Been thinking about Muri's business's relationship with Spyke's. Muri sells snails for cash, Spyke accepts snails for services. There are several things this could imply:

Muri built a large chunk of her business on her inside knowledge of Spyke's snail lust, and the only reason people buy her snails is to trade them with Spyke. This would make both services largely co-dependent, although Muri would need Spyke's business more than he needed hers. Is it a plot they concocted to boost revenue? A money laundering scheme? This, of course, assumes Spyke is unique in his snails-4-rolls business model and Super Sea Snails are useless outside of him. This, in turn, implies that Spyke is a complete fucking freak.

Spyke resells the snails he recieves back to Muri in an infinite loop. Definitely some sort of money laundering scheme. You don't want to know what their actual business is.

Urchins kind of in general have a thing for snails and regard them as valuable, due to use as food, currency or some other thing. Her selling them is just what Urchins do, as they play into the business of every Urchin entrepreneur as some sort of tradition.

It ain't that deep and Muri just capitalized on a bootleg-shilling street hobo by selling the hobo's favorite snack on a nearby street corner, knowing he's known to accept it in lieu of payment, basically pocketing his profits and letting him provide the actual services like a Chuck E Cheese token machine.

Muri knows Spyke eats Super Sea Snails, but thinks everyone does it and believes she's selling snacks. Urchins are strange.

The above, but her main gig is selling her other wares, and just sells off her surplus snails as a side thing. Perhaps the Urchins only operate businesses as a way to obtain snails, and all 3 have a dragon's hoard of illicit molluscs in their basements.

Muri's and her business are known by word of mouth, she has never made any advertising for it.. Inklings and Octos just went all around the splatbands saying "Theres this urchin chick that sells super sea snails at affordable price, you should definetily go buy from her if you run out of snails!!" And thats how she sky-rocketed. That and her often using her good-looks so that they buy more stuff from her. But she can't really do any gear stuff, so she sells the super sea snails so that Spyke n Murch can do the actual thing.

U GET IT COMPLETELY. IDK if this is canon or not, but i think that super sea snails are only food. Like, for urchins. They're super hard to get, but they're only food. Spyke basically made them some sort of luxury item in Inkopolis, making them look like super valuable between Ink n Octo-lings. Muri noticing this, decides to sell super sea snails knowing she'll make mad profit from that.

Also thought abt a few options abt how Muri gets the snails.

Her family "farms" Super Sea Snails back in her hometown. (which is the same as Spykes and Murchs) She takes a BUNCH of them to sell in the splatlands, aswell as to give to her two brothers as a treat

She has a super sea snail provider that (initially) gave her only a limited amount of super sea snails. Yet her being the freak woman she is, she blackmailed and threatened the owner asking to give her as much snails as she wanted. With no other choice they had to accept, making Muri the one in control of the partnership. Kinda. Because the owner tends to flee and run away everytime she wants to talk with them.. making the poor delivery jellyfish have to deal with her.

You can choose to believe which of the two whether u like the most or which one u think fits her better.

BONUS FUN FACT: Muri cannot eat Super Sea Snails because she finds them disgusting in taste after a childhood experience. (She ate too many and threw up, the taste is now sickening to her) In the present she finds them extremely adorable buut shes fine and doesnt care abt other urchins eating them

Alright the angry mob appears to have died down a bit and I’m a tad calmer than I was when it first came out so I’m gonna. Talk about my thoughts on that stream a bit. Tw mentions of suicide bc that’s. What the arc was about (looks at Wilbur with bloodshot angry bleeding glazed over eyes and explodes his liver with my mind)

First things first I still can’t rewatch that lore stream like regardless of my opinion on how poorly done the end of that arc was it is so legitimately (I hate this word sorry) triggering to see ctommy say that stuff to him I can’t do it brah… and the fact that he didn’t add the trigger warning until midway through the stream is laughably irresponsible (I was not laughing I was hyperventilating but I’m laughing now). So my memory of the stream might be a bit faulty and I’m sorry if I get shit wrong pero oh well.

I don’t know how any of u are making jokes out of this I genuinely can’t fathom how this is funny .. maybe I’m just a hater but the Utah shit was just so insanely stupid like hey I’m gonna bait u guys into thinking my character is understandably and realistically suicidal again for months with red flags and mentions of ‘leaving where nobody can find me’ popping up in every damn apology stream mixed with mentions and confirmations of his previous mental health issues. and then we’re gonna. throw away any nuanced message about any of that and the process of choosing to heal and stay in this world for your loved ones who are literally BEGGING YOU NOT TO LEAVE out the window for some half baked immersion shattering “joke.”

Disagree with my reluctance to see this as lighthearted and “not that deep” all you want but the trigger warning was added (albeit late) for a reason. If you make an arc that makes people so nervous your character who has ALREADY COMPLETED A SUICIDE ATTEMPT ONCE might do it again that they’re making hundreds of meme images and pictures to act as some kind of uncomfortable lulling reassurance that we might get SOME semblance of a good ending then …. U may not want to like idk treat it like a joke.

I didn’t want him to kill himself. I think if he had conveyed to the audience that someone telling him “stay, I need you, I love you,” meant enough to him that he decided to change his mind, and then told ctommy he was going to get better somehow before he saw him again, I would have been fine with that. That’s like. The perfect outcome for me. I know c!crime are codependent. I know they have work to do. But can you like … srsly sit there and tell me what we got instead was ANY better.

ok. idk if u mean, type out a post or just one-on-one? but im gonna type out this post and you can tell me about ur ocs whatever way you'd like :3

my ocs don't really have a comprehensive story. at all. like there's no beginning -> middle -> end because i have a lot of important characters that have important things happen to them at different times. for instance, two people end up in a different realm and end up starting a family there, sometime in the 1920s or 30s. then there's the entire saga of one of the descendants getting kidnapped and taken to a different realm, and how he grew up, and how the unluckiness of his family followed him. THEN, there's the story of a cult in the pacific northwest. so like???

anyway, here's some worldbuilding basics and some character info.

(this is long. my bad)

world building:

There's three main "realities" or "dimensions." They're called Pladim, Edgirst, and Atryss. Pladim was the first created, then Edgirst split from it, then Atryss split from Edgirst.

There's also places called liminaries, which... are just the backrooms in a different font. not the original backrooms, not the fandomized backrooms, but a Secret Third Thing (that is also a secret to me). People can end up in these, and get out of them, but not like in the backrooms lore. anyway,

Pladim is the normal world, as we know it. However, the supernatural is a lot more accepted as something that's probably true. Evidence for the supernatural is more substantial and common than it is IRL. if you said "i'm haunted," 100% seriously, most people would go "yeah, probably, go burn some sage" instead of "that's not real/there's a different explanation."

Atryss is the afterlife. Kind of. It's complicated. It's not heaven, or hell, or an underworld, or anything. It's a void. There are living creatures here, but they're nowhere near human. They're like deep-sea creatures. They feed on the spirits of the dead. Ever since the development of religions, it's been a little more complicated; if a group of people believes in something enough, it will become true. That's how we got gods. That's how we got an afterlife. But, then everyone decided the afterlife should be different, and you were judged based on whether or not you were a good person. That's hard to arrange. Eventually, a warden, The Watchman, came into being. It made a system and enforces it. Basically: those that believe in reincarnation get reincarnated. It's easier to recycle a human, anyway. Those that believe in a "heaven" or "hell" or any other sort of interactive afterlife experience these through "dreams." The body is dead but the mind is still going, in a sense. (Except all people in Atryss are husks, like cicada shells). These people sorted by The Watchman, who has a completely arbitrary set of rules that change frequently. Sometimes he'll throw people who are usually in Heaven into Hell for a couple of minutes, just for fun. The catch is, the beings in his realm need to feed, but it's harder to feed on humans still dreaming. The indomitable human spirit, and all that. People are more "solid" in Atryss when they are remembered in either Pladim or Edgirst. So, once they're mostly forgotten, they get eaten ^_^

Edgirst is the "middle ground." Edgirst is a fantasy reality and sometimes acts as a place between life and death. There's magic and creepy little creatures and deities. Edgirst is where most deities live, actually. Deities rule over ordinary things most beings experience/know of: love, water, luck, pick-pocketing, fear, etc. The deities are strongest in Edgirst because that's their home, but Edgirst and Pladim are actually very close together, or "blended," in a sense. Edgirst is the same size as Earth but does not extend beyond that; for example, the sky in Edgirst is a net and catches those that fly too high. The realities can "blend" in certain points that seem to be unconnected (note: i have a couple ideas for the connection but haven't decided on one). Deities aren't the only things that live in Edgirst: angels, demons, humans, vampires, animal-human hybrids, demigods, etc etc etc all live in Edgirst as well. They can all live in Pladim, as well, but it's much easier to survive unnoticed in Edgirst than it is in Pladim.

wow ok that's a lot! now let's look at some places

point savaford, colorado: where most of the important characters that are in Pladim reside. it's not particularly noteworthy within itself

yarwood: haven't decided on a location, except that it's in the northeast USA. where other important characters live

oregon/washington border: entrance to Edgirst that is commonly used

middle of nowhere, Texas: entrance to liminaries that is commonly used.

unnamed research institute in New Orleans, Lousiana: supernatural research institute. don't look at me it's not tma i prommy

MY FAVORITE PART. CHARACTERS. (for the sake of time, i'm going with my Main 4 that i mention all the time)

arthur murphy (he/any): most cringefail loser ever. his special interest is fnaf and he dresses in pseudo-victorian gothic clothes daily. he's popular on tiktok, both for cosplaying and for being haunted. she gets haunted so much because she has no impulse control and loves buying things from antique stores and flea markets. she has a collection of dolls. their most haunted one rn has a ghost attached to it that likes to leave blood and guts on his pillow! instead of getting rid of it, he started being very nice to it so that he wouldn't get killed. and it worked! they're besties now. arthur lives in point savaford, but used to live in arizona with his mom. he moved to Colorado to live with his sister after his mom died. Also his dad is the god of thievery, lies, gambling, trickery, etc etc etc.

gwen shrapner (she/her): gwen has a long, convoluted story that she does NOT want anyone to know about. she was born in oklahoma, but moved around a bit, and now she lives in yarwood. she lives with her dad. she used to live with her dad, mom, and two brothers. long story short, her older brother got possessed (not rlly "possessed" but let's roll w/ it) and killed gwen's mom and younger brother. has been online friends with arthur for several years. arthur is the only person besides family that knows her before her brother started killing ppl. she's started developing a new life in yarwood, and even made some friends C: and also she has light powers but doesn't know it yet.

quick intermission! an explanation of the salinas family:

the salinases are a family that live in Edgirst. remember the two ppl who ended up in Edgirst in the ~1930s and decided to just start a family there? yeah, that's these guys.

family tree: carla + santiago had two kids, francisca and vicente. francisca and her husband Gilberto had two daughters, Catalina and Josefina. Vicente and his wife Diana had three sons: Martín, then a set of twins, Diego and Carlos.

remember that guy that got kidnapped and taken to a different realm as a kid? that's carlos. he was raised as william in a town in Texas. and he is also gwen's dad.

the Salinases have superpowers. i keep changing the reason why. it's a hereditary thing, i guess.

oh btw, more family! catalina and amos (her husband) had a daughter, paulina. amos already had a son, wilbur, before he married catalina. all four of them got killed by the cult amos was raised in

josefina was in a lesbian polycule and ended up having a son, who i named jasper, but i want to change it lol

martín had two children with his wife, matilda: laura and marco (who used to be named mike). martín got driven to insanity thru supernatural means (and a little bit possessed?) and killed himself. matilda also got driven to insanity thru supernatural means and killed laura and maybe herself.

diego has no kids. that he knows of

william/carlos married mallory and had three kids: connor, gwen, and christopher. i already mentioned all of that mess up above.

the cult mostly lived in a commune/town, although there were some undercover "scouts" that lived other places. they lived on the oregon/washington border.

note that "lived" is in past tense.

the cult started as a death cult. they needed a bunch of ppl who had pledged themselves to the god (who remains unknown at this time) to die painfully, usually by bleeding out (hence the cult name). when ppl didn't convert (BECAUSE WHY WOULD THEY), they just started repopulating like rabbits

THAT'S HOW WE GOT THE WRIGHT FAMILY.

there's three siblings: amos, jezebel, and a third guy i keep forgetting to name. he's not actually that important.

amos decided to hit da bricks. he had two kids, as previously mentioned.

unnamed guy has a lot of kids but kind of impossible to count?

sigh. jezebel had 11.

in order from oldest to youngest: Cecil Weaver (taken in my dad's family, not in the cult), Zachary Wright (re-named himself as Zachariah Schneider after escaping), Peter Wright (re-named himself as Peter Richardson after escaping), Minato Kishimoto (taken in by dad, not in cult), Rory Wright, Leylo Wright (re-named herself as Leylo Gromit after escaping), Oliver Wright, Hannah Wright (re-named himself as James Bellamy after escaping), Cynthia Wright, Molly-Mae Wright, and Cornelius Wright (later re-named Callum Smith by adoptive family, with Callum's help picking out the name).

four of these kids are dead: rory, oliver, cynthia, and molly-mae

the surviving kids survived because the goddess of insanity & unreality, Manea, was able to sense Something Being Amiss and decided to hijack a car about it.

she was in the car with her husband, Nicostratus (who is an angel and also runs a hospital/research facility), Nicostratus's brother Ornias (demon with a radio show), Nicostratus's and Ornias's sister, Opal (Secret Third Thing, full-time femme fatale), Oscar (family friend of the Salinases), and Marco (who's like, 17 at the time, and was taken in by Oscar).

they're all coming back from a day of fun when Manea climbs out of the back seat, takes the wheel, drives thru a chain-link fence and parks outside a house. and runs in. there's already a dead child up front and one in obvious shock, so they all get out of the car and go into the house (and one, Oscar, stays with the James outside). they all tell Mike to stay in the car. instead he goes into the cellar and saves leylo from a dog attack.

most of the other cult members were dead; but some survived their attempt and were jailed, some chickened out at the last moment and were (mostly) jailed, and some were innocent kids that survived.

fun plot twist: marco and zach were friends. the wrights weren't supposed to have contact with the outside world, but both marco and zach were hunting for food one day and met (on opposite sides of the fence). eventually, after several meetings, marco convinced zach to hop over and they hunted & foraged together. marco mostly gave the food he foraged to zach, since he didn't have as many mouths to feed, and his dad had a stable job. this was a really important part of zach realizing that his upbringing was fucked up and he and marco are still best buds.

OTHER TWO CHARACTERS THAT ARE PRETTY IMPORTANT/I'VE FLESHED OUT

leylo gromit (she/her): she was adopted by Oscar, along with Zach (James and Peter were adopted by other ppl that lived close to Oscar). changed her last name to gromit because her best friend had the last name wallace. so they're wallace and gromit :] she has dissociative identity disorder and one of her headmates fronted for ~2 years and started a new life in Georgia. his name is mike. he left without telling anyone and established a life across the country. so leylo wakes up one morning in an apartment she doesn't recognize, being served an eviction notice for an apartment she didn't know was hers, and then being called by a manager at a job she didn't know she had, and then texted by a girlfriend she does not know. she has a closet of clothes she doesn't recognize, including a work uniform, and a nametag for a fast-food chain with "MIKE" on it. so she goes into work (after awkwardly asking her manager where she works) and is greeted by taylor wallace, who is apparently her friend? and she mentions she's really confused, and also getting evicted, and he's like hey! i have a spare bedroom i'm trying to rent out. since you get along well with winter, why don't you move in? and leylo doesn't have a better idea and could totally overpower him physically if it came to it, so she agrees. and she's like "haha winter is probably a cat." no. it's a five year old child. but leylo DOES get along well with winter and it all works out. eventually she mentions that she wants to go by leylo and she/her (thankfully her name or gender marker was never changed). she just kinda ghosts the gf :( because how do you tell someone you've apparently dated for over a year "sorry idk you" ??? anyway, her friend from oregon/washington, milo, comes down to georgia one day on a road trip and, by chance, sees leylo in a walmart. they have a very heartfelt reunion that annoys the shit out of other walmart shoppers. and milo asks, "hey, why did you leave without saying goodbye?" and leylo finally tells people that she has no fucking clue how she got there. and then she gets a fun trip to the psychiatrist and gets diagnosed. and then she's like "hey, maybe i should text that person mike dated and like, let her know." so she does, and it ends decently well. she and jessica (the girl mike dated) remain friends. taylor gets a boyfriend, timothy (who is the son of manea and nicostratus but that's not important rn. yeah he was also kidnapped. it's fine dw about it). it all goes well until it doesn't! cult of the bloodless flesh starts acting up again. jessica dies, and taylor and tim get yeeted into separate liminaries. so leylo's now the legal guardian of, like, a 10 year old. they move to a duplex in colorado. later, arthur and his sister move into the other side of the duplex. also arthur's haunted doll is haunted by her sister btw

zach (he/him but doesn't care): adopted by Oscar, and gets to live with Marco and Leylo. he suffered a TBI after almost dying during The Sacrifice, which limits his daily functioning and working capabilities. he manages to mostly recuperate, though. Marco goes on a Sidequest to resurrect Manea, who was killed by her sister. yeah, gods can die, it's fine. anyway, when Marco comes back, Zach's still living with Oscar. tbh i have not figured out this timeline all the way, but Zach, Marco, Manea, and two others named Jackie and Indigo moved into a house together. The house is a large house, in Edgirst, near a pocket entrance thingy to Pladim. they have a pet creature named Chip. he's like the rake but not really.

i have more to talk about (gwen's family and friends, arthur's friends, silas van der zee, more about william and the salinases, etc.) but i've been working on this for over four hours or something. dawg i need to stop

honeyworks is seriouslly sleeping on prime content that i would devour whole and especially now that hanipre is shutting down there's even less of a chance for them to interact and have more core character development </3

but i REALLY love the potential in dynamics between all four of them ( Ken, Aizou, Arisa, Yujiro((+kuro and YUJIRO KITTY. YUJIRO KITTY BECOME REAL))

i guess this is why i really love the roleswap me and lisi concocted, and u can kinda see it as a recurring topic in my fics haha but i just think they'll all get along really well

like here are the canon relationships established by haniwa:

Aizou and Ken: two brothers that used to be close, fell apart because of their family falling apart, have been slowly piecing their bond back bit by bit

Ken and Arisa: two people that never thought they would fall in love!! ken being the type of person arisa hated!!!!! arisa being very different from the usual girls ken messed around with; tthey're different, but end up loving each other so much! it's a little messy, but they're working through it at their own pace. its nothing like ken's previous relatioships, but it makes him so happy aizou and yujiro: two idols that absolutely HATED each other at the start, forced to work together! but they realized that they really weren't that different, and had the same dream! and they care SO much about each other!!! though they're bad at showing it , haha . taking it from aizou himself, yujiro taught him what love was :')

aizou and arisa: these are mostly hanipre / one scene from the novels but!! aizou approves of arisa :) and they even laugh together and tease ken!!!! theyre literally already sibligns he's already accepted his sister in law sobsssfjsf

yujiro and arisa/ken: also hanipre exclusive, yujiro sees arisa and ken and thinks that that's the type of relationship that he would want..

but what if!!!!!! what if haniwa pushed the samishigariya quartet more!!!!!!!!!!! think of what we can have!!!!!!!!!

think of arisa!!! resident narumi sena superfan!! ken brings her home and aizou is there with yujiro writing a song or smt and instead of fangirling over them being idols or treating them differently she just treats them like normal students!!!! i think about big sis arisa soooo much like normally aiyuu are really against girls and think they're shallow because literally everyone and their mom is always praising them at school because theyre bigshot idols and then there is arisa, treating them like shibasaki aizou and someya yujiro, and not as aizou and yujiro from lipxlip. (like she literally calls aizou shibasaki-kun's little brother aizou or something close to that, and we KNOW that she's a narumi sena superfan so she most definitely knows who aizou actually is but she still chooses to call him based on his relation to her shibasaki :)). she also doesn't use her knowing them at all doesnt flaunt it or use them to get to sena

like ahh i like to imagine that aiyuu look up to her like a big sister figure (even though shes shorter lmfao) she's very kind and also manages to control the mess that is shibasaki ken i think they'll admire her for that and omg imagine them working together and asking sena for a favor for arisa like they go out of their way to make their big sister figure happy breaks down crying ueeueeuhsnje

ok now this is just me rambling haha but also imagine ken and yujiro.... they make fun of aizou toggether and ken tells yujiro what aizou was like as a child and they laugh evilly

after a million years plus an addition million years post the show ending i am finally just now scribbling out my takes and stuff on fethry's immediate family a la how they would fit into dt17 canon

the breakdown in my mind is that all 3 of eider and lulubelle's children are Strange and Ambiguously Disordered (fethry taking the most after his mother) and also to some degree have inherited eider's legendary strength (abner being basically on par with his father and fethry as the baby and the runt of the three being much more close to just having normal person strength, though still a bit surprising for how noodly he is)

blazestar is the clan leader but her warrior name was blazepool ^_^ i only mention this because when i came up with her name i thought it was soo pretty then i remembered if shes the clan leader she has 2 have the suffix -star. so the nice name i came up with went out teh window entirely. she became clan leader after the former leader and his deputy DIED in the same night due to a mysterious incident. nobody rlly cared though rip bozos. time 4 milf power. the medicine cat literally had a vision about how blazepool needs 2 be the new clan leader. thats how they decided so suddenly after that night in... garry'sclan...

missingfur is literally an old man he needs to stop killing people over territory boundaries but he doesnt have any other pastimes since he doesnt have any good stories or even ticks

pigeonfoot is the medicine cat and hes billy if you cant tell. i think all my designs r pretty obvious though so whatever. he knows everything awful that is going on but hes so dumn he forgets it instantly after starclan tells him. he caused a girl 2 spiral into insanity entirely on accident. he so cute i put little stars in his eyes because i thought that would be a fun idea for medcats 2 have stars in their eyes like how leaders r sometimes drawn with a star on their chest or forehead (like i did w blazestar..) i legit based his fur patterning and stuff off of a pigeon because again. cuteness points. the vm influence is deep under my skin like scarabs

BRIARFACE the little thing next 2 one of their ears is actually supposed 2 be a briar flower idk if you can see it. the token former kittypet. she used to live in a house but then she saw blazestar and missingfur on her patio one day and blazestar was like "what are your pronouns" and briarface (then some silly housecat name like uhh sweetums) was like. "she/they, i guess, but my housefolk have no way of knowing that, they just think im a tom" and blazestar was all like "if you join our clan we will call you by your preferred pronouns" and she was like folding missingfur's ears closed the whole time since he insisted on coming to the new recruit and wouldve been a bitch. and sweetums said "what?". and blazestar said "what." genuinely not understanding what they were not understanding. 2 weeks later she would become part of the family and be christened briarface because briar is like briar rose and it sounds pretty and face because they have distinctive facial patterning.

mapleclaw is the strongest toughest roughest prettiest girl in garry'sclan and she goe's two hell every night to get better at it. this isnt a secret though everybody knows and nobody minds. pigeonfoot found out from a vision and told everyone and they were like. cool. and he was like oh i guess its fine then. must not be that bad. like her venturiantale counterpart she also lost her entire original family when she was young to murder carried out by none other than JIMMY CASKET... a name that gets sillier the more i think about it. in this au or whatever his name is gravelblade. more on gravelblade later..

rustedpaw oh my god.. el gato ever. he also had all his remaining family die for unspecified reasons when he was quite young. blazestar finds him sitting pathetically in a pile of blood next to one or more of his family members corpsces. takes him home adopts him without question and apprentices him to gravelstep (gravelblade's non evil default form) but then he tries 2 kill missingfur in his sleep and #fails and blazestar is like!!! not my platonic babygirl guy best friend with tax benefits!! and they both decide 2 DIG A HOLE IN THE GROUND LIKE A FOXHOLE and make him live in there 4 being a foxheart (attempted murder). then he just lives there. screaming to be heard. sometimes a cat will stop by to talk with him out of pity or genuine interest. sometime it will be mapleclaw as she's also in charge of bringing him food. also gravelstep is bummed abt being out of an apprentice bht blazestar is like "Don't worry... youre still my fav deputy :)" and gravelstep says " i am your only deputy stop acting like its a superlative"

foxflower used to be a friend of pigeonfoot's who had like a big crush on him and was contantly teasing him, flirting with him and every1 thought they were going to become mates but pigeonfoot just wasnt into her like that. this was solidified when he became a medicine cat and foxflower was like. oh fuck now i REALLY cant have him. so instead she dedicated her life to evil. she still harasses pigeonfoot while hes working and in defense mode mapleclaw killed her early on. they forgot 2 bury her and she stood up and started talking and walking around again 24 hrs later. this was how they discovered every1 in garry'sclan or venturianclan or whatever im calling it has infinity lives..

because they exist purely 2 entertain starclan and nothing they do or that happens 2 them matterz. blazestar actually found this out while she was becoming leader but 4got 2 tell everyone ^_^;

What are elements of the soft retcon you love and what elements do you still prefer from the original continuity?

AFTER OUR BINGE, I noticed a lot of things.

but im too scared to blast this to the masses cuz it involves some tinfoil hats on my part so 😭 It’s kind of long and dumb.

The soft retcon stuff I like is definitely the design overhaul. I dunno. I really like the more saturated and bright look. Both for the aesthetics and the characters. Though I’ve seen people rly hate that. …Not my problem though!

A BIG THING I LIKE: I think I like the soft-retcon Membrane family waaaay better.

After watching the main series’ I kinda noticed how much harder it was to root for Dib, or how kiiinda flat the other members of the family were. Don’t get it twisted, I liked ‘em fine as they were. They just didn’t really do anything for me. It’s definitely evident that JV and co didn’t quite pin down what they wanted for them yet. (This kinda thing is pretty normal for anyone I think, sometimes ur characters are just gonna be wips for a while, and IZ was cut off really fast)

The overhauls in the soft retcon (primarily in ETF) such as making Dib’s general motivation more personally driven, or making the family dynamic a little better (and cooler in some cases) I think makes them all a bit more palatable as characters? I dunno. Lol. I just like seeing more positive things. (I don’t view this as in-universe “character development” tho that’s kinda weird imo, sometimes it really just is easier to say that somebody just changed their mind). The Membranes in ETF definitely feel like a fleshed-out culmination of stuff that was getting rolling in the comics.

Even if the gainax ending in ETF punches me in the face.

(And believe me i got a myriad of issues with the comics, but those guys aren’t really one of them) 

The stuff I prefer in the original continuity though is pretty much everything and anything having to do with the Irkens and other aliens.

BECAUSE THAT STUFF WAS PRETTY GREAT and I think it got shafted pretty badly in the comics and ETF. I can see why though. I read some JV interview from 2015 (I think on IGN? Idfk. I should’n’t have been on incognito), around the time the IZ comics were getting started. Long story short, he wanted to use the comics as a means to address all the problems he had with the Membranes in the og series and kinda… revise them. Which, gr8 yay, they needed it imo

As for Zim? He said Zim wouldn’t change.

Call it my tinfoil hat moment, but I think that that mindset was exactly the issue… Zim and co. were VERY defined and fleshed out by the og series end (as wack as some later eps were gonna be), but I think just leaving them to the wayside like that as characters that don’t need change (i.e. that much attention) is exactly why Zim, The Tallest, and much of the other space-centric stuff kinda got warped and flanderized. Or, hell, not referenced altogether. Zim got dumber, the Tallest got dumber, and a lot of the other space things specifically involving ID2 kinda… phased out.

Sometimes what you remember a character being like, wasn’t what they were like at all. And if u don’t reaaally work with them, ur gonna exaggerate or even forget whole things. The Membranes were worked on with the intent of fleshing them out and reworking them to what we end up seeing in ETF.

Zim? He wasn’t. He was just considered fine as he was, and while I agree with that on principle, in the comics execution he doesn’t quite feel the same. He feels more like… maybe a caricature is too harsh? But. Definitely weird. I’m just not nearly as invested. :( (There are a couple exceptions, but. Meh)

But I should also mention in that same interview the point of the comics wasn’t really for lore or continuing setups from season 2, but just random anthologies and a sandbox to fix up some characters *cough* the membranes. Unfortunately, that didn’t include the titular one. Meh. What can ya do.

SO YEAH. ORIGINAL CONTINUITY ZIM AND CO? Yes. They WERE more fleshed out and defined. But plz, that doesn’t mean nothing else can be done with them! ya gotta actually work with them! Character expansion happens naturally. …Eh. What would I know? I don’t have a dang series.

This is kind of an aside: But I really don’t like the idea of trying to make the soft retcon retroactively fit into the old continuity yet have both things play out in the exact same way. Sometimes it makes sense, other times it just makes something get framed a whole a lot worse unintentionally by trying to deem it as “unseen character development.” Trying to tie everything together under a single path is kinda dumb imo. There’s no way to do that without making something a lot more FUCKEDDDD. Or way more complicated. IZ was workshopped waaay too much in it’s run to do that jfhfhchv

And, personally, I don’t really like making things more complicated tbh. Sometimes— as dumb as this sounds— not looking into stuff is much easier to swallow than trying to make everything work as a single unit.

All a soft retcon is is just: “things pretty much are setup the same they just played out a bit differently.” You may as well call ETF a soft retcon of Zim Issue #1 /s There’s just no way, man. God forbid this go into anime territory with “HERE IS A DIFFERENT TIMELINE” OH GOD NO!!

It’s ok guys really. Sometimes… things just be like that aight…

and that’s why at the end of the day we hand-wave it by not getting too deep, or pick and choose what we like and head out :DD

and let’s be real despite what i praise i don’t enjoy everything from the soft retcon, if my zim rant wasn’t enough. Like how i don’t enjoy everything from the comics or OG series. And despite my wording I actually don’t take all of this that personally.

…But it’d sure be nice if i could have all the good stuff from all of it mushed together. Gimme the alien lore from the og series, gimme the membranes and earth from ETF, and—

A very long word vomit about The Traveler’s age because some people still insist that they’re minor or have “minor body” and I’ve had enough

Note: I’m referring to the English voicelines because I don’t have enough understanding of the original Chinese dub. Also, I’m gonna refer The Twins with they/them since either one can be Traveler or Abyss Twin.

It’s pretty much already established from the Archon Quest (Act 1: Chapter IV) that the twins are at least 500+ years so I’m not gonna delve deep into it. Here’s some things people bring out every time The Traveler’s age brought up

Characters’ voicelines about The Traveler being underage

The Traveler’s origin isn’t known to just anyone. Of course there are people who are aware of The Traveler’s origin such as Fischl & Xinyan (from their voicelines) and the Archons. But most people only know The Traveler as “traveler from afar” which is what Amber introduced them as to Kaeya in the prologue. 

And even before meeting Kaeya, Paimon only introduced The Traveler to Amber in an ambiguous manner (that they’re lost their sibling in a long journey) and not mentioning anything about another world. 

The Traveler also praised Albedo when they first met after he correctly concluded that they’re from another world.

If everyone know that Traveler is not from Teyvat, the above exchange wouldn’t make sense. So it’s safe to assume most people (and NPCs) are just assuming Traveler’s age and not letting them drink, which brings us to the next point.

People won’t let The Traveler drink

Honestly I don’t remember any NPC that forbade The Traveler to drink but I saw some people mentioning Charles? I don’t remember when that happened but in the idle dialogue, he gives The Traveler liquor recommendations

Also since Venti’s and Kaeya’s voicelines are most frequently brought up in this argument I’m gonna bring that up too:

Kaeya, as mentioned before, is assumed to not know about The Traveler’s true origin. Also, in Windblume Festival he offered The Traveler wine (should this indicate that he now knows about The Traveler’s being an alien??? save that for another lore discussion). 

Venti’s voiceline is from the middle of the prologue, where he showed no sign of knowing The Traveler’s origin, or at least hide it because Jean and Diluc were also there. Later though, in Zhongli’s voiceline (which took place after the prologue and Liyue arc), Venti apparently gave some alcohol to The Traveler and tricked them into getting drunk.

It’s worth mentioning The Traveler acts annoyed whenever people refuse serving them drinks on multiple occasion yet never tried to correct them. I’ve seen people mentioning that China have laws about this and The Traveler drinking in game would count as “alcohol promotion” which put Mhy at risk of getting banned or having to change the game’s rating (which isn’t good if you want as many players as you can). I can’t verify this because I don’t understand ch law and I’m not spending my time learning about game censorship law in china.

They’re still minor mentally/still have the mind of a minor because they slept in those 500 years

The Twins are immortal beings and can’t age physically. We can see the Abyss Twin (who didn’t sleep for 500 years) still looks the same as before the Unknown God took them away. And how do you know that they’ve only lived for, say, 15 years before sleeping? The Traveler is shown to be mature and capable of making difficult decision like an adult. 

Also it’s funny that people mostly bring out the number 15 or 14 from speculating about Mondstat’s drinking age being 16 yo (like Germany irl), even though it’s pretty much confirmed that the drinking age in Mondstat is 18 yo (pictured: Diluc’s 18th birthday bash from the manga)

and finally for the most popular argument:

It doesn’t matter they’re 500 years old, they still have a minor body

1. What the fuck is a minor body 2. Mhy only uses 5 body models and those models are supposed to represent people in a variety of ages. The body models are not indicative of their ages. Not everyone with that model are the same age and not everyone with different models have different ages. 

Regarding to characters’ age, I think Fischl is the only one we vaguely know about their age from her vision lore, she’s at least 16 or older (she received her vision at 14 and we know no one has received electro vision in the last 2 years). Noelle explicitly tells us she’s not old enough to drink, while Hu Tao is described to already passed her teenage years. Keqing is one of Liyue Qinxing, you know, people with the highest influence over Liyue’s whole economy and is unlikely to be a teenager. And they ALL have the same model.

3. People who looks younger than they are actually are exist in real life lmao (from being short like me or have baby face)

Also worth mentioning the “we’re only getting dating event with minor characters so The Traveler is minor-coded” argument:

None of those character have confirmed age, let me remind you that body models are not indicative of the character’s age

It’s a hangout event, not “dating event”

You people will lose your mind when future hangout events come lmao (like with Diona or other other characters that doesn’t have young girl/young boy body models) 

“I hope Mhy would release official age to make this clear”

I don’t think they’ll do that because The Traveler is a self-insert character. Stating a clear age would make some people relate even less to The Traveler’s character. Even if Mhy eventually gives The Traveler official age, it’d be super old like 1000+ or something (there’s actually a popular theory about the twins actually being 1000+ years old. It’s connected to Honkai Impact’s universe but idk enough about HI3 to talk about it)

And honestly, The Traveler’s age doesn’t matter. Like I said, it’s a self-insert. Which means, people can interpret it as freely as they want. It’s not important to the story progression afterall. Mhy gave us a room for different interpretation by keeping it ambiguous. As long as you don’t attack random people on the internet for thinking differently, you’re good.

Just wanted to drop by and tell you a lil something about Raiden. Idk who you are pulling for in Inazuma patch - I know you want Baal - and I just went and looked at her leaked skills/constellations in considering if I want to get Yoimiya. I don't usually do this because I don't want spoilers, but man I'm sure glad I checked.

I am kinda blown away by our lovely Shogun's constellations. Not gonna spoil too much, but just know at C4 when she uses her burst skill she ignores def by 60%. C2 increases everyone's atk% and C1 is also just pretty great to have for her kit in general. Her kit is pretty strong, and her constellations?? Amazing.

I am now convinced I need to save every last primogem I can get my hands on. She is also confirmed as a polearm user and she does pretty well with energy recharge. She's rumored at 2.1, not sure how deep in tho. Now I'm not sure if Mihoyo will change anything, but if it stays true, then the Raiden Shogun might just be the most OP character in the game.

I'm so excited for her! Almost just as much as I am for Aloy (i get her early as I'm a PS player)

no i’m - i’m pretty sure that’s just how it works. dream still owns the smp, but he himself has said wayy back at the beginning “everyone can build and go wherever they want” and that was that. it was one of his rules on the smp, it was his main problem with l’manberg. being able to build anywhere were the rules that he “had the right” to enforce. and he did, not because he was a god, but because it was his smp, his home that he claimed for his friends. wouldn’t call it a big debate, it’s really that simple.

That new Aoex chapter... I was actually hoping we were going back to the present, but I wasn't disappointed by what we got. Quite a bit of lore, a glimpse of the true forms of the demon kings, the birth of the Illuminati, and Shiro becoming a dad. There was a lot going on and I think it really helped to connect the past with the present. What was your favorite part?

MY, ANON, THIS CHAPTER WAS SO FUNNY! Like, the more I look at it, the more I think 50% of it is some sort of joke from Kato-sensei’s part??? And don’t get me wrong, I love it, but just, this was insane. 

First of all, can I just say that I truly enjoy Sensei keeping on destroying the very thought of Satan/Yuri as a healthy & romantic pairing with every chapter lately? 

Because, there is a lot of things I can agree to disagree with when it comes to opinions, but I can’t understand people praising abuse and seeing it as love, which was definitely the case between Satan and Yuri with some fans. 

Supposedly he loved her, but the moment she stops being useful to him?

He destroys her (soul?) as well in Gehenna. 

For real, I feel bad for Yuri: we know that she loved Shiro and that it was bad luck & complicated childhoods that kept them away from each other until the end and now she won’t see her sons growing up, the Order is blaming her for Satan & Lucifer’s chaos and she somehow died twice. 

And the reason she betrayed Shiro and the Order for? Dude’s blowing it in her face that “it’s her fault” and that she’s useless to him, also after he revealed he killed her foster family. So yeah, I truly despise Satan, he’s not made to be a sympathetic villain at all (one can’t relate to his issue of lacking a body powerful enough to withstand his powers) and I hope their sons will somehow avenge their mother (and their actual father, the man who raised them).

Oh but since we’re on the rather gloomy parts of the chapter, I gotta say that… 

I’m glad the events of ch1 are finally being addressed. 

Maybe we’ll find out soon about why Shiro couldn’t withstand Satan’s possession almost a year ago in the story, leading to his death: maybe Rin’s words really did hurt him, especially since we know that Yukio kinda had issues with him back then too, without mentioning Shura’s anger…?

So I don’t know, perhaps he got dispirited thinking his children despised him and then his body had grown too old, or the experiments of Section 13 were too far away in time for him to recover in ch1… I guess we’ll see about that soon. ://

Also also, I kinda got spooked by by the Toudou family:

Looks like Saburouta killed his brothers and his wife during the Blue Night (?) leaving only his daughter alive, which is somehow how she ended up following in his footsteps and working for the Illuminati. 

Pretty scarring for that girl, I wasn’t expecting that at all.

As for the Myo Dha amongst the many victims of the Blue Night…

…rip Takezou, Koneko’s dad and Mamushi’s mom (also wondering where Jin, Renzou’s oldest sister, was the whole time but I think Sensei forgot about her).

Finally, I always wondered about how Shura fared throughout the whole Blue Night incident and…

baby girl did well by hiding. 

The rest of the chapter though? Mostly funny parts, I swear to Assiah and Gehenna, haha! For example:

I gotta say I was really intrigued by whatever this Ark is supposed to be, but then…

…Dude gets out a freaking vacuum to deal with Lucifer’s remains???? Yeah, honestly that’s where I lost it LMAO!

IDK if Sensei meant to imply “that’s because he’s trash” or somehow that vacuum leads to this Ark thing, but I really lost my mind reading that scene. xDD

AND THEN…

Mephisto literally said “looks like it will be tough cleaning all this up… Well, gotta go now, you sure don’t need my help, bye~!”. Is he the laziest demon or what?! 

Finally, guys taking out axes to free Jeremiah from the forest he created to protect himself from Lucifer ended up being the final blow for me:

This whole scene with Shemihaza really struck me more as funny (with demons having their own vibes) than anything else. 

Same style but different time and space, we had Lucifer coming back to Gehenna after being defeated by the combo Shemihaza + Samael and…

Mephy being here like “omg bro, u sure u ok after I exorcised you? yeah? well that’s good news then”, my God, I couldn’t help but think that he really is the lowest of the low. xDD

Best part of the whole chapter has to be the following panel though, obviously:

Congrats Shiro, you got what you always wanted: kids to raise and a lifelong debt that is equal to losing your entire freedom. Well, aren’t you h a p p y? 

Nah, more seriously, as predictable as it was since everyone expected the “favor” Mephy requested when Shiro was a child to come into play, I still feel truly bad for him. In the end, escaping the Order is what he wished for, ever since his traumatizing childhood in Section 13, and it’s the one thing he never managed to bite back.

Unless… well, we don’t know yet what the twins will do, but if they somehow manage to defeat Mephy (who is on Assiah’s side but also possibly one hell of a villain as far as they are concerned) or even just the Order, then maybe we’ll have Shiro’s revenge finally out in the open. 

To start with, we know that Shiro didn’t raise no weapon. Yukio may not believe it’s true, Rin can have his doubts, but Shura knows the real deal when it comes to Shiro’s feelings about Yuri and her sons.

So Shiro raising sons and not weapons might eventually be what will stab every manipulator within the Order deep in the back, which would make an awesome revenge for him in that case. 

Finally about this: 

I made a post about this once, but just so it’s clear: as King of Time, clearly Samael knows that Satan will try to invade Assiah once more and him double crossing the Baals & Satan by telling Satan that he will prepare Rin as a vessel is just the best way to get Rin to face his father once he’s ready:

Which he almost is by now, in my opinion.

So yeah, Mephy is the same manipulator as ever, toying with both humans and demons, but we know he’s on Assiah’s side so, from the way I see things, he cannot be in favor of Satan showing up every now and then, raising havoc.

On the other hand, Mephy toying with Shiro and the Okumura twins (amongst others) is precisely why he could make a very fine big bad that the twins have to confront (both for themselves but also for Shiro’s sake), once Satan and Lucifer are out of the way. Ahhh, we shall see.

TL;DR a w e s o m e chapter, as always lately! Some difficult and gloomy parts, some awful moments, some funny ones and Mephy being the same old trickster he’s fated to be: what else could we ask for?

I hope you enjoyed it too, Anon! I don’t think the present time is coming back that quickly (in at least two or three chapters maybe?), but for now I’m still enjoying the flashbacks, so it’s all fine with me. :))

ok so it's not that I think they are mediocre but rather that I know how much being from a big company can determinate your success, onces will go on and on about how much jyp was broke before them and how sixteen had a low viewership rate and how jyp was almost "out" of the big3 (a lie bc if that was truly the case then yg wouldnt be considered big3 rn, big3 is about how much influence and power you have on media yes it's related to how rich the company is but not all that matters when we all know that's not even being considered by anyone lmao) but at the end of the day no matter what they were still under big3?? the amount of money they had to even START a show about the group and then to film the like ooh ahh mv was huge man, onces make it seem like they had 10 dollars and a dream when that was definitely not the case, I know I seem bitter about this but bc I'm a fan of a group who was truly in that situation it just seems so fake and attention seeking?? yall know how much an mv like like ohh ahh and cheer up cost?? yall know how much producers and outfits and hair and makeup and studio and everything else costs?? jyp was always powerful and just bc they were in a bad time and bc they got more rich after twice it doesnt mean they were # broke before them, of course luck is a factor in any situation but let's be honest, do you think if a company was that broke and if twice had done that badly in their debut an mv like cheer up would even exist?? it's expensive y'all

also about the mediocre thing: I dont think they are mediocre but rather that no twice track has made me fall in love with them, I do like some songs but that's it, I feel like after their cheer up promotions jyp was very smart and played all the right moves and got them even bigger, they are not mediocre but we all know jyp has a fucked up ear that has rejected THE iu and THE yuju which is now considered top3 best vocalists of the 3rd generation (along with eunji from apink and wendy from rv) and I dont think they have been necessarily giving them the songs that fit their voices the best, some of them are able to adapt better (nayeon) and some are not (ie: momo voice was too deep for some of her parts in more and more), at the end of the day it still sounds nice if you're not listening to the live locals, their choreography is okay but is more focused on going viral than anything lmao, it's not bad but you can definitely see the comeback their team opened their email box and found out about all the emails about onces having to defend themselves bc twice had easy choreographies and SOME members were still not doing okay vocally and then decided to turn up their difficultly level to catch up with the current trend among ggs at the time ON THE TOP OF making them a token gg (along bp) to white gays listen and like bc they werent cute like that anymore and were doing hard choreographies so they were # not like the other ggs and this only expanded twice fan numbers in western countries (I also think that the bigger a group is the more their fans get obsessed with them and stop caring about their song quality and only listen to them bc they're a fan not bc they truly enjoy the music anymore you know??
