That's Alright for Such a Night
(Rewrite Chapter 2)
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.666
Writers Note: A rewrite to the original, I realized I had wanted to expand on the story again
Warning: mostly fluff / Historic Language and Values
Pairing: POC OC x Elvis
Plot: During the Louisiana Hayride two breakout stars meet in a rush only to learn they've dealt their cards in the hands of fate.
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8
 Lousiana, 1954
"Say you wanna join my bandmates and me. We're going to a diner just up the street,"
"I... Don't know-"
"CECELIA!" her mother shouted,
"On second thought, I change my mind."
"So you'll come with us," Elvis asked, a grin on his face as Cecelia nodded. Cecelia, Elvis, and The Blue Moon boys had made their escape. They were walking down the brisk streets of Louisiana. Cecelia shivered a bit, forgetting her cardigan sweater in her mother's car. Elvis had taken off his pink suit jacket and wrapped it over her shoulders,
"You didn't have to do that,"
"Eh, wouldn't want you gettin sick here." he winked at her as Cecelia playfully rolled her eyes at him.
"Well, thank you kindly, Mr. Presley. But I can take care of myself..."
"Anytime, Ms. Valmos. And I wasn't sayin you can't." He responded back to her, the two walking closer toward one another.
"CECELIA!!! CECELIA!!! IS THAT YOU!!!" Everyone, including Cecelia, had turned around when they heard the yelling from behind getting closer to them,
"Sounds like you got fans."Scotty smiled,
"Rosa Calhoun!!!!" Cecelia ran towards her. Rosa had been best friends since Cecelia and her mother moved to Georgia when she was sixteen. The one smiling face she could always find in a crowd.
"What're you doing in Louisiana," Cecelia questioned,
"Well, I was in town shooting a movie, heard you were performing, and- Are you okay?" Rosa whispered, taking notice of the guys around her, "They ain't following you, are they..."
"I'm fine, Rosa. Actually, this is my friend, Elvis Presley, and his group, the Bluemoon Boys." Cecelia smiled, introducing her to them all.
"Cece... the curl is drivin' me insane..." Rosa blushed, staring at Elvis' cowlick. Elvis winked as Rosa pretended to swoon, or at least Cecelia hoped she was.
"Mind your P's and Q's, will ya." Cecelia nudged her shoulder.
"Say you should join us..." Scotty winked as Rosa clutched her chest. After all, she did have a thing for men who were a bit older than she was.
 "Where you fella's going?"
"To the first Lunch Car, we see..." Bill Black responded.
"But it's dinner time, isn't it," Rosa questioned,
"That's just its name, Rosa." Cecelia winked,
Arriving at the diner, they had taken their seats in a booth. Cecelia sat next to Elvis, and Rosa sat between Scotty and Bill while Sam pulled a chair to the table.
"This may be the first integrated place I've been in," Cecelia mumbled as Elvis nodded,
"I'd have to agree on that. Well, no, there's this one place in Beale Street an-"
"California is pretty spiffy on it," Rosa shrugged, "But uh, what're we orderin'?" she asked as Cecelia laughed along with her.
"A celebration feast!" Scotty and the boys shouted,
"Why not! On me, my treat." Elvis smiled,
"Are you sure? " Cecelia asked as Elvis looked into her brown doe eyes. She really was being sincere, "You don't have to spend your 18 bucks, I-"
"Cecelia..." his blue eyes looking deep into her soul, "Allow me to treat the soon legendary rock n roller to a meal." Cecelia nodded as he put his arm around her.
"Alright, but don't spend it all in one place, Pres." she ruffled up his hair as he brushed it back.
"Alright, so everyone knows what they're orderin?" the waitress asked,
"6 of everything," Elvis winked as Rosa and Cecelia laughed. Sometimes, he swore he was so charming.
"Alright, make it 6 of everythang..." the waitress said,
The food had come, and they had all eaten everything. Rosa and Scotty had taken it upon themselves to share a Milkshake. Bill and Sam were by the phone, and then Elvis and Cecelia were by the Jukebox. He was mesmerized by her, and she felt the same way as him.
Earth angel, Earth angel, will you be mine?
"You wanna dance?" He asked,
"I'd like that..." Elvis led her to the dance floor. His hand was on her lower back, as hers was on his shoulder.
Earth angel, Earth angel, the one I adore
Love you forever. And evermore.
I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you.
The two swayed to the lyrics as she looked up at him. He was tall and handsome, but she wasn't his, and he couldn't be hers, and it pained her heart already that she knew this.
"Practicing for a dance, huh?" Cecelia said, her head on his chest,
"Oh, uh yeah ... yeah." he had damn near forgotten about being Dixie's prom date,
"And you, you must get a slew of guys just uh waitin to ask you out to any dance, really."
"Actually, I don't,"
"Why's that..." The two kept dancing,
"Picky with love, I guess," she glanced at his lips. Those beautiful pillowy pouty lips that she just wanted to place hers on top to feel and taste what it would be like to know what pure bliss would feel like.
"You deserve to be picky,"
"Whys that Pres."
"Well, Valmos, You're pretty, an you got talent. I'm sure you got a great brain in that head of yours and..." he was lost in her eyes again. And the light reflecting on her tawny brown skin, enamored by her very features that he wanted to kiss so much, not to mention her body in her wiggler dress, but damn, he had a girl back home who he promised to be true to.
"And what else..."
"Nothin', I forgot."
Oh, oh, oh, Earth angel, Earth angel, please be mine.
My darling dear, love you for all time.
I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you.
"There you are!" Midge and Cheryl burst through the door. She was still in his arms as Midge groaned, "Denise is going to murder me..."
"Midge... Cheryl. Hi, have you met Elvis..." she introduced him as he waved, not dropping her from the dip he had her in
"Your mothers looking for you, and she's pleased and pissed at you,"
"Oh great..." Cecelia sighed as Elvis brought her back up from the dance floor.
"Does this mean I..." Midge and Cheryl nodded as she sighed, but she was having so much fun. For once, Cecelia felt,
"Time to go and say goodbye to uh.."
"Elvis, Ms. Guess, I'll See you around, Cecelia."
"If I'm not dead, Pres." she winked. Elvis walked back to the booth, a bit broken-hearted. What if he never saw her again?
Midge took her back to her mother's car as if it were a walk of shame, "Your mother will have your entire ass for fraternizing with a group of White boys, you know." Cecelia only rolled her eyes as she kept walking,
"Don't see how, when she literally sings with Sinatra..."
"He's Italian."
"Well... I had a swingin good time, okay." Cecelia sighed. She could feel the glare coming from her mother through her Mercedes car window.
"Where were you..." Denise asked as Cecelia mumbled something under her breath.
"I went to go eat with some friends I made..."
" Cecelia, something could've happened to you."
"Rosa was there!"
"Hiya, Mrs. D," she giggled as she made a phone motion towards Scotty.
"Once again, something could have happened to you both..." she sighed, "Do you not know what they're doing in the deep south to girls like you." Denise groaned,
"Hey, Rosa..." Denise glared at her daughter again, "I thought I told you to stay away from her... She's fast..."
"Sorry, Mam-" Denise glanced at Cecelia, "Mother... It won't happen again."
"It's better not. Now, you two get in. I have news."
Rosa sat in the back as Cecelia sat in the passenger seat.
"Lousiana Hayride wants you to perform every Saturday Night starting next year." Cecelia smiled,
"But they were going to pay you less, so...I pulled a few strings..."
"Like what..." Rosa said,
"Well, remember how I said we're moving to Nashville,"
"Yeah, you did..." Cecelia looked confused.
"Well, if cut you a country blues hit or a rock one before the Hayride and its sales, you'll get the same pay."
"Well, how soon can you operate that studio of ours?"
"Now you're making sense.
Nashville Tennessee, 1955
"That's all of it." Denise sighed, "Here we are back in the country..." she groaned as Cecelia grinned, sitting on a tree branch in their spacious yard. Denise could take the girl out of the country, but never the country out of the girl. Cecelia and Denise had now moved into Valmos Manor, owned by Cecelia's great-grandmother Calpernia.
"Hey, Cece!"
"Rosa!"
"Oh, Jesus..." Denise laughed,
"Seems we're neighbors!"
"Seems so!"
"You going to the concert tonight!" Rosa nearly shouted as Cecelia looked at her mother. While she was now hanging upside down from the same branch.
"You have a record to cut..."
"For research..." Cecelia cheesed as her mother shook her head.
"Oh, alright, but I'm coming with you girls."
Cecelia silently groaned. She wanted one show to herself and a friend at least once.
"Who's the headliner?" Cecelia asked. Rosa then shouted back from her fence.
"I don't know, it's like a bunch, but Scotty is gonna be there and Elvis Presley is goin-"
"Elvis..." Cecelia gasped, "I'll get dressed right now!" Cecelia ran past Midge like she was Jay Garrick
"Where's she going..." Midge asked, "Is she testing her lipstick again?"
"Again?!" Denise questioned what she meant by again.
Dresses, slacks, blouses, and jeans were all scattered around in her room as she tried to pick the perfect outfit. Cecelia hadn't seen her friend Elvis in a year since 1954, which was like an eternity.
Sure, they wrote to each other, but now he was near where she lived! And she could see him tonight if she could find something to wear. Picking out a vibrant pink pencil skirt dress and her pink scarf around her neck to match, she finally felt ready. That was once she'd put on her iconic red lipstick and her hair in a poodle updo.
But before she left, she had one more thing to do. She kissed her Elvis poster and her Dean Martin Poster next to it. Running down the stairs, Cecelia saw her mother, who gave her a smile as she glanced at Rosa.
"I can see all of your imagination in that dress ..." Denise shook her head at Rosa,
"Perfect!" she giggled. Rosa walked in with her black and white Polka dot dress, waiting for Denise to go upstairs to show Cecelia it had shorts underneath,
"It's cute, why the shorts?"
"In case Scotty wants to pick up where we left off,"
"Wouldn't you do a dress then... Woah, wait, are you and Scotty boiling the cabbage."
"Yeah,"
"Lucky..."
"You could boil yours too, kid. If you put down the comic books once in a while and saw the babes in front of you."
"I'm savin myself for someone special." Cecelia smiled. She was proud of that. And she meant what she said.
"Like who Elvis Aaron Presley~" Rosa teased, "You wanna pull his cowlick? Don'tcha? Play a little house..."
"I wanna do more than just that, I wanna-"
"Want to what..." Denise glanced,
"Uh, go to the concert." Cecelia smiled, clearing her throat as Denise pulled the top of her dress up,
"That's what I thought."
Overton Park Shell Memphis Tennessee
"Oh, he looks furious..." Rosa mumbled, watching Elvis Perform.
"The guitar isn't his, and it's missing two strings... " she sighed. She knew how that felt. She lost her Falcon once during a performance. And it threw her off.
Elvis had tried his hardest to focus on the slightly crappy night he was having until his eyes saw, "Cecelia," he mouthed as she waved. Scotty shook his head playfully as Rosa waved,
"People can see you two..." she hit her playfully as Rosa laughed.
"That's the point."
"Your mother can see you too..."
"Shit..." Cecelia groaned.
"I'd uh, I-I like to invite a friend up, if that's okay..." Elvis said as Cecelia playfully frowned, "Don't know if I can find her, she's, uh, in pink and... Oh, found her!"
Helping her up on the stage, Cecelia took his hand. Silence filled the crowd, a few cheers, mostly deathly glares, but Cecelia was used to it. After all, she'd been this color her entire life. Might as well be comfortable in it, she figured. Denise and Midge were worried, and so was Rosa,
"Don't worry about them..."
"Pres..."
"Do you trust me," Elvis whispered,
"I don't know if I should," Cecelia whispered back
"Good enough for me, doll."
"I don't have a guitar." Cecelia began to look around,
"Use mine." another man said, giving him her guitar.
"Thanks?"
"Ready when you are." Elvis smiled,
"Lovesick blues boys." she said as the song started, "I'm gonna sing you, lovely folks, a song about heartache, it's got pain and misery written all in it. So pitch an ear an listen," she said as the band played.
"By the way, I'm Cecelia Valmos." she saluted as Scotty, Billy, and Elvis followed her lead.
I got a feeling called the blues, oh Lord
Since my baby said goodbye
Lord, I don't know what I'll do
All I do is sit and sigh, "Oh Lord."
Cecelia grinned as she danced a little, Elvis following her steps. The crowd was wild. As Cecelia looked back at Elvis, she had asked him to join her in the last part of the song. It was the start of something legendary, and Denise, although regretting it, could certainly taste it.
"Lord, I love to hear her when she calls me sweet daddy."  Elvis turned to her as Cecelia nearly laughed at his attempt to yodel.
"Such a beautiful dream. " Elvis leaned into the microphone as Cecelia watched him sing to her, beckoning her to come closer to him, which she did.
"I hate to think it's all over; I've lost my heart, it seems." Cecelia leaned into the microphone, the two playing their guitars. Rosa and Midge were impressed, but the papers wouldn't be.
"And I'm lonesome. I got the lovesick blues".
When the song was over, they went backstage, laughing and giggling, picking up where they both left off.
"Elvis, that was brilliant!" Cecelia chuckled as she held onto his shoulder.
"Didn't take you for a Hank Williams girl."
"My daddy was a Blues and Folk singer, so... it runs through me like a bad meal." she joked as he laughed. Denise was in the corner with Hank Snow, talking business. At least it was what Cecelia supposed was going on,
"Oh, uh, sir, your guitar." Cecelia tapped him on the shoulder,
"Call me Johnny Cash." he winked at her,
"You can call me any time..." Rosa mumbled as Scotty looked at Rosa, who was making a call me gesture to him.
"Don't mind her. You were amazing out there." Cecelia smiled,
"Me, no, you and him, that was amazing. I would've thought you made it up the way you came up there. You two fooled us." Johnny then walked off.
"You gonna tell him,"
"Nah," Cecelia laughed, "So you're touring in Memphis?"
"I Could ask you the same thing," Elvis smirked,
"I live in Nashville now." Cecelia smiled,
"You moved here!" he grinned as she smiled at him,
"Yeah, we settled in today!"
"So we could go out?" he mumbled,
"I wouldn't mind. It gets lonely, and I'm usually just makin records under my mama's label. I haven't even any friends but Rosa..."
"Scotty darlin! I'm just messin with you!"
"Are you really."
"I wouldn't leave you for that glass of country singin water."
"Promise?"
As the two began to walk off, Hank and Denise both walked down towards the two,
"That don't look good..."
"Ms. Valmos, How'd you like to headline For Elvis Presley in Texas?" Hank asked.
"Sounds fine. Why do you ask?"Cecelia questioned,
"Cause you're going on tour,"

You were sure that Michael was debating on either asking if you’d been kidnapped or straight up running away from the almost manic like grin that was stretched across your lips.
But you knew that he understood your excitement and even shared in it; if only to a lesser degree.
“Why are you grinning like that? Who did you kill at work? Was it you coworker that tried to get you into trouble?” At the query, he laughed at the offended look you gave him in return. Feeling his arm slipping around you, giving a gentle squeeze, you couldn’t keep the look on your face.
“I didn’t kill anyone. They were lucky that they left before I could actually commit a murder though.” Your dark mutter made him smile as he pressed a kiss to your temple.
“There’s my homicidal maniac.” The words had caught you off guard and unable to help yourself, you snorted out a laugh, making him grin. You knew you could count on him to make light of the situation, but your excitement was not one to be deterred.
“It’s going to be our first Christmas together in our home Mikey.” Instead of understanding like you’d hoped, you were met with a look of confusion and you held back your sigh.
And then it clicked, his eyes widening as a grin bloomed across his lips.
“Our first Christmas home! We’re decorating, right?” And you couldn’t help yourself, laughing as you pressed a kiss to his lips and pulled him to the direction of the living room where various boxes were sat waiting to be rummaged through.
“We are. Since We both brought our own decorations when we moved in, I figured we could go through them together.” And Michael chuckled as he opened up one of the boxes, holding up the cheesy tree ornament that your parents had given back to you, one that you’d made when you were a child.
“Shut up.” You grinned at him as you found the box filled to the brim with various garlands. Tugging one out of the box, you draped it across his shoulders and he scoffed, pulling it off only to throw it over you, gently tugging you closer to him with each end.
“Trapped.” He teased, a playful grin on his lips as you kissed his cheek before ducking from under the garland, ignoring his noise of protest.
“Decorations first, distractions later.” The dramatic sigh you received in return made you press your lips together in amusement before you put on the Christmas playlist, a mixture of old classics with various artists that you both liked that had done Christmas songs.
You’d not felt excited for Christmas until you’d realised this little bit of information. You’d been dreading the holidays before it had occurred to you that-despite it being far from your first christmas together-it was your first christmas together in your new home.
Both families had understood that you wanted to spend the holidays together in your new home and had decided to travel to the two of you instead of the two of you visiting various countries. Michael had most been excited about this.
When Moose came to investigate the noises of the boxes being opened and the bags being rustled, Southy far too used to the sounds to follow after the other dog.
You’d almost danced in glee when you’d found the small reindeer outfit that you’d originally purchased for Southy years ago. The look that Michael gave you, made you stick your tongue out at him.
“Moose baby, come here.” You coaxed her and she was hesitant, occasionally sniffing at the various decorations that had fallen onto the floor. You noticed that Michael had his phone out as Moose reached you and you fussed her in turn.
She gave you kisses in return and you’d successfully gotten the outfit tacked around her. Surprisingly, she didn’t protest the outfit, instead turning to Michael who had laughed and made her way over to him, her tail going a mile a minute.
“You poor thing. You’ve got weeks of this Moose.” He murmured as he ruffled her fur. You grinned as he got the outfit off her.
“Leave the dogs out of it for now.” He teased finally as he took out the lump of christmas lights and you laughed.
“Get those untangled and I might.” You knew that he would, he had more patience than you did when it came to Christmas lights.
Now and then, the two of you would sing along, occasionally throwing pieces of garland at Michael whenever he swapped lyrics out for a ruder version. Every time he did, you tried to keep up the offended looks, but even you couldn’t help but laugh at him, chiming in with your own versions which earned more decorations being thrown in return.
With the boxes organised, you both finally began decorating, taking the garland and wrapping it around the banister of the stairs.
“Can you believe that we got this far?” You asked him as you ventured back into the living room, decorations in hand as you worked together to get them hung over the picture frames.
“Honestly, every bad Christmas we had to suffer, this makes up for all of them.” He murmured once you back to the boxes.
You started to put up the tree when Michael disappeared. You weren’t entirely sure what he was up to, knowing that he did have the wreath for the door, but the mischievous smirk he’d given you as he disappeared out of the room told you there was definitely more that he was up to.
Once the tree was up, the branches spread easily for the decorations to hang from, Michael  reappeared with a steaming mug and you hesitated before taking a sip, the mulled wine bringing you warmth you hadn’t realised you were missing.
“I figured that we could have a mug or two before we decorate the tree.” His voice had fallen quiet and you found yourself melting slightly, pressing a kiss to his lips, tasting the mulled wine on his own lips.
“Sounds like a plan, handsome. Plus we can sort out the tree decorations.” You hummed and his face lit up as he placed his mug down, racing up the stairs to your confusion and amusement.
It didn’t take long for him to return, a small box in his hands as he settled back next to you. Almost immediately, you’d tucked yourself into his side, grinning at his chuckle as he handed you the box, taking the mug from your hands.
“I was waiting for this because, well just open it and see.” He encouraged, his face alight with excitement.
So of course you took your sweet time, earning a groan from him, however he didn’t rip the package open like you’d half expected him to. He sat patiently, watching your face.
So once the wrapping paper was discarded and you pried the lid off, you looked away from him to the item in question and felt your breath leave you.
Inside was an ornament, a small square with a key painted at the top, with yours and Michael’s names underneath, followed by the year, marking it your first Christmas together in this home.
You couldn’t find the words to convey the joy at this one small thing, along with the love that you felt for him. It felt like you chest was fit to burst with the love you felt surge up for him and you jumped as you felt his finger brush your cheek.
That was when you realised that he was brushing away a tear.
“Mikey.” Your voice cracked and he shifted the both of you, his arms pulling you into him. And you held onto him tightly as he pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
“I wanted something to mark this Christmas. It’s special to us, together as our little family.”
You were lost for words at the small but thoughtful gift.
“How about we start decorating then?” I’ve got a few ways to show my appreciation of your gift but I’d rather have everything already done.” The tease was enough, but he smiled and kissed you softly, his fingers cupping your face.
“I love you.” He whispered gently and you could’ve sworn you melted into his touch.
“I love you too. C’mon.” You coaxed, and he followed your lead. Decorating the tree was not nearly as stressful as you’d anticipated, both of you aiming for a tree that was both tasteful but you couldn’t help but laugh at the small gaming figurines that were scattered throughout the tree.
Once the star was on top, the newest decoration in clear view of the room, you leaned back into Michael as he stood behind you, surveying the room.
Turning in his arms, you beamed up at him and he grinned. His hand moved from around you, prompting you to look up to see he was holding mistletoe above the two of you.
You laughed and kissed him soundly, his hand discarding the mistletoe as he pulled you closer to him.
You were almost certain that this had become your favourite Christmas by far.

TWD 10x12: Walk With Us - Details
Okay, let’s talk details. There are a lot of them!
***As always, spoilers abound below for episode 10x12. Don’t read until you’ve watched! You’ve been warned.***
Ezekiel:
I want to go over his mini arc here a bit more because I think it’s important.
Tumblr media
We start with him looking for Judith as Hilltop is falling down around them. That’s a direct parallel to Beth looking for Judith and the kids when the prison fell.
Much like Glenn in S4 (and probably Beth in S5) there was a big disaster and he was left behind. As I said yesterday, I think the metal roofing might have been part of the Hole in the Roof theory, which equates to Beth being shot in the head. Now, understand, I’m not saying I think Zeke will get shot in the head. Just that there’s symbolism to equate these two sequences. With Glenn at the prison, the bridge blew up. So it’s really a matter of something happening at ground zero of the disaster that kept them there when everyone else left. So they got left behind, and the others in the group don’t realize they’re still alive and back where the disaster originally occurred. (Glenn at prison, Zeke at Hilltop, Beth in Atlanta.)
Then, once they realize he is alive, Zeke leads them to the children. While watching the episode, I kept having a head canon about Beth finding the kids and bringing them back. I’d already read spoilers and knew it wouldn’t play out like that, but with all the child/baby symbolism around Beth, it just would have been the perfect time. But there’s also symbolism here that, in my mind, makes Ezekiel a Beth proxy. So the child/baby symbolism is still present.
One more thing of note: last episode, they had a whole scene where Daryl and Ezekiel talked about one of them getting the kids out. But…neither of them actually did. Earl did. So why did they have that entire scene about Daryl and Zeke? Well, I talked in THIS ASK on Sunday about some of the symbolism in that scene, but I think there’s more to it than that. It foreshadows something we haven’t seen yet.
Magna and Connie:
Magna arrives with the walkers, much as the Whisperers might, except sans skin mask. She talks to Yumiko about how she and Connie survived the cave in, and moved back into the cave, looking for a way out. She says they took a sharp turn, which caught my ear.
Tumblr media
We’ve seen lots of arrows and sharp turns symbols before. I don’t even know if we’ve settled on what it means, but the obvious meaning is that their story or arc or path is heading in a new direction, and it’s usually not a good one. For example, we saw this at the school in S9 where Cyndie and the Oceansiders were killing the Saviors. And that led to the bridge and all the camaraderie between communities falling apart.
Magna also talks about how they made a sharp turn and ran into Alpha’s walker horde. They started walking with the dead, as the Whisperers do, but as the horde pushed forward, she lost Connie’s hand and they became separated. So once again, we have Connie being a missing girl, a type of death fake out, and it has to do with a walker horde.
Also, Magna does have an “I get it now” line during this scene.
Tumblr media
I have to mention this goofy little scene with Negan and this walker. I don’t know if they were going for humorous here, but I couldn’t stop laughing. It was like they were the only two at a club and pretending not to dance with one another, but secretly they were.
Carol and Eugene
I don’t have tons to say about Eugene right now except that I’m really side-eying this arc with him and Stephanie and the hospital. I’m feeling more and more like it will be the one that leads to Beth. I think there were callbacks here to him lying about the cure in S5, and some stuff with Carol that is foreshadowing future things. I won’t have time to get into them this week, and I need to re-watch episodes to check some stuff anyway, so just know that I’ll bring it up again eventually.
His scene with Carol was really sweet and I did notice that they focused on the walker at her feet that came up out of the ground. Only it’s arms and shoulders were really free, and at first, Carol just sort of swatted it away, rather than killing it.
Tumblr media
I wasn’t sure what to make of that, other than that her unwillingness to kill it shows her state of mind. Her guilt. But some of my fellow theorists and I have found some similar instances and are talking about them. I don’t have a concrete theory yet, as I need to do some more research, but it’s obviously something they wanted us to notice.
Carol does tell Eugene to go to Stephanie. And I felt like this is proof that she still loves Ezekiel and knows what she should be doing (making a life with him) as opposed to what she is doing (trying to get revenge on Alpha). She says that his choice is simple. If it’s important, he needs to go to her (Stephanie). Yeah, she really needs to take her own advice where Zeke is concerned. But this might also foreshadow his death fake out and the guilt she’ll have for ignoring him for so long once she thinks he’s dead. Time will tell.
Kelly/Alden/Gamma
Just the fact that they jumped into a car to escape walkers is important. We’ve always thought Beth was put into a car (specifically the trunk) to keep her safe from walkers. But we’ve seen this other places on the show as well, such as when Daryl and Aaron jumped in the van in 5x16 after they triggered the wolf trap. It’s a common theme, and the people who dive into the car for safety generally survive, so…
We also learn that Gamma’s sister was named Frances. That brought together a number of factors for me. Several people pointed out this painting at Hilltop from last week. We saw it multiple times behind both Lydia and Gamma. One of my group members found some info about it.
Tumblr media
So this woman was known both by the names Mary Sears and Mrs. Frances Shaw. Gamma is Mary and her sister is Frances. So this is a sister theme.
Kelly asked Gamma if her sister was “everything to you.” We’ve heard the “everything” theme many times before. The one that came first to my mind was when Rick said it to Daryl in 4x14. He said that Daryl being back with them was ‘everythang.’ So I think they use this to show what’s most important to the characters, and sometimes, as with Gamma, it can take them a while to realize what that is.
Meanwhile, Gamma leads the walkers away so the others, including her nephew, can survive. A lot like Daryl did so Beth could get out of the funeral home in 4x13. So, Alone parallel. Then they did this thing where Gamma managed to kill all the walkers and had a really sweet moment of triumph. They even did the soft music and the sun coming through the trees. It would have been really beautiful if Beta hadn’t shown up to stab her in the gut.
Tumblr media
After killing her, he puts her against the trunk of a tree and waits for her to reanimate. If you don’t know why that’s significant, read THIS by @frangipanilove. I also notice that in this scene, they show shots of walker bodies and the lake, and the shots kind of fade into one another to show the passage of time. I counted. Gamma reanimates on the third shot. Just saying.
When Daryl and his group get to the rendezvous point, and no one is there, I noticed that there were three buildings. A house, a barn, and a shed of some kind. Couldn’t help but be reminded of the moonshine shack.
Tumblr media
Of course there was a definite cabin theme going on here. There was that one, the one Earl and the kids hid in, the one Negan stashed Lydia in, and the one he took Alpha too. So yeah, I’d call that a motif.
There were diamonds on the window of the cabin Earl and the kids were in.
Tumblr media
Negan and Alpha
Most of the stuff I saw with these two weren’t exactly TD smoking guns, but still worth noting.
Basically Alpha wants Negan to take Lydia’s place as her protégé. He has a line where he says, “you want me out there preaching your gospel?” That caught my ear for many reasons. The gospel bit is obviously a Christian reference, but we’ve specifically heard it referenced around Beth. We’ve also discussed how Alpha is sort of the anti-Beth. And in a way, this labels her as an anti-Christ.
Tumblr media
Negan also talks about how his wife died, including mentioning cancer and chemo. I think that’s a hint at Ezekiel’s coming hospital arc and may also play into the water poisoning motifs we saw so strongly at the beginning of the season.
I think they were purposely juxtaposing Alpha’s parenting with that of Jerry and Daryl. We had the scene where they found the kids and hugged them and were so relieved to find them alive and well, and then it cuts to Alpha trying to convince Negan that killing Lydia is the right thing to do.
I noticed that Alpha said “thank you” to Negan. She was thanking him for finding Lydia for her. And that just reminded me of Nicholas saying thank you to Glenn right before he died. In both cases, the person saying thank you died almost directly after saying it. In both cases, they were weak characters in some way (mostly emotionally) who were really not going to survive much longer anyway.
Tumblr media
And finally, we have Negan rolling Alpha’s head at Carol’s feet. This makes it plain that Carol is the one who let him out of his cell, and obviously they had some kind of understanding. The thing is, Carol obviously didn’t have tons of confidence that Negan would hold up his end of the deal. If she had, she wouldn’t have been trying so hard to kill Alpha herself. My fellow theorists and I also discussed that maybe, when Negan first left Alexandria and met that woman and her son, he truly wasn’t planning to do what Carol asked. He would rather have gone off with them. But when they were killed, that spurred him to go kill Alpha so he could go back to Alexandria.
And we have no idea what Carol promised. Chances are, she won’t really be able to deliver. This is yet another example of her, much like she did in S4, making a command decision that affects many other people, without actually consulting anyone else. And that never turns out particularly well, no?
So the next episode will be about Michonne, but I’m interested to see where we end up going from here.
Tumblr media
And, on the Michonne topic, I want to address what we see in the trailer for next week. I’ve commented many times about the possibility of this Michonne/Virgil story line leading to Beth. But based on what we see in that trailer, I’m thinking not. I was envisioning her finding a civilization much like Alexandria: mostly thriving but with some problems. Another place they might become allies with. But from the trailer, it looks like Virgil is lying about everything, and things are going to go really badly for Michonne. In short, she’s in big trouble. There’s a part at the end of the promo where a door slams, and it really focuses on that.
So, I’m wondering if, rather than finding out about Rick and choosing to go get him, she’ll actually be taken captive against her will. That would explain what we talked about, about how it doesn’t make sense that Daryl wouldn’t want to go with her. Maybe she just disappears and doesn’t radio them because she really can’t. So, they don’t actually know what’s happening.
Tumblr media
And if Beth isn’t returning through the Michonne/Virgil story line…that leaves Eugene and Stephanie. And we already know they’re headed to the Grady hospital location, so…

L O N D Y N
After Loryns grand opening we waited for her to come back so we could go out and celebrate but this hoe never came home. So the girls and I went to bed while mama went back to work. Kaiden ended up sleeping over but left early to check on his brother.
---
All this week I had my head in the books studying for my exams. It was definitely crunch time. I had just got done taking my exams and I felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I had a good feeling about my results so I called the girls after I got in the car. I leaned the seat back and got comfortable while waiting.
“Waddup bitch?” I could tell that was Leilani stupid ass. Laughing at her I said, “what yall doing tonight?”
“Wait. Can we make this a group face time?” I huffed and pulled the phone away from my ear. I clicked the face time option and seconds later their faces popped up. “Yall hoes aint doin shit.” I mumbled looking at them.
“Girl I just left the shop. Im relaxing so shut up.” Loryn replied. “Speaking of the shop, where you disappear to last week?” Waiting for her reply, she looked away smiling hard, im talking dimples hard. “Must've been with Ace huh? I seen him sneaking in.” Leilani blurted out.
“Girl,” Loryn smacked her teeth, “he came in there talking bout he had a gift for me in the car. I know yall seen me leaving with him. Anyway, we get in the car and this nigga hands me a duffel full of stacks.” My jaw dropped. “This bitch didnt say a stack. Her ass said full of stacks!” Lolani beat me to it. “Girl get out of my head!” I teased.
“This the good part here, he also got me this Pandora bracelet,” she lifted her arm to show us, “and a Cuban link chain. Then gon’ come out his mouth and say, dont get fucked up out here. Remember who ya man is.” We all screamed and gassed it up. “Oh shiiiiit sus! My sista got a man, my sista got a man!” The girls and I sung. The only thing Loryn could muster up was, “I guess so.”
After we all calmed down I repeated my question from earlier. They replied with basically saying nothing. “I just got done taking my exams, and I dont feel like going to work at that bargain store.” Leilani smacked her teeth. “They gon’ fire you yo.” I shrugged. “And I wont give a fuck. Anywho, lets go out tonight? Drinks on me cause I know I aced that shit!”
“Free drinks? Hell to da yeah!” Lolani snapped her fingers and started dancing. In high school I had this friend that made fake IDs. I asked him to make some for us and he did it with no problem. It had our pictures on it but he just changed the birthday. “Thats what Im talking bout. Well Im on my way home so get shit popping.” I hung up on them and cranked my baby up.
When I made it home and inside, the girls had Dreezy playing throughout the house. Mama was still at work of course. I went to my room and hopped in the shower before running the flat iron through my hair. “Let me use your foundation.” Loryn came in the bathroom looking through my cabinets. “Im almost running out now.” Shes been using my shit more than me. “I’ll get you some more.” She replied and walked out with the foundation in her hand.
“Are you ladies ready?” I glanced at the clock and seen it was hitting eight thirty. I had enough time to do my hair, a nice beat and get fly as fuck. I picked up my shoes and everything else I needed before turning the light out and heading in the living room. All my sisters looked good. Right when we were about to walk out mama walked in.
“And where in the hell are yall going?” She examined our outfits and shook her head. “Where the rest of yall clothes at?” I leaned all of my weight on one leg and sighed. “Ma c’mon now.” She kissed our foreheads and said, “please be safe and look out for each other.”
“Oh yeah, can we drive the Rubicon?” Loryn was fidgeting with her hands. Mama cocked her head to the side. “And who will be driving?” They snapped their heads in my direction saying, “Londyn.” She took the keys off the wall and held them to me. “Dont wreck it!” She yelled as we rushed out the house in excitement.
Stepping inside of the club, I drug them to the bar and ordered shots of Hennessy. “Lets get fucked up!” I asked the bartender for another round of shots and after downed them, we went to the dance floor. “Girl dont look now, but I think I see Kaiden.” My head snapped in the direction Loryn was looking in so fast. Now why would this bitch even tell me not to look?
Kaiden and I made eye contact and he gave me a good overlook. When he noticed how I was dressing he got up from the table, whispered something in his brothers ear, who I just noticed was here, and made his way to me. “Wassup ladies?” He greeted my sisters. “You single now or sumn?” I was beyond confused.
“I mean you dressed like you aint got no man so you must be.” I didnt see anything wrong with my outfit. I thought I looked good as fuck. “Fuck wrong witchu Londyn?” I jerked my head back. “Hey to you too, yeah my exams went well today.” I fired off sarcastically. His face softened. “Damn I forgot you had to take ya exams this week.” This nigga here.
“I already know ya smart ass passed that shit so congrats princess.” He lent down pressed his lips to mines. His hands made their way to my ass. “Lets go to the bathroom real quick.” I pushed him back a little and shook my head. “Pause. What are you doing here anyway?” I placed my hands on my hips only for Kaiden to slap them down.
“Working.” He responded nonchalantly shrugging. “With your brother here?” I could already see him catching an attitude. “We goin’ to the bathroom or what?” I rolled my eyes. “No nigga. Buy me a drink.” He pulled his pants up a little and grabbed onto my hips. Walking back to the bar I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Lolani and Karter was looking mighty comfortable, enjoying each others company and shit.
“You tryna be a love doctor I see.” I slid into the small space between him and the bar. I looked up at him as he ordered two Hennessy straights. “Whatchu talkin’ bout?” I gave him my best nigga please face. “Your brother and Lolani?”
Kaiden searched around for them then suddenly stopped. “Girl mind yo business. And for two, I aint even know yall was gon’ be here.” My sister is my business. “That girl is grown believe it or not,” he handed me my drink and I gladly took a sip, “she gon’ do what she wanna do regardless. She probably aint even gon’ give his ass a chance.”
“Why you think that?” He opened his mouth but closed it back shrugging. “Just a guess.” Mhm, you think you slick nigga. Ima just leave it alone until shes ready to tell me about Karter. Downing the rest of our drinks Kaiden wrapped his arms around my waist, swaying our bodies to the music. “I've been missing you like crazy.” He left trails of soft kisses on my neck. “Shit. I cant tell.” I fussed. “I haven't seen you this whole week.”
I poked my bottom lip out. I was really missing my man and only wanted to be under him while studying. “My fault baby. Ive been busy wit work and everythang. Niggas short on money nshit like that.” He sighed looking down at me. I applaud Kaiden for being about his money, I just wished he went about it another way. “You got all my attention.” We were in our own little world. Not giving a damn who seen us slobbering each other down at the bar.

L E I L A N I
Seems like I was the only bitch single out here and the dj had some nerve. Playing slow jams all night. Loryn, who was holding the keys in her purse, handed them over to me about an hour ago. This hoe was ditching us again for Ace. Said he had “plans” for them. Lolani and Londyn were in their own little worlds so I made me way outside and to the jeep.
“Where you been hiding at lil mama?” I knew that voice like the back of my hand. “I been here, just staying lowkey.” I could feel him burning a whole through the back of my head. “Oh yeeeeah, staying lowkey after you killed my child huh?” In a swift second I was facing him.
“Dont,” I held my hand up. “we would've ruined that kid and you know it. You was running around fucking mad hoes.” Jamal took a step towards me and I held my breath. “You aint so innocent LeiLei.” I loved when he called me that. “I never crossed you! Anything I did, was done after you. I know you think I was wrong for killing the baby but I did what was best for us.” I refused to cry. I did enough crying after I aborted my child.
That was something I had to do on my own; without my sisters. Without their comfort. My family was against abortion but I couldn't bring that child into this world knowing I couldn't raise it. “Are you happy without me?” Truth be told I couldn't answer that. “Ive changed LeiLei. And I know Ive said that many time but I mean it this time. Let me show you.” Jamal was never the type to beg.
I met him in middle school and from then we had this love hate relationship. But when it came time for high school we hooked up, and boy we were fucking like rabbits. Everyone thought we were dating so played along not knowing that it would end up serious. The same day I found out about being pregnant was the same day his fuck buddy came to me. Also the same day Jamal got arrested, for damn near killing her.
She wanted to be bold and let him know what she had done, and that was the reaction he gave her in return. “Lei?” He now had his hands on my waist. I missed his touch. I quickly backed up and handed him my phone. “Put your number in and I’ll hit you up. I gotta smoke on this shit.” Without hesitation he put his number in.
When I got my phone back I proceeded on my way. My leg felt like jelly and I was too geeked when I found the truck. I got in the backseat and immediately went for the weed and woods. I cant believe this nigga just popped his ass up on me. How? Why? After all this time you decided to just show up? Now? He just gotta be shitting me man.
It only took me five minuted to roll up and I sparked it with quickness after I was done. I sat in nothing but silence and a cloud full of smoke. Mama would kill me if she knew about me smoking in here but shit, oh well.
Lolani almost made me shit bricks when she knocked on the window. I unlocked the door and opened it. “Why you just aint use ya phone stupid?” I scolded. She shrug ans slid in beside me. “Why you aint getting lit?” I lifted the wood. “I am.” After snatching it from me she questioned,”I mean in there Lei.” She bent down to unzip her heels.
“Yall bitches left me and went after some dick. Loryn is with Ace, Londyn in there swallowing Kaiden tongue and you,” I looked over at her “well shit you here now.” She hit the wood a couple of times before passing it back to me. “Karter wont really bout shit ya know? It was like a one way conversation if you asked me.”
“You could've fooled me.” Smoke got caught in my throat and coughed hard as hell. “You sound like a man.” “Fuck you. But anyways you do know thats gonna be your brother in law?” I took another hit and passed it to her. “Kaiden and Londyn really fucking with each other. So I think you should just let that go sus.” I only wanted the best for my twin.
“Omari has a baby on the way.” “I just seen Jamal.” We blurted at the same time. Lolani quickly put the wood out and turned her body towards me. “Where has he been?” “Your guess is as good as mine. He just popped the fuck up. Scared a bitch too.” Be both shared a laugh. “Nah but listen, he went to jail for beating up a bitch he was cheating with and now he says that he changed. I missed him. A lot.”
I felt like venting so thats what I did. “It was like, during our relationship my whole world revolved around him. I did everything I could for him and it still wasn't enough. He just had to dip into something new.” I picked at my nails. “I ended up getting pregnant but aborted it.” A single tear fell from my eye. “Lei,”
“I never wanted to do it Lolani. I swear! I still think about how fucked up I was for killing an innocent child, but..” Lolani slid close to me and hugged me tight. “Who am I to judge Lei? Im your sister and Im far from innocent.” She kissed my forehead and sighed. “Fuck Jamal. You dont need him. Shit we dont need these niggas girl. You can always find someone better who will literally worship the ground you walk on. Trust me, I know.”
She continued comforting me until our phones chimed. It was Londyn letting us know that she was going on home with Kaiden. “Andrews?” Without saying a word we both jumped in the front. Might as well eat before we head home. “You better air this shit out.” Lolani reminded me.

Microsoft
There we go.
I now have my microsoft notes working. It seems Im in trouble with corporate for having an icloud account. However my icloud account is where Im not in trouble with banks or various entites of power or enterprise.
It occurs to me, that I will probably not be home any time soon. With Missy Cocasmoka having a lesbionic vendetta out against all males as well as a cousin who happens to affiliate with the k*ke judge of Clackamas: I might either be in jail or forced to testify in Vancouver Court. It occurs to me that social workers have most likely lied out their asses to persons back home. It occurs to me that they are investigating my social networks and evaluating any potential threat. It occurs to me that these people being at corporate war with us: might want to move their asses to Canada. Most, are the product of problematic facets of white society we as "Holier than thou Injuns of Wichita" have complained about for 300 years. Most, are the type we would incarserate before their car reached Wichita. Most are the type whos car would be automatically impounded. Most are the type we sue for their citizenships and deport to prevent social problems as well as protect the peace in America.
Im not on the peacekeeper's list. Im not to concern myself with such matters. Which I suppose is a good thing. Being on that list means I cant call Officer Rusco a bitch. Not being on that list means I can speak my mind & tell people things like "Officer Davidson's wife has a stinky vagina". So yes: not being on the list of peacekeepers is a good thing. I get to be on the list of war mongering whores next to Hillary Clinton and the U.S. President. This allows me to do things, like flip off Hardesty & Wheeler. This allows me to do things like have people kicked in the head. You know, folks who decided to try to demand a randsom while I sat there in the hidden substructure of the library.
Court...
Will solidify my identity domestically and globally. Im me. They're not me. Bezos is not me. The States of Kansas, Colorado, Oregon, & California have me fingerprinted and easily identified by fingerprint & e-print.
Washington provides a state rebate check. They give you 6,000$ a year for being you. If I was given mine: I would aleady have the resource to buy a new car & return home. I've been here that long. However I don't get one. Too many people like to be me and I usually would prefer to be someone else especially when being defined negatively by persons I am naturally at war with moreso than strangers from nations Ive never heard of. I have been cheated of this, as well as work, communication with, and word from within corporations I own. Some are corporations I was born with. Some that Ive owned since infancy and childhood. Nobody who is anybody has been actually had by imposters.
I think I like Microsoft Notes for Android O.S./Fire O.S.
Its a good place to put my spastic thoughts which fly from my fingertips at a rate of 40 words per minute. Im all thumbs here. I have typed on a keyboard since the first grade in Loveland Colorado. I now type at nonhuman speeds, 90-120 words per minute. I've landed on every last spam list doing do. I need a real computer with an ergonomic keyboard. I think I want to design it myself. IBM is on autopilot. I should make one and show it off as a "John Lambert Origional" while designating everyone's shit as counterfeit merchandise. Yeah, that company is it's own entity. It is it's own monster.
IBM has a mind & life of its own. It's alive, like Frankenstien.
Im probably going to be decomissioned and stripped for parts, just to make a golem to serve the purpose of being the new corporate head of everythang. That bottle of paliperidone looks much less appealing. However it is good to keep arround.

June 27, 2016 (Day 2)
Rick stares at his wife’s perfectly rounded butt as she stands on their balcony overlooking the shallow, blue green water that surrounds their hut.  They’d taken a cruise line to this remote little island and will spend three wonderful days here on the water and he is loving every minute of it.  He never imagined that getting married again would feel this good but he is happier than he can ever recall being in his life.  She brings out the playful, adventurous side of him and he wants to explore everything with her.
He continues to lounge in bed, gloriously naked, hoping the heat from his stare will draw her attention back to him.  When that doesn’t work, he quietly gets out of bed and makes his way to her, wrapping his arms around her with a squeeze, delighting in her giggle and her gasp when she realizes he is naked.
“Rick.  What are you doing?”  She can’t help the laugh that bubbles up.  Her husband has absolutely no shame.  She doesn’t know if she should be annoyed or completely turned on.
“Wondering why this water is so fascinating when you’ve got a naked man in your bed with a raging hard…..”
She turns to face him, placing a finger against his lips.  “Didn’t I just leave our bed?  There’s no way you’re….”  She trails off as he thrusts into her and she realizes that he is indeed ready for more.  “Oh….”  The shape her mouth forms is just the invitation he needs as he places his lips on hers and slips his tongue inside.
He allows his hands to drop to her butt and palms her before lifting her up, her legs circling his waist, and carrying her back to bed.
Hours later, the sunlight is waning and she realizes they have spent their first official day on the island in bed.  She looks over to her resting husband, wondering if he has finally tired himself out with that performance he recently put on.  She understands that this is the number one activity on most honeymoons but Rick has been like a man on a mission.
She gives him a gentle shake.  When he gives her a soft ‘hmmm’, she tells him, “I’m going to prepare dinner now.  You know food, sustenance.  We do need to eat.  And tomorrow we’re going horseback riding on the beach.”  She makes a move to vacate the bed but he grabs her, burrowing his face between her breasts before latching on to one.
“Oh no you don’t.  You were just sleeping and I’m hungry.”
“Me too,” he answers as he moves lower.
She laughs.  “Don’t.  Stop it right now.  I’m serious.  We need to eat…..food!”  She grasps his face with both hands, lifting his head.  “What has gotten into you?  Do you realize we’ve practically made love nonstop since we got here?”
“Really?  How many times?”
She rolls her eyes at him.  “I’m not saying.”
“I know you know because you’ve counted.  Only you would keep up with stuff like that.”
“Whatever!”  She scrambles out of bed and makes a mad dash for the bathroom, locking the door as she hears the knob rattling.  She breathes a sigh of relief fathoming she just did make it inside.  His ass was actually in pursuit.  She takes the time to shower then walks into their bedroom moving straight to their luggage that she hasn’t had the privilege of unpacking yet.
Her husband lies back in bed, watching her with ‘come hither’ eyes.  She avoids his gaze.  “You may as well take a shower and get dressed.  We’re going to have dinner in a bit.  Ok love?”
“Ok.”  He stands up, making a spectacle of himself as he stretches long and soundly.  He walks toward her slowly and retrieves a couple of items from the open suitcase.  Her heart races as she watches him, wondering how he can still affect her at this level after all their time together.  She gives herself a little shake and with the closing of the bathroom door lets out the breath she didn’t even know she was holding.
She dresses casually and hurries to the kitchen to start dinner.  Anything to occupy her mind because he is going to regulate her to a nympho at this rate.
Almost an hour later, they are seated at the dining room table and she is trying her best not to laugh.  He entered the kitchen sans clothes after his shower, asking if there was anything he could help with but she politely declined and told him he could look over the brochures and help plan their day out on tomorrow.  Now he sits across from her still naked and she can’t carry on a conversation without wanting to laugh.
“I can’t take this any more.  What are you hoping to accomplish by walking around naked all the time?”
“Am I making you uncomfortable?  I don’t get to do this at home so why not here on my honeymoon where it’s completely expected?”  He answers.  “You know you could always join me.”  His lips tremble as he tries to hold back a smile.
“So what are we doing besides horseback riding tomorrow?”
“I suppose we could do a little sightseeing, take a boat out to swim or parasail.  How does that sound?”  He asks.
“It sounds wonderful,” she returns, happy that he finally seems to be on the same page as she is….with some things anyway.  Curiosity piques again and she hates to bring the subject back to that but she has to know.  “So am I just that desirable or are you just that horny?”
He lifts his brows with a comical expression.  “Both.  Plus how awesome would it be for you to get pregnant on our honeymoon?”
She gasps.  “Pregnant?!”
“Yes pregnant.  Don’t you want a baby?”
She blinks several times, trying to comprehend the conversation.  “I mean…..yeah.  We talked about it but I thought you meant later on.”  Visions of his insatiable appetite as of late materialize in her head, resulting in a rising temperature and her body readying itself for his.
“I told you.  I want to share everythang with you and wouldn’t that be the ultimate adventure?”
She swallows with difficulty as she tries to hold her emotions at bay.  “Rick Grimes, you are changing my mind about everything.  You always….surprise me.”
“Is that a good thang or a bad thang?”
“It’s the best thang ever,” she answers as she lifts to a stand and pulls her shirt over her head.  She slowly removes an article of clothing as she makes her way to him just as naked as he is.  He pushes his chair back and she straddles him right there at the table, lowering her mouth to his.  “Let’s make a baby.”

The Road - Chapter Two

AUNT EASY
"Sister needs somebody to go by and see about her.  She's not feeling well today.  I made her some cat shit and some chicken soup.  I told her I'd send you by this evening to go on and see how she's doing, see if she needs anything.  Tell her I'll be by in the morning."  Mama loaded me down with the medicine that she called, "cat shit", and the soup and sent me to my auntie's, Miss Easy.  Down the dirt road a piece I ran into a neighbor family on their way to town and they started to ask me a whole lotta questions and started telling me a whole lotta this and a whole lotta that, that nobody gave a care about anyway, and I cared even less but had to stand there and smile and nod my head like I was told and taught to do.  By the time they were done nosing into my business and chided their mule to move on down the road I almost forgot where I was going but looked at the bundle in my arms, remembered and kept it moving to Aunt Easy's.
Aunt Easy laid motionless on her feather bed and whispered for me to, "come on in," after I knocked twice on the wooden door. She tried to follow my movements in the room with her eyes but would loose track of me as I moved out of her limited peripheral vision.  I wet a cloth to wipe auntie's forehead and give her some comfort and relief from the fever that had caught her and the sweat beads that had collected on her brow. "Can you sit up?"  I asked and auntie shook her head.  "I can try.  Seems like I got some kinder buggety bug."  "Well, you definitely feel a little feverish and breaking a sweat.  Let's get some of this Mama D sent in you.  You look a little piqued around the edges too."  Although they was sisters Aunt Easy was real light skinned, tall and big boned.  If her hair was covered under a hat or pulled back real tight so the edges didn't show and the kink was pulled out of it, sometimes folks in town addressed her as "mam," or "miss," then got real embarrassed when they realized she was colored.  It didn't make much sense cause these same folks would be real nice one minute and the next minute they were like something or someone brand new.  Like in a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde schizophrenic kind of way.    I ladled out the "cat shit" and Auntie took it like a champ.  She didn't hold her nose, like I did, or wince and poke her lips out.  She swallowed it in one gulp and turned the corners of her lips up in a half sort of smile like I had just given her a spoonful of honey or blackstrap molasses.  The soup was still warm but I put a little more heat under it to be sure it was comforting and would do the job it was intended to do.  I had been with Auntie and Mama D enough times tending the sick and ailing among our neighbors, and sometimes white folks, to know how it was supposed to be.  "How's your granny doing,"  Auntie asked.  Always concerned and looking out for each other, sisters indeed.  "She's fine.  She been out in the shack working on something."  "Oh yeah?"  Aunt Easy cocked her head.  She was looking better already.  "What's she working on?"  "I don't know, but whatever it is, it 'shole must be important. She spending more time and working more angles and lighting more candles than usual."  "Well, whatever it is I reckon we'll know about soon enough. You, me, and everybody else that's for sure."  Auntie was right.  Mama D's workings always showed their proof in the passage of time. The delivery of truth and the balm to soothe a worrying mind or the sick at heart is what Mama D was good at.  Mama D was a miracle worker for sure. I'd seen it too many times how she used her energy and power, like casting a spell and weaving magic.
Auntie's house was at the opposite edge of our property, on a few rolling hills, closer to the edge of town.  You could just about see the whole town from auntie's front porch, the few little buildings, a post office, a bank, and Jakes Dry Goods.  Not much more than that except a blacksmith and a livery barn made up the rest of the businesses. The one hundred acres, the land given to my Grandpa Tom and Granny Pearl by the foreigner, Erwin Palmer, the place I called home, the only place I've ever known, divided the town between east and west.  It had been so for quite some time. An act of kindness, neighborliness, and community urged my great grandparents to continue to allow the road, the dirt and gravel and ruts where wagon wheels had worn it through, to pass right through their land and give access to each and everyone.  Auntie's shack had been built by Grandpa Tom and placed and situated on a small mound to give a view of the land and of the town in a way that was not like a sentry or lookout but a beacon, a light on a hill.           "Who was that I saw you talking to up the road a piece?" Auntie asked like it wasn't a question but it was.  "Now what was you doing out of the bed looking up the road?  How you 'spossed to get better if you don't rest and take it easy?  No wonder you was sweating like a mule when I came in here."  "Don't worry about what I was doing out the bed for. Who was it?"  They say a hard head makes a soft behind.  Well, Auntie's head was about as hard as a rock and the only one I know whose head could have been harder was Mama D's or mine.  It runs in the family I guess.  "It was Miss Rose wanting to know everythang about everybody like she always do.  "How was you doing?  How was Mama D?'  Why they couldn't just stop in and find out for they self since they was passing right on by is beyond me but..."  Auntie cut me off!  "Little Lady, don't never begrudge your neighbors and get on like you don't have time to give a howdy do.  They was just being friendly and neighborly.  That's how we do."  "And nosy," I added.  "Well yes, and nosy."  "They was asking about the road coming through and what we thought about it." "Road?  What road?"  Auntie's curiosity piqued and she sat up in the bed and if you didn't know any better you wouldn't have known she was ailing, sick, and wasn't feeling good. She looked toward the window and asked again, "What road child?"  "I don't know.  They said something about a new road being made right over the top of the old one and some kinda papers at the court house and everybody in town was talking about it, but I told them we didn't know nothing about no road and that she was crazy cause the only reason we was letting folks use this road in the first place is cause we was trying to be good neighbors and that's all I know." "Your grandma didn't know about the road?"  Aunt Easy quizzed me.  "Not that I know of."  Aunt Easy looked perplexed and puzzled and sprang from the bed like she was a young girl and she wasn't sick no more and had been done healed.  I told you Mama D's soup and "cat shit" would work a miracle.  I don't know how, but it does.  Miss Easy was agitated now as she looked for her boots and hat.  "Don't nobody know nothing about nothing around here! We can't just sit around and wait for them to come and build a road right on top of the old one right through our land.  This ain't no time to be lounging around!  We got to get to gettin'!"  Miss Easy was out the door leaving it wide open, and down the road a piece before I came out behind her.  This, apparently, was serious.  If I had known what I know I would have been told it and she could have rested a little easy, but it's too late for that now.
We was on Mama D's porch and Auntie knocked twice and just went on in.  Mama D was by the fire reading and looked up a little surprised, but calm as she laid the book in her lap, smoothed the pages, shut it, and put it on the table. "Sister did you know about this here road they talking about putting across our land?" "Louise sit down."  Mama called Auntie by her Christian name and Auntie took a seat in front of the fire.  "I knew about it, and I'm working on it.  No need in you getting worked up and bothered about something that ain't coming to pass and ain't going to be.  Not long as I got breath in my body."  "Little Lady said she talked to Rose Jackson on the road and they said they got papers from the court and petitions and all this and that. This ain't no time to be lounging around."  Mama D looked straight at Aunt Easy and then back at the fire.  She looked up and her lips parted and she said, "Now as long as you've known me and as long as we've been sisters, that's a long time, you ain't never known me to just sit still, be lounging around, and not be moved when called.  I've got things under control, trust me.  And besides that you know as well as I do not to be setting store by nothing Rose Jackson has to say."  They shared a laugh together.  Aunt Easy realized her folly.  "Ain't that the truth?  I guess that fever had me all sixes and sevens.  You right.  But just the though of it."  "Well think no more on it," Mama D replied matter of fact and plain. "I got this under control."
