Eddie stops mid stride, just sneaking back from his quick midday smoke behind the bus garage. He wasn’t usually one to dabble in the affairs of cheerleaders (unless if he’s invited to of course) but that little side quip laced with spiky envy from Tracy Verdonowitz is enough to grab his attention by the back of the neck and yank him out of his half high, kinda still hungover stupor.

“I mean… I think it’s sweet!” A blonde junior points out.

“It’s disgusting.” Tracy replies shortly.

He knows just who they're talking about before he lifts his baggy, burned out gaze across the campus… because of course it’s them. Of fucking course. Who else could it be? As a district, town, planet they all just orbit around them, every freaking little thing they do. Nobody ever bothers to have a thought or a life of their own, nooooo… they all feed obsessively suckle off of the general perfection that is always just oozing off of the King and Queen. Because, let’s be honest, their mundane is the fucking glory of Valinor for the rest of them, the motley, miserable, midwest student body of Hawkin’s High.

And he can’t climb on his soap box or lunch table to protest about it today, because he too stops and he looks.

Eddie’s throat constricts as he tries and fails to swallow, that dull pain at seeing any and every of their daily intimacies having a little more sting to it in his presently raw state of being.

Unfortunately, he did not get drunk enough over the weekend to not notice that something was different about them. Tracy’s bite isn’t just a jealous over exaggeration (no judgment by the way), because the PDA has definitely been cranked up a notch.

They’re relatively innocent on average, to be fair. Very Jack and Jill. Ken and Barbie. Fred and Daphne. Hand holding, quick pecks on the cheek, an arm around her shoulder. Prim and proper, clean, but today…

Carver really has been all over this girl, he’s presently got her trapped against the passenger door of his jeep, all bent over her, one hand pressed against the molding, the other inching up beneath her gym shirt.

He can only see her braced legs under the car, and her little hand latched tightly on Jason’s wrist like a vice where he’s reaching up her shirt.

“Woaw.” Gigi sighs, biting the corner of her lip as she watches the tryst intently. Obviously some basic biology questions being answered for her.

Jason’s hand moves from the molding to hold her neck and Eddie has to look away, down into the cracks of the pavement he wished he was buried under, because it’s… it’s too much, especially after Indianapolis and… he just can’t today. No matter how much he wants to know what has upped the rating to PG-13, he needs to keep walking, to get back inside. Keslink’s test sure isn’t going to flunk itself.

He barely manages a heavy step forward when the senior cheer captain Kelly Brooks speaks up next with that slight southern lilt to her voice. “Oh sweetie, that’s not really surprising, especially after Saturday.”

“What happened Saturday?” Becky asks, lowering her voice as they all gather around her. “You mean at homecoming?”

i. How do you feel about your current occupation?

Their question is regarded with a critical gaze, as is the face of the person who had uttered it. Narcissa is unafraid of silence. She knows it is there that power truly lies. Her answer takes its time to form upon her tongue. “The need to ask that suggests you haven’t made the effort to do any form of background research into me before starting this interview. My current occupation – my only occupation – is the second most important thing to me. The first being my family, which, given the overlap between them and my job, should give you some idea of just how much it means to me.”

ii. What song would you say describes yourself?

The unorthodox question takes her by surprise, although only someone who knew her body language well, who had learnt her cues ( Andromeda comes to mind; Bellatrix and Maya, too ) – the inaudible exhale of air; the slow blink of mascara-lined lashes; the brief parting of her lips – would be able to tell. “I think,” Narcissa begins, prim caution evident in her tone, “that you would get a more accurate answer were you to ask someone else to pick a song to describe me.” It’s an untrue statement, she’s aware as she says it. Nobody knows her better than herself. Nobody ever will if she has any say in the matter. Perfection of character, above all else. “If reputation stopped mattering to people, they would no longer strive to be the best version of themselves. iv. What is your relationship with your parents like?

A flicker of warmth dances across otherwise well-schooled features, fondness creeping into her tone. “I adore my mother. She is strong, and wise, and beautiful. I’ve never looked up to anyone more than I do her.” It has been that way for as long as she can remember; her youngest memory that of racing to keep up with her mother’s high-heeled strides, mimicking the posture of her walk, wanting to be as similar to her as any child does their hero. Reverie shifts to something hollower but no less adoring as Narcissa moves on to her father. “Daddy is a darling and puts up with my sisters and me so patiently. He has also ways been so good to us.” But she loves him for the blood they share and little else, just as he does her. Raising her chin, she allows a sliver of truth to shed its wings and free itself from the self-made cage of her chest. “I just want to make them both proud.”

v. What languages can you speak?

“Deux. French and Latin.” Two is a safe answer. Two is the sort of answer that doesn’t have people questioning whether she is perhaps more intellectually sharp than she would like them to believe. And it’s not necessarily a lie, not when French and Latin are the languages she is most efficient with, the ones she has been speaking for the longest alongside her native tongue. They do not need to know that she has also learnt Mandarin and Spanish, nor that Narcissa Black takes strength from being more than others assume.

vi. If your home was on fire and you could only save one item, what would you choose?

“That’s a horrible thing to ask someone and hardly appropriate.” She looks mildly taken aback, as if merely considering such an event has caused her some form of offence. Being materialistic should mean that she’d cherish the chance to re-furnish after only saving one item, but thought and care has gone into making her shared penthouse suite feel like a home for herself and Maya. “It’s impossible to answer. So I won’t.”

vii. Which Hogwarts University faculty did you study at? The Gryffindor School of Applied Science, the Ravenclaw School of Humanities, the Slytherin School of Social Science, or the Hufflepuff School of Art?

She has always looked good in ivy green; her parents had been sure to make that point when they’d placed the university prospectus down in front of her during breakfast. But it’s not that she hadn’t had a choice, not when her degree is precisely what she has always excelled at. “Slytherin School. I studied Marketing Communications at undergrad.” There’s a pause. The interviewer’s expectation prompts her to add more. “And Graphic Design for my masters.” She doesn’t mention what school that course belonged to. Her father had been all too efficient in getting it erased from her Wikipedia page and her name omitted from online information regarding Hufflepuff School alumni.

“Cissablack.” A business card is pulled from her purse and slid in their direction across polished mahogany. Gold accents catch the light, bright against the matte black background. “All one word.”

hello!! so remember those two drawings you drew a while back of jessica from becky prim with dental braces? could you please draw more images of jessica w/ braces?? as in like various expressions (like happy, angry, angrily smiling, worried, etc) and her braces would stand out a lot (like in the second picture you drew of her)? I absolutely love the concept of jessica wearing braces and it would be awesome if you did more!! thank you!!

I needed some drawing inspiration and I honestly love that short so I’ll def try to!
