Read an Elizabeth Goudge book (Book 3 of the Elliot trilogy seems right, because Book 2 is coming to mind a lot as an appropriate summer book).

Remember that sunflowers exist. Find lots of them.

#random thought of the day #i had considered canceling august #just denying its existence and pretending it's july ii #because the whole month always feels like living beneath a guillotine blade that's about to drop #a downhill from summer and a dread of autumn and nothing actually good in and of itself #except for maybe sunsets when the melancholy at least feels a little right #but i've decided to embrace it and maybe find a better atmosphere for it #(yes i do have a specific retelling in mind)#(if you've been following the writing blog you know which one it is)#(but i'm not naming it because saying it aloud puts too much pressure on it)#(and this is supposed to be a pressure-free fun project)#(plus i recognize that i've not yet reached the one week mark)#(where i lose interest in most fun new projects)#(so i acknowledge the likelihood that in like 2-3 days i'll no longer want to write it)#(but for now i hold onto hope and think it has just the right vibe to make august something better)

Things that sillily make me happy: the fact that in the official Buffy chess set they released, Buffy and Angel are queen and king chess pieces.

And, I mean, it just makes sense that they would do this, of course. As it looks like this set was based on early season two, as Spike and Drusilla are the king and queen pieces for black.

But Buffy and Angel being king and queen pieces works so well, since they're paired together, of course. And equal to each other... and a battle couple. And more than anything, this is great because the queen's the most powerful piece on the board and Buffy's the most powerful character in the series, of course. And her being more powerful than Angel just tracks. Because she canonically is. And this makes me think of the many times where she saved him and he was the damsel.

Anyway...

#buffy the vampire slayer #bangel #i was looking at this set on ebay again. in thinking about christmas gifts for people #also i found out that there are three buffy board games. four if you you want to count that the unmatched buffy set that doesn't fully coun #but meh #i had thought there were three when i was browsing lately but now i know for sure. there's also an ats one. so if you want to count that #and not see angel as its own thing there are actually four #still bummed. though. that the ats expansion of the one buffy game got canceled on account of covid:( it sounded so cool #i'm also not counting the buffy chess set as a game: i'm meaning board games here. if you want to count the buffy chess set then #there's even more #basically (not counting the chess set) it looks like there was this one buffy game and then that game did a spinoff angel game #then after that (i think) there was a legendary version of buffy (legendary is a game series oc)#then after that there was a new buffy game that got an expansion set and then was going to have one more expansion set in the form of ats #but covid sadly ruined that plan:(#and then there's a game called 'unmatched' and there's a set you can get of that that adds buffy characters to the game. but the game itsel #isn't a buffy game #though don't quote me on this... (because i have not played the game) if you only have the buffy unmatched set perhaps it would just be a #buffy game. but it's not set out to be a buffy game or anything like that #i do know two people who have played the buffy unmatched set and really enjoyed it #me myself i've played the third buffy game i listed here (the one with one expansion and was supposed to have an angel one) and it was fun:

Fran Bow!

It was very fun to draw her again it’s truly been too long,,, perhaps I’ll rewatch a playthrough again I do do that every half a year or so

I actually don’t think I’ve talked about my love for Fran bow (the game) on this account since it’s mostly a fnaf account but I’m actually a really big fan of this game! It’s been a huge inspiration for me ever since I first discovered it, I mean the most obvious influence is I’ve named several animatronics in my au variants of Fran but otherwise I take a lot of visual and aesthetic inspiration from the game, the reason I draw the way I do I because of Fran bow

Although on Fran (the character) I really just love her lots, I’m very partial to the “disturbed child protagonist of a horror game” trope she’s my special silly and she sits in the back of my brain all the time <3 Fran bow Dagenhart you mean so much to me :}

So here's an update on what the crew looks like 🤔, I decided to give them my own twist on their OG and Studio designs 😗

From left to right it's Snow, Bendy, Boris, Cup, Mugs, Cala-Maria and lastly Alice

Bendy has a more humanoid-demon look and Boris has a more wolf boy look. For Cup and Mugs they're basically haunted porcelain ball-jointed dolls (I got the idea from the game 😁) Cala is a mermaid . . . no surprise there and Alice is a half fallen angel via my interpretation.

Snow also went through a design change and is also male now, you see he was always supposed to be male but because I could never grasp on how to draw male figures I just drew him as a female but I guess that doesn't matter since he is a shape shifter after all hope y'all can accept him 🥺

To start off this month long come back here's this

I usually do UnknownSpy's dressuptober challenge on insta but I'm gonna do it here as well I know we're 5 days into the month but please forgive me I've got a full time job now and can't be here as often so let's see how this goes who knows maybe I might start doing some art streams someday 😁

oh god the last 24 hours have been a LOT

#currently torn between:#inconsolably elated about 505 and getting to witness the sheer joy and heartfelt hugs of them being onstage together again #devastated for poor alex and his voice #and praying he’s drinking lots of honey and lemon tea and not beating himself up about having to cancel #utterly ECSTATIC about miles’s new single dropping this evening #tiny bit of selfish worry that the state of alex’s health means i might not get to see am this weekend #all in all this would plenty of emotion for like. an entire month #and instead it’s happened in LESS THAN 24 HOURS #genuinely feeling quite exhausted #i think i need to go and lie down and not think about am or alex or miles for a couple hours #which is #not a sentence i ever thought i’d say lol #also my heart goes out to anyone who was meant to be seeing them in dublin 💔#i know we all care much more about alex being okay and looking after himself than we do about seeing them perform #but that doesn’t make missing seeing your favourite band any easier #so yeah #sending love and hugs to anyone in that position 💗#milex #arctic monkeys #lulu posts

please forgive me, but I need to complain and over-share or my brain is going to explode please feel free to ignore

#I'm not doing well.#the last two places I worked (in a tourism-adjacent sector) closed. broadly speaking due to post-lockdown financial issues #for the past year at my current job I've been earning less than half what I used to. this was the only offer I got at the time and #I haven't found anything better since. this is not sustainable I'm barely making it each month...#I live with my parents and cancelled my health insurance I don't know how else to reduce my budget. it's depressing tbh #the solution is obviously to find a better job but that's just not happening and I'm beginning to feel discouraged.#I hate being negative it's a very unattractive character trait but I just feel myself slipping and spiraling #I know I should be taking short courses or volunteering to boost my cv but like when ! and how !#I can't afford to work less but I get home at 20h so even evening courses are tricky. I work every other saturday too so weekends are out #and like I do need to rest at some point you can't be depressed and burnt out that's a terrible combo #was looking at a dtp/typesetting short course and 1) I'll need a new computer that can actually run design programs #and 2) the course itself is like 2 month's salaries which I cannot realistically save right now #and yet I'm still ''over-qualified'' for entry level positions because I went to uni. well maybe that's just a polite excuse #because as interesting as my humanities degrees were they didn't equip me with any practical or marketable skills #besides being good at reading and writing. but AI can do that for free now so that's not helpful #I always thought I was reasonably intelligent but I cannot solve this puzzle. there must be a creative solution that I'm missing #but i feel so stuck and trapped #and at least once a week some poor soul stumbles in to the office practically begging for a job so I feel bad for complaining #a little truly is better than nothing #but thank god we elected more pro-business capitalists into government that really is going to be great for us workers (sarcasm)#also I should acknowledge #I am getting some déjà vu. I feel like I've vented about this topic before #the difference is. back then it was a potential concern. now the concern has materialised into reality and rendered the situation desperate

Ughhhhhhh I hate writing and I hate not writing and I hate myself

#nearly bought a digital typewriter today. actually i DID buy a digital typewriter today. officially yes i have bought a digital typewriter.#the money for the digital typewriter has left my account but i have emailed them to cancel the order because i can't in good faith buy #a digital typewriter when i don't fucking WRITE #i thought it might help me get back into it. distraction free and while allowing me to not judge my own writing #and be continuously editing while i write and going 'i'm crap i'm crap i'm crap no one will ever read this and if they do they will think #that i'm garbage and that i should feel bad etc etc etc'#but it's too expensive and i have the feeling i wouldn't even like or use the thing once i got it #because the IDEAS! the ideas aren't coming to me. or rather they are but none of them seem to stick #i feel underconfident in writing any of them #and then i have old projects that i've always wanted to get back to like the tennis romance thing but SO much has changed since i first #started drafting it. like i don't even know if i like the main couple anymore. i kind of want to put both of them with different OCs of min #but it'd switch up the WHOLE story if i had a different cast #in fact most of the problem lies in the fact that i have this long-running bedtime story i tell myself every night with lore #and a massive cast of characters that i switch out depending on who i'm most interested in right now and every so often i incorporate new #themes and ideas and motifs and plot points sometimes based on media i've been watching because it's MY bedtime story and it doesn't matter #if i plagiarise in my own brain. but then obviously i can't plagiarise in real life #and none of my bedtime stories are GOING anywhere. sometimes i only get through a scene or two before i fall asleep #all of which means my bedtime story is not so much a sweeping epic novel but a sitcom with way too many characters #most of which are werewolves to be honest and sometimes for my own wish fulfilment one of them will walk out of my head #and take care of my problems for me by lending me £1million or murdering my best friend's ex. in my mind obviously #so it's like. it's a case of getting in there and annexing off the stuff i think i can use #it's like yeah i've definitely written several romance novels in my head in the process of this but does it matter if they're IN my HEAD #to be honest i feel like my main strength is in creating characters. like i have this one family of werewolves i've been slowly but surely #adding members to since i was like 16. maybe younger? no yeah i think i made the first one when i was 12 #they're compelling to ME anyway. i care about them. it's just PLOTS. i can't plot #if a book could just be a lot of dialogue and sex scenes and silly moments and character studies i'd be alright #i also can't describe settings. don't ask me to because i can't #and now i'm just annoyed with myself because i sat down at my laptop to try to write and instead i'm here complaining about how i don't wri #and if i had the digital typewriter... i mean i'd probably still be doing this i'd just no longer have £300 #i don't have the £300 anyway. i hope to christ they refund my card i'm a fucking idiot

puss in boots: the last wish is such an excellent example of animation geared towards adults without it being vulgar. it had complex themes about mortality and identity that would go over kids heads. and the villain was terrifying, like genuinely scary. the humor was mature without being explicit. its a genuinely a movie kids can watch and enjoy but it really is an adult movie.
