And Liu Qingge is like "I understand. Obviously Mobei-Jun will feel insulted if no one attempts to assassinate him, so you need me to come and spend the entirety of the feast attempting to kill your future husband. If I succeed, one of the Peak Lords of Cang Qiong won't marry a literal demon. If I fail, at least my martial brother is happy and his husband's family is not slighted. Say no more, I understand my responsibility." And SQH is just like "..... Um. Actually."

In my version of the conversation-- or at least the one in my head (since I don't have it written out anywhere lmfao), I don't think SQH actually tells Liu Qingge about the assassination part at all? Partly because he assumes that Liu Qingge wouldn't actually be helpful and/or want to help.

Partly because it's much more fun (for Shang Qinghua) if Liu Qingge shows up unaware, because if LQG's already expecting folks to be violent... then where's the surprise when they start flirting with him? The permission to maim is worded more as an afterthought, ostensibly to entice and/or placate LQG into attending-- though SQH knows better~ :3

.......though, yeah, if it weren't for Liu Qingge's many suitors, he might've picked a fight with Mobei-Jun, too. Possibly. Yue Qingyuan warned him against it. Something-something about technically being allies, because MBJ's boss is Luo Binghe--who's still a Qing Jing disciple... while also being Shen Qingqiu's husband... and the Huan Hua Sect Leader... and, yes, a Demon Lord....

If the QQ didn't happen, how do you think Peeta and Katniss would've really gotten together? Do you think in her marriage to Peeta, she would have discovered her feelings for Peeta? How would Gale complicate or impact this?

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I can't see them ever finding real love if the Capitol is forcing them to marry and have kids. They would never be 100% sure what's real between them and what isn't (this theme isn't specific to Peeta's hijacking). Katniss would resent that her choice is being taken from her, and Peeta would always doubt that she wants a life with him.

At the same time, their relationship would save them both from going off the deep end in the midst of mentoring and doing Snow's bidding. They would take solace in each other and like the romantic stuff. At a certain point all of it would be natural for them as if they're a real married couple. Still, I think a rebellion is vital to them having a real love because otherwise they would never have the freedom and peace to actually choose each other.

I don't think Gale would be much of a factor in a scenario where Katniss is married to Peeta and acting as a mentor because this would mean they gave up on the idea of running away or inciting a rebellion. Whatever idea of a "romance" they had would've ended there and I'm not sure their friendship would survive it either because Gale would resent her for being "Capitol" like he does in canon. And she'd have too much on her plate to worry about hurting him anymore, which was the main reason she was torn IMO.

Okay so I have trash taste in media whether that be book or show or movie, but here’s what I got off the top of my head:

• six of crows obviously (never a wrong time for a reread)

• the night circus by erin morgenstern (basically if the gladiators were in a fantasy 1800s magical circus and they were also in love with each other)

• the if I stay duology by gayle forman (contemporary romance: girl in coma, boy play guitar; emotional roller coaster so beware)

• crier’s war duology by nina valera (sapphic sci-fi robot love)

• basically any thing by taylor jenkins reid (especially seven husbands and daisy jones; they’re the most popular for a reason)

• the cruel prince series by holly black (fae but not in the fantasy romantic way, in the actual complex evil fae folklore way; oh and enemies to lovers 🫡)

• the infernal devices series by cassandra clare (not to be cringe but the entire shadow hunters series has me by the throat. I am cringe but I am free. I already warned of my horrible taste in media)

A deplorable amalgamation I'm proud to call my own, and one which would probably make most HEMA purists wretch.

It's mostly a compromise between Hutton's method and that bastardized beast Miklaszewski calls Polish fencing though... with some shamelessly poached bits of modern Gatka.

The longer list of influences is, well, long... I started historical fencing after doing olympic style in college and just couldn't get enough, but then I'm a fan of the Bruce Lee approach - try it all, add what helps, and toss what doesn't: Chirstmann, Valville, Danet, Burton, Meyer, Silver, Angelo, De La Vega, Giganti, Cassani, etc. Even some Fiore has found its way into the arsenal over time, esp when it comes to grappling work.

If you could give a stranger one bit of life advice, what would it be?

Well thats a hard one... Probably dont let other people define you, dont force yourself to change yourself for others, it doesnt help and it will just make you feel like crap, and if you do that too much, you wont even know what the real you is really like. Take it from me, I've changed my personality with every group I've met, sometimes for each person. Its exhausting, and I'm completely out of touch with my feelings. Save yourself the pain, and dont do it.
