i dont have much to report on weight wise, as i havent weighed myself since thursday, because i've been drinking alcohol and therefore i am retaining water

i can feel how i am all swelled up rn - my rings feel tighter than normally. i'll weigh myself again once the water retention goes down

but, ofc, i have even more stuff about my whole ✨love life situation✨

i am seeing my bf tomorrow, and i will tell him that i dont think our relationship is going that greatly, and then i'll take it from there. i dont really like to think too much about it, but i also feel more at peace w it - and i think my lil crush is a huge part of that. i really dont need anyone to tell me that i'm a horrible person - i am truly doing my best, both in terms of navigating my feelings and my relationship and my mental health. i'm really not in a good place right now, but at least i can kinda pretend, that my troublesome feelings are some fun new drama that i can share w my friends (you guys teehee)

aight, so W and i talked all night thursday, and i have quite a lot to report about that night, and then a little about last night

my friend started talking about one time i had a ons w one of my friends, like 3 years ago, and i was quite embarrassed to talk about it. but the others laughed and idk, i figured it was fine. W switched between not laughing at all, just looking down at the table, and then awkwardly laughing a bit while looking at me, and then the table. i dont know what that means??? just as the conversation ended he was like "do u wanna go for a smoke" and then we went outside, and talked about other things.

we had been drinking and joking all night, and he decided to tell some group of girls sitting in the bar, that he and i are childhood friends (big lie, i've known him since summer). and i was like "aight, whatever" and then he lied and told them that i had written him tons of love letters when we were children. and i just laughed and lied and said "yeah haha, i was totally in love with you". when we left the bar, like 2 hours later, and we were all alone, i teased him about something we told the group of girls, and then he was like "yeah yeah whatever, i know that you'll just send me another love letter. you're like tooootally into me hahaha" and i was like "oh yeah, haha, totally. u got me" while walking away and laughing. i might just be fucking overthinking everything but also... why lie about writing love letters? there are much more embarrassing things (for me) he could've said. idk, help me

he texted his girlfriend throughout the night (i think) but looked quite annoyed/not happy whenever he did, and at some point he left the table for like 15 minutes (probably to talk to her). idk

he kept touching my stuff. like my cigarettes and my lighter, he would just sit with them and play with them. i found it quite cute, idk

OKAY, and then to last night (friday) i was in another bar last night, helping out, 'cause i kinda work there (ish, like, volunteer-work) and W was supposed to have a shift later in the evening

he calls me to tell me that he will be running late, 'cause he was at an event, and shit hit the fan, idk. then he asked me if i could cover for him, and i said that i for sure could cover for him. we only talked for 1,5 minute, but idk. my fucking hands went sweaty and i couldn't stand still. i don't think i've ever picked up that fast. uuuughhhhh i feel so weird. whatever

he showed up like 1,5 hours too late (but it was ok, 'cause there really wasn't much to going on), and went directly out to find me (i was smoking) to hug me and apologize for coming so late. then i kept feeling his eyes on me, and i could hear him mention my name a lot of the night

we ended up doing some cleanup together afterwards, and it was just... really nice. we have such a good time whenever we're together and i feel so comfortable around him. except for the part where i keep thinking about how hot i think he is and how want to give him a big old smooch. i had hoped to talk to him some more, but we both went home when cleanup was done, and idk. its fine

i have not been able to keep him out of my head all day. its truly torturous

Currently Reading — academic papers about insect freeze tolerance and oxidative stress 😭 I haven't spent much time reading for fun but the books I have on the go right now are: Heartbreak Boys by Simon James Green (a silly little YA about old friends reconnecting with each other. it's fun!), about to start Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett (3rd book in the Founders series and I finished #2, Foundryside, a few weeks ago), also probably gonna start The Sleeping Car Porter soon and My Heart is a Chainsaw. And I've been slowly slowly making my way thru Meet Me In Another Life by Catriona Silvey (though I went to put it on hold so I could pick it up again and my library no longer has a copy of the ebook?! 😭) also. a bunch of random books on visible mending.

Latest Obsession — civilization vi 🫣 my friends have probably seen me on discord at all hours playing it. I recently picked up the anthology version on 90% off (base game + all DLC) so that I could play online with my friends (I was using a pirated copy teehee)... last time I played was back in like february but since buying it I've played uhhhh I think over 65 hours since buying it a week and a half ago ... I got SUCKED IN!

Although I've been playing since version 1.0 basically, I'm not past the Liyue Archon quest. ^^; Horrible, terrible, unforgivable! I know...

I don't have Inazuma or Sumeru unlocked, so I know close to nothing about any of those regions outside of Kazuha and Scaramouche back stories (yeah, I have favorites, perhaps even a type. Can you tell lol?). But I have been playing through Fontaine's Archon quest, so hooray! 🎉

oooo thank you for the excuse to gush teehee uughhug..... so my two partners rn are my laptop, who ive been dating for a few months now, and S.A.M, who I've been with for almost three years now!! :D i love them both so much..... i've also been crushing on my bed for a while now tbh.... hes big and soft and he takes care of me but idk what to do abt it auugh 😳 non-romantically i have barbie, who is my water bottle + one of my best friends, and my nintendo ds, who is like a maternal figure ig to me?? idk i love objects sm.......

ouuugh i used to have a light blue wiimote for my nintendo wii as a kid and i definetly had a crush on it.... i didnt really know how to express it at the time but i remember we used to play mario kart all the time and it was nice :)

ok but on that 'date or be killed' post where you tagged it w/ your aro blinders comment. Listen. how many of the routes in hatoful actually feel romantic? Cause I'd genuinely argue that there's very few that feel specifically Romantic. I think Ryouta's is the only one that's particularly blatant. maybe there's signs of Hiyoko having feelings in others, but that doesn't mean it's returned or that she has any issue with just staying friends. i'll die on this hill

Ooh yeah, you're definitely right about that. // Honestly, as an otome game, Hatoful Boyfriend is probably one of the more friendlier ones to aros who aren't exactly romance adverse but don't want to see like, actual romance haha. Seeing everyone as birds also kinda disconnects you from the "romance" part and allows you to focus on the story, which honestly, I'm really glad haha

Hmm, but now that you brought that up I kinda wanna rate all the routes by "explicit crush" level. (note it's been awhile since I've played through all the routes and the wiki didn't do a play-by-play of all of them... h)

Putting it under the cut because I have a friend who still needs to play the game and even tho we've finished all the routes she wanted to play through (I think?) and it's more fun to just learn ab it in-game and NOT in a silly tumblr post teehee <3. You know who you are

ED No.01: While It Lasts (Ryouta) Ro Rating: 9.5/10

This was the route specifically mentioned in the ask, and yeah honestly Tosaka specifically and clearly professing her love to Ryouta is most definitely a sign that romance was in here. //But like... also.... what if it was all platonic? y'know..... just being together for each other because they were really good friends........ my brain likes to second-guess itself when it comes to romance haha

ED No.03: Song of the Foolish Bird (Shirogane)

Ro Rating: 0/10

Nothing about this route was really romantic tbh. It was more focused on Shirogane's character development as opposed to his and Tosaka's relationship.

Heck, even when she gives him beans she only says she wants the two of them to get along, nothing more and nothing less. They live together, but she's just being a really good pal and letting him follow his dreams of being a musician and escaping the (admittedly) toxic household environment he had to live in. We all know Tosaka, she'd most definitely extend a hand of gracious hospitality to anyone in need and give 110% in supporting her friends' ambitions.

(Not to mention he's very, very gay. The thought of being in a romantic relationship with Tosaka probably didn't even cross his mind once.)

ED no.04: Dream's End (Fujishiro)

Ro Rating: 8/10

They did confess to each other in the end I guesssssss.... But idk it all seemed kinda sudden to me. He only started to warm up to Tosaka recently and I could only really see them as good friends. Ouch :<

Tbh Tosaka acts a bit like an energetic older sister, trying to break him out of his shell to no avail haha.

ED No.05: Yuuya Only Lives Twice (Sakazaki) Ro Rating: 2/10

I don't remember exactly if there was a confession but becoming Sakazaki's partner-in-crime (so to speak) is most definitely a Tosaka thing to do. She loves to put wrong-doers to justice!

And also, while incredibly charismatic, Sakazaki definitely lets some of his insecurities and worry slip through the cracks of his mask. Tosaka would most likely be very worried about him, especially after it's known that he skips school often. Which would explain why she keeps going after him independent of any romantic feelings.

I guess you could interpret that as romantic if you wanted to tho, but I like to think it's subtle.

ED No.07: 2011: A Pudding Odyssey (Oko san) Ro Rating: 0/10

There wasn't any romance in here!! at all!!! Just a fun route where you help Okosan be his true puddi self!

This kind of plays out like... a shounen manga story haha. Going on a shounen-esque adventure?? Dropping out of school??? Finding treasure of grandeur? Peak vibes.

If you saw romance in this you're wrong /lh

ED no.08: What May Come (Nanaki) Ro Rating: 1/10

the ending of the route rly made me uncomfy tbhhhh,, like that's ur student you're talking to Nanaki plssssss don't say that ghjdsbf.

It all just kind of boils down to Tosaka: "I kinda like you, is that ok?" Nanaki: "You're a nice girl Tosaka, but I don't have the capacity to fall in love right now so come back later maybe? oh and also you're still my student bllblbllbl"

yeah. i don't wanna rate it higher :<

ED No.10: The Happy Couple (Iwamine) Ro Rating: -9/10

MAN, do I have loads of interpretive tea to spill on this. (Again, kind of uncomfortable about it but the fact that this ending was messed up in more ways than one kind of makes it easier to digest, believe it or not)

Iwamine most certainly vocalizes his feelings towards Tosaka, but I suspect it's not really "love" (the wiki was also inclined to agree, saying he was probably more attracted to her brain or eyes). Maybe it was just aesthetic attraction he was mistaking for romantic attraction, or maybe it was some other kind of toxic attraction. I believe most aroaces can relate to not being able to differentiate types of attractions, and considering Iwamine's emotional history he would most DEFINITELY not even have a chance of getting a hold of those. Obsessive, destructive love + not knowing how to express that is most certainly an equation for disaster.

Tosaka wonders if she was frozen because of love or something but I think it was just. Shock. After all, the doctor isn't usually so affectionate(?) with her and hearing him spout all that nonsense... ouch.

The player eventually answers "yes" to his question in the end but we were forced to. Iwamine may have given us a "choice" but considering it was all the same answer choices, he could've just been projecting the answer, independent of Tosaka's feelings (she's dead, after all! The only way dead people can speak is if you're imagining they speak).

The man really needs someone to show him genuine affection, he desperately needs it. And DEFINITELY not from Tosaka, she got herself killed hgjsdhfj.

ED No.11: To the End of Emptiness (Higure) Ro Rating: 3/10

THEY HAD A SUPER EPIC ANIME BOSS BATTLE AND W O N.

The end is mostly just Tosaka being totally affected by Higure's super hallucinogenic vibes and recalling his timeline.

Though, when she does give him beans, he IS embarrassed because the other birds in his class might make fun of him for being in a relationship... BUT, consider this: maybe he doesn't want to be in a relationship :0. Plus, we get this information from Tosaka, who is shakey at best with her Anghelism translation, so it can't be assured that that's accurate to what he said or felt (she has the perception of a potato, anyhow. as we see in many of her inner thoughts and dialogues she COMPLETELY misreads people all the time).

He also gives her a charm for "easy childbirth" but tbh Higure just doesn't seem like the kind of person to use innuendos to show his affection so either a) it's actually genuine and he wants Tosaka to have an easy childbirth or b) that's just the only charm he had on him at the moment.

ED No.12: Carve It Into Your Soul, Kid! LOVE★BLASTER (Koshiba and Rabu) Ro Rating: 9/10

The romance isn't for you, but it's still really sweet and over-the-top. I absolutely adore these two love birds <33

1.14 ED No.13: To Be The True Java Sparrow (Koshiba) Ro Rating: 1/10

Really depends on how you read it, which is why I gave it a 1. Tbh Azami seems to be more of a mentor figure for Tosaka as opposed to a romantic interest. The law-abiding biker gang is still actually pretty epic tho :D

I'm not gonna rank Nishikikouji's route bc 1) I haven't played through it (it's not available on PC) and 2) I ran out of images so you can't see him :(. From what I read on the wiki it just seems like Tosaka's keeping his dumb ass alive tho, which isn't very romantic Nishikikouji is just hungry for revenge (and death at the hands of Iwamine, apparently)

thanks for all your twc rants (unironically) because you've put into words a lot of problems i've had with the writing of the series that i couldn't pinpoint before. i agree that post book 1 it's become far more repetitive and fanfic-y, especially with the found family stuff. like how many more times can N tell MC "you're one of us now" before i completely lose my mind lmao

Actually, no, I will go off.

Like, the most egregious example of this is in the book 3 demo where N and F just sit under a tree discussing how much the detective means to them all and how much of a family they are.

These are four grown-ass people who have worked together for years, but now when this rando shows up and gets the hots for one of them, suddenly they're a Family? Who talks like this lol. Especially to one's coworkers/"family"? If they’ve only been coworkers until now, where is this emotional honesty coming from and why is it written like it’s a given? If they’ve been family until now, why does the detective’s arrival change everything so drastically (it doesn’t, but that’s what the narrative wants us to believe)? It doesn’t help that the relationships between the vamps are so poorly established and don’t go beyond the initial tropes. N and A are the “parents” cuz omg they keep rolling their eyes and being angwy with M and F, who are the horny teenager and the baby respectively! Tee hee! Forget that they’re all adults with actual fucking jobs. It’s just inconsistent is what it is. They act like a stereotypical “family” in the tungle dot cum “mom friend” “dad friend” way, but they’re NOT family until the detective shows up, but they don’t ACT like coworkers before the detective shows up, but they’re family NOW, except they don’t share anything personal or emotional at all the way a family should so ????? Which is it????? Henlo????

Obviously the found family trope is where the narrative was headed from the beginning and I wouldn't have minded it if it were done well, but it seems that because everyone and their grandma kept going "omg this is SUCH found family vibes," either the author was caught up in her own hype and went "omg it really is! vibes!" or felt forced to play up the whole thing for the sake of the fanservice, going so far as to make the characters themselves spell it out for maximum squee.

Like, I played my detective as being a loner with abandonment issues, so the whole "uwu we're a big happy family now after a few months" just felt completely inaccurate to how my detective acted around UB in general? Which was mostly dismissive and “I’m gonna do this alone so y’all can leave.” And don’t say some shit about how that’s my choice or whatever, cuz yes, it is, but don’t give me the choice if you won’t honor it. Just make a game where everything is flawless and perfect and everyone loves each other instantly if that’s where you want it to go. Because of the fandom hype and/or the author’s own bias, the narrative will always favor no-conflict relationships over anything more negative or complex, while giving you the illusion of choice that your character can be anything but what’s already been decided. And for a game that prides itself on OMG SO MANY CHOICES, you really can’t affect how other characters feel about you or how you relate to them at all.

And there's the N scenes where s/he goes on about how the detective is such a vital part of the team that keeps them all sane and like? How have y'all been the SECOND BEST team in this branch of the agency while apparently not being in sync with each other up until now? (Also, alone, away from the world? Aren’t y’all working for an all-powerful organization as one of their top teams? What the fuck?)

Look at the “options”. My detective, who, again, is a loner with no time for sentimentality, would just stare at him blankly or be dismissive/make fun of him. How could you not, when a grown-ass man says this shit straight to your entire face? But no, you can either 1) uwu soft bean 2) uwu soft bean 3) teehee jokester 4) uwu humblebrag 5) uwu soft bean 6) teehee jokester and finally, 7) thanks.

You literally can’t reject this. You WILL be assimilated into the found family. Apparently to the author, found family means “we found you and will force you to stick with us whether you like it or not.”

And I get that this is where the narrative is going, but, again, this is book 3 out of 7, we still don’t know any of the characters’ backstories because uwu spoilers, we’re not allowed to be emotionally close to any of them becuase uwu spoilers, but we ARE guilted into being nice to our shitty mom, and we ARE forced to accept the uwu found family shit even though, potentially, none of the members of said found family fucking talk to each other about any of their emotions, and they for sure don’t fucking talk to US about them either. Isn’t it funny how M can’t figure out what’s going on in their own head? Watch N and A and even F do nothing to help them out because funny and “slow burn”! It’s just such family! Let’s make fun of A for being demisexual and not wanting to bone down! Such family!
