sudden motivation go!!! here's a bunch of pikmin headcanons or whatever you can call these. they are very random and i am not sorry about that

-hocotatians are the closest living relative of humans! they inherit our natural hair color and our diet, mainly because Hocotate was the first planet humans went to after The Incident™

-the most DISTANT relative of humans would be ocobians. they needed lots of adaptations to their vastly different planet, and needed to abandon most of our traits to survive. i like to think they can echolocate and hold their breath longer, and maybe have noticeable webs between their fingers :)

-giyans are the most prone to allergies! i like to think Shepherd is allergic herself but just sneezes very quietly and takes lots of allergy medicine. she refuses to get rid of oatchi, even if it will kill her

-koppaites are cold-blooded! they are also oviparous, and their eggs are fairly small. think turtle eggs, if that makes any sense.

-ohrians lack the part of their brain that feels love, sort of like snakes. they're still capable of it, but it's significantly harder for them to make relationships with people, platonic or romantic. this is totally not an excuse as to why dingo is a prick and why yonny doesn't understand the concept of something being unethical. hey don't look at me like that

-nijo is the smallest planet out of all the planets, but that doesn't really affect its inhabitants, since it's mostly made up of land with lots of rivers all over the place, sort of like if canada was a planet. as a drawback they have a shitty economy and their leader sucks.

-i WOULD say that colored hair is a natural feature among starfolk (save for hocotatians) but i have no good logical explanation for that so. idk.

If anything, i expected more “awkwardness” than we got, and not because they aren’t comfortable with each other but because of the filming. It’s a weird experience to be on camera like that. Sure they’re used to it but at that point it had been a long time since they filmed something like that, and they never did it just the two of them before. Plus them both being kinda sick, it wasn’t ideal.

Despite that though I think it was super clear how close they are and they’re really giving old married couple who know everything about each other and are used to dealing with each other’s quirks and habits, mixed with goofy best friends. Which honestly, if they are in fact a couple and have been for a long time, that dynamic makes a lot more sense than them being all lovey dovey or whatever some expect. Not that I would expect them to show anything overly romantic in a show anyway because duh, but most couples who have been together for years are a lot like them. Obviously their situation is quite unique, and I’m not even saying I believe they’re comparable to any conventional relationships, but still.

Also, as an Audhd’er it often saddens me to see people misunderstand Jungkook. I can’t diagnose him with anything ofc, but his brain seems to work similar to mine in a lot of ways. And Jimin seems to understand how he functions. Of course he’s gonna still be annoyed with him sometimes, that’s human, and they clearly have a dynamic where they’re very okay with joke roasting each other and teasing and just laugh it off. But at their core it’s super clear that they have a deep understanding of each other and accept each other the way they are. It’s beautiful to see. People being offended for Jimin because of how Jungkook expresses himself or how he appears in certain situations always rubbed me the wrong way. @ those people: Jimin gets him and loves him, you don’t, shut up.

And the other way around, well anyone hating on Jimin for anything in that show or any other time he’s around Jungkook can choke. Nothing they ever said about him makes sense. So I won’t even get into it lol

It’s funny how jimin saying he had to push for the show to happen or it wouldn’t could be taken so differently than how I see it. To me it’s the same as when Jimin said Jungkook wouldn’t have travelled around if he didn’t come, or when hobi and namjoon said Jungkook doesn’t like going places but Jimin always drags him along, in BV. Seems like Jimin knows some things that are easy for him might be more difficult for Jungkook. And he doesn’t seem to mind taking the leading role when it comes to these things. It seems to work out perfectly for them. If Jungkook is anything like me, he’d just be happy these types of bigger plans are being set up without him having to take charge himself. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t love spending time with Jimin lol those are two very different things.

I feel it's funny for people to say that jikook were awkward when you have them sit on a sofa holding hands right at the start. I'm lowkey convinced the awkwardness was cause jungkook had to reel himself back a bit for the cameras. he should share whatever he's comfortable sharing with us and people have no right to demand more. idk if people expect him to for example say how much he missed jimin and how sad he was without him etc. this could be what he tells jimin in private. he doesn't have to tell us this cause it's none of our business frankly.

jikook totally understand each other and are in tune with each other's emotions and you can tell when for example jungkook was upset after kayaking, jimin was speaking to him in a way that helped him get over it and not only that but jungkook was receptive to that which is lovely to see. atp they know each other well enough and how they treat each other is for the other's sake not to make fans happy or show fans what they want to see.

I also think if we think back to their Japan trip in 2017 that was organised by jungkook so it's not like he doesn't want to travel with jimin or anything like that. but going to the company and getting the travel show rolling is a lot different to that and jimin was happy to take it upon himself to start the process of the show so I don't see what anyone's issue can be. jungkook probably appreciated that loads and he was so enthusiastic about it, I think that will be even clearer in future interviews they did where they talk about where to go but even him saying they should do this until they're 50 shows it's not a chore to him and that he really enjoys it.

Ahhh, I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, but I'm curious to know what changed Hajime/Izuru's mind in the universe your art takes place in? Like, what made him go from not caring about anything because everything was boring and meaningless, to trying to enjoy life?

I don't really remember what it was in the anime, but it was probably hope. And like, that makes sense if you think about it, considering that's the definition of hope, but hope doesn't usually just happen like that, you know? Especially not to someone who probably had never felt it since the whole Ultimate Hope thing (ironically). In my mind, it's hard to imagine what it could have been, considering nothing ever phased him. I know that whatever gave him hope doesn't have to be that deep, because that's how it is sometimes, but I was wondering what you think it could have been (or more importantly, what you consider it to be in your art)!

Also, this is kinda unrelated, but I find it so cool how much your art makes me really think about the characters. It's amazing how you're able to really see how you've fleshed out the characters through you art, and honestly, you are probably one of my favourite artists because of it.

But anyway, sorry about this long and random rant 😭 Idk why I spend my time analyzing the character and point of view of fictional characters, but I guess sometimes the ADHD brain goes brrrrrr.

depends on the universe! But I'll assume you mean my general post-game stuff.

I've said it somewhere before so if it's old bread to you bear with me, but basically, it was a genuine dedication to face the big horrible awful feelings that come with trauma and life in general, and also the brain boost of getting to skip the slow growing part even for just a while.

My idea is that Izuru and Hajime are not two separate identities, rather, an amnesiac and horribly traumatized boy was given a moniker he didn't care to accept or deny. It's not like he had any other name to go by. That was Izuru Kamukura.

The brain has these neural pathways of how it responds to things, and his all got burnt out so he could respond with an appropriate talent each time. As a very simplified example, someone might respon to threat with the Flight response, because it worked in a dire situation and the brain decided "that saved us, this is how we will respond from now on".

Hajime, in the game, gets a sudden bump out of those pathways, enabling him to feel things properly and be fully present in his life. Thematically, the big Super Sayian moment is him deciding to not fall into old, but true and tried, brain patterns, and instead taking on the horrific experience of being human, with all the messy Emotions and Failures that comes with it.

When he wakes up from the game, he still struggles, but the artificial boost from his old thinking as well as a conscious, strenuous, painful effort to not repress himself anymore but instead face the things that he did and were done to him, make him able to carve himself into a new Him.

Not the same, in the sense that WHO could say they're the same as they were before a simulated murder game that revealed that you were a killing machine terrorist and so were your friends. But the same as in, he's Hajime Hinata and he decides what exactly that means. To want is an emotion, and he wants to become someone who can experience life fully, and chasing that single feeling of Want opens up the doors to everything else. You might've heard this before but "before you change, you have to want to change".

So in short. What enabled him to get Hopeful so to speak was the combination of a brain kick (you could call that a metaphor for outside help), and a concrete decision to try to do the difficult but right thing. Sounds kind of boring maybe, but everything else comes later - like his interest and care for his friends, an enjoyment of philosophy and the arts, a pleasure from being useful and helpful, a serenity from accepting things as they are, and a thrill that comes with strong genuine emotion (from my own life, sometimes a single moment of !!!! can carry you on for months).

Yes the whole thing is a metaphor for getting better with mental health stuff. It's personal to me okay 😂

(also I like the idea from Miggys fic that his human connections override the apathy and distance so as long as he's around the people he loves he can hold onto what keeps him going)

I love thinking about and building on characters too! Spending tons of time inspecting them like a specimen 🤝 people (and therefore characters) are very interesting to me so I just like rolling them around my brain. Thank you for your interest and kind words!

Why I Headcanon Waylon Park as a Trans Guy?

it came to me in a dream.

ok but jokes aside (well not entirely it DID actually originate because of a dream i had getting interrupted by a nonexistent video essay on the topic... dreams are weird man), i do want to try talking about my reasoning for this (although it's totally legit to hc a character as trans purely because you want to!! thats totally based also lol), because maybe it'd be interesting to hear the lens through which i saw this game? idk lol but i'm doing it anyway... below the cut in case it gets long

Ok immediate prefaces, A: i doubt this was actually the intended at all and i'm not trying to say it's canon, just saying why i read it that way :3 and B: this will probably be a rambling mess and I apologize, I'll try to make it somewhat make sense.

I guess I'll start with: a whole major thing of Outlast, is fighting to tear down this large corporation, that is like. the embodiment of shitty systems that exploit people (this post by bry mentions that general topic, although more focused on miles' angle). It's worth noting because, to me at least, fighting these sorts of systems really aligns with a lot of queer folks (and basically any group that gets fucked over by the system, which is most of them loll). There's like, this whole thing of Waylon seemingly fitting that image of the ideal typical man, with the wife and kids and a job, but he has to risk all of that to do what he feels is the right thing.

(Oh yeah, I guess quick tangent on that note. Yes I know in canon we literally see his dick lmao and also we know he has kids, which you might think would deter my hc here. but A: i already said ik it's probably not canon, i can still read into it regardless. B: intersex ppl exist. C: phalloplasty and other similar procedures exist. D: ppl can have kids in non-traditional way. so im prob not gonna cover that element of it more)

My brain hasn't been able to help but interpret his whole journey in a queer way, because i played it as a teenager still in the throes of understanding my identity and place in the world, so in the end this might not even make sense to anyone else. But, I'm trying to explain, so I'll continue to regardless.

I kind of saw it as Waylon hiding in the protection of an "ideal" life. On the surface he looks like he's in that American ideal family, but it's a subversion. He's only one of them because they think he is. Because he doesn't step out of line. Unlike Miles, who's more outspoken about issues, who seemingly has no one around him. He's treated as part of this "ideal" world, while working in the background to try and stop the exploitation and immoral acts going on.

When he's caught, when he's seen as something more complicated than first imagined, he's cast out. Lumped in with the same people being exploited by Murkoff already. He isn't "human" to them anymore. He's something else. Something they don't like.

Although the violence brought upon him is by the variants, it is still in part Murkoff's doing, since they fucked these people up via these experiments to a point of heightened violence and just generally ruining their lives more than they already had been by whatever they had done prior. That being said, they are still responsible for their own actions.

the stuff with Eddie is definitely the part that most resonated with me through this lens. I remember first playing it, and he scared me the most, for a lot of reasons. One of which being what he represented. He's The Groom. He wants someone to be his Bride, and you're it, even if you don't want that. As someone who's aroace AND already knew at that point that i wasn't a girl, this guy felt like a human embodiment of the pressures to fit what was expected of you. That one day, you'll be married and have kids. If you don't, then you're worthless.

But it's interesting especially, because Waylon IS married. He has kids already. He has that family. The difference is, in this hypothetical trans lens, he's not "really" in a traditional family. He's "pretending", as some might see it, because he's not "really one of them". Being Eddie's Bride is the situation that would've been expected of him, but he said "fuck that", and did his own thing.

Plus, like, with Eddie in particular, you will NEVER be what he wants. He will try to make his perfect bride, but you'll never be it. Even before Mount Massive, no one was what he wanted, judging by all the people he killed. He's a broken man desiring something but never liking his options.

Also just fucking. these lines from eddie make me lose my mind.

That part of you the world sees, they think it's perfect. As God intended. Even these idiots and lunatics see it. There's something special about you. On the surface. But when they look deeper, when anybody with eyes to see looks at what you truly are. That's why they don't trust you. You're not what you're meant to be. Not yet. This place can see into your mind. And the things you've done. Oh, they're a sin, darling.

like HELLO??

I know it's probably just Eddie rambling but it felt like he reached through the screen and grabbed me by the throat like.

Anyway in actual relation to my point. uh. Remember the thing I said about Waylon being a "fake" typical family? This kind of relates to that. Like, on the surface, he seems like he's got this perfect typical American family, he's "as God intended" (which. bro. i swear that exact phrase has been used against trans people so many times). But if you look closer, you'll realize there's more to it than that. Also like, going from the "as God intended" line to the thing about the things he's done being a sin, like hmmm. Maybe I'm reading into that too much, considering we know Eddie wants to make you into his Bride, so of course he's gonna think stuff like that. But still. It's a bit interesting to me.

Plus, it's interesting how, despite having a wife and kids, he's still more... feminized, I guess, than any other characters in this game. Both in the game itself, and within the fandom. Like, not just Eddie literally calling him a woman and trying to make him his bride, but also stuff like a variant near the beginning calling him a "pretty flower" before threatening him, Andrew (one of the staff) licking his face at the beginning of the game... A lot of violence and sexual-ish acts that are often directed at women in media. Even Frank, who I don't have as much to say about here, has some weirdly sexual undertones to his whole cannibalism thing.

This isn't entirely related but one part of the game that still sticks with me but I don't see mentioned as much, is near the beginning. Those guys stabbing the dead staff member. One of them remarks that "there are no observers here" and "do you think you're different? Something special?", which I think helps cement the whole idea that he's treated the same as the rest of people being exploited by Murkoff now. There's no turning back to that "ideal" life you were hiding in before. Hell, that's definitely reinforced more at the end of the game, when you choose to publish your footage, knowing Murkoff will come after you for it, and probably ruin your life. Maybe there's more interesting things to glean from that, but i thought they were interesting lines nonetheless.

anyway, overall I know this is probably just the ramblings of a trans/generally queer person reading WAY too much into a character that I happened to resonate with when i played the game, but i thought maybe it would be interesting for others to understand what would lead me to this conclusion? Anyway, that's all i've got on the subject right now, so I hope it was at least a little interesting.

Domestic Abuse Ghost Possession

What Happened?

Jesus. Okay. SO green lantern: mosaic is already a really weird comic. The creator (who we don't talk abt and also was in prison until a couple of years ago) literally said (paraphrase) "Mosaic is the book I write when I get confused writing my other books". Like bro. Anyways it follows John Stewart (Green Lantern) as he tries to establish a peaceful society between a bunch of species (humans included) taken from their homeworlds and forced to coexist on this plant. Standard comic plot. NORMAL, even. Or so you'd think.

It's revealed that John is being possessed a times (blacking out) by the ghost of Old Timer, an evil Guardian (so like a smurf looking alien) who brought all the people to the mosaic in the first place. Plot-wise this still makes sense, GL: Mosaic is a spin off and this whole plot was kind of established in the main comic. It makes sense.

AND THEN YOU GET ISSUE NO. 3. John is inexplicably in a relationship with this woman Rose. This happens completely off panel and without explanation (although they did have some chemistry in the main GL title, it was a very complicated dynamic and there was even a joke about them NOT being in a relationship) [the joke was that rose's town was super scandalized bc they thought she was dating John (because aaaaghhhhh interracial relationship or whatever [this is like 1992] and shes from rural West Virgina and was all like no guys its not LIKE that (but like it actually wasnt)) so idk that was a thing that happened

But ANYWAYS in Mosaic #3 John and Rose are dating for some reason???? And then he picks her up and flies up and then drops her and laughs as she screams and falls. He also kicks her around and like beats her up in front of her son while she pleads with him to stop. So VERY much domestic abuse 👍love some absolutely insane fucking mischaracterization what the actual hell. Also he keeps using weird nicknames like calling her Rosie and himself Johhny or Daddy while possessed(?) SO I don't fucking know what that was the fuck

Anyways it's then revealed that this behavior was because of the GHOST! who could have thunk? However instead of the ghost CANONICALLY inside his head that was literally possessing him THE ISSUE BEFORE, turns out it was SINESTRO'S GHOST! how the fuck did he get in johns head you may ask? I could not tell you! He's just there! At this point I'm wondering what the actual fuck is going on and also how many ghosts are possessing John Stewart. Like HONESTLY. I've either entirely lost the plot by now or am just in shock over what is happening. Likely both.

Anyways John goes in his brain to fight the Sinestro ghost (who like ties him up with his tongue and calls him boy (and Sinestro daddy this time) and all sorts of insanely weird awful stuff) And then his girlfriend (who he ISNT DATING) forgives him because "it was the ghost". Absolutely incomprehensible arc. This happened in ONE ISSUE of this comic. The first ghost is not mentioned at all during this story

Also the worst thing abt this whole ordeal is that this is a spin off of an arc in the main GL title which was actually REALLY FUCKING GOOD. like it was great, I loved it. And yet somehow the author (may he die gruesomely) managed to forget what HE HIMSELF WROTE and all knowledge of characterization and turn his hero into a horribly mischaracterized domestic abuser in a plot thay makes no sense.also there was def some racist wack ass shit going on with this fr. The whole comic is honestly an ego trip for the writer it makes no fucking sense and every letter page is just two pages of him talking directly to the readers and telling them how smart he is. This is issue 3 and is as far as i got. Listen to me and do not read this comic

The Trainee ep3 Initial reaction

Bad news I only have screen shots of part 4 but considering how S L O W the show is no big loss.

Let’s chat a little before the photo review. I like that Jane isn’t auto in love with Ryan it’s like they are slowly getting on the same frequency. I don’t think he was a bad boss in any of the previous eps either. Yes. He’s busy. Pressed like a panini. It’s very sweet. Ryan is confused as to why things are going so well but I think it’s because Jane is getting slowly attuned to him. Like they were made to be a pair. It’s a beautiful slow dance. But it is slow. I’m not bored it’s just not a ton to speculate on. We all saw the episode? It’s mostly Meta Content about production which is interesting. I enjoyed Pie’s friendships and her struggles. But as it comes to Ryan and Jane the biggest indicator of affection is the Ryan game they are playing. I adored the saving private ryan refs very cute and unexpected. I really hope romance wise things get going soon anywhere. I really like prop guy but I get hella annoyed with the str8 couple. But I assume I’m supposed to. I’ll keep watching but I’ll am a little cool towards things if that makes sense. It’s fun but… give me something to think about.

Photo review

I watched pt 1-3 on my tv so don’t have any snaps but our girl is 100% correct. Jane is intimidating. He doesn’t have time to make things easy for Ryan and Pie. The difference is Ryan wants to know Why Jane is the way he is and try to assist in making him relaxed. Ryan is happiness when Jane has his peaks of soft. But Pie respects Jane puts him on a pedestal of what she wants to be. She doesn’t see him as a human. More of a goal she wants to be. Also Off Jumpol is 50/10 on the sexy scale.

Okay so my dad likes to tell me when I start a new job, “you aren’t doing it right if you aren’t crying in the bathroom and in the bed after work questioning why you thought you could do the job in the first place” I find this applies to switching teams or any new work situation. No one trusts you and they really shouldn’t you are new and will make mistakes. However if they don’t depend on your or make you feel strong the pressure builds and builds. It’s hard you feel so defeated. You finally get chance to break out of the minmal space of being new or the intern and things turn to flames then find out no one expected you to do good anyways. Eventually you’ll find a team member who will push you into chances then you’ll find your niche. I had to be on a team with a new member to understand what was going on with this. I think… it’s easy when you are new to blame yourself. It’s everyone’s duty to help the new person feel part of the team and train them up. Yes they are going to mess up but I find that’s easier when they think of me as someone who will help them not make mistakes next time.

But on an ADHD human who struggles to get medication I have to go through the Why am I like this? Judging others then fucking up because of my brain and it is horrible but… you work in a team. I hope Pie realizes that.

I love these brother sister in the neurodivergent buddy coded vibes we have going on here in my opinion. I feel like Pie is very ADHD masking medicated but I’m bias. She doesn’t understand humans and can’t care about things beyond her special interests. Ryan is also very much hiding in his head. Pie is jealous of Ryan but I think she likes him in his own newbie ways. He’s hard not to love. Also their shirts.

Jane wants to care for Ryan and keep him around. I adore these shoe themes even if the shoes are weirdly matching???? Am I crazy? Didn’t get a good shot but I think black white Nikes. Jane is being slowly boiled in Ryan’s actions to show Jane is a person who can trust Ryan.

He’s impressed Ryan is thinking of him outside of work. I’m triggered cause now I wanna go watch saving private Ryan again. However I think I’ll settle for Ghost Of You by my chemical romance.

I adore Ryan’s relationship with Ink. I love the lighting and the set dressing of the shop crowded but not a home the home for Ryan is the people. What they can offer with their hands and time.

Day whatever this of this fiasco and here's where I am with everything: It makes no sense. No sense. And since the human brain wants to make sense of things I have to conclude one of these things to be true:

1- L actually think he likes or maybe even loves A and is willing to risk his career for her. Crazy, stupid love? Anything else makes N look like sh*t quite frankly. We *think* something happened between L & N in Brazil but he still launches his young lover? Or we *think* he really loves N but he can't ditch the casual gf and be single so they can figure things out?

2-It's casual with A and has always been. L was trying to rebrand himself with a bad boy image and separate himself from N but it backfired and now he's committed to it. Still doesn't account for any feelings for N or for the fact A is traveling with him. You want a bad boy image? Date a few different girls. Let the paps see you snoggin a hottie in a café or at the club. Don't say you want to be a Ken to N's Barbie, smh.

3-L & N have a sexual and romantic connection but don't want to date and prefer to stay friends. In this case, I'm afraid N has to be seen as complicit in leading us astray, too. Granted she gets a break because didn't launch a bf in our faces at the premiere but together, they were playin' us for views.

4-One of them wants to be together but the other does not. We kind of all thought that L is the one totally in love with N and she has reservations or even someone else but how N was looking at L by the end of the tour defies that logic...

5-And now for my fave delulu theory: N is pregnant by L and they have to hide it so as not to jeopardize future contracts including her new movie. He's taking the heat off by distracting us with A who is just a friend following him around. (Tbh Idk how he hasn't gotten N pregnant by now just from the way he looks at her)

But back to reality (not a fun place to be): if he's going to be gallivanting across the world with his gf, on the downlow or not, why do we care? Why are we giving him attention for walking around in suits with nothing under them and standing there looking vacuous? A will be with him because she supports this mindless mission. When he decides either be OUTWARDLY repentant for how he affected S3 or do something interesting as an actual actor, maybe (maybe) that's when we should be interested in what he does again?

Thoughts, please?

the main campaign of just roll with it is riptide, a pirate campaign dmed by grizzly set in the world of mana, where the planet is nearly all water save for some scattered islands. the characters are gillion tidestrider, a triton paladin/sorcerer played by charlie slimecicle, chip, a human rogue played by bizly and jay ferin, a human ranger played by condifiction. there's a playlist with all the episodes on so it's pretty simple :)

i have found that my irl friends who have never watched dnd podcasts before have struggled to get past the first arc, around the ep11-14 mark, but i see from a peek at your bio that you're a critical role fan so you'll probably have no issue :) the earlier episodes are slower to start but they're still great! the quality does improve a lot as time goes, naturally.

there's also two prequel episodes for riptide which you don't need to watch, but they're worth noting if you want to go back to them after you catch up like i did, or you could watch them before if you want a bit of extra lore context.

that's probably all the information you need to get started, but i am going to give you some more information about the patreon campaigns as well - you don't have to pay attention to all this if you want to just keep it simple! i just feel like giving a full beginner's guide for no reason lmao

for all three of the campaigns i'm about to talk about, it is $5 a month - obviously not asking you to just jump right in and give them money but i do very highly recommend it if you find you enjoy this podcast!! it's a fairly low cost for a lot of great quality content.

prime defenders is the main patreon campaign, and it's a mutants and masterminds superhero campaign dmed by bizly. the characters are teenaged boys with superpowers, enlisted to help defend the world of prime. charlie plays william wisp, who has ghost powers, grizzly plays dakota cole, who has super strength and does martial arts, and condi plays vyncent sol, who's from another world and has people living inside his brain? i don't really know how to explain that one uhhh the first five episodes are available for free - won't link each because it'll clog up the post but here's the first one. decent place to start if you're considering getting the patreon, although similarly to riptide the beginning episodes are a little slower as they start around the same time.

this one i'd personally recommend watching after you finish the other campaigns, simply because it's the longest of the patreon campaigns, but it is very great! <33 it also has two prequel episodes which are for free - similarly not required watching but good fun nonetheless!

apotheosis is a fifteen episode-long mini-campaign where the players go around and kill all the gods, dmed by condi. peter sqloint is a human possessed by an archangel played by charlie, rumi is a changeling bard/warlock who is chasing visions played by grizzly and thanatos is a very intense and murderous war forged played by bizly. first episode is available for free, and it is essentially the compiled session zeroes of their individual characters.

this campaign is, in my personal opinion, the best place to start for patreon because of the shorter length and how easy and quick it is to get into. if this was not a patreon campaign i would recommend this as the best place to start jrwi, honestly, because the shorter length means everything's more packed in and faster-paced and it helps you get into the swing of things and get the satisfaction of watching through all of it, while also showcasing the potential of the episodes to come later in the longer campaigns.

blood in the bayou is a four episode-long call of cthulhu campaign set in galloway, louisiana in the 1980s, dmed by charlie, where three old friends reunite and discover their hometown's local horrors. kian stone, a big city rockstar, is played grizzly, timothy rand, a stoner still living with his parents, is played by bizly, and rolan deep, a lawyer, is played by condi. it is audio-only and has higher quality sound design and an original soundtrack. pretty different for the other campaigns but so well-made. good place to start with patreon as well! the first episode is available for free too <3

I am experimenting with a lot of things art-wise to get my groove on. I've bean reading a bunch. I've been lifting weights which is turns out is super fun and I should've started ages ago. Like I didn't believe the gym could be fun, I thought people were just faking it but it turns out like. It's just self expression like any other activity. And I love to see number go up. And I love making that face you do when you're lifting heavy weights you know the one? And grunting. It's very freeing to just be able to do that. Like all my life I've been bogged down by thinking the gym is for assholes and that I should try to do the Normal Sports that I honestly fucking hate. I hate ball sports. I don't understand swimming as a sport you're trapped doing laps in that freaking pool it's the most boring sport of all time. Sure I liked thinking about nothing and swimming but laps in a pool?? Devil invention. Running is kinda the same although you can run interesting places and aren't trapped in a blue rectangle. Just do the sport you actually want to do. Go to a fight club idk. Learn to kickbox. Punch some stuff. Do push ups, I love doing push ups.

What else? I've been walking my dog for 2hours every day late in the afternoon and getting to hang with his friends at the dog park. He isn't very friendly but he's also not aggressive so it's mostly chill. He's made a friend named Draco Malfoy (she made sure to tell me it was her kid daughter's idea) and everyone calls my dog Sirius Black cause he's got black fur and is, and this is the technical term, giant. Kind of annoying that Harry Potter is still the main thing people go to to describe him. Except for one security guard who I thought was gonna say he looks like Sirius but then said he looks like Sam from Twilight. This was an awesome day

I've been trying to sew and mend my clothes. I replaced the buckle in my bag cause it was broken and I feel kind of amazing about it.

I've been writing some stuff. All unfinished yet. I want to see if I can finish the short story I've been trying to work on besides the Les Mis scripts. I have trouble finishing things I write, which is a problem that, if AO3 is any indication, is probably the world's most common roadblock in writing.

Went to the satanic themed goth club on good friday, that was so fun. We had a blast. Place was PACKED. All goths have the same sense of humor.

Honestly that is such a cool idea!!!!

I love it as it is but like also imagine this situation right, but like a human Phil and borrower Techno have like known each other for a long time but they've not like met face to face. So Phil knows about Techno but Techno refuses to be any closer than up on a high shelf or behind a vent where it's safe.

Techno only really talks to Phil because he's lonely but he's to scared to do anything more because obviously all the stories of humans hurting borrowers etc.

So when he starts growing and can suddenly hit his head on the make shift door to his home in the walls, he starts getting concerned. Even if it's slow, he's getting bigger and can't tell why.

He doesn't mention this to Phil as he's not sure what the human will do with the knowledge his little friend intruder is getting to big for the walls- hence being easier to catch.

On the other end, Phil has noticed that he's suddenly getting shorter. At first it was just a few cms, him chalking it up to getting older and inevitably starting to shrink in height, but he measured his height and he was almost and whole 5 inches shorter! It didn't make sense!

He had tried to voice his concerns with Techno about it, but the borrower had been strangely silent for the past few weeks. He'd only ever gotten slight glimpses of them when chatting, and he was becoming concerned that something may have happened to his small friend.

It was at that moment that he heard a very small "hey phil" and was shocked to turn and see a what must have been a comparable barbie sized Techno standing behind him.

"I need help."

The two basically then talk about how the other has been growing/shrinking and don't really understand what's going on just that it keeps happening. Unsure if this is going to continue, Phil starts teaching Techno about how to do and use things as a human and Techno as a borrower.

I think then at some point it would be really good if the moment when they were both the same size, that Techno basically breaks down scared out of his mind with having to basically become and act human and is scared about it lasting forever. He's been alone for years and now he has to just take phils place basically and act like it's normal? Cue the two having a heart to heart again and the first hug either has had in a long long time. And they're both the same size so it's perfect.

Continuing further I think basically they'd both become the same size as the other and adjust to new life with Phil being a lot more out int the open then what Techno was and Techno just learning how to adjust. They'd probably be those sizes for a few months and then randomly they'd start switching back again.

They never figure out why it happens, just that it does and it continues on like this for basically the rest of their lives and they adapt to it. I'd say they end up doing work from home jobs lol.

Yea, the tragedy is how Byleth has nobody their age to connect with as well as most not getting them to the point of dehumanization until Garreg Mach, but it's neat to think of.

ohhhh tbh i love this… in my mind, young edelgard is very precocious, but also extremely coddled (comes with being royalty) and kind of oblivious/condescending without meaning to be. “aren’t all tutors dreadful? hm? you don’t have lessons? what do you do all day? what?? you work??? is that allowed????”

like, well-meaning with a strong sense of justice, and genuinely curious about other people’s lives, but without a frame of reference for anything yet.

and young byleth, as you say, would have been intimidating to be around lol. an eerie and serious kid who probably learned how to kill a man not long after she learned to walk. i see her as being affable in the sense that she just kind of goes along with whatever situation she’s in, without any investment in it one way or another beyond doing what she’s told, but she would definitely be confused by other kids and struggle hard with social cues, etc. until she gets sufficiently good at reading people as to passably mask. it’s a very lonely and difficult way to live.

i could absolutely see edelgard running into this weird little girl and adopting her on the spot. “why don’t people play with you. what do you mean, you don’t know how to play. we’re going to play a game right now; so there.” edelgard is nothing if not driven and dedicated to the causes she believes in (and her massive savior/martyr complex doesn’t help lol—she’s already adopted one local weirdo by becoming besties with hubert). so i think if she set her mind to being byleth’s friend, she would make it happen. this kid is now her personal project. they WILL be friends.

and i reckon that friendship would do wonders for byleth. she had so little interaction with anyone her age in her youth, and having one real friend might make all the difference for her. edelgard could help ground her, and help her better understand the world they live in, and keep her in touch with her humanity—or, really, help her discover it in the first place. meanwhile, edelgard could learn a LOT from byleth, who’s spent her life unhoused* and pretty much living paycheck-to-paycheck with jeralt’s band of violent (and likely alcoholic, per jeralt and alois) mercs. byleth could lend her some perspective and further shape edelgard’s love for the people of fódlan, as well as her understanding of what kinds of societal changes are needed to make things better for everyone.

who knows, that connection might even lead sothis to emerge earlier…

the concern, of course, is jeralt, who (for debatably valid reasons) never wants to stay anywhere for too long, and probably would get super freaked out by the idea of his kid hanging around one of the heirs of the adrestian empire. whether they’d actually have enough time to become friends… idk.

but kids are funny when they set their minds to something. i’d like to think edelgard would decide, day one, that they’re friends, and friends help each other, so that’s what she’s going to do. i’d like to think that when edelgard found out byleth’s group would be leaving again soon, she’d use that big brain of hers and coax her father into hiring the mercenaries on for a long-term mission or as a standing battalion. adrestia’s been on the outs with the church for a good while already, so jeralt might feel comfortable enough to consider putting down roots, even if just for a little longer than usual.

that could REALLY change both byleth and edelgard’s lives. in my little daydream, byleth starts training to be a knight and a personal guard for edelgard, and basically spends as much time around her as hubert does. and maybe, when the insurrection happens edelgard is taken to fhirdiad, hubert stands a better chance of finding her with someone by his side who has spent her entire young life in the woods and on the roads, tracking enemies and avoiding pursuers. maybe they find her. maybe they help prevent some truly terrible things from happening.

what happens from there, idk; so many of edelgard’s views are informed by her experiences and it gets too complicated for my tiny brain to realistically figure out what would occur and who she’d be if it went down like that instead.

but byleth would be changed just by knowing edelgard. having someone in her young life who is invested in her, who sees beyond the fog of the day-to-day, who’s interested in what she wants, who embraces and celebrates her quirks and doesn’t shun her for them, who grants her stability and some agency in her own life… someone who sees her as a person, not just as a sword or set of hands… how could anyone not be changed by something like that?

* with the exception of Whatever The Fuck she was doing while jeralt was parading around in leonie’s village for however long. this is my least favorite plot hole in the game, namely because leonie acknowledges it. “huh. i don’t remember you being there, and you don’t, either. maybe you were with a relative”??? what relative, IS?? how many living relatives does byleth have that aren’t trying to turn her into a mommy-god??? why fake your kid’s death and disappear “for her safety,” just to ditch said kid somewhere with someone for months?????

sparkling forest: as you can tell from alisha's. quaint description. that's where pixies live. they're very colorful and bubbly and. well. children's fantasy esque. do not be fooled because "the pixies are SO fucking annoying you think it'd be a nice place for a picnic but NO you turn away for ONE SECOND and your sandwich is GONE and theres a little pink PEST fuckin GIGGLING at you" (pulls alisha away from the keyboard). there are also creatures that are Very Cute but . Very Sharp. so uhhh be careful

whispering forest: one of my favorites tbh. it's like. Far Away from other societies? on the border of The Worlds- okay so imagine a venn diagram right. one circle is earth one circle is etheria one circle is asteria etc (those are our 3 main dimensions(?) so theyre the example). the whispering forest is like right on one of the the borders of etheria/asteria but technically in etheria but also like at a point nemo super far from Everything place (not an island but you get it right) (also i could go in more depth about the world connections if you want!!)

ANYWAY back to the forest. it's Dark and Spooky and...telepathic. it's where spirit elves & spirit foxes live (theres other wildlife but not like. sentient ones) who are both telepathic species. they speak different telepathic languages(?) though but can learn each other's. they can't really. speak out loud? their vocal chords and mouth structure just aren't made for that. the trees are also telepathic-y but in like a plant way so it's not like full thoughts its telepathic Vibes. and if you're not used to telepathy and you go there hearing the wind whistle through the trees combined with the Vibe Of Telepathy sounds very eerily like people whispering bc your brain is trying to make sense of what it's. Vibing. which is why it's called the whispering forest. and also why no one outside of it really goes in

the dead forest: it's. uh. dead. but alive? i don't think anyone truly remembers what happened to it but some sort of Magic Nuclear Fallout left everything dead-looking but just barely alive And Wants You Dead. as in look that tree's just sticks Oh Fuck Them Branches Are Coming For Me. there are even zombie/skeleton creatures held together mostly by magic that also Want To Get You. so.

oh also asteria is Mostly Forest (yknow how this world is Mostly Ocean?) and it's just. alien. like forests here can have big trees right? okay so like triple that. them trees BIG. and almost all the wildlife have white spots on them that can appear to glow in the dark (to human eyes). the plants too can generate light for human eyes but the normal light sources (sun, fire) generate light that humans can't pick up or generate very very little. so humans and (moon) elves evolved to see different light spectrums. which is pretty cool

hmm what other fucked up biomes do we have. well there's living islands. they're actually Creatures that float along and like. yknow how some turtles and stuff grow moss on their back? that but so big that it's like a whole ass island. not sure if that really counts as a biome? thankfully they're not usually predatory but if you hurt it. well. earthquake + raising sharp spines. it will not go well. so usually just leave them alone just in case

those are off the top of my head that aren't like. Earth Biomes But With Fantasy Creatures. ig weird shit also happens where the world borders are thin/collide but i wouldn't really count that as a biome.

i hate not knowing why im the way i am. like i know im a dog and a dragon but why? am i actually a therian/otherkin or is it my autism and/or psychosis? my therapist keeps talking about how i fit the criteria for schizophrenia but he doesnt want to officially diagnose me with anything because of the symptom overlap with autism. i did used to have a schizotypal pd diagnosis before they knew i was autistic though?

uhh okay so, some preliminary caveats: i am only just now Currently going through the process of learning this stuff so my understanding may be especially limited for this subject + idk how much of this is intentional on hussie's part buuut i also generally don't care that much about "author's intent" anyways so. let's see what i can do here.

this is the, "kantian metaphysics of space & time and how that might apply to homestuck aspects, because i'm slightly insane & i need to make my homework interesting," post. you know the funk mclovin homestuck & philosophy series? this should fall into a similar vein.

SO.

kant sees space & time as essentially two fundamental features of human perception, i.e. two cognitive faculties inherent to the human mind & Experience (kant's big into jargon so i'm gonna try to be careful w/ words here but, ehh not that careful). notable context here is that a big part of kant's overall goal (i'm reading selections from both the critique of pure reason & the prolegomena) is to respond to the empiricist (e.g. hume) and rationalist (e.g. descartes) points of view, ultimately critiquing, agreeing with, and synthesizing together different aspects of both stances.

w/ a lot of the space & time stuff kant is really responding to hume, who, as an empiricist, saw experience as the primary source of any n all deep metaphysical truths. this is as opposed to the rationalist position, which saw metaphysical truths as coming primarily from reason (e.g. descartes' whole process in the meditations of hyperbolic doubt -> one fundamental truth of "i think, so i exist," -> CDP & reasoning back up to bigger metaphysical truths like the existence of God). i tend to think of hume's position as the more passive one here, where you can just sit n chill n receive information through experiences from the outside world, versus descartes' position which is more active and requires more vigorous reasoning.

it's hume's ideas about "experience" itself here that kant is poking at, specifically the ways in which humans understand experience in the first place. to do this kant executes a kind of copernican flip w/ the order of understanding & experience.

(under the ptolemaic model, earth was originally situated at the center of the universe, surrounded by the moon, sun, planets (then only mercury, venus, mars, jupiter, & saturn), w/ a wall of stars on the outside. in 1543, nic copernicus flipped this view w/ his new heliocentric model, which placed the sun at the center & earth in orbit around it as the third planet in. thus, the copernican flip.)

kant's flip here is about the order of sensory information coming in & being interpreted in the brain. typically, and this is the logic hume followed, the assumption is that we passively gain information about the external world through the senses (we experience things) and then -> we break it down & interpret to understand it. correct?

according to kant, fuck no. in order to have an experience As A Person, humans inherently must have the cognitive faculties to understand space & time prior to any synthetic judgements.

imagine building a model, or a bookshelf, or any kind of similar structure that provides you w/ pieces to put together yourself. if you've ever done anything like this before, you may know that not following the instructions makes it real easy to end up w/ a bunch of random leftover pieces that could just as easily be super fucking important or bonus spares. following the instructions, however, instead makes it a lot easier to understand what the true purpose of those pieces actually is. the paper just tells you. using this analogy: what kant is getting at here is not really the pieces themselves, but how they're understood by the person putting them together. space & time are essentially the instructions that determine what those spare pieces are-- only instead of being somewhat optional instructions, they are literally built into human understanding, like inherently. you are born w/ the instructions, and you cannot comprehend any of the pieces any other way. for another example of this: look at the room currently around you & focus on one object, like a chair, or a tree if you're outside. try imagining a space without that object, or even space without anything in it. shouldn't be too hard, you can even look up at the night sky and see all the empty space out there for yourself. now try imagining that object without space-- not just in the area surrounding it but inside it, creating the boundaries of it, not just 2D but completely lacking any spacial features at all. basically impossible, at least according to kant.

(just keeping this indented to break up the post a bit btw, not quoting anything here)

the important point to take from all this is that an understanding of space & time precedes actual sensory/synthetic experiences for kant. we simply Cannot comprehend things outside of spatial & temporal features, it is literally past the realm of human understanding.

this is where kant's whole synthetic a priori thing comes in w/ relation to his metaphysics. for a quick rundown:

analytic & synthetic: about judgements themselves.

analytic judgements: just about concepts, where the definition is contained within the term, i.e. the predicate is embedded within the subject. for example: all bachelors are single adults. no new information is added here, "single adult" is a part of the definition of "bachelor".

synthetic judgements: amplify knowledge, go beyond basic definitions, telling something new through the connection between two concepts via experience or intuition. for example: not all birds are capable of flight. these ones can be wrong, "capability of flight," is not something you inherently get from the definition of "bird". (alternate example: 5+7=12. you don't get the concept of 12, or even addition/math, from 5 & 7 alone.)

a prior & a posteriori: "from the earlier/prior to" & "from the later," respectively. about how judgements are known/justified/made.

a priori: independent of experience.

a posteriori: dependent on experience.

put together:

analytic a priori: conceptual truths.

analytic a posteriori: impossible (unless, maybe, you're God).

synthetic a posteriori: experiential truths.

synthetic a priori: possible, though difficult. the basis for kant's metaphysics. the big example kant uses here is geometry, which HE says is both synthetic, due to ideas like "all angles add up to 180 degrees" not being inherent to the definition of a triangle, and a priori, due to how geometry utilizes the cognitive faculty for understanding space that is built into the mind & is therefore independent of the need for experience/external sensory input.

that being said. what the hell does any of this shit have to do w/ homestuck, apples, you may be asking. well, barely anything, but lemme pull some conclusions out of my ass to justify subjecting you to this much kant. thank you if you've actually read this far. i love you.

the actual homestuck bit now:

it is made very clear at multiple points throughout homestuck that space & time are two aspects necessary for the completion of any given session of sburb/sgrub. one of my favorite series' to re-listen to on youtube, the textalks aspect analysis series, breaks this down in a really great way by pointing out that not only do space & time make up the basic fabric of reality, but they also specifically make up the basic fabric of homestuck's reality, as a narrative and story. they are the set and runtime as much as the physical world (or, following what we just went through, faculty of the mind- gonna make that connection in a sec, i promise).

i'd need to do more digging to check how explicitly this is said, but i think it's a reasonable conclusion that both a space & a time player are necessary for any session to even have a chance at success. the thematic associations w/ birth & death to space & time respectively are especially fitting for this reason, w/ the space players' ties to the breeding of the genesis frog & forge and time players' ties to a scratch construct (e.g. the beat mesa on LOHAC) being key to the success or restarting of any session of sburb. (a homestuck & death essay is next on my list to write. no promises for when that one's coming out.)

i actually don't remember if this is said directly, but it seems pretty clear to me that a part of the reason why the alpha kids' session was so completely, utterly stagnant was their lack of a time or space player. whether their session was void bc of a lack of time & space or was fated to be void & thus in turn fated to not have a time or space player is kind of besides the point here (skaia, like God, is one of those things that probably falls outside of human comprehension & the necessity of being subjected to the faculties for s&t), since either way they ended up not prototyping anything either.

rose discusses this w/ dave around (A6I2:4701-4708), when she breaks down void & null sessions:

DAVE: didnt you say at some point that not prototyping anything would be really bad ROSE: Yes. ROSE: It's just another way to create an infertile session. Though by a less catastrophic and bloody route we took to achieve the same result. ROSE: By contrast, it leads to a rather harmless, uneventful session. Underlings remain unaugmented, and so does the royalty. ROSE: And while this may sound advantageous to the players, it's a curse in disguise. The lack of prototypings which keeps adversaries unevolved has the same influence on the battlefield. ROSE: Without successive prototypings, the battlefield will never reach its final form, which must be fertilized to grow a new universe.

it's roses last line here that really stands out to me here, in connecting the failure of the session to evolve w/ the lack of prototypings to a lack of an evolved space.

slight sidenote, but one thing i've always wondered about is why hussie/whoever worked on the tie-breaker order for the extended zodiac quiz, decided to put time before space. even following kant's arguments (yes, we're still doing that) he seems to give space some precedence over time in the creation of his proofs:

Therefore the simultaneous existence of substances in space cannot be cognized in experience except under the presupposition of an interaction between them; this is therefore also the condition of the possibility of the things even as objects of experience.

this is maybe not the best quote, but basically, ifaik kant breaks down all of his arguments for time being a basic faculty after space, w/ time's arguments being dependent on the ability to understand thing spatially (?)

to really tie this all together though: i think i'm actually more interested in kant's metaphysics here for how they connect time & mind, highlighting further just how in sync terezi & dave were during the beta kids' session.

i still really like how tg managed to fit understanding of mind into my post on plato & knowledge, way back when i wrote that essay, though i think this kant stuff could be another interesting way of looking at it.

mind in hs is very caught up in actions, in looking at & judging people through the things they do. it's complementary to heart in how external it is, less caught up in the nuances of an internal self by looking primarily at the vast range of potential choices any individual may or may not make over the course of their life.

kant, too, likes utilizing this line between external & internal. it's a part of how he refutes the cartesian skeptical/"problematic idealist," perspective, by basically saying that you can't doubt the existence of an external world w/o also doubting the existence of an internal one too-- here, by tying the internal "i think, i exist," self to persistence over time, which must come from the external world as, taking from hume, the internal is in constant flux.

time (& even space) being an inherent faculty of the mind really works in this context, what with how terezi is essentially able to see the multitude of timelines that any & all given actions lead to, and i quite like how this also shows some of the underlying connections/overlap between multiple aspects.

that's one of the ideas brought up in those tex talks videos that i really appreciate too, actually-- the nuances of how different aspects can deal w/ similar ideas, e.g. "life" is it's own aspect but as i just pointed out space is also tied to birth (and time to rebirth; istg i'm writing that death post), light to energy/vigor/living in the spotlight-- hell, even breath & blood & heart to the physical necessities of life itself. i'm almost tempted to say that aspects are less, "building blocks of the world," as they seem to sometimes be portrayed, and more lenses that filter through and emphasize different fundamental ideas (fits the color theory stuff optimistic duelist & arrghus were doing, maybe). that would certainly also fit with the idea that seers channel all of their understanding through their aspect, fixating on one possible lens & seeing all there is to see through it.
