I do wanna say tho that people should probably not get their hopes up about this turning into a Sonic movie situation.
Granted my understanding of the industry isn’t as in depth as someone who is an actual animator at a place like Illumination, but from what I know with Sonic all they had to do was re-do Sonic’s model and animation. It’s a lot of work, but that was only one thing that needed changing. They were, as far as I know, able to use everything else they’d already made(live action footage, practical effects, voice lines, ect.) as it was, they just had to change Sonic’s animation.
With the Mario movie, they would not only have to re-record ALL of the voice lines for Mario, which he’s the main character so that would take a really fucking long time(remember, in the Direct they said that they’d only just wrapped all of the voice work, and they announced the cast a YEAR ago) they would also have to redo all of Mario’s animation, because animation is based on the existing voice work, not the other way around. And not just lip flaps, a lot of the character’s body language/movement is based in part on the voice work, so they would have to basically reanimate Mario entirely. That would take ages and be insanely hard and very involved. Def would take a massive delay and cause a lot of crunch time.
(Not to mention that whatever actor is replacing Pratt would probably have to put their current projects on hold/back out of them to make time to do the new voice work, or just work their ass off to get it all done. This isn’t as easy as you’d think. Recording all of the lines for a main character of a full movie isn’t something you can just knock out in a weekend. Not if you want it to be good anyway.)
Sure, they could TRY to get a new actor to just dub over Pratt’s lines, but if you’ve seen dubbed 3D animation it’s always a little off, and Nintendo clearly really wants this project to be PERFECT. Plus, then the new voice actor wouldn’t have the freedom to act as well as they could otherwise. Not to say dubbed performances are all bad or the actors can’t do a good job with those constraints, actors who do dubs are amazing and deserve respect, but the new actor would HAVE to follow all of the body language and lip-flaps that were based on Pratt’s lines, and thus would be stuck giving a performance pretty close to Pratt’s to make sure it fit, and if all of Pratt’s stuff is really flat, well then they have to come across as flat too.
And if they, at any point, got more than one actor in the studio at a time to get more natural dialogue then the performance of anyone who was bouncing off of Pratt’s work is probably gonna look off too, and that’s even more stuff to fix.
So like, please don’t get your hopes up on this one. We don’t have a Sonic situation on our hands. It would take a fucking miracle to get them to change the movie so fundamentally this close to release. As much as it sucks ass we are probably just going to have to live with Chris Pratt’s shitty Mario and just pray that everything else about the film is good enough to make up for it.

Ignoring for a moment that everyone dislikes Chris Pratt, ignoring for a moment that it would’ve been amazing to see an actor in the role specifically from the voice acting industry (because the entire movie is a cast of screen actors so if you call HIM out for it you can’t ignore the fact that Jack Black and Charlie Day and Seth Rogen and basically everyone else involved is known for their SCREEN acting not their VOICE acting)…ignoring that, for the moment. What is it about the two sentences he had in the trailer that has people immediately hating his performance in a movie that isn’t even out yet? Is it that people think it’s actually bad, or is it just the current trend to hate every bit of news we get about Chris Pratt in relation to this movie? (And no I’m not mocking, I’m legitimately trying to understand. I’m honestly asking.)
Is it because you don’t think Pratt’s voice works for the Mario you envision? Fair enough. But in that case you should be calling out the casting director who chose him for the role. Actors for all these animated roles - including Jack Black, who I think everyone agrees is legendary for Bowser - are contacted because of the way they sound. True, based on the cast we have, there’s some level of notoriety at play here too, we can’t ignore that. But there are plenty of other big name actors who could have been chosen. They weren’t picked.
Or maybe do you hate it because Mario has a Brooklyn accent? Is it because he’s not using the stereotypical Italian we hear in the games? People claim Chris Pratt “didn’t even try” but…he IS clearly using a specific accent in the trailer, and he doesn’t even have final say in what the character is meant to sound like. If that’s your problem, then you should be dissing the director and the folks in charge of the movie because it would have been THEIR call to have Mario and Luigi talk like that. In the voice acting industry, actors may have some freedom in their performance, but there IS someone in the room instructing you on what it is the role requires and what it is they want you to do in front of the mic.
(Voice actress here. I may not be in the big leagues like some actors are but I know how the industry works. Bigger actors may have more sway but they’re still being paid to do the job that the company they’re working for gave them. If the role asks for an accent, well, by Jove, you’re doing an accent.)
And if you ARE salty about the Brooklyn accent because it’s “not canon accurate”…this isn’t even the first time we’ve seen the Mario Bros portrayed with that dialect. I mean their origins are that they were in construction first and became plumbers later, and in a lot of non-video-game Mario media, both Mario and Luigi grew up in Brooklyn. For anyone who doesn’t know about it, go watch Film Theory’s video about the new movie and how old canon might tie in. His theory may not end up being 100% accurate but by god does he make some excellent points.
Anyway, I’m not saying you have to like Chris Pratt, of course not. I’m just saying not everything comes down to just him, and you can’t judge a film based on two sentences from a trailer. If you don’t trust him then try to trust that Illuminations and Nintendo know what they’re doing. Nintendo has always been a perfectionist for how their characters are being portrayed ever since the old Mario Bros movie was a complete train wreck. Trust that they’re going to do the Mushroom Kingdom justice in the new one.
EDIT: To clarify, I’m not trying to change anyone’s opinion on the trailer! I don’t have much of an opinion either way, I’m just excited for the movie as a whole. But I’m also just really curious about the reasoning behind why folks either like or dislike certain vocal performances. I made this post for curiosity’s sake and so I could see the trailer from other people’s perspectives :) So feel free to share your own breakdown of it! Let’s just try to keep the replies friendly ^^

this is a very venty post don't mind me :D
that nintendo direct was so horrible.
it was literally like 80 percent remakes and remasters.
never in my life have i seen an announcement video exist just to say "every game you've ever known since the 90s is being remade/remastered, sorry, we ran out of originality".
literally like all the video game market is anymore is remakes and the movie industry is just as bad.
the nso releases are fine because they're not like, remakes taking up full game slots. they're old games that are being made accessible and that's great... but there's no need to remake this many games when they can do that. remakes used to be rare. remember stuff like the wii u shop and stuff? with all the games they had on those things? now it's a tiny selection and everything else is a remake :/
also I feel like a lot of new rpgs are just like... lowkey fe knockoffs now instead of original rpgs.
i'm happy for like... two existing remakes, but one of them is mario rpg which people wanted waaaaAAAAAYYYY before the remake and remaster era, and the other is baten kaitos which im not actually happy about remaster-wise (the updated ui is trash, they took out very specific charms of the original ui), just happy that it will get more recognition/notice from people since it was never popular.
they also completely removed the english voice acting which like okay yeah it wasn't always that great but the voices fit perfectly and it wasn't as bad as fans meme on it for! it just sounded like they were talking through a tube and that was actually the worst part of it lol.
someone suggested to me that they may have just lost the data for it, but idk. i wish they'd just admit that somehow if it was the case, because it bugs me that the english audio is just completely gone when ultimately i really liked it. i wanted the game to be accessible to newer players, sure, but i also wanted the english audio there. ig that's because i grew up with it and i liked it, but it's still such a bummer for me!
paper mario being put on the nso and tyd getting a whole remaster does make me sad tho bc it feels like they're leaving the original in the dust when it was so good. if you're gonna do tyd, at least do them both.
good for innersloth though, i'm sure they never imagined being on a nintendo direct. they're the real winners here.
#DCB Comments#the FE fandom is just as bad too. every single solitary direct that comes up they're like#OMG FE4 REMAKE. like ??? I used to be just annoyed but#now I'm just feeling the “shut the actual fuck up” mood bc it's ALL they care about for FE anymore#nobody wants new FE games. they're just obsessed with the idea of remakes#it's more annoying bc it's all the majority of the FE fandom talks abt anymore#also does anyone even know if games on the NSO ever get a remake or if originals of remakes go onto NSO?#wondering bc I don't think I've seen a game on NSO get a remake or vice versa#like I was always wondering if Mario RPG would be on the NSO but it never was and now it has a remake coming#since FE4 6 and 7 are on the NSO I can't see why they would be if remakes were coming#also if they're in the process of making a new console do y'all still think they'll release Gamecube on the NSO?#idk if they'd release PoR on it since they'd prob remaster that one (I don't want a remake for it but remaster might be nice if they#update the map graphics and stuff) since it would net them way more money to release the game as a standalone but if they#did put it on NSO I'd really love that. I get up I play PoR. I lay down I PoR. I go in the car I play PoR (I don't drive lol)#but anyway yeah I'm just tired of every single Direct having FE fans being annoying as fuck#also ppl were apparently legit like omg the new banner coming means fe4 remake will be on the direct#oh my goooooddddd stfu at this point I just don't want it remade bc i am 💅 p e t t y 💅 bc ppl are so annoying abt this#when a leak for a new game came out (engage) from a very reputable source ppl knocked it and called it ''obviously fake''#(the joke is now not just ON them but IS them) but then when they got a ''leak'' abt an fe4 remake they ate it up#like wow lol. wow. they won't believe anything unless you say fe4 remake then suddenly they believe anything you say abt that alone#it's rly sad that my favorite game has become a cesspool of annoying fe fans#the thing is fe doesn't come out with a whole lot of remakes. it never has#it's just that when gaiden got a remake ppl have NOT shut the fuck up ever since#and I've seen ppl saying every game under the sun should be remade#frankly if they remake anything right now it should be poor fucking shadow dragon (yes. the remake.)#anyway most of y'all know how annoyed i get abt this lol like yeah maybe someday fe4 could get remade but#it's the fact that the modern day fans are SO fucking annoying about it now. back ten or so years ago fe4 fans were just happy TO play it#we were just happy to have it at all even in emulated form and it being an snes game#we loved it as it was and didn't bitch about it bc it wasn't uwu modern enough (and i've played casual mode since new mystery)#now ppl are just like oh i like it but i don't want to play it unless it's remade

I saw the Mario movie yesterday and honestly it was really good! I give it like an 8/10.
Unfortunately I missed the first couple minutes or so of the movie because the theater was lined up with people, so it took a bit to actually get in haha. My friends and I all went dressed as Mario/Luigi too, which was awesome.
(spoilers under the cut)
tl;dr the Mario is very good and I want to see more
I was kind of expecting Chris Pratt's Mario to be not great, but surprisingly Fred Armisen's Cranky Kong was even worse. The only voice in the movie where I was like "wow this really doesn't fit." Now that I've seen the full movie rather than just the trailers I can tell that Chris Pratt at least tried. I still think that someone else probably would have fit better, but he wasn't horrible. Like even Charlie Day as Luigi and Seth Rogen as DK were pretty much just their regular voices, they still kinda fit somehow. Keagan-Michael Key's Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson's Kamek were spot on. Anya Taylor-Joy's Peach was serviceable—she sounds like a girl. And Jack Black's Bowser was freaking amazing. If I could tweak it a little bit to be pitched down slightly and maybe more growly then I think it would've been absolutely perfect, but as is I think he did a fantastic job. Charles Martinet as Giuseppe (basically Mario's design as Jump Man from the original Donkey Kong arcade game) was so great, and casting him as the Mario Bros' dad was a great choice.
The score was brilliantly done, the direction of having Koji Kondo as a composing consultant was an excellent choice, wouldn't have had it any other way. While I figured at least one pop song to show up, I think five has more than I was more than I was expecting. I'm not exactly bothered by it, but it was very noticeable haha. Also I wasn't expecting (yet not surprised) by the full on musical number that Bowser did performed by Jack Black. It was great lol, well done and got me to laugh. Also the DK rap was a welcome surprise, although Grant Kirkhope went uncredited which kinda sucks. Plus all the sound effects were great too.
The story wasn't intricate, and I keep hearing this as a complaint, but it's a Super Mario Bros. movie so idk what people were expecting on that front. It was a really fun ride from start to finish and I actually already want to watch it again. It's a great kid's movie and all the details, references, and easter eggs they put in for the fans of the series are greatly appreciated too. I wasn't expecting them to show so much of the Mario Bros' family or Peach's origins (which is to say not much, but I wasn't expecting any at all. And I also wasn't expecting them to show where the blue shells come from, so that's neat. I'm mildly disappointed at how large a chunk of the movie Luigi was captured. I understand they wanted someone to get captured because that's kind of Bowser's thing and they probably wanted Peach to shine on her own and do girl boss things, but I'm just disappointed that he was in a cage for like most of the movie.
The animation was also really well done if you were worried about that. I've seen some critics complain about that, but it almost feels like they watched a different movie as far as that point goes. The lighting was spectacular, the screen was almost always packed with detail, and the characters were expressive.
One last tiny gripe: Hearing the koopas being referred to as turtles more than once felt off to me. I know this complaint is such a nerdy one, but Nintendo has always gone out of their way to specifically call them koopas and not turtles. I usually only ever hear people call them turtles when it's someone who only vaguely knows about Mario. Having Mario call them turtles kinda makes sense since he's from Brooklyn transported to the Mushroom Kingdom, but Peach and even Bowser himself referred to them as turtles which was weird to me.

the mario movie was so cute 😭
I hate to admit it, and it doesn't mean I don't still dislike and criticize his actions, but crisp rat wasn't terrible. Still would've preferred someone else, but you get used to the voice after a while and it's not distracting or as awful as feared. maybe Nintendo's micromanage-y influence?
Mario is actually written as a very sweet, likable character, which I'm so happy about, but it's frustrating this could've been such a perfect portrayal of the character if it wasn't held down by all the baggage of who they casted.
Peach is so cute too. They don't do the thing I hate with Peach, which is in trying to make the girl character strong they make her mean, and she's still the sweet femme Princess I enjoy from the games, just also a fighter. As she should be.
I thought it was really clever that instead of love interests, Peach and Mario are just genuinely two people becoming friends, and it's everyone around them making assumptions about them liking each other. Their interactions are sweet.
I am entirely biased but Luigi was flawless and adorable and perfect and deserved so much more screen time.
But for real tho he's not super present after he's taken prisoner until the very end. He's precious tho and it's super sweet how much he and Mario care about each other. Their hug when they reunite is so stinking cute ahhh. Precious babies.
Bowser was hilarious. What an absolute dork. A homicidal dork, but a dork all the same. Legendary doofus. A+
Seth Rogan DK was Seth Rogan DK. I'm not as familiar with Donkey Kong lore or anything, or what he's supposed to be like as opposed to this (namely, a jackass). It worked for the movie I guess?
Over all the movie knew what is was trying to be, a simple story about charming characters in a fantasy world. Just trying to be fun and I liked it.
Oh and I saw that post credit scene. Since we're already referencing Super Show could we get Mama Luigi part 2 lol? That'd be so funny please Nintendo?

So I watched the mario movie and here are my thoughts. I really fucking loved the movie and was a lot better than anticipated. Some stuff I wasnt a huge fan of but like, it's still just more of a kids movie. I loved I thought it was really enjoyable, but felt a bit rushed at parts and at some points it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Overall I had a great time and am probably going to rewatch it for all the details and Easter eggs.
More detailed thoughts under the cut, spoiler warning!
The trailer
Some things in the movie were noticeably different from the trailers that we had seen. Some scenes and lines were different. What I noticed is the things that the trailers received backlash on were either changed or fully removed, like Chris Pratt's voice at some points. Like the "wahoo" he does in the trailer is different, it was a lot better executed in the movie. And some lines like the "let's a go" that people hated were fully removed. I think it's p obvious why these things got changed.
The voices:
Okay so, Chris Pratt is a bad actor and a terrible voice actor, but I'm going to be very honest with you all, it's horrible at first but after like 5 minutes you get used to and don't notice it anymore. He doesn't sound like himself too much, bit of an accent twinge which is already a lot more than I expected tbh. It's fine, but at some moments you are horribly reminded that picking Chris Pratt was not a good choice.
Jack Black was amazing as bowser, though I felt like his voice could have been a bit lower and a bit more grovelly.
I'm personally not a big fan of anna taylor joy, and I really don't think her voice fitted peach. Like with peach I'm more used to her high pitched and I feel like Anna's voice was too low. Too "" basic white girlie"" idk how else to explain it.
Charlie Day as Luigi was fine, though I felt like he could have been more Luigi-er. Like it would've been amazing with just a biiiit more effort.
Some of the voices for the characters just.. Didn't fit to me. Like cranky kong or that one toad with the really low voice.
Seth Rogen as DK was surprisingly great! And yes, he did do the laugh!
Easter eggs, details and small bits:
Omg there were so many cool Easter eggs and details referring to like Nintendo stuff and Mario's history like wrecking crew, jumpman, punch out, duck hunt etc. And the scenes were filmed with SO much detail holy shit! I am so going to rewatch it so I can spot everything bit by bit.
I really liked some references to like the DK song and everything. For someone who like grew up with mario it was soo cool!
Some stuff I didn't quite like:
One thing i didnt like is how small the roles were for like luigi, Pauline and foreman spike. The way spike was announced made me thing that he had a bigger role in the mario origins but nah he was in like 3 scenes and that's it. But disappointed. And once again they did my boy luigi dirty, like he didnt really have a lot of screentime. I get you can't do much when you're Captured but also like come on man... And Pauline only had like.. 1 line. I expected a bit more of that.
Some stuff or scenes didn't really make sense to me, like the whole dog fighting scene and adding Mario's family,,, like?? I don't get it. I also thought the jumpman at the arcade was related to mario as a small nod the way donkey and cranky kong are father and son but making him a random stranger felt weird?? And suddenly giving the bros a full family also just... Felt wrong!
Some small stuff I did like:
Also personally am not a fan of the 'bowser wants to marry peach' plot that some of the games and now the movie uses
One hand I liked how many references to the games they made but on the other hand it felt like they wanted to reference everything in a very short amount of time? Felt a bit too much or rushed at some point but I still appreciated it. Like the little bloopers were so cute!!
Mario calling luigi lou is adorable! And the toads were cute af too!
And they way they turned iconic mario songs into like cinematic tuned was great!
The jokes were funny, but you gotta keep in mind that it's a movie rated for everyone including kids right.
I love! The personality that they gave donkey Kong, it's different from what I know about him, but I'm glad they didn't make him into a brainless smash monkey lol.
Overall, it really wasn't as bad as people were going to say it was. Yes, it could have been a lot better, but it also could have been a lot worse. I really enjoyed and was so excited and pimped, and still am, after seeing it. It was great!
I might have forgotten to add something and if I did it'll be in a separate post.

Any particular reason why Illumination/Nintendo haven’t asked Charles Martinet (you know, the fucking voice of MARIO) to voice him in the MARIO movie?

Possesive!Larry x reader
i said it would be out tomorrow but i’m god so it’s here now haha
let me know if you would like me to make one with gender neutral pronouns
word count: 2593
she/her pronouns
Warnings: smut, alcohol, possesive behaviour, sal x reader kiss,
You had been dating Larry for a while now, he’s your first boyfriend and you couldn’t be happier with him. He always comes to your work during your breaks and even sits down at a table and orders drinks while he waits you to finish your shift, so there he sat now looking at you so tenderly it made your heart race. He had been here for around 2 hours, ordering various drinks while switching between watching you and going on his phone, the only thing you worried about was how long he had been waiting for you, and that you still had another hour ‘till knock off. So, you continued serving tables and taking orders, making sure he was okay when you could to which he’d reply “I love you enough to wait” with a squeeze of your arm, it didn’t really answer the question but nothing stopped him from leaving so it stayed like that until you finished and as you took of the apron which the restaurant made you wear you felt a pair of arms around your waist and a face nestling into your neck, you laughed. Spinning around to face him and peck his cheek. “I don’t like you talking to all those guys” he pouted “why can’t you just stay with me” he finished the sentence with a kiss to your head and you had never felt more loved.
“I would love to stay with you, Larry, but I have to work so I can pay rent” you smiled, setting down the apron, taking his hand in yours and lightly squeezing it. “lets go, love”
You and Larry walked back to the apartments, hand in hand, until you reached his room. Flopping down on the bed he opened his arms for you to come cuddle him, you happily obliged settling between his legs, your head on his chest as you listened to his heart, his hand made its way to your hair tugging on some strands as he brushed through it with his fingers. “I’ve seen all of you and your flaws ,I still love all of you so much” he said into your hair “I don’t think many others would”
The sentence sat wrongly in your stomach, you couldn’t tell why though. He was right. Not many people would love you flaws and all. So in response you lifted your head, pressed a kiss to his lips
“I know” you said lips still so close you could feel his breath.
The two of you laid like that for hours before Larry spoke again. “Sal invited me over for a movie tomorrow, I want you to come too seems its your day off. I hate when we’re apart” you agreed to go and before you knew it you were asleep, nestled closely to Larry.
The next day you and Larry were at Sal, Todd and Neil’s place snacks in hand, Larry’s arm was around your waist as you waited for Sal to answer the door. Todd and Neil were out for a date for the day so Sal had the place to himself. The front door opened revealing Sal, his hair down and mask on but with the lower straps unbuckled to allow him to eat, he stepped back allowing you and Larry through the door. “hey guys, good to see you” you couldn’t se his face but you assumed he was smiling by the way his mask moved upward. You walked inside Larry’s hand on your waist felt much tighter now.
“yeah dude, wouldn’t miss watching a horror movie with you man” Larry said while making himself comfortable on the couch in front of the tv, snacks discarded on the coffee table, the horror you were about to be watching was sitting beside them , ‘Scream’ it had been released earlier this year but you had never gotten around to seeing it. Sal came over sitting beside Larry, putting himself in the middle, you sat beside him turning to look at Larry he looked a little annoyed.
“you alright, love?” you asked, trying to make sure he was alright.
“come here” he said his voice was soft but far too stern, your eyebrows perked up as you got up going to stand in front of him awkwardly, he grabbed your hands a little too hard as he pulled you into his lap. You were shocked as he wrapped his arms around you caging you in, his chin resting on your shoulder.
“how’s your day been dude” Larry asked Sal, Sal seemed just as surprised as you were, his ears were red. He was probably embarrassed to be sitting right next to Larry as that happened.
“uh, uhm, alright I guess” he said, grabbing the movie and putting it into the DVD player. “are you guys going to that party on Saturday?”
“I mean I would like to..” You looked to Larry, you wanted to go but wouldn’t go if he wasn’t coming.
Larry obviously got the hint as he said “Yeah, it’d be cool to see everyone” and that was the end of the conversation. You each settled in, getting comfortable as Sal pressed play on the movie
The movie was great and you all ended up more comfortable at the end of it, despit the multiple scares you had.
“oh yeah! Sal you just got the Nintendo 64, right?” you said, you nearly completely forgot to ask, you had heard Larry mention it briefly and you wanted to see if Sal would let you come over so you and him could play together sometime.
“yeah, I did, why? You wanna play sometime?” he asked
“omg, yes please! I was gifted Mario Cart but I haven’t been able to play it yet” you pouted and Sal laughed “but yeah I’d love to play it together if that chill with you?” you hardly noticed Larry grip tightening around your hips as you talked.
“yeah, that’d be awesome! Come ‘round whenever, you’re always welcome” you smiled at the words and he rubbed the back his neck; that’s when Larry started lightly biting the sweet spot on your neck, your back arched and you had to clamp a hand over your mouth to stop any sounds. Your face was hot and you felt far too embarrassed to stay in the room.
“i-I-I I’m just gonna quickly go to the bath-bathroom” your words struggled to come out smoothly due to the embarrassment. You quickly rushed to the bathroom; hands braced against the bathroom sink as you tried to calm down. Once your face was no longer burning and your heart and breathing were steady once more you stood up as straight as you could and walked out hearing the hushed whispers of Sal and Larry, they were fighting. You didn’t wanna intrude but it was hard not to let curiosity beat you.
“dude, I don’t like her what the fuck, I would never do that” it was Sal
“why were you eye-fucking her since we walked through the door then” Larry was angrier than you had heard him before.
“I wasn’t, dude, I don’t know what’s going on but you can’t just embarrass a girl like that, she looked ready to cry before”
“so you do like her?”
“what! NO!” they weren’t whispering and you decided to make them stop by heading back to te bathroom and yelling back to them.
“you guys aright out there?” Larry was the one who answered
“yeah babe but I think we should get going now, I forgot that my mum asked me to help out with putting up a shelf”
“okay then” you walked back out to them, smiling, they couldn’t know that you had heard them. Sal was refusing to even look at you, you held onto Larry’s arm “thanks so much, for inviting us we had a lot of fun, right babe?” you tugged softly on Larry’s arm.
“yeah, sure” he rubbed his neck with his free hand and looked anywhere but at Sal.
“it was no problem, thanks for coming” you felt bad for leaving with Larry while they were on such bad terms but there wasn’t much else you could do. The entire walk back to the apartments Larry was pouty, stealing kisses when he could. As you got back he went to Lisa reluctantly following through with his lie to leave Sal’s. it was only an hour before he was back with you in his room listening to Sanity falls and acting like nothing was wrong.
You could hear the music and see the flashing lights of the party from a few houses away, you and Larry walked hand in hand, He squeezed three times ‘i.love.you’ you smiled squeezing back. It was a comfortable silence around you two, you had already talked about your days’ and what you planned to do tomorrow and your plans to move in together once you’d saved up enough money. It was nice, knowing you weren’t going to have to face all the new adult stuff you had to do now you were 20 and fully out of school, alone. As the party came into view you could see most people were already wasted, red cups littered across the lawn along with steamers and someone’s pants. You laughed at the sight; it was a bigger party than you had originally expected but you had no doubt you would at least know most the people there considering how small Nockfell was.
The music was some upbeat pop band and the house was smelt like beer and sweaty bodies. People were dancing and you and Larry had to force yourself through the crowd, it took a while but you eventually found the gang, even ash was there. You hugged each of them, complimented ash on her new hair and you all fell into conversation but the tension between Sal and Larry was obvious. Larry stopped you from drinking saying that he just wants you to be sober and that the alcohol isn’t good for you even as he made his way through his own drinks and after two hours the gang -minus Todd and Neil who had disappeared into a random bedroom earlier- and some kids you went to school with were in a game of spin the bottle. Larry and Sal sat opposite you and ash was a couple people away so far neither you, Larry or Sal had had to kiss anyone and it was soon Sals turn, he leaned forward spinning the bottle, it spun around quickly but a few seconds later it slowed. Landing on you.
The tension in the air was thick and you expected Sal to spin again, but he looked between you and Larry, once and then again; and just like that he was in front of you a hand to your cheek, he lifted his mask enough for his lips to show; you could feel him shaking through the hand on your cheek, your heart was hammering and you were to shocked to do anything but sit and desperately hope he was joking, but his lips brushed yours and then he pressed a soft kiss to you lips.
Larry had stood up, pushing Sal out of the way and grabbing your wrist tightly enough to bruise, he dragged you through the crowd of people and kicked people out of the bathroom before pushing you in and locking the door behind himself.
“Larry? I’m so sorry I was too shocked to move and i-“you were against the wall, Larry’s hands beside your head. He kissed you. It was burning, different to before, he was burning, and you would burn with him. His tongue was in your mouth exploring ever crevice of you, his knee rubbing between your legs
“can i?” despite the alcohol and anger, he cared enough to ask. You nodded
Pushed against the bathroom wall, the heat between your legs growing hotter as Larry licked a line up your neck stopping just before your ear where he softly bit your earlobe, you bucked your hips up to him trying to get any friction against your core. He chuckled in your ear his voice deep and arousing, it sent shivers down your spine as he started sucking and biting at your neck while he trailed one hand down your chest to the waist of your pants. You wrapped your arms around his neck, a hand through his hair softly tugging at strands, he groaned as he trailed his hand down further; you could feel his fingers through the fabric of your pants and desperately tried to get him to touch you more.
“such a needy little thing…” he whispered into your ear before removing your pants, he lifted your leg, holding it just under the underside of your knee. “up”. You happily obliged jumping up, wrapping your legs around his waist as he caught your other leg pressing you harder against the wall to keep you up.
You could feel his length through his jeans and you grinded against it moaning softly as you did. “fuck” his hand slid upward to your inner thigh just below where you need him.
“tell me how much you need me” he growled, and the dark look in his eyes wasn’t like any expression you’d seen him make before. It was hot. So hot. Your arousal was dripping between your legs, you needed him like he was some form of drug and you loved it.
“I need you” you panted “so bad, Larry, please fuck me” you rolled your hips against his to emphasize and just like that something snapped in Larry. Within a couple movement his pants and boxers were at his ankles and his erection ready to enter your dripping sex, pre-cum leaked through the slit and tip was a gorgeous red. You stoked it lightly and Larry’s head tipped back, a moan echoing through the bathroom. His grip on your hips tightened and he positioned himself at your entrance, he rested his head on your shoulder.
“mine, mine, mine, mine, mine” with each word he started thrusting into you, your head hit the wall and you couldn’t hold back the chorus of moans that escaped you, his name fell off your lips like a prayer and he only went harder as you got louder.
His finger circled your clit, his mouth leaving hickeys across your chest. Your tears stained your cheeks at the overstimulation he was giving you. “every time I see you talk to someone, I wanna kill them. You’re mine, mine!” he hit your g-spot with each word, your fingers clawed down his back leaving marks. The knot that had developed in your abdomen was ready to burst and as your eyes rolled back you were no longer capable of words, only senseless babbles.
“I love you, I’d die without you” he moaned, as you came around his dick; And seconds later he was shooting his load inside you. He didn’t slow down though, and as you grasped onto his shoulders panting from your orgasm you realized he would continue fucking you until you couldn’t move.
“Larry” you pressed your forehead to his, your lips brushing softly despite how hard he was slamming himself into you “I love you, I’m not leaving” a tear slipped from his eye landing on your chest. You knew why he was acting this way, he was scared you’d disappear, leave, like his dad and he would try and do everything in his power to make sure that you didn’t.

See, I've seen a lot of people, when talking about the whole Chris Pratt Mario situation, say that obviously they had to replace Charles Martinet with a different actor. Sure, yeah, Charles has been voicing Mario AND Luigi AND Wario AND Waluigi AND a multitude of other voices in the series since the early 90s, but he only records a few lines per game, there's no way he could record two hours worth of dialogue in his Mario voice. And this reasoning is just beyond stupid to me! It literally does not make any sense at all!
I've had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Martinet before. He comes to anime and pop culture conventions in my state fairly often. I've heard him, in person, tell the story of how he got the part of Mario back in 1990. He crashed the audition. He heard about the audition from someone else and decided at the last minute to show up unannounced and ask if he could read for the part. They said "sure" and told him he was going to be an Italian plumber from Brooklyn New York. So he came up with a voice on the spot for Mario (meaning it had to be something that was fairly easy for him to do, that he didn't need a lot of prep or practice for) and just talked. He just talked and talked and talked. He talked for five or ten minutes and then paused and asked the people he was auditioning for if they wanted him to stop. They said "no, this is great, keep going!" So he kept talking, and he talked for so long in his Mario voice that they ran out of film for their camera. And he was the only person who had auditioned that day that could do that! He was the only person who could talk long enough during the audition that they felt good about it! They literally called Nintendo HQ while he was still in the building and gave him the job immediately!
This is a story he likes to tell a lot. It's on his wikipedia page. There are videos of him telling this story at conventions and interviews and whatnot. Look it up.
Now, naysayers may also say "But oh, that was 30 years ago, there's no way he could sustain his voice for that long I mean imagine the toll it must take on his vocal chords." And THAT baffles me even more because what the hell do you think a VOICE ACTOR is??? You think the MARIO voice is a strain on the vocal chords? What about Donald Duck? Donald Duck's original voice actor Clarence Nash voiced the character for 51 YEARS. His current voice actor, Tony Anselmo, has been voicing him since 1985 (and I've met him too, by the way. He autographed my Ducktales box set!). That's what voice actors DO. They train their voices, learn how to take care of them, so that they can keep voicing their beloved characters for 50+ years. And especially when it comes to someone like Donald Duck, or Porky Pig, or Mario, their original voice actor brings so much of their personality and character to life. Most voice actors who have been around that long, voicing the same character for that long, get a lot of say in what happens to the character--what is seen as being "in character" versus totally unbelievable. And they take so much damn pride in their work.
So yeah, to not have even considered Charles Martinet for the character whose voice he originated is literally nothing but disrespect and the stupidest choice they could have made for the movie, especially casting not even another voice actor but CRISP RAT, and that's a hill I'll happily die on.

Nintendo Direct thoughts 😎
Love the updated look of Yoshi’s Tropical Island, it’s cool to see N64 boards not being completely flat (let’s just hope Toadette and Bowser won’t be swapping spots every five seconds like in the original lol)
Tumblr media
And Bowser kicking Toadette’s little stand thing is funny – there seems to be a lot of personality to the animations in this game and I’m loving that
I was hoping for Western Land because that’s my mum’s favourite board, but it wasn’t meant to be 😔 I’m still very happy with what we’ve got (It’d be cool if there was DLC later on though!! There probably won’t be, but it’s not completely impossible!)
It’s SO COOL to finally see a 3D Kirby game!!! I’m really happy that HAL ended up finding a way to make 3D Kirby work, they experimented with it a bit with Blowout Blast and now we’ll get to see that evolved into a full game! And I think this is the first time they’ve had copy abilities in 3D?? Rolling around with Needle looks really fun, and I’m sure all the abilities will be super fun in 3D
I love the recent Kirby games, but I was hoping that they’d go a completely different direction for the next one, just to spice it up a bit, and I sure got that wish!!
I love the setting as well – a super colourful post-apocalyptic type of thing... Perfect for Kirby, while also having some unique settings you normally wouldn’t see in a Kirby game! At first glance I actually thought it was Mario Kart, because the escalators reminded me of Coconut Mall lol. We don’t typically have Kirby exploring these sorts of abandoned buildings!
I wonder if it’ll have something to do with Shiver Star... 🤔 We all know how Kirby loves its lore, as well making deep cuts in its references to previous games, so I wouldn’t be surprised! Even if it’s just a reference in a pause screen description!
The setting really reminds me of Planet Robobot, but kind of the opposite? Instead of a natural place being mechanised, it’s a industrialised sort of place being abandoned and overrun by nature... I’m sure the antagonists of the game are gonna be really really interesting, whoever they may be
Now I’ve got two things I’m immensely looking forward to in Autumn next year (Spring for northern hemisphere): Moominvalley season 3, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land... it’s gonna be a good good time for me lol 😄
Brewster, baby!!! Just goes to show that you gotta be patient sometimes lol, people were complaining about the lack of Brewster in ACNH for ages
I’m glad ACNH is still getting updates, there was kind of a drought of updates there for a while, I’m excited to see what other big updates the game gets!
Ninji in Mario Golf...... I love it
And a snow course!!! I remember being a bit disappointed when you couldn’t play the snowy holes of Bowser Highlands from the story mode in regular gameplay, it’s always just the lava version. This isn’t those same Bowser holes (...😳), but I’m still happy!
Will someone play N64 Mario Tennis and/or Golf with me online 👀👉👈 I actually didn’t play much Mario Golf N64 as a kid (unlike Toadstool Tour), but I played SHITLOADS of Mario Tennis N64 (along with Power Tennis)
And now, the elephant in the room
I don’t know shit about celebrities, but those Mario movie casting choices seem... interesting 🤔 I understand that Charles Martinet’s not gonna be cast in a main role in a huge Hollywood movie, but still, it’s kinda sad because I literally can’t imagine anyone else voicing Mario (assuming that he’s an animated cartoon character and not live-action)
I’m willing to give these actors a chance though – maybe they’ll actually do a good, if very different from what we’re used to, job (As far as I can tell, Mario’s the main one that people have significant issue with)
It does kinda annoy me when big celebrities are cast in animated movies/shows over voice actors (not that it’s always bad – not to bring up Moomin again lol but I’d say that Moominvalley is an example of doing it right) But when it’s done wrong, it just seems like they care more about the marketability of the movie than actually making it as good as possible
And finally, I’ve never played a Bayonetta game, but it’s one of those series that I just appreciate from the sidelines, so I was still very happy to see it show up at the end there
Bayonetta is an icon of our times and I love her (even if I don’t know much about her)
All in all, a pretty incredible Direct! Lots of great stuff! Though I may be biased due to Kirby lol

scaredy cats

requested by bea (🌱✨anon) tysm bby!! i’m sorry this took so long, i made it a lil longer to make up for it :>
prompt: “uh...did the power just go out?”
*part of my 2 years with luna event!
word count: 2.2k
genre: fluff, high school au, childhood friends to lovers
pairing: lee chan x gn reader
warnings: there’s a thunderstorm and the power goes out!
[you: channieeeee pls come over~]
[chan: y??]
[you: do u rlly need a reason lmao i just wanna see my bestie]
[chan: it’s raining thoooooo]
[you: so? use an umbrella it ain’t a far walk]
[chan: okok i’ll come hang out]
[chan: i’m gonna kick ur ass at super mario party tho]
[you: in your dreams ;) see u soon bby!!]
slipping your phone into your pocket, you roll off your bed and excitedly rush to your front window, pulling the blinds aside so you can have a better view of the street outside. chan wasn’t kidding, it’s raining alright—heavy torrents of rain pour from the sky, and the clouds look a bit too dark for your liking. you bite your lip guiltily, feeling a little bad that chan’s walking here in this weather. at least he only lives a block over, you think to make yourself feel better.
chan’s been your best friend ever since he accidentally hit you in the face with a frisbee way back when you were just ten years old. your nose started bleeding, and chan panicked and tried to comfort you as he went with you to get cleaned up. even when the school nurse tried to send him back outside, he refused to leave until he knew you were okay. you tease him about this all the time, laughing at how overdramatic he was (”it was just a little nose bleed, chan” “okay but you were crying!!”) but you’re grateful for it, as you probably wouldn’t have become friends otherwise.
you smile to yourself as you think back fondly on the memories of your childhood with chan; it won’t be long till you’re both graduating high school, and it’s hard to believe it’s been so many years since that fateful frisbee incident. you can’t help but nervously wonder what the future will bring for you and chan, but you push those thoughts aside when you see a figure running down the street trying to cover his head as he sprints through the puddles. he slows down as he reaches your house, jogging up to your front door. not even giving him the chance to knock, you open the door for chan and usher him inside quickly.
“it’s a little wet out there,” he comments sarcastically, and a distant clap of thunder echoes through the sky as if to emphasize his point. you quickly shut the door and lock it, as if that’ll do something to keep the storm at bay.
“yeah, no kidding, you’re dripping all over the floor,” you comment. chan pulls of his drenched shoes and opens his mouth to say something but you cut him off before he can start.
“i’ll go get you some dry clothes, stay here so you don’t get the entire house wet,” you tell him as you rush to your room to search for something chan can wear. you find a couple of his sweaters lying around, one he forgot here just last week and the other one from god knows when. you decide to keep the more recent one and give chan the older one along with a pair of your sweatpants and some warm socks.
“here, catch,” you say as you throw the clothes towards chan, who’s now standing in a large puddle in your doorway. he’s caught off guard, and the clothes hit him square in the face.
“hey!!! i come all the way over here through a thunderstorm to see you just because you’re bored, and this is the thanks i get?” chan complains as he makes his way to your room to get changed.
“oh come on, i know you were just as bored as i was,” you tease, and chan can’t help but smile when you call him out.
“you got me,” he responds before slipping into your room and closing the door behind him. you proceed to hook up your nintendo switch to the tv, preparing for a night of video games and maybe a movie or two. as you connect the cables, you hear your bedroom door open and chan’s soft footsteps as he goes to throw his clothes in the dryer. he returns to the living room, flopping onto the couch and grabbing a controller.
“what do you want for dinner? my parents are away for the weekend so there’s frozen pizza or….some sort of leftovers i think?” you ask chan, making your way to the kitchen.
“you’re not gonna cook for me?” chan teases, knowing you sometimes struggle to make toast. you give him a look before digging the pizza out of the freezer. you preheat the oven and place the pizza on a tray.
“don’t forget to take the plastic off!” chan calls from the couch.
“i know, chan,” you say, but you’re glad he reminded you; that was a close one.
-
two hours and a slightly overcooked frozen pizza later, you and chan are yelling at the screen as your characters pummel each other in a heated round of super smash bros. it’s still heavily raining, but the sounds of the tv drown out the steady drumming on the roof and the increasingly loud and frequent thunder. the two of you hardly notice the flashes of lightning in the now-dark sky as you focus on the tv. you’re just about to smash chan’s character to oblivion when all of a sudden everything is pitch black and a blanket of dead silence washes over the house, save for the rain on the roof.
“uh...did the power just go out?” chan asks, the two of you sitting frozen on the couch. you turn your head to look at him, although there’s really no point--you can’t see anything.
“hm, yeah i think it did,” you say. you’re trying to tease him, but you can’t hide the fear wavering in your voice.
“where are you?” chan asks, voice equally fearful, and you reach out to feel for his outstretched hands in the dark. you find them, and the two of you grab onto each other and pull each other close. the room feels so empty without the bright lights from the tv and the chaotic yelling over the sounds of the game onscreen. now, there’s only the rain, louder than ever, although you swear you can hear your heartbeat out loud.
“i think we have some candles in the basement,” you whisper.
“noooooope, you’re crazy if you think i’m going down there; it’s scary even when the lights are on,” chan replies and you feel him shake his head. “what about that scented candle i gave you for your birthday?”
“ooh, good call! it’s in my room,” you remember. “let’s go,” you say, pulling out your phone to use as a flashlight. lightning outside lights up the room for a moment, and not too long after there’s a loud clap of thunder. both you and chan let out a small shriek, feeling your grips on each other tighten. now, is your heart beating from fear of the dark and stormy night? or from the way chan holds onto you for dear life? probably a mix of both, but you choose not to think about that right now.
“ok we’ll go on three, ready?” you say, waiting for chan’s response. you’re met with silence. “chan?”
“oh sorry, i forgot you can’t see me nodding. on three,” he confirms
“okay, one, two...three!” you count. on three, you pull chan off the couch and the two of you race hand in hand to your bedroom, guided by the bright light of your phone flashlight. you hesitantly let go of chan’s hand as you search for your candle and some matches. it doesn’t take too long to find them, and soon enough a flickering orange flame casts a faint flow around your room. you and chan climb onto your bed, you sitting up against the headboard and chan lying with his head in your lap. there’s enough light that you can now see each other’s silhouettes at least, and you look down to watch as the flame casts shadows that seem to dance across chan’s face. when did he grow up so much? you find yourself thinking, feeling like it was just yesterday the two of you were a couple of snot-nosed kids running around at recess. your fingers absentmindedly play with his hair as you’re lost in thought.
“this is kind of spooky, we should tell ghost stories!” chan suggests.
“or we could just talk and not scare ourselves into staying awake all night,” you reply.
“good idea,” he agrees, but neither of you say anything. you lie there in silence for a moment; the rain sounds a bit less violent from inside your room, and now that you can see a bit you find it’s quite a peaceful sound.
“mingyu asked me out today,” you tell chan. you’re not quite sure what possessed you to just tell him that out of the blue; you weren’t even planning on telling chan at all, but now you’ve gone and said it and you can’t take it back.
“really?? that’s great, y/n! when’s the date?”
you’re a bit disheartened at chan’s reaction; he seems genuinely excited for you, unless the shock is just masking his true feelings for now,
“i said no.”
“what?? why??? i thought you liked him?” chan sits up at this, his head now even with yours as he looks at you in shock.
“not anymore,” you say with a shrug. your voice is quiet, unsure of where this conversation will head.
“oh,” is all chan says. “is there...any particular reason?” he asks after a beat of silence. there’s something more in his voice now that wasn’t there before.
“i just don’t think he’s really my type,” you explain without elaborating.
“well, what is your type if not mingyu? he’s kind, smart, beautiful, tall...he’s got it all! i mean, you’ve had a crush on him for like, a year, and he finally asked you out and you said no?” chan says in mild disbelief.
“don’t get me wrong, mingyu’s a great guy and all, but i just-i think i realized i have feelings for someone else,” you say, voice trailing off to barely a whisper.
“really?? who is it?” chan asks all-too-eagerly, and you start to feel doubtful he likes you back.
“it’s no one.”
“awe y/n, don’t be like that! at least give me hints?” chan asks.
“fine,” you sigh, knowing he won’t leave it alone. “first of all, he’s annoying and loud,”
“that doesn’t sound like a crus-”
“do you want me to give you hints or not?”
“...yes please,”
“ok then shh. he’s annoying and loud, but it’s perfect because i am too so we get along really well. he’s also the most caring person i’ve ever met; i know he’d do anything for me if i asked him,” you continue, not sure how much you want to give away.
“wow, he sounds really great!” chan comments. to any other person, he’d sound excited for you, but you know him well enough to pick up on the slight disappointment in his voice, and it’s just the boost you need to keep going.
“he is; he’d even go out in a thunderstorm for me just because i said i’m bored,” you say and you turn to look at chan now. it’s too dark to read his expression, but you can see how he leans ever so closer to you.
“now that’s some dedication, i mean he sounds flawless,” chan teases. you can hear the smile in his voice, which makes the butterflies in your stomach go wild.
“the only problem is i’m not sure if he likes me back,” you whisper, your nose brushing the tip of chan’s, and before you know it his lips are on yours in a passionate yet gentle kiss. how you’ve gone so long without kissing chan you don’t know; the years of secret feelings all finally set free in this one kiss.
you didn’t lie about liking mingyu--you had actually thought you might’ve finally gotten over your feelings for chan and found someone else. for a couple of months it worked, and you found yourself distracted with thoughts of the tall boy instead of your best friend. but it all came crashing down when you caught the common cold the other week, and chan looked after you while you were sick--he even skipped class one day to make sure you weren’t lonely. all of your true feelings came rushing back to you, and you knew there were no hopes of losing them.
“what about now?” chan asks as he pulls away just enough to talk.
“i’m still not sure, he might have to kiss me again to convince me,” you say, unable to contain your smile. chan kisses you again, and it’s just as magical as the first time. a loud crack of thunder startles you, and you gasp as you latch onto chan, burying your face in his shoulder.
“you’re such a scaredy-cat,” he says, bringing his arms up to pull you closer.
“shut up so are you, i can hear your heart racing,” your voice is muffled by his sweater.
“maybe that’s just because of you,” he comments, stroking your hair.
“ew,” you reply, but your heart’s not in it; you can pretend to hate how cheesy chan is all you want, but internally you love it just as much as you love every other aspect of him.

dewey finn x fem reader
heyyooo, so imma do a little 3 part (?) dewey finn x reader series here about bringing Dewey home to meet family! it’s gonna be fluffy, a little angsty and majority of it will be based on my actual life and family, because they are something else lmao.. let me know if you enjoy! (also! I’m still working on your guys requests!
I got inspired for this from @texasblues because I honestly loved your fic so so so much and wanted to do my own little twist💜
warnings: fluff? the tiniest bit of angst?
words: 1600
Tumblr media
Dewey chuckled when you pulled the covers over your head to block the sunlight and groaned. “Baby come on, it’ll be fun!” He chimed, his thick, sleepy morning voice was enough to send shivers down your spine. You peeled the cover off to reveal only your eyes, raising your brows at him. “You don’t know my parents” you matter of factly stated.
His arm snaked around your waist and pulled you on top of his chest. He was so warm. “Yeah but it would be good for you to go home for some time...” his hand moved up and brushed the hair away from your face. You rested your chin on his chest, looking up into his eyes and his sticky morning face, then up to that birds nest he called hair. “Home is wherever I’m with you” you smirked, reaching up to ruffle his brown curls, eliciting a little laugh from your sweet rockstar. His hand rubbed up and down your back soothingly and you could feel the way he chuckled below you. It was nice.
“No... going home home is different, and I know you miss it” he lifted an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth quirked up. “I’ll think about it... it’s a long journey Dew..” you bit the inside of your lip. You did want to go home.. but home was exceptionally different from life here.
“Yeah but we can have so much fun on the plane! We can play the switch, we can watch movies.. it’d be awesome!” Dewey was all excited, you could here it in his voice. “And we can go in August, when the schools are off and I have summer vacation, and you have tons of holidays left to take!” He exclaimed, trying to get his point across to you. You smiled at his enthusiasm as you rested your head in your hand. Dewey’s hand came up and ran his fingers through your hair as he smiled at you.
“Dew... life over there is totally different from life here.. and the people are different, different humour, different accent..” you huffed out an amused breathe thinking about him trying to understand everyone.
“If they’re anything like you then I’m gonna love them” he chuckled as he rolled his eyes at you still trying to make up excuses.
“And you can show me all around, your school, places you used to go... it would be awesome! And I’d get to meet that family you always talk about” he moved to rest his hands under his head, relaxing.
“If I go home then 80% of the time will be spent with my family you know” you chuckled. You were super close with your family. And some size family it was. They meant everything to you, and you missed them so much.. but they were certainly an acquired taste.
You grinned at the thought of Dewey getting to meet them all. If he loved your humour, then he would certainly love theirs. You could show him the beach, and all the places you grew up and take him to all of your favourite places. Maybe it would be fun?
Dewey watched as your face morphed into a grin, and he knew what that meant. “Yeah?” He beamed.
“Okay yeah” you smiled, biting your lip. “Hell yeah! Now, stop biting your lip and start biting mine!” He flirted, rolling you over so he way laying on top of you, making you laugh. You pulled his head down to yours, laying a soft yet needy kiss in his lips. “Ok rockstar.. but your in for a shock let me tell you... my accent has severely dulled the past two years and it’ll kick back in as soon as the plane lands on the ground.. and it doesn’t sound like it does on the tv” you warned.
“Yeah yeah, I’ll be fine... plus, it’ll be kinda cool to see where the Young brothers were born.. OOO and to see the Loch Ness monster! and I gotta see a highland cow when I’m there or I’ll probably die...”
You rolled your eyes, this was gonna be fun...
 * * * * * *
“Dewey… just pack the jacket” you sighed. Packing with him was hard. Dewey couldn’t get it into his head that he wasn’t going upstate to sunshine and shorts. Scotland was cold, even in august.
“Honey, I do not need a jacket I’ll be fine!” he (attempted) to fold his Def Leppard t-shirt, placing it in the suitcase sat in front of him.
You breathed in deeply, your eyes shutting, teeth gritted, trying to remain calm. This was all last minute. You and Dewey left for Scotland tomorrow, and had only booked it last month. It was all a surprise from your amazing rockstar, and you cried so many happy tears, but right now… you felt like the most stressed person on the planet.
Your eyes remained closed. “Dewey… pack the fucking jacket.. it’s going to be 22c max…” our hands were gripping the edge of the suitcase, remaining in control. Dewey’s eyes wandered over to you, and his eyes widened and his eyebrows furrowed. “okay.. okay” he looked from side to side, confused to why you were to stressed.
You sighed again, aggressively packing the rest of your clothes. His eyes kept wandering over to yours, until he had finished packing his t shirts.
“hey…” he walked around to you, taking your hand in his and pulling you to face him. “hey.. what’s wrong baby? this is supposed to be fun? Not stressful…” his eyes searched your face worriedly. Your eyes met his and you bit your lip as you looked into those caring, bright eyes. His thumbs rubbed the back of your hands soothingly.
You spoke hesitantly. “well.. this is the first time you’ll be meeting my family… and I want you to love them… what if you hate them? or hate home?...” you started rambling… “and we leave tomorrow… at 8AM… and you don’t get that its going to be freezing, and I just miss my family so much…”
“hey, hey, hey slow down baby” he cut you off as you caught your breath a little. “its going to be fine… you’re gonna be back with them in no time.. and I’m going to love it… and them.. I promise…” he looked down at you, smiling. You smiled back a little.. everything would be fine…
“and don’t worry… the damn jacket is in the case” he chuckled, pulling you into him and kissing your forehead.
Your family meant everything to you.. and you loved every bone in Dewey’s body.. and you truly hoped they would too… but you were worried that if you visited home… you might never want to go back to your life in New York with Dewey…
 * * * * * *
Your anxiety didn’t stop there. The entire way to the airport, security, flying – it was all making you feel a little off. But your sweet Dewey was there to keep you from drowning in your own wicked head.
Dewey Finn was easily excitable, bouncy and he couldn’t sit still. Keeping such a ball of energy in a small confined space for almost 8 hours was a challenge.
He would bring his hand up to his face as if he was talking into a walkie talkie; “crshhh.. this is your captain speaking… this plane is indeed going to crash unless my super hot girlfriend shows me her-“ you cut him off giggling.
“Dewey! People can hear you” you hit his chest lightly a little. He giggled, putting his lips close to your ear, “what, you don’t wanna join the mile high club with me?”. He said it so dark, and it made you excited. “you wish… get lost you dork” you scoffed, looking out at the rolling clouds, your stomach doing a little flip.
You had gotten lost in the book you had brought with you, Dewey was humming to himself, his fingers dancing on your thigh, tapping to the beat of the song in his head, you always found it soothing.. but apparently not everyone did…
“hey pal, knock off the damn humming will ya?” the grumpy old man grumbled from the seat behind Dewey. The smile that grew on Dewey’s face was comedic, the edges of his lips curling up like a cartoon. His eyes widened before moving to look at you, and yours at his, when he suddenly burst out laughing.
Your eyes grew at him laughing, audibly so they guy behind could hear him. You gave Dewey a stern look, trying not to laugh too much at his antics, and brought your hand up to lightly pinch his cheek. He quietened down a little, grinning at you. He was like a little kid.
He brought his head closer to yours, “who took a dump in his coco pops?” he chuckled, making you smile and roll your eyes. Only five hours left. Reaching into your travel bag you reached for the Nintendo switch.
“fancy getting beat at mario kart?” you teased, hopefully occupying him for an hour or so. “pfft you wish… you know I’m the world best at mario kart babe…but maybe I’ll let you win a round” he winked at you as he took the blue controller.
Your eyes glanced over at Dewey mid game.. you admired his little concentrated face; his nose slightly scrunched, eyebrows furrowed, his tongue peeking out and resting at the side of his top lip, and his floppy hair covering his eye the slightest bit before his fore arm came up and moved it from his face.
You loved him so much… and you didn’t know what you would do without him… dewould be okay.. it was gonna be fine…
“sooo, is someone going to play bagpipes for us when we step off the plane?” he chirped, you rolled your eyes. Its gonna be a long three weeks…

Is there the full list of brandersons favourite games reposted somewhere?
i dont think so? or not that ive seen. u can literally just sign up for the newsletter on his website but screw it ill just post them for u. it sure was a TRIP scrolling past these to get to the interlude though. undertale is on this list.....im shakign at the thought that adolin was based off ff10 tidus but i cant get it out of my head now
#10: Katamari Damaci
I love things that make me look at the world in a new way. Katamari did this in spades. It is an imaginative, bizarre vision with unique gameplay. It is like nothing else in the world and I love it for all its strangeness and occasional lack of gameplay polish.
I was transfixed the first time I played it, and have looked forward to it being remade and rereleased on multiple different consoles. I love the cute—and somehow creepy at the same time—storyline. It feels like a fever dream more than a game sometimes, and is probably the closest I’ll ever get to understanding what it’s like to do drugs.
#9: Undertale
This is an oddball on this list because I think it’s the only game that is not a franchise from a major studio—but is instead an indie game, which I believe was originally funded on Kickstarter.I loved how this felt like a novel as much as a game. It was one person’s vision; a single story told really well, with a huge amount of personality. The humor was just my kind of wonderful/terrible, and I was instantly enamored with the characters. That probably would have been enough, but it is a nice deconstruction of video games as a medium—and has not one, but multiple innovative gameplay mechanics. Together, the package left me enamored. This is a work of genius that I feel everyone should at least try, even if it ends up not being for them.
#8: Fallout: New Vegas
I have played all of the core Fallout games, and I was one of the (it seems few) who was really excited when it moved from turn-based tactics to first-person shooter. While Fallout 3 was good, it didn’t have the charm of the first two.New Vegas delivered on everything I was hoping to see. The charm was back, the writing sharp, the quests imaginative. The gameplay was engaging and branched in a variety of directions, the gunplay was solid, and the atmosphere immersive. I of course love the first two games in the series—but New Vegas combines everything I like in gaming into one package. (As a note, I own the Outer Worlds, and am looking forward to digging into it. Consider this item on the list a recommendation of other Obsidian games—like Knights of the Old Republic Two—regardless of genre, as I’ve found them universally to be superior to their contemporaries.)
#7 Super Mario World
When I was eleven, I flew (alone, which was very exciting to me) from Nebraska to visit my uncle Devon in Salt Lake City. Before I left, my father gave me $200 and told me to pay for my own meals while on the trip—but of course, my uncle didn’t allow this. At the end of the trip, I tried to give him the money, which he wouldn’t take.I mentioned my dad would take the money back when I got home, but that was okay. Well, my uncle would have none of that, and drove me to the local mall and made me spend it on a Nintendo Entertainment System. (This uncle, you might guess, is an awesome human being.)Since that day of first plugging it in and experiencing Mario for the first time, I was hooked. This is the only platformer on the list, as I don’t love those. But one makes an exception for Mario. There’s just so much polish, so much elegance to the control schemes, that even a guy who prefers an FPS or an RPG like me has to admit these are great games. I picked World as my favorite as it’s the one I’ve gone back to and played the most.
#7: The Curse of Monkey Island (Monkey Island 3)
I kind of miss the golden age of adventure gaming, and I don’t know that anyone ever got it as right as they did with this game. It is the pinnacle of the genre, in my opinion—no offense to Grim Fandango fans. This game came out right before gaming’s awkward teenage phase where everything moved to 3-d polygons. For a while after, games looked pretty bad, though they could do more because of the swap. But if you want to go see what life was like before that change, play Monkey Island 3. Composed of beautiful art pieces that look like cells from Disney movies, with streamlined controls (the genre had come a long way from “Get yon torch”) and fantastic voice acting, this game still plays really well. This is one of the few games I’ve been able to get my non-gamer wife to play through with me, and it worked really well as a co-op game with the two of us trying to talk through problems. It’s a lovingly crafted time capsule of a previous era of gaming, and if you missed it, it’s really worth trying all these years later. (The first and second games hold up surprisingly well too, as a note, particularly with the redone art that came out a decade or so ago.)Also, again, this one has my kind of humor.
#6: Breath of the Wild
I never thought a Zelda game would unseat A Link to the Past as my favorite Zelda, but Breath of the Wild managed it. It combined the magic of classic gameplay with modern design aesthetic, and I loved this game. There’s not a lot to say about it that others haven’t said before, but I particularly liked how it took the elements of the previous games in the series (giving you specific tools to beat specific challenges) and let you have them all at once. I like how the dungeons became little mini puzzles to beat, instead of (sometimes seemingly endless) slogs to get through. I liked the exploration, the fluidity of the controls, and the use of a non-linear narrative in flashbacks. It’s worth buying a Switch just to play this one and Mario—but in case you want, you can also play Dark Souls on Switch... (That’s foreshadowing.)
#5: Halo 2
Telling stories about Halo Two on stream is what made me think of writing this list.I’m sometimes surprised that this game isn’t talked about as much as I think it should be. Granted, the franchise is very popular—but people tend to love either Reach or games 1 or 3 more than two. Two, however, is the only one I ever wanted to replay—and I’ve done so three or four times at this point. (It’s also the only one I ever beat on Legendary.)It’s made me think on why I love this one, while so many others seem to just consider it one of many in a strong—but in many ways unexceptional—series of games. I think part of this is because I focus primarily on the single-player aspects of a game (which is why there aren’t any MMOs on this list.) Others prefer Halo games with more balanced/polished multiplayer. But I like to game by myself, and don’t really look for a multiplayer experience. (Though this is changing as I game with my sons more and more.)I really like good writing—which I suppose you’d expect. But in games, I specifically prefer writing that enhances the style of game I’m playing. Just dumping a bunch of story on me isn’t enough; it has to be suited to the gameplay and the feel of the game. In that context, I’ve rarely encountered writing as good as Halo 2. From the opening—with the intercutting and juxtaposition of the two narratives—to the quotes barked out by the marines, the writing in this game is great. It stands out starkly against other Halo games, to the point that I wonder what the difference is.Yes, Halo Two is a bombastic hero fantasy about a super soldier stomping aliens. But it has subtle, yet powerful worldbuilding sprinkled all through it—and the music...it does things with the story that I envy. It’s kind of cheating that games and films get to have powerful scores to help with mood. The guns in Two feel so much better than Halo One, and the vehicles drive far better. The only complaint I have is that it’s only half a story—as in, Halo 2 and 3 seem like they were one game broken in two pieces. And while 3 is good (and Reach does something different, which I approve of in general) neither did it for me the way Two did, and continues to do.
#3: Final Fantasy X
You probably knew Final Fantasy was coming. People often ask if the way these games handle magic was an influence upon me. All I can say is that I’ve played them since the first one, and so they’re bound to have had an influence. On one hand, these games are really strange. I mean, I don’t think we gamers stop quite often enough to note how downright bizarre this series gets. Final Fantasy doesn’t always make the most sense—but the games are always ambitious.Ten is my favorite for a couple of reasons. I felt like the worldbuilding was among the strongest, and I really connected with the characters. That’s strange, because this is one of the FF games without an angst-filled teen as the protagonist. Instead, it has a kind of stable happy-go-lucky jock as the protagonist. But that’s what I needed, right then. A game that didn’t give me the same old protagonist, but instead gave me someone new and showed me I could bond to them just as well. Ten was the first with full voice acting, and that jump added a lot for me. It has my favorite music of the series, and all together is what I consider the perfect final fantasy game. (Though admittedly, I find it more and more difficult to get into turn-based battle mechanics as I grow older.)
#2: Bloodborne
Those who follow my streams, or who read other interviews I’ve done, probably expected this series to be at or near the top. The question wasn’t whether Souls would be here, but which one to pick as my favorite.I went with Bloodborne, though it could have been any of them. (Even Dark Souls 2—which I really like, despite its reputation in the fandom.) I’ve been following FromSoftware’s games since the King’s Field games, and Demon’s Souls was a huge triumph—with the director Hidetaka Miyazaki deserving much of the praise for its design, and Dark Souls (which is really just a more polished version of Demon’s Souls). As I am a fan of cosmic horror, Bloodborne is probably my favorite overall. It really hit the mix of cosmic and gothic horror perfectly. It forced me to change up my gameplay from the other Souls games, and I loved the beautiful visuals.I am a fan of hard games—but I like hard games that are what I consider “fair.” (For example, I don’t love those impossible fan-made Mario levels, or many of the super-crazy “bullet hell”-style games.) Dark Souls is a different kind of hard. Difficult like a stern instructor, expecting you to learn—but giving you the tools to do so. It presents a challenge, rather than being hard just to be hard.If I have a problem with Final Fantasy, it’s that the games sometimes feel like the gameplay is an afterthought to telling the story. But in the Souls games, story and gameplay are intermixed in a way I’d never seen done before. You have to construct the story like an archeologist, using dialogue and lore from descriptions of in-game objects. I find this fascinating; the series tells stories in a way a book never could. I’m always glad when a game series can show off the specific strengths of the medium. In fact, this series would be #1 except for the little fact that I have way too much time on Steam logged playing...
#1: Civilization VI
This series had to take #1 by sheer weight of gameplay time. I discovered the first on a friend’s computer in the dorms my freshman year—and I can still remember the feeling of the birds chirping outside, realizing I’d been playing all night and really should get back to my own dorm room. That still happens, and has happened, with every game in the series. I have a lot of thoughts on this series, many of them granular and too specific for this list. (Like, it’s obvious AI technology isn’t up to the task of playing a game this complex—so could we instead get a roguelike set of modifiers, game modes, etc. to liven up the games, rather than just having a difficulty slider that changes a few simple aspects of the game?)I’ll try not to rant, because I really do love this game series. A lot of people consider IV to be the pinnacle of the series, but after V unstacked units—and VI unstacked cities—there was no way I could ever go back. If for some reason, you’ve never played this grand patriarch of the 4X game genre, it’s about starting with a single stone-age settler who can found a city—then playing through eras of a civilization, growing your empire, to try to eventually get offworld with a space program. (Or, if you prefer, conquering the world.)It’s a load of fun in the way I like to have fun, and I feel like the series has only gotten better over the years. My hat is off to the developers, who keep reinventing the series, rather than making the exact same game over and over. Now, about that request for difficulty modes...
there are runner ups but for the sake of anyone whos on mobile and cant get past a read more (first of all omg im SO sorry) ill refrain. anyway he thought WHAT loz game was the best before botw?

Reference List for amiibo Fighter Names (Set 3)
25) Mario : Gonzales - This is a reference to Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door.  While at the Glitzpit, Mario ends up taking up the role of a prize fighter, going under the stage name “The Great Gonzales.”  Admittedly, I’ve never played TTYD, so this name idea came from Neo I believe.  The baby Yoshi and the champion belt shown in the card are both, from what I gather, actual references to that area of TTYD.  So, uh... not much context I can provide from personal experience!
26) Mega Man : Retro Rock - Given the music theming a lot of Mega Man classic has, going with a music theme to this card just made sense.  Plus given his name is Rock, it just works.  Originally I was going to call him ClassicRock, but alas, that was too long.  The names for amiibo figures are limited to 10 characters.  I used the light panels from the background of Top Man’s stage for the setting, and kind of themed the stage itself as the blue field Robot Masters tend to show up in during their intro poses.  And of course, we have a Sniper Joe on keyboard, and Met on drums.  Neo added extra details of course, such as the name of the Mega Man composer on the keyboard, and a GutsMan.EXE symbol on the drum kit.
27) Meta Knight : Dueloscuro - This one’s just a play on how Meta Knight often seems to be given a Spanish sounding accent.  Dueloscuro is a portmanteau of “duelo oscuro,” Spanish for “dark duel.”  “Tomad la espada!” meanwhile is “Get the sword!”  Basically it’s all a reference to Meta Knight’s frequent sword duels with Kirby, with a Spanish flair.
28) Mewtwo : MasterMind - Given Mewtwo is the most famous of all Psychic types most likely, I’d say he qualifies as a mastermind.  Plus how many of us really DIDN’T just chuck a Master Ball at him...?  Anyway, the various codes in the background refer to various Pokémon mechanics, such as catch rates, damage calculation, and IV calculation.  In Neo’s version, he also had the calculation for shiny chances, and made the binary in the background (mine was just random 0 and 1 gibberish) actually mean something, it translates to a speech Mewtwo gives in the first Pokémon movie, if memory serves.
29) Mii Gunner : Coverfire - When trying to figure out what to do with the Mii Gunner, it came to mind that since she was wearing orange (at least the Smash 4 one did, the Ultimate Mii Gunner wears yellow), I could make it an Advance Wars reference and have her as a soldier for Orange Star.  Neo added some slogans to make it look a bit more like a recruitment poster or such.  I think it worked out rather nicely.
30) Mii Swordfighter : RentAHero - So.... I may have played a little too much Find Mii.  Thus the reference to go for with Mii Swordfighter seemed pretty straightforward.  I had the idea to fill out the cast with the summonable party members, the rabbit, dog, and cat knights.  The play coins in the nameplate refer to the two play coins you had to pay to indeed basically rent a hero.
31) Mr. Game & Watch : PRIMETIME - Mr. Game & Watch is basically the start of Nintendo’s venture into video games.  Thus, the prime point of the timeline.  I went with a bit of a timeline structure here, showing his position between Nintendo’s start of making Hanafuda cards and before Donkey Kong first showed up.  His Judge sign being 1980 is the year he actually debuted.  As for the sun in the upper part of the image, that’s actually a reference to Neo himself, who previously went by “MrGandWatch.”  The “Weird Sun” as it’s been dubbed was sort of a logo of his of sorts.
32) Ness : Psi Cadet - This one’s a reference to Psychonauts.  Man, I love that game.  Ness being a psychic kid would fit right in at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp.  The area shown here is the Collective Unconscious, basically the “world hub select” area where you can quickly get into the other stages of the game through various doors.  The nameplate is styled after the certificates you get each time you earn a merit badge in the game.
33) Olimar : Zen Garden - Pretty much a centralized reference, given how frantic Pikmin life can be, I just wanted to give the captain and his friends a little down time, relaxing in their own private zen garden.  While technically Olimar does not use Rock Pikmin anywhere in his Smash moveset, it just felt weird to not include them with everyone else.
34) Pac-Man : NOMCO7650 - Also a self contained reference, this parodies Namco, the company responsible for Pac-Man.  Of course, he likes to eat things, so NOM.  Here he’s sampling the various pixel bonus fruits from his home game.  It was kind of fun, trying to draw them all with pixely bites taken out of them.  The 7650 comes from an important number Namco places in a lot of their games.  The Japanese pronunciation of this series of numbers, na-mu-ko-o, sounds like their company name.
35) Palutena : TheLightFM - Of all things, this came from a Mystery Science Theater line.  At least the name itself.  During “This Island Earth,” there’s a scene where someone enters an empty aircraft, and a gentle sounding voice says “Welcome.  Please be seated!”  Mike then says “You’re being kidnapped by The Light FM!”  Basically like it’s an easy listening radio station.  Given Palutena is a light goddess, and she basically uses her telepathy like radio contact to guide Pit through his adventures, for some reason this just worked to me.  Neo again added some fun easter eggs, like a Hades styled mug on the desk, along with one of the actual Smash 4 soundtrack CDs.
36) Peach : Lady Luck - I went with a bit of Mario Party referencing here, which then turned to casino style.  Basically Peach in some of the earlier Mario Party games, for one reason or another tended to be one of the most difficult AI opponents to deal with.  When items became a thing, reasons for this became all the more apparent as she would prioritize grabbing the Plunder Chest, an item that let her steal items from other players.  She was always a thing to deal with.  I’m not sure if it’s viable for the numbers on a real die to be positioned as they are here, but I wanted to show a 6 and a 4 since Mario Party debuted on the N64.  Due to the Luck theme, I went with an overall casino motif as I just really like that style.  Like, I actually collect playing cards, and if I had more access to them, I’d probably collect poker chips too.  Just always liked how they looked and felt.

Omg, lol, yes, go to bed!!!
I mean, I have tried a fair few of our treats just so that I can mess with people when they ask for recommendations.  There was one treat that we used to sell by the pound that a lady actually asked us to stop carrying because her husband would buy and eat them.  Like, she would find stashes in his sock drawer.  One that we carried from a local company for a while was actually meant to be eaten by both the owner and the pet.  As I recall, they too were a bit dry and bland, but not bad overall.
And yes, that does help clear things up a bit without giving anything away, and shift the anxiety more towards curiousity.  About multiple people now, it seems.  And I love the new preview, which I presume is part of a fleshing out of Chris’s flashback about the incident with the basketball players?  Can’t wait to see how that goes.  (The angst.  The potential for comfort.  Mmmm.)
Those are excellent choices, and also some of my faves.  Ragnarok was a fucking masterpiece (will Loki’s face when Odin says “I’m proud of you my sons” ever stop catching me like a knife to the chest?  Pretty sure the answer is no.)  I love when Thor gets a chance to prove he’s actually intelligent, and I need a Valkyrie movie asap.  (And omg, some of those visuals…)  And I really need to see Black Panther again soon.  Pretty sure Shuri is my fave Disney Princess after Leia.  (For some reason I’d also really love to see Okoye and Carol meet.  Like, I’m pretty certain the combined confidence and self-assurance would just make every dude in the vicinity spontaneously bow or kneel without even fully understanding why.)
I haven’t actually gotten to see any of the footage from the FF7 remake yet, but I remembered their participation being talked about on Tumblr (which is also where I saw the pics of Keahu’s cosplay.)  I haven’t had a chance to see my friends and talk to them about it, though it’ll be more “hey, did you know that Sephiroth is voiced by Superman?” because none of them watched TW, but a fair few have seen the CW DC shows.  And hey, don’t sweat it, I just have a weird ability to remember stuff like that, whether I want to or not.  I may not always recognize the voice, but I remember names fairly well most of the time, which comes in helpful at work when we’re talking about some piece of media and they can’t recall someone I’ll play “what else were they in?” with them until we can usually figure it out.  Or when my mom is telling me about something she saw (she’s a caregiver with a patient who LOVES going to the movies, so she’s seen more in the last few years than I ever did with her as a kid XD ) and cannot for the life of her remember names correctly.  Like, at all.  It astounds me sometimes what she comes up with trying to get it right.
Gonna have to look some of those characters up, only some are familiar.  (If it weren’t for the fact that they’re cousins here, I would be screaming Geralt!Derek and Jaskier!Stiles from the rooftops.)  I have actually done a video game costume myself but it was very long ago.  Some friends and I were in a small, local Halloween parade.  We had a Mario and a Luigi, a Lara Croft (with old Nintendo guns instead of regular ones), a couple of puppet Pac-Man ghosts being chased through the group by a large cardboard Pac-Man, several Tetris pieces, and one person wearing a Power Glove, a dance pad as a cape, and innumerable corded controllers as bling who I think was technically “leading” us along.  I was the T-shaped Tetris piece, and for what was basically a large cardboard tube with another cardboard box attached to the back, it was surprisingly easy and comfortable to walk in…as long as I didn’t try to sit down.
Ooh, and last random thought that occurred to me earlier.  If Cora does turn out to be alive (which we don’t know if she is), and Peter gave up the Alpha spark, would it go to Cora, as eldest female in the Hale line, or Malia, as eldest female in Peter’s line specifically (assuming Allison stays human)?  Feel free not to answer if need be in case of potential spoilers, I just happened to think of it.
Hope your sleep was sufficient and restful!
I’m going to put down a couple of quick answers to all of these lovely asks since I don’t have much time but I do want to address some of it.
First of all, this just made me smile today all of it. I love reading through these on bad days.
Second, it was a continuation of the scuffle with the basketball players. This time seen from Peter’s pov. The preview I put up today is basically a short scene where they’re a few months into trying to get close to Chris and finally, things seem to be working. Not included in this preview is also some background info on what’s going on with Melissa and Claudia.
And that is a good question, one I haven’t thought much about since I’m still not 100% sure what I want to do with Cora in the sequel. I’m kind of tempted to not bring her back and have the spark go to Malia by default. But eh, more thoughts need to be put into this.
