I’ve got a weird-ass megaman au that’s been bouncing around my skull for like five years and has never once left it, so I’m gonna jot it down here. If you notice any plot holes and stuff like that, feel free to send an ask about it. Just don’t @ me for diverging from canon pls.

Lore

-It takes place in 20XX and combines the classic and x series. Dr. Light is a talented roboticist but he didn’t per say invent sentient robots

-Reploids have been around since Light and Wily were teenagers (let’s say around 50-60 years) and were invented by a group of scientists (minorly including the two young prodigies) using both current knowledge of robotics and the reverse engineering of ancient robotic tech (ie. stardroids)

-All robots with human-level self-awareness are called reploids, ‘robot master’ is a trades title like journeyman

-The Maverick Wars occurred before the classic-era robots were created. Think like the Hard Age in MMFC. Reploids were thought of as tools and servants before the wars and they were getting tired of it. Outrage festered as reploids bided their time, and the introduction of the Maverick Virus from an unknown source was the moment all hell broke loose.

-The war (or at least the virus) was mostly contained to Abel City, the sprawling city-state that was the birthplace of the first reploids and the location of numerous ancient sites and an odd amount of meteor activity. The city’s protective barrier, originally made to defend against the frequent meteor showers, helped to keep the virus and combat within its borders. The conflicts lasted for about 18 years before a cure to the virus was found and Abel’s Charter enshrined personhood and equal rights for the reploid race.

-The Maverick Hunters were formed by the military shortly before the war began, when it was merely civil unrest. They were a division of reploid soldiers tasked with controlling reploid crime and enforcing the strict guidelines reploids had to live by (yucky). When the virus emerged and the conflict escalated, the Hunters began mass drafting any capable reploid into their ranks.

-Recognizing Dr. Wily’s technological prowess and more importantly his moral ambiguity, the government commissioned him to create a living weapon. He stole elements from Light’s blueprints for X to create Project DWN-Infinity, a nameless female warbot-type reploid (lmao that sure changes) designed to kill, deceive, seduce, win by any means, and follow orders without question (this ALSO changes). DWN-Infinity became a high-ranking officer in the Maverick Hunters before the virus’s emergence, seemingly coming from nowhere and taking her place as Commander Sigma’s second-in-command. Dr. Wily split from the government and moved to Monsteropolis shortly after DWN-Infinity’s completion.

-Dr. Light completed his first reploid and his son, X, not long before everything hit the fan. X was unknowingly a revolutionary step in reploid technology, imbued with the mysterious Infinite Potential that allows him to grow and change in ways most reploids can’t. X was taken at just two weeks old, and Light was evacuated along with most civilians.

Monsteropolis

-After about 12 years in Monsteropolis, Dr. Wily and Dr. Light eventually came to a truce and created Blues, a reploid with what was supposed to be a cutting-edge fusion power core prototype. During those events, Light and Wily’s tentative friendship shattered for good, with Wily moving to his island base and secretly plotting revenge over the old grudges that had resurfaced. Blues’s story mainly follows Archie’s canon. After it was revealed that his power core would eventually kill him, Blues ran away from Dr. Light and was taken in by Wily, who fixed and modified him into Break Man.

-As of the current day, Dr. Light lives in Monsteropolis, living a relatively peaceful life with his reploid children in the city outskirts. He was told by the Maverick Hunters that X had died during the early months of the war, and has since tried his best move on. The children know nothing of X’s existence due to the subject’s painful nature.

-Dr. Wily, avoiding his old colleague at all costs, lives on a secluded island off the coast of Monsteropolis. He chose not to know or care about the fate of DWN-Infinity and erased all records of her creation.

-Bass and Piano were built around the same time as Rock and Roll, but are slightly younger by a few months. Again, Dr. Wily stole elements from Rock’s and Roll’s blueprints to build them.

-Blues, now 15, lives a nomadic life. He’s barely on speaking terms with Light and Wily, but he does visit Rock and Roll on occasion.

In Abel City

-X was assigned to be DWN-Infinity’s begrudging protege shortly after he was drafted. Initially, he despised her cold, callous, unscrupulous nature, but eventually grew to see the surprisingly complex individual under the facade. The two eventually grew to be friends and trusted comrades.

-DWN-Infinity was essentially the teacher’s pet of the Maverick Hunters, quickly climbing the ranks and falling into Commander Sigma’s favour. After Sigma’s betrayal and the viral catastrophe, she became the leader of Sigma’s unit. To the outside world, her command seemed flawless, and her subordinates often praised her sharp intellect and peerless fighting skill. (On the inside, however, Zero was biding his time and realizing some things about himself. 🏳️‍⚧️)

-The pair’s friendship endured the tests of time. Near the war’s end, the two became romantically involved, with X finally confessing his feelings for Zero in a moment of respite. They got engaged not long after, and tied the knot the day after their rights to personhood and marriage were enshrined.

-As of now, the two are leading a peaceful life. X is an English and social studies teacher at Abel City Central High, and Zero is the chair of a non-profit organization that helps warbot-model reploids adjust to civilian life. They live in a quaint old house near the city centre.

Characters

-Rock Light: An 11-year-old household-model reploid boy and Roll’s twin sister. Dr. Light’s youngest son.

-Roll Light: An 11-year-old household-model reploid girl and Rock’s twin brother. Dr. Light’s only daughter.

-Bass Wily: A 10-year-old warbot-model reploid boy and Piano’s twin brother. Estranged from Dr. Wily, may rarely come home to visit Piano. Changed his name from Forte to Bass not long after his completion.

-Piano Wily: A 10-year-old warbot-model reploid girl and Bass’s twin sister. Still lives in Dr. Wily’s fortress, but prefers to avoid her father.

-Blues: A 15-year-old hybrid-model reploid and the older brother of Rock, Roll, Bass, and Piano.

-Dr. Thomas Light: A 65-year-old human roboticist and the proud father of X, Blues, Rock, and Roll. Estranged from Blues due to the power core incident, but is gradually gaining back his trust. Former friend and colleague of Dr. Wily.

-Dr. Albert Wily: A 62-year-old human roboticist and the proud(ish) father of Zero, Blues, Bass, and Piano. Cut off by all of his children except Piano due to his abusive and self-serving nature. Former friend and colleague of Dr. Light.

X: Dr. Light’s eldest and long-lost son. 28 years old and happily married to Zero, enjoying his newfound peace, and unaware of his origins.

Zero: Dr. Wily’s eldest and abandoned son. 27 years old and happily married to X, doesn’t give a shit about his origins, and is proudly and openly transgender.

I’m just thinking about this because to become journeymen either the player or the team is good but not good enough - ie not able to successfully build and maintain. I can definitely see Sid and Geno as first round picks who don’t manage to make it work on their drafting team but are nevertheless skilled enough to keep getting traded and signed. Kris obviously is a lower draft pick — 62OVA (which I think shakes out to early 3rd round) — and I can see him wandering a lot more than Sid and Geno, especially if the pens decide early on he’s replaceable in defense.

I think if the Pens don’t make it to the finals in 08 and win it in 09 I can see them tearing everything down and building again. Maybe not Sid (at first), but everyone else, yeah I can see it. I’m thinking the journeyman starts with a sort of clearing house that vibes-wise mimics edm murdering kidline (nuge-hall-ebs) to make room for mcdrai and the coming together (reunited and winning) has the vibes of Carts coming home to Ritchie w/ lak and winning it there. My brain wants to include Flower cause he’s kinda done the journeyman thing with his 4 teams.

Cody was about 6 (physically 12) when he and his batchmates started looking up Jedi they might be assigned to on the holonet, ostensibly gathering intel on preferred tactics and planning maneuvers that play to the different Jedi's strengths

Cody, of course, saw some footage of Obi-Wan, looks up his profile, and immediately said 'that one, he's it'

Wolffe told him that he's insane, that there's no way he can know who he'll be assigned to work with when the time comes, and also that Kenobi wouldn't care in the slightest anyway

Cody, of course, replied simply: 'Challenge Accepted'

he snagged Obi-Wan's space-email address and sets himself up as a penpal

again, Cody was Baby, but he'd already started training to write like a Commander of the GAR

Obi-Wan, for his part, was initially very confused about this stranger emailing him and their very confusing way of speaking, combining intense military jargon applied to all areas of life with very childlike topics and focus

then he concluded that this stranger is an older teenager, ie an 18 year old, who just graduated from a military academy and into service, looking for someone to talk to with shared life experience

and well, he'd been feeling a little isolated, spending most of his time with only an increasingly moody Anakin for company away on missions, so he responded, and continued responding

they became friends, and as Cody grew older, he definitely developed a bit of crush on the cute older guy who was giving him positive attention

he expressed this affection primarily through stronger exhortations for Obi-Wan to wear armor on his missions, and suffered a lot of teasing from his batchmates for blushing while checking his messages

when Obi-Wan was assigned to the Padme protection mission, he told his penpal just enough detail that Cody was able to figure out who it is Obi-Wan was after

and he had just seen Prime's ship landing...

so Cody messaged Obi-Wan back immediately, over voice for the first time, telling him to stay put on Coruscant because he had a lead to offer

then staged a minor coup, captured Jango, and brought him to Coruscant to present to Obi-Wan as a gift

Obi-Wan, meeting the seemingly-early-20's Cody in his armor, had all of his assumptions about his penpal apparently validated: clearly, the man he'd been talking to for the past four years was about 18 at the start, and had grown into a confident and attractive young man

so he decided to flirt a little

Cody had never been so tongue tied in his life

however, he managed to rally, focusing on handling off Jango as the suspect in Obi-Wan's investigation

Jango, of course, immediately refused to give away any useful information, only opening his mouth to call Cody a traitor, which gave Obi-Wan the further wrong impression about Cody and Jango's previous connection, suggesting that they were members of the same military organization (their armor looks Mandalorian? or Mandalorian inspired? Satine was always fretting about some terror cell or other, and the Journeyman Protectors on Concord Dawn did still wear armor he recalled)

Cody agreed to be taken out on a sort-of-date while Judicial started processing Jango, and they both had a great time and expressed a desire to continue this relationship

but then Sidious insisted on getting his plan back on track, the whole clone-army thing came to light right as the war started, and Cody turned to Obi-Wan and asked if he can be assigned to his battalion

Obi-Wan agreed despite his concerns about conflict of interest; after all, he's still assigned to work with his Padawan all the time

Cody was very smug at having finally fully proven Wolffe wrong

and then, of course, Obi-Wan heard about the double aging, did some hurried mental math, and had a completely different set of moral crises to fret over

I have a question, you already did a list of transformations for fairies, do witches have those types of levels or not? And do male magic user have a list of transformations like different types of wizards? Last thing could you talk about Daphne's fairy circle, the nymphs of magix like who they were powers planet likes and dislikes and how they died. Ps Love your ideas

Despite appearance, the division of Fairies&Witches and Wizards is not a gender based one.

Though female Heroes are more commonly seen, male Fairies&Witches, as well as female Wizards do still occur.

The division between the two classes is based on the type of magical power they wield. Fairies&Witches come from the same Origin and wield Thematic magic which makes them incomparably strong in their native 'elemental' fields, Wizards possess a high level of magic comparable to that of Fairies&Witches but lack the attachment to a specific Aspect of reality that give Fairies&Witches their unique epithets (ie. Fairy of Music, Witch of Storms, etc.)

Further, Wizards are a type of Active magical.

While all people of the Magical Dimension have an inherent level of magic, Active magicals are those who spell cast as natural as breathing. When untrained, Active magicals are more likely to have outburst of power when under extreme emotion stress, unless their powers are being restrained by outside influences.

Between the level of 'Inherently magical' and 'Actively magical' lies the 'Intuitively magical', those who have more than an inherent magic, but not enough to suffer magcial outbursts, they are comparable to Earth's psychics, deeply intuitive and empathic.

While Inherents cannot use magic of their own, and must use artefacts or prepared spells, Intuitives can use subtle magic though it takes long periods on intense focus. Intuitives are often drawn to craft based jobs, imbuing their work with low levels of magic that can later be manipulated for specific purposes.

Of the four classes of Active magicals, only three have names: Fairy, Witch and Wizard.

These are the classes who train beyond mere control, who learn more than a few basic spells and how to not explode with magic every time they get upset.

Having little to no external display of their power levels or training, Witches and Wizards have titles levels that are acknowledged between the various schools, and are earned by passing 'standard requirements'.

Wizard* Levels:

Initiate, Journeyman, Mage, Paladin, Sage, Sophon**

Witch Levels:

Initiate, Disciple, Sorceress, Striga, Lamia, Custosy**

Most students graduate their schools at Journeyman or Disciple levels, though some students like the Trix or Nabu of Andros readily achieve Mage/Sorceress before graduation.

(Though the classes of Active magicals are not divided by gender but presence or lack of Thematic magic, the high gender ratio causes many gender assigned terms within each class. While variations of the titles crop up, the term Sorcerer can mean either a male witch of sorceress level, or a male wizard of similar power, who has chosen to pursue darker magical pathways. Warlock is almost exclusively used for evil wizards.)

*Within the Class of Wizards there are many different schools who may specialise in specific areas and use unique titles in addition to the standard tiers, just as some planets have their own Wizard specific subcultures and identifying terms or traditions.

**It should be noted, that despite 'academic' opinions, both Wizards and Witches are capable of achieving Guardianship (the level of a Guardian Fairy), though it is very rare, and even rarer is it acknowledged by the general populace of the Magical Dimension.

Unlike Witches, whose origins in the Fairy class and their Thematic magic give them the ability to Manifest a basic Form, Wizards have no such ability.

Which is not to say that neither Witch nor Wizard can acquire Manifest forms.

Fairies themselves only have 3 Innate Forms, Forms which they can achieve by themselves no matter where they're from.

Gifted Forms, which are acquired by receiving Blessings or creating Bonds with specific Magical Creatures, can in theory be obtained by any Active Magical.

Who can what Cheat Sheet:

  *Fabula, World of Myth and Legend. Sister World to Mysemne, the World of Memory. While Mysemne is a world of history, and keeps factual historical records of the entire Magical Dimension, Fabula is home to the Story Keepers and the Legends and Myths of the Magical Dimension. Fabula is said to be the home of every work of Fiction in the Magical Dimension.

**Bloomix is an Ancient form that has born several names throughout history, Bloomix being the latest.

(The Astralix & Valdrix are pure Alt Con and do not exist in Canon. Likewise Clariel in the Alt Con is the Founder Fairy of Alfea.)

Regardless of what form Active magical can and cannot obtain, Fairies are the only ones who Manifest wings with their Form.

Merfairies are the exception to many of these rules, being a peculiar subsect of Fairy. Some classes, such as Paladin also occasionally possess wings, but these are created through magical study, and are not an inherent ability or Form like Fairy Wings.

Wizards who achieve a high Mage level can manifest magical armour which may appear like a transformation, but is constructed by the Wizard and is the result of intense study and preparation, rather than an innate ability like that of Fairies&Witches.

TLDR:

Wizards don't have Basic Forms, but they, like Witches can Theoretically obtain wingless versions of several (Gifted) “Fairy” Forms.

MAKING RUGBY LEAGUE GREAT AGAIN!!!

Without an injury-prone Tommy Turbo, a depleted Manly side travelled up the Pacific Hwy not only to be greeted by the Knights, but also confronted with less than ideal sloppy and wet conditions.

After an even and uninspiring opening stanza, Manly eventually opened the scoring after 25 minutes when replacement backrower Andrew Davey barged over courtesy of a deft Dylan Walker offload. 

The Sea Eagle doesn’t know much about the not so young Davey, other than he is the definition  of a rugby league journeyman, who has previously had a stint with the Eels. This is generally not the sort of CV that would support a first grade slot at Manly, however Davey did well to firstly receive the offload and secondly to plant it for a four pointer, so obviously he has managed to grasp a few important basics since venturing to the peninsula.

Manly extended their lead a few minutes later when Morgan Harper aka Ron Jeremy steamed onto a probing Cherry Baby grubber to score. Young Harper has been on the receiving end of some scathing Sea Eagle criticism in recent weeks and it was pleasing to see his response, delivering a fine all-round performance.

10 zip at oranges, a scoreline which not only summed up Manly’s first half dominance but highlighted the Knights attacking deficiencies. Without Tommy Turbo, Manly (rightly) adopted a fairly conservative but effective game plan – the Sea Eagle is unsure of what the Knights excuse was.

The second half started disastrously for Manly when Jason Saab failed to defuse a fairly routine high kick from the restart, gifting the Knights early field position. As with his vehicular namesake, young Saab is plagued with reliability issues and has real problems under the high ball. 

When the Turbo returns, positions on the Manly wing or backline will be hard to come by, as youngster Christian Tuipulotu had a strong game, and another youngster, Tolutau Koula is also sniffing around looking for an opportunity. Either Saab needs to rectify this problem asap or the Manly selection committee should adopt the recent recommendation provided by the Sea Eagle re: Morgan Harper (ie acquaint himself with the reserve grade coach at the first available opportunity).

Whilst the Knights did not initially capitalize on the Saab error, the extent of subsequent possession particularly on the back of multiple repeat sets saw them cross within 10 minutes via gun fullback, Kaylin Ponga. Special praise needs to go to Kaylin Ponga in this one. He is a seriously good rugby league player, and he was the only reason the Knights were competitive for as long as they were. If they lose him, jeepers, who knows what might become of them.

The majority of the second half degenerated into a mistake fest, particularly from Manly with errors galore. Manly’s ineptitude was highlighted by a Cherry Baby brain fade which saw him attempt a cross field kick (aimed at Saab) within his own quarter, only to find touch and again gift the Knights more attacking field position. Only a Knight’s error saved Manly and Cherry Baby from further embarrassment.

With 10 minutes remaining Manly were able to finally ice the game when replacement backrower Karl Lawton powered over from dummy half. A bit like his backrower cohort, Andrew Davey, Lawton is also somewhat of a journeyman, although there is nothing on record to suggest that he has ever played at the Eels – which is definitely an advantage.

It would be fair to say Manly’s big forwards got the job done in this fixture, in the end overpowering the somewhat smaller Knights pack in a steamrolling affair late in both halves. Special mention goes to Josh Aloiai, Haumole Olakau’atu and Jake Trbojevic who clearly dominated the Knights pack.

Despite a mountain of errors, Manly ended up running out comfortable 30-6 winners suggesting no Tommy Turbo – no problem, at least against any team placed 7th or lower on the table. Manly’s depth off the bench provided plenty of attacking penetration and with the return in coming weeks of Josh Schuster and eventually Tommy Turbo they are on an upward trajectory. That said, the Knights are certifiably useless and have virtually nothing to offer in terms of attack. Based on this performance they could well be challenging the Tigers and Dogs for the Spoon in season 2022.

Many Contrarian Fund

The Sea Eagle thought he was on a winner with emerging bookie BetRight, adopting the Jack Gibsonism, winning starts Monday, and backing the Knights at $2.60 on Monday as the market opened. When the Turbo was ruled out of the Manly line up mid-week, the Knights firmed to $1.80 favourites, leading the Sea Eagle to think he had made a heady investment decision.

Regrettably it came unstuck, with the Knights, who usually against Manly at Newcastle are hard to beat (let alone with Manly having no Turbo), and yet offering absolutely zero in terms of resistance.

As at Rd 5 the Manly Contrarian Fund stands at negative 200% and with Manly on a 60% win/loss ratio. As they say, wagering can see you lose all your money, so gamble responsibly. The Sea Eagle will need to put the cue in the rack for a while, and wait until Manly play away where the home team is at ridiculously long odds, and hopefully at a ground where Manly have a poor record.

There are 2 realistic possibilities that immediately come to mind, Shark Park, and Wollongong Showground aka Illawarra Stadium (if Manly play there this year). There may be others, but time will tell.

Haas And Kelly At The Mercy Of Integrity Unit Following Drunken Brawl - SEN Media 3 April 2022

Brisbane Broncos teammates Payne Haas and Albert Kelly have found themselves in hot water after footage emerged of them allegedly drunkenly fighting.

The incident is believed to have occurred after one of the pair stepped on the other’s shoes, with Haas hitting and pushing Kelly after he was grabbed by the neck.

The Broncos are no strangers to their players fighting each other. Let’s not forget the off season and the Mad Monday debacle when on September 14th, 2021 the Courier Mail first reported that Thomas Flegler and Jordan Riki clashed during the club’s post-season celebrations.

The pair were apparently engaged in an “innocent” wrestling session before Riki began skylarking, angering Flegler.

Riki was left “bloodied” according to the Courier Mail and required stitches.

So like #1 I don't disagree w/ ur point broadly i want to make that entirely clear up front I'm more pointing out that there is a nuanced conversation to be had around her character, I agree that she gets a shit hand most of the time in fandom spaces bc of oftentimes just. blatant misogyny. I'm putting this under a read more bc. it's long.

With that said, though: with regards to Concord Dawn, I would go ahead and say that the extra tangential canon of star wars rebels has come back around to say that, yes, the people from Concord Dawn and more specifically the Journeyman Protectors, which Jaster and Jango were in legends ofc and in that legends material weren't Mandos have become mandos. I don't actually care for much of legends and KT in particular I loathe with great fervor for her openly fascist viewpoints and baldfaced misogyny.

I take the "the Journeyman protectors of concord dawn are mandalorians" explicitly from star wars rebels + the Kanan comics. Fenn Rau is a mandalorian who was involved in the clone wars, he is from Concord Dawn, he is a Protector. Concord Dawn has been in the Mandalorian system since it was conquered by Mandalorians, at this point in the star wars canon / legends that was hundreds if not thousands of years ago. Concord Dawn in Rebels is shown as this planet that was devastated by Mandalorian civil wars to the point that it is half a planet. People from Concord Dawn, by all rights, then, should be considered Mandalorian, that they aren't betrays the underpinning of my particular issues, that those who chose violent careers ie bounty hunters were considered threats to her society. And we can have discussions wrt how to take Rebels but imo it should take precedence over legends material at the very least, and it is legends material that suggests that those from Concord Dawn aren't mandalorian. We know 3 named people from the system, a bounty hunter, a bounty hunter wearing Mandalorian armor, and one Mandalorian. Sabine explains that the people on Concord Dawn are mandalorians, and we are left with two named individuals from Concord Dawn who are both bounty hunters, one of whom is explicitly (by Almec, yes) called not a Mandalorian in spite of him being for all intents and purposes a Mandalorian, and yes that relies upon legends, but it was somewhat recanonized in The Mandalorian as Boba tells Din that the armor is his by right, as Jango Fett was his father, and Jango Fett was a foundling. We already know that they have exiled a good number of their citizens and revoked their citizenship, is it hard to extrapolate that out to say that bounty hunters were also potentially exiled? I don't think it is. It is an extrapolation of canon, but a rather reasonable one.

With that stated, in the canon clone wars, it's explicitly stated that swaths of the population were exiled and had their citizenship revoked, sending them to Concordia and declaring they are not Mandalorian. In exiling them to Concordia, she is explicitly removing their ability to call themselves Mandalorian. Considering that Mandalorian is both a state and a religion, that is saying "You are no longer Mandalorian." It is definitionally an act of violence, expulsion from your own identity. It is an act of violence that is perhaps the only rational thing to do, but just because it is rational and because it is reasonable does not mean that there aren't consequences for that decision and does not remove the word violence from the equation. Star wars is great in that the actors within it behave like real world actors do, by and large, and there are no consequence free decisions. It may have been the most just thing for her to do but that does not negate that it was in itself an act of state violence. Much as with the real world, what powers you grant the state to enact upon the wicked can be used to oppress the innocent and we should not give the state the power to do things that we would not want done to us.

Speaking again specifically of Rebels, at least some fanon has no doubt been drawn from the way that a young, teenaged Sabine interpreted and understood the actions of Satine through the lens of her Death Watch embedded mother. She calls a weapon meant to destroy Mandalorians by attacking their armor The Duchess. To what degree this is propaganda surrounding Satine in-universe is unknown. I've always taken the idea that it's not directed to the New mando movement as a whole because of Alrich Wren, who appears to be a New Mando by the way he refuses to fight and Sabine describes him as fighting with his words and with diplomacy. Which, again, sort of hints at this underbelly narrative wrt Mandalorians.

Re what violence I find acceptable in public, the answer is none, hence my hedging comments about a lot of the feelings around violence come from a meta narrative understanding of star wars. It is difficult to extract the situation on Mandalore from what is about to happen to the galaxy; ie as Satine is demilitarizing Mandalore because of their historical civil wars and the way it has ravaged their system at the same time as individuals like Tarkin are militarizing Eriadu and other outer rim systems with a mind to fascism and ascending to power. Much in the same way as "come meet me in the middle, says the unjust man," there is no meaningful way to overcome fascist takeover without violence.

That's not satine's fault, though, hence why I noted that in my original notes. It's the audience perspective that she has no way of being privy to. Things she would know about though are the militarization efforts of the Trade Federation, the Commerce Guild, those things she would know as head of state.

The Mandalorian Guard were a police force on Mandalore, the Mandalore Protectors were Satine's private royal guard. The databank entries for both of them on the star wars page indicate that they're a tradition on Mandalore preserved for the goal of protecting the state. With that in mind, what she is effectively stating is that the only justifiable violence is the violence enacted by the state. Hence why I call it "pro-cop." If the only individuals who have justified use of force are cops (and we see them use force, we're explained explicitly that they are an ancient tradition preserved), that is pro-cop. Satine even tells them that they're the only ones she can trust to investigate certain matters (TCW; Corruption), she supported it as an institution she could use, and it is that exact set of circumstances that allows them to become corrupt in the ways we see in the show. Showing my cards, I don't think that the state should have the go-ahead to be the only justified use of force. State violence should be limited to the absolute minimum, but that isn't what's going on here. Instead we see that she has said that other "traditional" jobs of violence are not legitimate, the ones that protect the power of the state are, setting up an inherent unequal system of hard power.

An issue I have with your refutation is the conceit that these are issues that cannot be solved with welfare or other forms of social intervention, because iirc I don't think that's ever brought up in the canon. The methods that we see Satine / the Mandalorian state deal with bad actors are prison and exile. I'm an abolitionist, and it is reflective of the critiques that GL was levying against the US and other such IRL liberal entities that for all our idealism we cannot separate ourselves from the idea of justice involving the prison system. It is one of the very few reoccurring places that we see on Mandalore, the only other distinct location we revisit in multiple episodes is the throne room. We even see an explicitly canonically innocent woman (in fact, satine!) thrown into that same prison so that the state (Almec, in this instance) can strong arm her into doing what they want her to.

More what i meant IRT capitalism and the injustices of the galaxy were not the clone wars but rather, again, in reference to Mandalore itself. the reason why Almec and various Mandalorian officials did what they did was because corporations had leveraged their power in the space of the planet of Mandalore. Almec and the cops betrayed Mandalore because of the inherent power imbalance between them and the corporate alliance, on Mandalore.

As for the unfair distribution of wealth and power, that's again got nothing to do with the clone wars, but is in fact about the pyramid society established on Mandalore that Satine benefits from. She is a member of the nobility, she is the Duchess, in much of the imagery we see in TCW she is talking down to people who are fighting for others. The image of her sitting upon a tower above Obi-Wan amongst republic senators is one that lives in my head rent free, and was no doubt explicit imagery in the show.

None of this is saying that Satine is a bad person, btw, but rather it is more complicated than just trying to rationalize it as just.

Sharing an old project based on an Ice Aged Greece to help focus the concepts here.

Believe it or not coloration is the greatest imagination grabber of all. It focuses the scene to provide the setting. Shape comes second. Lumpy, rounded, square, flat, twisted, gnarled, fuzzy, oval, squat, sloped, angular, and circular all give distinctive impressions of how something looks. On Thursday December 18th, 2020, the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-24 in Overtime...

This is a very good tweet by S.V.P. here and I agree wholeheartedly. He wrote this during the 4th quarter of Chargers-Raiders as both coaches/teams were doing their best to try and lose the football game.

This really sums up why I love the sport, though. The stakes couldn't have been higher. I had Herbert/Ekeler in the first round of my fantasy playoffs; my opponent had Waller on the side. Less importantly, the Raiders were in a must-win spot to keep their playoff hopes alive. I hedged the fantasy implications (in a sense) by betting on Las Vegas -3, but also felt strongly going in that that was the winning side to wager on.

LA were one of the few teams I hadn't watched a full game of yet this season. Oh, I'd heard the tales though: the Legend of Lynne and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I was aware. And that final quarter (and honestly, the entire game) did no disappoint. If you left that contest with one takeaway, how could not be that the Chargers are a competent coach away from being KC 2.0? Cuz hooboy Herbert is every bit as good as Lynne is bad and they have a fleet of skill guys who are either sneaky good or made to look that way because of their quarterback's laser focused rocket arm. They attempted just one pass in the fourth quarter.

To call the play-calling inept would be insult to both the ideas of plays and the genesis of their creation. I had no rooting interest in this game aside from the above fantasy implications and my wager (I also made two losing prop bets—see “Sidebar” below), but because of their dueling nature and the inherent frustration of watching these coaches (mostly Lynne), it really did take on the feeling of modern art. I'm seeing what I want to see. I'm pretty sure it isn't good but I love it. The pleasure and the pain.

Adding to the game's overall VIBES was the fact that Derek Carr groined up his groin on a futile third and goal scramble during the opening drive. He returned in street clothes to watch one Marcus Mariota do a pretty damn good Carr impression or maybe an impression of 2016 Marcus Mariota?

I countered this (also very good) tweet by offering up Doug Flutie as the comparison. My case, in brief: both players were/are...

Highly touted college QBs who mostly but not fully flamed out upon arrival in the pros (Flutie by default; choosing the doomed USFL and then the CFL over the NFL to start. And Mariota by flopping as a high pick in the draft, but not in the Ryan Leaf sense; more like in the David Carr tradition, or so it seemed?)

Expert scramblers / solid runners who can chuck it down field when they have to, to varying degrees of success 

Who knows what the future holds for Mariota. Will he have an aesthetically pleasing if not consistently victorious, nomadic second act like the Fluties and Fitzgeralds (Fitzmagic has had maybe nine acts at this point lol), or was last night's brutal loss a one-and-done? I'm rooting for the former but who the heck knows.

And as for that brutal loss, my God was it brutal. Two late missed field goals by Los Angeles 'set up' by, perhaps, the misguided notion that it is easier to kick said field goals if you're team gets FURTHER away from the goalposts, then 'sets up' the Raiders with their own opportunity to charger things away and they do just that by taking one minute to go fifteen yards and attempt the longest field goal in NFL history only to have a bad snap and head to overtime where they win the coin toss and drain a ton of clock to kick a chip shot for the very precarious lead but then again this is the Chargers we're talking about so I’m sure they’re fine...

But then again, the Chargers have Justin Herbert.

Even at the very end, they tried to squander it away. A pass interference sets up first and goal at the one and in comes journeyman/castaway RB Kalen Ballage who already has stolen one TD away from countless needy fantasy players (ie, me). He gets stuffed. The next play is a QB sneak -> fumble into the back of the end zone recovered by an LA offensive lineman! Oh but you can't do that! It's the Kenny Stabler rule! Third and goal. What do you dial up now? How ‘bout a second QB sneak of course. And against all odds, it works. Herbert willed it to be so, extending the ball away from his body and over the goal line despite the fact that that same move just a minute earlier resulted in a nervous breakdown fumble. This is the (charger) way. I get some much needed FF points from Herbert as my bet goes into the toilet. The yin and yang of football, the beauty of football, never better encapsulated when it’s this damn ugly... in a dumb, structurally bad Thursday night game.

I could go on and on here still. There's so much I feel I didn't mention (like the fact that Gruden wore an OAKLAND Raiders hat for most of the first half and the fact that you could see his nipples from his way-too-tight shirt) but I'll leave it at this. Y’all can have your 47-42 Monday night “classic” between two actually good teams; give me this shit all day.

Thank you, football. In one of the weirdest and worst years ever, you showed up (even if you probably shouldn't have), and I'll be forever grateful for the distraction :)

Prop Bets Frustration Sidebar

I’m not sure if the Chargers were attempting to shenanigans or if their injury treatment/assessment skills are as bad as their game management (they did stab Tyrod Taylor in the lung), but for MOST of the day leading up to this one, it appeared like both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams weren’t gonna play. They both did, however, and they were both clearly hobbled. I’m not sure what the plan was here but it, like so many things that LAC does, failed miserably.

Speaking of failing miserably, this “news” led me to make 2 player prop bets on the games.

#1 Tyron Johnson OVER 3.5 receptions (+125). The upstart #3 or #4 WR had been coming on strong and if both Herbert’s first wideout two options might be sidelined? Sign me up, baby. This prop bet looked as GOLDEN as they get, as Johnson had 3 catches including a long TD by half-time. He did not catch another ball :/

#2 Carr > Herbert passing yards (+100). Again, this was a MUST-WIN for the Raiders. With their RB Jacobs a bit banged up and the aforementioned missing weapons for Herbert, I thought there was a decent chance he’d end up with more yards especially if the game remained relatively close. Well, we know how this one ended... Groiny groin, groin-groin, and such. A comical way to lose any prop bet is when said player starts the game and then almost immediately leaves for good, clutching his crotch en route to the locker room.

Oh well. I love it so damn much I’m not even mad.

Job Summary

Plan, lay-out, weld, install, and repair all types of structural steel products or metal components in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes and industry standards utilizing a variety of hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Use appropriate hand (ie wrap around, files) and power tools (ie cutting torch) to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld and install all types of structural steel components; install supports, valves and other control equipment; test installed systems and install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications; must be familiar with properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage and welding techniques; bolts, clamps or other welding related equipment; weld components according to specific process and code; and install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications

Weld components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions

Clamp hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding . Must be able to set up machine including safely running lines and be able to adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained

Knowledge of operation of welding equipment electrodes, fluxes and shielded gases and welding processes

Welds on site must pass quality audits on a continuous basis

How teenage rejection led much-loved journeyman to become a Crystal Palace icon

While some Crystal Palace fans might tell you that their five-year stay in the Premier League has felt like twice as long – it has been an emotional ride full of ups and downs – the Eagles are now a fully established top-flight club and the squad they’ve got is proof of that.

None of this might have been possible though, if not for that memorable 2012/13 Championship season in which Palace won the play-offs and thus secured promotion to the Premier League.

Kevin Phillips scored the winner over Watford in the final and thus went down in the Palace history books. Despite having only made 21 appearances for the Eagles, the hitman is a hero.

However, it might not have all been possible if he hadn’t suffered early rejection in his Southampton academy days. The retired striker spoke to Palace’s official website about how he almost became a defender instead:

“I got offered apprenticeship forms at Southampton as a striker. However, when I went in to their full-time training every day, I was still quite small.

“The manager at the time, Dave Marrington, looked at me and basically said to me: ‘listen, until you develop, we have bigger and stronger players in that area at the moment. We can see you’ve got technical ability, we can see you can score a goal but for your development physically, how would you like to have a go at playing in defence, ie: right-back?’

“It wasn’t the greatest of news I wanted to hear but at the end of the day it got me in the team week in, week out. I wanted to play up front but I went in as a right full-back for virtually two years as an apprentice.”
