Dazor: Hello Peony. I’d ask about your ghosts and powers, but it seems that’s already been covered. Could you say more how you feel on Nick and Rhiainfellt? Understandable if that’s too much, otherwise more about any of your parents’ friends?

...But it's okay! I have Glock. And you know what I think? You only need one good friend to truly be happy. And I've got more friends than that, anyways! They're just not my age. I know I should probably try to be nicer to Rhiainfellt. I can only imagine she feels really alone. A long, long time ago— like way before me or even my parents were born, there was this mass exodus of people who used magic from intergalactic society. Among these people, the Jambandrans especially suffered. Most of them... uh, didn't make the journey, and even fewer have survived to modern day. Rhiainfellt's the only Jambandran I've ever met. And I imagine that has to be pretty lonely. Not knowing anyone who looks like you. Not knowing your history or culture or where you came from. It also doesn't help that she can't use magic— just another thing that makes her stick out like a sore thumb amidst her family. And with all of that in mind, I wish I could like her, but... I dunno. She's depressing. She's really resentful, and I think she should give her mom more credit sometimes. I don't think she feels the way Rhiainfellt thinks she feels about her at all. Then as for Nick... kind of self explanatory, yeah? Just about any person associated with the Mirror World is nothing but trouble... and people allied with Dark Mind especially. I don't care if Nick's dads think Dark Meta Knight is nice. He's a monster! And the less time I spend around him the better. Sorry, Nick. Both that I can't hang out and that you have to be subjected to that buffoon. It's not your fault your parents have bad taste.

This is another ask that only ended up being so much about Peony and more about the world she lives in and the people surrounding her, but it was still fun to answer. I like and have thoughts on all of my fankids, even if she's the favorite.

I think I may be the only person out there who ships Daroach/Rick. To my credit, it started as a joke. But then I got... invested somehow? In my Kirbyverse they grew up together, were partners in crime for a bit, then had a messy breakup after Rick turned over a new leaf and Daroach didn't. And now they've made amends!

Pick is here too, of course, because there is NOTHING I cannot stand more than when people remove a canonical female love interest from the equation to ship her more popular partner with a guy. Not that Rick is a popular character or that it happens to him. But it's about the PRINCIPLE of the thing, y'know? And Rick has two hands.

Also, yes, before anyone gets on my case for it: DMK was involved with The Sectonia Incident in my interpretation of the Kirby universe. I think people can get... really weird about people writing the character that way sometimes?

There's this pretty aggravating trend I've noticed in the fandom where something that is not canon will get misconstrued as Objectively Canon (I.E DMK being involved with that, Void Kirby theory, ETC), then people who are annoyed with this misinfo will go around saying canon actually Objectively Disproved that thing. Which... it did not do, either. Canon makes no comment on these situations. There is no "correct" interpretation. Just let people have fun, man.

So, yeah! I think DMK deserves to be a little bit of a dick. As a treat. I think portraying him as not the instigator of that incident, but rather a loyal servant who helped Dark Mind get away with all of that makes him an interesting parallel to Taranza himself. I like writing it that way, so it's canon to my Kirbyverse and by extension the world Peony lives in.

Which is all to say Peony's not a fan of him. Even though, as usual, she's sort of simplifying the situation. DMK is not a wonderful person, but he's no bogeyman, either.

Rhiainfellt is interesting. I originally came up with her based on the simple idea of "Awww... wouldn't it be cute if one of the Mage Sisters adopted a Jambandran like Hyness adopted them all those years ago?" But the more I've fleshed her out the more... weird and messed up she's become. I think she has an American Psycho monologue going on in her head at all times.

A troubled kid for sure. You know it's bad when even the girl who talks to dead people thinks someone's a little too much. Ohhhhh, poor thing. 😔

Susie: What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I think Susie deserves to be a lil unhinged. It’s a very specific balance and one tip makes it something I dislike, but I love it when ppl make Susie a good person, just would also make lethal weapons. Would plan to torture her enemies but also go get her nails painted with the girls. Like I said, very specific balance.

Susie: What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

The answer’s p obvious. Thanks to a mistranslation a lot of people make Susie heartless, a jerk, or do things I’d rather not say on this post. I hate that a lot. Is Susie perfect? Absolutely not. She has layers to her character however.

Susie: What's a headcanon you have for this character?

I have already shared a few headcanons, like her being a cyborg or a romance fan. Those are headcanons I adore. I also think that, like Taranza, she’s a hopeless romantic. She loves the idea of falling in love. She just doesn’t have a lot of time to do so.

Susie: What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

I don't think I felt much for Susie when I first saw her. Most likely because my first impression of her was... certain art. That traumatized me a bit. Nowadays, I love her. She has daddy issues and definitely a kill count. But she's also sweet and makes lil robot gifts for her friends. She's great.

Susie: What would be their three closest friends out of the notable cast?

I'm a big fan of the Star Allies Wave Three trio (that being her, Magolor and Taranza) all being close. So def them, Susie would probably also be close with Ribbon. Due to a shared interest in girly things.

Magolor: What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

Magolor's a pretty universally loved character in this fandom. So a lot of content of Magolor I end up adoring. If I had to pick a specific thing, I think him interacting with other characters (like trying to sell Elfilin or trying to teach Kirby) are my favorites. I love character dynamics!

Magolor: What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

This one doesn't irk me as much as the answer I had for Susie. I can handle this one pretty well. But still, it does annoy me when people either A. try to justify his actions and make him innocent lil blorbo, or B. Make him not learn a single thing from his mistakes.

Idk I like when characters are complex, so when fandoms simplify a character it can annoy me. This one's not as bad as Susie's though. If you see him as irredeemable or innocent I do not hate you! We can coexist and be friends.

Magolor: Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I think I said this before, but 100% Marx. They're both chaotic, they've both betrayed Kirby, and canon implies they know each other. I tend to get more attached to ships/character dynamics that have some canon backing, so I like Marx and Mags. Platonic, romantic, I don't care. I just think the grape and the cat are a fun duo.

Magolor: What's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Magolor is probably my favorite character I've written. I love when I write his shopper side. Justifying why he sold his soul for micro transactions, announcing a sale before he disappears in Stuck With The Lor. Also writing him as a cat.

Idk if I hate anything about writing Magolor. He's a fun guy to write!

Magolor: What's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?

I love it when other writers give Magolor a backstory or reasoning behind wanting the Master Crown. I'm a psych major, so when past affects a character's decisions in the present?? Peak. I did this in Stuck With The Lor too. Magolor hated being powerless as a kid, so he wanted all the power. Only for that to put him in the same position he was in when younger Only a lot worse.

Magolor: Favorite picture of this character?

I just really like the composition of this one. The colors, the hints of every phase of the final boss. I think it's one of my favorite Celebration Pictures in Star Allies (besides the Taranza one. You know which one I'm talking about)

I've decided to make a little list of all my Kirby AUs and put it here, because... why not people might like them.

As you'll quickly notice, all three of these focus on Adeleine. Why? I like Adeleine a lot. She's my favorite character. Out of the three I have one that is super fleshed-out and devloped, one that I know pretty much how it goes, and one that just kinda... sits there.

So, here they are, just past that read more button! So there isn't just a whole wall of text.

(Also because one of them [the very first one] is pretty dark.)

Ravagers of the Stars- By far my favorite and the most expanded upon AU I've made. RotS takes place in a universe where Kirby has turned into an evil void-creature, and looks like a much more horrifying version of 0². Many of his friends went into the strange dimesion where he resides, and tried to fight him to bring him back, but... none of them made it. Magolor, Taranza, and Susie were the only three who never tried to fight him, and stayed at Castle Dedede. Four years after Kirby’s change and the deaths of everyone else, a mysterious person only calling themselves Nightmare Knight shows up, wearing a giant suit of armor all in black with a dragon head helmet, white glowing eyes, long claws gloves and boots, and a cape that resembles the wings of a carousel pegasus. They wield a long harpoon with a head made out of a Crystal Shard. The four of them travel across Dream Land, finding parts to fix up the long unused Lor Starcutter, remaking it into the Lor Haltmann, as Susie has added her own technological flair to it. They use the new Lor to enter the dimension where Kirby lies in wait, but before that, have a meeting knowing they might die like everyone else. Nightmare Knight removes their helmet, and… it’s Adeleine. Her left eye now has a large scar over it and she can’t open it entirely anymore. She explains what happened to her. Something about her human spirit kept her alive enough to crawl out of the cave-like entrance, where she was found by Ribbon and immediately taken to Ripple Star. Using the healing properties of the Great Crystal, she was healed, leaving her stomach a gaping hole of exposed gore, and her eye scarred. She was given a Crystal harpoon, since Crystal Shards are one of the very few ways to truly destroy void-made beings. She went to Neo Star, and found the suit of armor she wears now deep below the surface, and lived there, training and waiting for the day she could go back and save Dream Land. Now knowing all that, they enter the realm Kirby created for himself, and battle against him. Nightmare Knight (as she hates being called her real name now,) leaps from the deck of the Lor and skewers Kirby, turning him into stardust. She’s quickly picked up by Magolor and brought back on board as they escape the crumbling pocket dimension. The four are horrified that they had to do what they did, but citizen of Dream Land herald them as heroes. Magolor realizes there’s darkness lurking in every timeline out there, and the four of them are well equipped to take care of it. He makes them all matching outfits, all blue and gold with a winged, four pointed star shape somewhere on them. Nightmare Knight gets to keep her gloves and boots now in new dark blue, and a dragon mask/helmet with actual eyeholes. They agree on the name Ravagers of the Stars, and they travel between timelines, helping wherever they can. They occasionally go back to their timeline, but it’s safe from threats because everything is afraid of Nightmare Knight’s death spear.

RotS is absolutely the most developed. There’s actually a lot more than that (so far I have about four arcs of it in my mind), but I wanna try and keep these short, so I can’t go into all the detail. (Like Ribbon attempting a murder. [On who, I won’t say.])

A Forsaken Painting- What if Kirby… wasn’t the protagonist of Forgotten Land? And what if all of his friends were sucked up into that portal? And what if the person most connected to that place was the one saving everyone? These are questions answered in AFP! All of Kirby’s friends end up being taken to the New World. Kirby is mistaken for a Waddle Dee, and along with Bandee and Marx, used like all the other Waddle Dees. Most of the rest are being used as bait and eventually fuel for Fecto Forgo, and some of the more animal-like ones (Daroach, Taranza, the literal animal friends) have been turned into members of the Beast Pack like Dedede. Adeleine ends up being the hero, and takes up her old DL3 design because she doesn’t want her long smock getting ripped. Instead of fighting with art, she uses a more human-suited (and more dangerous) version of the Toy Hammer. The Beast Pack is much more aggressive towards her, since she’s a human. And everything that would be needed to be solved with Mouthful Mode or a certain copy ability? She’ll just whack it until it works. It’ll work eventually. She hopes. Instead of getting along with Elfilin the whole time, he is extremely distrustful of her until she saves him at Lab Discovera even though he didn’t ask her to because he’d rather be there than with a human.

AFP is fairly similar to Forgotten Land, so there really isn’t that much to say about it. Adeleine is very nervous throughout most of it, but then when going to Wondaria she starts to calm down…. Until she gets to Winter Horns and it’s even worse, because that’s a lot like her old home.

Praefecta Patrya- Parallel President Susie? What about normal President Susie? But she should have a cooler name than just “President”. Susie, having kicked her father out of the company upon her return, decides to conquer Pop Star and robotize all of the notable people. When Kirby and Dedede, the only two who didn’t get caught up in that because they were busy having a Gourmet Race rematch, arrive on the Arc, they’re met by a strange welcome robot trying to shove a brochure in their faces and get their credentials. Dedede is about to whack it off the ledge of the bridge they’re all on, until he realizes it looks a lot like his basically adopted daughter… And it introduces itself formally as “4D3L31N3, but please use ‘4D0’ to preform command actions.” Under that fancy suit and behind those empty eyes is Adeleine, speaking out of a voice box somewhere with prerecorded messages. Dedede lies and says that he and Kirby are delivery men, and she takes them to the lounge, where they can wait for their meeting with the Praefecta. While there, Dedede finds a manual on operating 4D3L31N3 that was left out, and grabs the antenna-like receivers on her head and shuts off the external programming. Adeleine, now back to normal, is horrified that she’s now a partially robotic creature with wires and hands that can turn into various things, from an array of weapons to cleaning spray bottles. Alongside Kirby and Dedede, the three defeat Susie, but are unable to undo any of the robotizing done to anyone.

PP is definitely the least Adeleine-focused one, and is more about Dedede and Susie than anything, but she still plays a major role and gets a cool design. But the poor girl has wires in her skin. And unlike all those memes say, she can’t take them out.

So those are all my Kirby AUs I have so far! I don’t think I’ll come up with more since I’m currently constantly debating what my headcanon backstory for Adeleine is gonna be because I’ll come up with one and then immediately think of a new one the second I start working on writing it.

Daroach: He is just... so fun. Even with how little we get in the games, he just was fun to see and battle - and the fact we get to actually see him fleshed out in a silly but actually sort of in depth way via his dialogue in Mass Attack just makes him all the more endearing; he's a ladies man while being a fucking dork.

Spinni: Gremlin energies. She is small and fast and throws ninja stars and how can you not love how she manages to be cool and chaotic at the same time?

Storo: I want to hug him. But also the damage he deals. Delight cannot describe how happy I am when I get to show him stomping the shit out of enemies when summoned in Star Allies. Look at him go! And he is canonically called a softie.... so he is strong AND kind.

Doc: They really looked at the cute little Squeakers and went "what if one of them was a mad scientist?" and then did it. Well, as much as we can get with limited lore anyways. Really just the fun bit of variety he adds!!

Galacta Knight: His story is so fucked up. So fucked up. I see him and I am so driven to explore everything about him because THERE IS SO MUCH THERE JUST HIDDEN AWAY!!!! The drive and inspiration this orb inspires in me!!!! Living in my head rent free always!!!

Patch: My baby. My beloved. I'm biased cause I created them so like, picking one or even a few things is hard. One thing I suppose would be the fact that even though over the years there definitely have been changes, they are still very much the same at the core. I've tried many different things with them outside a Kirby setting but I always come back to them being this chaotic neutral to evil entity with the same things driving them and like... I guess that just feels comforting, almost? That the character has remained the same despite a bunch of changes... I like that. Like feeling like I'm on the same page as my creations.

Morpho: Morpho is still so mysterious that I am discovering them as I write them; nothing about them is solid and that is fun. I can make shit up and do what I want (this is also my dislike but I'll touch on that in the dislike section). I just have this weird little dude in my hands and that mysterious nature is so fun.

Magolor: I want to marry this egg- In all seriousness. He's cute. He's mischievous. He's smart. He actually got a redemption. I cannot truly tell you one thing I like or love because I adore everything about him. He is by far my favorite character in the series and the bias I feel is unreal. He is my little meow meow. My problematic fave. He can and will commit crimes and I will support him.

Bon: No thoughts head empty. Baby.

Dark Taranza: Ngl one of my top favorite things about DT is how they look. Like, I want them and want to be them. And I definitely write them with that in mind. Obv I don't want to be an arguably evil ruler but like, the vibes, yknow?

Dark Meta Knight: He's an evil asshole that does not give up and I respect him for that. I love edgy characters and he is no different. Exploring the mirror world starts with him and I'm sitting here holding in my hands all these ideas and lore thanks to him existing!!!

DISLIKES

Daroach: He is... so hard to write consistently. It's mostly a skill thing, but he exudes confidence that I naturally do not have so I'm constantly at odds when writing him like... am I appealing to this somewhat pompous but still caring leader or am I writing an asshole that is clearly faking it to make it? I Can't Tell. And like... the fact that he has such conflicting vibes sometimes leave me sitting there squinting at him.

Spinni: She shares a lot of personality traits with Patch at times but... it feels more obnoxious, almost, coming from her? And like, that's the point, she is supposed to have her times being childish and obnoxious. And I enjoy that she is! Again, this is a issue with my own writing confidence.

Storo: He is kinda... boring, almost? Just because he is a mostly normal dude. Kind and caring and the big muscly guy... but it is really hard for me sometimes to go deeper than that. Part of my skill, and lack of canon info, and overall just struggling to gain a lot of inspiration with how little I am given from a design perspective... mind you, I still absolutely love him and wouldn't write him if I didn't want to! Just sometimes I sit here looking at him and go... yeah you sure are existing, bud.

Doc: Similar issues with Storo and most characters I like in that I just have so little to work with coming from canon. I like this sometimes, but other times it makes things really really hard. At least he has an interesting design but also,,, in that I have a guy that I don't feel smart enough to write orz

Galacta Knight: Grabs him. He's a fuckening.... idiot sometimes and another consistency issue cause we get So Little in canon (the most we get is in a non canon game AND REALLY BEYOND HIS INCLUSION IN STAR ALLIES WHERE HE GETS EATEN BY MORPHO HE IS NOT A CANON CHARACTER WHICH AAAAAAAAAAAH-) despite his potential and I'm just. Shaking and vibrating cause I want to make him cool but realistic but he's so old and out of touch and it all mixes to make this fucked up man whose existence is really really hard for me to grasp coherently cause I have so many thoughts all the time!!!!

Patch: Literal problematic fave. Patch, with their canon story but even on here, has some very bad things that they do and I cannot express them to their full extent without getting in trouble and it just. Shakes fists. I wish I could be attached to an OC who isn't like them but I just can't. It's boring. But I still feel stifled when writing them cause of that.

Morpho: Everything about them is vague and my ideas, while some solid, are also mostly vague and fluid so while I enjoy writing them, I am super nervous about it because you guys are getting surprises at the same time I am. There is so much possibility which is fun but also frustrating.

Magolor: Taps my fingers together.... genuinely cannot think of something I don't like about him. Even his bad traits I love. My dislike is I cannot write how much I love him or portray him the way I see him because if I did that it'd be insufferable.

Bon: They are listed as a muse but... that's mostly because they act outside of Patch sometimes? So I guess a dislike is that... I dunno where I rank them in regards to muse or NPC. I need more time to flesh them out in my mind. I gotta rotate them in the microwave for awhile, let em cook, yknow?

Dark Taranza: I have very little to go with with them since their place in canon (non canon?) does not line up at all so I get frustrated trying to come up with stuff sometimes cause I am just... battling my own self doubts about telling canon to fuck off (despite me doing a lot of that with my interpretations in general) while trying to keep to whatever the character is... even if what we have isn't a lot.

Dark Meta Knight: Similar with Patch in that I'm never gonna be able to write and express him the way I want because it just... isn't palpable to a lot of people. And again, I still get most of what I like about him across and enjoy him and am excited to write him more since I haven't really had a chance to.. but I know that I won't get to be as mean with him as really fits.

003 Dedede

How I Feel About This Character:

King Dedede holds a permanent position in my top 5 favorite Kirby characters and I want everyone to know that my top 5 in a series this great and with so many amazing characters...well, getting a spot there is a really big deal.

For one, his character design is nearly perfect. Like, Kirby obviously has the perfect character design. Just beautifully simple and flawless. I'd probably rate Magolor second for excellent use of simple shapes, colors, patterns, and silhouette, but Dedede is third. He rocks the RBY color scheme and is a delightful combination of circles and rounded triangles. If you've never drawn him before, I recommend it. He's a character that is actually FUN to draw. Just like Kirby!

(But I also love people experimenting with him. Feathery Dedede++)

We're obviously all big Kirby fans here on Kirby-Tumblr, but I want to give a shoutout to "The Subspace Emissary" from Smash Bros Brawl, which really should have been everyone's wake up call to what King Dedede was -really- like. The way he feigns being on the villains side when he ends up being the damn hero of the story who literally saves all the fighters from being wiped out forever by Tabuu, hello?!?

Also his sliding hug tackle when he sees Kirby again! Cutest thing ever. I could watch it 100 times. I probably have...!

Any/All the People I Ship Romantically With This Character:

Already mentioned I have Dederanza feels in the Taranza ask. Let's see, I mentioned in my Kirby general series ask that I also ship MetaDede so might as well talk about that?

MetaDede is something I hadn't actually seen in the games -I'd- played that much (I only picked the ship up after being alerted to some of the stuff in the later games.) I thought it came from the anime, tbh! I'm fairly low-key about it, but I think it's neat. I really enjoy monarch x vassal and they are in no way your average king and knight, and actually end up bonding over their shared experiences with KIRBY of all things, which is pretty hilarious! Anyway, there's so much MetaDede in the fandom that I rarely feel the need to talk about it, but having them fight at each other's side/back-to-back to defend Dream Land is the A++ quality I look for in this particular ship.

...That said, I do want them to play chess together sometime. (Man, you cannot believe how I screamed when I saw in the Planet Robobot opening cutscene that chess playing Dedede was real. Chess-playing Dedede! Ahhhh!!)

My Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship For This Character:

Dedede and Adeleine. The protective pseudo-sibling (?) relationship they have is one of those low-key amazingly heartwarming things going on in the background of Kirby.

I have a scrap of a comic idea written down where time passes VERY strangely on Dream Land, and so, in this particular story idea, Ado is actually Adeleine's grandmother, and she tells young Adeleine that should she -ever- get in trouble or need anything, go to the king. "He'll take care of you, just like he's taken care of our entire family till now." That is, in a nutshell, how I see them and why I adore them.

But also King Dedede and the Waddle Dees and Doos all the residents of Dream Land. Even in the chaotic and brain-breaking Kirby manga by Hikawa-sensei, Dedede still has a good rapport with his sovereign subjects.

My Unpopular Opinion About This Character:

I think everyone being tired of "mean ol' King Dedede!" is a popular opinion, at least, it should be, so... Hmm, I don't know where this falls, but one of the reasons I love King Dedede so much is that he ISN'T perfect? Like, I recall hearing once upon a time that the stories say the Arthurian knight Lancelot had the healing touch not because he was a perfect human being, but because he accepted his flaws?

King Dedede LIKES being in charge! He's got a huuuge appetite, and he likes being pampered. (Heck, who doesn't?!) He wants to win against Kirby when the two are competing. (Not enough to set up him, but in an actual fair competition.) He can have all these traits and still be a hero. I don't want a flawless Dedede who is free from snark and never loses his temper or accidentally (oops) misjudges people and other character flaws. I want a Dedede who can do these things and then come around!

Oh...and also I don't headcanon him as being particularly older than the rest of the gang?? ("Kirby is in his 10s, Dedede is in his 40s" stuff is just not for me, thx.) Maybe it's because my older sibling always picks Dedede in Smash (while I always pick Kirby) but I'm not super into "Dedede Dad" either? (...Well, "Dedede Dad" with the Waddle Dees is okay. I just have a limit I hit with that stuff.) I can see where people get the idea of an age gap from, and there's a size difference to boot, but I just see them as closer in age than most? It makes their "destined (friendly) rivals" thing better if they're not 20+ years apart, y'know. Dedede is not the team's "grizzled old man veteran" to Kirby's "idealistic young hero" (that role goes to Meta Knight if anything!) he's right there with Kirby on the field.

Annnd last unpopular (?) opinion: I don't necessarily mind Dedede being damsel'd. WITH the corollary that he gets to have his hero moment after. (Or that they, you know, switch it up RtDL style and let him be a hero from the beginning.) That is to say, I don't think it never needs to happen again. This is a highly personal thing, but as bigendered peep who grew up with so.much. female-in-distress in media, as long as we're going to get "save person in danger!" fiction (and it's a good trope in a bottle, so we will) I am totally okay with the big tough guy being the "person in danger." Cliches are gonna cliche, so give a peep some role-reversal so I stop feeling crazy inside, thx!

One Thing I Wish Would Happen / Had Happened With This Character in Canon:

I have never seen KRBAY. I don't really want to. But, as I mentioned in my Taranza ask and again here, I am big on loyalty dynamics. And I guess in the anime, Meta Knight was -literally- a knight of the kingdom? Whereas in game canon, he seems to be more of a mercenary/leader of a para-military force? (I mean, Dedede was said to have give fragments of the broken Dream Rod to his most loyal allies so obviously he has a long standing relationship with Meta Knight) but anyway, what I am getting at is that I would have a LOT of fun with a Meta Knight who is officially sworn to Dedede's service. At least for a little bit!

Oops. That turned into more of a "what do I wish happened to Meta Knight in canon."

Speaking of Meta Knight, I wouldn't have minded if we got just a little bit more insight into Shadow Dedede? Like, we know Shadow Kirby is a trickster and a coward, and DMK is ruthless and pragmatic instead of noble. And we get some implications that Shadow Dedede was...maybe never -rescued- from one of his earlier possessions (?!?) but very little on what makes him a reflection of Dedede.(*)

...Oh yeah. MORE MERCH PLEASE! I want to have more Dedede in my home but his majesty just gets real bottom of the barrel stuff and it's so sad. Like, okay, no one is as cute as Kirby and Waddle Dee. I get it. But they make Kirby seasonal collabs with Waddle Doos and Gordos and Scarfies and yet no Dedede? Puh-lease.

Favorite Friendship For This Character:

Kirby. Honestly, a big part of my "unpopular opinion on Kirby character ages" is because I really, really, really, really REALLY like Kirby and Dedede's friendly rivalry/ "two heroes working the scene from different sides" dynamic and I massively prefer that to pretty much any other relationship they could possibly have.

I was playing Forbidden Land with the fam and my sibling commented that Dedede's mid-boss fight roar in the Ice Castle stage felt almost like he was shouting to Kirby, "Where HAVE YOU BEEN?!" and ugh, I got so many feels from that idea.

...Forgotten Land is really good for the Dedede+Kirby dynamic...

What if Kirby had a traditional fighting game?

Listen, I know I should’ve done more “FNF fighting game characters” but i doubt anyone cared for that, and even then I lost a bit of interest, so if you actually cared sorry about that, you can still come up with whatever you want for the characters I didn’t talk about!

That being said, I think all Kirby fans here know Kirby Fighters 2. Personally speaking most of it was just the same as Kirby Fighters Deluxe BUT there were five playable Dream Friends. FIVE. Priority to the Copy Abilities a bit too high, isn’t it HAL? Sometimes it feels a bit barebones if you ask me. So I’m here to discuss what would a non-platform Kirby fighting game be.

THE GAMEPLAY

It’s the same as any basic fighting game, there isn’t really that much that the Kirby franchise can offer to make the genre a bit more varied, and that’s mostly due to the fact that Kirby makes friends wherever he goes and combat is pretty much straightforward in these platforming games, the crazy stuff comes from learning specific moves with each copy ability/character in the games and that’s also true for this game.

THE PLOT

I have quite a few ideas for how this can go:

-It’s a “what if” re-telling of Kirby Star Allies where Hyness’ ritual (somehow) also causes space-time rifts across the entire universe to be generated, pulling in Kirby villains from previous games but also allies, which would ALSO explain Dream Friends in the game’s canon a bit more properly.

-It happens in an AU. Plot would basically be Kirby Battle Royale’s but instead of shooting a loadshit of Kirbies onto Kirby, Dedede would just call upon all of their friends to fight for that cake before things escalate and Dedede loses control of the tournament to greater evils, forcing him to work with Kirby to stop the threat, be it old or new.

-Another AU idea but this time it’s original/based on Milky Way Wishes. Galactic NOVA appears every thousand years above Pop Star’s skies, and everyone tries to fight for the right to get the wish. Villain wouldn’t necessarily be ONLY Marx though, most of the Kirby villains could easily win against him if they get to NOVA and get their wish granted. Which means yes, all plots happen at once and Kirby has to deal with everyone at once.

-The least interesting idea: it’s Kirby Fighters 2′s plot but without tag team duos and with all Kirbies replaced with the roster.

THE ROSTER

Now we’re about to have some fun.

RETURNING CHARACTERS: The Dream Friends (and Kirby, of course)

-First up, all Dream Friends are coming back. You don’t even need to change their movesets that much, just add/tweak things, but just for funsies (and for a specific reason too) we’ll also give them specific copy abilities or more than one to categorize them.

-Kirby is the specific reason. He has the same moveset as his Smash Bros incarnation, although he incorporates more copy abilities (and also super powerful stuff like the Star Rod that he usually uses in endgame fights) in it now due to being a traditional fighting game. And yes, he still has his inhale. Using it will have the inhale be replaced by another move in-game, the closest one to a “neutral special” in the opponent’s arsenal. His copy ability is therefore, Smash Bros. And since the game has multiple super moves, we can make his gimmicks from the Kumazaki games the super moves: his level 1 would be a random Super Copy Ability from Return to Dreamland (cutscene is random everytime but damage is always the same), his level 2 would be using the Robobot Armor to stomp foes around, ending with a giant ground pound/fist to the ground and his level 3 is Hypernova Kirby due to the inhale being one of his most unique properties.

-Meta Knight and Dedede will also have heavy Smash influences but they’ll also use techniques from most of their boss fights, such as Meta Knight splitting himself in four clones temporarily for an attack or Dedede actually pulling out an axe instead of his hammer for some attacks based on his Triple Deluxe incarnation. Their copy abilities would formally be Sword and Hammer but with heavy Smash Bros inspiration. Meta can also call in for the Meta Knights to help him in one of his unique super moves. They’d all be there except for Sailor Dee and Captain Vul (one’s an alternate costume and the other is never seen outside of dialogue text).

-Bandana Waddle Dee’s moveset incorporates both Spear and Parasol, but due to the Spear being his most used tool he’ll be categorized with that.

-Marx is the first character with Unique as its own copy ability due to his arsenal being entirely based on his boss fight. Inhaling Unique characters doesn’t always allow Kirby to get copy abilities but when it happens he usually has their most basic move replacing the inhale. Gooey is in the same situation, but i have no idea what would Kirby get from him as an ability since he’s technically player 2 in the Dark Matter trilogy’s first 2 games. Rick, Kine and Coo would technically be categorized as Unique only because they have Fire, Water and Wind in their moveset. You could say they’d be stance characters while Marx is a zoner and Gooey a rushdown character.

-Dark Meta Knight is categorized as Mirror, and Adeleine (with Ribbon as an assist of course) is Artist. Daroach would be Animal, which is missing since its debut in Squeak Squad, as far as I can remember, but he naturally still retains his moveset of calling the Squeaks to help him.

-It’s pretty easy to categorize Magolor as ESP, and Taranza as Spider, while I have no idea what would Susie’s ability be even. Spark? She is mostly around in the Robobot Armor to be fair. The Three Mage-Sisters would be treated equally to the Animal Friends

THE NEWCOMERS

-NAGO, CHUCHU & PITCH: The other set of Animal Friends. I theorize a moveset revolving around the Cleaning ability like in Star Allies would be easy to make, although it can also incorporate moves from other abilities that have been in Dream Land 3.

-CHEF KAWASAKI: I think it’s safe to say this one is pretty easy to do just like the returning Dream Friends. He has a unique moveset in comparison to Chef Kirby that also has him use Kirby’s Final Smash from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

-LOLOLO & LALALA: Aside from pushing boxes and Gordos they can be the Ice Climbers of the game, and most importantly one of their super moves could have them fuse into their original form in the anime to reference that further.

-SHADOW KIRBY: A clone (in terms of moveset) for Kirby that lacks the inhale ability and has more attacks based on his appearances in Amazing Mirror (and also on Kirby’s unique ability to split in four in these games) and the Kirby Fighters spinoffs. Simple as it is.

-THE MIDBOSSES: They all play the same as their fights too, so doing a paragraph for each of them would be a bit redundant. I chose to add minibosses in because most of them are pretty iconic among Kirby enemies and some of them are also technically friends of Kirby’s. I picked Bonkers (whose coconut throwing and some special moves could make him different enough from Dedede if you ask me), Mr. Frosty (also because we don’t have an Ice-based character in the game), Buggzy (which I can see being the ultimate grappler), King Doo (because we don’t actually have a Waddle Doo in the roster and he’s technically not only their king but also the most unique of them) and Grand Wheelie (look, I like Wheel as an ability ok? it’s like playing as Sonic in a Kirby game)

-KNUCKLE JOE: Taking stuff from both his Star Allies moveset and his Assist Trophy from Ultimate PLUS a few references to the anime and you have the ultimate Shoto character in the Kirby franchise. Ryu mains, this is the character for you.

-GIM: Look, my three favorite abilities are Yo-Yo, Wheel and ESP, in no particular order, so I HAD to include him and the Grand Wheelie. Magolor covers for ESP enough. This lil fella looks more unique than most of the generic Kirby enemies and even among the copy ability ones he’s always been a bit of an oddball due to being a robot. The trickshots you can do with this copy ability make Gim perfect to camp, so he’d be a pretty good zoner as well.

-TAC: He’s been a Helper in Super Star where he also has an unique moveset. Expanding on it and on Tac being generally a copy ability thief could mean more copy abilities can be implemented in a moveset, probably even more than what Kirby can do. Also his design just screams potential to me.

DLC FIGHTERS

WAVE 1: Spinoff Dream Friends

Cuz these guys have been done dirty by Star Allies’ devs. Elline would be the other Artist character in the game and call for Claycia’s assistance in specific attacks. Prince Fluff would play mostly just like Kirby himself did in Kirby’s Epic Yarn and implement specific transformations in some attacks, ending with the tank one from the end of that game. Then we have Gryll. If you know how to make a Tetris/Puyo Puyo based character in a fighting game then good for you, I absolutely don’t know how. What I KNOW however is that she has a float like Peach’s in Smash Bros and I-No’s in Guilty Gear.

WAVE 2: Dream Villains

These guys would all play exactly like their boss fights. Hyness and Sectonia would remain mostly unchanged while Haltmann in terms of moveset is the same as Susie, just without every non-Robobot move that she has.

WAVE 3: Clash of Blades

THAT’S RIGHT, IT’S ALL ANIME SWORDFIGHTERS. They all pull from their boss fights, but Morpho Knight is gonna be a bit more unique compared to Galacta, Dark Meta and Meta Knight, having in the swordfighter equivalent of Akuma’s Raging Demon. Meanwhile, Dark Matter Swordsman and Galacta Knight are completely faithful to the source material, but they’d probably be a bit nerfed due to Galacta’s universe-breaking powers. (you can bet that if we get the remaining legendary heroes who sealed Void Termina in future games they’d be their own separate Wave 5 DLC pack)

WAVE 4: Revival of Old Faces

Nightmare and Drawcia are back and they’re here to stay! Their movesets don’t really need that much changes. Void however is an entirely different beast. He’d be a mix of Kirby, both Zero incarnations and Dark Matter. His design wouldn’t just be giant orb that switches between Kirby and Dark Matter faces, he’d be Kirby-sized and with legs and stubby lil arms like the pink puffball. And you can bet your ass he’d be broken as fuck.

SKINS

If a character’s appearance changed across the series’ history (like Marx Soul, Girl Blob Gooey, Shoppe Magolor, Mecha Knight, Dark Taranza/Taranza in the Super Kirby Clash games, Masked/Shadow Dedede, Anime!Knuckle Joe, Parallel/Pres. Parallel Susie, EX versions and so on) they’d just be an alternate skin/palette swap for the specific character. Multiple characters of the same species with little changes (like a normal Waddle Dee or Sailor Dee, or literally all Kirby colors including Keeby) are the same. I’m also debating on how Dark Mind would be a skin for Nightmare or if there’d be a skin inspired by him for the Dark Matter Swordsman. Zero and Zero Two would probably be turned into palette swaps/outfits for Void (imagine a white Kirby cosplaying as Zero Two that’d be so cute lol).

ATTACKING ASSIST CHARACTERS

Characters who appear in other characters’ attacks. Like the aforementioned Squeaks, Meta Knights and Claycia. Normal Dark Matter would appear in DM Swordsman’s attacks in some capacity outside of the eye laser and the Gordo Throw would return from Dedede’s previous Smash incarnations alongside the Waddle Dee Throw from Brawl. And naturally Magolor can call in the Lor Starcutter for one of his super moves. I am actually considering giving Tac the ability to throw random items/enemies at opponents, with the Bomber being one of these. It’d be a very RNG attack with the Bomber being the best outcome, blowing on the opponent’s face.

HELPERS

All characters in the game can be called on for an Helper attack, that can help you in some form against the opponent by either damaging or tampering with the opponent or by having you get healed or with some buff. Outside from the playable roster enemies that give you copy abilities would also be Helpers, but the specific ones I’m not so sure on.

BOSSES

Characters you can fight in Arcade mode, in Story mode or in a specific Boss mode. There’d also be a Ganon’s Fury (Hyrule Warriors) inspired mode where you’d play as the bosses pitting them against each other. I specifically picked Dyna Blade, Whispy Woods, Landia, Star Dream, Kracko, Great Edge, Pyribbit, Ice Dragon, Fire Lion, Masher, Grand Mam, Metal General, Kibble Blade and Pon & Con.

STAGES

There’d be quite a lot of stages, but I haven’t thought out specific ones except for Green Greens, Butter Building, a Ripple Star stage, one for Dedede’s castle with stage cameos by Tiff, Tuff and Escargoon from the anime and every final boss’s fighting arena.

THE MUSIC

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is gonna be nothing compared to this one. We’re getting all the important music from all pre-Kumazaki games, all music from Kumazaki games and spinoffs, and online arrangements with focus on orchestral (Desolo Zantas), metal (GaMetal, of course) and EDM (Acid Notation, Qumu and various others), including stuff like Itoki Hana’s vocal arrangements. We’re going all out on this one.

How I feel about this character:I love Kirby! who doesn’t love Kirby! He’s the best and he’s everyone’s friend. :D

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: I feel like personally, I see Kirby as a young child, so I really don’t ship him with many characters because I think of the others as either older teens or adults for the most part. But I think Fluff is a kid too, and Kirby/Fluff is so adorable oh my god. It’s so cute and good. I have yet to see any reason to not ship it, so I ship it.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Kirby’s two dads are Meta Knight and Dedede and these are the best non-romantic relationships for Kirby ever.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I truly don’t think there’s anything unpopular I think about Kirby. I’m really, really bad playing as him in Smash though. So he’s not really one of my favorite picks for that.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:I wish we’d be given more of his backstory canonically but I feel like that’s probably never going to happen and I accept this.

Favorite friendship for this character:Kirby is friends with EVERYONE and it’s SO GOOD but I really like thinking of him being buddies with Taranza. Because Kirby is quiet and so is Taranza and they’d be great friends!

My crossover ship:I still don’t really have a lot of Kirb ships but I entirely think it’s possible that he’d be cute paired with Hero from T/P/O/H because they’re really similar in terms of personality. (Don’t get me started I will gush about their similarities forever)

Star Dream! Love me a giant evil robot, the design slaps, and the battle music still hits me hard. Especially when listening to GaMetal's cover, it gives me life.

Taranza! Beloved spider man, absolutely adorable, always makes me emotional whenever he is upset over Sectonia (which is p much all the time unfortunately orz)

Meta Knight! He's The Husbando of the Kirby series and I am not immune. Whether it is in the games or the anime I just appreciate his character; though anime Meta is especially close to my heart cause he is constantly gaslighting everyone and it is the funniest thing ever. If he isn't using the braincell, no one is.

This is definitely cheating, but just, insert the entire cast of Crystal Shards here. I can't choose one favorite! Adeleine and Ribbon and Queen Ripple are all very beloved to me in equal amounts! And hell, even the bosses! HR-H, Pix, Miracle Matter and Zero Two? I cannot pick a favorite out of them. Yes, I am excluding a couple of the bosses because they are not ones that I care about AS much, but my point stands: All of the Kirby and the Crystal Shards cast. They get lumped into one cause it'd be only them on this list otherwise.

Dark Meta Knight! Like Meta Knight but edgier. He lives in my head rent free and encourages me to make horrible decisions.
