elements (like the doors that become….not that relevant) that I want to know more about. (as an aside - I saw someone say #that it’s a very clear retelling about Buddha’s son? which idk enough about but probably could give a deeper context to a lot of it)#writing style is kinda detached from the MC but also there is a reason for this that makes sense with the twist near the end!#which is a kind of twist i LOVE. Maybe I wish it had been emphasised a bit more over the story though? unsure.#I thought his mother's story was interesting also - you think she's an terrible parent just there for background context at the start but #then when she tells her story it's like ohh there's more context here.#also I hesitate to just say ‘if you like the spear cuts-- you should read this’ because I think the elements that are similar are done in a #kinda different way and might disappoint you if you’re expecting it to be the same as spear….but regardless the sort of dreamy writing #rich world; narrative with fantasy but also modern day elements; some of the writing style; mlm MC (tho not a romance)#idk. it will definitely not work for everyone but I enjoyed it overall #also it is full of queerness #bisexual books

One of my least favorite things about LOK is the fact that they completely removed Katara's personality. Like it's been a fucklong time, of course she wouldn't be the same person as when she was 14, but they still simplified her to just Old Lady. Where's her spark?? Her attitude??? She's a sweet and caring person, but she can also be petty and quick to anger. But I swear every time she's on screen in LOK it's just *old lady smiles* or *old lady looks worried* like What? Where's Katara??? Bc that's certainly not her.

#speculation nation #fanny watches lok #i think the only sign of her was in the first episode when she encouraged korra to leave. but thats it.#granted im only near the start of the 2nd season so who knows! maybe theres something later on!#doubtful tho.#and how they had aang play favorites with tenzin... like there wouldve been some focus due to training him #but taking him on trips entirely without his other kids??? what?????#when sequel shows butcher the characterizations of the old characters as adults........#also toph?!?! starting a police force??!?! miss Did Criminal Scams For Fun?!?! cheering at Breaking The Rules?!??!?!#i know ive seen ppl make that point before but god. what #havent seen enough of zuko to comment on him yet. but why did they make his grandson(?) have the same voice actor as him #every time that general guy talks i think it's zuko and it's disorienting. yes theyre related but What???#it's not even the voice actor doing a different performance it just sounds like zuko.#im. im enjoying the show! overall! but. boy there sure are some things that annoy me.
