Cold Travels (Turo X Male Reader)

“I-I hate the cold.”

“You already said that 10 tens.”

“Good. Did you know I hate the cold?”

Turo can’t help but smirk as he and his boyfriend travels through the region. Being students of Uva academy, they of course participate with the treasure hunt. For Turo, he just want to research his several projects and finally get in the great crater. All the while, he supports his boyfriend, who’s challenging the 8 gyms and the league. In order to get in the crater, Turo needs special permission and if Y/N manages to become champion, which would make things a lot easier. During the journey, Y/N is doing quiet well without any major setbacks. Still, it appears that the cold, snowy mountains is the worst.

“How about instead of complaining you get out your Skeledirge?”

“Oh.” Y/N deadpanned respond. Quickly, he grabs the Pokéball and throws his fire Pokémon out. Instantly, he can feel a bit of warm, but it appears that he isn’t the only one suffering from it. “Oh no, he’s c-cold too.” Skeledirge quickly walks over to Y/N, who gives him a hug. “I’m sorry sweetie.”

Turo stops walking as Y/N consoles his Pokémon. He always finds it surprising his overly affectionate methods manage to get him 7 badges. “We’re almost at the city. Let’s go.”

Y/N sighs. He looks down at the upset Pokémon. “T-Think you can manage to accompany u-us, buddy?” Despite the situation, Skeledirge drops with his upset act and look more determent. “That’s my boy! Let’s go.”

As the three walk through the mountain, the sun sets, and the moon rises. The snowy weather stops, but with it being dark, it’s still cold. Turo remains stoic, as usual. Yet, it his boyfriend continues to suffer.

“Are we almost there?”

“Just a couple of hours.”

“H=Hours?!” Y/N gasps. “It’s dark! I feel tired and feel like crap! There i-is no hotel or something nearby!”

Turo looks back. “Why? We got our tent.”

“We’re sleeping in the tent?” Y/N frowns. “O-Okay, I’m going to die.”

“Don’t overreact so much.” Turo looks around. “Let’s settle there.”

The three heads to a flat area between a couple of trees. Turo is setting up the tent, while Y/N impatiently creates a campfire by shoving a couple of logs on the ground and yelling-

“Flamethrower!”’

Instantly Skeledirge spit out fire. With a half-open mouth, he watches the light flashing in the area. He makes a mental note to avoid cold areas when he’s travelling Y/N. His boyfriend then is quick to get out his cooking supply and begin making food. Quietly, Turo makes the tent and once he’s done, he let it know.

“Tent is set. How about we let our Pokémons out?”

“T-They have to eat. Too bad it’s in the cold…”

Turo merely walks over to their bags to get his Pokéballs first. He let out his Gallade, Volcarona, Delibird, Hariyama, Hydreigon and Tyranitar. Most of the Pokémons realized the situation they’re in and quickly get to the campfire. All except Delibird, who’s quick to greet his trainer by jumping at him to hug him.

“I know. I know. You’re a good boy.” Despite it first finding the affection annoying, he grows accustomed to his Pokémon’s behavior. After some petting, Delibird let go and get to his other friends.

Turo then gets to Y/N’s Pokéballs, freeing Mabosstiff, Glimmora, Houndstone, Tatsugiri and Clodsire. They as well notice the cold and get to the rest. Turo walks and be the last one to join the campfire. There, Y/N cooks everyone’s food.

“O-One at the time, guys. I have to cook for 14, y’know? It takes time.”

Turo sits beside his boyfriend, closely since it’s cold. Y/N is focused on the food. He’s always the one who’s doing the cooking. Because of that, he always has the rule to feed the Pokémons first before himself and Turo. Usually, he merely gives them something easy to make and basic food. However since it’s cold, he’s sure they want something hotter.

Several minutes later, and Y/N cooked the last meals, giving one to himself and Turo. In the background, all the Pokémons are eating the food happily. “Here you go.”

“Thank you.” The two begin eating. During which, he begins to chat. “Do you intend to train after the 8th badge?”

“Yes. The league is something on their own. I-I need a solid strategy with a great team. Once we figure something out, we get what we need.”

“Good.” Turo responds. “Know my Pokémons are willing to fight for you.” He then looks at Delibird, who eats away his food. “Some are stronger than others, keep that in mind.”

“Don’t be so mean. He’s a sweetie.” Y/N defends him.

“He’s too sweet. Speaking of which, I will never uncover the mystery he likes me more then you.”

“O-Opposites attracts, I guess. Kinda like us.”

“You could say that.” Turo agrees. “Does that mean you relate with Delibird?”

“Honestly, yeah. You too look s-stoic whenever I’m being nice to you.”

Turo looks back at him, being somewhat offended. “I do not. I remember being very happy during our first date.”

“Yes, but that was a long time ago. You’re used to it.” Y/N argues back.

“What do you want then? Get married?”

“We’re 17. W-We can’t get married.”

“Yet.”

Y/N sighs, while Turo is smirking cheekily. Both of them laugh. Afterwards, they continue to eat their dinner.

In their tent, both guys are sleeping in their sleeping bags. Although one of them is suffering from the cold then the other. It only takes some time before Turo notices it. Once his eyes open, he can see Y/N shivering from the cold. The tech-man sits up to look closer at his boyfriend. He’s vast asleep, but he’s still suffering.

Turo knows he needs to do something. He looks at Y/N’s sleeping bag to see it’s quiet spacey. The slick haired man gets out of the bag and carefully get in Y/N’s. Once in, he put his arm around Y/N to hug him, trying to give him some warmth.

Hours has passed and Y/N opens his eyes. He’s quick to notice the cold once again and curls up. That’s when he notices something warm behind him. He turns his head to see Turo sleeping. Y/N only can smile, thankful he has such a great and caring boyfriend.

“T-Turo, wake up…”

In front of his face, he can see the black haired man waking up. He let out a yawn before responding. “Good morning, Y/N.”

“Morning. I didn’t know I had to be freezing in order to get you spooning with me.”

“You’re no good when you’re dead.”

“Is it really that hard to flirt back?” Y/N chuckles. “I know you did it because of the cold, but at least say something flirty.”

Turo smirks. “How about… I like to feel your body against me?”

“Good start.” Y/N sits up, as does his boyfriend. “Let’s get some breakfast and move. The sooner we get the last badge, the sooner we can leave this damn mountain.”

Since Y/N is done with the snow and the cold, he and Turo decided to have a pitstop in Montenevera. Both of them remember very well when Y/N got his sixth badge. The slick teen remembers how much his boyfriend trained for the gym, worried whether he’s going to lose, only to steamroll through the gym. He only can hopes this will happen for the last gym too.

The plan now is doing any last training, rest and strategize a plan. That’s what both teens had in mind. However, what Turo hadn’t in mind is the place where they’re going to rest and strategize after the training.

“…And since it’s going to be an ice type gym, I plan to send Skeledirge and use Torch Song to go through the biggest chunk of the opponent’s Pokémon. If Skeledirge goes down, Glimmora is next and put out the toxic spikes. Then we sweep with Venoshock. If there is any chance she gets down, I use Mabosstiff and Houndstone, since Clodsire is weak against ice and Tatsugiri is screwed when the opponent has Freeze Dry. Basically I’m planning to do a sweep. What do you think?”

“Remind me again we’re in a hot spring?”

Inside of a hotel, Y/N demanded to go somewhere warmer and decided to go the hot springs. That leaves both teens in their towels in the warm water. Since they got some extra money, they got a privet bath. Their Pokémons are enjoying the bath as well, whether in the water or at the side.

 “To see you naked. Now answer the question.”

Turo isn’t really used being in a relationship, especially doing the lovey-dovey part. This includes the spicy parts as well, even seeing his partner almost naked.

“I doubt you’re going to fail. You have the type advantage. With Torch Song and Toxic Spikes you managed to have a great dent to the gym’s team at least. …Though I have to say, this is almost always your strategy.”

“Offense is the best defensive. Besides, I got the opportunity. I have always the advantage or equal with the gym’s team. Why fix it when it isn’t broken?”

“I doubt that isn’t going to work with the league. But when you see the opportunity, do it.”

It’s the last day for the gym challenger carrying just 7 badges as they walk towards the Glaseado gym. Since it’s just around the corner, it doesn’t take long before they get to the skiing part.

“I h-hate the cold… s-so much.”

Turo can’t help but sigh. “I’m going to be so happy once we leave this mountain.”

“And I’m n-not going back.”

“I know.” Turo begins to feel a bit tired with Y/N’s complaining. If there were more cold areas in the region, he doesn’t know how to deal with his boyfriend. Right now though, he focuses on the goal.

Speaking of which, both teens see the gym building up high on the peak of the mountain. “There is the gym.” Turo comments, as he looks back at Y/N. “This is going to be it. You’re going to beat this gym, and you’re going to participate with the league. Just keep with the strategy, like always, and win.”

And so Y/N did. Outside of the gym court, Y/N is showing off the last badge as he stands besides his team and Turo. With a smirk on his face, Y/N proudly shows of the badge, while Turo only looks proud.

“You did. I knew you had it in you. Now we just have to train and strategize for the league. I start researching straight away.”

“No, the f-first thing I want right now is to get away from this dumb mountain!” Y/N impatiently complains. “It s-sucked the first time, it sucked more the second time. Let’s g-get a cap ASAP.” He puts the badge away is quick to look around for the nearest cap flyer.

All Turo does is sigh, but he does smile. Despite his behavior, Turo knows it’s temporary. All that is left to defeat the league. Once his beloved did, he can finally enter Area Zero without any problem and let his dreams become true.

anyway, good question. I picked based off of the final evolutions.

Meowscarada was always out of the question because of how bad grass/dark is defensively, and it competes with darkfu. darkfu wins every time.

Skeledirge is cool, but I’m not its biggest fan. Its base speed stat is underwhelming for a sweeper, and you can’t do much to change that in Singles. Especially because of how much it likes hdb.

That leaves Quaquaval, which I’m fine with. Aqua Step is decent when you’re boosting your attack instead with Moxie and a choice band can put it where it needs to be with damage output. And in such a switching-focused metagame as singles, being locked into it is fine as long as you switch later. Besides, it’s weakness in grass types is negated by a nice switch-in from sap sipper goodra.

HOT TAKES ON THE NEWLY LEAKED SV POKÉDEX

I didn’t mean to see the leaks but I’m wayyy too curious oops. I’m trying to judge these evenly because the pictures we have of the unannounced Pokémon are low quality but I will review this when the game releases!

This post obviously contains spoilers so be warned!!!!

Overall I think the starters are pretty cool! Meowscarada owns my heart and soul I love it’s design soooo much. I never cared if it was bipedal or not and although I would’ve preferred a badass bipedal lynx I’m so happy with what we’ve got (ITS A MAGICIAN GUYS!!!! A MAGICAL CAT!!!). Quaquaval is also really cool, especially the colours omg. I just wish it was a pirate or sailor because as far as I’m aware we don’t really have a pirate inspired Pokémon (also we’ve had two skinny water types in two generations, huh). Skeledirge is probably the most disappointing. A lot of people were correct in predicting a skeletal ghost crocodile but the execution of the final design is just awkward?? I hope when I see it in game my opinion is changed because Fuecoco deserves the world.

The regional(?) birds look kinda boring (they actually look kinda like Tailow and Swellow) but I’m comparing them to how cool Corviknight looked so it’s a little unfair. Their names are super cool though

Nymble and Lokix are not my favourite regional bugs but I guess I just prefer cuter bug friends

Squawkabilly are interesting. When they were snuck into one of the trailers I hoped they’d evolve into a proper Elvis-like bird so I could name one Kass but nope it’s just got different colours which I guess is kinda cool?

Smoliv on the other hand was done justice. Dollive is SUPER cute and it’s final unnamed evo is fine but it’s kinda hard to tell what’s going on. If I wasn’t choosing Sprigatito I’d have one on my team

Overall opinion: yeah this Gen isn’t great. I wasn’t wowed by all the designs like how I was when SWSH came out. My favourites are Meowscarada, Quaquaval, Dachsbun, Dolliv and Baxcalibur and that’s pretty much it for the new Pokémon shown in the leaks. Gamefreak missed out on a lot of cool design opportunities and instead chose the lazier route (and I’m usually not one of those Pokémon fans that scream at Gamefreak for cutting corners but I will admit it’s kinda shit)

Continuing the Violet Adventures.

Gym Team Larry.  Larry, I’m sorry.  I didn’t mean to own you so hard.  Brambleghast just could not be harmed by Komala or Dudunsparce.  Komala required me to attack for Sucker Punch, which apparently still counts even if I’m asleep and not really attacking.  Go figure.  If he hadn’t gotten a sudden crit on Brambleghast with Aerial Ace (I shifted to Ghost tera), we would’ve swept with just that one.  If I were smart, I would’ve switched to Naclstack to just sit on it forever.

Nemona’s fight, by contrast, was a lot scarier.  I couldn’t switch to Quaxwell, which initially made me scared because I know damn well that Lycanroc has Bite.  But I tried, and got my shit slapped a bit.  Mabosstiff handled it, then bit through Goomy, but had to throw back to Brambleghast for Pawmo.  The scary part was Torch Song Skeledirge.  Quaxwell was slower, because this thing is made of sludge, and after it killed Brambleghast, we were not in a great position.  Thankfully, Aqua Jet landed a crit and barely managed to finish the job it otherwise wouldn’t have.  This is the only time the opponent dialogue about how well timed the crit was actually held true, because ooooh man.  I had Focus Sash Naclstack in the back ready to finish the job, but still.

Larry may have gone down easy, but at least he tried.  Ryme feels like another point of proof that main series doesn’t care to teach about Double battles by making them really easy.  Mabosstiff and Garganacl just obliterated her, which is expected to a degree, but the crowd boosting my offenses and her own Mimikyu continuing to Shadow Sneak Garganacl until it died off Rocky Helmet is just embarrassing.

Tulip’s gotta deal with the problem of me having Mabosstiff, so like...good luck, girl.  Mabosstiff destroyed her opener, Brambleghast handled Gardevoir, Espathra got the drop on Brambleghast but Rabsca revived it, with Dudunsparce taking it out.  Dudunsparce paralyzed Florges, then Garganacl finished the job thanks to Salt Cure/Recover.  I kept waiting for it to be full paralyzed, but that only happens when I’m inflicted with it.  Still, no deaths.  The pre-battle with Nemona was substantially harder.  Granted, that’s in part because I led Brambleghast again, and didn’t know Nemona would fight me here.

Grusha...didn’t fare much better.  Garganacl immediately killed Frosmoth as it set Tailwind.  Beartic was a 2HKO, we survived with 1HP.  I let it drop against Cetitan, but went to Mabosstiff for Intimidate, then to Rabsca to revive Garganacl, then back to Mabosstiff for another Intimidate and a Lick paralysis, then Garganacl could Recover up with ease while Rocky Helmet took it out.  Altaria is honestly really weak offensively, so surviving that was really not an issue in the slightest.

Team Star Atticus got his by the #Clodsweep, which is unfortunate because I know his team is scary.  Impish Clodsire with Recover is just too huge for him.

Ortega, however, is a complete wussbag.  You might think hey, that’s not fair, you have Clodsire, of course it was easy.  But because of Charm, I had to swap it out to deal with that lack of damage.  Bellibolt proceeded to completely blast him apart.  Like, no resistance.  We weren’t even on level, we were like level 45.  Dunked, kid.

Titan Team Orthworm is relatively challenging when you don’t have a good specially offensive option that can hit its weakness.  My best was Careful Charcadet with Incinerate, and it...did not do great, given how easily it could slap Charcadet’s shit open.  Iron Tail spooky.

Iron Treads is a massive pain.  I never never tell what level I’m supposed to be for it, but the ridiculous speed makes it incredibly hard to manage.  Even with Ceruledge.  Then again, being level 36 may have something to do with it.  I caught the Iron Treads that appears afterward, and it’s level 45, so...that’s probably what I’m supposed to be.  OOPS.

Hilariously, Tatsugiri is really easy.  Like, Meowscarada absolutely shits on Dondozo, and Tinkaton blanks Tatsugiri just fine.  So it was actually easier than Iron Treads, despite I think being higher level.  I guess that kinda confirms it, at least for me.  The desert Titan is the toughest to handle.

So far so good, only Eri left.  I’m running out of places to go, though.  I basically have the north, and Socarrat Trail, as the only areas to train against.  For three teams.  I think I’m going to keep the Gym Challenge team where they’re at.  Ie, sub-50.  I know, Geeta caps at 62, I may be setting myself up here as a non-EV trained team.  But also I have some plans and we’re going to see how they go.  I’m absolutely pushing the Team Star team up to 56.  I refuse to be even one level below Eri and her bullshit.  I fucking hate that Starmobile so much.  All that’s left then is actually clearing the League run, and deciding which team conquers The Way Home.

That being said, while I’m not entirely happy they decided to combine lessons learned with Braixen and Salazzle Sprig is still my fav starter and deserves better than being boxed just because their evolution looks like they should be making cat puns and robbing museums.

Author chan: Ha ha ha, Sorry sorry, those are just my thoughts. Unpopular opinion, I know (especially in these parts of the woods) I just don’t like it. And I’m not boxing them because of the things said in the rant, I just prefer Skeledirge overall, and talking about it made me realize “wow. I should actually just box them” Like. I TRIED to use them, and tried giving it a chance, but I don’t really feel a connection with them, EVEN THO I NAMED IT AFTER MY OWN CAT. Like. Mans been with me for 30 hours so far and I feel more connection to a Fuecoco I got from a friend recently more than it, EVEN THO I hated Fuecoco from the start. (Tbh fire types are just better than grass types. Yes I will die on that hill.)

😂 Sorry I made Sprig fans mad, but I just don’t like Meowscarada, and that’s coming from someone who loves Incineroar/other anthro like pokemon. It’s design isn’t appealing to me at all. This is why I stuck an everstone on my Sprigatito in my livestreams immediately. She is never evolving. Gonna have a Level 100 powerhouse Sprigatito.

Gym Challenge: Quaquaval, Garganacl, Rabsca, Brambleghast, Mabostiff, Dudunsparce

Team Star: Skeledirge, Dolliv, Cetitan, Clodsire, Farigiraf, Bellibolt

Titans: Meowscarada, Ceruledge, Pawmot, Espathra, Tinkaton, Glimmora

It works...better than expected.  Exploration is so severe that actually, all the teams keep up reasonably with levels, with a bit of give.  I keep the Team Star team on level, because the Starmobiles are fucking stupid and I hate them, while the gym team is kept around 3 levels lower.  Titans...I don’t know their levels, so what happens happens.  Most of the team isn’t evolved yet.

The gym team has cleared through Kofu.  Katy wound up being mildly threatening, because Fury Cutter kept not missing and we were in big danger.  Brassius is actually mildly terrifying.  Sudowoodo is pretty high statistically for that point in the game, and Trailblaze makes it super fast.  If Dunsparce didn’t immediately smack it with speed drops into Maschiff’s Intimidate, we’d be in trouble.  Iono, of course, is terrifying, because of Levitate Mismagius with Charge Beam.  I legitimately tried, but she wound up boosting so severely that we had to rely on a miss, or Dunsparce’s Flail wouldn’t have put it in range for Water Tera Aqua Jet Quaxwell.  So that’s fun.  Kofu is a wussbag.  No deaths, went completely as planned, get bodied.  Larry, I’m coming for your ass next.

Team Star has been mildly annoying, but nothing atrocious.  I’m more afraid of Eri than anything.  That one’s stupid.  I’m sorry, but infinite PP 100BP move with beneficial effects on a thing with like, what, 5x possible max HP?  It’s annoying.  I hate it.  I hate it so much.  I do not know why I didn’t set Meowscarada team there.  Espathra has Speed Boost.  I could kill with that.

The titans are pretty easy so long as you’re reasonably within their level.  The only one I’m super scared of is Iron Treads.  That one can really get out of hand.  So we’ll...we’ll see how it goes.

I actually did these first because of Glimmet.  It’s basically impossible to find, and I wanted to run it, so I resolved to just start the egg-making process.  And guys.  Guys, you’ll never guess what I found in like the first cave past Levincia.  You’ll never guess what was just right there.  I’m annoyed.

I am also attempting to complete the dex.  Thanks to the one free box from Home, I can transfer over some of the trade evolutions from Legends, and the version exclusives from Scarlet.  So we’re less than 100 away from complete.  The only two I am worried about are Slowking and Palafin.  I believe both can be found in raids, so if I can find them, we win.  Otherwise, this is going to be...really frustrating.  We’ll see how it goes.  I will say, I’m pissed about the rewards for dex completion.  Where the hell is Ice Stone?  I need one for Cetitan, and it’s so horrifically delayed.

Anyway, so far so good!  We’ll see if the dex thing works out.  Stay tuned.
