some people are taking the fact that choosing "love for pokemon" as a topic in volo trainer's lodge interactions gets you the lowest points is a sign that volo actually hates his pokemon and is tricking them. but i think thats not the whole truth

first off, the whole thing with n. already talked abt it, n doesn't lie, n believes pokemon don't lie, i think you can trust the pokemon whisperer on this one

second, Rei is a topic that gets you the most points but volo hates that guy. points dont necessarily correlate to what the character likes, its what they find interesting. volo puts a lot of focus on gathering info and of course he's going to want to know more about one of his biggest enemies. this info is useful to him. he doesn't need to talk about loving pokemon, that's not relevant to his plans.

third, one of volo's friendship evos is Lucario. lucario can sense auras. it can definitely tell what volo's true intentions are, it Can't fall for fake affection. remember that volo is an untrusting person who thinks everyone should be used before they can use him, of course he can't say outright that he grew attached to what are meant to be his tools. he's in denial. think silver and cyrus with their friendship evos.

volo being reluctant to talk about love for pokemon when he clearly does makes him way more interesting. if volo didn't love his togepi truly, then he wouldn't need to have a photo of the both of them in jubilife village's photography studio, nor would he need to carry the little thing in the crook of his arm like a baby. he could just keep her in her poke ball. but he coddles her instead. pokemon are loyal, he probably doesn't need to go to those lengths to ensure she follows him but he does anyway.

more books!!! two more editions of the sea makes bones of bodies, this time bound in the three-piece bradel style--but still using a square back. bit of a bastardization, actually. these were definitely a learning curve and i have some notes for the next time i attempt this style, but overall im extremely pleased with the results. also!! these were my first attempts at HTV machine foiling rather than hand foiling, which (after a bit of trial and error) was a rousing success. EXCITING!!

glamor shots and details below, of course.

the first copy is for my wonderful friend and beta reader @cryptenby, whose support throughout the whole writing process really made this entire fic possible. it features a layered purple and black + silver cover with silver HTV titling. the back has a silver HTV katana design and the summary text "only one is a monster but they're both a little monstrous", which is one of the tags from the fic. the endsheets are silver mullberry paper and the bookmark is black trim with a silver-wound shark tooth (real!) and black/graphite beads. it also has hand-sanded, black speckled edges!! i made the endbands for this edition out of the same purple i used for the cover and wrapped it around a piece of thick chord.

the second copy is for @amusingghost as thanks for their incredible fanart of so many different scenes in the book!!!! it features a blue and back water braid lokta cover, dragonskin marble endsheets, and gold HTV foiling. the back cover has a gold HTV wave design with the summary text "only one is a monster but they're both a little monstrous", and the bookmark is black trim with a 24k gold clasp and gold-painted katana charm! it also has blue and white endbands and hand-sanded, blue and black speckled edges :3

i also edited the typeset to include ghost's fanart in both copies!!!! it will be bound in all subsequent copies of the book >:3c

and heres a closeup of the edges because im super pleased with how they turned out.

both copies have their wonky bits (i had some issues casing in on both) but!!! such is the nature of learning a new craft. overall, progress is progressing!!!

"have we not had a good time together" shes pointing yaz to the rule that yaz very well knows is there: we can travel if you dont ask me any difficult questions. yaz knows this is the rule - "because you ask too many questions", "this team structure isnt flat" - but she also was the one to invite the doctor into her home so im pretty sure she also knows shes not gonna kicked out that easily. she has some leeway. which she has been using between revolution and flux, which is why the doctor reminds her of the rules

i dont think she'd kick her out though. she wouldnt. i think it's just that the more you break the rule, the more unpleasant she becomes to be around, and eventually youre gonna walk out on your own. she doesnt want you to, she'd rather you stay and dont ask questions. but if youre gonna try to ask questions anyway, i think thats whats gonna happen

and yaz must think so too. because she does back off. because she doesnt want that to happen either. and it does anyway
