How long had it been laid here? It had to have been a long time, it wasn’t as if it could move anymore; screws had come loose and parts were jammed by mud and rocks and blades of grass, and its key had gotten wedged deep into the mucky dirt. The poor thing twitched and rattled, it was desperate to keep turning, and yet it couldn’t move. The entire ship was unable to move. Its wriggling key beneath the ground was the only thing that made it move at all. The surrounding ambiance of rustling grass and pattering rain felt almost suffocating, that was all it had listened to for what felt like centuries. Nothing else made any noise. It never beeped or whizzed, most of its functions were no longer working. With the large life-form it detected nearby, perhaps that was a good thing. Alerting dangerous fauna of its presence could risk the harm of its captain, should he ever come back. Yet could it be sure any creatures were nearby at all if most of its functions weren’t working? It would prefer to think its area scanning features still would work as intended, but it could no longer be sure. It wasn’t sure of many things at the moment.

All it could do was stare up, and stare up it did.

Up into the cloudy grey sky above it, as the rain water gathered upon its eyes and blurred its optical receptors. Here, it’d done just that since the initial failure of a landing. All it did was stare as the weather gently tore it apart, parts of it being worn down and breaking off from its main body, even its usual blaring alarm if it received major damage was not working. Its damage receptors were still fine - it was in writhing agony, being completely immobilised only worsened the feeling.

…but this had been a long time coming, hadn’t it? The ship was extremely old now. It’d stood proudly by its company since their humble beginnings - oh, back then the Hocotatians loved it - and it always did at least have frequent usage for shipments. It was well aware even the thermostat in the main cockpit didn’t work anymore, it had gained many holes during its time, many parts of it were rusted and crudely patched. It should have been decommissioned and shut down far sooner. It was far too worn. It should have expected something to knock it down a peg and make everything finally end. This was going to happen eventually. But where was the honour in a shutdown alone and crumbled on an unrecognised planet? Was this all it deserved for all the work it did for the company? This company would have never gotten off its own two feet had it not been there! It was practically the face of it all! It was The Hocotate Ship! And what does it get after all of its toil? Abandoned to shut off on its own in the muck and mess of an alien planet. How was this supposed to be fair? It wasn’t fair, not in the slightest. It deserved an honourable death serving its captain, perhaps even the President himself, it didn’t deserve this, it did not want to shut off like this. It can’t shut off like this. Olimar and Louie had to come back for it eventually. How would they go back to their families without it? What would they have done without its support, and upgrades, and advice? Was it really going to be discarded by them after one measly little crash? Questioning everything this way tired it.

The ship was tired.

Incredibly tired, tired of thinking.

im a sucker for hopeful endings and fucked up characters getting healed so tbh i hope qcellbit gets worst as much as everyone else but i hope he gets better after. i hope he looks back at the bridges he's burned and sees them being repaired by everyone. i hope they hand him his own crumbling pieces because every mental spiral has an end and if you cant see the light at the end of the tunnel that just means your friends arent done digging yet

10. barbie and ken. well actually ken and ken bc there was some miscommunication over who was going as who (steve figured robin was going as barbie bc Girl and robin just wanted to go as ken and figured it would be a better costume if they swapped dolls and then did not communicate this to steve) however nobody knew who they were supposed to be bc there was no iconic ken outfit at the time

9. garfield and odie. just made up of dog/cat ear headbands, yellow/orange shirts, and new name tags on their family video vest. lazy perhaps

8. jonathan + argyle. universally panned by the party bc neither of them had long enough hair to effectively be argyle. esp bc robin went as argyle and had just recently gotten a buzzcut in a panic the week before and the funky patterned pants and button up combo artfully curated at the salvation army could not compensate. however steve’s costume included constant comments abt the smiths, the who, the clash etc which did go over especially well with nancy and argyle

7. marty mcfly. steve tried to convince robin to be the love interest from the movie but only got as far as saying love interest before robin interrupted and asked if he even knew her name (he didn’t and neither did she) and said her dad already had the vest so she should get to be marty mcfly!! at which point steve was like ugh fine. and thought about admitting that he could ask dustin for a lab coat to borrow or ask max to steal one from the science lab but didn’t bc he couldn’t stand the thought of wrecking his hair to look like doc brown. so they just ended up both going as marty mcfly. dustin was doc brown

6. luke and han solo. actually accidental they independently showed up to a party while having a minor fight and realized they were still in matching costumes. drunkenly cried in the upstairs bathroom and made up. this was pre robin’s haircut and was one of the Incidents she gave as evidence for why she needed to cut her hair

5. batman and robin. robin was able to successfully bully steve into being robin. done before robin-with-pants became recognizable so they settled on green-dyed denim shorts (a lovely contribution from the goodwill). robin strangerthings had a fully decked out utility belt lovingly rendered in cardboard and acrylic paint by will with oversight from max. max herself has gone as batman as well (and wonder woman obviously) and used the same utility belt.

4. luke and leia. only successfully coordinated movie costume. this was post robin’s haircut so she went as luke and steve went as leia. obviously went as the classic versions to match even more.

3. their dnd characters as portrayed in an epic six week campaign run by erica sinclair the summer of 1987. caused chaos in the party who had not known about said campaign at the time of it being played and were only slightly devastated by the fact that they hadn’t been informed. only erica and dustin knew who they were dressed as but erica was thrilled :)

2. butterfly + caterpillar. robin dated an art/sculpture student while in college who was really into papier mache. she made them overly elaborate costumes to model for a final project + and they took them back from her dorm after the brutal breakup brought on by a disagreement over joan jett. steve was the butterfly and robin was the caterpillar. they were theeee most inconvenient costumes to wear to a party but they got a lot of compliments and it was a great story to tell people

1. each other obviously. repeated at least four(/“five”. it’s disputed) times, including twice in one year when they were trying to hit as many costume parties as possible in one week. they still argue that the year where halloween was just on a tuesday and they swapped name tags for their shift totally counts. this is not one of the four times.

I can’t stop thinking about Art viewing his queerness as something to grow out of.

Why he focuses so hard on Tashi. Why he drops Patrick after college even before he’s with Tashi. Why he speaks to Patrick the way he does in the sauna.

Yeah you could argue he’s mad about the cheating in the latter and I’m sure he is. He’s once again being left out. He can’t stomach it. But he’s also so so angry at Patrick for the way he makes him feel.

He’s obsessed with Tashi. Obviously he is. But that’s the sneaky thing about bisexuality. You can focus on the real attraction you feel toward a woman and use those feelings to push out any attraction you have to men. Which… kind of… works for him. Up until Patrick returns.

If I had got a nickel for every time I made a playlist for some type of clown character, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot- But it’s weird it happened twice?….

Anyways I did actually make a Kaufmo playlist. I ABSOLUTELY am obsessed with him right now so I did a thing. Hope it’s to your taste 🫶🫶

(Also I took some inspiration seeing someone make a list of what songs describe Kaufmo so I took some of that and threw it in there, then I threw in a couple that I’d think will work with him)

What kind of vices do you think Helia has?

Here are some of his canon vices!

Very self-deprecating - It gets better later on and especially as Flora hypes him up, but Helia tends to think of himself and his actions in a very negative way and doesn't do much to challenge that narrative. He unconsciously relies on the others to make himself feel better a lot!

Self-critical - A thing that can be good in moderation, but like all vices, Helia takes it too far. He's overly observant and critical of himself to the point where it's like he's playing the observer all the time. He then gets anxious and convinces himself he's a horrible person cause he made One mistake. Way to go dude

Escapist - He has a hard time sticking around once he's convinced himself that people would be better off without him.

On a similar note, avoiding conflict. It may not seem obvious since Helia occasionally calls out the others, but that only happens when he's genuinely not in the wrong (or doesn't feel in the wrong). If something happens that he thinks he caused or was involved in, he tends to avoid that conflict and fallout.

And if I'm being honest, avoidance in general. Again, it's one of those things that gets missed easily, but that sort of mysteriousness/shyness that people often see in Helia? That's usually avoidance from him! He avoids talking to people unless they speak to him first, he avoids telling people about himself or his life, he'll outright ignore people if he doesn't like them, etcetc. There are times when it's for a good reason (not talking to the trix for example) and times when it's incredibly annoying and counterproductive (like with the specialists or flora). It should be noted that this behavior mostly shows up in his personal life rather than on missions but if anything, I think that shows he's aware of this but doesn't change it.

Impulsive - Again, it may not seem like it but Helia is very impulsive! A lot of the decisions he makes throughout canon are done in the moment and with very little thinking. It's easy to miss because Helia is a fast thinker and quick on his feet so his actions often seem more planned out than they actually are, but if you look at the individual actions themselves and how quick he makes them after Just thinking of them, it gets really obvious. In the show, I'd say the best and most well-known example would be in his introduction episode, aka the monster stunt. Again, it's easy to miss, but that wasn't planning or cautious thinking from him, that was full on impulsivity (both grabbing the monster And leaving). Other good examples would be the Shaab Stone arc in the comics (literally an entire arc of Helia being impulsive as hell), the s2 florelia kiss scene, Helia saving Sky in s2 when they're in Darkar's Fortress, and him running up to every enemy.

I'm not sure what you would call this, maybe recklessness?, but Helia often has very little regard for his own safety. He regularly puts himself into dangerous situations that he doesn't Need to be in without thinking about how badly it's gonna hurt him. Well,,, he does think about whether or not it'll kill him, but if the answer is "no", then it doesn't matter how much danger he's in, he's gonna do it. This often ends with one of the specialists yelling at him which is funny but Still. I do think it's important to note that he's not reckless with the other's safety (he's overly cautious with them) but he definitely is with his own.

I feel like there are others I Could list but they don't show up quite enough for me to call them his vices (ie the occasional stubbornness, lack of confidence, or jealousy). I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS LIST OF HIS MENTAL ANGUISHES I KNOW I DO

thinking very hard abt what if the mc wasnt the only one volo just gave out stuff to. like he’ll give away his wares to just about anyone in need, and its very well known amongst the ginkgo guild he does this, but volo likes to make his gift-ee believe they are a Very special someone and that this offer is to be kept a secret between them because he doesnt give out free potions to just Anyone (he does)

that despite his plans for this world and his disdain for its cruelty as a whole, he doesnt resent individuals, and if he alone can ease the cruelty of the world just a little bit before his big Divine Confrontation, even if its just giving a crying kid a doll, he’ll do it.
