All great advice! a few more tips, if I may:
eat like a toddler. I keep frozen chicken nuggets with added veggies in the breading, frozen tater tots, and baby carrots in my fridge at all times. throw ‘em on a pan, into the oven/toaster oven for 15 mins, and you’re done without much work at all.
with that said, sometimes bland foods are necessary (at least for me, w sensory issues). I also recommend plain crackers or pretzels with colby jack cheese, corn chips with mild salsa, or a plain tortilla slapped on a pan with some shredded cheese (or even american cheese). if dairy is doable for you, starch + cheese is a great way to get filled up and get energy
powdered mashed potatoes!! so easy to make (just use milk instead of the water + butter mix they call for, it’s easier) and super tasty. add leftovers for an easy tasty meal. similarly, instant rice.
speaking of leftovers, always make leftovers. if you have the spoons/time/resources to cook a full meal, make an extra serving or two and you’ll thank yourself later. also, I don’t really follow freezing rules; do whatever you need to do lol
spinach is a great way to add veg to your meals; throw a couple handfuls into any soup or stew -like meal and it wilts away in seconds. plus once the bag starts to look a little sad you can save it in the freezer and still use it the same way.
What to Eat When You Know You Need Too But Just Can't Think About That Right Now
Do you have peanut butter or another nut butter? That + an apple + crackers covers protien, fat, and suger and gets you some plant matter. Even just a spoonful of peanut butter or your preferred alternative is better then nothing
Instant oatmeal, you can add dried fruit and/or peanut butter to add calories and protein which will fill you up longer
If you have veggies like carrots, broccoli, or cherry tomatoes throw them in a bowl and you can slowly snack on them. If you've got cheese and something like pepperettes congrats you now have a meal with most major bases covered
Instant ramen + an egg + any frozen veggies like peas or carrots. Just chuck the latter two in while you boil the water. Now you have something filling with veggies, carbs, and protein and it takes about the same amount of spoons and time as normal instant ramen
If solid food or the act of eating is an issue heat up some broth add any spices you'd like and stick it in a mug. If you've got the energy smoothies and shakes also work, if not meal replacement drinks can be a lifesaver
If you've got granola and yogurt then try the two together. The fat and protein in yogurt will give you more energy and keep you feeling full longer then milk
Haven't eaten in a long time and feel too gross to eat? Try drinking something sugary, your blood sugars probably nosedived and that causes nausea, dizzyness, and other unpleasant stuff that makes eating difficult, getting something sugary into you helps correct that and makes eating easier
In general if you find eating difficult anything with protien and fat will help you feel full longer, so if your struggling to eat try and go for foods with those because its going to lessen the shitty gross "I feel to hungry to eat" feeling that can happen. The most important thing though it to get food, any food is better then no food.

Productive Break Taking
Image ID/transcript under the cut!
[IMAGE ID: Eight square images with a salmon and sage color scheme containing organic abstract shape drawings and the following text:
productive break taking: a guide to getting the most out of your study breaks
1. what is a productive break? “productive breaks” is a common term in the online study community, but it is commonly misused. a productive break isn’t a break that you do productive things during (i.e. cleaning, etc); a productive break is a break that produces real rest.
2. in my opinion, a better term for these breaks is intentional breaks. this is because a productive break has to be intentional in order to successfully produce rest. intentionally choosing your break makes sure that you can enjoy your break and get the most out of it. being intentional about breaks means choosing the: time, activity, and place.
3. Time: the first step in creating an intentional, productive break is choosing when your break will be. Before: taking a break before starting charges your batteries. During: taking breaks during work, like the pomodoro method, helps maintain energy. After: taking a break after work creates a reward.
4. Time: it’s also important to choose how long your break will be. whether you set a timer, alarm, or simply watch the clock, choosing a set amount of time for your break can ensure that it remains intentional. also, if yu don’t have a set time for your break, you may find yourself starting to feel guilty, or “unproductive.” this is the antithesis of a productive, or intentional break. an intentional break is productive simply by being a break; there’s no wrong way to take a break. this also means that your break can be as long or as short as you want!
5. Activity: an intentional break also requires intentional activity. However, “activity” is another word that’s sometimes used to promote productivity culture. activity doesn’t mean being active; it just means being specific about what you are doing. just like time, there’s no wrong activity to do while taking a break. scrolling through social media, staring out a window, or taking a nap are all productive break activities in that they can help you rest and relax. the key is intentionally choosing to do what you are doing on your break.
6. Place: the last step in intentional break taking is choosing where you take your break. just like the other two steps, there’s no wrong place to take a break! At the desk: taking breaks where you work can get you back in focus quickly. Outside: going outside is proven to help you reset and improve mental health. New space: moving to a different chair or room can make a break feel more comprehensive.
7. a productive break isn’t a break when you get stuff done; it’s when you get rest done.

here’s a small tip today - at the beginning of your semester/when you get a new job, draft an email to use in case of emergencies. put interested parties’ emails in the bcc: field (so they don’t see each other’s emails) and write something like the following:
Hello,
I wanted to let you know that I am currently experiencing an emergency that will prevent me from fulfilling my usual responsibilities. I will contact you when I can in the next day or two with further details. Thanks so much for your understanding.
this way, you don’t have to go hunting for people’s emails when you’re in crisis mode, and can just hit send.

using google docs to make a source list
I love using Google Docs to save all of my sources and notes for a paper or research project, and I wanted to share how I format that using the native outline feature on Google!
I start by making topic headers; these are formatted with "heading 1."
Once I've found a source that I think I'll use, I add it under the appropriate section. I set the title to "heading 2" and include the full citation as "heading 3" so that I can easily create my final bibliography later. I also include a version of the in-text citation for easy use in writing the paper, and a link to the actual article. I also sometimes copy in the abstract so that I know what the source is actually about, especially if the title is vague.
Using these different header styles generates an automatic outline on the side of the document that makes it easy to find sources in a long list of references! You can also edit the styles of each of the header styles to match your preferences, such as fonts, sizes, and colors. Google Docs is also easily accessible from mobile, which makes on-the-go research even easier.
hope this is useful! this post is heavily inspired by @myhoneststudyblr‘s post on taking notes on google docs, so check that out too!

I've graduated from undergrad and won't be a student again until the summer, so I redid my dashboard to fit my life better for the next few months! I'm really pleased with it, I love featuring all these works of art and quotes in a place where I'll see them frequently.
