Hii!! I just am getting out of high school and since I am in a graphic design class and do art, my economics teacher suggested that I start selling my work and doing commissions. I know that your art isn't the same as that but I was wondering if you had any suggestions of how to get started is the art sphere? Like which platforms should I advertise my art one? The biggest one I have seen is Instagram and Tiktok but I am hesitant to use either cause of Instagram using your posts as AI training data and Tiktok being video content, which i am not interested in. Any input is appreciated!

Even though my art isn't 1:1 to this I do have some experience and thoughts about getting started. Graphic design (my profession) and Illustration/art (my hobby) are two very different spheres though, so I'll break down a couple thoughts on each. For graphic design, any kind of client work is going to start to get you ahead and also get you thinking about what kind of work you like doing/want to get paid to do. Since soooo many things fall under the umbrella of graphic design (packaging, logos, websites, events, branding, motion, marketing, etc etc etc) starting to make real things and figuring out how the elements all work together is super important. You don't have to be able to do everything, but showing and knowing which areas you can help a team with will be great for getting those initial internships and junior designer positions. This could look like anything from designing logos for family and friends, to making up a pretend coffee shop and designing what the cups and signs and instagram feed might look like all together. Maybe design a website or two. Have fun and get it posted to a portfolio website (there are a lot of free options). The more things you finish, the better your portfolio will get, and the more you will know. Done is better than perfect. Get scrappy. For illustration, my experience is mostly with social posting and convention stuff. Draw as much as you can all the time, fill your sketchbooks with fun and bad and ugly art that you enjoy making to get in the habit and get loose. Then just like for graphic design, work on finishing stuff. The more you finish, the more you'll figure out your process to finish things. Done > Perfect once again. Post wherever you want (i also dont like tiktok bc i dont make video/motion stuff, and i mostly just use insta for keeping other artists' contacts - i probably only post about 10% of what i make there, but it is a nice one to have.) From there, start offering cheap commissions or requests to get used to working with other people's ideas (I think i started with $5 sketches that i could do in 10ish minutes back in 2011). I don't do public commissions anymore, but I did for many, many years and making sure you're smart with your time is a big tip (its why the sketch/lines/full color + halfbody/fullbody character price sheets are so popular. An artist offering these knows about how long it takes them to draw each combination and sets their price accordingly, more time = more money). As for selling at stuff like conventions or art shows, start small! See if you can get space at a small local fair or art market! Make and sell 10 finished things. Don't set your heights on the biggest, most competitive stuff right off the bat, or try to manage inventory for 100 items. That can all come later.

The "art sphere" is kind of a crazy place, and there are infinite ways to approach getting started. You do you. These tips are mostly targeted at career-style advice, but plenty of people are just here to have fun, and it really is way easier to keep the passion alive when you're making/expressing stuff for just yourself - balance work and play!! The only thing we all have in common is a love for making things!

my new years resolution is to block everything having to do with vivziepop for the sake of my mental health after being a on and off fan whos stuck it out since 2019, and i think i feel so bad about it, because i still feel this deep sense of injustice at everything viv has gotten away with. im left with all this knowledge of her misdeeds, (the playbill BS where she wouldnt be honest about the delays on twitter, the one website she cant seem to stop using, her near nepo baby origins she lies about, the ghost fuckers millie suicide attempt leak, her lying about hh being delayed because of the 2023 hollywood strikes, the multiple taxidermy peacocks, viv asking her own crew for money for the $5000 lackadaisy producer donation where mel implies it was a "group effort" in a deleted tweet, all the people shes screwed over like dave and ashley and ken and kyra and erin, the recent livestream signing she deleted just a day afterwards for seemingly no reason, the transphobia screenshots even though i KNOW thats her, she posted a discord light mode screenshot with her and sam talking about how no one knew what she meant with that same exact pfp on her twitter after she announced they could finally release queen bee, and now you cant even find it easily because of her privating her twitter,) that i cant do ANYTHING about since fans dont care and youtubers dont care because *lyle lipton voice* Money, and can only hope that when these shows are closer to their end in 4 to 6 years from now, that someone with a platform can talk about this growing pile of evidence that shows that she might not be a great person after all. its just a burden to carry at this point. fan content doesnt make me happy, rewrites dont make me happy, and even critique i AGREE WITH doesnt make me happy anymore, because a majority of people refuse to address the ROOT of these issues due to a "separate the art from the artist" mentality, even though with how much creative control she has over these projects, i think its near impossible to do that. and i do truly think the root of all of them is viv and no one else, im sorry to say, even if that does sound like a personal attack like SC says. (genuinely, why would that be a personal attack? and even if it is, why should i care? since viv is 10 times richer then most people like me will ever be anyway? cant she just turn her phone off and buy herself more things to make her happy and show off on her insta, instead of learning how to make sincere connections like the average person does when they dont have that much disposable income?) maybe people will eventually catch onto this stuff. maybe they wont. but it wont be my problem anymore, and i'll avoid spindlehorse like the plague until i can binge watch everything in one fell swoop, instead of waiting with baited breath for something i know will inevitably disappoint me. but i wish the best of luck to anyone who will stay for the ride into the new year and beyond until it finally ends!

hello!! here's a little brush tour ft. this half rendered martin.

also, a great app for ipad artists who really want to dig into texture is art set 4. i swear by it and i've been using it for about two years. none of my more recent art uses it, but that's just because i'm experimenting with my process rn

so here's a list of my most used brushes lately, and there will be links to all of them at the bottom of this post.

the two labeled "custom pencil" are both my own personal modified pencils (both sourced from the 6b pencil) but the narinder pencil and the vanilla 6b pencil are both very similar to them. i use these two for sketching and flat color specifically, and if you do specifically want these two brushes then i'd be happy to upload them somewhere for you to download, but they're not really necessary for texture

i also use G&B halftone brushes sometimes! but i greatly prefer the RSCO sample pack, and i cannot find the link to the G&B brushes no matter how hard i google, and pretty much any halftone brush set will do the same job

and here's what they look like in practice!

(i like to set these halftones to color burn. color burn is my most used blending mode, even for shading)

and then i hit "copy all," paste, and duplicate it. so you should have two layers of just your entire canvas. then import a paper texture

i'm partial to the set i'll link down below, my favorite is #5. you should absolutely check out the rest of the free texture packs on their website if you're wanting to diversify your texture process btw, all of their stuff is fantastic.

to use that texture, your layers should look like this!

on the layer set to the linear burn, i also like to go into the adjustments menu and bump up the brightness until all of the colors are at similar values to what they were before. and the normal layer on top is just to control the intensity/opacity of the paper texture!

after all of that, sometimes i'll go in with brushes like MM rake follow, or more from COFE's weird pencils, on top of all of those layers for finishing touches.

definitely play around with it, try new free brushes all of the time (i heavily recommended subscribing to Manero. they have a lot of free stuff and it's all fantastic) and see what works for you <3

Hey everyone! I'm still not super online at this time, but as everything around us (both online and off) keeps going more and more off the rails, I just wanted to state here that, should anything happen, you can always find me here as long as neocities still stands. And even then, I'd probably just look for another website hoster and republish my site.

Like, I dunno, we're in an age where the business model of the modern internet seem to be failing even the biggest companies. I never used to get too freaked out over the years as tumblr's userbase faced the occasional 'we might be losing tumblr, everyone panic!!' trend. However, particularly with the recent death knell of 4chan, which always felt like such an immutable force on the internet, it's just kinda made me realize just how little the continued existence of any website is a given. Tumblr is a dumpster fire run by a skeleton crew of wildly unpopular transmisogynists. I just can't bring myself to care about my presence there anymore.

So anyway, with that in mind, I turn back to neocities, and sites like it. Here, this website is mine. I have full access to the html, css, and scripts that make up my website. If I jumped my entire life from one burning ship (like tumblr or twitter etc) to another (like insta or bsky or anything Run By Someone Else), then who's to say I won't spend a year breaking my back to reestablish my online presence based out of a site like that, just for it to also close or disappoint in some way?

Along that note, it's also just hard to Want to get into a new social media site, if I'm being perfectly hornets right now. Mega networking sites certainly do have their uses for many people, but for me, it just does not feel good anymore to feel so constantly in the eyes of so many unknowable strangers. Right now, I want my online presence to move out of the loud, busy city, out into the remote country, where it's mostly my friends and the occasional passersby that are the only ones that ever come through.

I don't really have anywhere specific I was going with this. I guess I just wanted to say that, if the sites or services we use to interact ever go down, you can always find me here. If I ever do get set up on any new sites, I'd plan on linking to them from here - this is probably just gonna end up being my primary presence on the internet once tumblr finally smolders out. If you want to follow me across the internet, you'll be able to find the stuff I get into here.

By the way, one last note. This is just an open letter to my friends, the people I've interacted with, or the people who wanted to but for one reason or another, never did. I am so sorry you had to watch my highspeed social crash-and-burn in real time over the past several years. Maybe I'll write more on it later, but for now, just know that I hope I get to talk to you again someday. I really do. I'm sorry I can't keep up with you all through the crash-and-burn of the rest of the internet along with my own, but if you wanted to keep me bookmarked to come find me again someday, I would be so immensely grateful. I hope I can stay in touch with the people I care for, and the people who care for me.

And at the end of the day, I just hope the world is kind to us all.

Love Sea Ep 2 Watch Along

I am a couple days late because migraines suck, but I'm finally sitting down to watch ep 2. I'm gonna try to gives some first inpressions here, but we'll see how we go.

-Opening shot and I accidentally caught crew in the back of the boat. Hehe...whoops. Can't always catch that.

-When he says "what this man's sex taste like" does he mean literally or figuratively??? Like...I'm just not sure if it's wonky translation, or ???

-Okay, but the way Mut put's their legs together, but keeps their torso's apart....like touching, but not invading Rak's space....that's kinda hot.

-I do come from a seafood family, literally my maternal grandparents ran a seafood restaurant for over a decade, but I'm not a seafood person, so I kinda feel like the food stuff is going over my head.

-Like...I knew it was gonna happen, but I'm still blushing so hard. That eye contact is DANGEROUS.

-Peat's muscles!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!

-Literally Rak is so cranky that he hurt himself and cut off sexy time. His grumpy face.

I love Mook so much. I would die for her, she's so precious.

I love how quickly Rak takes advantage of the loophole Mut presents him with. He immediately is like "you are correct, this is not my bed, let's bang!" (Also I fucking loved this line in the trailer. It's quippy, it's clever, Fort delivers it so well. Perfection.)

I was predicting the whole "I'm inspired, we gotta go back to my room right now", but that did not stop it from being funny as hell.

Is Tongrak basically Mame's self-insert?? I just thought about this, bc they used the MMY logo for the fake website, probably just so they didn't have to bother with getting a non-copywritten one, or pay to use a real one, but like I just thought about this, since he's a writer who writes Y-Series, and part of what P'Vie does (I'm pretty sure) is make them into shows.... fascinating to consider.

We do see the cover for The Boy Next World, both the BN one and the orignal manga-style one...interesting.... As well as the cover for Love Director, which is one of the novels directly related to the LITA side of the Mame-verse....also interesting.

Rak's fake insta is hot. I tell you what, Mame shows got their issues, but costuming is pretty much always on point.

Okay so P'Vie is an actress...still involved with Rak's shows, but not the director I guess.

I really do get distract by how pretty Peat's eyes are.

Okay, Though he was just showering, but then I saw the motion... the blushing begins again. (Look I know I've written smut, and I watch BL, but I'm still Ace, so a lot of times my reaction is very Edwardian noble lady. I'm sorry!)

No, but I paused it to write that last sentence and the look on Rak's face!!!!

Rak is very bite-y. It suits his character, really. I Like it.

That was....very athletic.

I have thoughts about the sex scene. I'll save those for the 'Thoughts' post though.

I do think it's funny that Rak is so disturbed because the sex was good. That's funny.

Side note, I know this is an adult show, it includes a lot of adult themes, but somehow the Hallmark Movie-ness of Mame's shows makes it feel very weird when people cuss. Like, it feels odd for Rak to say Fuck there. It somehow just gives the vibe of 'see how grown-up we are with the cussing'. IDK if that makes sense, or if anyone else feels that way.

Mook's reaction to the forehead kiss is so cute, but P'Vie's got two episodes to get her act together, or I'm gonna start to dislike her.

I still don't remember the name of Mut's friend (I'm sorry) but I do think he's very funny. The actor is doing a very good job.

I know IRL, I would hate the entitledness/possessive-ness of Rak, but that was kind hot.

I love how amused Mut is by Rak. It's one of the things that feels like Fort peeking through tbh.

Oops...none of us did consider that a considerably long motorbike ride the day after some pretty vigorous back door sex may not be the best idea. But also, I feel like this is part of why prep/aftercare is important, and they (meaning BLs) should focus on it more. Like it's wouldn't fix everything, but it would help.

Oh, I really do like Mut's friend...who's name is Palm....I will try to remember.

I doubt this was Mame's intention, but I do appreciate the discussion of how franchised tourism can be harmful to local residents.

Flashback!!! Yes, another bingo box, but also...why do drama parents always break up directly in front of their kids?

There's a metaphor happening about not diving alone and the flashbacks and reconciling his traumas in relation to love/trusting men (in a romantic way)....my brain is too stupid to make a cohesive explanation, but it's there.

I love the way Mut just looks at Rak... like it's fascinating how much Fort is able to portray with his gaze. I thought that during LITA, but it's confirmed here. Because, yes the longing/loving gaze is alive and well, but you can see the concern, the confusion, even the questioning that's happening. It's wild.

Well that's all for the episode. I'll probably rewatch tomorrow and thry to organize my thoughts into something vaguely cohesive, but no promises. Despite the very swift jump into the sex, we got a lot of insight today, into to both of them really.

Cosplayers! What are your methods for tracking and planning your cosplays? Notes app? Notebook? Spreadsheet? Your brain? (How do you manage?) If I may propose another tool, Cosgear's cosplay planner!

This website and app have been in development for around a year, and I've been using it just as long. Its honestly my favorite way to organize my processes. You've got a section for your basics, like the character, series, budget, and deadline, and of course a place to put your tasks like what to buy and what to make. I love that the tasks can be organized by what part of the cosplay it pertains to, like weapon or helmet or pants, whatever you want! Theres also a nifty view for just the things you need to buy, ideal for shopping trips so your list is all in one place.

I've been using this app to help me work on Biker from Hotline Miami. Being able to go step by step through each piece has been so satisfying, and I can store progress photos in the app as evidence of my work if I were to ever do a cosplay contest! (Which I might be we'll see)

Another fun thing you can do with those progress photos? Theres a built-in social media feed where you can post your progress, including sharing your techniques and materials! Progress photos on Instagram can be hit or miss for engagement, but in a place built around progress, it makes sense to have, and I've found some real neat work!

On your profile, each cosplay has a page, where again you can add materials and techniques, as well as share links and even your shopping list. Good cosplayers don't gatekeep!

Or if you don't want to mess with any of that social media stuff? Totally fine, it's all optional. Cosplays can be made private, the Planner is your landing page, and hype can be hidden.

Final thing, this tool is constantly being updated and worked on. There's ocasional bugs and maybe theres things you'd like to see that aren't already around. There's a discord server for that! The Cosgear team is super open to suggestions and because of people like me, the community reference library requires sources for its images.

Off hiatus...?

So! it's been a loooong year, but it it's time to finally look back and review a little about what I've been doing...

It's officially been a year since I made these posts about my stroke (back then, I had not made any reblogs since the 23rd of June, I was hospitalized on the 26th, and I had entered rehab on July 6th. As you may note, I've been back on tumblr long since my hiatus explanation.

(However, now I look back and see I hadn't actually posted any creations - writing, art, edits, or otherwise since April of 2023. 😬Yeesh. I hope to change that during July or August. Before my stroke, I was coming home from spring semester on campus, and I was already planning to take a break from my studies for at least the summer and fall, and had hoped my writer's block would relieve itself after Father's Day and I had adapted to being home again.)

Anyway! What's been up more recently/how am I feeling? — Pretty good. Started feeling much more like myself partway in April this year, when I felt I could tap into the 'flow' of creative thoughts, for writing, and they were coming easier, and I was getting excited about getting back into it, and art, and other media. However, I decided to wait til I had some ideas planned, and to get more medical stuff handled.

I still have a lot to do over the latter half of this year, but I thought the anniversary of the hiatus post would be the best time to make an update. I'll be making other posts as well, including something to pin on my blog, until I have some new media posted.

Plans! — Of course, I’ve played various amounts of Animal Crossing, Pokémon, and other games over the past year, so I hope to share some edits/vids/experiences from them.

Art! — I eventually want to migrate my art either to Ao3, or here on tumblr, or on my own website, but basically just get it off DeviantArt or Instagram, since AI art generators are running rampant on them and other various websites. Not that my art is <that> good, but I don’t want to support websites like DA or Insta as much.

Speaking of, I will eventually be making my own website, and ‘locking’ my Ao3 to only logged in users, so that it will be less likely to be scanned by AI generators. I haven’t done it yet, but expect posts about that soon.

Writing — On the smallest scale of update, I’d revisit my first fic, Inhibitions, that I originally began in Spring of 2013 (I had forgotten I had started it in HS, 😅 sheesh!) I think I’ll be making my own comments on some of the chapters, and I’ll post about them on here as well. It’s still so important to me, as it was cathartic as I dealt with my own depression and anxiety over the near dozen years since, and I want to share part of the writing process, research, or my thoughts now.

Following that, I hope to update Aspirations soon too! Finally I’m figuring out some writer’s block, and wanted to show something for it.

Alongside, I may also have an update for my Star Wars Nouveau AU, on fanfics Aliit or Jedi Scholar soon, but am still figuring out some things on the back-burner.

Of the greatest relevance to me and to those of you in the Sandman fandom, I want to update my Sandman fic, The Nightmare of Orpheus, as again, I’m finally getting through some writer’s block, and I would like to update it before we get the “A Midsummer Night's Dream” episode (next year? Somehow sooner? Who knows?)

— as far as when I’ll actually have any updates before August, I aim to have proper goals set by my birthday, July 21st, so if I have fallen short, you can at least expect me to make a progress update then!

And on a sidenote - they are quite terrible in announcing things. Like for instance, right now, there's nothing about Till releasing new song next Friday, his insta is probably just going to post about it on the day. So I wouldn't be surprised if official Rammstein drop something like "TOMORROW!" Like thanks for giving me a heart attack!

And yes, their PR is shabby, sorry to say... i mean, at the start of the 2023 it seemed like things were picking up a bit, also with those #rifftorammstein clips, that had potential, but after the allegations started, things were toned down again. Fortunately we did get the summary after each venue, but i think they deliberately kept it lowkey so as not too seem 'celebrating' when those stories were out there.

I wonder indeed how everything that has been going on this year will impact the plans Rammstein had, they were never media favorites in Germany, but i somehow had hoped for a little 'thawing' of the situation for their 30 year anniversary.. 🥺 So for now i'll be happy if something will drop next year (and yes, that a bit of promotion happens).

Till's media team i don't know much about, but they seem more active when promoting his work (well, apart from his Rammstein stuff 😄 but i already complained about that in another ask-answer 😇); i wonder if the new song was leaked a bit too soon by some outlets, but surely if it drops, it will be on Till's website and social media 🌺

i also sell jewelry on tumblr and insta, and people may genuinely be getting turned off by the "dm to comment or claim" sale method. i think people generally prefer being able to go through a more formal venue where they know they'll have tracking and such, and it protects you and reduces your chances of being scammed. have you considered selling through etsy or shopify? i do etsy, it isn't ideal but their fees aren't the worst and it's cheaper to ship through them than to buy the labels myself which kind of splits the difference on the fees anyways (and the cheaper shipping is probably also more appealing to customers.) etsy's search also boosts visibility a little. i'll rb some of your posts to hopefully get them a bigger audience too, best of luck 👍

Week 5 - Create Soft Protoypes & Surfacing Ideas

Wow week 5 already that's crazy..

With the post it notes from my both POV statements, the ideas that I focused the most on are:

Distorted idea of current self

Attachment to idea of desired self

Collection of nostalgic things

Journaling/Documentation

Fear of missing out

For this week, I made prototypes of how I could communicate my POV statements and ideas!!!!!! Here is what I came up with! :))

Prototype #1: Book Journal Based off an idea received a few weeks ago in class, I was thinking of making a book journal about the other version of myself. I was thinking about journal entries as their life goes on, including the difficulties they deal with. I thought it would be cool to follow a narrative where the person has an existential crisis that ties back into my original prompts about the decisions in our lives.

Prototype #2: Photobook Similar to the Book Journal, it was going to be a collection of either altered photos of myself as the musician or 3D models/renders. Here is the basic layout.

Prototype #3: Social Media Sort of in connection with everything, I was thinking of creating a social media (insta? tumblr?) where I live as another version of myself. Combining the book journal idea with the photobook and give it a more digital aspect.

Prototype #4: Website/Package/Commercial For my previous class where I dealt with a similar topic, I created a website, called BrandNewMe, where it gave the person the option of changing up aspects of themselves, including intelligence, personal finance, appearance, and other random stuff. I was thinking about making a 3D mockup of the package, and/or making a commercial for advertising the site. Main inspiration for this was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. These sketches are just me coming up with what should be included but are not the final designs of the objects.

Prototype #4: 3D Models/ Short Film Like the short film I previously created (and referenced), I was thinking how I could expand that into a longer format with a more direct storyline. I don't have much to say and I don't have a storyboard for this one, but it was an idea of mine so I'll just jot it down here, since I would like to do a video/digital format.

Overall, I think these are cool ideas, but I do not feel very drawn to any of them as a final FINAL project, maybe the commercial one. In the end I might end up mixing them all together to create something, having these ideas be elements in a bigger, final iteration. But who knows.

Honestly, I think I'll also post the entire chapters on here too in case if anything happens to AO3 (I went to use it the other day and it was down), so the fic will be safely preserved! Bygone bits and bytes

How can I end a four-day weekend more stressed than I started it?

Well, a lot of it has to do with caregiving burnout, but the cherry on the shit sundae today was discovering a combination of confusion and executive dysfunction made me lose the domain name I'd had for 25 years.

I hadn't been using it as a personal website for several years, and took down my super old content last fall, but my dad still had some local sports stuff on it. It wasn't a fancy, catchy, high value domain, either. Just our last name with two extra letters tacked on, but noooooo, apparently some domain sniper in Florida decided to snap it up. So if I decide to have a website again someday I'll have to start over with a new name.

My dad had another domain name that redirected to the part he ran, which has also lapsed somehow but hasn't been taken. I suppose I'll have to reregister his domain, get a new hosting plan, and just upload his stuff. He was really having trouble keeping up with it, cognitively, last winter, so I don't know how well it's going to go now. (See above re: caregiver stress.)

It's all made me think about how I REALLY miss the old days of the internet (mid to late 1990s through the early 2000s), before social media took over and made it this cookie-cutter, impersonal, commercialized, transient place. (And yes I realize the irony of posting this on social media.)

Personal websites used to be a common thing, with sections for your various interests and fandoms. Most people used Geocities or a similar freebie host, but the cool kids had their own domain names and ad-free sites. Now it seems like the only people with personal sites are those selling something, and everyone else just uses social media. I miss being able to have full control over the look of my content, with custom backgrounds and layouts and, yes, even funky animated .gifs.

(That's the tip of the iceberg of ancient .gifs lurking in the depths of my computer from the Olden Days.)

Anyway, I used to be able to easily make a website, upload, and manage it, but now when I look at potential web hosts' sites it's an incomprehensible alphabet soup of terms. I can see why nobody wants to learn SQLCSSOMGWTFBBQ in order to have a personal site when it's a heck of a lot easier to just post crap on social media with a few clicks.

Crap. I sound old. In this context, I guess I am.

BACK IN MY DAY, we hard coded HTML barehanded! Uphill! In the snow! You kids today with your Instas and X-es and QR codes on your newfangled phones! When I was a teenager we had a plain text message board to squee over fandoms on, and we LIKED IT! We had guestbooks, page view counters, and web rings! Yahoo! was the go-to search engine and you got real results in an organized manner, none of this sponsored garbage or AI telling us to eat glue. No, we chugged along at 56k and if you didn't make tiny thumbnails of the art you posted that people could choose to click on and then wait a minute or two for a picture to load, you were a pariah. Amazon was a river in South America, and streaming was just a description of someone peeing. We listened to MIDI music on purpose!

I'll stop. But I'm only half kidding. The nostalgia is real.

i was going to comment on one of your recent fics (which i kinda liked) until i saw the abrasive author's note berating people for bookmarking without commenting. you don't know why people bookmark things - for many people, it's equivalent to a recs list. just like fic readers aren't entitled to receive fics, fic authors aren't entitled to receive feedback. i'm saying this as both a fic writer and a reader (both long-term, so i have plenty of experience dealing with a lack of feedback). there are many many reasons why readers choose to leave comments (or not), and as a writer you'll be much more content if you can make peace with the fact that there's very little you can do to change that, and instead encourage the commenters that you do get. it sucks, but it is what it is. desperate and abusive author's notes, however, do turn people off. ps: i asked if you read others' fics because i find it hard to believe that you yourself leave a comment on every single fic you read and fanart you reblog. i'd be happy to be proven wrong, but my point still stands - i understand the desire for more comments, but you're going about it the wrong way.

So, I'm not writing all of this again so go give it a read and come back later. I specified multiple times that ofc saving fics for later without commenting is fine (wouldn't make sense to comment before reading it). And yes, I do comment on every fic I read, multiple times too (I can't guarantee for fics I bookmarked ages ago, but I'm 99.9% sure I always left at least one comment). I don't do it with fanarts because I reblog them compulsively, what I do instead is leave anon messages in the artists' inbox. Although I also leave comments sometimes!

"Abusive" is a strong term, I'm just getting creative because you people are exhausting, as simple as that. As I said in the post I linked (again, read it, thanks) you're all so used to tiktok and such that you think it's okay if people who give you stuff you like for free never get to know your opinion. Wrong. We're humans. We deserve to know what you think. It's the bare minimum.

I'm tired of all that "OMG that fic broke me, I wish I had someome to talk about it with" because we authors are right fucking there.

We are entitled to receive feedback. I've been posting fics for nine fucking years - on an Italian website first, then on AO3 with a different acc that I then deleted, and then with my current one - and reading them for just as long. So excuse me for wanting feedback, excuse me for noticing how the readers' attitute towards giving feedback has shifted now that you're all on tiktok/insta 24/7 constantly bombarded with content that only takes you 10 secs to consume and makes you think "Yeah okay, I can't leave a comment on each and every thing I consume, it'd take longer to leave the comment than to consume the content." (and it's true, like, I know it is)

And trust me, this "if you read without bookmarking you're a jerk" thing is new, check my other fics (I posted over 100 works, but as you can see I only have 40-something now because I delete them compulsively, sorry, orphaning fics isn't for me) and even if you go check the oldest ones (I think the fist fics I posted with my current ao3 acc are from late 2019?) I never said anything. But I'm tired and annoyed. I talked to multiple people here who told me that they'd never thought about this thing until I (and others) shared our honest opinion on it, so, I guess you're kinds on your own in this holy crusade of yours against common decency. Feel free to never read my works again, I'll live.

And I'm not saying you're just finding excuses, but huh, I just checked and the first note regarding this issue is on day 5 (/10 I've written so far) and that one just says "be decent" before I escalated so huh. Yeah. Holy crusade against common decency.

Be fucking for real. Should I put a tw for strong language next time? Is "piece of caca" upsetting? "Meanie"? The only mean one is "cunt" actually. Like I'd be offended too. But the rest? Be for real.

FYI these are all the instances - I didn't add anything to the notes of the other works because I was running out of space. And again, sorry you totally missed the point. Sorry my notes shocked you to the point that you couldn't even comment :o
