john is not a sociopath / he is autistic essay abridged:

he is lacking in empathy, but this is an overlapping trait with autism and ASPD

his special interest is serial killers. he takes every chance he has to incorporate it into his schoolwork. like that one was neon lights autism imo lol

despite lacking empathy, he has a strong moral compass and cares about doing the "right" thing (which is a trait commonly associated w autism). he recognizes that he feels differently than what is normal but he still wants to be good, makes an effort. his desire not to "become a monster" is what stands out the most to me because why would he care to be good, if he had no empathy at all?

he adheres to a routine / rules he created (both his "be normal" rules and his meticulous plan for mapping out the crowleys' house, etc.) altogether is a very planned out and meticulous person, contradicting the point in ASPD diagnostic criteria about impulsivitiy and recklessness

hyperfixates on people (not to hurt them, but to see what they do, figure them out) and has a hard time Not doing that because to engage is to break one of his rules (stalking). comes in handy when said person is a god he has to kill lol

anyway i have not touched this series in ages so im not adding more or citing shit but u know what i mean. autism 🤝
