Spoilers for like ch22 til 50ish and for anime onlys

SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).

And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and

She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good

And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. I have tried, I've done everything I can't to avoid it, and I still see it. (99% of the posts in this fandom use the grabber tag, I will do a lot to avoid grabber simps but I'm not going to abandon the whole fandom just because some creeps want to make gross shit, not gonna happen, I'm not getting shoved in a corner)

also I have every right to call out people who simp for a child molester, since half of the fics (that I never even looked for to begin with) I've seen heavily involve what he did to those kids in one way or another. it's the internet, I have every right to post what I want, just as much as you have every choice to post what you want; but that doesn't mean I'm not going to shame gross behavior, and make it oh so fucking clear I hate any and every grabber/ghost crew simp, and that I find it disgusting. simple as that.

I don't care what they do or don't think, what they do or don't care about, half of me making that post was to rant because I'm fucking aggravated, it grinds my gears as a fucking victim, so I did what everyone does now a days and I made a post about. another good chunk of reason I made that post is so other victims in my position don't have to feel alone in their anger, not even just other victims, other empathetic human beings who see how this is wrong. honestly, outside of warning grabber simps off my page, I didn't post that to try and shift anyone's minds, because if your fucked up enough to simp for him I have little faith in you as a person. I knew I wasn't gonna change any minds, but I still posted because even one person was forced to reflect because of it, then that's better than nothing.

personally, if after I have done my duty to avoid grabber simps and I still manage to see one, I'm gonna call them out. because I have zero respect or empathy for people who can do that. and it's not just his character, I have a whole list, he's just the one that's relevant right now.

I'm just really fed up with being told to just shut up when I call out pedo simps, like it really fucking sucks. like why should you get away with that, while victims are forced into corners, they're the ones who are supposed to out in the work to avoid this shit. like sit in our corner for a second, think about how we see all this shit.

I was tagged by @aheartfullofjolllly. thank you so much Pat! it was really fun to reflect about my own process 💗 You can find her post here and @lan-xichens' post that started it all here :)

Now Pat gave me two sets to chose from to show my process, so obviously I chose the more complicated one :P

I only work in Photoshop CC 2018. I know that there are programs out there for easier cutting and sharpening but I have only just figured out how to do that in PS and I am too lazy to figure out any other programs right now xD

1. Idea and Planning

This set, like most of my sets with lyrics started with me reading the poem, clutching my heart and going "oh shit this fits my favourite characters!!". The idea actually started with me thinking that the first stanza of the poem would go really well with wwx during the burial mounds arc. Then I realized that the last stanza fits lwj better than him and from there came the idea to contrast the both of them next to each other. This is when I realized I wanted to do a dark-light contrast set, though I did not know that I would go with red and blue at that time. My idea in the beginning was just to do a black and white set

I was really impressed by how Pat said that she plans her sets around exact timestamps. Because I don't do that at all ^^ I just get ideas for which scenes would fit (in this case the wwx burial mounds scenes and lwj's kneeling and punishments scene) and then I watch the scenes to narrow them down.

Back when I made this set, I still used a screenrecorder (AceThinker Screen Grabber Pro to be precise. They have a test version that allows you to record up to 3 minutes) and recorded the scenes I needed from Netflix. This worked well enough but now I have the entire show saved on an external drive and it makes a world of difference when it comes to gif sharpness

Now, in this case I had to repeat this step once because when I was almost finished, I realized that I wanted a gif for the lwj corner but let's pretend I didn't do that and that's the way this gif was always going to look because otherwise this post will be way too long ^^

2. Creation

Short disclaimer: The creation process for this gifset was anything but linear. Multiple effects I used here were things I had never tried before. I just had a vague idea and tried to realize it through trial and error. So whenever I say "then I did xyz", it is implied that I ultimately went back to that step several times and changed stuff ^^

I started with the Wei Wuxian part of the gif. I usually use a frame rate of 0,06 (with some variation depending on gif length and size). I work in timeline so I converted all the layers to a smart layer. Then I resized the gif into a square, leaving big chunks of the gif empty (as can be seen below.) I flipped the gif horizontally, so he is looking inwards. This was simple because I felt it fitted the composition better. Then I imported the Lan Wangji part of the gif, again with a frame rate of 0,06. (Image 2)

After that I created a layer for masking in a separate PS document by rotating a square until it was point down (is that a rhombus?). I sized it to match my gif (540x540 pxl) and copied it over. (Image 3) a bit of masking magic and ta da! There's the basic layout (Image 4)

I put a layer of solid black behind wwx to get rid of the transparent bits (Image 5) and then started adding more white and black to both sides by adding solid whit and black layers that i put masks on and changed the opacity as i needed (Image 6)

Then I fiddled with the colours a bit. The first thing I always do is using the curves layer to get more contrast. Then I use the colour balance tool and the selective colouring tool to get rid of that cql-typical cyan tint after that it's just trying to have it look "natural" while the colours still fit the overall scheme. This was difficult here because wei Wuxian’s side of the gif was very dark and when i turned up the saturation to see which colour dominated it was a very weird mixture of multiple colours. That's when i decided that I'd just go with red on his side, since lwj's side was already so blue and those to look great as contrasts.

After that just came a lot of fiddling with selective colour layers and brightness and contrast unti I has happy. There really wasn't much to it ^^. (Image 1)

After that I added the text. I knew I wanted the two lines to for a square of some kind. So I tried different fonds until I arrived at the one below. The two lines are in seperate layers so I could move them around and change the spacing between the letters until I was happy with the layout. I also changed the layer mode for the text to "difference" (is that what it's called in english? my PS is set to german sorry ^^), keeping their colour white. (Image 2)

I originally hadn't planned adding anything else but I felt like the gifs (plural because I switched between the gifs of this set) was still kind of empty and lacking, so I added the tear down the middle (a tutorial for that is either coming up later or already posted. I recently got an ask for this :)) (Image 3)

It still felt empty after that, so I tried different overlays. Okay no, first I wasted a lot of time on different free image sides but then I tried out different ones until I chose the one you can see in the finished gif. I liked that one because a) I felt the round shape was a nice contrast to all the straight lines already there and b) because once I applied a black and white filter to it and switched the layer setting to "difference" (again, i hope this is the correct translation) it looked a bit like a moon. Although in general, these gifs took so much fiddling! I went back and forth between them a lot and sometimes almost redid the entire thing because I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning and by the time I noticed an error, the only way to fix it was ti redo everything. So yeah, this set definitely is the the one that took me the longest out of all the ones I've posted so far.

3. Posting

I save all my gifs to my drafts first to see what they look like put together and to check if they look any different on mobile. Usually i do this several times and change stuff until I'm happd enough with it to hit post. Once i am happy enough, i can't hold back. Doesn't matter if it's at a time when nobody is online, i hit post 😅

Totally understand if you're not up for it and fully recognize the ronald mcdonald dom/sub anon vibes which is an AMAZING post btw but like...now i'm curious, what the hell did Lord of the Flies anon DO that got him blocked for the discourse? like...i just can't wrap my head around high school lit being...uh...that inflammatory i guess?

Okay so, I'll start by saying I've had a new anon from apparently the same anon saying they are NOT the person I blocked, just a rando making the same points, but I'll answer your question anyway just to set out why this person in particular got blocked, out of the several thousand who reblogged/commented on that very successful addition to the LoTF post I made.

First off, I added the 'real life Lord of the Flies' story because I thought it was a good story. I had read about it only a couple days beforehand in Humankind and, after reading out the entire chapter to my parents who weren't very interested, I was excited that there was not only a post where it would be relevant to post, but that I wouldn't be hijacking it, as it was already rejecting the widespread interpretation taught in many schools, that humanity is inherently savage.

When making the addition, I a) did not think it would get more than a couple reblogs, because the post was already at 50k notes and I figured anyone that might be interested would already have seen it, and b) I did not know the very specific context that prompted William Golding to write the book; all I knew was that he had been a teacher at a public school (basically, the poshest schools in the country - think Eton, Harrow, very 'old money' places that pump out Conservative politicians by the bucket-load 🤢) who hated his job and the boys he taught (which, valid), and new information I'd been given in Humankind - that Golding had said to his wife one day, "Wouldn't it be a good idea to write a story about some boys on an island, showing how they would really behave?" - which had no mention of The Coral Island by R. M. Ballantyne, which I have since learned was the text that Golding loathed enough to write an entire novel in refutation of - and included what I considered a very telling letter from Golding to his publisher, in which Golding wrote of his belief that 'even if we start with a clean slate, our nature compels us to make a muck of it.' Another Golding quote that I believe portrays his belief in humanity's 'innate savagery' is that "man produces evil as a bee produces honey."

Obviously, the author of a book putting forward the case for humanity's inherent goodness was going to oppose Golding's hypothesis; Bregman not only noted Golding's literary accomplishments and beliefs, but his personal life.

When I began delving into the author's life, I learned what an unhappy individual he'd been. An alcoholic. Prone to depression. A man who, as a teacher, once divided his pupils into gangs and encouraged them to attack each other. "I have always understood the Nazis," Golding confessed, "because I am of that sort by nature." (Humankind by Rutger Bregman, p. 24-25)

I have bolded the part about him as a teacher, because it is incredibly relevant to the original post that I commented on, which begins with a comic of a teacher locking her class in to see them 'recreate' Lord of the Flies, something which the follow up comments before mine staunchly reject as both misunderstanding the point of the book, and the fact that it took the kids in Lord of the Flies a significant amount of time without adult supervision to go 'savage'. This misreading of the text is widespread enough that when Golding won the Nobel Prize for Lord of the Flies, the Swedish Nobel committee wrote that his book 'illuminate[s] the human condition in the world of today'. Whether or not they misread it is beyond my expertise - they do at least mention the factors of the outside world neglected by many when analysing the book, but still seem to believe it says something about human nature as a whole rather than just, to quote thedarkbutbeige 'British kids being rat bastards' - but Golding quite happily took his Nobel prize on this basis. Which, in fairness, I would too. It's a fucking Nobel prize.

It was with this knowledge, and this knowledge alone, that I stated in my now very, very widely read comment that Golding 'wrote the book to be a dick', in response to the tags of the person I reblogged from. As I said, I now know that Golding did not write the book (solely) because he hated the kids he taught, but as a response to The Coral Island and the general idea that clearly the British were inherently civilsed, whilst the people they colonised and enslaved were inherently savage. So. That's the background.

The anon - or rather, the person I thought was anon - was the sole exception out of dozens of replies, who instead of telling me about The Coral Island politely decided it was time to go ALL CAPS and regurgitate points already made by thespaceshipoftheseus, and implied that the only reason that the real life Tongan castaways didn't go all Lord of the Flies was because they weren't British. Not because they weren't surrounded by violence like the boys in Lord of the Flies, or there wasn't a World War ongoing, or that they weren't the upper, upper, upper crust of a class-obsessed society like Britain - but because they weren't British. A complete inversion of the concept that Golding was trying to get across - now, instead of all of humanity being equally prone to savagery in the right conditions, it was solely nationality that determined it. As in, the British were inherently savage, but nobody else was.

I, trying for humour, made the terrible mistake of replying to them.

I won't lie, I was absolutely blown away that this was real life. What I think they were trying to do was be that Cool Tumblr Person who, after somebody's been shitty on a post, goes to their blog and sees something Damning in their about/description. In an ideal world, I imagine I'd have gone nuts or done something Unforgiveable. In what I can only call the rant that followed, they stated several times that I needed to go back to high school to get some 'proper literary analysis' skills and that the story of the Tongan castaways was completely unrelated to the point at hand which. A friend has since asked me why I even have 'england' in my description. First of all, she is sold to those olive skinned savages by a white man, who is a terrible, increadibly evil man. He want's to fuck the then 11-12 ish Dany so bad, she picks his slave most resembling her and rapes her repeatedly, "until the madness pass." He also maimes children and traines them as disposable slave spies by the hundreds. There is no boundaries colour here, GRRM prtrays all kinds of people as reprehensible, evil and disgusting. Honestly, if you actually read the books and they came of to you as porn, you might want to do some soulsearching.Btw, the HBO series was a terrible adaptation, it immedietly started to go further and further from the books with every passing season and the showmakers made it very clear to everybody, that they didn't understand the very much pacifist and humanist themes of Martin. And neither did you.

We also get no indication Essos will eat it when Winter comes; hell, they seem to not know Winter exists, given the way people act, even though that is also unrealistic and weird.  Essos was just super badly designed, and Dany is a terribly boring character.

(I had a bible written here about the political situation in spain because I felt chatty but OF COURSE my laptop had to freeze and I lost everything I had written lol)

Anyways, gonna give a kick summary of spanish politics

- Up until 2015, spanish only had two main political parties: PP (right wingers) and PSOE (started as socialists, now they’re centrists)

- Before the 2015 elections, two other big parties showed up: Ciudadanos/C’s (like I said on the other post, self identified liberals and centrists, actually fascism with a touch of progresism masked up as a cool thing for younger people) and Podemos (sociodemocrats)

- Ciudadanos is lead by Albert Rivera. They were nobodies in Catalonia until the independence thing, and they started to get popular because they defended the unity of Spain, opposed to independentism and anything that isn’t ESPAÑÑÑÑÑOL enough for them, and want to impose the spanish language and culture over all the other cultures and different languages and traditions we have all over the country (which btw there are A LOT bc Spain is super diverse, we have 4 official recognised languages and many more non-recognised ones).

- C’s is basically a fearmongering party, whose main voters are

- All in all, they’re just ultranationalists, closer to fascism than centrism and that have just started using feminism and LGTB as a way to look more “progressive” when literally every body single person knows that they hate women and sexual minorities just as much as any other right wing party

And this might not even make sense since you’re not from spain and familiar with its politics, but even before I decided to check his follow list, he always gave me this “frat boy” type of vibes. Like, for example, how much he uses the spanish flag EVERYWHERE. Using the spanish flag here has always been a taboo thing (except during international football matches lol). If you come to Spain, and see someone with a spanish flag bracelet, or has the spanish flag anywhere on their bodies/cars/wtv, run away from them because they’re fascists. And Carlos even makes his dog wear a spanish flag collar lol

I also just found this trying to find a pic of his dog, that’s someone asking him if he got that dog because he hunts, or only because he liked the breed, and he answered “both!” (big big big big big big yikes from me dawg)

he also has a huge spanish flag hanged on his room (like who the fuck does that lmaooo) and during the Catalunya GP (two? years ago) when the independence thing was wayy more relevant and things in spain were very rocky politically because of it (and many other things), he posed with the spanish flag, and when people gave him shit about it, he came out saying that “theres nothing wrong with being proud of your country and showing our flag”, months after hundreds of catalans were beaten up by the police, a group of gang rapists got freed from jail, while another group of Vasque people are still on jail after being accused of terrorism for a bar fight.
