Would kill to read animal POV fiction that has the animal POV’s interaction with humans be like, semi realistic to the level of caution most predators take with large prey and/or competitors (including humans).

Perceptions and thoughts about ch. 26 (a little late...)

Well, it's February 15th and that means chapter 27 has already been published! And while there are already spoilers out, I've been trying to avoid them since I don't want to know what happened (yet), I'm still finishing organizing my thoughts on ch 26 because it's always good to give it a deeper reading, right?

First, they are such a married couple! in the everyday they find their harmonious life as newlyweds, and that is seen in how the first thing Hirano thinks is that they are starting their last year of living together. Why would he worry about that if he didn't care about it beyond a good friendship?

“Irreplaceable days, with my sleepy kouhai besides me”

Sensei loves to draw Hirano's waist, every time she can she subtly emphasizes it, as in the cover of this chapter, where she not only lets us see the difference in size and build between them, but also Hirano's slender waist.

And in this chapter she really let herself go for the pleasure of drawing handsome guys, we finally get to see Kagi's good physical condition! We've all been able to see him except Hirano... and god knows he's eager to see those abs (in a totally platonic way of course).

While this seems to be a somewhat slow chapter or superfluously focused on the everyday, there are a couple of things that stand out for me and give enormous value to this chapter, and is that here we are given good clues to understand that Hirano's feelings have been changing, that even imagining suspending those morning studies makes him miss those moments together and make him call Kagi in an almost unconscious way.

Or when Kagi mentions that his favorite time of the day is studying with him in the mornings, the first thing that happens is that Hirano looks at him with a mixture of shock and wonder, then touches his heart (yes, I like to think that) because until a couple of minutes ago he was longing for those moments he thought he would lose.

Afterwards, he fails to concentrate and keeps glancing at Kagi who is so focused on his homework that he doesn't notice Hirano looking at him with those attentive and curious eyes, accompanied by that thought about how much it amazes him how Kagi gives his best in everything he does, feeling all that admiration for his roommate; and the last panel, where the word suki/like stands out (as mentioned in this community post that points very well what this last panel implies) and the beating of Hirano's heart, thinking about what's going on with him at that moment…

And let's remember, Hirano stated that his ideal partner is the one who gives his all, who is honest and open (and that basically is Kagi-kun), so let's hope that he can make those little advances to, with a little luck, have a kiss at the end of this year.

The end of chapter 26 gives me hope because now he sees Kagi and not only thinks about how he likes the distance they have, or that he feels calm being with him, but he thinks about how much he likes studying with him, and how much he admires him for his effort and dedication. And maybe tomorrow he can understand that he likes to have dinner with him, and practice basketball with him, and spend time with him in general. And as he comes to understand what a lovers' relationship means to him, he can slowly put together that puzzle where his own conception of romance converges with what he enjoys being with Kagi. And that all those ideas such as I like to study with him, I like to spend time with him, I like to take care of him, become simply I like him.

About the next chapters... I think Hirano will continue to be so calm next to Kagi, seeing him more and more attractive, decisive and admiring him through those huge blue cat eyes, but I still don't think he is in a position to fit all the pieces together. Also I think something else needs to happen for him to realize that he is indeed reciprocating Kagi's feelings, as the touching doesn't work, the closeness doesn't work (he recognizes it as brotherly love or deep friendship), so I think it takes another, a different twist for him to notice. I've considered the jealousy theme, but I don't think Hirano is an inherently jealous person, so it seems to me that it must be something that directly “threatens” Kagi for him to react. maybe a minor accident on the court? (he is an athlete, there are usually falls and bumps in practices and games) and we already saw that just because he knew he was in the infirmary he ran to see him regardless of rules or classes,

So it seems to me that if something like that happened, he would not hesitate to go to see him and maybe that way he could go fit his feelings and finally react (I am a believer that Hirano will be the one who kisses him first, probably in a burst of impulsivity). That, or one day he'll see Kagi shirtless and his heterosexuality and decency will fly out the window (there's a reason sensei still won't let him see his roommate's six pack).

And one last comment: I'm really worried about Hanzawa and how he will react when he confirms his suspicions because he definitely knows that Kagi likes Hirano, but he still doesn't see a real “danger” since Hirano seems to be so far from understanding what a crush is, but he definitely can feel how fond and close his friend is to Kagiura, and that it's just a matter of time before he falls... what will Hanzawa do when he confirms his suspicions?

Look I know Lucifer isn't the best dad ever but I feel like people who say he's a bad dad are purposely ignoring the context of the show. It is very much implied that he thought Charlie wanted nothing to do with him, and Charlie thought he wanted nothing to do with her. Lucifer’s still dealing with trauma from Heaven and his fall and probably will for the rest of time plus he's dealing with what would probably qualify as clinical depression, and simultaneously dealing with trauma, clinical depression, and autistic traits (which Lucifer absolutely has; I do not say, as an autistic person, that Lucifer is a massive autistic mood for no reason) is a fucking NIGHTMARE.

I'm not saying Lucifer shouldn't take responsibility. He should. But he's already doing better than my dad frankly. Lucifer hits me in the daddy issues, I wish my dad made an effort to be more active in my life. Lucifer is fucking trying, and that's better than a lot of people can say about their dads.

“Nine would have treated Martha better than Ten did”

I need to talk about this argument that never seems to stop circulating.

Note: Not a venomous/anti post. There’s more than enough of that across fandom spaces as is, and this is supposed to be a place for ✨sweet, blissful escapism✨

When making this argument, people seem to envision a scenario in which Nine never met Rose.

While I can appreciate a good hypothetical, recognizing Rose's significance to the Doctor (Nine and Ten) is essential to understanding why things with Martha played out the way they did in the first place.

In the third series, the Doctor is grieving. This grief is deliberately threaded into nearly every script, whether spoken aloud or not (and these are just a few examples):

He's burning in Rose’s wake the entire time Martha travels with him, which is why it’s so frequently called upon: It’s 100% deliberate in framing his grief. He grieved as Nine too, of course— having been fresh on the heels of the Time War — but then he met Rose, which changed everything.

Back then, he was still a rude, traumatized pain in the ass, but we watch Rose soften more of those jagged edges with every episode as they grow closer; as he lets his guard down and forms a deep connection with her.

He falls in love (against his better judgment) and it's game over.

And yes: provided S1E1 had been titled 'Martha', one can realistically assume things might have unfolded similarly to how they did with Rose. However, it wouldn’t have been that way just because the Doctor was Nine and “Nine was different” — it would be because he wasn’t already in love with someone else. The same can't be said for the start of S3.

Think of it like this: if Rose AND Martha had been in that cellar — if Nine had taken both of them along with him in S1 — we’d eventually be looking at the most melodramatic love triangle ever, what with him living in close quarters with two brilliant, gorgeous, compassionate young women... But Doctor Who is plenty “soap opera” as is with just one woman in the TARDIS.

(I certainly wouldn’t object to reading that fic, though)

Now, regarding the unrequited elephant in the room…

His inability to be romantic with Martha isn’t because he thinks her lesser, nor is it for lack of compatibility. It isn't because Rose is any better than her. It certainly isn’t just because he’s Ten.

It’s really only for one reason, which can't be denied — and now I’m a broken record:

He is still in love with Rose.

Nine is Ten, and Ten is only such a mess in S3 because he’s just lost the love of his life. Martha merely got caught in the crosshairs of a volatile Time Lord in mourning, and yes — it sucks. Absolutely.

But it also feels dismissive to chalk Ten and Martha’s relationship up to little more than some sort of mindless dance of pining, jealousy, and toxicity.

Ten trusted Martha with his life over and over again — and hers, with him. He constantly praised her brilliance, happily carting her around time and space with no intention of letting her go. In the BBC’s extended universe of novels/comics/cartoons/etc, there’s so much depth to their relationship: love and trust and trauma and sacrifice. They had their own special bond as mates, their own complexities — so it’s a bummer that it's forever overshadowed by the other things.

I’m not denying that there was a lot of stuff that sucked/was for sure toxic about Ten's S3 behavior, but so many of the things I've seen him catching flak for can be directly attributed to being A Clueless Fucking Alien Idiot (not a trait that’s unique to Ten) — as well as his flat-out obliviousness to Martha’s feelings.

So yes, I agree: if Rose never existed, he would have treated Martha differently as Nine. He also would have treated her differently as Ten. Certainly.

But Rose did exist, and when discussing canon, it matters.

Martha got the short end of the stick in S3. She came round at the wrong place and time, but that doesn't mean it was all bad. It doesn't mean the Doctor didn’t adore her. It certainly doesn't mean the time they spent together was wasted or worthless. They were brilliant!

Sure, he could be a twat, but let it be known that he was a twat with Rose as well, both as Nine and Ten. I’m sure Tentoo can be plenty infuriating, too. So while I'll defend Ten (and Tentoo) into the ground forever and ever and ever, I'll concede that he's fucked up.

The Doctor is a certified Pain In The Ass. It’s one of the things I love so much about this character — dynamics.

But never forget that Martha was goddamn tough as nails and overcame every bit of it. She moved on with her life, and the Doctor moved on with his. One can only pray that, when they inevitably drag her back onto the show (which feels inevitable if I'm honest), we see at once that she's been living her best life for all these years.

i think i've talked abt this before on discord but like, i don't Get tsubasa's dark power arc i think. i just... don't get how it pertains to tsubasa as a character. even after rewatching s1 i still don't get it. like, okay, we have a few different concepts to work with here.

how and why tsubasa got the dark power

the dark power as a desire for power and winning for the sake of winning

a secret third thing that is largely irrelevant to our discussion (and largely nonspecific to tsubasa or the dark power, though frankly the dark power is a very nonspecific thing anyways) but it exists and i can yap about if prompted (warning: i WILL get very off track)

when i first watched metal masters, my assumption was that tsubasa got the dark power because he was involved with dark nebula. this would sort of make sense but also not really, seeing as how he wasn't actually on their side. this interpretation is seemingly completely unintended, but i kind of prefer it to the actual explanation, which is that tsubasa... got it from fighting ryuga?? because the dark power is like covid but really selective i guess.

this brings us to the question of why tsubasa specifically, which is the big thing that's hanging over this whole arc for me.

so like, for tsubasa the dark power is all "GRAHHH i must WIN!!!!!" right? but that's... not relevant to tsubasa's character up to this point at all. his focus on things such as getting stronger and winning are generally at a pretty normal level generally, and while there are a couple possibilities here... both of them are quite clearly not the case.

first up, seemingly the most tsubasa ever cares about winning in s1 is when he's up against ryuga, which is reasonable given that he's a major threat. so, maybe frustration at not being able to stop him, right? the problem here is twofold. while certainly a lot would have been avoided if tsubasa was able to defeat ryuga before battle bladers, that fight is not the root of the dark power. instead it's the one during battle bladers, where kyoya was the only one to get obliterated by ryuga afterwards (and benkei i think but also the show doesn't count him as part of the Getting Beat By Ryuga Club)

secondly, this is not a situation tsubasa is put through in baku- by the time a threat like ryuga pops up again his arc is over and he gets basically written out of the rest of the season. and of course, as i said, the dark power is about winning for the sake of winning- not something tsubasa particularly cares about.

the second possibility i only thought about during my rewatch of s1 and frankly would've been an insane move for this show (albeit a potentially really interesting one)

i think if i were tsubasa and someone told me this only to find out later they were talking about their son i would have turned them into a pile of blood on the spot. of course this is quite clearly not what the writers were going for, because if it was we would've seen tsubasa lash out at ginga, and also i just don't think the writers would do this especially considering fury.

This works amazingly as ammo until Bill points out Dipper would also receive an appellation, should the alternate dimension meet him! He'd be lucky to get 'Gay Dipper', all things considered! Bill omitted the details! If they had all the info there was WAY worse they coulda come up with! Bill basically took a bullet for him!

While Dipper begrudgingly has to admit Bill has a point, he wishes he weren't such a dick about it.

Made an agreement with a friend to both read each other's favourite book series' so now I'm reading the Stormlight archives - and I just finished chapter seven of Words of Radiance - and it made me feel things.

Seeing you be very normal about small details in the show got me thinking about Pomni, and I was wondering if you've thought about the possibility that Pomni probably hasn't eaten in several days. Like, we know they don't NEED to eat.. but it's probably not healthy for her mentally to skip the process of 'taking care of your body'. Ragatha, for example, says that participating in sleeping despite the fact they don't need to- helps keep them mentally steady. Idk just a thought..

i DO think that like. theres definitely some psychological aspects to a lot of things like eating and sleeping that i feel like tadc characters would be at risk of neglecting... like with something like sleep, i think they can go without it for a LONG time without physical fatigue BUT at the same time like. psychologically sleep is IMPORTANT. i dont know all the science of it but iirc sleep isnt just a physical need but i get the feeling thats not smth that occurs to people in the circus often :[ ragatha seems aware enough of the benefit of the routine of sleeping and how the adventures can be helpful for that to BUT i imagine even she doesnt fully realize that sleep is still pretty important for them, just in a different way

on that note i could definitely see eating being similar!!!! its not something thatll physically harm a person in the circus if they dont eat but also eating is a deeply ingrained aspect of human life, and while i struggle to place a specific problem abstaining from it for too long in the circus couls cause, i COULD imagine it being like. at LEAST psychologically disorienting. especially with jax claiming he feels hungry??? it implies that its similar to the breathing thing that they may not phsyically need to , but their mind still assumes they do....

i DO get curious if they have like. regular meals?? i liek the hc that theres some sort of kitchen in the circus (seeing the weird little couch area was SOOO exciting for me, im super invested in finding out more about the layout of the circus!!!!! i like details like that theyre FUN) so imagine theres SOME way to access food just like how they have bedrooms (though, i get the feeling caine doesnt have a complete idea of what sleep IS but thats a diff thing). but also with them having a feast at the end of the pilot could imply they do, but with that 'reward' not being brought up at ALL in the next three eps (caine has the opportunity to mention it but noticably doesnt, especially in ep 2 where he just full on Leaves after the adventure- it seems more like he just sorta congratulates people on completing adventures and makes sure everyones accounted for and calls it a day) makes me think that communal meals are NOT super common, or at the very least them being coordinated by caine isnt...

all that to say that if shes only been part of the ep 1 feast (i cannot imagine she ate i feel like she was too out of it to do Anything😭) i am unsure if shed have gone out of her way to find a kitchen... if she wanted to know i think shed feel comfortable asking ragatha about it, but i wonder if its even crossed her mind???? and i imagine that would be jarring for her to realize, and also generally psychologically Not The Best for her...
