13 books
What’s up readers?! How about a little show and tell? Answer these 13 questions, tag 13 lucky readers and if you’re feeling extra bookish add a shelfie! Let’s Go!
Thanks @willameena for the tag! :D
1) The Last book I read:
Idk if it counts since it's a graphic novel but the last thing I read was Bolchoi Arena, by Boulet and Aseyn. It's a sort of Ready Player One universe (less dystopic i think though). I really like it, but I'm waiting for the fourth volume to come out and there isn't a release date yet 😭
(I don't think there's an English translation (yet) so i can only recommend it if you speak french, sorry)
2) A book I recommend:
Iron Widow, by Xiran Jay Zhao. LOVED IT! I'm bad at recommending stuff but: big monsters, pacific rim style machines to fight the monsters, polyamory, ruthless woman, plot twists... So cool!
Also Loveless, by Alice Oseman, because it's about aromanticism and asexuality which is almost non-existent in... any media really, and that book is very dear to me.
3) A book that I couldn’t put down:
All the ones I really like x) I struggle a lot with putting down a book once I'm into it. The first advice to fall asleep easier is always 'don't use your phone before bed, read a book instead!' but if I do that I won't even try to sleep, I'll just keep reading all night...
But I guess the one that I was the most surprised about not being able to put down is The Pillars of the Earth, by Ken Follet. I'm not particularly into historical books, and that's a huge book around the building of a cathedral, so I was a bit skeptical, but damn, it was great! It's over 1000 pages and I still managed to read it in less than a week while on a school trip.
4) A book I’ve read twice (or more):
So many of my childhood books. I almost spent more time re-reading my favorite stuff than reading new books lol. I think the ones I've re-read the most are Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and La Quête d'Ewilan.
5) A book on my TBR:
So many. Soooo many. I keep buying books even though I don't read them, help.
I'll go with the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers because I really want to read them, people keep recommending them, I have them (in a really cool edition), I can literally see them in my bookshelf right now, and yet I don't read them for some reason 🤷
6) A book I’ve put down:
Also a lot. If I manage to put a book down I can forget it exists in a couple of days, even if i loved it, and weeks later I'm like "oh shit, I never finished that book".
One of the few that I put down more or less on purpose is Silo, by Hugh Howey. I'm pretty sure I would like it if I kept reading but something happens only a few chapters in that put me off and kind of annoyed me so I never read the rest.
7) A book on my wish list:
Revenge of the Sith! And many other star wars books. The reason why I still don't have it is that I want it in english so I have to order it online from the UK probably, and between the shipping and the taxes from being from outside the EU (sometimes there are taxes, sometimes not, i don't understand how it works)(one time I had to pay taxes on my own clothes that I sent myself from the UK to France 😭😭 I'm still mad about it) it'll end up being way more expensive than it should, so I'm putting it off x) I looked for it when I was in scotland but they didn't have it :(
8) A favorite book from childhood:
The ones I mentioned in 4) were my all time fav, I can't think of any other right now even though I used to read a lot more books than i do now 🤔
9) A book you would give to a friend:
Honestly I would be so scared they didn't like it that I probably would never give a book to anyone unless they asked for it 😬 (except my family I guess)
Mayyybe a Dan Brown, like The Da Vinci Code? I feel like that would be a pretty safe bet, unless they hate the genre.
10) A book of poetry or lyrics that you own:
I don't think I have any? I had to read Alcools, by Apollinaire for the baccalauréat (french high school graduation exam) but I think it was my mom's copy and i honestly hated it. According to my teacher it was "cubist poetry" which, what? I was not smart enough to understand any of it, and it wasn't doing it for me.
(Literary analysis is my nemesis, I'm usually pretty smart but when I try to analyse a text it's just *no thoughts, head empty*)
I'm really picky about poetry so I don't really know where to start to read any.
11) A nonfiction book you own:
I don't have many: a few anthologies of queer stories, How to Invent Everything by Ryan North (literally what the title says lmao), Eject! Eject! by John Nichol (about the history of ejection seats, super interesting!), Les Guerres de Lucas by Renaud Roche and Laurent Hopman (a french graphic novel about George Lucas), and Tu mourras moins bête by Marion Montaigne (scientific stuff explained, but make it hilarious, also french comics)
12) What are you currently reading:
Ithaca, by Claire North, but I've barely started.
13) What are you planning on reading next?
No idea! Maybe Iron Flame, maybe The Priory of the Orange Tree, maybe Floating Hotel, maybe finally the Wayfarers series, maybe a random other book, who knows 🤷
If you've read all of that, thank you and congratulations!

honestly? yeah I would believe you
oh hell ya bc i am surprisingly passionate about this
i’m going to be real i understand vtubing is mostly based on idols, right? but i feel like the designs of models and how hard people lean into them is very reminiscent of drag artistry because of how impossible they are irl. i regularly see fuufuuchan in different appearances or presentations—legatus, archivist, alan, all forms of ovidia just to start—and like, the experimentation of gender and presentation through different characters itches something in my head that screams character comedy king a la jarvis hammer
and it goes on too. it’s very easy to see gavis bettel as a drag king. ironmouse as a fashion queen due to her many models. i see vtubers regularly drop music, do dances once they’re 3d/on games, y’all’re two lip syncs away from a pageant sometimes i swear
of course there’s intersections as well like ike and aia being drag race fans. i love seeing those two and their interpretation of gender! because vtuber models allow fashion that wouldn’t be possible in real life as WELL as the divide between the real world (flesh) and digital (vtuber) it allows a lot of room for people to be glamorous and interpret or critique gender (and other subjects) through that. for example ike’s crossdressing in flesh and in his vrchat model isn’t with an agenda in mind but makes his audience reconsider what their own definition of masculinity is. aia’s latest outfit is very inspired by magical girls and more specifically the military (style!!!) influence of their outfits and that goes hand in hand with how the lore associated can very easily be considered a statement on mental and physical disability. and so performing her own gender in an outfit that is influenced by the magical girl genre (which gets pretty sapphic pretty fast), military style (which alludes to strength, obedience, vigilance, etc), and invisible disability is So drag dude
hm. maybe i should make a post on aia’s lore and disability idk
anyways one of those two does his own thing regardless of heteronormative rules of gender because he wants to, not because there’s any underlying message about it, and that is a valid and real performance of gender. the other has a story associated with a look that bends heteronormative gender and advocates for a cause, and that is a valid and real performance of gender. and considering how drag is ultimately a critique of gender as well as society, people, etc through gender presentation, ya. they’re doing drag
i’m a believer that lip syncs are the foundation of drag but not a requirement. drag is fundamentally entertainment in general. so that’s how you get drag artists like divine who was mostly an actress but also did music. i’d also argue chappell roan, orville peck, lady gaga, lil nas x and dolly parton also fall under the umbrella of drag bc of how they incorporate their appearance into performance, and ofc bc they were also inspired by drag
so like, when i see unnämed’s 3d debut, what is fundamentally different from adore delano singing and playing music in drag. at some point we have to recognize things like changing colors, flame effects, etc are all extremes that contribute to an overall Look
and i won’t lie, i don’t have a lot of accessible drag near me so boulet brothers’ dragula is my favorite show. so we see artists in all sorts of entertainment fields: music, stand-up, stunts, fashion, acting, dance, merchandising, modeling, comedy, art, hell even ttrpgs. i can think of more than a few vtubers that have done or regularly do these things. if you dig biqtch puddin’s digital drag show streams then boy do i have news for you, as well as the many other drag artists that do youtube or streams
and if you REALLY want to get into the gender theory of it all then porcelainmaid is RIGHT THERE.
if you see drag artistry as putting on a character then doppio dropscythe, vox akuma, twisty amanozako, fulgur ovid, and pretty much every holo vtuber would count (and to a lesser degree every corporate vtuber)
if you see drag artistry as an element of an entertainer’s performance then mori calliope, finana ryugu, ren zotto, aster arcadia and uki violeta would count
if you see drag artistry as aesthetic/style of the person behind the screen then k9kuro, quinn benet’s vtuber model, cyyu, randon neuring, and porcelainmaid would count
but the point i’m trying to get at here is that drag blends appearance and entertainment together by satirizing or emphasizing gender, right? and that can be entertaining through all sorts of mediums which includes standard vtuber activities like streams. of course it’s up to the vtuber themself to declare themself a drag artist or not but if i woke up tomorrow and saw gawr gura added “bio queen” to her twitter bio i… really would not be surprised
so if someone could edit the “after a long night of hooking” audio on top of zali’s debut lore i’d appreciate it

dragula finale liveblog, under the cut. i'll just make one post and type in it as i watch.
warning: spoilers ahead
first thought: a lip-synch? may the best monster win? this is just goth rupaul i guess.
second thought: the boulets are gorgeousssssss i LOVE their headpieces. anna-varney CUNTodea more like
skipping most of the confessionals. i want to be surprised. but i did catch nio's and it's like hoso's, part 2, but it's an important message and it still feels fresh.
love throb's filth idea.
ork remains colombian tommy wiseau. "my filth look is inspired by this... fucking GROSS slug... i found one time in a bathroom."
ork is such a sweetheart. i do not get why the fandom on reddit seems to hate him. i think it's probably classism and maybe a bit of racism. he's like what jay kay said they were-- up-front and honest and 'telling it like it is.' unlike jay kay, ork can actually dish it out AND take it, it seems like. (i do not dislike jay kay, but the way they were portrayed on the show made it seem like they were immature but not in the fun way. i do love a shit-stirrer but i like someone who's more incisive and self-aware about it.)
throb is very sincere and a bit socially inept. which i find charming.
i would have loved to see more of blackberri beyond 'nicey cutie with a beard.' like that weird tangent a few episodes ago about the christian traveling puppet show. like what? hello??? that was FASCINATING? she spent too much time being the producers' friend and not enough time being blackberri. imo.
at this point (~20 minutes in) i think nio's taking the crown.
FILTH TIME!
first thought: ork needs more goop for his slug to be gross. it's just cute, not filthy.
second thought: oh. oh THERE'S the slime. i am literally gagging so that's a good indication this was a 'successful' look. not the first time i've seen that pose from ork tho. nonetheless i would have liked more slime. it's a 'fucking GROSS slug,' so i want slimes and goops!
first thought: blackberri doing some christian puppetry callbacks with that suit. i think that's a good idea. playing to her strengths. it's kind of cute and menacing in an '80s mascot costume that was left in a warehouse and is now mildewed and spooky' way.
second thought: insufficiently filthy. ohhh you ate a raw fish. and? and? put more gross trash in your mouth! nose fell off too!
first thought: throb is also not sufficiently gross. but i love the lewk.
second thought: nvm i am again litcherally gagging. i have a thing about bubbly fluids and i was never more glad for 'switching tabs and looking away.'
fist thought: NIO OH GROSSSSSSSSSS. nio proving that the filthiest thing......is racism U___U. also slopping around in rotting food. that is also very nasty.
second thought: idk there was more potential for nio being gross. she came out so strong and i was underwhelmed by how gross she didn't get. make soy sauce come out of the pig foot strap on!!!!
winner: throb. i think a filth look is successful if it makes me feel sick.
post-show: oh, i didn't know ork was trying to literally puke. it would have been SO good if it had worked. next time put some ipecac on that tail, ork!
HORROR TIME
woah ork has great taste in obscure scary movies!!!! blackberri has a great taste in classic horror movies!!!! the girlies have done the reading!
nio: this could have been a glamour look. giving TITTYcut follies. i think the bodysuit was underwhelming though. same with the hairography.
blackberri: LOVE the idea and i think the execution is 80% there. the glittery blood is SO good. i just wish the skin looked more like skin and less like a trash bag? also lol at the silly little heels.
ork: jesus christ
throb: eh, whatever. why the pregnancy? i liked how unwholesome and distended the belly looked. maybe they could have leaned into that more?
winner: ork. i mean. come on. runner-up: blackberri based on concept alone.
GLAMOUR
oooh i just noticed the boulets' glove nails. we looooove
nio: best face, absolutely the most glamorous face. the bodysuit is good but i think it needs more rhinestones, or encrusted jewels from the sea, or something.
blackberri: nice but not especially glamorous? idk. i need more. and i haaaaated the necklace. it felt so out of place and like something i could get on aliexpress for 10 bux (and not in the ork "make something that cost next to nothing into art" way).
ork: i don't think it's uhhhh glamorous in the conventional way. i like it but i don't get 'glamour' from it. i think the number one ork critique (he can only do one thing) applies here.
throb: lmao this IS goth rupaul. complete with rose petal reveal. weird chest piece too. but unarguably glamorous. face was so good. also, they had the best performance. you can tell they were a burlesque performer. also, their gags finally worked :3 yaaaaay!
the music reminds me of the birthday massacre. nostalgic, to me.
winner: tie between nio and throb. this glamour section was probably the weakest of the three sections.
alright. all the sections are over.
based solely on the floor show i stand by my original assessment that it's nio's show to lose. throb (not memorable but quite good at what they do) and ork (one-trick pony, but that pony can fuckin PERFORM) tied for second. blackberri should not have made it this far. i do not think there should have been a top 4.
judging panel boulets again steal the show. i adore the wigs with the spiky sparkly gelled (?) points, and the luxurious big fluffy (feathery?) collars.
why tf are they hyping blackberri so much? what kind of dirt does she have on them? did something get lost in translation? is it something you have to see in real life and you're missing something otherwise?
aw at the boulets being nice to nio.
love the final lewks. my favorite is ork's because it's a callback to the dbz-looking thing he had for the blacklight challenge. nio's underwhelms me but it's a smart choice for if you're dunked in blood. the makeup is killer. throb's is ehhhh. blackberry's is quite glamorous and put together but insufficiently goth/weird for me. i do like the face pearls though!
YAAAAAAAAAY I WAS RIGHT NIO WON. and ork clapping his flippers in delight again :3
anyway. good season i guess. i hope jarvis is in a mental space where he's good to compete again for titans. and i hope there's nothing terrible that happened between nio and ork.

oh now that dragula s5 is over i can do my writeup on that too. spoilers for the whole season (and probably show) below the cut
i guess i'll kinda go episode by episode for this.
ep 1: fun way to start off, love when they make them walk around in the woods n shit in full drag. everyone meeting for the first time was fun as well big personalities right off the bat. correct winner and correct bottom 2. i loved the extermination challenge on this one, hardcore as fuck.
ep 2: i will say i am not a fan of contestants (of any show) returning for no real reason. however i very much enjoyed jay kay on the show so i can't say i'm too mad about it. VERY correct winner, throb nailed that floorshow. i do not remember if cynthia deserved bottom2 off the top of my head but correct extermination. unfortunate because onyx is a cool performer just a little too... shy/quiet/etc for the show. there is no amount of money you could have paid me to do this extermination i do NOT do bugs </3 but i do love a gross one.
ep3: this was the ghost episode which was fun. by this point this season had already surpassed s4 for me. loved jay kay's bellhop look, deserved the win especially after the rough start. i remember throb doing really well this one too. as for the bottom 3 this ep. clearly there is something about orkgotik's drag that i just do not get. the entire time i thought their looks were messy and i didn't get the concepts but they were PRAISED by the judges (up until here) for it all. like ep1 when they were called to stay on stage i legit thought they were bottom 3 not top 3. obviously this is just a me thing bc other people online seem to really like them too. i forgot about satanna so i'm assuming her going home here was right. another good extermination with the rats but fuck that looked miserable. i would do it but i would not be happy about it LOL
ep4: ok it seems like the fanbase doesn't care for monsters of rock but i LOVE monsters of rock, and having this broken up into 2 episodes felt like a bonus for me. fantasia absolutely deserved the win here, she really is an excellent performer. i know a lot of ppl thought the whole time she wasn't giving monster (myself included at a few points) but you cannot deny her stage presence at all. jarvis and jay kay definitely did deserve bottom 2 and jarvis did lose that lipsync which was unfortunate but jay really beat his ass lol. jarvis's death scene may also have been one of the best in the show so far.
ep5: part 2 of monsters of rock. ok so i enjoyed this half less LMAO i do not care about songwriting on the show/rpdr, most of the time its mid at best; but i do get that its also how a lot of artists make money. but then again not every drag performer should be a recording artist lol. ANYWAY on to the actual floorshow. orkgotik's band NAILED it and they def deserved the win. fantasia's band was for the most part pretty good (or at least fantasia herself was good LOL) but man... you could tell niohuru had never performed like that before. i also forgot anna was on this season and it was way past her time to go. i like the tattoo exterminations, but it is pretty clear they use those to get rid of whichever contestant they want to get rid of. i think anna held her own in this extermination comparatively speaking between the two tattoo designs. i liked the tattoo challenge from s3 the best where they got to pick a tattoo for the other competitor.
ep6: i BARELY remember this episode oop. had to go to the wiki to get the synopsis of what happened. i thought it was strange the boulets said the floorshows weren't "what they were expecting". ok if everyone "missed the mark" then clearly your instructions weren't good enough. i remember the looks being cool but the actual "selling" being kind of.. forced? idk. not as much fun as i was hoping it would have been. i do not remember anyones looks this episode, but i do remember blackberri's win being deserved. i do not remember if fantasia deserved bottom but jay kay definitely did, and he gave up in the extermination! so yeah! its just pregnancy simulators that shouldn't be that difficult especially when you have contestants bungee jumping and eating maggots.
ep7: oooohhhhhh mygod. this was a great episode. i know they also said the runways "weren't what they were expecting" again but like i said before that's on them. i thought these runways were cool as fuck. blackberri and throb had really cool looks but hooolllyyyyyy shit niohuru. niohuru blew me the fuck away with that floorshow. i literally sat there eyes locked on the screen jaw open. she deserved to win the season on that alone. holy fuck. cynthia and orkgotik were definitely deserving of bottom 2 but man i loved cynthia she was so much fun even if her runways weren't the best. personally would have sent orkgotik home here but like i said i'm clearly missing something about their drag that everyone else loves.
ep8: this one i didn't care for but it certainly wasn't a bad episode. i think i'm just unfamiliar with the floorshow theme and that's probably why it didn't impact me the same. again i would not have given orkgotik the win here, i would have given it to throb. the extermination challenge for this one was fun i like it when they let them straight up fight. this was unfortunately fantasia's time, but i think she did better than a lot of people expected, i think she showed she has the versatility to be any kind of performer.
ep9: last supper, which is always a good time. loved whoever it was pulling a vape out in the middle of the episode fgfhjdsk i do not care for on-screen relationships but i know a lot of people wanted a clearer answer wrt niohuru/orkgotik.
ep10: ok so finale. i have to say i did NOT like final 4 last season and i did NOT like it this season. there is no reason to have 4 out of your 11 contestants as potential winners. i would have cut orkgotik or blackberri (but really orkgotik) and made it a final 3. i also hate that they went in a different order (filth/horror/glamor as opposed to glamor/filth/horror) bc seasons 1-3 went in the same order. i also have to say i wasn't particularly blown away by anyone's finale looks. i thought throb did a good job overall, if we were picking a winner based off the final floorshow alone it would have been throb. i thought niohuru's and blackberri's looks were all around kinda mid, niohuru's takeout look was very good though. i actually liked orkgotik's horror look for this one! only took me to the finale to get on board with them then the boulets immediately turn around and say they didn't like that one dfgfhjdksa either way, niohuru was the clear winner of the season and she definitely earned it. its also nice to have a non-american, asian trans woman in the winner's circle.
overall, i would rank the seasons 2 > 3 > 5 > titans > 1 >>>>> 4 at this point in time (i had a lot of issues with season 4) but its also been a minute since i've watched season 1. not ranking these on performers but in terms of how the season was produced. i think they've improved a LOT since season 4/titans alone, let alone season 1, but i think there's still some room for improvement. and now i'm getting bored writing this so i'm ending it here lol

“Feeling a softer winter ahead to be honest!! I'm interested in show recs from anyone!”
I love movies and tv! these are some shows I’ve been watching or have watched:
Tell Me Lies: a drama about a group of friends and a toxic relationship within the group that jumps between them in college (early 00’s) to them as older adults (mid 00’s)
English Teacher: gay English teacher in Texas idk what else to say, really funny and made by Brian Jordan Alvarez if you know who that is
Heartstopper: a very feel good type of show, lots of different representation for anything queer related
Smiling Friends: this one is adult animation and the episodes are kinda short but omg it’s so funny, I love the humor in this show. also Finn voiced a character in the 1st season that lived in the walls of the office building where the only thing in there was a box with a computer on it that the character immediately covered when another character saw him
Boulet Brothers Dragula: reality drag competition that has a lot of different types of drag. they’re three pillars of how they choose a winner is filth, horror, and glamour so if that’s not your thing idk how well you’ll like it. the boulets brothers also grade them off of how well they were able to fit their drag style into the context of the challenge which I like. if you do watch it I rec starting with s2, 4, or 5 those are just my favorites though
Just for fun here’s some recent movies I’ve seen:
It’s What’s Inside
Strange Darling
Didi
Cuckoo
The Substance
National Anthem
I Saw The Tv Glow
All of Us Strangers
Oh, this is amazing 🫶🫶🫶 quite a list to research into and add to my winter watchlist. It is very blank at this point other than a few random movies so this was so awesome of you to send over!
Thank you for sending TV and movies - I'm interested in finding new shows but movies are easier for me to just throw on. Hell yeah. All of these sound really interesting!!! I'll do a little deeper research but I'm kinda willing to try anything right now, blank page.
And oooh several of those movies are already on my watchlist so I'm gonna bump them up in the need to see category!!!
Thank you friend ❤️❤️

posting here bc i have no followers here and i dont want to argue with anyone on the internet ..... i feel like i keep seeing people talk about the harsh criticism and unfair standards for sigourney are misogyny (which i'm not saying isn't true) but i don't see enough people talking about how the harsh criticism and dismissal of hoso's creative visions are racism and a sore lack of cultural sensitivity /:

I've been really annoyed at a lot of takes I see on Reddit and couldn't put my finger on why, but today I realized it's because they have a lot of snobbery towards shounen and assume ONE is making fun of every element of it. which I don't think is true. he pokes fun for sure, but I see a lot of "he's deconstructing the shallow shounen trope of blah blah and ridiculing it" which feels excessively mean. Most of the time someone presents the trope being "deconstructed," it's something shounen already handles with nuance. So it's extra annoying because it sounds like people who don't actually read shounen and just assume everything in OPM is ridiculing it. OPM is definitely subversive, but idk. It reminds me of how people who read "real literature" scoff at YA fiction as if there's no way it could ever tackle nuanced themes. Maybe I'm reading too much into it. I guess I just dont wanna think of ONE as being so petty and snobby. What do you think? Maybe i'm too sensitive
Talk about a late, late reply. Sorry!
It's a good observation. I'm not the right person to talk about shonen in detail because I tend to dip in and out of individual titles so there's a lot of nuance I do miss, but you're right, people who dislike a genre tend to lump all its tropes together into an undifferentiated mass.
A slight digression as I introduce you to Boulet, a fantastic French comic strip artist, has a splendid comic collection online (https://english.bouletcorp.com/). Sadly, I'm unable to find the specific strip I have in mind but in it he's imagining how vastly different films would feel if you just kept the camera rolling a little longer. So we get to the aftermath of the Ewoks's victory and see these cute critters dragging the corpses of the Stormtroopers away, mocking some of them... really changes the feel of it. The thing that's different about ONE's handling of shonen tropes in One-Punch Man isn't that he deconstructs them per say -- he loves shonen stories and really has put a lot of thought into how they work -- it's that he keeps the camera rolling. What happens then? So what? What happens as a result? And then? That's what makes it feel like a deconstruction and also serves as the springboard for its seinen genre...
More seriously though, One-Punch Man isn't a parody at its heart: it has a lot of parodic elements but its focus isn't a genre -- it's got bigger things to tackle. ONE does remind me of Terry Pratchett in a way: the Discworld series may have started out as parodies of common fantasy tropes but they quickly outgrew that purpose and the stories became much richer explorations of various aspects of human nature, all while staying fantastic and funny.
I tend to say that ONE parodies heroes -- he loves the weird, contradictory, earnest people who step forward when everyone else avoids trouble and there's a lot of affection for them even as he pokes fun at some of the silliness the superhero genre has thrown up. He satirises corporate culture, and there's a lot of horror that's just put out there without comment for the smart reader to notice and piece together.
It does get annoying when there's fans who claim it can all be understood at a high level and that it needs must be a zero-sum game: if you like OPM, you must disparage the 'standard shonen'. Fortunately, one can simply... ignore the fools. I know I do!
Life is short. You won't stay young forever -- unproductive discourse is something to cut hard and early out of one's life!

I had typed up all this stuff abt dragula but then i lost it unfort.... But my stomach is keeping me up so i figured its a decent way to kill time..
Honestly after having listened to the podcast i enjoyed the show a bit more. Knowing tht boulets deliberately cut the floorshows to be as entertaining as possible n to reflect as positively as possible on the performers is actually rlly sweet? So this time around i wasnt as annoyed by not knowing about stuff.
Ngl i was a lil underwhelmed by Hoso's character? Idk the key was a cool touch but it just felt perplexed abt like .... Wht story was being told? Which isnt a criticism even bc im sure it came across to the judges well bc they were actually there lol.
Its cute tht Zava was giving Sig actual pointers? And how they're just such a peaches superfan? Getting her eyebrows down pat? Also zava did literally cast everyone to showcase them n push them to b their best? Like casting dahli n saint as the mothers when a. They are the 'veterans' at this point, as well as Dahli being very into keeping everything King-adjacent. Sig as the igor/riff raff character to push her to face act more and also have a more ...classic-horror monster silhouette?
Also tbh it is Very funny to me tht Sig was like 'yes this look will be filthy but itll still have tits' meanwhile Zava has just tits out under a mesh harness? At this point im getting a leeeetle frustrated w sigourney just bc i do want to see if she can achieve anything ....gross? Bc her having trouble come up with anything? Idk mb its just bc of her whiteness but it is rubbing me wrong?
I love tht the boulets were considerate of the fact that saint might just be an understated performer but still wanted her to push the performance to be less reserved.
Also the death scene rocked my socks off, it was well deserved, weird that this is the first death where we didnt see the boulets though,

sjdjhd ok so this is crazy also my roommate is ur mutual I think so they Know who this which is embarrassing bc I briefly discussed it with them. but anyways I had a dream that I was abigail recently and my irl dad was hannibal (idk if that makes sense. like it was scenes from hannibal but instead of made playing him it was my irl dad this middle aged hipster IT guy from florida) which is WEIRD to me bc I’ve never really identified w abigail but it also makes sense bc when I watched hannibal with my dad he very clearly identified with hannibal. which i think is because he definitely sees hannibal as a metrosexual which is also how he sees himself. also bc he loves to cook. when the cooking scenes came on he’d be like “hm. i should make boulets liegois tonight.” what is happening
what’s happening is you need to convince your dad to get a doctorate and start a psychiatric practice

i can see where you're coming from but there's other forms of drag. some forms of drag are far more gender bending, abstract, and androgynous. drag also doesnt inherently exclude women, as there are such things as bio-queens (women who do femme-presenting drag) and drag kings (basically what it sounds like). there is more to drag and drag culture than pageantry, though it is the most popular form thanks to RPDR (which yeah definitely has its own problems). also most drag queens end up loosing more money than they make due to expenses from things like wigs, costumes, and makeup.
i understand where your point of it belittling woman comes from, but not all drag queens play the airhead bimbo role. there are some that do, but its most certainly not all. not all drag is the over-the-top bimbo, such as categories like fish queens (ok this term is a bit controversial but idk what else to call it) who try to look like women (this is actually a style that's gaining popularity as its more fashion centered and has more room to be experimental). many (male) drag queens recognize that they do possess male privilege and try to bring awareness to women's issues through their drag.
also, not all drag queens do "mindless talents". standup comedy and choreographed dancing, and occasionally live singing are often integral parts to drag shows, all of which take years of practice and dedication. The kind of dancing some queens do is especially physically demanding. the kind of makeup drag queens do is also extremely difficult, having to completely restructure their face using only concealer, highlight, and contour.
if you want some examples of less gender focused drag then I would encourage you to watch the Boulet Brother's show Dragula. It's also a reality competition, but it is more focused on alternative drag, and more inclusive. the elimination process can be disturbing (episode one of season two has queens being suck with needles). but its a great show, and generally more mature than RPDR. That being said not everyone on RPDR is the bimbo airhead. Some contestants like Rock M. Sakura or Yvie Oddly I think would fit better in Dragula, although that also doesn't mean no one on drag race experiments with the limits of fashion and cosmetics. And the current season has the first out trans man contestant, Gotmik, who is currently in the top four and all of his looks, in the most sincere way possible, are gnc af.
I need to ranbtyyttttttt ok so an organization I’m in is hosting a drag show at school and I decided not to participate bc like I think drag shows are really fucking sexist....
like what does the world say about women who do pageants????? who dress provocatively????? to do useless mindless talents???? Yeah they get called airheads and stupid and that all they can do is sell themselves to the male gaze.
But when a man does it.............. they can be on nice reality tv shows and become millionaires and etc etc etc. a woman cannot do it but a man fronting as a woman can.
and and i had to say i didn’t want to participate for religious reasons (only bc they started saying how they wanted to purposely spite christian groups) and not bc of this bc I really feel then I’m gonna get called things I’m not. Bc defending women takes a backseat bc we must uplift men at all times i guess
and like I get some men can be more effeminate but like why the caricature. why the grotesque portrayal of women. It’s all super stereotypical and over sexualizing femininity. and what’s worse is that women get tricked into supporting bc we don’t want to come off a certain way but it’s just another way men objectify and degrade us and capitalize on us.
