I dont know if this is something youd want to hear, but i absolutely love how during the beehive quest, brad is constantly emasculated and put down for being ugly and fat and bald and worthless and everything a man shouldnt be. But then during the campfire cutscene right after, Queen tells him hes hot. Not in a pitying compliment way, but in a way that someone actually believes in and likes about him.

I just thought that everything that was said to brad during that quest was a culmination of everything that has been said to him growing up, and that hes said to himself as well. And that someone saying he actually thinks hes hot... he needed something like that.

i forever love love queen's campfire scene esp when you get it right after the beehive quest. brad faces quite a bit of general 'old and bald' stuff in the game. and brad's general silence makes it kinda hard to know what he feels? i think in most cases we assume as players that brad is cold and stone faced. which i dont think is wrong. but the new dialogs, and especially in queen's, do show how stuff gets to him.

there is a very long line of emasculation and toxic masculinity in Brad's life. Marty and his grandfather push it so hard-- a lot of the emasculation can be seen in Brad's flashbacks/new dream. Brad is put down a *lot* in that way and we see it again with that quest. (and that weird island. place? that weird place where he also has to put on the dress? that whole thing was weird in another way lol. but it still brings up the idea).

queen is very straight forward and has no issue throwing down the compliments-- i think its something he is genuine about because hes a gay middle aged man living in a world of other middle aged men. and no one in olathe is gonna fall in that conventional attraction category, esp considering the state of the world. no ones keeping up with shit about their looks lmao. especially stereotypical cis straight men.

brad certainly has a lot of shyness and repression around the topic of sex but i think its easy to assume the series of actual compliments he gets from queen stun him because its the complete opposite of what hed been hearing. anything along the lines of him in some kind of sexual fashion'/context was degrading. but queen's compliments that lean towards sexual interest were actually positive. its probably some of the only words he has heard that can raise his self-esteem because they dont put him down for those aspects.

but yeah i wholly agree. the topic of brad and femininity and masculinity is an interesting one in the context of that quest. because outside of those negative experiences from others we also got to see how hes indulged with 'girly' things for younger girls (lisa and buddy). which i think is cute and lovely. but knowing one of those situations, with lisa, ended with them be reprimanded (to what degree...? who knows) i feel like that also could have been an easy starting point for being closed off with things that were not "masculine" enough... and then further comments in regards to his looks and whatnot-- comments insulting him for what are male features/ugly or even being treated in that sexual aspect as if being seen as feminine and being treated poorly through projected sexism like in the beehive situation............... it would all easily bring bad association to all of that.

Warmth

The story of Berry leaving his family at 16.

Being 16 was hard for anyone, that was a well known fact. But for a young transmasc person with overbearing parents, and ignored mental illness trying to teach his little sibling things while also fighting for what little freedom he can get?

Berry was trying faer best. Berry, with a dull expression, sleep deprived eyes, choppy box dyed black hair and a few piercings that were bound to get infected starting to pop up on faer face, was at faer limit.

He stood over his parents, watching their sleeping faces. Fae could remember a time of tenderness, looking at the peaceful expressions.

It could be the hallucinations, but he swore he could see their faces twist into the warm smiles fae remembers from faer childhood.

But it was their fault he was leaving. Berry wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for them.

He wouldn't, fae wouldn't, he wouldn't.

He wouldn't leave faer sibling, fae wouldn't feel the guilt.

Fae touched their foreheads, his own head being flooded with memories of them- of himself.

The first time his father held him, when they taught faer how to ride a bike, when they let him run the bonfires in the backyard.

And when things when wrong. When he fucked them up.

He felt the disappointment and the feeling of failure that faer own parent felt when fae came out. He felt the coldness that followed, the sympathy.

When the memories were done flooding faer mind, and everything was left cold, fae could feel something wet on his cheeks and the accelerated breathing in his chest.

Fae traveled down to faer brother's room. It was the room you would expect from a 12-13 year old kid.

He looked at the kid, smiling softly in a way that was very rarely seen by anyone in his life. Fae dreaded what fae had to do.

He leaned out, gently moving the hair out of the kid's face and lowering faerself to place a soft kiss on their forehead.

A warmth spread through the kid, behind their eyes. It wasn't the same searing heat that typically devoured the victims of 451.

It was the warmth if a campfire on a warm night, much like the ones Berry used to start for them to roast marshmallows over. It was the warmth of a fireplace on a cold night while the two siblings shared stories to tempt each other to sleep.

It was the warmth of love, unconditional and soft.

Berry was gone the next day, from their memories, from their lives.

They noticed nothing different, but the kid- they noticed that they somehow felt colder, with no memory of the warmth that they were missing.

i love that you've been making a lot of ur avatrice fics a subtle (or very UNSUBTLE) ode to mascs/butch lesbians. and an ode to being queer in general. i think my fave things to read lately have been works like that; where the characters aren't just queer, but happy to be queer, relieved to be queer, or saved by being queer. and in terms of gender expression and queerness its something that i've had a hard time reconciling with myself, but the way you explore it through bea is refreshing and helpful for me, someone who's been out for 8 years and still sweats when deciding what shirts to buy myself, or sometimes how to even just walk when i go outside

honestly i never know what like general reactions will be but everyone has been so lovely! i think it's like — fundamentally so important to me that bea was never ever made to be femme! like canonically she's attractive to women in the show!! she has her little slacks!! & she's not like masc/butch explicitly but at the same time i'm like... she's never gotten to choose for herself either! & maybe she would! she could if she wanted! a little knight at the campfire, you know

& yah it's hard!! i've been out for over a decade & have gotten to have top surgery & be in a generally v safe & queer city + a wonderful marriage & community & like... i still cry over pants!! it's hard to be in a world that wasn't built for you, no matter how happy it is

- Low stress - Comedy as heck - literally feels like someone telling you a ghost story - AAAAAAAACTING!!!!! - there is a spider during the picnic scene THE CLASSIC! THE OG! MY FAV!!!! This was THE hallween movie to me as a kid- and now i completely get why! It's like watching a stage play where everyone LOVED every scene they were in- the vibes are spoooooky sometimes in an adorably camp way, and then charming and cozy the next! It has so much fun- there are so many lines that are memes to me- like ichabod THROWING himself into bed with "And if I......DIE... before I wake.... BRINGMEBACKTOLIFE!" and Katerina's eyerolling "....assuming I know the horse-" (it makes sense in context i swear) and and and the FUN of seeing Brom Bones 'crushing' a tankered angrily, acting out the strain of it, when you can clearly tell the prop is like, maybe the strength of a soda pop can XD.... But the best part is the stinger ending. How this whole story is ended with the sudden reveal of the REAL headless horseman (maybe?) and how THAT terrifying image is the last thing it leaves the watching kids with- it feels like that last jump scare at the end of a campfire ghost story, the hand reaching out to grab you for one final scream, and I love it. I love this whole thing so much.

Whistle and I'll Come to You, also on archive .org - Slow building stress - Paranoia fuel - There is no way the main character is neurotypical (relatable) - a bedsheet ghost!!!!! YAY! - a few audio startlements but otherwise all gradual scares So this is based off a short story by an old not cool dead guy. It's about finding something in a grave and not heeding the warning label. I read the story years ago and was very pleased by the bedsheet ghost, the idea of feeling like Something Is Coming, and I can say that this adaption is... different, but does very good on setting up the vibes up until the ending. I'm bit let down by how the final bedsheet ghost turned out, and abrupt cut off to the story, but the vibes up till then is really fun to sink into. Some of the cinematography does a good job of making me aware of empty space, the feeling that Something I Can't See might also be in the frame. Spoooky.

The Quarry and How It Handles Jacob, Nick, and Travis

Here’s a “writing a likeable character that does bad things” spectrum with Jacob, Nick, and Travis because i once again have to reiterate that the writing in this game upsets me but i’m too passionate about these characters to leave it alone (really, i love these guys, keep that in mind.) As i will be describing, the writers attempted to make all three characters have a list of gross actions and still be enjoyable, but i have many qualms with how they approached Nick and Travis’ writing in comparison to Jacob’s. Jacob is written pretty well imo. When interacting with other counselors, he tries his best to be entertaining and friendly (similar to how emma also values being entertaining to her peers and youtube audience.) He does silly things like sing and dance to the butterpops theme or use the “beerdar”, is supportive of his friends (such as cheering when Ryan and Dylan kiss or encouraging Nick to get with Abi,) and wants to be helpful/heroic for the others (more on that later.)

 On the other end, he breaks down the car just so he has another chance with emma, leading to most of the events in the game, and generally does irrational things or is needlessly harsh to others when he’s agitated. His positive and negative traits are established in the first few chapters (keep this is mind for Nick and Travis’ analysis’.)

 Later in the game, when confessing to Emma about his sabotage of the van, or during his werewolf transformation, his dialogue makes it clear that he is afraid of worthlessness and being abandoned. In the “bitter” confession dialogue, he claims that Emma views him as a loser. In “remorseful” he states he wanted to spend his time with Emma like they did before the breakup, contrast to Emma stating she still loved him but didn’t want anything more than a summer fling, showing their differences in how they view/deal with attachment (also seen in the campfire and skipping stones scenes, she doesn’t view relationships with as much importance as he does.) In his transformation, Jacob says “stupid boy, summer’s over and you’re nothing, she doesn’t want you, nobody wants you” to himself. Again, he puts a lot of worth into his relationships and being wanted. Hell, for a lot of the game he’s trying to prove his value, like trying to be heroic (running to save Abi and Emma,) the shooting range scene, and his insistence on being a party person (getting the fireworks, being rude to Ryan for not wanting to party, willingly stripping to jump over a fire pit naked, etc.)

He’s insecure, and you see so much of him trying to be on people’s good sides and prove he’s not boring or worthless that it feels awful to hear his werewolf dialogue. He’s a better version of what nick’s writing tried to be.

Nick should have been similar to Jacob, in that he should’ve had his traits *actually* established. The Nick we have in-game doesn’t have much of a character outside of his relationship with Abi and becoming a werewolf. He’s almost a watered-down version of Jacob in that he has the same issue (trying to be a Cool Guy Ladies Love while having insecurities that are explicitly revealed when becoming werewolves) but compared to Jacob, Nick does not get the proper amount of characterization.

i do think the idea that Nick hates women and is an abuser is false and stems from his character not being allowed to be anything more than Abi’s romantic interest. If Nick actually hated women, he would probably have some nasty things to say when Abi corrects him on his pedantic dialogue options. But he doesn’t, he accepts and even likes that Abi knows more than him (not to say misogynistic ppl can’t find intelligence in women attractive, just that the writers of this game would probably make the choice to make him more insulted if he was actually intended to be a misogynist.) We know it isn’t just him trying to suck up to Abi, because in a one-on-one conversation with Jacob, he mentions that part of what he enjoyed when he spent time with Abi was how smart she was.

However, without it being established beforehand what Nick’s insecurities are, his bitter dialogue when infected does make it seem like he’s actually an abusive douchebag. We only really know that Nick’s weakness is opening up to people because of his informational blurb all the characters get, which states “his fatal flaw is an unwillingness to drop his stoic guard and let people in.” With this in mind, his insistence when he’s infected that Abi doesn’t like him back and his attraction becoming hunger is the werewolf-ified version of his struggle to let his guard down and express his emotions. It would’ve been great if we knew that he had these issues! He doesn’t need the same amount of dialogue as Jacob, Nick is a narrative tool for things to get rolling in the story, but some lines that made his worry about how Abi or just anyone perceived him would’ve been better!

Btw, Nick kissing Emma at the firepit isn’t exactly a flaw of his though, because while it was a stupid move and the whole idea was petty, it is an example of how he and Emma have different views on attachment and relationships compared to Abi and Jacob. Nick and Emma don’t have to view kisses like Abi and Jacob do, especially since Abi and Nick have never even discussed their boundaries as they aren’t even together at that point. As Nick said, he just wanted to help Emma make Jacob jealous anyway, and it’s nice that he would admit to Abi that he just saw it as being helpful rather than shying away from saying how he feels at all (look, a kind of good Nick moment!) other positive things about Nick include his genuine interest in Abi’s art and her smarts (as mentioned before.)

His positive traits don’t need to be as obvious as Jacob’s, because he is mostly in the game as a narrative tool for werewolf shenanigans and the reasons for his flaws are what should be focused on. All in all, Nick just needs a little more dialogue that makes his werewolf attitude less gross.

Travis. oooh boy, Travis. i already made a little rant about how his grey-area characterization is moot when the game allows his racist attitude to go undisputed and even supports his ideas. This is my problem with him.

ill get what i thought was good writing out of the way. Travis is a great, interesting character who is very complicated. You’ve probably heard it a million times before. He’s a family man who does his damnedest to protect them, doing illegal things in his efforts to cure them of lycanthropy and keep them out of jail, even with how mistreated he is by them (specifically the abuse he faces by his mother.) Yet, he also relies a lot on Laura, which i also mentioned the dynamic of in this post. i won’t get too into detail here about them because of that and other great posts about them like this one, so we can focus on the big issue.

If you want a character that does bad things and is meant to be redeemed of their actions, or at least the reasons for doing those things and the good qualities outweigh the bad actions, do not let them have a horrible view that is never contested and resolved. Why is Travis allowed to say anti-romani slurs and that not ever be addressed?

As i mentioned in the little rant, his mother also has anti-romani views and this could be why Travis (and the other Hacketts) share the same ideas. Unless the writers just hate romani people (which yknow what, they probably do,) this story should not have been about how the Hacketts want revenge against some “terrible g*psy witch and her feral boy.” It should’ve been about a misinformed family making a terrible mistake (starting the fire,) and looking for undeserved revenge, only for Travis to learn he was in the wrong. Travis already has his little arc about trusting Laura with curing everyone’s lycanthropy over saving his family, why couldn’t he have learned the error of his views on the Vorez’s?

ayyyy Happy Tuesday anon! Honestly whenever I hear ppl say their favourite day of the week is Tuesday, it's like a mission accomplished for me lmao

Arthur

Arthur tends to blame himself when things go wrong. He usually feels like he could’ve done something different or expected the unexpected and salvaged the job somehow.

Arthur stays quiet as you walk over to him, his face hidden in his hands. It takes a while for him to start talking properly, too preoccupied by muttering insults to himself like ‘idiot’ and ‘moron’.

Honestly he’s in a really down mood right now so having you beside him means a lot. He knows you can’t change the outcome of the job but having you close helps him relax. As Arthur pouts and watches the campfire, he takes comfort in your hand slowly tracing up and down his back. He subconsciously leans into you, craving your touch.

Charles

Charles understands that this happens sometimes. He knows it’s no one’s fault and that the job just went wrong. He knows he’s not to blame but when he comes back to camp and has to tell a disappointed Dutch what happened, it’s easy for Charles to slip into the mindset that he messed it up.

Charles is always very grateful for you in times like this. When you ask him how he is, Charles begins telling you about the job, mentioning every detail and not missing a single thing. 

He needs reassurance that he didn’t do anything wrong and he knows you’ll be honest with him. After you both talk about it for a while, Charles smiles and thanks you for being there for him. He really appreciates talks like this and it’s one of the many reasons Charles trusts you so much.

Dutch

Dutch is stressed. With another job gone wrong, that puts more pressure on him and a bigger strain on the next job to go off without a hitch. 

When he gets like this, Dutch normally pushes people away. He doesn’t want anyone to realise he’s stressed and anything but fine. So when you sit down next to him, he puts on a brave face and acts like nothing’s wrong.

As you assure him that everyone has faith and that he can work this out, Dutch lowers his walls. Sighing, he leans into you and rests his head on your shoulder. All he needs is some words of encouragement to make him realize everything’s gonna be ok.

Micah

Micah’s mad. He’s pissed off at everyone but himself, blaming whoever else was on the job for it going so terribly. This leads to a lot of arguments and eventually Micah storms off to the outskirts of camp.

When he sees you walking over to him, Micah gets defensive and snaps at you. But he’s surprised when you didn’t scoff and leave. Instead you stay, which isn’t something Micah’s used to.

He doesn’t talk about it or mention the job in the slightest. Micah hardly says another word but he does take comfort in you being there, eventually sitting down and gesturing next to him as a way to invite you to sit too.

John

John doesn’t like to rant about things that have already happened. As far as he’s concerned, the job’s done, it was a disaster but he can’t change any of that now.

He still does a lot of brooding, acting like he doesn’t care about the job when in reality it starts to annoy him how south it all went. When you first ask if everything’s alright, John brushes it off. He does this a lot, not wanting you to see how much this job has gotten under his skin.

It takes him a while to open up properly but after asking him some questions, he starts telling you about the job and venting his frustration. Afterwards he thanks you for listening, saying how he just wants to forget about it ever happening now.

Javier

Javier puts a lot of pressure on himself to do his best on jobs and he always tries to bring back some sort of valuable goods. But when the job goes completely wrong, he feels like it’s his fault.

He’ll usually spend the next day or two trudging around camp, busy thinking about the job and all the negatives. When you approach, Javier sees it as a welcome surprise. 

One of the best ways to cheer Javier up afterwards is by getting away from camp for a while. He needs a break although he doesn’t realize that. Just spending the day away does a lot of good for him and puts him in a content mood.

Bill

There’s a fifty-fifty chance that Bill might be the reason the job failed but there’s a 100% chance that he gets blamed for it. Even if the job failing had nothing to do with him, he’s seen as the easiest person to blame.

Bill’s pissed off that he’s being used as the scapegoat and stays away from the middle of camp, preferring to be away from the others. When he sees you approaching, he thinks you’re coming over to scold him but surprisingly you comfort him, putting your arm around his shoulders and telling him it’s all going to be ok.

Bill rants about the job and about how frustrating it all is. Sometimes he finds it hard to articulate how he feels but he’s much calmer with you by his side. All Bill wants is someone to actually listen to him and not blame him. He thinks he’s extremely lucky to have that with you.

Sean

When a job Sean’s on goes wrong, he has a tendency to get injured. Whether it’s a bump on the head, a black eye or a sore ass cause he fell off Ennis, he always finds some way to get accidentally injured.

He’s in need of a lot of attention and reassurance that he’s doing good. All Sean wants is to rest his head on your lap and to hear you tell him it’s all ok. Seriously, that is his version of heaven on earth.

The next day Sean decides to spontaneously go rob somewhere, convinced that’ll help put him in high spirits again. And of course, he invites you to join him so he can impress you with how much of a fearless outlaw he is.

so, a game mechanic I, but prolly no one else, would like to see in BotW2 : a… okay, ive been thinking of it as a journey mode, separate from a tourist mode (which also should exist) but basically a setting (or even separate game file, but setting that can be toggled is probably better) that leans a little more into the role playing/endless road trip of BotW and levels consequences for how you treat link and (blease Nintendo) Zelda in game play, because I’m in the camp that likes to make link sleep like a human person sometimes.

But basically, if journey mode is on and you run Link into the ground (no food, no sleep, make homer go crazy constant running, etc) Link suffers.

Don’t eat any of the food you stocked? You lose stamina- and if it goes on too long, you start losing hearts. You could get fancy with how this works or no - no difference between an apple and a meal is easier, but a filling meal might let you go longer before side effects hit, and this would encourage actually using the food you find more. Food heart and stamina loss would be wholly reversed by eating, but without it the stamina won’t replenish like it does after a climb or sprint. Also! It does not have to be stamina food.

Don’t rest? Similar deal, your stamina starts dipping faster and recovering slower, but while you can counter it somewhat with food or potions eventually you start losing hearts that can’t be regained by anything but a good sleep. Resting at a campfire will refill hearts lost to injury but not sleep loss.

Over exerting is the same - sprinting all day loses stamina for the next day, throwing hands with a hinox loses a chunk off a wheel until you rest, throwing hands with a lynel loses… more. Hearts aren’t effected here, but like with not resting only sleep will truely fix it.

There is one exception to the whole “let the kid sleep” thing - a restorative draught is rare to get or make, the sort of thing you save to drink before a boss, but it will restore all hearts and stamina. +❤️ or +⭕️ foods can still grant extra hearts and wheels but they can’t actually restore.

This would all encourage using your supplies, using your horses more, maybe hitching rides with travellers wagons if those are a thing (ooo save wagons from bandits? Or some wagon ppl are the bandits and since you hopped up now you have to escape their camp! How much stuff did you just lose and can you get it back? Or you just get booted off minus your rupees) Some old roads only really stand out if you take it slow so take that a little farther - maybe some things literally only appear if you’re patient enough to find them, certain fairy fountains, ruins hidden by magic from the reckless just as some things can only be found by being reckless enough to ruin something rare.

It’s so easy to wander around this game and just tell yourself a story… this would just add to that a bit.

I'm kinda new here but I've seen so many ppl talk about Levi's guidebook page, referring to it as "the confirmation of what Levi was solely fighting for in the final battle i.e revenge by fulfilling the promise" I'm sorry if this has been pointed out before but as a Levi fan who believes otherwise, I'd love to read ur interpretation. Also u also believe the GB is implying this? I think ppl are having the wrong impression.

Hi! :) Thank you so much! I am glad you liked my meta! English is not my first language, so I try my best to express what I want to say.

Almost everyone agrees that the final guidebook is just an ABSOLUTE hot garbage! xD At this point that no one is taking seriously anymore! xD It straight up contradicts what happens in the manga, has VERY reductive and nonsensical descriptions of the characters and is FULL of errors.

The main reason to why many people have issues with Levi’s part (apart from it having nothing new or because it mainly focused on the promise) is one word that was used in the text that has been translated by some biased people into “obsessed”.

I asked 3 Japanese people (including my teacher) about the word that was used in the text and the meanings that I was given were: (be) dedicated to; have an uncompromising commitment to ; to really focus on; to be determined to; etc. From what I understood, this term is always a headache as it truly depends on what the writer wants to convey and what it “feels” right in the context. "Obsessed” is like, the most reductive reading of that word, and it's the exact word that Er_ris chose to use xD

Japanese is often qualified as vague, and it CAN leave room for interpretation. For example, the word (きれい) Isayama used to say Levi was the opposite of Rorschach could mean "pretty" or "clean" based on the context, but here's the thing: Rorschach is notoriously ugly, so it makes sense that Isayama meant that Levi is "pretty" (and it IS officially translated to "pretty" ), but I have seen MANY Japanese people say that Isayama meant "clean" not “pretty”! This word meaning in the text literally and solely depended on Isayama's intention even causing translators to get confused and translate it to “pretty”! If we look at the context of Levi’s character description in the last gb, the last line mentions that after his final mission, Levi “meets his friends with a calm heart”. Why would Levi be able to meet his friends with a “calm heart” if his entire arc was about him being “obsessed” with a personal goal and revenge?! Is this why he salutes them and they salute him back in the final chapter?! I am 100% sure that the word “obsessed” was not the one that the person who wrote the description wanted to use.

Now let’s stop talking about language translation and focus on Levi in the manga xD Is the gb version Levi the same Levi whom Isayama described as "as an existence more superior to myself" during Levi’s statue reveal just last March?!

You know, when I asked my native Japanese teacher to help me translate Isayama's statement about Levi, she sent me a 4 minute voice note breaking down the terms Isayma used and explaining how much respect the person speaking (Isayama) has for the person he's talking about (Levi). I was embarrassed to tell her that the person he’s speaking about is actually a fictional character lol

Isyama used 頭 の上がらない which literally means “can’t raise someone’s head” but it actually means “can’t raise someone’s head in front someone else for how much respect they have for this person”

Now let’s look at Levi’s actions in the manga to see if we can reach to the same conclusion.

Levi is one of, if not the most, perceptive characters in SNK. In one the official short stories, he was described as a person who is able to “know the true nature of Man”. For Levi, Zeke is a man who cheered with satisfaction as he threw rocks through fifteen year olds. He’s the person who nonchalantly explained to Levi the process of gassing an entire village of unsuspecting civilians and flinging them into an eternal nightmare in order to weaponize their bodies. Zeke’s manipulations are the origin of almost all of Paradis’ problems, whether it’s encouraging Marley to ramp up aggressions or pulling shady shit with Kiyomi, Yelena and the Jaegerists that destabilizes their already vulnerable island. And what’s worse - because we’re reading a story where torn-up characters are often excused by circumstances of coercion or perceived necessity - he doesn’t care. He feels no remorse. He wants to do this. Levi doesn’t know Zeke’s ultimate reasoning of course, but he recognized through the smoke of the campfire a man who doesn’t give a fuck about the wishes and agency of others. Who will force his own will on a race of humans and call it mercy. AND YET, Levi stays with him for  A WHOLE MONTH in the forest bringing him books, drinks and a pillow to sit on. He keeps asking him about what happened in Connie’s village trying over and over to understand him. And then the guy transforms Levi’s own teammates in front of him, forces him to kill them and taunts him with their suffering. Levi perceives a person who’s arrogant enough to consider his cruelty compassion as he decides whether the lives of their children are worth living.YET, Levi decided to keep him alive because he believed that it is what’s the best for Paradis; a decision that eventually caused Levi’s severe injuries and the activation of the Rumbling!

During the final battle, Levi offered to act as a bait for Mikasa so she can try to bring back Armin and risks his life TWICE to save Jean and Connie risking his chances to ever fulfill his promise to Erwin.

Please tell me now that these are actions of an “obsessed” man who is only focused on killing Zeke and revenge.

The first time Levi mentions the vow after the time skip, he says: “Erwin, I think I will be finally able to fulfill the vow I made to you that day. Your deathS had meaning. At last I will be able to prove it”  Levi clearly associates giving meaning to his comrades’ deaths WITH fulfilling his vow to Erwin. This is the line that proves that the vow has always meant something more.

Levi made a promise that came to represent the fulfillment of the goal all his former Survey Corps comrades laid down their lives for. Slaying the Beast Titan took on symbolic stature, a tangible way of giving their sacrifices meaning - especially in a world where the circumstances had drastically shifted and enemies, allies, and other were suddenly seen from a completely different perspective.

In Ch. 136, Levi remembers his friends and reflects upon their sacrifices and what they meant. They did not sacrifice their lives to “trample the lives and hearts of others”.

We never got a SINGLE panel in which he says that he fulfilled his promise! In the last apparition of his fallen comrades, Erwin isn’t even in the center. He salutes his fallen comrades for devoting their hearts for humanity and they salute him back for honoring their sacrifices.

If there is one thing that Levi was “obsessed” about, it is him trying to give meaning to the deaths and sacrifices of the people who truly devoted their hearts to humanity and whom he truly loved

OHOHOHOHOHOHOHO— ARSLAN SENKI TIME TRAVEL!! That's a first! I admit I've always wanted a time travel fic for ArSen, after reading so many Naruto time travel fics... Taking those as an example, Arslan could either travel back into his younger body or his older body travels as well and now there's two Arslans running around, in the first option ppl would definitely notice Arslan's changes while in the second option ppl would be Confused™ at this man/young man who looks like he could be related to their prince, so many ways it could go!

I'm afraid to say I have not watched Vinland Saga— but I'll take your word for it! And YES badass sassy Arslan please! He's baby but he's badass (more like he's baby AND badass— why not both?)

As for my fic ideas... I mainly have two, both heavily canon divergent! One is based on the other, sorta like a fanfic of a fanfic, an AU of an AU. I don't know if you've read Stormborn by blackkat, a Naruto fanfic where Uzushio is rebuilt, but the first AU is heavily inspired by it! Arslan has magical parents, he reunites with his mage clan and he scoops up Team Arslan on the way to rediscovering his long lost homeland— something like that. Featuring of found family, rediscovering your identity, lonely and traumatized and grieving and touch-starved Arslan (he was eleven when he left Pars)... I'd written some chapters of it but I am rewriting it because oh boy it is unsatisfactory— I haven't even finished one chapter of the rewrite but I digress.

The second AU... Arslan never becomes Crown Prince because dear old Andragoras found another unfortunate family to rob... Yeesh. Instead Arslan never becomes Arslan, his parents are still magical (but they dead, just like in the first AU), it is Shapur of all people who takes in an infant Arslan because... Let's just say he's indebted to a certain weaver who happens to be Arslan's birth father. His clan comes into the picture not long after. I dunno if you've seen the ask I sent about Kazai and Ranna— it be me! This AU features big brother Isfan, good papa Shapur, Gieve and Farangis being part of the family, Alfarīd getting a chaotic girlfriend...

I want to gush about the second AU because it's the one I've been fixating on these days but my ask is already really long and I don't want to intrude! >< Have a nice day!

My take on the Juswant and Arslan fic ... well, you'll just have to wait and see ;)

I've read a ton Naruto fics a while back with time travel as well!! Arslan-raises-Arslan, older Arslan replaces younger Arslan's mind, Older Arslan projects his memories back to younger Arslan but they get a little lost in translation, someone other than Arslan travels back - SO MANY ARSLANS.

Your fic ideas sound really cool! You should keep at them! All these found family stuff will end me, and I'll gladly let them. Arslan with magical parents honestly makes a lot of sense - this boy is a literal saint.

For your first fic - I've read a bit of Stormborn actually. And I've also read Ruling Heart of Glaciers . It's a really cool idea worth exploring!

For your second fic - I had a similar premis (Arslan never becomes Crown Prince) but our ideas are very different. In mine, Arslan's sort-of "Destiny" is to rule Pars. But Arslan (with Gieve) is a musician or smth and he says a big FU to the gods. (I admit, I'm stealing a lot from a bunch of Zuko AUs at this point - some of them my own.) are yall still here? bC I HAVE MORE ARCTIC AU STUFF FOR YA WOULD U LIKE WORLD BUILDING I WANNA EXPLAIN THE RELIGIOUS ASPECTS AND WORLD STUFF ah shet wait i have to explain the magic too don't i sHOOT OK SO THIS WILL BE SPLIT INTO DIFF POSTS SO IT'S EASIER TO DIGEST

Ok!! So people have magic! There are 3 different ways to get magic (u'll be seeing this number alot). There's learned, born, and blessed magic. All the ways and intensities vary depending on which magic you have.

Every culture's got their own learned magic. These ones came from the educated (so priests, scholars, and curious ppl). So in the arctic areas, their most common learned magic is more warmth-based (not necessarily fire, but retaining heat) so theres a bunch of spells that you weave into clothes to keep or release heat! In more temperate areas, you have more metallic spells, testing the purity of ores is one of the more common ones (for construction purposes and trading. And for more tropic areas, you have cooling spells and a more common spell (especially in more coastal areas) is water health spells, these would be carved into rocks or wrapped around poles in a fishing area and would help signify if the water was doing good. All these spells were made for necessity which is why it's learned. They all affect a small and specific area in a general way, so heating or cooling or health were the most common ones.

Next is born magic, now this is a bit more special bc where learned magic is something everyone can learn (communities and areas having their own specialties) born magic is passed down from families. Kinda like purebloods in hp if yall remember. So born magic is more powerful and affects a wider area but it's more general in its use. So you can have families with ice magic, aka they can only freeze things or families that have an extra bit of luck on their side (tipping the scales in their favor). This does mean though that some families rise through the ranks of power because their born magic is special or strong. So nobles are usually those from born magic families because that's how they became nobles in the first place.

Finally, we have the rarest and most powerful type of magic: blessed. This type of magic comes from the 3 gods (we'll get to that in another post) and this manifests in two ways: magnification or internalization. So magnification is when the magic you've been blessed with is magnified haha, so fire powers essentially turn you into a campfire (or a heater *cough*sapnap*cough) or a literal demon (appearance and all). Internalization, however only affects you internally, so this could be premonition or telepathy! But obvs for such powerful magic, there's consequences (which if u stick around I would love to get into!! >:) )

Ok so reasons why i Love Warcraft the Beginning, and why its perfect and i hope for more. Might be a little incorherant cus i'm just doing my thoughts as they come. i  dont have the time to spend hours writing articles i'm not being payed for.

Yes Warcraft is a great, i say Perfect movie. "But it has flaws". Everything does. That perfect movie you love so much? someone found it boring, someone found it pretentious , someone found it stupid. Perfect pizza? someone doesnt like your toppings, someone thought there wasnt enough for it. A movie, a show, a book, art in general cannot be judged by an arbitrary list of items it must meet to sufficient quality. "no plotholes, great acting, good effects" are not good qualifiers. Most ppl dont know the meaning of plotholes, different tons of story require different acting (Casablanca is seen as a masterpiece but i dislike movies of that era because the acting is over the top, stiff, and campy. however that does not make them bad, it just means i dont like it). Really the only way a piece of art can be judged is by judging it based on what it TRIED to do. If your character is suppose to show they are angry in this scene and they just seem constipated then you did fail and that was bad acting. But if your character is suppose to be angry and some of the audience thinks they should have acted a different way, then thats just a difference of opinion between author and audience.

So what did Warcraft the Beginning TRY to do? Pay homage to the original franchise, tell a heartfelt complex story, give a larger than life epic, and reinterpret the story into something thats better than it was and can be accepted by a general audience

-So i love how much the art, style and themes embraced the franchise. The intro was PERFECT. The little cameos and everything were well done. For some weird reason a few thought that was cringe but part of good cameos is world building. They arent putting "this way to the stoutelager inn" so fans can go "i get that refrence" they are doing it to create  a scene that involves a sign to an inn and might as well be a real one from the story, right? The franchise STARTED as Err orcs bad humans good but it has since evolved past that, and you saw that with the  theme of the H and A heroes banding together against guldan. The armor and costumes were perfect, using the major flair of warcraft without being overly done. Llane's and Lothar's armor is perfect example.

some people have a problem with what i'd say was the "family friendly epic fantasy adventure" aspect of the movie. yes pacing was quick but when you go into a weird story you just suspend disbelief and take things as you go. They never explain how the Flashy Thingies in men in black work, they just do. you accept it and move. And there was some slightly heavy handed themes and moments. but thats what we call Camp. Its a fantasy adventure, you have snark, a few cheesy lines, hope vs darkness and all that good stuff. I remember when Wonder Woman came out an interviewer asked about the....hammy? ending. i think they used  a different word. but the idea was that it seemed...bad? that the ending revolved around Wonder woman's faith in humanity, faith in goodness and trying to do good, was naieve. And Patty Jenkens said that she thinks the world needs more hope like that, not everything is doom and gloom and the point of a hero is to be hopeful.

A GOOD movie, a PERFECT movie doesnt need to be high art. Ppl talk about inception cus it was so intense but IMO if half the audience doesnt know whats happening then its not so good is it? and like i said So many "great perfect movies' in history are boring, or weird or unlikable to many people. And i think its a great detriment to the world that people got to act like only high art movies that win awards are any good.

And then there is the story and charactes. I loved Lothar and Llane, very relatable and good example of heroic men. The mirror between the father Lothar and Durotan was great. I loved how well they did the orcs, just everything about them. Like their meeting and having it so that you could only understand the side you were listening from, if you listen when its focused on the orcs and Garona is translating you can hear Llane speaking something that is NOT english. But like even with the kinder orcs they kept the furiosity. Durotan makes it clear that their world is dead and they cannot simply go back, and thats very realisitc. even were it not for guldan if he was fighting to save his people he'd willingly fight the humans if they tried to stop them. It was great seeing them touch on the idea of the fel infused orcs with Medivh's ability to create spells that specifically target them. Oh and geeze his whole arch. the actor and directing i think did a great job of showing him struggling to do as much as he could to help the alliance against the orcs. He seemed addled, like he was losing it or on drugs but you find out it is really because the fel is taking hold of him. thats what was great about the last guardian is the whole Inner monster storyline. Betrayal of one's self and all that. And it showed the variety in the orcs, yes you had dark ones who embraced the pillage too, and its a shame that the campfire scene "but you're...Green" scene didnt make it. Kadgar, did a good job with the whole "he's smart enough to notice when his 'betters' are wrong but he's young and inexperienced and doesnt know how to assert himself" was great.  Its funny cus some didnt like he didnt age, but far as i can tell nothing in warcraft even addressed that. Like he mentions once or twice in the book and in click dialogue that it sucks losing his childhood but there is no angst about it. you wouldnt know he's only in his 40s now. Even his little cinematic before legion focused on him taking up the mantle of the guardian.

And then there are the improvements it made. Rise of the Horde was good but they didnt have time to have the 'non fel orcs being around fel turn slightly green', so it was a good choice to have that dynamic visual change. Lothar's son arc i think gave him more of a personal reason to be invested in this other than "defense of our nation". And it kinda sucks in the original narrative that stormwind just kinda got its butt kicked. I'm sure it will still fall but it will be nice to see more effort put into it. And goodness we actually got to see varian's mother? and she was an important part of the story? she was an interesting character and had influence and was crucial to getting garona on their side. Speaking of , Garona by herself is the best change and alone makes this movie better than the original. She is a product of love, the first human/orc couple, presumably when Medivh was first exploring Draenor. And not a tool created by rape? Its so great that this shitty aspect of the story generated from the naive creator's idea of womens place in stories, was rewritten. Oh i'd be the first to say it wasnt malicious. but between Kerrigan and Sylvannas and Garona, heck this attitude exists today. That a man's humanity comes from his family, that he is violent emotionless and a killer but a wife brings out his peace and children his humanity . so the worst thing that can happen to him is his family is killed, thus bringing the beast back. And that for a Woman she is defined by her love of the man, does she reject him or accept him, does she play hard to get or support him? how freely does she give herself to him. And thus the worst thing that can happen to a woman is to have her body violated, and what many guys who grew up in the 70s-90s fantasy era that was the go to story. Woman is violated (in body) and gets her revenge and feels empowered by killing her rapist. while the man is violated by those he LOVES being killed, and empowered by avenging them and finding a new family (or a way to honor the dead ones)

So yea its REALLy awesome that this story rejected that whole farse and said "no, the key behind saving both peoples is a young woman who exists because 2 people from different planets loved each other"

this doesn't go public for another few hours but the zero people who will see this before it does wont even know what camp so it doesn't matter

hi im a teenage girl who works at a nature lodge at a camp in the summer ive been working there for years and since staff lives together for like two months theyre like family when i go to camp, i get up at 6:30 in the morning after going to sleep around 12 or 1am and im busy from 7am to 9pm every day some days its after 9pm we get up and do the flag ceremony and eat breakfast and set up program which is 9am to around 3pm and sometimes its til 5pm if your area has open program that day and i teach kids about rocks and minerals and erosion and dinosaurs and fossils and animal sounds and tracks and the animals we have in the lodge (we catch and release our animals every year from whats on property) and we might do a turtle race and i do that again until lunch then i do it again after for each session and if they have a second day we teach the greenhouse and the bug house and when program is over we do work projects until flags and dinner and sometimes we do work projects after dinner and the last day of the kids stay is chose your own adventure where the areas have all sorts of things to do and leaders chose what the kids do and they build their own schedule and the nature lodge usually does cubs who care and the river tour with some a-quad staff and my personal favorite, tracking, and their last night we have closing campfire where the packs can sign up to do a song or skit and staff does songs and skits inbetween and when all the songs and skits are done staff lines up and sings vespers as the scouts walk away and the nature lodge does a night hike and nav does a storytelling session and the rest of staff do humpty dumpty where we circle up and clap a beat singing (closer to chanting ig) “hump ty dump hump hump ty dump hump ty dump hump hump ty dump say what” and in-between each of those someone goes in the middle and says smth like “mary had a little lamb the doctor was surprised” and other variants and some things ppl say every time and theres smth we have to do with it like singing “its a small world” as all the short people go in the middle and ending with “so get off my world” as we try to intimitate tall ppl and we respond the same but saying “its a tall world” and when people finish in the circle we say “huh aint that funky now” and go back to the chanting and clapping and eventually some admin steps in and says goodnight or its girls shower hour or some other news and from 9-11 its free time essentially and i can go on a walk with my best friend or talk with a group of friends or sit in the dining hall and play games or watch videos or whatever and we do that every day all summer except for the days we check people in and staff weeks where its all work projects and getting ready and shut down week/weekend where its all putting things away for next year and we get nights off where we go to Walmart and fuck around or to some food place like wawa or the energy station or taco bell and bring food back for staff who wanted stuff and we have a Christmas in july event where everyone has a secret santa and theres tons of snacks and we put up a chrismas tree with oradments from all the program areas and we decorate the dining hall and play chrismas music over the speakers with a fire on the projector bc we don't have an actual fireplace and some times admin just does nice things for us like open pool time or pizza and a bonfire or open boating or .22s and shotguns at the rifle range or open archery or chances to tie dye our shirts bc we have certain days were we wear tie dye shirts or hawaiian shirts or oa day with the oa sashes which is the day of the overnighter where scoutcraft takes a bunch of aol’s hiking somewhere (usually the garrison field but sometimes the archery field) to pitch tents and cook dinner and whatever else they do on the overnighter and we don't get paid much but ig that ensures that we aren't there for the money right and sometimes its hard and sometimes its stressful mostly for directors or admin and you might want to cry from smth mean that an angry dad said but theres always that kind mom and her kid to tell you they've been coming to camp for years and they love it and its not fair of that guy to expect us to stop the rain or smth so his campsite isn't muddy and theres always the staff kudos usually written by the kids with their wobbly letters and their kind words to the one with the glasses at or the girl at or the tall one at and the parents who tell admin about the lovely staff and the kids you see every year growing before your eyes and they packs that always come back and the leaders who are friends with the staff and invite us to their campfires and give us food bc we legally cant accept anything else and some staff love camp for the kids, some for it being a summer job, some for being with their friends, some for being away from home, some for being in the woods, and some, like me, who are there for all of it camp is my safe place my home the only place ive even been where just being in the vicinity makes me peaceful i drive the road through camp and im happy, i step foot on property and im gleeful, i stay the summer and im elated, theres nothing bad for me at camp, i mean sure theres always the annoying kid in a pack or the pack that doesn't stop talking long enough for you to teach or the parent whos mean or whatever else might not be the ray of your sun but im not asking it to be perfect, i don't expect it to be, i just want it to be there when i need it and it always has

so these people who work full time overseeing stuff for my camp and the other one in council and all the people who work at the camps and the shop and work with the districts and the packs and troops and crews that are within, these very important, very hardworking people whos priority is always safety, have determined that any in person camping experience is too much of a hazard to conduct and i understand and respect that

but it doesn't stop me from being devastated

2. What is their voice like?

Right off the bat with a question i cant fully answer. How do you describe a voice?… Well, in DAI he rolls with the Male British Voice but it’s not really how i hc him…. Hmm… Well, it’s like, i guess on the deeper side but not that much - unless he drops a few octaves for… reasons. It got a certain purr to it, that also gets evident when drops deeper. On average, as he usually speaks in a loud and cheerful manner, sounding higher and clearer, you don’t really observe those deep tones his voice gains when he’s speaking relaxed or sleepy or seductive and such. That tingling purr is easily shifted to bone shaking growl territory though when he is angry and/or out for blood. yeah he’s an animalIf this gives you some idea….

4. What is their most embarrassing memory? 

Oh boiii, he got MANY. Yet few that he isn’t fast to admit and let people have fun on his expense, often even laughing at himself with them. But there’s one thing that comes to mind that he tries hard to change in stories.

He used to have very long hair, the exact dark blood red of their mother’s and he had pride in it, thick and strong and brilliant like hers, tied high with her ribbon the smol twins found around where she died (long heroic and tragic story). When his long hair comes up in stories or other chatting he admits that he had “lost it” a few years ago, and if pried further he only says that it was to a sharp dragon spike and fire.

His sister tells a completely different story than what people usually assume from that though, if you are worthy and buy her a drink for it XD

What actually happened is that he rolled into the campfire in his sleep, and his sister fixed his remaining hair into a passable shape with her dragon spike knife, hands shaking from laughter.

You know how he sleeps XD. Brain out cold, body moving around like an octopus, drawn to warmth. Touch is the only sense that has live connection to his brain and can sound the wake up alarm. Having a fire going is a big hazard, he learned the hard way even before the hair incident. On the fateful dawn this happened, his sister kept second watch as always, keeping one eye out and one on Soren, pushing him back under the small tent with her boot when adjustment was necessary. (when alone he ties his belt to stuff and sets traps that pain-jolt him awake if triggered). Everything seemed quiet and peaceful, no big or off movements far and wide, some birds waking, a fox sneaking by, Soren half curled on the tent post, nice and tight… A perfectly average quiet morning. Cold and humid, irking her since her watch started, by dawn the languid, teasing dance of the campfire’s thin flames didn’t help her bladder either. So she just figured she could take two minutes to take a piss. WRONG. In that two minutes Soren got brushed by a small breeze carrying the warmth of the fire, he pooled off of the tent post and unconsciously slid and rolled towards its source….His sister jumped back to their small clearing to Soren’s… well… blaring alarm, pants still halfway down, with a blade out, magic flaring, ready for anything… except for the sight that greeted her. Soren screaming curses in 6 languages while wildly rolling around in the damp high grass, head and shirt on fire.Oh how upset he was, and pissed XD And as he was muttering under his breath and fuming all day his sister poked him constantly with comments that his head appears to be smoking, does he need some more water, and the like.By next evening he was laughing with her, but tried all sorts of bribes to keep her forever silent about this incident. Naturally, he couldn’t succeed.

He soon got so used to his short hair that the newer grew it out again, not having to keep it in mind during fights and climbs and stuff not to mention its weight and maintenance proved to be a nice bonus. Plus he found his new looks easy on the eye. Some cut forms changed sometimes but length not really.

Part of why he doesn’t tell the truth is that he does not want ppl to figure his big weakness of sleep rendering him dead to the world, and not just completely vulnerable, but also endangering himself with his crawling around. Some rogue he is XD But proven friends always get the story from his sister eventually.

8. What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever eaten?

He ate all kinds of dishes that appear around Thedas as he grew up almost constantly on the road, so there were many that other parts consider weird. He finds this a curious thing. One normal dish to a coast of Antiva is a completely disgusting monstrosity to a mountain town in Nevarra, and so on.

But from an outside point of view the answer may be something like raw worms and the kind he a few times had to resort to for survival.

Or something completely different, considered weird, that he regularly does: eating predatory animals and even some monsters…. Often raw. Its actually his favorite. (can be blamed on all the blood magic work on his body, at least the craving of fresh blood, and the fact that he gains the most energy from meat, and he needs a lot of energy to run his boosted systems. He is kind of accidentally shaped towards a predatory animal by being enhanced. Nobody knows for sure how much this is the woken primal drives and how much just plain weirdness though XD)

18. What kind of music do they enjoy?

Soren LOVES music. He enjoys all kinds of skilled performances, likes to sing too (average singer but got that pleasant purr going for him), but his favorite thing about music is the merry atmosphere it can create and the dancing.So, the upbeat good vibe bits. He loves how people light up from some good music and dancing and he loves to dance, be it a fast paced loud group activity or a sensual slow glide. heck his fighting style is sort of a dance too Music should keep the spirits up, he thinks, and he is pleased to see that it often does. Its like a form of magic in his eyes, and we know how he loves magic… and people… and warming hearts.

32. Pet peeves?

Huh, another hard question. A LOT of things tick him off, and he is hot-blooded with a short fuse when it comes to things he has a displeasure for. (a similar trait of the twins but sister dislikes moooore stuff XD) Mostly things of the rich and ignorant and the festering scum. …But also like, sitting at a tavern’s counter and witnessing a pig say some disgusting slur or abusive shit etc to the servant has his fist instantly replying to it in their stead. No prelude. So I guess those things can also be considered here, tho I honestly newer quite grasped the full meaning of this English expression.

34. Least favorite food?

Green stuff. Let the animals eat weeds, he’ll eat the animals.Oh and if something doesn’t have meet in it, it is not real food. If it has at least a decent amount of sugar, then it’s at least a snack.

35. Least favorite color?

That is something he doesn’t really think much of, but would probably answer with “some muddy nonsense”. Basically anything that looks dirty, faded, washed out or muddy. It reminds him of the dirty alleys, rundown shacks, the old, stained and thrown out rags he more often than not had to wear growing up and he HATED it, like he hates poor quality and crude stuff, and poverty in general.

36. Least favorite smell?

Well, bad odors obviously, but that seems like a too obvious answer so.. least favorite…hmm

Too strong stenches, even if it was meant to be pleasant. Like flowers that ooze like no tomorrow, or someone wearing a bucket of perfume. His heightened senses can’t handle it, makes him kinda nauseous, besides it masks a lot of things he could read from a person’s scent at any given moment. He doesn’t like not knowing things he is used to be able to.

It may be an interesting thing to mention that he also absolutely loathes the scent of food going bad. He picks up on it much sooner than normal senses would, long before it’s considered not good to consume anymore. This puts an extra strain on his feeding problem, with him needing to consume at least the double of what an average man of his build needs for a day, always needing to get fresh stuff.

u sent this so long ago anon but looks like i’m in a hc mood so i hope that whatever randomness i end up spouting is to your interests (also omg which hc’s made u cry?? i’m assuming it’s the hansa ones): 

geralt: 

is it weird to say that one of his guilty pleasures is a warm bath?? it’s not like he gets too many opportunities for such luxuries (i.e., river baths are a lot less... pleasurable. & also dangerous... cause drowners, amongst other things), but he will always indulge in a bath when the opportunity arises.

similarly, he prefers hot weather to cold weather. even w/ all his armor, toussaint has his favorite climate/weather and allows geralt to wear his light armor, which i hc that he prefers to wear the most given what skills/traits the wolf school witchers seem more adept at compared to other schools 

boring hc that everyone pretty much has, but yeah, vampire genes were given specifically to geralt during the trial of grasses (bruxa tongue). doesn’t change much for him compared to other witchers except that he’s much more aware of his surroundings and has a somewhat faster healing rate than a regular witcher. his teeth are a bit sharper too, but not to a degree that’s overtly noticeable. 

general higher vampire hcs: 

almost all lower vampires have to hibernate at some point due to food shortages in the winter (yeah they could go & eat some ppl but it’s not like they don’t feed on the animal population too). higher vampires can choose to hibernate if they so wish (since they can control their metabolisms fairly robustly), which is why you might find a vampire or two sleeping in a coffin for an indefinite amt of time. 

if the HV decides not to hibernate for the winter/season, you still see a subtle shift in behavior. mainly, more general bouts of lethargy, increase in hoarding (insofar as what certain vampires enjoy having around i.e., regis might unconsciously purchase more books than usual to add to his library, dettlaff would buy more art supplies, & well... we know what orianna would store more of), a slight decrease in patience, increased agitation w/ strangers (human or vampire) if they wander too close to their home/territory, potentially an increase in bloodlust depending on the specific vampire (but nothing excessive), & more of a reliance on species-specific reflexes (i.e., relying more on using non-human forms/smoke/giant bat when it’s a full moon/etc.). however, on the plus side, they become quite amicable to friends/family/pack with more open displays of contentment and affection often occurring 

so in humans, we have the pineal gland, which is a structure in our brain important for regulating our day/night cycle & circadian rhythm. that’s why we’re diurnal, basically (thanks, melatonin). but HVs, being nocturnal, have even smaller pineal glands. tiredness isn’t regulated by melatonin release at night--rather, it’s based on amt of pluripotent stem cells (what i hc they use to regenerate specific body parts/limbs). sleep will come to them when their body needs it to regenerate in full. while outwardly, they may physically look healed, the internal anatomy of HVs is different and as complex as humans. this means that real ‘restorative’ sleep can come at random to HVs, almost akin to narcolepsy since HVs are consciously unaware of when they need to replenish amts of stem cells for healing

birthdays are celebrated by HVs--it’s something that the species took up from humans/elder species. so most HVs do know their exact age. however, birthdays are only celebrated on full moons, so an actual party/banquet/celebration occurs on the full moon closest to a vampire’s birth date. 

most HVs can hypnotize others using their voices--but this trait is specifically passed down through the maternal bloodline. i hc that regis & orianna can use their voice to hypnotize others, while dettlaff cannot. i also think it’s silly that cdpr made it so only bruxae do that screeching sound wave attack. nah. all HVs that can utilize their voice as a power can do the screech-y thing, but it is more commonly seen in females than males. 

hansa hcs: 

one time dandelion tried to teach a lecture-style lesson abt music theory to the hansa....... only geralt & regis actually listened while milva left when she got bored, angouleme followed her, and cahir fell asleep

cahir was actually interested in music/playing an instrument tho so later on, dandelion did teach cahir how to play a few notes on his lute 

also dandelion definitely tried to get the hansa to act out parts of a play he was working on (it was a romance of course jaskdfjs). angouleme immediately jumped to play the main character/protagonist while cahir ended up playing the ‘damsel-in-distress/love interest.’ it went about as well as you’d think, with angouleme ignoring the romantic bits and switching the script last minute to /killing/ the love interest ‘by accident.’ cahir’s ‘death scene’ lasts incredibly long (bc he really goes for it) & dandelion actually ends up changing the play to a tragic romance instead

at some point, geralt somehow ends up teaching angouleme how to swim when he finds out she can’t. he’s of course reminded of ciri.... up until angouleme, now adequate enough of a swimmer, pulls a prank by biting geralt’s ankle hard enough to leave a bite mark. it felt like being bitten by a drowner 

one of milva’s favorite moments w/ the hansa was their somewhat nightly routine where either regis, dandelion, or angouleme tell stories while everyone sits around the campfire, milva tending to her arrows, geralt and cahir sharpening their blades on a whetstone. it’s just a very peaceful moment for all of them tbh--and really solidifies their group as a family.

when cassandra was nine, she was walking home with dulcie and keandra through one of the huge buildings where griffins nest, and a bunch of griffin eggs hatched…and all imprinted on cassandra. cassandra had no choice to but to care for the babies, with the mother griffin moving into the family’s front yard.

her mothers were not happy.

cassandra will sometimes speak in a singsong voice, just because she’s used to it, and it’s not really weird to her to do it- she’ll also do it to convey different emotions if she’s talking with someone who knows capellan enough to get it.

an amazing headcanon that sammun came up with is that a singsong voice is also cassandra’s like slurred voice- when she’s tired or drunk.

as the boys get older, cassandra isn’t as afraid to swear around them- by now, it’s nothing they haven’t heard before…but she’s always careful not to swear around the boys & splinter

however she still does not let the boys swear casually- if its out of anger, or surprise, she’ll let it slide, but other than that…she’ll make them go brush their teeth. this comes from her misunderstanding the concept of washing someone’s mouth with soap- she thinks the goal of it is to simply clean their mouth. donatello has the best dental hygiene bc of this

cassandra always has party poppers on her, without fail. she carries usually 2 or 3 in her bag or pocket, and it’s gotten the point where she’ll use them for the most mundane of things. just did the dishes? time to fucking party. mikey’s been cooking? party popper. donnie made something cool? that gets TWO party poppers.

the best time though is after a battle, when everyone’s tired and aching, and suddenly cassandra’s just. popping party poppers.

cassandra probably hasn’t been around a lot of animals/pets to be honest?? like her family didn’t have pets on capella, ioavis was exclusively populated by ioavians, she might have encountered these huge, lizard like beasts pyrrites used as horses on pyrrah, but she never got attached to them…

so mikey’s cats & of course, spike, are cassandra’s first experiences with pets! and tbh? cassandra loves cats. don’t even try to talk to her if there’s a cat in the room that she hasn’t encountered before, because she’s going to try to befriend it.

cassandra wouldn’t get a pet cat because she knows they unnerve splinter, and she feels like it’s fair because she’s pretty much the same way with dogs. it’s an unspoken rule- splinter wouldn’t introduce a dog into the family because she’s scared of dogs, cassandra won’t do that with cats.

anyway it should be noted that cassandra looks down on fortune-tellers/clairvoyants who pass off their visions as Fate and Unavoidable. she’s more lenient if the clairvoyant genuinely did not know that fate really…isn’t a thing (at the very least, to the rest of the galaxy). but on the whole, cassandra will be quick to “correct” them and will honestly talk down to them.

likewise, anyone who tries to pass off bad deeds as simply being “fate” will be regarded with scorn from cassandra. and those who try to write off their good deeds as their destiny will be assured that their deeds were of their own doing- they chose to be good.

i should probably talk more about this- in my lore, fate & destiny do not exist. of course, the concept of them exists but most of the universe knows it to be false. prophecies aren’t a thing, and if they are, they’re more of guidelines than “this will definitely happen.”  if this conflicts with someone else’s lore, i’d love to talk about it and reach some kind of middle ground! but yes, fate does not exist in my lore.

cassandra has definitely taken the boys trick or treating before.

if we’re going off “hello, clairvoyant?” canon and not….canon canon, then splinter might have taken them once before? since they are like 6 years old in ‘hello, clairvoyant?’

paola paints ‘seams’ onto the boys so they look like they’re wearing costumes

it takes a few years, but cassandra Goes All Out for halloween. decorating the lair, watching halloween movies, etc.

she loves to dress up too tbqh. she’s been a witch, a knight, and a pirate before.

gosh but i can see paola dressing up as vivi from final fantasy and joining them.

all versions of cassandra need glasses- classic cassandra usually wears contacts, but keeps her old glasses on hand in case she needs them. hellion has either healed or eyes or hasn’t, but just refuses to wear glasses.

when she counts on her fingers she starts with pinky

she adores fruit, especially chocolate covered fruit. she also loves crunchy peanut butter. her family has caught her just eating peanut butter straight out of the jar with a spoon many times before. her favorite food ever is pop rocks, and is usually eating them at the worst possible moment.

cassandra has a habit of speaking without really meaning to, especially when she’s got a lot on her mind.

hope everyone likes pumpkin spice, bc that’s the only flavored food cassandra’s buying for all of fall. even those nasty pumpkin spice m&ms

the boys definitely played with cassandra’s hair a lot when they were younger- they were absolutely fascinated by it at first and honestly still are. sometimes the boys offer to brush her hair for her because they like playing with her hair

cassandra really likes picking people up. not like flirting but like physically picking them up and carrying them places. she likes showing off her strength and likes being close to ppl when she carries them.

cassandra’s always very affectionate but on holidays like national cuddle up day (january 6th), valentine’s day, national kissing day (july 6th), national hand holding day (today) give her and Excuse™ to be even more affectionate

i can totally see cassandra liking superman (last of his kind? very powerful but also a nerd? hmm…sounds familiar).

it takes a lot for her to get drunk, but once she is drunk…goodbye emotional barriers. she cries 500% more but usually it’s happy crying. and she’s vERY likely to blurt out a love confession when drunk.

cassandra is also extremely clingy when drunk and will lean on you or lay on you.

cassandra loves to sit in the tree in the dojo. sometimes she’ll sit in on the boys and splinter training and just sit up there watching them. cassandra likes being up high and swinging on stuff, so she probably sits on the tire swing a lot too.

cassandra cheats during family game night unless someone says “mom don’t use your clairvoyance.” in her mind, if you don’t remember that she’s clairvoyant, that’s on you.

cassandra would absolutely learn how to do card tricks to impress the boys- maybe even just on her own. cassandra’s that person who will pull out a deck of cards at a party and will do magic tricks to get out of having to actually have meaningful conversations with people

glow in the dark stars are something unique to earth, and cassandra is just in love with them, so she puts them all over the lair on the ceiling, in her bedroom, in paola’s cabin, and in her spaceship. glow in the dark stars everywhere.

cassandra makes sure all her kids know how to sew. leo got really good at it and can actually make some p decent looking stuff- he’s best at stuffed animals tho.

whether or not cassandra is weaker than her partner, if they’re sparring she’s still gonna throw them off by kissing them

everyone cassandra knows has, at some point, gotten some form of winter gear that she’s made from her for christmas or during the holiday season. it’s generally the first holiday you spend with the family, honestly. cassandra just wants to make sure everyone’s warm enough during the winter

cassandra absolutely taught the boys how to play their instruments. in addition, she taught raph how to play the trombone.

as the boys get older and start to push away cassandra’s affection (for the sake of being “cool” and “mature”) her heart breaks a little more every time they reject a hug or kiss on the cheek/forehead.

since cassandra herself struggles with being organized and neat, her rule is that the common area, kitchen, dojo and lab have to be clean. the boys’ rooms can be as messy as they like, but everywhere else has to be clean

gross thing cassandra will do to freak people out: put food that maybe shouldn’t be eaten raw in her mouth and cook it in her mouth, then stick her tongue out so people can see it. however, she can’t cook with her inclination- at least, not well.

cassandra smells like cinnamon & apples & campfires & (sometimes) sweat. she might smell like smoke if she’s just got home from work, but she usually takes showers right away after getting from responding to a fire.

since cassandra has both time blindness from her adhd, and also an incredible awareness of time as it moves due to being an augur, cassandra’s perception of time is really messed up. you will frequently hear her say “time isn’t real.”
