Although he had been around since 1960, Captain Atom didn't get his own book until 1965 when Strange Suspense Stories #78 was re-titled Captain Atom #78. This was when Cap ditched his original gold and red costume (which I prefer) for the liquid metal one pictured above.

The solo book didn't last long. It was cancelled after issue #89 (December, 1967), a victim - as so many books were back then - of the implosion that followed the sudden superhero comic book explosion brought on by the mega-popular Batman television series.

The part that really fucking sucks is when your animals drink the water down to where all of it freezes, and you have to carry three five gallon buckets of hot water from the house out to them, and then the goddamn horses drink 10 gallons of it in one fucking sitting
