Hey! I was curious if you heard of the manga Ibitsu. It's one of my favorites. If you have read it, what's your thoughts on it?
Ibitsu is also one of my favorites and is in the list of my most recommended manga! This manga holds a special place for me because it was one of the first series, alongside Junji Ito's works and Fuan No Tane, that really got me hooked on horror in manga. When I first read it, I was genuinely scared - probably because I made the mistake of reading it at night and kept imagining myself in the same horrifying situation as the main character.
I'm a huge fan of the art style. The way the creepy Lolita character is drawn, especially with her lifeless eyes, unsettling facial expressions, and creepy/grotesque 'movements' (seriously, can you imagine this animated?) really brings the horror to life. And the way you can almost smell her, with all those fluids seeping out of her body and her nasty stuffed toy - it’s such an effective use of horror imagery.
I’ve always had a thing for creepy stalker women in fiction. Zashiki Onna comes to mind as being similar, and there’s also a newer series called Mushibami Hime that fits that vibe too!
I got lucky the other month and found a copy of Ibitsu lying around in Indigo, and re-reading it now brings back so many nostalgic feelings!

Why tf do mangakas gotta sprinkle pedophilia and incest in their works??? Can we just, like, have a regular story?? Does this teenage girls panty shot progress the story or…??

Oh yeah, forgot to show off my little haul from Monday.
So long story short, I got a few gift cards from the Writers Guild as a thank you for all the work I put into creating and launching our very first, national short story contest.
Both gift cards were for McNally and, since I wanted to get out of the house, I ran over there and bought myself these beauties!
Except for Issue 4 of I Am Iron Man, that I bought at my local comic book store.
Sadly, no Epic Collection trade for She-Hulk, but there is a copy at said local comic store, so I'll pick that up later this summer.

Haruto Ryo: Ibitsu
2009
10/ it's been a long time since I felt the type of fear Ibitsu brought out of me. It made me remember being a kid, laying in my bed afraid to look into the dark corners of my room, feeling a presence under my bed and in the closet, a feeling of being watched and hunted. It's this atmosphere of childhood dread that Haruto Ryo captures on paper, bringing an entity of urban legend out from the dark corners, into the life of the characters. It's a very nice touch when they show how the characters research and tell each other about the legend, it made me nostalgic towards my years in school when we did the same thing, and I felt like Haruto Ryo also had this experience. Also, the way he draws the entity makes it really distinguished from anything else in the manga, creating the feeling that it doesn't belong in that world, further bringing out it's uncanny and unnatural way of being. Apart from the art, the story also kept me interested and presented a twist at the end that expanded the story and elevated the entity above an ordinary urban legend, and hinted towards it being and evil presence more ancient than the reader anticipates while reading the previous chapters. This is a shorter read, but it stayed with me for a good while and I don't think I'll ever forget the eerie pages of this manga.
colors: white streetlight in a dark alleyway, dried blood on a ceiling, blue veins under thin skin, the purple of intestines

#Transjitter: Ibitsu na Karada#manga#overall feelings are that character drama was surprisingly sparse despite the nature of the premise it's also wild that the#development that was present was plotted around creating the most confusing love pentagon of all time#i want to say this could have been something had it not been discontinued but...the protagonist had next to no agency for this whole run.#its hard to determine exactly where they were going with him#there are aspects to the writing that i do find enjoyable..but a lot of it was pretty underwhelming

I'm at the library & I just got finished reading a particularly explicit horror manga. I was trying to find the spot on the shelf to put it back & this 11 yr old offers to take it from me. I warned him that it may not be for his age demographic & this youngster says to me, "I've read Tokyo Ghoul, I think I can handle it 😏"
