Dadadadan!!" by the series' supporting cast as the unit Sura-chans is used in the second promotional trailer for Revoroot's anime adaptation of Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life: Dai-2 no Shokugyou wa Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita. In the summer of 2022, the television anime will premiere.

I want to talk about an unofficial(?) trope of isekai anime that I've seen in action like six times... the 'Slimes are somehow OP' thing!

Either by killing, taming, or being a slime you can become OP. That's fucking hilarious to me, and it'll probably never stop being fun to me!

Slimes are your typical low level enemy that you see in the start of the game that probably won't be able to kill you. Like goblins, but usually not even sentient. So when an anime decides to subvert the 'slimes are a weak nuisance' thing it has the potential to be really funny!

With That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime our protagonist is reborn as a slime, aka the weakest monster to exist. They may not be strong or smart, but actually have some decent advantages to being one. They don't need food as they can just eat magic, so no need for hunting or buying food. Their entire body is their brain, so they don't have one specific weak spot. They also don't sleep, don't breathe, and have temperature resistances. That means no time wasted on sleep, can go to places a human can't, and don't need to work about heat or cold. They also can regenerate their body's and absorb and dissolve things. Provided you have a way to level them up and give them sentience, they could actually be useful to you. Rimuru is one of the strongest beings alive despite being a slime, so if you have skills to go well with it reincarnating into one may not be a bad idea.

In the anime/manga 'I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level' you definitely wouldn't want to be a slime, but they can still help you along quite a bit. Azusa is reincarnated as an unaging witch, and lives a peaceful life killing the local slimes. They are somewhat incapable of doing damage and take a single hit by a level one adventurer to kill. By killing 25~ a day and selling their loot, Azusa's casual lifestyle is enough to not only buy food and necessitys, but also enough to level her up to the maximum level. If you have time and want to level up with no risk to yourself, find an area with a high density of slimes and kill as many as you can every day, and slowly but surely you'll be able to level up and learn more magic.

Now we move on to the uses of taming slimes for power!

In 'My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World!' a man named Yuji is reincarnates as a 'Monster Tamer', which is widely regarded as the weakest class. He tames a bunch of friendly slimes, and quickly figures out that he can learn skills and cast magic through his new companions. He can also communicate with them through long distances to use them as scouts and mobile weapons, and he can store items inside of them. Tame some slimes, find some magic books, and get learning to be able to have an OP army at your disposal!

'By the Grace of the Gods' is my least favorite on this list, enough that I never finished it. An adult man named Ryoma is reincarnated as a small child, and spends a few years breeding different varieties of slimes. (The reason I dislike it is unrelated to this, I can talk about that in another post if anyone is interested.) By figuring out their potential to evolve, Ryoma is able to have 37 different types of slimes at his disposal. There's ones that can clean, another that can grow plants, make medicine, and one that seems to just be made out of blood.

Last one I've got for you is called 'Black Summoner' and though it only has one slime, it still proves my point. Tamers are the rarest class in the world, but if your somehow fortunate to end up as a tamer I would highly recommend adding a slime to your team. Kelvins first tamed monster is a slime named Clotho. Clotho started out with 5 HP but quickly level up by fighting and absorbing other weak slimes. Eventually he evolves into a 'Slime Gluttonia', a monster known for being extremely rare and dangerous. Even on his own Clotho is a powerhouse, but his abilities to assist the team make him even better. He can store items in his body, and he can also split into smaller pieces. Tamers in this world have a special ability that allows for telepathic communication between monster and master. By splitting himself into pieces and clinging to other people, he can give them access to the telepathic chat room.

Rimaru is a slime who's one of the most powerful beings in their world. Azusa got so powerful by casually killing slimes. Yuji is strong because he was able to use his slimes to their full potential. Ryoma is strong on his own, but by using his slimes he has an army of useful companions. Kelvin isn't powerful because of his slime, but by using him the way he did, it was able to kickstart his adventuring career and more.

Tell me, are slimes pathetic now?

First Impression: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World

Yuji, a Tamer who is also a Sage, works with his army of slimes (plus a dryad and a wolf) to save a town from an onslaught of monsters. The job well done, he sneaks out under cover of night and heads to the next town. Oh, along the way a random flashback implies that Yuji was once an overworked salaryman. We also learn that a generically evil cult is behind the horde of monsters. That’s that first episode, but wait, there’s more! We actually get two episodes for the series premiere. Yuji forms a party with Rodis, Tina, and Lisa to investigate the whereabouts of a dragon. Rodis is overtly sketchy. In a dream, Yuji recalls how he got isekai’d, and met a friendly slime who led him to a random library with a ton of other slimes who helped him become overpowered. Rodis commits sudden but inevitable betrayal, but Yuji puts him and his bandit buddies on ice. The moon turns purple and this is a Bad Thing.

This series seems to open confusingly in medias res, but then the second episode reveals Yuji only got isekai’d a week ago, so actually not much has been skipped over. The soundtrack is pretty good, but beyond that the show looks to be a generic isekai power fantasy: moderately entertaining, but relatively shallow. And I’ll still come back next week. Why? Because slimes! Yuji’s pack of cutesy and goofy slimes (including a delightfully nonsensical slime theater ED) was entertaining enough that I’ll tune in at least once more to see their antics. My overall expectations are still pretty low, but My Isekai Life may prove reasonably enjoyable if it stays funny enough.

Anime of the day underrated isekai ?

To answer your question, I’ll have to break the genre down a bit. When I think if isekai, I think of the action adventure fantasy types, the slice of life types, and the romance types. I’ve gone ahead an included the ones I plan to watch at the bottom. I know that some of these are more well known. I just kinda picked the ones I enjoyed watching.

Adventure/Fantasy:

Ascendance of a Bookworm is about a girl who is obsessed with books. After dying under a pile of books, she is reincarnated as a sickly girl in a loving family; however, in order to achieve her goal of having books, she will have to revolutionize the world. I’ve had so much fun reading the light novels of this series, and the anime does a good job adapting it.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a slime who wants to become friends with humanity. While he was originally a human, Rimuru is now a slime, and while he didn’t have an original goal, after meeting a dragon and some goblins, he sets his sights on befriending humanity. I’m currently on volume 8 of Slime’s light novel series. I was reading a volume a day for a while there. I’ve been holding myself back on reading number 8.

Saga of Tanya the Evil is about a man who, after dissing a god, is reincarnated into the body of a girl. However, he takes his position as Tanya very seriously, and he plans to give Tanya, who was a starving orphan, a better life. So, Tanya joins the military and earns the nickname the "Devil of the Rhine. I also collect this series. It was such a switch from the standard isekai format.

So I'm a Spider, So What? Is about a girl who’s whole class gets reincarnated, but she doesn’t know this. She ends up a spider and does anything and everything she can to survive. By now you probably recgonize a pattern. I also collect this one.

Reincarnated as a Sword is another strange recarnation story. This is the story of Fran, a black cat beastman who yerns to evolve, and Shishou, a man who was reincarnated into a magical sword. The light novels for this series are so fun to read! I can’t wait for the next volume to drop!

Overlord is one of the big names in the genre. You have probably seen it. I also collect this one.

The Boy and the Beast is about a boy who accidentally stumbles into a beast realm. It is here that he makes a home, but the more time he spends in the human world, the more he wonders what life might be like on the other side.

My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World is about a guy who gets epic slime master powers.

Slice Of Life:

Restaurant to Another World is about a restaurant who’s door magically appears in specific places. Once inside the guests can enjoy a wide range of food. I do collect this series. It can be challenging to get volumes for it, but I try.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear is about a gamer girl who is tossed into a fantasy world with an overpowered bear onesie. And while she is embarrassed by her attire, she doesn’t let it stop her from enjoying her life.

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level is about a witch who has been killing slimes for about 300 years and has accidently maxed out her level. Once words starts getting around, challengers start showing up ruing Azusa’s easy going life.

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill is about a guy who cooks in another world. I feel like a lot of these titles are self explanatory.

Farming Life in Another World is about guy who wanted a nice easy life farming, so he gets reincarnated with a magic farming tool and gets dropped in the middle of an extremely dangerous forest, but he doesn’t know this, and he builds a farm.

Parallel World Pharmacy is about a medical researcher who is reborn as a ten-year-old named Falma. He decides he wants to help people, and he crates a medical practice; however, this worlds medican is crazy different from what he is use to, so he’s gonna be making a lot of waves.

Uncle from Another World is about an uncle who was in a coma in the human world, but who was reincarnated into a fantasy world. One day he wakes up and he has to learn how to handle living in the modern world. He is also a hard core SEGA fan.

Romance:

The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent is about Sei, an office worker reincarnated into another world. However, she was not the only one summoned. Aira was also summoned, and the crown prince decrees that Aira, who was a high schooler, is the saint and he completely ignores Sei. So, she joins a research instatude and enjoys her life. That is till she accidentally starts tossing around incredible amounts of magic everywhere. Volume 8 of this series will be coming out soon. I can’t wait!

Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion is about Raeliana being reincarnated into a book she has read. Which means she knows her character is distended to die, so now she must find a way around her death without destroying the plot too much.

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Is about a gamer girl who is reincarnated into an otome game as the villainess, but she doesn’t want to have a crappy ending, so she takes over hellbent on not dying.

I'm the Villainess, So I'm Taming the Final Boss is about a girl who decides, after being reincarnated as a villainess, to make the demon king her husband. I also collect this series; it’s quite funny.

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady is about Anis, who can’t use magic but creates magical devices the work kinda like magic, and Euphyllia, Anis’s brother’s ex-fiance. Because Ains can’t use magic, she cannot rule and is kinda useless, so her brother is forced into an engagement to Euphyllia, who he publicly rejects in place of a commer girl. So, Ains tries to fix Euphyllia’s messed up life. I collect this series too.
