1. if you could switch bodies with anybody for only one hour who would it be and what would you do? I think I gotta say taylor swift OBVI. first off im gonna dropping ME! acoustic version. Then I’m gonna hope lover deluxe is already recorded, drop that. If not i will make sure to text Jack and tell him that we need to record it so that i get it either way 😼. Then I would find out the definite truth of what happened between her and Karlie Kloss. I’d wire myself (as in me- me) a few million dollars, pet the cats and then post something really random on her instagram story. Literally want to make the public go absolutely bananas trying to figure out why taylor posted a random twitter meme. I have a lot of faith to believe this could all happen in an hour but I would try. SO hard.

2. whats your most trivial / dumbest hot take?I don’t think we should still be discovering animals. like what do you mean in the year of our lord 2023 we are STILL finding animals?? no they should all be discovered and if they havent been then i think they should stay undiscovered.

3. if you had to teach a college course what would it be in? I feel like we’re all expecting me to say something Taylor related but honestly I could teach a masterclass on the psychology of Ryan Murphy. I hate that man and i have so much to say about him and his productions

4. season 12 of shameless is suddenly happen and youve been put in charge! what plot point(s) are you gonna make happen? I cant think of anything substantial to actually contribute but i want Carl Gallagher to have a fruity little vape. I also want to see him quit the force and flourish in a new job!

5. who would be your godly parent? (can be any mythology). I’m gonna go with greeks as a Percy Jackson stan. I asked my bsf who is an expert in greek mythology. - Damon x Elena : ohhh boy... i dont remember exactly when... it was definitely during the first season though, because when Damon kissed Katherine pretending to be Elena on Elena’s porch i fucking LOST my mind.

IMPOSSIBLE. they are the divine pairing, you watch your mouth. I’d be sad, even though they technically were never ‘together’ in the first place.

Because Death can be undone. But love cannot.

BOTH!!! Their love is SO serious, its all about growth and self acceptance and loving each other for all parts of themselves, but they also say things like “scared is the best way to be horny” so take that as you will lol

Ohhh probably... Marcus x Saya or Matt x Elektra. theres something SO fiery about both of these ships.

I’d say probably tandy x tyrone (they are literally cosmically linked) or cassie x cole (... like... come ON), if we’re talking about like... whether they were destined for each other. But if were tlaking about like, hard earned love and acceptance? Memori and Becho for sure.

9) How many times have you read/watched 10’s fandom?

I’ve rewatched s1 at least 3 times, and s2 just started and im SO invested!!!

10) Which ship has lasted the longest?

Technically chidi x eleanor? because how long even IS a Bearimy? but if we’re talking seasons of a show, i guess... Damon x Elena?

11) How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?

like... so many times. TVD is notorious for that nonsense.

12) if the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?

Well Murphy and Emori have grown up and lived through TWO apocalypses and are like, hardened badass scavenger survivor types, but Matt and Elektra are superheroes... so it might be close but i bet Memori would win out.

13) is 4 still together?

They never were ‘together’ technically, and the show ended with them not together, but in my heart they are.

14) is 10 canon?

YES, well.. kind of? i think so? like this season it was discussed as being a central romance but also they are going THROUGH it rn.

15) if all ten ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?

Okay so, memori would def be the best at base line survival, like scavenging, hunting, etc. And they would NOT fall short on the ability to kill to survive. Becho are a Battle Couple, and i think Echo’s spy skills would come in SUPER hand. Matt x Elektra and legit trained superhero types, so that gives them a significant edge. Maria is probably not gonna do great but Michael is a telekentic alien so he has a power that would be helpful for sure. Marcus x Saya are trained assassins, so that helps them out... tandy x tyrone have great super powers too... Kady x Julia are Magicians, and Kady is a BOSS at battle magic, and Julia was literally a god for a while. Damon and Elena are (were?) vampires, so thats helpful too... Okay lemme work this out...

chidi and eleanor would probably die first, I love them, but they just aren’t equipped.

Michael and Maria next, because Maria woudln’t be much help and Michaels power is cool but not like... super helpful?

Cassie x Cole would die next. Badasses for sure, but they dont have super powers or assassin training to help them.

Tandy x Tyrone next, they ahve badass powers but they’re just kids... idk if they’d be a match for trained assassins and shit like that

Bellamy and echo would be next. both of them are battle hardened and badass, and i think Echo on her own would last way longer than them together, but in the end they’d fall out.

murphy and emori would be next. super great survivors, but not trained at killing, so that edge they had doesn’t help much towards the end.

marcus and saya would be next. absolutely badasses, and they’d last a long time, but they are kids and they would eventually slip up due to immaturity and lack of real experience.

Damon and Elena next. Being vampires would help them a LOT, obviously, but Elena is pretty inexperienced and doesn’t have a lot of training, and Damon is prone to emotional outbursts that get him in trouble. I think elena would end up in danger and Damon would get them both offed trying to save her. I could be wrong though, if any team would be the surprise victors i’d bet on them.

Julia and kady would go next. Definitely badasses, but not trained killers. They’d be more prepared than the kids, and they have a lot of experience in dangerous situations, but trained assassins who are fully grown and have a lot of experience is hard to beat.

matt and elektra would be the victors. They may not have ‘powers’ but they’re aboslutely BADASS, and have the most real experience. They are also the least likely to fall prey to an emotional response to a situation, giving them a huge edge.

16) Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?

Other than the writers? no.

17)Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?

Becho, mostly because i HAVE to because the fandom is... hell. Also Maria x Michael, for the same reason.

Not really, only because i know it’s gonna be dead. I do check regularly for my Echo blog though! @echo--positivity

19) if an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all up forever, which ship would you sink?

Michael and Maria. I love them, but I know they’re not the endgame ship the story has planned, so if they’re gonna break up anyway, might as well. Another option would be Kady x Julia, because they were never canon to begin with.

hrm, season three? i feel like that’s where chidi and eleanor’s relationship really made an impact on me. it was also just a great season to see how they navigated their Second Chance...idk i love tgp bruv

honestly? i’m going with the good place. there’s just more personal and immediate relevance in the story they tell and the individual stories and growth of the characters.

Wow. Don’t be sorry! Im so excited! Alright, let’s get started here!

1. Name a ship that feels like home.

I’d say Captain Canary for that one. When Legends first started Captain Canary brought me back to my childhood in the sense that kid’s shows, the intentions for ships is pretty obvious from the get-go. You know in episode 1 Kim is going to end up with Ron by the end of the series, Katara with Aang, Danny with Sam, ect. Adult shows have more drama and complications, so you need to spend a few episodes feeling the characters out and deciding who you ship. But with Captain Canary, as soon as Sara asked if he wanted to dance, it felt like they belonged together. There was no question. It was simple, and I still love it.

2. Name a ship that you love but have conflicted feelings over.

I guess... Mixen? I LOVE Mixen, I tend to make that very obvious. But Mick is what? 47 or so? Amaya is 26 or 27? Idk, I LOVE them but sometimes I remember there’s roughly 20 years age difference between them and it weirds me out a little (Yes, I know there is 15 years between Sara and Leonard, and sometimes I’m a little weirded out by that too, but something about them having been minors at the same time at one point makes it a littler easier to get past for me)

5. Name a ship that is different from all other ships.

I’m gonna say Jax/Sin. I generally don’t ship characters who have never met even once in canon, especially not when there is probably no hope of them ever meeting, but someone put this ship in my head and I just find it so adorable!

6. Name a ship that most represents your type of ship.

Again, Captain Canary. Ships where they are 100% equals and respect each other as such are my absolute favorite.

10. Name a ship that is funny.

Ok, not my usual fandom, but Garret/Dina from Superstore. They crack me up, probably because Dina is such an extreme personality and Garret is so indifferent to most things, but when he gets worked up he GETS WORKED UP. They went from enemies, to lovers, to enemies, to friends, to one-time-lovers, to enemies, to friends, and they are still going, currently back in the direction of enemies.

11. Name a ship that is sweet.

Darhkatom. They’re just so cute. Ray is the human embodiment of sunshine, and despite all Nora’s baggage she was able to seamlessly fall into a relationship with him, it was so refreshing to not have an “I’m too damaged for love” arc.

12. Name a ship that is tragic.

CAPTAIN CANARY. They have SO much potential but Len went and died in season 1, and we never even got to see Sara grieving him (really) so we didn’t even get closure! They deserved SO much better!

13. Name a ship that is slow burn.

Killervibe. They’ve been such a good slow burn that I didn’t ship them for awhile, but they’re relationship has built so naturally that now I would love to see it explored.

16. Name a ship in which you love all characters equally.

Captain Canary. Mixen. Killervibe. Most of my ships, actually. I have a hard time shipping characters if I dislike one of them.

Ooh. Ok, so I haven’t read an actual book in years probably, I read mostly fan fiction. That being said, I read The Clay Marble a couple times in school, and I loved Sarun/Nea. The book is about these two 12-year-old girls living in a refugee camp, and their older siblings are just falling in love in the background and it is SO cute!

22. Name your favorite ship from a movie.

Morticia and Gomez Addams. They are their own level of perfection.

I’m gonna say Elenor/Chidi from The Good Place. I feel like I’ve answered Captain Canary more than enough times, but them too. (Sidenote, Elenor/Chidi are KILLING me this season!)

Going back to the old days here. When Danny and Sam kissed at the end of Danny Phantom. I somehow missed the series finale of Danny Phantom. Not missed like, didn’t see it premier. Missed like, I didn’t know it happened. I legit thought Danny Phantom just faded out like so many other cartoons, and despite all the time I spent online/in front of a TV growing up, I didn’t find out it had a real finale for YEARS. I was mad about it until I was maybe 15, and I discovered a shot from the finale online. So their getting together is my favorite moment, because it was SO built up for me.

27. Name the biggest change you would make to Captain Canary.

LEONARD WOULD’VE FREAKING LIVED!

In all seriousness, Leonard would’ve lived, they would’ve started casually having sex which would’ve soon shifted into dating, he would’ve become Sara’s second-in-command when she became Captain, and everything she had to learn alone over the course of the series they would’ve handled together.

27. Name the biggest change you would make to Mixen.

The out of nowhere romance with Nate never would’ve happened and Amaya would’ve continued being close with Mick.

Balance is over, but I have been into taz for a little over a year. I actually finished balance at the very beginning of august last year. Is taz-iversary a thing?

I’ve gotten through all of the episodes for both! But I’ve listened to parts of balance more than I’ve re-watched good omens.

Is ANYONE having a good time for longer than a minute on that show? I guess the priest seems the least miserable overall. I’ll be him.

Hahahaha imagine.....aziraphale and crowley work together to get the priest and fleabag together and come to find that they have similar hang ups in their own relationship.....hold on, i have to go outline a fic. Unrelated.

I’ve never really been one to pair up non-canon characters so this is hard haha. It’s also hard to imagine that there are any 2 people who haven’t been paired up together by the fandom at some point. Hmmm...I guess I liked Lucretia and Merle a bit before I found out how old Lucretia actually was. I guess I’ll stick with that because i truly can’t think of anything else haha.

They’re both good! But I’ll go with schitt’s creek.

The theme music isn’t very noteworthy in either one, I don’t think. But season 2 of fleabag does have a pretty good soundtrack in general in places! *intense church choir noises*

not to be That Person but since i did my honours and am currently working as a research assistant in the area of neuroscience i have some Beef with the good place re: this study. 

so their study design seems to be

give them ethical problems and scan them 

remind them of their near death experience and scan again

???

how on earth are they going to see how near death experiences affect brain function when a) they can’t get a comparative baseline from before the near death experience and b) the heterogeneity and small sample size would make it near impossible to try and draw conclusions with the baseline, let alone without one

yes, they’re trying to incite a reaction to their near death experience using prompts but ehhhh

also just the sample size is in general is really damn small and is more a case study than an experiment

im surprised they didn’t get more people join the study, especially since they seem to just be using self report to see if someone qualifies like anyone could just make up that they had a near death experience to join

also are they going to give them the same problems?? because that will just have carryover effects since they’ll remember their answers from the first time. like i guess they could give them similar questions but still.

also why is it going to take months?? what could they possibly do to warrant such an intensive study?? 

it looks like chidi is giving them philosophy lessons which idk how this ties into the study like is he trying to see how they respond to learning about ethics and their consequent ethical decision making is affected because they had a near death experience???

if so then shouldnt he have a control group who is also receiving these lessons to compare against the brain-y bunch to see if there’s a difference?

edit: simone did say they wanted to repeat the experiment with new subjects so i guess that could be incorporated i guess,, although generally when you’re doing between subjects designs you need to test the participants at the same time and also it saves money and time

also chidi, a participant himself, is giving these lectures which is just all sorts of messed up in terms of study design

one thing i’ll compliment them on is that they did bring up the subject of conflict of interest re: chidi being friends with the subjects

this could definitely affect the results as the subjects could be more inclined to behave in a way that they think will be more acceptable to the experimenter (participant expectancy effects) 

while this can happen in any experiment, knowing the experimenter personally will further increase the likelihood of this happening compared to if you just meet them for the experiment and then never see them again, therefore lacking most of the social obligations that come with friendship

also chidi himself is a participant, which will definitely influence the results as it’s his thesis and he knows (perhaps) the type of results he’d like to see which is just further expectancy effects

seriously,,, this study is A Mess

there’s probably (definitely) more about this study that i could rag on about but i also have some beef with how they handled the MRI stuff as well (i’m currently in the middle of pilot testing for a study involving fMRI so have recently gone through safety inductions etc which the writers obviously Did Not):

u can’t just spontaneously chuck someone into an MRI. my supervisor has spent the past 6+ months trying to get grant application, ethics and site approval just so we can start pilot testing in an fMRI, let alone actual testing on participants and even then we’re very restricted and have to book ahead of time because we have to share it with the nearby hospital

while operating any MRI you have to have at least 2 radiographers present and at least 3 people trained in basic life support. one researcher (simone) and a bystander (eleanor) ain’t gonna cut it. MRIs can be incredibly dangerous and can easily injure or even kill people if not handled properly. maybe there’s some radiographers in an adjacent room tho who knows

along that note, you have to be ready to enter the room at a moment’s notice if there’s an emergency, and that means not having any loose metal on you that could become a projectile inside the magnetic field. if something went wrong and simone had to go in and get chidi out, either she’d waste time taking her necklaces off or risk them becoming projectiles

also, when simone is explaining the MRI to everyone, she, eleanor and tahani are wearing metallic jewellery. even when the MRI isn’t active, there’s still a strong magnetic field present and you have to take off anything loose and metallic

that saying tho at least they had chidi in medical scrubs when he was being scanned and the setup seemed relatively accurate, even the program used to look at the scans looks pretty similar to the one used at the facility i’m working in now

ANYWAY this is very long and rambly and im currently chock full of flu meds and also i should go to bed and try and get better so i can go back to work and help out in Real Actual Scientific Research, including fMRI.
