so, instead of working on what i actually wanted to work on ... i did some rough mock up and UI stuff for the pixel game i dream of making

(some sprites are done and copied over, like the basic player character- most are super rough -throw some color in vageuly the shape you need -)

my dream idea (probably impossible espeiclaly for a noob gamedev like me lol) is like a mix of minecraft and stardew with a bit of botw and ww, but set in my OCs world- with a heavy focus on customization and environment/exploration more than making money or something (you might collect celestial silver bits- which are toxic to demons and thus better collected by you in an effort to heal their world and you get rewards for turning it in?)

the Hud? UI? you see here is well .. health and energy in the upper left corner plus some controls which are also in the upper right corner, the idea is to mimic windwakers style of button mapping- meaning that you can put any item on any button you want (only inventory is locked bc it contains all the options)- that extends to the jump, interact and sit actions too, theyd be in your inventory like an item you get from the start, so if you never wanna sit down, put sth else there, dont want to interact with anything and just run around? sure do, never jump? no problem

in the lower right corner is the info thingy, with the big wheel being time of day, the second the health of the environment (the main mechanic in restricting you- if you cut down trees or introduce plants from other, later unlockable, areas it will go down, if you reach critical level too many times Eadrya (blue rough sprite there) will show up whereever you are and kill you (bc the whole idea is that you are a demon hunter who wanted to leave the organization but was hunted down by them for it- so you are rescued by Shargon and put into one of the bubbles around travel gates meant to protect humans from the otherwise toxic-to-humans atmosphere in the demon world, but since you are a hunter, and they cant be sure you can be trusted, you are tasked with helping their world recover from the damage your former allies caused- so if you do more damage than heal it and you do it on purpose they will see it as proof you have not actually left the hunters, which means if Eadrya is the one watching the area you will be eaten/smashed/etc- if its someone else thrown back into the human realm)

below that is the temperature- and on the side is the current and coming weather

(edit: as sidenote, i always got a color filter layer ready for grayscale to check if everythings still readable without color- its an effort to make it more accessible for people with color vision impairment, but i dont think i can test for every single one? theres alot of levels of color blindness right? >o<)

probably one of my favorite aspects about The Quarry are how the “villains” are handled. even saying “villains” feels ill fitting, they all just feel like separate factions with different (but similar) goals.

THE COUNSELORS

“how are the counselors villains” you ask? ill tell you. theyre not villains in that theyre purposely antagonizing the Hacketts, but they are obstacles. the Hacketts have had a solid routine for about 6 years. go out to look for Silas in the desperate hope to cure their family members. and on the one night they decide to take a risk and let their werewolf relatives loose, hoping theyd lead the human Hacketts to Silas, these young clueless teens not only stay seated right in the line of fire, but proceed to have a very loud party in the middle of the damn woods.

they are obstacles in that now instead of aimlessly scouring through the woods, the werewolf Hacketts have just been handed a campfire-shaped-coupon to an all-you-can-eat-buffet. not only is this fucking up the entire plan, but now theres the danger of these counselors possibly getting infected and creating even more werewolves!

with this said, The Counselors arent only obstacles tho. theyre just unaware! Jacob had no idea about the werewolves when he sabotaged the car, nor did Dylan when he suggested a party, and neither did Laura and Max when they kept going to the quarry in the prologue. this group is not outwardly malicious or purposely trying to be obnoxious. they just dont know theres real actual monsters out there. who would?!

THE WEREWOLVES

how the werewolves are antagonists is pretty obvious i think.

but how they arent, isnt! even tho im neutral on their design, the writing behind the werewolves is amongst my favorite out of all the creatures Supermassive has written about so far. theyre mindless creatures with no recollection of their human selves. Nick could damn well be in love with Abi, doesnt matter bc if you miss that shot, hes going to rip her head off. the wolves are a legitimate danger, one you have no control over, but despite that, you dont want to kill them bc fuck theyre your FRIENDS and you know theres a way to change them back!

i dont want to compare but for example, in Until Dawn, there is no way to save Hannah, girl has just got to go. in Man of Medan, 90% of your attackers are the other playable characters, so just choose to chill out and youll be fine. in The Quarry, neither apply to the werewolves. your loved ones will attack you and you must defend yourself, but how far will you go to do so? will you kill them with silver to permanently end the threat? even tho they wouldve been back to normal by morning and couldve even been cured? or will you go easy on them, but risk getting infected yourself, or even worse, eaten alive?

its just so COMPLEX! you want to protect your loved ones, but the “loved one in danger” is constantly changing depending on which person a wolf is hunting down and which wolf is being hunted down. god, its one of my favorite things about the game!!

THE HACKETTS

how the Hacketts are antagonists is pretty simple. theyre trying to attack your ass. Bobby stabs Ryan and he must become infected to survive. Travis can murder Laura out of revenge, and Constance can shoot Laura out of annoyance. Chris and Caleb are werewolves who if you dont kill, will kill you (or just die in Caleb’s case). and this family has a bizarre tendency to just kidnap ppl without a word! Travis kept Laura and Max locked up for two months and barely told them anything! not until Laura “proved” her loyalty and intelligence. Bobby and Jed kidnap Jacob also without a word, not giving a shit about his pleas.

i mean ffs its their fault werewolves are even a danger in the first place. they burned down the Harum Scarum Traveling Show and let Silas loose. the Hacketts are major assholes.

how the Hacketts arent just antagonists are where things get complicated. for starters, yes the Traveling Show burning down is their fault. but if you have Laura and Travis survive to the end, you learn that it was done out of child-like ignorance. Kaylee and Caleb were young and didnt approve of Silas’ treatment, so they came up with the well intended plan to start a fire and help him escape. unaware of how quickly a fire spreads or that a bite from Silas would ruin their fucking lives.

in the present day, the Hacketts kidnap the counselors to either protect them or just get them out of the way (or both). they go about it in a really fucked up way, but theyre not trying to hurt them, quite the opposite, they just have the worst social skills in the gotdamn world. the Hacketts only turn outwardly aggressive after Laura kills Kaylee. the family feels immense grief and officially stops giving a shit, wanting to make Laura suffer as much as possible, especially as shes infected and trying to kill Chris.

the Hacketts are assholes, but they werent always like this and dont want to be like this.

everyone in the game just wants to move on with their lives, but they all have different ways of going about it and a lot of them directly conflict with one another. “whos the villain” changes depending on which pov youre looking through. its so interesting and so well done, and i love it a lot.

i just wanna go back man. i just wanna be a kid running around on feralheart and drawing my ocs again and watching silly movies with my friends. it feels like im living a lie every single day of my life since then.

it hurts and fills me with so much shame to say that i feel like a kid, like i stopped mentally aging in like 2012, 2014 at the latest. the dysphoria is strangling. i dont want to describe it but yeah it sucks so bad.

dysphoria and even feelings of 'transness' in places of identity other than gender and sex absolutely exist and are valid, and its really too bad its so stigmatized. you have my <3 and you have my thoughts. its tough, and theres more of us than youd think, hopefully, its an amount that comforts you... and i hope, you can find people who relate to you and you can share trust with and happy memories.

"performative disgust' is a topic i bring up a lot in this kinda discoursing. if i may, its pretty western too.. the need to be combative causes a strange sort of lash-out-culture, where people arent even neccisarily uninformed, its a lack of desire to be informed at all, and instead perform hatred for the acknowledgement of their peers. id know. it was me once. terrible and toxic situation, but its eaten the internet in many spaces....

its tough feeling trapped, unable to move forwards and feeling like youre "wrong". being disabled and growing up disabled makes those kinds of remarks and implications said by some people extra painful to me. and i know lots of us who feel dysphoria surrounding our facets of the self, both gender or non-gender, are neurodivergant as well, and as someone who was in special education, and then my school dropped me by force because i just "wouldnt" do my math, i know how painful it can feel both inside, but then to come forward and have people act like "just move forward" "just understand" "well you can never go back so just be here instead"... its painful.

Tw depreciating thoughts.

Finch is having a not great day. Everything that can go wrong did. Jojo snapped at him and albert brushed him off and when he asks race about maybe tagging along to brooklyn the other laughs "sorry finch never no one would want you there." Theres no food or sludge left for him. His stomach protests going hungry for 2 days now. He tries not to notice buttons give something to splasher and wish someone cared for him. Splasher was smaller. He deserved food. Finch reminds himself hes not as important. Hes a big boy he can go without. This wasn't a home no one owed him anything. Specs jokes he looks like he'd eaten something sour.

Finch forces a laugh He makes the excuse he forgot something at the bunks and tries to swallow his tears. Hes being stupid. So what if hes alone. So what if he wants a hug? Orphans and run aways dont get what they want and he should stop aiming so high. He's just about managed it when Mike pops in "Yous gonna make us late you grabbed everything now?"

Finch nods repeating to himself don't let no one see nothing. You're just a burden to them. It's not like they'd care. Finch missed Jack. He missed davey. He missed crutchie. They'd gotten out and he was glad.. he couldnt expect theyd come back not for him. who cares what he wanted hes just another newsboy. Don't make races life harder.

He goes thru the motions gets the minimum amount of papes he can and trudged off.

No ones buying. Not even when he tries to butter them up. Maybe they can instinctively tell he needs a win and are working with the universe to make sure it doesn't happen.

He drags his feet willing the day to go faster he should have enough for papers tomorrow if he sold these and stayed on the streets tonight.

A rich boy stumbles into him yelling "you don't belong here you dirty vermin. Watch where you're going."

He knows this song and dance and apologizes even though it hadn't been his fault only to be spat at.

He sits on a bench for a moment, willing his tears to stay deep in his body. Its half working until he hears a high society girl clear her throat.

He ignores it until she does it another time pointedly. "Seats aren't for you newsboys I'd like to take a seat."

"No one stopping you," his voice cracks.

"I dont want to be seen with a poor boy imagine the scandal!" The woman sounds as if that were the worst possible thing and some tears slip down his face. Right he's trash not worth anything.

"CRY elsewhere there's bridges and gutters. I have a tip.Look less sad maybe then someone will take pity and buy a paper. Your problems don't matter."

Finch nods scurrying away walking toward the bowery. Maybe he'd have more luck there and buttons would take pity on him.

Suddenly the sky opens up downpouring and finch thinks ain't that just poetic

He slids to the ground in an alley and sobs. His papers are ruined. He doesn't have money for lodging not that anyone would be looking for him.

Well he could beg a day or two get enough for some paoes maybe... maybe some food. Food sounded so good. Maybe he'd dig thru the trash for something... later though moving sounded too hard right now. He had the thought of someone finding him and hugging him and laughed hysterically sobbing harder at the absurdity. Did he think he was some rich person or elmer whom everyone adored? That someone was just gonna swoop in and make him feel better? No he was Finch. He wasn't 5. This wasn't a fairytale. He didn't have a family. He was alone and that was that. He rocked himself slightly the movement was the teeniest bit comforting. He closed his eyes stroking his hand with the other and letting himself pretend if just for one moment that someone was here with him. It felt nice. Is this how crutchie felt when Jackie hugged him? His heart ached. He wanted them even though it was selfish. He wanted someone to love him. Why was that impossible? He imagined soothing words whispered into his ears and cried reaching for a phantom that wasn't there.

AND THAT SUCH A TOUGH QUESTION ACTUALLY,, i think its more of an issue of snøfle Not getting along with anyone... my toxic trait is generally telling snøfle hes a very good boy even though hes very bad most of the time KLJDSAKDHJAS <333 these three exactly are actually VERY different with him so its very fun to imagine thank u for sending it in!!!!! kissing u<3333

but ill break down their relationships with him!

kuroos patience with snøfle is wearing thin... first of all hes already stated he prefer dogs if he has to pick, but loves all animals generally! so when i tell him about snøfle he smirks and thinks easy peasy !! but the way snøfle wont let the bathroom door stay closed for any private matter or the way that he gets territorial about my dinner table when im cooking (its like he Knows therell be food on it soon and he wants to make sure hes the first to get it???? hes so strange bcos i havent fed him human food by the table ever) HE WILL CHOMP ANY WHO TRIES TO SET THTE TABLE. we have fooled snøfle exactly once (1) to believe that kuroos lap was mine underneath a blanket, and kuroo still tells the story of how snøfle sat on his lap proudly to everyone (omitting the fact that he was tricked, bamboozled, fooled). i think snøfle would LOVE kenma, which in turn would only make kuroo more frustrated tbh.... and the chances are that snøfle primarily likes kenma to annoy kuroo... i see a rivalry ..... and dont get me started if kuroo ever needs to petsit snøfle for me JHDSAKJHDAJ... he will hiss, whine, bite, headbutt, attack, cuddle, scream, hiss again... all in the first five minutes. when we go to bed in the evening, snøfle will howl and whine and complain when kuroo comes to cuddle. hes allowed nowhere near me (snøfle and i share a pillow and NOTHING shall come between that!).. so.. strained. battle of the garbage dump but its just kuroo having beef with my fat senior feline

shinsou on the other hand has no qualms about snøfles behavior. of course he internally wishes for more love from snøfle, but he isnt interested in forcing a relationship with him, taking every bite or slap without a grimace (even /i/ get worried about his indifference to snøfles Bad Boy Behavior). snøfle reluctantly opens up to shinsou only bcos he doesnt become visibly annoyed with him/puts up with his behavior after so long, and while he doesnt voluntarily cuddle with shinsou if im there, he will tolerate a petting and a good play while i read or write !!! theyre besties if im away, cuddling and spooning away as if he was the primary owner ! its very cute, but as soon as i unlock the door, he pretends shinsou doesnt exist again in favor of my attention. theres nothing more adorable than seeing the selfies shinsou sends of them tho!!!

and for last i got allen which is just a whole... oof situation, for both of them. allens got timcanpy who has a track record of being eaten by cats and snøfles NO exception when it comes to want to chomp him. its... terrible for everyone involved. allens childish side comes forth when it comes to snøfle, bcos snøfle is just so downright outrageous and rude. allen can talk perfectly poised and polite until snøfle enters the room with what allen perceives as a evil and mean grin. plus, snøfles a pretty RUDE food begger and allens VERY protective of his food. its not really... an ideal match, tbh. theres so much meat on allens plate so snøfles naturally more inclined to beg by him than me which doesnt help !!! i wish theyd get along better.. sometimes allen throws him a piece of meat in hopes itll leave him alone, but its only until the bites been devoured, then hes back on the table, all up in his face! i try to tell him this, but he do get desperate sometimes when snøfle almost steps on the plate or tips over his cup. although on VERY FEW occassions i have found them next to me on the bed in the middle of the night, cuddled up with allens arm around snøfles tummy. they both deny this, though. all my photo evidence has been mysteriously deleted......... i think snøfle will simply claim he thought it was my hand if we ever found a cat translation app.

all in all. i think its safe to say. majorrrr disappointment on literally every single front. except like, robin and vickie i guess.

bloodbath? carnage? gonna sit and stare for a while after finishing? baby. none of that is true. actors are professional liars. everything that happened this season felt like a whole lotta nothing. the russia plotline dragged onnn and onnn and the cali gang were totally sidelined and stancy? in 2022? there goes steves arc. so many relationships juuuust down the drain.

i hate that its eddie who died. i liked eddie, yeah, but gaaaah i cant get OVER it if youre gonna go around saying its time to kill off some of the main cast just DO THE DAMN THING!!!! people have been waiting for steve to die since like season 1 man. kill him. commit to killing max. commit to killing hopper. kill nancy! jonathan! i dont care who just dont create another side character just to kill him. im pretty sure they split s4 into 2 volumes one for the money slash hype two it was a way to like. make people get attached to eddie. so him dying would feel like a main cast character dying. there were so many good opportunities to kill steve. i dont want steve to die, im just saying. PLUS eddies death is not mentioned at ALL after the fact with any of the gang, like ???? i get max is in the hospital but he was mike and lucas and dustins friend and everyone bonded with him youd think theyd show a little bit of mourning rather than just.ignoring it. focusing on max. ?????

and the wayyyy he died like they could have hopped back to hawkins and if the bats started to leave just fall in lure them back hop right out. eddie running to the bats makes no sense especially because as he was being killed the people he was trying to protect are being strangled by vines. so. completely pointless. this final battle was incredibly lame and his death was just so anticlimactic.

im upset abt byler bc, while i didnt think it would actually happen, i thought, idk, will would have some importance? mikes not that stupid. hes a dumb dumb idiot (affectionate) but he’s not blind and it really makes no sense to craft the byler narrative like this UNLESS theres an Actual Good Scene in s5 of will like coming out and mike being a good friend.

and like i get that steves relationship with dustin is special but come on he’s friends with the other kids too and that is just so consistently ignored. he and robin and nancy and jonathan know all these kids and have for a Long Time and its just always dustin with the older guys and. where is my steve and lucas or steve and max or robin and max or hell even robin and mike dynamic. they hang out i know they do. show it to us. and dont show us stancy. dont show us steve wanting six kids and an apple pie life with nancy of all people. like i get long time yearning, i am a big fan of that actually, but with stancy... especially the way their relationship ended!! you cant retcon that. nobody wants it.

quick side note too like steve was just... okay? after being choked twice and having his insides eaten? never mentioned again? theyre so weird with physical injuries. dustin got his stupid little limp but steve is never shown to be hospitalized or even checked out and his choking bruise rash is just. gone. after two days. yeah, no, i dont buy that. its just him being ignored and forgotten in the narrative.

AND  THEN we spend all season watching incredibly stretched out narratives with all the separate groups. and we dont even see them all together. only some of them. i get that season 5 is supposed to pick up immediately after (? it has to, right?) but where was that moment of everyone coming together with one piece of the puzzle to make things make sense. the different plotlines didnt connect. if youre gonna make the story focus on the plotlines and not the characters then at least try and make the plot cooler, you know? it just felt. weak. like marvel movies feel. oh goody another fucking monologue.

and now im just being nitpicky but eye personally am not a fan of the jokes abt hopper being skinnier slash not fat. i needed to lose weight or im not fat anymore (to el) or you shrunk like no shit he lost weight. he was in a RUSSIAN PRISON being fed moldy bread for EIGHT MONTHS. that just what this show needed. jokes abt starving making someone look better slash healthier. they dont outright say he looks better, i’ll give them that, but it is 1000% implied that its a good thing he lost weight, mostly brushing over the STARVING IN A RUSSIAN PRISON aspect of it.

and even more nitpicky the one good thing of robin and vickie? yay another skinny white girl. more skinny white lesbians. hoo ray. wheres that bechdel comic abt why dont they show anyone like us?

vecna looked stupid. there was too much for shock value. where was argyle in the last scene? abandoned in the woods? murray? like its full on 7 am right now and i am. i knew id be disappointed. i knew i would. and i am! this show has lived long enough to see itself become the villain.

however. mike is my baby. steve is my baby girl. i love robin and i love lucas and i love jonathan and argyle and joyce <3 and mike again hes really just my idiot baby boy i love the characters and i am looking forward to seeing the, frankly, much better alternatives other people come up with. duffers :( stop trying to outdo yourselves. you cant. you dont want to. sigh.

heres a little my thoughts on the dirkjake of the modern day

as is apparent the dirkjake scene is preoccupied with cannibal violence evil dirkjake. its evil dirkjake all the way down but this era is VIOLENT. its blood and guts and viscera. this was spawned by respected tumblr user borzoi who i also respect and admire a lot.

HOWEVER. on instagram my wonderful mutual was like I dont really like the cannibal dirkjake goings on. and i respect and admire my mutual a lot too is the thing. unnamed cus i dont want even a semblance of threat of discourse between users (even though i know both parties would NOT engage in such a thing).

ANYWAY: my thoughts? before i knew about cannibal dirkjake i was a big fan of dirk being the worst freak ever and jake being hesitant or careful. something about it speaks to me. it speaks to how overwhelming dirk is, how much jake is a people pleaser even if he personally doesnt want to do something. i dont think jake deep down would WANT to do violence to dirk the guy he loves. i think dirk would want jake to do violence to him though because it feeds his self loathing. and thats subconscious for him but i think in a corner of his mind he knows it, but it just fuels it more and its so addicting. this is to say; dirk wants jake to cannibalize him, and jake is like Um. haha. What? Um. You want that? Really? Wont it hurt?

and of course i could be wildly misreading jake as a character. but you know whos to say. the thing about jake is that he could go any which way postcanon because he built up all these pretenses and now theyre all crumbling (i read this somewhere... dont remember where. maybe tomatograter.) . ive read fics obviously where jake wants to kill hurt maim dirk and dirks cool with it (even playing a little hard to get. tsundere if you will) (SORRY.) but like... they all displayed jake as this villain or monster which he CAN be but ugh. ugh. REAL jake english? real postcanon jake english?

perhaps its that hes as i believed him at the beginning of postcanon. up through epilogues and hs2. i think it would take him millenia to get over himself. i think lord jake english or ultimate jake would totally kill murder maim. i dont think regular jake would. i think thats where i am right now

since im on a roll: i definitely think dirk would want to get eaten or killed by his lover cus of aforementioned reasons. i think he would feel so terribly bad about cannibalizing his partner or even killing them, especially if its jake. hes so CAREFUL around jake is the thing. hes afraid he will be too much again. but he cant keep being careful thats not who he is. i think dirk thinks killing his lover is a selfish move on his part and he doesnt want to be like, too much, so hes like The best way to do this. Is to do it on Jakes call. and so jake has to be the one to eat him.

though in a scenario where they are killing each other theyd be fighting mutually already... i dont know. i guess i have a hard time picturing them fighting in general it doesnt interest me much. im a sucker for passive aggressiveness and unspoken signs and miscommunication and SILENCE. its what im accustomed to. and assuming the two of them live in perhaps the same place, theres just this unspoken weird gap between them neither can cross, its hard to believe either can kill or cannibalize the other. UNLESS dirk confronts jake like I want this. Kill me please jake. You have to decapitate me. in which case it will be awkward and weird and i spoke about this.

one thing about me is that i love to write abt nonhuman characters. i love realism in my fics i love science and especially biology i love writing abt the little details of people w different anatomy. like i was thinking abt different outfits for the rito, would bird people be able to wear long sleeves? apparently not as i found out its the shape of the wings and feathers that allow birds to fly. and how would they show being flustered, since i write humans blushing a lot, but obviously birds have feathers covering their skin. well apparently humans blush bc the increased blood flow is an adrenaline response, so i figured that my first instinct of fluffed feathers (also a danger response) wasnt totally off-base. writing a fic abt the minotaur, technically cows have a hard palate in place of incisors/canines, but for him to have eaten human flesh, surely he has to have teeth for cutting meat, so i put in a scene w someone pointing out his teeth being different from cow teeth (or lack thereof). and even. dare i go here but. people have latched on so hard to that idea of sharks having two dicks, but its bc the claspers are an extension of the two lower fins, and since there are two of those fins bc animals tend to be symmetrical, thats why theres two. so if we do come at it from the sharks angle, the only way i can swing it for the zora is that those fins at their waists that look like faulds would come all the way around to the front and the claspers would come off there (im not the culture guy so dont ask me if theyd still just walk around w them out there). not to mention that in practice peoples descriptions are more like hemipenes in that theyre right next to/on top of each other and come out of an internal space. but hemipenes invert, they dont like slide out exactly. dont have any comment on how these things relate to my writing bc im not writing fish porn but like i said i just love biology and think this stuff is rad as hell.

ANIME & MANGA I HAVE BINGED IN THE LAST MONTH: May 2021

I've Been Hunting Slimes for the Past 300 Years and Now Ive Maxed Out My Level: incredibly long name aside, cute af slice of life that suffers Same Face Syndrome. I'm still happy to watch it because of how feel good and fluffy it is though, Im probably gonna forget about it in two or three years tho. 8/10.

Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro: I found out this was a webcomic first and suddenly all the HORNINESS made so much more sense. A Femdom, Degradation, Humiliation, Dacryphilia Bullies to Lovers story disguised as a high school rom-com which, I'm not going to lie, misses SKEEVY CITY by mere inches on a regular basis. However, I'm a Dom/Switch and this entire relationship sets off my dom brain center like New York City just shy of midnight. So if you're into that sort of scene, this anime is for you. If not, it's still fascinating but you're probably gonna be a little put off by how mean the Girl!Bully is to the guy MC. Unless you find out something about yourself, in which case, congrats! Stay safe, sane, consensual, and learn about the traffic light system on top of safe words, I promise you'll have a better life in general after that. Still Ongoing, currently 10/10.

Fruits Basket: IM GONNA CRY I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH???? The original anime came out when I was in... I think middle school and my parents were really strict on what I watched so I never got to experience the first wave and I never bothered to watch the show ever after I moved out of the house years later. However, now that I'm much older I honestly can say this is one of my favorite anime to date, and all the characters are charming, lovable, with their own problems that I can connect to or sympathize with, and I love the MC which is always a treat tbh. Except Akito. Akito can suck a sandpaper dick. I'm only on S2 tho so no spoilers! Anime 11/10.

Monster Girl Doctor: went in thinking it was gonna be a monster girl who's a doctor with a homoerotic assistant (her name is SAPPHY okay sue me for thinking it) and ended up watching the entire dubbed harem series. Honestly, I've seen worse and this one has consistent follow-through on interesting characters and backstory enough for me to shove aside the blatant under-monstrousness of the female monsters and the harem-ness of everything else. Dubbing is honestly really good, which is a treat, and the monster designs are not the worst and the MC is tolerable. Honestly, I don't mind having watched it! The mix of cgi and the traditional animation together work pretty strangely though, and it often doesn't flow super well. 7.5/10

So I'm a Spider, So What: Dubbed version which honestly isn't that bad. Took me a bit to get into it, but after realizing that it's got a mismatched timeline a la The Witcher, it made so much more sense. Heavily done in cgi, and you can definitely tell between the 2D and 3D animations, but not the worst in the world. I went in not expecting much but it ended up being an Issekai I can stand and even enjoy. On god has a decent story... with the spider. I'd be a liar if I didnt say I skipped some of the human parts just to get back to the best part of the show. 8/10.

Somali and the Forest Spirit: I'm so fucking nostalgic for this thing it makes me want to go and hug my dad. About a human girl under threat of being eaten with a monster-dominated world. Very obvious "humans fear what they don't understand" message but instead of the humans learning tolerance it's what happens when they get annihilated first so like, kudos for the mangaka for having the guts to do that. I cried like a baby regularly. It's really good, I watched the dub and ID WATCH IT AGAIN!!! 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Oh my god. O h my g o d. Fell in love on the first episode, ngl. About if an immortal being learned how to be a person from scratch. I love it. HOWEVER. Keep a box of tissues on you at all times because you're gonna need them. I'm only on EP7 because that's all that's out right now but just know. I love it. Not for everyone but certainly for my "what do we define as human and the human condition" ass. 12/10.

Those Snow White Notes: A sports anime without any sports. About shamisen playing which is cool because I never realized how cool this instrument was??? Its neat af. OP1&2 are by Burnout Syndrom so know theyre fire. Gonna be real, its pretty alright, but not extraordinary. You can tell they were using the characters as archetypes rather than actually characters which kinda kills a lot of the emotional value you could've had, but I'm still gonna watch it. It doesn't make me cringe as hard as other sports anime tho so I consider it toptier in that regards but if you're a big sports anime fan you might be bummed out by it. Every single musical performance is INCREDIBLE tho. A solid 8/10.

Toilet Bound Hanako-kun: THE ART OMFG IT'S SO GORGEOUS. Listen, if you took coptic markers and gave them an animation budget with some manga panel direction thrown in there, that's this anime. It's beautiful. Gorgeous. I'm in love with the aesthetic every second. Story? Really good. Characters? I love the MC and his evil little twin brother asshat. Demons? Not super imaginative but I'm carrying on happy as can be anyways. Dubbing? A bit shaky at times but I found the voices charming if a little off for some of them. I'm already waiting for the second season with popcorn at the ready. 10/10.

Prison School: I watched this directly after Hanako-kun and it was like I got slapped in the face by sweaty unwashed titties and some fedora wearing schmuck's piss kink. No character is likable or redeemable. I finished it, but at what cost? 2/10 and only because a character shit his pants and I laughed.

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle: watched this right after Prison School and it was NECESSARY tbh. Its so CUTE and honestly, im not even kidding you, the fucking funniest anime I've seen in months. I watched the dub and the VAs are having the time of their lives working on this anime not just giving it their all but literally just going ham. Its great. If I read this im sure id be bored outta my mind but the VAs giving it a joyous performance make it an insta fave for me tbh. 9/10.

Sk8 the Infinity: i watched the dub with my bro and I can confirm that its a spectacular show because we both loved it and we have vastly different tastes. Incredibly SUSPENSFUL AND STRESSFUL for an anime about skateboarding but we finished it in a single sitting tbh. The last episode is not dubbed for some reason but we still loved it. Like if Free! was less obnoxious but the only fan-service here is Joe ♡ a beefcake who owns my lesbian heart. I think there's exactly one named female character tho and I legit couldn't tell you what it was if there was a gun to my head. So, over all, 9.5/10.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: I'm going to be entirely honest, I went in thinking it was going to be a boring isekai of no value. I was right about the Isekai part. It was honestly pretty interesting and focused on nation building like you're playing civilization rather than the usual "Get Stronger" narrative or "Get Some Pussy" narrative most isekais take which is delightfully refreshing. Granted there are flavors of that in this which means it doesn't alienate the big isekai watchers out there, but it's not the whole dish and it doesn't make me want to cringe the same way others do. You've got a slime MC just vibing and building a nation of monsters nbd. Does lose points for making the female monsters more humanoid than their male counterparts but makes them back by only doing perfunctory fan-service and nothing that makes me want to cry... except the butt sumo episode but in fairness it was all a terrible dream. Literally, the MC refuses to dream anymore after that. solid animation, decent voice acting, decent story, made me realize how HUGE this is in the Light Novel community???? There's like 18 fucking novels and that's WILD. 8.5/10.

MANGA:

Spirit Photographer Saburo Kono: a one shot special by the mangaka of The Promised Neverland! Honestly a really delicate touch of both super creepy and really touching, and I'm not gonna lie I'm bummed that this isn't a bigger project but the single chapter makes it a good taste for their style. I've been wondering if I wanna read/watch The Promised Neverland and now I think I will. 10/10

Deranged Detective Ron Kamonohashi: from the mangaka of Hitman Reborn comes this Sherlock and Watson derivative! Not even 20 chapters out yet with a sort of spotty schedule, I honestly love it even thought it's exactly as you expect. HOWEVER. Kamonohashi the "Sherlock" character uses mental pressure to kill all confirmed murderers and it's up to Toto the "Watson" character to save all those people before Kamonohashi kills them! It's just recently introduced a "Moriarty" family of crime lords (not a big spoiler don't worry it was obvious) so the tension surrounding Ron's past is amping up rn. Personally, I think the art is GORGEOUS, the characters engaging, and the story quick enough to keep my interest. Most mysteries are solved within a chapter or two so you're not stuck 20 chapters into one locked room mystery which is just peachy tbh. RN, 10/10. If this gets an anime, I anticipate a legion of fangirls who ship the two main characters along with their many friends. I've been alive too long to believe otherwise.

Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro: Yeah I read the manga after I watched the show. A slower build than the anime, but it works for the format, if theyd done the same with the show then I don't think it wouldve done as well. Honestly? Cuter tbh but just as horny. You dont start really LEARNING about your character until like, chap 65 tho and no real "drama" happens until like 75. A good chunk of the chapters are like 8pgs so its a breeze to get through. I love these slow burn idiots of the century. 9.5/10 because you can DEFINITELY tell the mangaka does hentai too.

Yugen's All-Ghouls Homeroom: one-shot by the mangaka for Food Wars, it's no wonder there's this constant perviness from the MC, a guy who can see and exorcise spirits. Takes place at an all girl's finishing school with KICK ASS monsters tbh, kinda bummed its not longer. The MC? Blatant monsterfucker who is also a CONFRIMED monsterfucker???? Idk i vibe with that single emotion. Everything else is hit or miss. 7/10 for monsters and cool concept, lost points for the MC very pointedly being okay with admitting he'd wait for the teenagers to be adults tho. Creepy af. Could live without that.

Hell's Paradise: I finished the entire 127chps in 3 days and I was really enthusiastic about it 90% of the time thinking about how deep it was and then I actually thought about it and I ended up being very neutral about the whole thing tbh. The art is fantastic tho, but DEFINITELY deserving of the M rating. Tits. Tits everywhere. But not tits to be ecchi over, no, monster hermit tits on beautiful women-ish figures. Now generally I give that a pass but a huge theme in the story is that men and women are "no better than one or the other" but like, lady tits are what you see 99% of the time. Men tits are few and far between. I call bullshit on most of the "deep" themes is what I'm saying, so it's like the mangaka was trying for those deep thoughts but missed the margin a little too far for my preference. That being said, the MC is a married man who loves his wife which automatically makes him my favorite character so like... idk so many good things, so many misses, but overall really spectacular themes and imagery. Unique but classic all at once. It's getting an anime and I have NO IDEA how much censorship they're gonna be doing but they're going to be doing SO MUCH. Oh yeah, and one guy is a plant/human hybrid who fucks a 1000 year old plant-hermit which makes him a canon monster fucker. And one canon non-binary character who I, a nonbinary, actually like. So like... gosh I've got mixed feelings. 8.5/10.

Choujin X: From Sui Ishida, mangaka to the mega hit Tokyo Ghoul comes this brand new manga!... Of one chapter, lol. Not really binge-y because it's just the one chapter out right now but I'm already keeping my eye on it. The grasp on anatomy in the art is PHENOMENAL and you can see Ishida flexing his art skill which is great. Can't give a true rating but I'm giving it a tentative 9/10 because I'm excited to see more.

Shag&Scoob: technically not a manga, its an ongoing webcomic I binged an subscribed to in one day and I just think it deserves more attention. Starts off funny with "what if Scooby Doo had a gun" and has been led to "what if all cartoons are aliens that survive and receive their powers by the humans that love them in an epic war with Martians." On god, its good. I finished the current series in a couple hours so it's a breezy read, highly recommend it. 9/10.

To Your Eternity: Yeah I watched the anime and then finished all current 143 chapters in like 3 days. GOD IM WEAK. I don't buy physical manga unless I know I want to remember the story forever and I'm already budgeting for the current books out. Yeah, this is a good series. That being said, definitely not for the faint of heart or those who suffer under common triggers like suicide, molestation, death, etc. It's all framed as bad and necessary to the story don't get me wrong, but it's there and has lasting affects on the characters. Incredible story telling by the creator of A Silent Voice. Keep tissues nearby at all times. 12/10.

mina sometimes plants herself in jihyo’s lap randomly:

in between their sets backstage during concerts;  

while theyre hanging out between takes for a variety show theyre filming;

a movie’s playing and everyone’s squished themselves into their living room to watch;

(samo are sprawled across each other as usual, nayeons talked chaeyoung into sitting into her lap somehow, tzuyu is content to sit with her back leaning against jeongs shins, dahyun is off to the corner but close enough for sana to bother. and minas firmly situated in jihyos lap, with a heavy knit blanket thrown over their shoulders) 

on the dance practice floor when theyre taking water breaks - minas sitting in the natural v, jihyos legs make;

she’ll crawl into jihyos lap and settle herself comfortably there - honestly, mina reminds jihyo of a very young kitten

wedging herself into an impossibly small ball and curling herself under jihyos chin, nudging herself in the spaces that jihyo hadnt realised were mina spaces

jihyo lifts her arms up, just high enough to allow mina to crawl in, to be held 

it’s in the little things too: 

mina plugging jihyos phone in to charge when shes fallen asleep; sometimes setting an alarm (or two) so jihyo doesnt miss an early appointment

jihyo falls asleep in some of the oddest positions 

mina’s caught her asleep while setting her alarms for the next day, hands still gripping onto her phone, the screen lit up to show the clock alarm app 

other times, mina makes an extra mug of ginger-lemon-honey tea after a gruelling concert, to soothe jihyos throat (jihyo always does her best and doesnt think to also make herself a mug of tea after checking in on everyone)

jihyo takes the mug in both hands, not before encasing minas hands under hers, absentmindedly noting how the spaces between her fingers slot perfectly with mina’s, misses the way mina’s cheeks tinge pink at the casual affection

jihyo lets mina steal the blankets at night, lets her take all the sheets to her side of the bed and roll around in them, leaving jihyo freezing at 3:22am 

(jihyo snatches the heavy throw blanket laying at the foot of the bed for this exact reason - mina apologises to her the next day by making her a steaming mug of coffee, fixed extra strong with soy milk)

sometimes jihyo will have a really hectic, full on day -

(makeup at 4:30 am for a 7am photoshoot that runs for 3 hours, followed closely by an interview, theres a short break for lunch - eaten in the car on the way to a brand event. her day ends with a work-out session and running over tomorrow’s schedule with her managers) 

- and mina greets her with takeout boxes from jihyo’s fav spots, dorm cleaned and the other girls are preoccupied doing their own thing. jihyo exhales a breath she hadnt realised she was holding, the tension leaving her shoulders almost automatically, when mina grins up at her over her phone

when they go on tour, jihyo catches minas gaze from across the stage and there are reassuring messages left unsaid, but they echo loud and clear in minas mind (“youre doing well” -  “im proud of u” - “i love u!”)

mina thinks jihyo is adorable for wanting to learn how to play animal crossing or whatever other game jihyo digs out of minas organised game shelf

other times they just sit in the living room, or side-by-side on the couch doing their own thing

jihyos scrolling down her twitter feed, randomly liking posts while mina’s furiously chopping trees down on her animal crossing island;

quietly eating breakfast together because theyve somehow managed to wake up before everyone else and the dorm is uncharacteristically peaceful. the only noise comes from their hushed chewing or an occasional yawn

their eyes meet and jihyo internally notes that mina’s sleepy smile is probably the cutest thing shes ever seen and will never grow tired of seeing it

minas not rly a morning person

if she had the choice, she’d permanently start her days after 11am, but she might need to rethink that bc of the way jihyos face lit up after she’d agreed to an early breakfast, truly put the sun to shame

they stay up late chatting, lying on their sides talking about nothing and everything. its dark, and the room is dimly lit by their bedside lamp, but mina still notices how sparkly and brown and wide jihyos eyes are

they just really enjoy each other’s company;

they dont rly have much time outside of their busy days just due to the nature of their job, but theyd willingly forgo that time alone, to spend with each other

mina just wants to be alone with jihyo and talk about the weather

always has an urge to talk to jihyo. shes got nothing to say, nothing to talk about even. but she wants to tell jihyo all of her important nothings 

wants to tell her shes a fossil short of completing her museum; saw a dog on her morning walk with the exact same shade of gold fur like ray has; shes figured out how to make the double arrowhead pattern on her friendship bracelets

and jihyo is the same: this funny thing happened to me on the way to the gym this morning, and mina is the only one she’ll tell 

jihyo brings the girls home to her family during the holidays, and while nayeon and jeongyeon are fond, but lovable menaces, mina is gradually growing to be her mother’s favourite 

mina introduces jihyo to her family when they go to japan for their first tour

mina’s never seen her dog warm to someone so quickly before

jihyo, meanwhile, has found herself trapped under a sleeping puppy whenever she visits

more often than not, mina feels lost, out of place, overwhelmed and jihyos there holding her hand, with gentle reassurances, and soft smiles reserved just for her

mina hardly knows where to begin, but jihyos a safe place to start 🥰
