Thinking about Disco Elysium and stars. Something about communal experience and simultaneous isolation, hope and idealism, fear and beauty and terror and burning. The inherent horror in the vast romantic starscape of the sky, the melancholy and loneliness inherent in the untold distance, a communal experience of something too enormous to fathom. Stars bear witness to humanity, to the millions of tiny people crawling on the face of Elysium. They watch the people, and the people watch back, and make up stories about the stars. Stars symbolise love, hope, something unreachable and unattainable.

The way that the light of the stars reaches every single being in Elysium, from human to phasmid, but no matter how far it reaches it is still a cold and distant glow, always on the verge of going out. A moral brilliance, a holy light to strive towards, something always at risk of burning out, but there's a dichotomy too. A duality between the stars as brutal unfeeling observers, moralists even, like the aerostatics flying overhead, tiny dying lights that watch impassively over every terrible thing in the world, and the flipside; stars as the burning kernels of hope, furious burning flames that parallel Harry and his golden-orange forest fire nature. Stars as the light of communism, the star-and-antlers. They're hope and dreams- a million years in the stars. Rockstars and superstars. The light of a brighter future (however short-term that future might be) coming towards them at the end of the tunnel. It makes me think of Sacred and Terrible Air and the light pollution in Vassa- ending light pollution as the world ends. "You may laugh at this, but in the evening, when the big world in the distance swells into a bloody maelstrom, families come out into the street in Vaasa and are insignificant together. Only distant explosions disturb the deep peace of the winter night, its flawless starry sky. Everyone watches, heads tilted back." The stars are a shared experience. Something that everyone watches, insignificant together, when there's nothing more that can be done. Light in the face of darkness, community in the face of inevitability. Togetherness. The stars are there in the church with the ravers. They're there watching Harry and Kim together. Insignificant together. In dark times, should the stars also go out?

Hinata, Hinata, Hinata. How's my favourite little slave owner doing? She okay? Well, not for long now, because I'm about to rip into her.

Here's the situation. She's bland. Frumpy. Too timid, too shy, too "kind", too awkward, too privileged, too busy idolizing Naruto and putting him before her kids, to be a Shinobi. To have the guts to do something about the slavery going on in her own family. To even acknowledge it.

That's annoying. Unfortunately, she, much like Sakura, was born in a world much too harsh for her. She doesn't fit in. She doesn't have what it takes to live up to the expectations placed on her as the heir (which is why Hiashi had to pass it down to Hanabi, a much more capable kunoichi, and no matter how much you vilify him for it, he was right to do so. He has a duty to his clan, he needs to be responsible. There's no space for coddling). She's preoccupied with stalking her crush from afar.

She's unimportant. She's just...there. Neji suffered the fate of his father saving her, a true loss of a much more important, likable, skilled character.

And she, instead of at least realizing, acknowledging how fucked it is that there are literal slaves in her family, whose lives are treated as lesser than hers, she just fawns over Naruto again.

In the fight with Pain, her confession was selfish, a suicide mission which endangered the lives of everyone, and specifically the fate of her bodyguard that told her that he'd get in trouble if something happened to her. She blatantly disregarded every warning she was given to not approach the battle.

All to confess her feelings to a stranger (because that's who Naruto is to her. He's a stranger, whom she knows only about his never-give-up mentality. And she, well. She is someone Naruto barely spoke to ever), get one panelled, and traumatize Naruto who would have to suffer with the guilt of knowing someone died for him out there. You could say he went ballistic over the fact that Hinata was injured and he loved her so, but the fact that he never once sought after her and ignored her love confession is proof enough that he only cared about her well-being as a mere comrade. Just knowing she's alive was good enough for him. Because Naruto is Naruto, and like it or not, he generally cares about people.

Her whole character falls apart the moment I erase her infatuation with Naruto; all the evidence you need that she's horribly written and shallow (Something also purposefully done by Kishimoto).

Hinata is simply privileged and irrelevant, in all the sense of the words. Seeing her stans point fingers and make fun of Sakura without realizing that they're both equally bad is hilarious.

Hinata wasn't made for the world of Shinobi, and it's blatantly clear.

TRADWIVES: Ahistoric LARPing

Found some cool clips that debunk the current "tradwife" grift circulating the internet.

Clip 1: Traditional wives were not weak-willed lilies that pined away dutifully, grossly stupid and financially dependent on their husbands... working women, anyway. (Full video here-- though it mainly debunks the "godfather" of the Red Pill more broadly than his misunderstanding of the traditional family.)

Clip 2: The tradwife and Red Pill movement don't understand the 1950s. Married women chose to remain in the work force post WWII, which locked the younger women out of jobs. The younger generations then married and had kids early because the economy was good and there was nothing else to do. (Full video here. I highly recommend it in conjunction with her video carefully deconstructing the "men need sex [at the expense of women]" narrative, found here.)

Clip 3: Lastly, "modern women" who've chosen to become SAHM and SAHW have successfully done so without sacrificing their financial independence or losing their personal dignity or identity. (Full video here, which breaks down popular TikTok tradwife content.)

Obviously, no relationship is perfect; and more obviously, it's a great risk to throwaway the potential of financial freedom and independence on the false dream the trad movement is selling. Not only are they self-employed women masquerading as traditional, but most (not all) are also making a mockery of the hardworking women who juggle their lives, kids, and finances to make a SAHM role work.

At the end of the day, we can only make the best choices for ourselves-- in any area of our lives-- if we're truthfully informed.

What's your go to 40k faction?

You know how there is the option for Chaos Undivided? Well I am Faction Undecided. XD I do like the Salamanders, just because I know saving anyone in need would ALSO be my downfall and I would not regret it for a second. But at the same time, I do not vibe with fire at all, as an ice enthusiast. ^^' (And space wolves, the cold ones, are not my vibe either) And I have this issue of finding every faction fascinating in their own way, but I do not want to commit before I know everything about every option. ....And I'm sure you can imagine how deeply silly it is, considering the DECADES of lore and flavor that every SUB-FACTION gets in 40K! XD I appreciate them all! I don't affiliate with any though. :) (And I will not be buying an army, thank you. Might think up my own astartes legion at some point for fun, though. :D)

i keep seeing people saying that they killed izzy for shock value a la game of thrones and i just— not every character death is there for shock value?? just because you don't expect it doesn't mean it's specific purpose is to garner shock value.

izzy very clearly represented piracy. he was steadfast and staunch in his ways and he held onto the traditions of piracy with a TIGHT fist throughout the first season and the start of the second. not to mention, s2 was ALWAYS leading to this theme of "the end of piracy". the clues were there the whole season!!! and by that logic, if izzy = piracy, then end of piracy = end of izzy.

im not happy about his death!! im disappointed hes gone!! i loved him, he was probably my favorite character this season!! BUT i do understand why djenks did it. and it was NOT a "for shock value" kind of thing.

some people are reeeeal quick to like get super defensive and jump onto this "omg it was for shock value! there was no other purpose! what bad writing! what a bad writer!" bandwagon when things they don't personally like or agree with happen on their favorite shows, but honestly not everything you don't like is "bad writing" or "just there for shock value" or "purposeless". maybe take a couple minutes to think critically about it and to like analyze the choice within the frame of the whole season and the whole show and its themes before making those kinds of (oftentimes baseless) accusations?

it's one thing to be upset with something that happened and to not like it, and it's another thing entirely to then blame it on bad writing or a clueless, vicious writer who doesn't care about their characters or their story or their audience.

Random small talk event at the yard sard set-up, very nice lady, but ESP when asking "Oh are you still in school? ☺️" I literally never know how to say "Oh I graduated a long time ago. Yeah. I mostly do art now" and she says "Oh to sell?" and so far I'm having a reasonable and effective small talk conversation, when I hit that pitfall and lock up and I worry I'm becoming unfriendly bc I locked up. Because I REALLY don't know how to say, "Nah, I kind of do fuck all. I'm 25 and I do fuck all. For nothing." Like I can see the conversation tree in real time and I know that's the worst dialogue option. And there are no other dialogue options there's just Press B to get the fuck outta there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'M SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think besides like, realizing that these characters were put into the brackets cause the headcanons are well liked by multiple people + just learning how to be polite on a poll, there's ppl who also need to like... notice when they come up with reasoning for disliking a headcanon that becomes actually harmful

as I stumbled across someone saying transfem Hunter is bad because she "is violent and mean for most of his screentime and that plays into idea that transfem ppl are inherently aggressive and violent" as if Hunter's not a traumatized teenager who's being manipulated into doing bad things but is ultimately a sweet person

yeah exactly + i've done research for all of the characters on my bracket just to make sure i'm not promoting negative rep or gross headcanons and i don't think a single character on here should be disqualified . at the end of the day this is a fun little competition i set up because i was bored and these are JUST characters. i'm having fun and i hope everyone else is too! i want this to stay fun and i want the competition to be respectful

Seeing so many anime nowadays getting production issues and delays, I'm really glad that Mob Psycho 100 is not one of them.

It's worth mentioning that the animation producer is often the one to blame for production issues as they are the one who bring the anime staff together (I recommend checking this thread since it brought up the recent case of Nier anime’s indefinite delay, 86 anime's notorious delays and many episode recaps that happened a while ago), so it's not always the studio's fault or the staffs’ fault. Digging through more information and sources before assuming what happened/blaming someone for something bad happening within the production is always good.

I am reminded of Wonder Egg Priority and how they had to ask help from many people all around the world just to complete the episode hours before airing, and the plot going completely off the rails, the staffs were overworked so much they went to the hospital (I believe it's either one of the animators or the director, I don't remember), and the final episode was delayed one month before it concluded with many mixed reactions. It started off great, like a passion project beloved by many, but it didn't last long before it started crumbling apart nearing the end.

Production issues have always been happening a lot since a long time. It's not something that has only happened in recent years. Anime industry is a complicated and harsh place. Animation producers like Kadokawa is aiming to produce 40 anime per year, which resulted studios unable to handle the project and many staffs are being overworked. Even Revue Starlight anime, despite managing to finish the series without a significant drop of quality or delays, was also known to have a lot of production issues behind it, even the chief animation director said "it's a miracle that we managed to finish the show".

Let's look back to Mob Psycho, and let's see how "far ahead" the production is. The second season trailer was released one month before its broadcast in January 2019, and it already has many footages up to Episode 8. And the third season trailer that's released before its broadcast, which showed footages and voicelines all the way to episode 12. Rumor has it that S2 had finished production a while before it aired in Winter 2019, but it’s never specified when, while S3 had finished its production in Spring 2022 (around April-June 2022). I can see why people are upset over the third trailer spoiling the final arc, but when I watch this trailer as a manga reader, I don't feel upset, instead I feel relieved. I'm glad that the production of the anime has finished in advance, which means it wouldn't be subjected into delays or mid-broadcast production issues many anime are suffering right now, and it still delivered many standout episodes like it’s never left. Even though many talented staffs, at that time, were booked for other projects (such as Tachikawa Yuzuru having to step back from being a Director to Chief Director, handing the position to Takahiro Hasui because Tachikawa-san had to direct the upcoming Blue Giant movie), Mob Psycho still kept the high-quality production of S3 even until the end. It just shows how different a series can be if handled by the right production team. Not just the right studio, but also the right director, character designer, producer, episode directors, animators, and many, many others.

Think about what would happen if Mob Psycho hadn't been handled by the same people, and not with the same amount of love and passion towards the series. It could have production issues. It could have delays. It could have a lot of episode recaps mid-broadcast. It could have many staffs hospitalized. Or it could manage to finish on time but with VERY recognizable drop of quality. Or it could be just another forgettable anime adaptation with nothing special happening in it.

I think we as Mob Psycho fans should be grateful that we have not just BONES, but also Tachikawa Yuzuru (director of S1, S2, Chief Director in S3), Takahiro Hasui (episode director of S2's Separation Arc and Director of S3), Yoshimichi Kameda (Character Designer and Chief Animation Director), Hiroshi Seko (Series Composition), Kenji Kawai (Music), Miyo Sato (the artist of all paint-on-glass and S3EP6's sand-on-glass sequences), all of the staffs, animators, episode directors working on it, producers, all of them. We are so blessed to have an adaptation full of love, passion, and care from the staffs. It's such a rarity these days.

I recommend checking this for reading Mob Psycho S1 and a bit of S2's production notes, or production notes of other anime that you want to see. For S3, I recommend SakugaRelux's very detailed production breakdown thread here.
