i’ve spent ages thinking how to write this without sounding like a whiny miserable brat looking for attention or sympathy or even a “but omg you’re so talented” (lol idc if that’s narcissistic hear me out here) but hey, this is my blog, if i want to make it my personal diary of shit i can’t talk to my rl friends about who don’t know about jcink i will. but im not that mean to make everyone read it if you don’t want to, so the rest is below the cut

i keep telling myself to come back off my so called hiatus, and i’ve made a few codes that i’ve posted somewhere even, and i lurk around on the resource sites but i just can’t bring myself to properly come back. i can’t even make myself go on discord (so sorry to anyone i sorta just....ghosted...). i don’t even remember the last time i enjoyed writing rp related content ffs. i can get semi hype but as soon as it gets to actually mucking in my enthusiasm just disappears. my creative streak feels as though its waned; the idea of writing new characters feels like a stretch my brain can’t make anymore, and replaying my existing characters feels boring at this stage.

as for my coding, i just....feel like i’m plugging away for no reason. there’s no point of the codes i make outside of a very limited niche, and even within jcink most sites have in house codes so they’re not even looking externally so much these days. i start making a template and 90% of the time just close the tab because i think well what’s the point of doing this?

it’s like, why am i doing this when i don’t actually think i want to be? why am i not learning how to make my coding more applicable to the real world, and im instead coding for a community i’d rather not even tell my rl friends about? why do i want to post codes for a community where highkey i actually hate most “jcink aesthetics”? (im going to say it lol. rl sites look gaudy as shit and are semi unusable most of the time, supernatural/hp site gothic type sites usually look like depression if it were html/css). hey don’t worry though if i personally offended your entire portfolio though -- i looked through all of my own work today and realised i actually hate 80%+ of it over the years.

letting go of this hobby feels incredibly hard though; i think if i leave, will it even be here if i come back in say one year, two years, three years? if i ever want to return, will i just be disappointed by what i return to? rp followed me through my formative adult years, from finishing school, to university, to a bout of glandular fever that messed up my immune system for nearly 2 years, to moving across the country multiple times, to a horrifying and protracted near long breakdown which im still surprised to this day i came out of alive.

i don’t have that turbulence in life though anymore, despite the horrors of the world we live in right now -- 2020 was for some bizarre reasons one of my better ones. i have a job i enjoy and a partner whom i adore, im away from the people and things that fuel much of my misery and in turn my toxic side, i’m opening a fucking small business on the side soon and going back to school in the fall. i think i used jcink as a community for so long when i didn’t really have one rl for myself, that now i’ve got people in my life that i care about and who care about me, i don’t need the escapism that roleplaying and coding allowed me. 

my last major depression session was last summer (it was 2020 after all, it wasn’t perfect) and i found myself going through years of stuff that i’d collected, going peak marie kondo and asking myself do i really need this, does this pen or tenth notepad or pair of shoes i hadn’t worn for 2 years really spark any joy? now i ask myself, does this spark joy? even in times where i was deeply deeply unhappy on here for whatever reason i could still at least say yeah, it does spark joy to me. but now it doesn’t, and in 2021 we shouldn’t be hanging on to things that feel like a chore, an obligation, that don’t make us happy anymore. 

i’m not saying “lol im quitting forever” because in 6 months i might change my mind, but as we get into the spring and summer i want to feel the sun on my face without the niggling thought that you haven’t made a code in a while, or you need to get those posts done. and yes, i know i could have just disappeared silently but i just wanted to get my own thoughts out somewhere, and having it tucked away in a google doc forever more felt...more depressing somehow.

anyway, while this may not be goodbye forever, it’s certainly goodbye for now jcink. stay safe and carry on making this community the one of a kind place it is in the world, even if it’s not for me just now.

yo yo yiggity yo ... it’s me ( jaybae ) .... with muse #3 ! a version of moira has been chillin’ on my indie for months and i hardly use her so i thought i’d bring her home and let the fam have at her 🥰

backstory:

moira came into the world as a happy accident .. mommy was a stripper, daddy was in a band on a small tour. moira’s mom fell in love as soon as he sat at the stage and he was enamored by her. he offered to drive her home after her shift and the pair dated for a few months before moira’s mom was pregnant. neither one were prepared for the life of parenthood ( very wrong time, wrong place ) but they made it work for a while. then moira’s dad scored a record deal and a small tour turned into an arena tour within a few years....the distance and lack of time put pressure on their relationship and they ended it. moira’s dad would still pop up from time to time to see her when he wasn’t too busy. 

moira was pretty much raised at her grandparent’s house. her dad became more and more distant ( off doing rockstar things ) and moira’s mom returned to a life of stripping once her maternity leave was over. her grandparents put her on the bus, helped her with her homework and spoiled her as much as they could. the relationship with her mom was a bit strained but moira knew her mom was working for them - she never felt ashamed of her mom’s profession, even when she got older and understood what it was. her dad sent her money every few months and she knew better than to blow it on stupid shit. 

the only big purchase she bought with the money was an acoustic guitar. music was really her only hobby and in some way, she felt that the more she learned, the closer she got to her dad. everyone who loves music wants to strike it rich - but she just wanted to be like her dad who she didn’t really know. make him proud. even if he was only around in fragments of her life.

school was never her thing.....EVER. that being said, her grandparents were the type to force her to do her best. Cs weren’t acceptable in their household and she struggled - but the idea of giving her mom and her grandparents a better life ( and possibly reconnecting with her distant father ) helped her keep going. she decided to go to college .. long story short, she dropped out a few weeks into her junior year. she went to a school near harvard and met taline at a sorority party.....the way she felt about taline was exactly how her mom described meeting her dad - it was INSTANT. fast. passionate. moira was skipping class to go see her and surprising her with cute dates.

had been doing the ~music thing~ since she was about 14 but kicked it into overdrive at the age of 18. dropping out of school only gave her more time for music.....i’m not too good at voice claims but i’d say her music is very like alina baraz/kali uchis/a smidge of H.E.R ! she’s been trying to gain exposure for a year or two and although she realizes she could just namedrop her dad and have it handed to her, she wants to EARN it.

PERSONALITY:

free-spirited : independent and non-conventional .... doesn’t really need anyone for anything and definitely is a bit “ out there ” ! doesn’t always approach things normally and probably sees things differently than everyone else sometimes ...... an aquarius through and through

idealistic : i definitely think she’s the “rose colored glasses” label ?? has big dreams and thinks everyone should dream big .. she has moments of getting discouraged but never gets too down

ditzy : i already said she’s not the brightest and she’s definitely a bit of an airhead ... things just have a tendency to go over her head from time to time

temperamental : mimi has a mean streak for sure .. it’s not so much malicious as it is like ?? running her mouth ?? if you come off wrong or she misinterprets you, it’ll probably result in an argument. ( see : the New York “ break a leg “ gifset i reblogged because that’s very Moira )

Thank you soooo much anon 💕💕💕 I'm super glad you asked for favourite asoiaf characters and not pre-asoiaf because then we'd be here ALL YEAR and next year too. I'm also glad you said asoiaf and not GoT because the latter can officially do one. Semantics and specifics matter a great deal after all😉

I'm just going to be brief because I don't want to ramble on too long, but I fear this will end up being a long post anyway so I'll leave it under the cut. 

1. Daenerys Stormborn Targaryen: I love everything about her, from the top of her perpetually singed head to her 'dainty sandaled feet'. She embodies all that is great about House Targaryen. I've loved Dany from the very beginning, she was the abused underdog, the expendable chattel, the broodmare- but she ended up as the mother of dragons and the magnificent queen we now know her as 😍 She's been to hell and back, she's clawed her way back up to the top of the organic pile that is life and she has flourished. She's endured betrayal and hardship but she's learnt so much from it at her young age :') Dany is wise but conflicted, young and naive, merciful but ruthless when she needs to be and the destiny and magic that seems to surround her just add to her charisma and intrigue. She's the last scion of her house, the last dragon, and she's determined to leave her mark but with none of the arrogant entitlement that was the downfall of many members of her house. Her relationship with her advisers is something that humanises her a great deal and she had me hooked when she wanted to be a good ruler who would protect her people.

"Why do the gods make kings and queens, if not to protect the ones who can't protect themselves?"

I'm rooting for her so bad. Dany carries the eclectic history of her house with her, the blood of the dragon runs strongly through her veins and magnifies her excellence a million times over. She is a sister, a daughter, a mother to legends! At the heart of it, she wants to make the world a better place, to end oppression and slavery and injustice because she too has endured it.

“Slavery is not the same as rain. I have been rained on and I have been sold. It is not the same. No man wants to be owned.”

But despite all that, she's still a young girl with a young girl's heart and she makes mistakes and lapses of judgement BUT WHO IS PERFECT I ASK YOU? Even the most benign and just rulers in history had their flaws, they made mistakes, but it's what they achieve overall that matters. GRRM has created the perfect fantasy ruler in Daenerys Targaryen: she's complex, realistic, interesting and very human. She's got a good heart, a sharp mind, she's not infallible and has never asked to be held to impossible standards. I am in awe of her, I am enraptured, I am obsessed, SHE'S MA KWEEN OK❤😭

2. Jon Snow: I used to struggle to choose between Jon and Dany, but obviously Dany won as my numero uno in the end. I love this sassy, sullen boy so much, good lord he's everything ❤ Jon and Dany's parallels are uncanny. They're both such young people trying to do what they think is right (& it often is idc). I remember myself at 16 and I kid you not I was an actual troglodyte in comparison to those two. Anyway Jon is inherently a good person, but he's ruthless and flawed too and that's what I love about him. He's no self righteous niminy piminy chit. He's the bastard™ of Winterfell and if some meanie isn't already reminding us of that fact, then Jon does it himself haha. But I love how assertive he is too and doesn't take BS from anyone!

"I think not Greyjoy, this one belongs to me," was so iconic! I knew that boy was destined for greatness when he found himself a direwolf pup unlike any other! His love for his family is also very touching, despite being the familial outcast, he adores Robb and Arya and the others too (he’s never shown any animosity towards Sansa either) and he idolises his ‘father’ Ned too, and emulates his sense of honour and justice. He's so world weary and just done with everyone's shit 24/7 but he's a sweetheart too and honestly, I'd happily die fighting by his side. Like Dany, I admire his rise from a mere steward to the Lord Commander, I love that he makes questionable choices for the greater good (ahem like his father) and I love that he was born with a great destiny (unbeknownst to him) & he faces pitfalls at every turn but does he give up? No he does not.

P.S "Edd, fetch me a block" will be carved upon my tombstone. ICONIC.

3. Arya Stark: my little wolf child. I would have rolled over and died if I'd been through what she has, but her brains, her intuition and her heart has kept her thriving. I love how badass she is. As someone born with two left feet, I admire her agility and resilience so much. Arya is a survivor and a hardy little pup, she’s amicable, empathetic towards the less advantaged, she is touched with the milk of human kindness despite all that she endures BUT she has a darker side too (can you blame her?). Arya gazes into the abyss and the abyss gazes back. I personally love it, I love the vengeance that drives her, fuck magnanimity and forgiveness, if someone fucks with your family or friends, stick 'em with the pointy end.

4. Jaime Lannister: I love this golden fuckboy so much. I remember reluctantly hating him in AGoT but I still admired his flair and cockiness, he was such an arse! Long story short, when I got to see the real Jaime Lannister in the later books, the deep conflict that roiled within him, the noble knight that had been suppressed so long due to bad company and an even worse reputation. But what I love is that alongside all his gilded splendour, Jaime is a highly skilled fighter, a focused and loyal and emphatic man. He's not a charlatan or an inept fool. He fully deserves the acclaim. And let's not forget, Jaime's redemption arc was eye-wateringly epic. I loved his sense of humour, his good heart (once you chipped away at it for a while), the perpetual discord within him and his renewed moral code that emerged like a phoenix from the ashes. A massive thanks to Brienne of Tarth for helping to expose the Jaime we love and adore.

5. Tyrion Lannister: his cut-glass wit, intelligence and world weariness resonate with me on a deep level. GRRM literally created the most liveliest, intriguing character out of this scarred, little morsel of flesh. Tyrion is physically disadvantaged but his mind is sharper than ten men his age. He reads religiously, because a mind needs a book like a sword needs a whetstone, and anyone who can apply the wisdom of the past to better the present is worthy of admiration in my eyes. I loved his whole storyline as Hand of the King, we got to see him actually work for the good of the people of KL (for all the thanks he got lmao) and I love how competent and clever he is. Obviously he has a nasty, self motivated streak too but it doesn't turn me away, I love following his mind around the twists and turns of his murky conscience. Ultimately, Tyrion is a survivor and a hustler and he always manages to squeeze out of tight spots, not down to any legendary pugilistic skills but his quick wits.

I could say so much more about these characters but I shan't keep you any longer.

you realize dazai abused akutagawa when he was 16 right? thats child abuse youre like twenty three HOW do you not know this PLEASE use your brain and stop stanning him

listen im not gonna pretend that the way he treats akutagawa in the mafia isnt hard to watch. i get where you’re coming from but you’re jumping from “i am posting about dazai a lot” to “i accept and condone every single thing that he did” i think AT BEST i can say it’s complicated but at no point do i think the narrative or framing excuses that and neither does dazai.

ultimately the way i feel about everything dazai does in the mafia is mostly just tragic as fuck. yes he perpetuates the cycle of trauma for a while, but he was a child too and frankly i think the person to hold accountable here is mori, whom i would kill with my bare hands honestly.

some additional context i think is relevant here:

dazai is also traumatized as fuck. at least as badly as akutagawa i would imagine. everyone in the mafia is traumatized as fuck actually.

they were BOTH children at that time. dazai leaves the mafia when he’s about 18 and he and akutagawa are about 2 years apart in age so i feel like its a little disingenuous to not talk about how that changes their interactions

everything dazai does in the mafia is pretty fucked up because his mentor is mori, known pedo freak who really truly should burn for the shit he’s done imo. also, once he is away from the mafia for a while he softens immensely, so i dont think it’s fair to say he is the kind of person who tends towards abusive behavior. i think its a bad habit he’s unlearning (and that is still the reason i flop back and forth on hating and loving him so hard).

akutagawa has a sadistic streak that i think runs way deeper than whatever dazai has, and it was supposedly there long before dazai starting mentoring him. that’s not to say that he deserved to be treated the way he was, but it’s hard to get very up in arms about it when he’s been just as complicit in perpetuating that violence as an ACTUAL adult (see: kyouka) and shows no sign of stopping.

i am not trying to sit here and defend cruel and violent behavior between teens. like i said before, the way he treats akutagawa is my least favorite part of his characterization. but in the context of all the other violence and cruelty going on in the mafia i think it’s weird to single out dazai as abusive and irredeemable.

idk bro i know bsd is a show with a lot of Problematic characters but at the end of the day. its a slightly above mediocre anime about if classic japanese writers were pretty boys with cool powers and i dont think its worth the time or emotional effort to be that mad about it. if you cant jive with that then like just block me idc
