who are your favourite blackbutler characters?
Hey Anon !
Ah, well, pretty much all the kids, y'know ? Except real!Ciel, because he's evil, but otherwise our!Ciel, Liz, Soma, Ed, Sieglinde and Finny, I care about a great deal. :)
I also love Tanaka, Frances and Vincent as characters because they carry a lot of the plot's mystery and I'm still reading to hopefully get my answers one day. Finally, kudos to Diedrich and Cheslock as secondary characters who are definitely worth their hype.
I used to be a pretty big fan of UT back when I started the series, because the guy is absolutely dashing despite his dirty long hair and terrible nails, but now that I'm 30, all I see when I look at him is how toxic his grief is and how much he needs a damn therapy. But I guess I still care about finding out what he knows, because he carries a good chunk of the plot too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
TL;DR I'm due for a reread, but I definitely categorize Kuroshitsuji as a tale of revenge cycle and generational trauma so I'm here for the kids : hopefully some adults will help protect and guide them before they get fucked up for good.
I hope it answers your question, have a good day Anon !

Are you watching the anime of Weston arc?
Hey Anon ! Not yet, but I just might later if the hype on my dash is high enough. ;)
Just kidding, I may not be a fan of the animated versions of Kuroshitsuji, but the Weston arc is one of my favorite arcs, so I'm both tempted and terrified, haha.
I miss the good old days, when the pace was better. Mostly I miss the funny vibes and seeing Ciel interacting with people close to his age. That's partly why I loved the Weston arc so much : it had everything and everyone, minus Sieglinde who would be introduced later.
Also it conveyed a pretty interesting world building idea which is that maybe Weston college’s board is related to some sort of dark society, half brainwashing well-born young men who might one day have an important position in politics and I dig the plot implication of that. :D

I'm actually wondering if the anime might give us more hints or answers on that one part and I might just watch to check it out... :)
I hope it answers your question, have a good day Anon !

hello i hope you are well!
have you seen the newest art yana posted where sebastian is cutting a white lilium flower?
throughout the manga and other artworks, we have seen this flower associated with the undertaker so sebastian cutting this flower doesn’t seem to be saying anything good for him. i mean it’s obvious, being the main character, sebastian would obviously prevail in a future final battle but still it is worrisome 🥲
i don’t think we’ll get to that point any soon seeing that a mini arc of flashbacks is currently ongoing but i just hope, after we get his backstory, the undertaker will not be killed (if he can be killed) 😢😢😢😢😢😢
thank you for your reply in advance 😊
Hey Anon ! Sorry for the slight delay, I'm alright but very busy. :)) I hope you're okay too !
So I'm assuming you're talking about the cover of the new Gfantasy volume ?
Tumblr media
I'm notoriously bad at flower recognition and language, so I can't say I noticed it being associated with UT specifically, but I'll take your word for it. xD
That being said, it's not particularly surprising, if this flower is supposed to "represent" UT in some ways. After all, the twins are in a chess game like conflict and Seb and UT are a main asset to each of their side, so an upcoming confrontation between the two is likely.
Additionally, the story does call for the Bizarre Dolls project led by UT to fail, so Seb cutting "UT's flower" makes sense on all accounts.
Lastly, I wouldn't worry about UT being killed or disappearing from the story, even if his BD project fails: after all, UT and Seb are enemies on another level, which is when it comes to our!Ciel's soul.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no way UT favors real!Ciel over our!Ciel. Currently real!Ciel needs him more, since he's still dependent on blood transfusions amongst other things, but UT also doesn't want Seb to eat Ciel's soul :
Tumblr media
UT momentarily tolerates Seb's presence because, until our!Ciel figures out who killed their parents, Seb acts as his shield and is bound not to touch his soul. So, against a foe like Queen Victoria whom UT is also against, Seb is useful. But UT and Seb are still enemies when it comes to the contract with our!Ciel and UT will probably remain important to the story until we get to that point.
So don't worry, we haven't seen the last of UT. ;) And don't immediately expect that, because Seb is the main character, he'll eventually reach his goal (eating Ciel's soul). I for one am not that sure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope I answered your question ! Have a nice day, Anon. :))

i think the reason people mischaracterize toph as excessively violent or as callous & unfeeling is that they don't get what the show was trying to do with the concept of neutral jing. yes, toph is often the first person to jump into action when battle's involved and the last person to speak up when there's a serious emotional issue or discussion to be had, but that's because her main skill is listening & observation. her seismic sense means she can sense a physical threat earlier than other people, but when it comes to emotional issues or ethical dilemmas she wants to wait until she's heard the full story. she's not first to violence because she's aggressive, it's because she's observant. she's not last to speak up because she doesn't care, it's because she's listening and waiting for the right moment to jump in. she's also fiercely independent (as a rebellion against her parents), and she offers others the same courtesy. she doesn't want people in her business telling her how to live her life so she won't do that to you.
toph's arc is about learning she doesn't have to be so independent, that she can accept help from others and be part of a team. but it's not that she starts out not caring about other people. it's that her idea of respect is shaped by what she wishes was offered to her. she learns you can accept help & care from others and that still means they respect you and see you as a full person.
listening and observing, waiting for the right moment to act, isn't cold or callous or violent. it just means that if you aren't paying attention, the only time you'll notice her is when she leaps into action or gives her blunt opinion, and you'll miss the thoughtful consideration that got her there

I honestly have never been able to relate or even understand people who are attracted to Sebastian? Like, those who actually love him and thirst after him. I have been following kuro since I was Ciel's age, now I'm well into my mid twenties and although I do find him graceful and handsome in some instances, I have always felt like he was such a tryhard, such a shameless poser who relishes in the attention of measly humans lmao. His narcissism can be entertaining but also absolutely insufferable at the same time.
Frances is absolutely right about him and Ciel, that child is stronger than me because by god I wouldn't be able to tolerate his ass every single day.

I love seeing people talk about how this arc is like Harry Potter when a lot of it is just. How schools are in the UK. I was a prefect and I was also in a house, and we also had a cricket tournament that people trained for.
This is just. English behaviour. Not Harry Potter.

How beautiful is two women who were vitcims of the exploitation of women bodies and patriarchy, living together and raising a child that also were stripped of a family because of this violent system... i can't man, it's literally one of the most touching and beautiful relationships in gntm 😭💞💞

sorachi sticking to his message of found family instead of having canonically one sided romances with no mutual development or entirely platonic ones randomly getting married for the sake of a hetero nuclear family ending with dumb clone children is great actually. there is so much one can criticize about the final arc but gintama ending with yorozuya was always the obvious conclusion for the series that puts emphasis on the importance of relationships regardless of blood ties

I read somewhere that people were confused about the flaming person rising from the school in the OP and idk I took it as a metaphor for corruption? Like, it’s been a hot minute since I read the arc but isn’t the arc about how the environment festered in the school creates a pressure for tradition and righteousness so intense that this ends up with the golden children of the houses justifying murder?
I mean you could easily argue that the murder itself was a spur of the moment thing I guess, but the p4 very much tried to justify it with protecting the reputation of Weston. The very reason they don’t even REPORT Arden’s body and try to pretend he is still alive is because they are trying to protect the school’s traditions. It’s what allows the undertaker to take control of the head master’s spot - and with that the absolute power that these traditions give that role - in the first place. The P4 aren’t even really villains. You can tell the story isn’t trying to frame them as such, as they are shown trying their best even as they end up getting swept up in a cult and arc later. It’s the system, this harping on conservative traditions and strict power structures that produce evil. That’s the point. There are corpses running about - literally rotting the place from the inside out - because nobody questions those in power. Students literally throw stones at others from other houses.
The system is corrupt.
And well the fire person could very much symbolise what this kind of corrupt system breeds..destruction. Justifying murder. Hell, it would even fit Black butler specifically, considering fire is directly tied to Ciel’s tragedy and that in turn was most likely due to the phantom hives making some powerful enemies (most likely from the nobility) due to their activities as the queen’s watchdogs. Corruption leads to fire in black butler. If you want to argue that the phantomhives themselves are corrupt (they literally have a group called the noblemen of evil if I recall right) or the people who caused the fire were the corrupt ones or the system itself allowing for such an assassination attempt can be argued either way in my opinion. Wonder what that says about the circus incident though…
Anyway yeah I think the person in flames is a metaphor for the corruption of Weston college.
