i was thinking about verlaine again today and had an insanely long thought about the misunderstanding of verlaine's character and people's need to vilify him under human morality for his actions when news flash he's not human and has never considered himself to be.

he was born to be pan's personal attack dog, a thing to be commanded by trigger phrases to protect, to hurt, to kill. in the time after rimbaud saved him and gifted him his name (we'll look into that) he spiralled with the idea that he isn't human and was just a weapon waiting to be brandished. rimbaud fashioned him his hat as a way to avoid such a fate and yet still with these gifts, his name and his hat, verlaine comes to one shattering conclusion: the person he trusts will never view him as human

verlaine shot rimbaud because he didn't consider chuuya human. it solidified to verlaine that no matter what name he had, or if he wore the hat rimbaud made for him to avoid being controlled by others, he himself still was not viewed as human by him. the one total act of freewill that he decided on, which was saving chuuya and allowing him to be raised in a village away from his past so that he would never have to know it, was denied because chuuya, and then by extension verlaine himself, would never be viewed as human by the person he trusted the most

rimbaud remained his one fine string attaching him to the humanity he had built for himself and it all came crumbling away when he had to 'betray him', even though in his eyes rimbaud had deceived and betrayed him first. you think back to his removal of the flags from chuuya's life and he thinks he's sparing him this same fate, detaching him from his feeble grip on the people who will never view him as human, but he didn't know that they had never viewed chuuya as anything but

it's like that meme that goes i'm sorry my love language is acts of service and all i know how to do is kill people

the short answer : i don't want to.

the longer answer : i want him to be happy &. healing.

the long answer : exactly what larian said about the ending : it's objectification of astarion which is something i don't want to explore with people i don't trust. it's not even only if you think ascended astarion is sexy or not , he hasn't grown or healed in a way that allows him to see he isn't the sexy vampire seduction trope. he's supposed to be an inversion of that , so allowing him to ascend doesn't sit right with me regarding his trauma. the only time i'd be willing to explore it is with my friends because i know they aren't on the literal objectification side of things or anything else that might make me uncomfortable.

[The comic is not split into any discrete panels, but is intended to be read left to right, top to bottom. The top left corner of the first page notes that this is me trying to beat Hunter mode.

The comic begins with Hunter walking into a room with a shelter. They're holding a spear and a grapple worm, and have an explosive spear on their back. They're in one of the rooms in the leg, approximately two-thirds of the way down; the shelter is between two mounds with poles sticking out of them. Hunter is thinking: "Phew... that's good progress." On the platform above the shelter is a spitter spider.

Hunter then slides into the shelter, which is a small box. They're thinking: "I'll hibernate here and then go to Memory Crypts."

The next cycle, Hunter slowly wakes up, blearily opening their eyes. There are a few cysts growing on them, and their two spears are resting on their back and their tail respectively. The grapple worm is puttering about in the foreground, covering a dark object. Through their groggy eyes, they make out a dark, spiky thing.

They abruptly realize the thing is a spitter spider that somehow entered their shelter at the last moment, and they start screaming; the bottom left panel shows them with an extremely terrified and horrified expression, with their outline streaking upwards in alarm. They grab their normal spear and throw it, but it misses, embedding itself into the wall above the spitter spider with a loud thunk. They resume screaming, flattening their ears. Above these four panels, the screaming is explicitly transcribed as, in all caps: "aaaaaaaaaaaaaashitshitshit".

They then grab their explosive spear, throwing it; it flies true and embeds itself into the spitter spider. While doing this, they're still yelling (in all caps): "shitshitshit". They then back themself up against the wall as the explosive spear begins to hiss, thinking: "... I'm so dead".

The explosive spear explodes with a loud boom, throwing Hunter up into the ceiling. They then fall back down onto the ground, stunned but still alive, next to the smoking husk of the spitter spider. They get up, confused, wondering: "Wait..." They then glance off to their left, frowning as they wonder: "How am I alive." In smaller text below that is their follow up thought: "Also where's my grapple worm..." end image description]

so uh... hunter mode, huh.

i very nearly shrieked out loud when this happened. i'm pretty sure this experience rewired my brain tbh
