Multidimensional travel am I right?
So uh somehow my oc became a dimension traveler XD TO NOT MUCH FAULT OF MY OWN IT JUST SNOWBALLED INTO THIS— the gist is that after the “How The Turn Have Tables” crossover fic I’m currently working on (the fic takes place around the end of season 1) Sylvia gets a side effect to where she just randomly appears in a random dimension XD so yeah that’s fun—
Also the background is basically an edited collage (by me) of all of me and my friendos art from The Employees AU. The main blog is @theemployees and I shall tag all of them so plz give them some love <3

I finished A cosmology of monsters and I absolutely devoured the whole book.
It's kinda ironic how the beginning really scared me in a way no other book has ever done, when it took in fact a complete different direction to what I thought.
What scared me was that I thought we were gonna see characters slowly becoming mad and paranoid and maybe violent and we'll have trouble separating what's real and what is not.
But in the end it's not a story about monsters. The monsters are real. But the scariest monsters are the ones the characters are facing in their real lives.
It's a story about a family falling apart because of secrets, grief, depression and precarity. These are the real monsters. And in a way it's way scarier that what's scared me in the first place, because nobody can't escape real life problems (I try but hey they're still here). So my fear was replaced by sadness and the heavy weight lies and unsaid things let on a family.
I have to admit I am always found of stories about dysfunctional families and their intergenerational trauma and how intricate and hard it is to find a way out of all this. I do enjoyed that the story does not let the reader with this in the end with no sense of hope. But I guess the moral of the story, or the moral I choose to believe in is to share your emotions with your loved ones. If only I knew how to that IRL, but that's not the topic here.
Some moment were really gut-wrenching, I particularly appreciated how depression was being written.

god i know that complaining abt fic which most of you haven't read, and which i won't, for politeness' sake, identify in this post, is a great way to come across as both dickish and boring—
but i've been rereading a very long, very satisfyingly plotty series that's a fandom darling and the thing is, when you read like 400k of an author's work at once it really starts to become painfully apparent what their priorities are, by which i mean two things:
holy shit they're obsessed with 'what if strong powerful men who could hurt you didn't (but did hurt Bad Guys) (and it was sexy of them),' which leads into
holy shit they do not appear to have thought through the implications of saying 'i will have my heroes take over the same power structures that have enabled abuse, make no real changes to those structures other than swapping out the leadership, and then claim that everything is wonderful now bc Good Men Are In Charge'??
like. i don't necessarily need every passing fantasy to present me with a coherent, revolutionary system of politics and ethics—sometimes things are just fun and sexy and not especially Examined and that's fine!—but by the time someone's written literally almost half a million words, and done a lot of worldbuilding while they were at it, i am going to start squinting if they seem to think a Good Man can e.g. become an emperor by killing off the leadership of multiple countries and installing puppet kings loyal to him and still remain a Good Man, even if the justification was that the original leadership was maltreating its citizens and deserved to be extrajudicially executed. like. this shit was a bad, autocratic move when the US did it in real life and it's still bad now that you're having our mutual blorbo do it in fiction!
and that's not even getting into the whole thing where like. they've got servants who the Good Man and his friends ""treat well"" but who very much remain second-class citizens in terms of how the story actually frames them and their concerns. [this was also a huge issue i had with foz m*adows' most recent book—everyone wants to write about fantasy nobles but they also want to make them good people and it's like. honestly i think it might be better to get comfortable writing about flawed people, but also—if your aristos aren't treating their servants like equals and your text isn't either, you haven't actually cracked the Moral Aristo paradox, sorry!] like, there's nothing that says your story has to depict a fully Healed World, nor should there be! but it's troubling if you seem to be convinced you've written one (and have your wide-eyed love interests constantly marveling at it!) when you very patently haven't.

I DUNNO i just! it kinda rubs me the wrong way when ppl on the internet point out spelling/grammar mistakes as like a sick burn or whatever not only cause of stuff like ppl with language disabilities but also like. idk it seems sort of fucked up that not knowing perfect english is equated to being stupid, as if most people dont have a different native language. like idk a native english speaker being like “LMAO you dont even know perfect english??? what are you, an IDIOT??? an IDIOT who knows multiple languages and clearly constructed their sentence well enough for me to understand what they meant therefore making pointing it out useless for any and all reasons except me feeling superior in that im better at my native language than you are your second? LOL go back to MIDDLE school, person who speaks more languages than me” like do you see what i mean. people act as if english is the Ultimate Language (gee wonder why /s) and all other languages are like, second rate or some shit and anyone who doesnt speak it perfectly is an idiot. obviously it all goes back to colonialism and shit but the fact that people (including myself for a really long time) fail to even realize that worries me a bit. this post got longer than i intended but like whatever i think making fun of people with improper grammar or w/e holds very blatant ties to ableism and racism and we should stop doing it. lol
