Don’t know if you’re into Taylor Swift but I have a feeling you just enjoy character songs in general. Was listening to Style by her and couldn’t stop thinking about Pynch.

Well, now you've got me started. When it comes to Taylor Swift and Pynch I have many many feelings so here's a relatively comprehensive list of TS songs that make my heart clench and think about them. Most of these are vibes, ofc, and many have to do with the fact that in my mind Adam is very very evermore to me and Ronan is very midnights to me and I could maybe be persuaded out of this, but actually I won't. Also, remember how TS had a feud with KP but got more famous and successful as Katy faded into irrelevance? Yeah, me too. In the same vein, the KG continues to maintain its high reputation while its counterpart (the NW) becomes even more irrelevant than it already was, if that's even possible.

The Golden Company = Gaga

Exclusively for the gays and no one else. There's really no doubt about it. But Gaga hurt the fanbase when she decided to pivot into acting, which is currently giving her more success than the music stuff. The GC has a great reputation but comes from a history of flop rebellions. So they've pivoted to a "Targaryen" pretender in hopes that they can win big this time around.

The Rainbowguard = Charli XCX

Robb's Vanguard also has the talent. They have the material. But sadly, 90% of us would struggle to identify anyone not named Dacey Mormont. I mean, did you even remember that this group existed?

Istg u never miss!! I always wondered why i liked midnights sm even when the critics i liked didn’t and it makes sm sense it has the same kinda experimental (at least by ts standards) production like reputation. I honestly genuinely liked the album a lot, i thing at the time every song was very decently well written, the production too felt unique but then it left a bad taste in my mouth when all TV especially the vault tracks ended up sounding like midnight rejects. That and add all the different unnecessary versions and variants now i just can’t stand it. If she didn’t do all that the album wouldn’t be so forgetful.

yes, i agree. i think midnights wasn't totally undeserving of aoty but did think that a good portion of the win was for her recognizability and cultural relevance during the eras tour launch. it's not a bad album, i do overall enjoy the production, but maybe the midnights concept created thematic disconnect? supposedly it spans her life in different midnight moments but without specific real life context her albums don't carry the same enduring interest imo.

at this point i'll just go track by track and give my comments lol:

lavender haze: she will always be famous, great beat and solid mv. good sound over all that does remind me of rep.

maroon: i'm back and forth on this, i think it's pretty but it did feel reductive and possibly shallow. she loves red as a concept but i'm not sure she deepened its meaning much here. i also think this was her gateway to little details in her tracks that don't add up that impressively. the prototype for 'you ate 7 bars of chocolate' lmao

anti-hero: undeniably catchy, the mv was not my thing, especially with the weird dramatic non-musical break in the middle. but i do love me some mike birbiglia (he played her son i think)

snow on the beach: my daughter!!! this song actually has a good sound and plays with some nice aesthetic phrases that land like a feather instead of an anvil (stars by the pocketful vs. anything on ttpd, basically). also the 'more lana' version eats

you're on your own, kid: my son!! the bridge is genuinely excellent. i think it brought back the youthful/wistful quality that was part of her best persona (og red era).

midnight rain: i like this one thematically. it does actually delve into self-sabotage qualities in her past relationships but the central metaphor is actually fairly mature. there is some word salad in the lyrics but the central theme works, and i love the production

question…?: mixed bag. the chorus is catchy and does conjure imagery that has staying power, but the rest of it was a little immature, and not in a nostalgic way. again, good production so i could just zone out and enjoy that chorus

vigilante shit: lol. dare i say it's underproduced? the effect of that is the words need to be immaculate, and they are just kind of goofy at times. however, it was one of my initial favorites simply for the monotonous melody. sound-sensitive girly win. it doesn't hurt at all to listen to in that sense

bejeweled: more of a meme than a song at this point, and expresses her grandiosity better than any other song in her discography imo. also a first hint that she goes 'cruising' when joe is not feeding her need for attention. references matty most likely ("when i'm with the band") and therefore retrospectively blech. a little too sing-songy sonically. a kidzbob radio hit lol

labyrinth: utterly forgettable. i think i even remember skipping it instantly when the album first came out.

karma: gross culturable misappropriation (when will westerners use karma correctly??) and annoying. again, a kidz bop type track. i've never even seen the mv because the healy controversy happened before the ice spice remedial remix and i was too disgusted by everything ts.

sweet nothing: i like this one actually. if it's about joe, he always makes the best muse! very good production, some nice vocalizations, and the phrase "to you i can admit i'm just too soft for all of it" which is a decent synthesis of the version of taylor that people would actually like, ie, not vindictive and vengeful

mastermind: thematically grandiose and at odds with her preferred victimhood narrative. good production. i wouldn't always skip it but did get annoying when i listened to the lyrics themselves.

i agree, without the variants and the controversies, i would probably retain a strongly positive reaction to the album, especially the production!

Yns Pov:

Yes it's snowing it's finally snowing i have to wake up all the others.

So we can all have a snow day.

We can have snowball fights, make snow angels and we have to make a snowman and after we do all that we can go in and watch a Christmas movie and drink hot chocolate and eat cookies.

I ran out of bed and started to wake up everyone else then I went and woke up my brother Patton he opened his bedroom door with a warm smile which was always the best thing about my brother his warm hugs and smiles.

Patton: Good morning my dear sister,  What makes you so happy this morning?

Yn: Patton, it's snowing outside so dress warm because we're going to have a snow day.

Patton: Yeeeey how fun, ok let's do this you go wake up Virgil and I'll just go quickly and change then I'll go get the others and we'll meet outside.

I laughed at him and ran towards Virgil's room and first I knocked on his bedroom door but I got no answer so I tried knocking again.

Yn: Virgil are you awake?

Huh no answer i opened his door and walked over to his bed and sat on his bed and looked at him and couldn't help but think how cute he is.

I could sit like this for how long, I know it sounds very unpleasant but I really can't help it he is so very cute.

I removed the bangs that were hiding his face and as I did so Virgil started to move a little, I put my hand on his shoulders and started trying to wake him up.

Yn: Virgil wake up.

Virgils Pov:

God I just want to sleep today I don't want to get up or I'd rather try to sleep but it seems someone else has some other plans for me.

It must be Patton or one of the other guys I opened my eyes to tell them to leave me alone but when I saw Yn I didn't say anything.

Virgil: Yn what are you doing?

Yn: It's snowing outside and we're going out for a snow day so get up and jump and put on something warm.

Virgil: Snow days and having fun aren't really my thing.

Yn: Please Virgil it will be a lot more fun if you join please for me.

Virgil: Okey okey, I'm with you on your snow day.

Yn: Yeeeey, I'll just run back to my room and change into warmer clothes and I'll see you out there.

She told me and hugged me then she ran to her room.

It's strange I usually don't like it when people touch me but when she touches me it feels like my whole body gets warm and I get happy what does this feeling mean?

Yn: Virgil come and help me build the snowman I've started with.

Virgil: Um I've never built a snowman before.

Yn: It's easy, I'll show you how.

Yn showed me how to do it and luckily she had already rolled all the balls to their correct sizes and I have to admit this was a lot of fun.

And now we were standing in front of the half finished snowman all that was missing was a nose.

I looked at her and saw that she was holding a carrot that we were going to use as the snowman's nose.

She turned her head towards me and held out the carrot and smiled at me as she told me.

Yn: Would you like to have the honor of giving our dear friend a nose.

Virgil: Um okey.

I took the carrot from her hand and walked over to the snowman and put the "nose" in place, so now it was completely ready.

I turned around and saw a very happy Yn.

She is so very cute, and before I could say anything I was tackled in a hug by Yn and I hugged her back and while we were standing there it started to snow even more.

She looked up at me and gave me a small light kiss on my nose.

Yn: I'm so glad you chose to come out with me.

Virgil: Me too.

Fire and Hemlock Readalong: Part 3 Chapter 1

We now begin Part 3 - Where Now?

Polly goes to live with her dad, packing the stolen photograph and the toy soldiers. That may be what saves her, allowing her to call on the heroes by means of sympathetic magic.

She finally starts reading The Golden Bough on the train, and we get a lot more clues in the chapter titles - "Sympathetic Magic," "The Sacred Marriage," "Kings Killed at the End of a Fixed Term" stand out in particular.

With Dad and Joanna we see another example of adults who are so locked in their way of being they have forgotten to use their imaginations. Everything in the flat is perfectly, unsettlingly neat and tidy. Later Dad takes Polly out to the Zoo, and curiously, she describes the bird house as "magical," even though birds aren't really a major motif in this story. But they are flying around loose and free, unlike Polly right now. "It's like when I dream inside my own brain!" she says. The freedom of imagination in a mind that is otherwise trapped, perhaps.

It soon becomes apparent that Dad has not told Joanna that Polly is staying for good, and when Joanna asks straight out how long Polly is staying, Polly panics and says that she is leaving tomorrow. Here, once again, the adults fail Polly, leaving her on the doorstep without making sure she has a ticket or gets on the train. With nothing else to do, Polly starts wandering around the city alone, in a very mythic way - this part is referenced in Diana's Heroic Ideal essay, comparing her to Snow White lost in the forest. And the scene where she stands looking over the river evokes TS Eliot's Four Quartets, which is another framing device in the story.

Jones:

Polly walked to the middle and stopped. The wind took her hair there and hurled it about. She leaned both arms on the chubby metal fence at the edge and looked down, dizzyingly far, to the sinewy brown water of the Bristol Avon racing between thick mud banks below. The wind hurled seagulls about in the air like wastepaper.

Eliot:

I think the river Is a strong brown god Trying to unweave, unwind, unravel And piece together the past and the future, Between midnight and dawn, when the past is all deception The future futureless, before the morning watch When time stops and time is never ending

So Polly stands in-between things, both literally on a bridge, and figuratively between the past and future, between her mother and father, another Nowhere place.

As she leaves the bridge she spots Morton Leroy, and understands that this is all his doing, though I'm not sure what part he played because we don't get real rules for how they work. Did he engineer the misunderstanding between Dad and Joanna? Or did he get into Polly's head, with that whole "bleached with pride" feeling where she insisted she could find her own way home? Perhaps he was using the connection through the opal pendant for that, too. We know they are able to get at other people, but I think they are only able to do that through Polly. The whole "panics and starts saying things to get out of the Situation" is such a normal response that you wouldn't assume it was magic at all without everything else going on, but that's the nature of the Leroys, isn't it? To use ordinary things to control people.

As Polly walks, we see more mentions of the wind, hurling trash about in a foreshadowing of what is to come.

Then, as Polly continues to move in-between places, thinking that the shift from office blocks to old houses is like stepping from Here to Nowhere, she manages to call on Nowhere again in the sight of a familiar car...

I was trying to work out how to put that last sentence, and after writing it I realized she is calling on her power here, and in fact is doing so throughout, in a way that leads us directly into the final challenge where Laurel says "Tom can use anything which is truly his [to escape]." Polly is able to use Nowhere to escape because it is truly hers in a way that Laurel and the Perry Leroys can't control. They can use it and twist it for their own ends sometimes, but they don't own it.

What TS album(s) do you think Sejanus and Lucy Gray are? I was thinking Lover for Sejanus because he really is kind and caring and wants the best for everyone, but he's also Speak Now because he absolutely will speak his mind and not back down on it, he doesn't care if you want him to shut up, he will call you out. For Lucy Gray, I was thinking maybe folklore or evermore? The storytelling, the wandering around the forest aesthetic, the mysteriousness, it all just reminds me of Lucy Gray. Also because I wish Lucy Gray had no body, no crimed Coriolanus, if only she had a boating license and knew how to cover up a scene. Challenge Results: Snow Shoveling!

There were two hundred and sixty one houses in Konoha and thirty two different business', all in desperate need of a good clearing after a night of heavy snowfall.

Two hundred and ninety three buildings and only two shinobi to do the job.

"Surely there's more people to help us out," Kakashi had complained when Tsunade-sama had finished explaining the task. "Just Gai and me to do all of this seems a little-"

daunting.

tiresome.

downright impossible.

There were a lot of words Kakashi could think of to describe his exact feelings about the situation.

"I do have other shinobi," Tsunade confirmed. "But I thought the two of you might have a little bit of fun with it on your own."

Fun.

For some reason that word didn't sit right with him in this situation. There was nothing fun about shoveling snow on the first day off he'd had in two months.

"I don't think-"

A hand came down hard against his shoulder, forcing him to take a step forward. "Come on now, Rival," Gai cheered, forever ready to meet a job head on no matter how impossible it may seem. "We can make a challenge of it."

"A challenge?" his eyes sparkled with excitement. It had been far too long since his last challenge with Gai, but it wouldn't do any good to let his friend see how his words had affected him. Gai would never let him hear the end of it if he knew he actually enjoyed their challenges. "Well, I don't know-"

"How about something to help you decide?" a light smile played at Tsunade's lips. "a prize of sorts."

Kakashi perked up at the mention of a prize. When it came to free things, there was nothing short of senseless murder that Kakashi wouldn't do.

"Two hundred and ninety three places," it only took him a second to divide the work load into two. To win he'd only have to shovel one hundred and forty seven walk ways. It would still involve a lot of work, but it was felt like a much more achievable goal with a prize on the line. "And what do we get in return? other than the pay that comes with doing the job."

Tsunade scrunched up her nose at the reminder. "You want your pay and a prize?" she huffed. "Never one to get as much as you can, are you brat?" settling back into her chair, she folded her hands together and thought. "how about dinner?"

"you're paying?"

"of course."

"well, in that case," turning towards the door, he flashed Gai a quick smile. "see you out there."

With that, he was gone. the wind under his feet and Gai's voice calling out to him as he headed straight for the closest building.

One hundred and forty six.

Kakashi had pulled out every trick he could think of to beat Gai and secure himself a free dinner for the night. From using fire style jutsu's to melt the snow, to abusing the power of Obito's eye to vanquish it into an unknown dimension.

All of that effort he'd put into winning, and none of it had paid off.

"I should have known you'd cheat," Gai laughed as he held Akino up over his head. "really, Rival. Have you no shame?"

Kakashi huffed. "Don't talk to me about cheating," he grumbled under his breath. "You sent your student's to try and distract me!"

"Well, yes," there was no hint of shame in his voice. "but only after you sent the hounds to distract me."

"and you used the fifth gate! how do you think Tsunade-sama is going to take that? Using one of the forbidden gates for...for a competition!"

"You used Kamui!"

"Only once!"

"Once is enough to land you flat on your ass."

"Lee was shoveling snow back into the walk way to try and help you win! I had no choice!"

"I'm sorry," an energy radiated behind them. An murderous energy that could easily trump Orochimaru's 'will to kill' in terms of effectiveness. "Did you say you used Kamui and the eight gates?"

For his own safety, Kakashi chose not to turn around. Unfortunately, Gai did not seem to have the same strong survival instincts, because he spun round to face his doom with a cautious smile and a quick explanation.

"Tsunade-sama! I didn't realize- well, it doesn't matter," he chuckled in the face of death. "We've completed our task."

"I see that," Kakashi could feel her eyes staring directly at his back, but he still refused to budge. If he was going to die today she would have to stab him in the back. "And you used dangerous moves that could potentially land you in hospital to do it?"

"Ah, well you see-"

"Gai..."

"Kakashi was cheating. He summoned the hounds," Akino whimpered when Gai held him out towards Tsunade-sama like some sort of offering. "I had to catch up."

"With a dangerous technique that has resulted in broken bones in the past?"

"Ah, well...yes?"

"Gai..."

"I was just trying to-"

"Gai, shut up!" Kakashi reached out and grabbed hold of his friend's arm, pulling him away just in time to avoid taking a punch to the face. "Run!"

"But Kakashi-"

"If you want to live, Run!" He insisted, releasing his grip on Gai's arm and making a break for freedom with Gai hot on his tail.

There was very little chance he'd successful escape Tsunade's wrath. Even if he managed to outrun her, she was known for holding a grudge for years. His punishment would catch up with him sooner or later.

his only goal at the moment was avoiding that punishment right now and hoping that Shizune was able to calm her auntie down a little before Kakashi and Gai were forced to face her again.

A bruised arm from one of her more restrained punches and an extra week of A rank mission's was a much better punishment than having his rib cage caved in by one of her strongest punches.

A Taylor Swift Disney Theory

Okay so you know how the countdown in NYC is on the billboard above the Disney Store, right?

Well the ads on the billboard are played on a loop, and Taylor's countdown and an ad for some J-Lo single are the only ads that don't appear to be related to Disney, which means that Disney most likely owns the billboard. Here all of the other ads played in the loop:

The top left just says "Welcome to the Disney Store", the top right is an ad for the new Disney Nature Penguin Movie, the middle left is one for Marvel's Avengers: Endgame, which is owned by Disney, the middle right for Frozen the Musical, which is produced by Disney, the bottom left is for a Mickey Mouse cartoon, and the bottom right is the, unrelated to Disney, J-Lo single ad. Since only 2 out of 7 ads in the loop are not known to be related to Disney, it's extremely likely that Disney owns this billboard. Now you're prob thinking "where is she going with this?" Trust me, I have a point. Since Disney owns the billboard, every ad not relating to Disney must be approved by people at Disney, and very few ads get selected. It's also important to note that while Taylor's ad is only located on that billboard within the city, J-Lo's is located at several other locations in Times Square, which is normal for anyone advertising in NYC. This means that Taylor specifically chose the Disney one, which doesn't really make sense because it's relatively small and low quality compared to the other Times Square billboards. Disney and other larger corporations also charge more to advertise on their buildings and billboards, and Taylor's ad is only shown on the billboard for about 10 seconds every 15 minutes, so it's not like she's getting a very good deal here.

This theory might be a bit of a stretch, but I think she's definitely doing something with Disney in the near future.

She's hinted at Disney a few other ways before this as well. For example, she dressed up as Ariel for her New Year's party, hinted at mermaids for the past year (ex: iridescent scales), and used yellow pink and blue in her new aesthetic (which symbolize Disney's most famous princesses, Belle, Aurora, and Cinderella).

Another part of this related to the similarly between the Out of the Woods/Zombie Taylor dress and the Time 100 interview dress. Here's a side-by-side comparison:

Although the dresses are not the same, the design is very similar. This reminded me of in the movie Sleeping Beauty, where Aurora's dress changes from blue to pink by the end of the movie:

The last part of my theory relates to her childhood. In recent Instagram posts, she mentions her childhood and her old house, and even captions one of the pictures with a lyric from "Never Grow Up" ("take pictures in your mind of your childhood room") which is a song about staying forever young and never losing your innocence, and for many people, they would describe Disney Princess movies to bring out your inner child, if you're an adult watching new ones, or makes you recall your childhood, of you're watching one of the classic old movies (Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc).

An important part of this is that it was posted on July 13th, 2018, and July 13th 2019 is a stamped date on the TS calendar, which many speculate to be the release date for the whole TS7 album.

This brings me to the song "The Best Day" from Fearless. In this song, she talks about her childhood, and mentions princesses twice. The first time in the first chorus she says "Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away..." And later in the third verse, she says "it's the age of princesses and pirate ships and the seven dwarves."

Taylor made a deal with Disney to get her ad on the billboard

Based on this song, Disney princesses definitely had a lot to do with Taylor's childhood.

Conclusion (finally):

Taylor specifically chose the Disney billboard over many other better billboards in Times Square

She's hinted at Disney things within the year (Ariel costume, mermaid scales, and blue yellow and pink aesthetic, which are the colors of the most well known Disney princess, Cinderella, Belle, and Aurora)

The Out of the Woods and Time 100 photoshoot dress comparison is very similar to that of Aurora's dress color changes in Sleeping Beauty
