silly episode idea but hear me out

okay well the first part isn’t silly! so the episode is based around a con they are doing where a polyam triad wants to get married and have been writing to senators and stuff for years but nothing has happened. maybe there is a time element that leeway has to happen soon (not sure what that would be yet, maybe someone is sick???)

(obviously polycules aren’t only and are often more than just a closed three-person system, but I’m saying triad right now bc I feel like that would be an easier and more ‘socially acceptable’ gateway into more accepting legislation for diverse relationship dynamics)

the leverage crew, of course, can’t outright change the public perception of poly marriage, but they can use the ‘enemy’s’ tactics against them and slip stuff into legislation without people noticing like they do. it’s slimy and it’s not a permanent fix, but it’s a start, and it gives people the opportunity to see poly marriage in action and that it isn’t as terrifying or pearl-clutching-inducing as they think it would be. there’s a long way to go, but the seeds of change have been sown and they will make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible

this is one of the cases that they will monitor on the back burner over time. some cons can finish within a few hours (the bottle job), and some things they will follow over time and make adjustments when needed- amplify voices and expose corrupt politicians etc

and then it’s just after 3/4 of the way through but the con has been finished? what is going on? this is where the silliness comes in

there’s something so alluring about the idea of living in a perpetual horror movie to me. like a time loop. specifically a paranormal one where you could never make it out alive. in the same sense of “heaven is a place where nothing really happens” (from the talking heads song Heaven), being trapped in a story where there’s only one ending and you suffer through whatever horrors are laid out for you (but they are laid out exactly as they are and always will be, and they are laid out for YOU) sounds like. morbidly peaceful. no need to worry what happens next, you already know. and you’ve done it a hundred times. of course you’re in pain but it’s intimately familiar and maybe you don’t even register your suffering anymore. and you’re not preoccupied by your performance in this dance anymore either— it feels like whatever you do, the same events occur, but you’re an actor in a story and you never had free will to begin with. anyways. it just sounds kind of nice 👍

I dont want to be rude, but can you please explain more about how Max is infantilozed? Like do you mean by the fandom or are there other things? Just curious seriously.

oh it’s definitely a fandom thing more than anything,, if i could i would give specific examples of things i’ve seen people say about max— but unfortunately the internet is far too large and i am far too tired to do that.

but in a general sense, i would say max is most commonly infantilized by how some people treat amberpricefield as chloe and rachel being the cool, mature, badass ones and have max be the shy, blushing-nonstop, cant say the word sex, stuttering mess.

it’s definitely not That obvious all the time, but most of the time it’s still pretty noticeable— at least to me. i’m sure you could see it eventually if you scroll long enough in the amberpricefield tag.

also, this might be a different thing, but another way max gets infantilized is how people really like to treat max as if she can do nothing wrong ever. for example, the people who got upset at DontNod making max being a part of the vortex club in the alt timeline— only getting mad because they think max is too sweet/kind/anxious/etc for that kind of enviroment, as if (and i say this with love in my heart) max has never been an asshole or a little bitch (but thats a whole other post i could make). point is! it’s infantilizing to think a character can do no wrong ever, and thats how people treat max a lot of the times.

this is genuinely a really good question— i just have zero real idea how to answer it other than what i said,, it’s just something you see a lot when youre in the fandom for a while.

Thinking about ASTV and how it tackles different family dynamics again, and while I’m sure so many fans of Miguel’s 2099 comics would love it if one of his love interests was brought into BSTV to help wrap up his backstory… I kinda hope they don’t, because him being an entirely single dad just sounds so much better to me than him having some dead off-screen partner.

Resolving to adopt a kid from another dimension also sounds more in line with the desperation of a man whose been put through the ringer in the adoption process, than that of someone who was a husband and father but lost that in recent years. It just feels more cohesive and intimate, while not resorting to the tired trope of killing off some woman to motivate the big burly man into action. I don’t think that would be fair to Xina and Dana, specially if they weren’t already introduced in ASTV and therefore missed a pretty big chance at standing out in the narrative. I can’t claim to be the most attached to them, as I only know of them, but I know I wouldn’t want a character I cared about to be reduced to that- specially if it would arguably come to the detriment of another character as well.
