I kind of hate all the comparisons between kipperlily and like. Those fuckass "affirmative action fucks me over I wish I was [minority] so it would be easier" people because none of that. Is what she said. She said the bad kids already had more experience with adventuring before they got to augefort and it meant they had an advantage. Which is true. Yeah Riz was lower-class but his mum was a COP. Riz, Kristen and Fig had parents who were heroes (Sandra-Lynn is an active ranger, Kristen's parents are paladins, Sklonda is a rogue), Adaine's family was super rich and politically influential, Fabian had both. Gorgug's the only one who wasn't actively at an advantage [IN THE CONTEXT OF HAVING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HEROISM] and she didn't have shit to say about him. Kipperlily was the first person in her family to try heroism, the bad kids are largely legacy admissions.
Additionally to the people comparing it to the "anti-affirmative action" crowd: do you know what affirmative action is. The bad kids didn't receive special consideration on their admissions to aguefort or scholarships or additional financial support or extended assessment times or anything. How could she be mad about affirmative action if none of these people received affirmative action. What they DID have was knowledge about their classes that started much earlier than high school, which is what Kipperlily said in her file that she thought grading should be adjusted for because she did not have that.
To me it's less like affirmative action and more like augefort is like an IQ test. They pretend that it's fair and objective, but you can be taught how to do those things from a younger age, and if your parents took the time to teach you pattern recognition and shit then you'll do better on an IQ test than someone who wasn't trained for it and everyone will act like that makes you innately smarter when it doesn't. It just means someone taught you how to do that earlier.
Barring Gorgug, every one of the bad kids had access to information about heroism and their class at a younger age than Kipperlily did, which primed them for success in their classes. Every one of them got additional information about mysteries from their families (and even direct battle-tactics training from Bill), Riz especially with getting classified info out of his mum. Kipperlily does not have hero relatives. She's the first in her family line to attend a hero school. She knew nothing about it before her first day, meanwhile Kristen was already the chosen of Helio, Adaine had already been attending the best wizard school in the country, Fabian had already spent his whole life training with his father, and Riz was already involved in solving mysteries using info and tactics he got from his parents.
They aren't necessarily "privileged" (except Fabian and Adaine), but Kipperlily didn't say they were, she said that in the specific context of attending a hero school they had a prior-knowledge advantage. Saying they didn't is like comparing the grades of a kid who's academic career started with preschool with a kid who didn't attend until middle school and acting like one of them wasn't better prepared.

"ok so WHAT IF aziraphale ACTUALLY–" what if aziraphale had religious trauma and was brainwashed for thousands of years and what if he can't escape the thought of wanting to do good and be good and what if he was shocked by the kiss and hated himself for liking it so fucking much and what if there were no coffee poising and brain control and secret plans and body switch but only a character with flaws making mistakes bc he thought it would mean finally being FREELY together with the demon he wanted for more than 6000 years. what then?

FTWDs final season could have been so much better if it was revealed that Troy was running padre and controlling madison (as revenge) this whole time. He knew enough about nick and Alicia to make madison think padre knew who and where they were this whole time. And here are some other reasons how this storyline would make sense and be more interesting:
- Troy has a military background so him taking over and running a military base makes more sense than two teenagers building it up by themselves because all the adults died.
- taking and training up children to be solidiers also would make a little sense because of his own fucked up upbringing and the idea he has of the type of people who were made for this world. He would have probably had the same idea as shrike, that the kids stood a better chance at padre than with their “weak” parents. The mother of his child dying for being a good person and not getting to raise their daughter (who would not be named after his abuser) could have also played into this idea of the kids being separated from their good parents.
- shrikes radiation cure experiments: Troy ran walker bite experiments before, just to see how people would turn. So it would also make sense if the work we see shrike doing was something he approved of or an idea he himself came up with. As for shrike, it would make sense that she turned out this way if she’d spent years being mentored by someone like troy otto instead of becoming evil and stealing children just because her dad died.
- the scene where madison smashes the glass to expose “padre” would have been such a good and shocking reveal if it was Troy. Imagine Madison finding out that Troy is not only alive but had been the one running this the whole time!
There’s also a lot of other things I would have done differently for the other characters too and I would have liked Madison to have a little villain era and do some really fucked up shit as she tries to take down Troy and padre. How dark would Madison go? Would she survive with her humanity still intact?
I know I’m just talking into the void here because no one care about this shitshow but I just hate it when shows have a plot that could have been good, maybe even great but then completely miss the mark and fans come with better theories and ideas with minimal effort and thought.
#somewhere dave erickson is screaming (and relieved that at least frank dillane stayed away from the show lmao)#fear the walking dead#ftwd#madison clark#troy otto#i also would have had s7a focus on strand vs alicia but v differently with only alicia’s ending staying the same pretty much#then 7b would have been wrapping things up with morgans family and actually seeing the group being taken by padre before having a time jump#then season 8 would have been the much better padre/troy/madison arc#the way these writers reaally do not know how to write for troy and madison#it’s like they tried doing what they thought DE wouldve done with them but couldn’t decide if they wanted them to be villains or be redeemed#anyway i will always mourn the arcs we were meant to have in season 4#madison becoming the villain vs nick and alicia and whatever was planned for troy#troy was only killed off bc dave didn’t trust the new showrunners with him and he couldnt save the OGs by killing them too lmao#but i am glad alicia is alive and we got to see daniel sharmans acting bc most of the cast were only giving about 20% atp#but who can blame them? the writing got to new levels of bad in s7/8 and their personalities were changing every few episodes#actually to be fair they did the best with what they were given they just seemed done#i only tuned in to alicias episodes in s7 so my opinion on the rest of it is from what ive read bc i just could not get through it#so my opinion on the characters full arcs in s7 may be wrong

Fuck this. I just wish that stories were allowed to END, you know. No spontaneous seasons added on. No cliffhangers in the hope that the streaming service doesn’t cancel the whole show anyway. No hints of future movies in the ones that are supposed to finish off a story arc. No talks of actors coming back. No dragging up stories that were finished and done with over a decade ago and give them yet another movie.
I’m so tired.

WAIT Elle has box braids in s3??? I could cry
I don't think she had bad hair in s1 or s2, but I'm excited that they're actually giving the Black girls Black hairstyles instead of having them wear it out.
Before, it felt like the (all-white, for context) hair department was just ignorant about Black hair, so they put wigs on the Black actresses and only did styles that also work on nonblack hair for their own sake/convenience. This theory was especially supported by the fact that Tara, whose 4c hair couldn't really be styled the same as nonblack hair, wore a twistout that would take literal hours to do every day, but she had box braids in s2! and Elle has box braids now!! I'm so excited!!!
I also feel like this fits her bold, fashion-loving personality so much better than leaving her hair out. Our hair is basically its own accessory, and the long box braids are very feminine. Again, I'm not saying not having a protective style isn't feminine or fashionable (I myself am a fashion girlie with an Afro), but having one is another outlet for her creativity, and I'm glad they're recognizing that now.

"Dos oruguitas... enamoradas... pasan sus noches y madrugadas..."
Sam (ladybug miraculous holder Mariquita [Ladybug], to be specific) stepped out of the portal created by the holder of the rabbit miraculous. Her eyes were wide as she took in the ruined Paris.
Buildings were tipped over and somewhat shattered. A thick fog surrounded the edges of the city, or at least as far as Sam could see, and threatened to come forward and smother her. Glancing down towards the streets, Sam could see they were flooded with water which was steadily rising.
What the hell happened here?
When Sam first came to Paris for a job opportunity (a clever cover for whenever she saw her mother), she never expected to be gifted a pair of earrings for protecting the city from a magical terrorist. She never expected to have a partner, Gatita [Kitten] who acted like she was years younger than her (which, she probably was considering how much she talked about having to get home before her mother came back) who wielded the power of the black cat's destruction with ease.
What she never expected was to see her sister again - so close where she could touch her and not observe from afar.
She didn't want it to be under these conditions, either.
And if Christina hadn't mentioned Tara to her boss before dad... he left, she probably would've left Tara alone in Woodsboro.
"Llenas de hambre..."
Sam looked around in confusion. She knew she heard somebody singing when she first stepped out of the portal, but she figured she had imagined it.
Swallowing, Sam spun her yo-yo around and walked forward with caution. She could see the singing person sitting on the edge of what used to be the news and media tower. They were clad in all white leather, rocking back and forth without a thought.
It was sad to look at. Like a child zoning out to help deal with the pain.
Sam knew what that was like. She knew she deserved to feel that way, though, for what she did.
Leave.
Wait.
"Gatita?" Sam called out.
The singing stopped.
The person tilted their head to the side, the leather ears on their head flicking back before shooting up. They stand up and - oh.
Sam felt sick to her stomach.
"Mariquita!"
That was her partner. But... it wasn't her at the same time.
Gatita was staring at her with a wide grin that suited the Cheshire Cat more than her, and she was thin as a twig. It was as if she hadn't eaten in days.
Maybe months if what Tikki said about how the miraculous could help survive your body for a long while was true.
"You're back! I thought I lost you forever!" Gatita's voice wobbled with tears pent up over time. She took a step closer to Sam who, in turn, took a wary step back. "Oh... You're scared of me."
Sam shook her head. "I'm not scared of you, Gatita. But you... you are akumatized."
She stopped spinning her yo-yo and inched closer to her partner. She was staring at her feet, so Sam gently lifted her head by cupping her face. Gatita's breathing shuddered as she took in the warmth. It hurt Sam's heart more than she would admit.
"Save me..." Gatita whimpered.
Sam nodded. "I will! Where - Where's your akuma?"
Gatita closed her eyes and took Sam's hands in her own. She brought one of them to her chest - over her heart.
"It's right here. I... This kitty got into a bit of trouble and couldn't get out of it."
Sam nodded. "Ok. I got you." She hugged her partner and held back her tears. She had grown to love the troublemaking cat like another sister. "I'll help you."
"You're already helping me."
Before Sam could question the change in tone, she was grabbed by her wrists and thrown above Gatita. Her back hit the roof, and the air exited her lungs harshly.
"F-fuck..." Sam gasped.
"Cataclysm!" Gatita grinned down at Sam. "Once I get your miraculous, none of this'll even matter anymore!"
Sam rolled out of the way and spun her yo-yo in a hurry. Part of the roof turned to ash beneath Gatita's hand and crumbled away.
"Gatita!" Sam dodged another attack.
Gatita screamed. "That's not my fucking name anymore!"
Sam backed away. Her foot hit the ledge. She looked down at the water.
"It's Cheshire now," she growled out. "And she doesn't want to take your miraculous from your corpse."
"You aren't getting my miraculous ever!"
With that, Sam flung herself backwards.
Cheshire dove after her. "You can't run from destiny, Sam!"
... What?
Sam gaped at the cat as she fell. "What?"
Cheshire's grin grew wider. Sam felt nauseous.
"Sam Carpenter! Samantha..." Cheshire raised her hand. "Cataclysm!"
Sam hit the top of a bus and flipped backwards away from the cataclysm. A burst of negative energy shot out in a ring around them, and the water rippled below.
"How..." Sam began with wide eyes, "How do you know my name? We aren't -"
"Supposed to know who each other are?" Cheshire finished for her. She stood up and shook her hand off. "I found out who you were. And look what I did because of it! What we did because of it."
Sam looked at the sunken Paris and took notice of the moon shattered in halves.
They did this? Then where was the future Mariquita?
Cheshire cocked her head and smiled at the unasked question. "Don't ask questions you don't want the answers to."
Her face dropped into a scowl, and she raises her arm. A ball of white cataclysm was between her fingers, ready to snap and shoot at Sam.
"Now give me your miraculous!"
●○●○●○●○
Tara blinked as she watched Mariquita exit her room using the window.
"Mariquita?" Tara mumbled, a half smile on her face.
Today was tough for her. It was the anniversary of Sam officially leaving her when she was so young. She had her suspicions that Sam planned on leaving on her 18th birthday, but had to wait until she had more money to do so.
She told Mariquita about how this week would be tough for her, and it looked like she was trying to cheer her up.
Tara smiled.
Mariquita... She was like another sister to her. Deep down, Tara knew she could never replace Sam, but all Sam's been doing since they've met in Paris was piss her off. Mariquita, on the other hand, was Sam before Papi left.
Helpful, nice, loving.
Now? She was kind of annoying. Always stalking Tara in some way.
Tara wanted nothing to do with her. She left for years and decided to reconnect when Tara was grown up and resentful?
Shaking away her thoughts, Tara approached the note left on her bed. She picked it up and frowned.
"What's the hold-up, Bangs?" Plagg flew out from the inner pocket of her jacket. He snickered at her bewildered expression. "What? Cat got you tongue?"
"Sam?" Tara muttered, running her fingers over the signature. "Why would Mariquita give me a letter from Sam?"
Unless...
Tara gasped and nearly dropped the letter. Frantically, she tore the paper open and read it, feeling tears spill down her cheeks.
Plagg, fortunately, stayed quiet while she took the letter in.
She smiled. Then she frowned. "But... if Sam and Mariquita are one and the same, then I..."
Plagg began to panic, showing her a wheel of stinky camembert cheese. "Who cares about Mariquita? We should totally cat out on this delicious cheese!"
"I've got to talk to her! I have to apologize!"
Sam being Mariquita made a hell of a lot of sense!
Mariquita. She was always there for Gatita whenever she did something stupid. Always eager to try and shield her even though Gatita was there to shield Mariquita. Paris couldn't be saved unless Mariquita stopped trying to sacrifice herself and casted her Lucky Charm.
Sam... She was always near where Tara was. Always trying to talk to her. But Tara shoved her away, venom stinging her words, until Sam backed off.
You can't be hurt if you hurt them first.
How could Tara do this to Sam?
"Plagg, I need to go see Sam!" Tara dropped the letter with a firm nod. "I need to -"
"What?! Kid, you can't reveal your identity to her! You aren't even supposed to know who she is!"
Tara smirked. "Who said I had to tell her who I am? She'd probably make me give up being Gatita, and that can't happen."
"Wait! Let me at least finish my cheese!" Plagg cried.
"No time to lose! Plagg, claws out!"
○●○●○●○●
Sam hopped around the fallen Eiffel Tower with Cheshire hot on her trail. The cat was still flinging bursts of cataclysms at her.
"Cheshire, you have to stop!" Sam yelled.
Cheshire's ears flattened. "Stop? So we won't know who each other is?! Why would I do that when I can take your miraculous?!"
Sam flinched away as a cataclysm stings near her arm.
"Lucky Charm!" Sam tossed her yo-yo up and caught... a mechanical pencil?
Cheshire scoffed. "I wish I could rewrite what happened in the past, but there's only one way to do that now."
Sam ran away from the multiple cataclysms sent at her.
"You can't hide from me forever, Sam!"
Sam hid on top of the fallen tower. She spun her yo-yo as she waited for Cheshire to come up.
"Samantha..!" Cheshire sang with glee. "I know you're up here... Did you know that if a person has both the ladybug and cat miraculous, they can grant one wish? I have a perfect wish, Sam... Don't you want to be together forever? Two peas in a pod, thick as thieves! Dos oruguitas."
Had Sam not been in such a panic, she would've noticed that phrase. She would've noticed that only one person called them that.
She would've noticed that Tara was Gatita. Was Cheshire.
But she didn't.
Sam revealed herself and threw her yo-yo at Cheshire. It wrapped around the baton attached to her back and yanked it back into her hand. Cheshire growled in surprise.
"Your time's up, akuma!" Sam broke the baton and - "What?"
Nothing.
Cheshire called her cataclysm again. "Stop trying to leave me! You can't leave me!"
She slammed her palm on the tower, and spider webs crept towards Sam. She didn't have any time to swing her yo-yo before she was falling a hundred feet into the water below.
Cheshire breathed heavily. She shook her head. "No no no no! SAMANTHA!"
She pulled at her hair and laughed.
●○●○●○●○
Sam sat down beside Danny with a sigh. She met him in New York sometime after leaving California. They became... close... and now he's trying to help her reconnect with Tara.
Trying being the keyword there.
Once Sam heard Christina was moving and taking Tara with her to Paris, she used almost all of her money to buy a plane ticket. Danny, the stupidly handsome man, decided to tag along and pay rent for a shared apartment. From there, he helped establish their cover story for why they moved to Paris.
She appreciated the help, but it was really unnecessary.
Danny only gave her a look of disbelief, and Sam relented.
"Did you give it to her?" Danny asked.
Sam sighed. "Yeah."
"Then why are you so sad still?"
She shrugged.
She wanted to be in Tara's life again, but she didn't think Tara would want to let her in again. She was more of a big sister to Gatita than to Tara.
And she deserved it. She left. She left Tara all alone with that woman. It was all her fault.
"Sam." Danny nudged her.
Sam didn't bother looking up. He probably was going to say something so attractively stupid in an attempt to make out under the Eiffel Tower.
"Sam?"
Now that's new.
Sam snapped her attention up to see Tara. She came.
Tara looked nervous around Sam, shuffling on her feet, but she was determined.
"I uh... I got your letter," awkwardly, Tara said. Her eyebrows come together in distress. "Did you mean it? That you'll never leave me? That you'll always be there?"
Sam stood up slowly. She stepped forward and took her sister's hands in her own. Smiling, Sam nodded.
"I meant every word."
Tears wobble on Tara's eyelid. "¿Prometes? [Do you promise?]"
Sam brought her into a tight hug and kissed the top of her head. "Nunca romperé este. [I'll never break this one.]"
Tara began to cry.
And Sam was true to her words. Much to their mother's disapproval, Sam and Tara became close again.
Tara kept her identity as Gatita a secret from Sam, and Sam did the same. Tara felt like it didn't really count since she knew Sam's hero identity.
She was guilty. Sam kept next to nothing from her while Tara remained guarded at all times. At least, with part of her life. It was like she wasn't opening up to Sam at all.
And Sam obviously felt that way, too.
She was leaving Paris. She was leaving Tara. She was leaving. Again.
Fucking again.
Tara wanted to lash out when she saw the tears, but Sam had already ran away. Fuck her, then! Tara didn't... she didn't... need her...
She would be lying.
It was suspicious how fast the akuma came. And it was headed straight for Sam.
At first, Tara hated to admit, she thought about letting the akuma get her sister. She was so angry at Sam for breaking her promise. But then how would Tara stomach hurting her akumatized sister?
She revealed herself while cataclysming the akuma.
She didn't expect that information to get back to the villain.
○●○●○●○●
Sam hit the water and shivered. It was freezing.
She looked around underwater as she put her yo-yo to her mouth to breathe. She spotted two figures on the ground, frozen in time.
She swam down towards them and gasped. One of them was the villain. The woman had her arms up and blocking something.
The other one...
Sam's eyes went wide. She reached out and touched the scared face of herself. She crumbled away in the water.
Nauseous, Sam swam to the surface and threw her yo-yo at the nearest building. On her hands and knees, Sam dry heaved and shook all over.
"Do you see now? Why I need you miraculous?"
Sam shook her head. "No, this can't be the only way..!"
"Dios mio..." Cheshire groaned, head tipped back. She stamped her foot on the ground. "You saw what I did. What I became. You can't save me. I was doomed from the start."
Cheshire held out her hand, eyes begging for Sam to cooperate. "Please, Sam. Please give me your miraculous, and we can fix everything together! You won't have to leave me!"
Sam took the opportunity to grab Cheshire's tail-belt and break it, but no butterfly.
Cheshire scowled. "You aren't even listening to me. But I should be used to that by now, right?! No one ever listens to what I want! I'm always left behind!"
Cheshire began to cry. "Why do you keep breaking your promise?! Why can't you stay with me?!"
Sam couldn't dodge the kick to her stomach and laid on the roof in pain, grasping at the spotted armor on her body.
Cheshire shook her head, muttering to herself. "No, you can't hurt her. You need her, she needs you."
Sam backed away, holding her stomach. She knew she was cowering on the ground while Cheshire gathered herself, and that wasn't a smart move on her part. However, she would rather face her partner when she had more clarity than when she talked to herself.
"If I can't have your miraculous, then no one can! Mega Cataclysm!" Cheshire's hands began to shake as she raised them to the sky, a large ball of growing white on her palms. "I'll destroy everything! Not a single fucking atom will be left of the universe when I'm done! ¡Y ese es una promesa que nunca solucionaré! [And that's a promise I'll never break!]"
Sam clenched her jaw. "Wait!"
Cheshire stared at her expectantly.
"I'll give you my miraculous! Just stop! Please!"
The Cataclysm flickered out of existence. Cheshire shook her sore wrists.
"Sorry it had to be like this, Sam." She didn't sound particularly sorry. In fact, she was gleeful.
Sam stood and bit her lip. Cheshire tapped her foot, impatient.
It reminded Sam of Tara, in a way.
"I'm sorry you ended up like this, Gatita," she said.
Cheshire rolled her eyes. "It's Cheshire now."
Sam closed her eyes as Cheshire walked over and rested her head on Sam's chest. Her tense body relaxed against the older woman.
"But I'll forgive you." Her watery voice made Sam slow in her deceit. "I always will, Sam."
Sam snatched the bell from Cheshire's chest and backed away. Her heart burned at the betrayal in those blue eyes.
"Your time's up, akuma!" Sam broke the bell, and the akuma flew out. She quickly caught it and purified it.
Cheshire changed back into her Gatita.
Gatita looked around in confusion, taking in Paris in silence, and her eyes caught Sam.
"Sam?" Gatita questioned, confused. "Are you ok? What happened?"
Sam fought off the urge to hug Gatita tight and never let her go.
Instead...
"I'm sorry," Sam stated in an attempt to remain formal. "We aren't supposed to know each other's identity."
"You aren't my..." Gatita flinched, hurt at the rejection, but she nodded. "I... understand. It's better this way."
Just then, the portal opened and Cottontail poked her head through. Her ombre hair was frizzy as if she was the one running around fighting an akumatized Gatita.
"Uh, hello? We have to get going!" Cottontail said, hopping around. "What are you waiting for?"
Sam looked down at the pencil in her hand. It clicked in her head.
"I know what to do! Gatita, I know how to fix everything!"
Gatita was surprised at the tight hug she was pulled into, but she welcomed it nonetheless. She inhaled Sam's scent and nodded.
"You always do," she chuckled. "I trust you, Sam."
Sam pulled back to run to the portal.
●○●○●○●○
Tara didn't know what to do!
How did things turn out like this? Her sister was Mariquita and her mother -
Christina fucking Carpenter was Monarch. She was the villain terrorizing Paris.
All because she wanted to put her fucked up family back together. A family she tore apart with her lies.
But...
Everyone always left because of Tara, right? That's always what Christina told her, and it's been true so far.
No! Fuck!
It was all her fault!
How could Tara do this?!
"Tara! Mi vida [my life], don't listen to her! She's trying to get in your head!"
Sam.
Tara shook her head. She couldn't do it! She wasn't as strong as Sam, she couldn't fight off the akuma already infecting her mind.
"Sammy..." Tara sobbed. "I-I can't..!"
Sam shook her head. "No! You have to fight her! I believe in you!"
Monarch - No. Christina didn't bother saying anything. She simply grinned. She knew she had Tara right where she wanted her.
When Tara blinked, her black leather turned white and her eyes bled from green to blue.
She didn't know what to do anymore. She couldn't listen to them! She couldn't... take it!
"Sammy..."
Sam closed her eyes. "It's ok. Te amo, Tara. [I love you, Tara]"
Tara screamed, and the world exploded in a bright light.
○●○●○●○●
Tara blinked as she watched Mariquita exit her room using the window.
"Mariquita?" Tara mumbled, a half smile on her face.
Today was tough for her. It was the anniversary of Sam officially leaving her when she was so young. She had her suspicions that Sam planned on leaving on her 18th birthday, but had to wait until she had more money to do so.
She told Mariquita about how this week would be tough for her, and it looked like she was trying to cheer her up.
Tara smiled.
She walked over and picked up the note. She opened it and read the contents.
'Tara,
Life may seem difficult right now, but I know you'll get through it just fine. I've had my eyes on everyone in this city, and I've seen the amazing things you've done for it. You are special, and you are worth it.
If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm always available. I'll always listen.
I know we've only worked together a couple of times because of you being targeted by an akuma, but I care about you. You'll always be important to me, even if we never become close outside of my hero identity.
You matter to people.
-Mariquita'
"Bangs? Kid?" Plagg held up a piece of camembert and looked away, embarrassed. "Don't cry. It'll ruin my cheese mood."
Tara chuckled tearfully. "Sorry, just... Mariquita cares about me."
And, maybe, that's good enough for Tara for now.
~*~
"Dos oruguitas... enamoradas..."
Mariquita sat down next to Gatita as she sang softly into the Paris night.
"Where'd you hear that song from?" Mariquita asked.
Gatita turned her bright gaze onto Mariquita, and the woman smiled. It really felt like she was talking to Tara again.
"It's from a movie that came out a couple years ago, but... when I was younger, a friend and I used to call ourselves oruguitas. It means -"
"Caterpillars."
Gatita blinked in surprise before laughing. "Yeah, I should've figured you knew 'cause of your name and all."
Mariquita smiled. Gatita snuggled close and rested her head on her shoulder.
Mariquita and Gatita watch the full moon behind the lit up Eiffel Tower in silence.

*these are my own personal opinions and observations! if you liked this scene how it was, that's fine! no one's forcing you to look at this lol. i'm not trying to "ruin" this scene for anyone or invalidate people’s feelings. it’s a fictional show. the writers like when people analyse and look into it and that’s what i’m doing. these are just my own opinions about it as someone who has watched the show since the beginning, pays attention and truly cares about the characters, and i think they could've done this scene a lot better if they wanted it to seem genuine.
i also just want to make it clear that i would’ve had no problem with mike and el’s relationship if it was well-written, slowly developed properly instead of rushed, they actually understood each other and could be themselves with each other AND if will wasn’t involved in this love triangle and had his heart broken in the process because that’s probably one of the most cruel, horrible and unnecessary things i’ve ever seen in a show. there was absolutely no reason to involve an abused and traumatised gay child in this mess if he was just going to end up hurt again after everything he’s suffered and people have EVERY right to be uncomfortable and upset about that, but anyways!
“love at first sight”
the love at first sight trope coming out of nowhere seemed really out of character for mike since he's made it clear several times he doesn't believe in that and we also know he didn't fall in love with el the moment he met her when he was only 12 years old and struggling with the trauma of his best friend going missing. i'm not sure why they felt the need to include that when will was sitting right there listening and they could've done literally anything else to show he loved her. he shouldn't have to lie and make things up that don’t make sense (seriously, what happened to “friends don’t lie”)? and sure, the cast can say whatever they want about a 12 year old falling in love with a stranger the moment he looked at her even though he knew absolutely nothing about her and his best friend was suffering in an alternate dimension, but it still makes no sense from a writing standpoint and you can literally see that in mike’s words and actions after they take her to his house. the whole thing has always been weird lol. i don’t know why people romanticise the love at first sight trope with two children anyways and act like it makes their relationship better when it only made it worse because of how rushed it was.
using will
this needs to be mentioned considering will is the reason this monologue happened in the first place (so don’t even start with the “stop making everything about will” when THE WRITERS THEMSELVES literally put him in every mike and el scene except their fight scene!!!!!!!) but i absolutely hated how they used will's feelings for mike in order to make him say he loves his own girlfriend. like… what. using a gay character who has suffered since the very beginning as a plot device to force another ship back together while he continues to suffer and be heartbroken isn't cool at all. you can come up with any excuse, but NOTHING makes it okay that they included will in this mess and turned him into a couple’s therapist that fixes their problems when they can’t even do that themselves. if they wanted all this drama with mike and el and STILL have them stay together for some reason, fine. but will should’ve NEVER been involved. there’s no excuse. i don’t understand how anyone is okay with that. he literally had to push him into saying the monologue even when el was choking because mike wouldn’t have said it otherwise. he also took inspiration from what will said in the van about his OWN feelings for him and basically re-worded it. it’s just crazy.
“mike was just trying to save her”
i get that!!!!! he was panicking and under stress. it’s actually a realistic way to respond in that situation and anyone would make up whatever they think the person wants to hear to save them. he was trying his best to help her and i really do appreciate him for that because she really needed strength and motivation. BUT the point is, it still wasn’t entirely genuine and it’s so weird that people watch it and talk about it like it’s a proper romantic love confession and their relationship is oh so perfect when he always lies and contradicts himself which just feels hurtful and unnecessary. he could've told her he loved her WITHOUT making things up. in fact, he should’ve told her he loved her BEFORE she got her powers back, before he was pushed into it by will and before she was in danger and he was under pressure. that would’ve made it seem so much more genuine.
flashbacks
i’m just gonna link this incredible analysis post from @aurorabyler here about flashbacks because they explained it so perfectly. please check it out!!!!
anyways mike could’ve spoken about happy memories instead of making up lies she knows aren’t true. when he said “it’s not because i’m scared of you. i’ve never felt that way”, it just sounded ridiculous because she knows he’s been scared of her. it literally happened a few episodes ago at the roller rink. even in season 1, mike yelled at her and triggered traumatic memories that reminded her of brenner (the flashbacks happen right after to show the parallels) and it happened again in season 4. she also said “you think i’m a monster too” when they were arguing because she knows that mike has been scared of her. and at the roller rink when she was sitting at the table shaking and crying, he just stared at her along with the crowd and he didn’t sit with her or take her away from the triggering environment. he just stared and did nothing. in the car he was silent and then at the dinner table he made a sarcastic comment which made her feel worse and get up and leave. then he sips his drink which is a parallel to ted and karen. obviously mike has every right to be shocked and afraid sometimes, but el was also really struggling and he did nothing to help. even when she confronted him about everything, he just sat there, got defensive, denied everything and called her ridiculous. “he’s just a teenager” just doesn’t work as an excuse because we’ve seen that mike can be mature, apologise and take responsibility for what he’s done wrong with other people, so why didn’t he do that during their fight scene? why was he sitting there with no emotion on his face and making her feel worse as she was literally breaking down in front of him? why did he have to be pressured and motivated by his best friend to say he loves his own girlfriend? “he just needed some advice”, “he’s just insecure”, “his parents couldn’t say ily”. these are all ridiculous excuses that make no sense. it also doesn’t explain why will was involved in this mess in the first place. how is it okay for a gay child to just be shoved to the side and heartbroken and then force the boy he loves into telling his girlfriend he loves her? how are people seriously okay with that?
more lies and idolisation
during the monologue, mike also could’ve mentioned el's friends and family which mean the world to her instead of just making it about himself and why he needs “his superhero”. he could’ve mentioned who she is as a person instead of just her powers, but the truth is, he barely knows who she is as a person because they can’t be themselves around each other and they don’t even share any similar interests. that's why it confuses me when people actually take what he's saying seriously and think he's being genuine and "romantic" when he isn't. "oh, but mike said he fell in love the moment he met her, he’s so in love”. uh, of course he's going to say that when he's under pressure and she's in danger, but that doesn't mean it's true. we know that he was going through one of the most traumatic times in his life when will went missing and he wasn’t focusing on falling in love… he was literally only 12 years old and he knew el for 6 days before she disappeared. they were strangers. he also only let her stay when she said the bad guys were after her and when he found out she had powers and could help find will, not because he “fell in love”. he was literally planning to send her away so they could focus on finding will. so many people forget about this but it’s just crazy to think about. even when they reunite at the end of season 2, they had only spent less than a week with each other as children. mike called her every day with no response but that’s only because he wanted to know if she was out there because she was his friend and of course he cares about her. but they still barely knew each other and he didn’t get to know her more while he was making those calls because she couldn’t even respond. there was no proper build up, no honest communication and no getting to know each other properly before getting into a relationship.
rushed romance
people talk about how they fell in love immediately when they barely even knew each other and el just escaped a lab she was raised in and didn’t know what romance was. she couldn’t even communicate at the same level as mike and everything happened so quickly for her (and no, this is NOT saying that she's not capable of having a boyfriend now. of course she is. she's incredible and she's capable of so much. but when she got out of the lab, she was just a child and she wasn't taught anything about romance or relationships, so it would've been so confusing for her and she needed more time to discover herself and her own interests and then figure out who she likes, if she even wanted a relationship at all). in season 3, she asked max how she knows what she likes because no one has ever taught her or allowed her to figure things out on her own and decide what she likes for herself. max was the first person to do that and it was a really important moment for el. she was also the happiest she had ever been in that scene when they were shopping and i’ve never seen her smile and laugh so much. it was really beautiful to see.
anyways, i know she's not being forced to stay in her relationship with mike but i feel like both of them heavily depend on each other due to their emotional attachment since they found each other during a traumatic time and saved each other when they were vulnerable and needed help. mike was the first person to take care of el outside the lab and helped her hide from the bad guys so she wouldn’t have to go back, and el saved mike's life when he jumped off the cliff and then she broke his bully's arm. mike and el feel like they owe each other something and they're extremely dependent on each other because they saved each other, but i don't understand why they had to start dating because of that? it's like they feel like they can't be anything outside of a couple which isn't healthy considering the show has proven over and over again that they're not working as a couple. i don't know why people think this is a bad thing either or an "insult" to their relationship. it's not at all. no one is saying they don't love each other, because of course they do. they just don't work together romantically for many reasons, but they would still love each other even if they're just friends. in fact, i think their relationship would be even stronger if they were just friends.
they don’t feel like equals (and literally admitted this in the show)
one of the biggest issues with their relationship is that both mike and el can’t be themselves with each other and they always lie, so it doesn’t help that he lied during his monologue too. it’s really sad. you shouldn’t feel like you need to lie or change who you are when you’re in a relationship. and i just feel like there were so many other ways they could’ve done this. like, if they wanted mike and el together, that’s fine. but why couldn’t their relationship be more genuine and why couldn’t they be themselves around each other? el didn’t even need a boyfriend or first kiss in season 1, she just needed a friend to help her and be by her side. mike is the one that decided what their relationship would be because he had a little crush on her, but el didn’t get a say at all. i understand it was supposed to be "cute and wholesome" and mike didn’t have any bad intentions when he kissed her, but it’s just really strange when you actually think about how they barely knew each other and el didn’t know what a kiss was.
the characters deserve better
i also just feel like this scene hurts all 3 characters involved (el, mike and will, because yes, will was involved in a way considering he's been in love with mike since the beginning and he’s the reason mike said his monologue in the first place) and it feels insulting to them. the writers also placed will in EVERY mike and el scene except their fight, so people can’t get mad when people “make it all about will”. blame the writers then. people are obviously going to talk about the abused and traumatised gay child that’s suffering and getting his heart broken.
el: she deserves to be loved for who she is as a person, as jane, not just “superhero eleven”. her boyfriend should’ve shown her love in his letters and he should’ve comforted her and explained himself (or just simply said “i love you”) when she was crying in her room begging to hear the words. his excuse for not being able to say it was “i’m scared she won’t need me anymore”, but she clearly needed him in that moment. he knew what she wanted to hear. he also said he feels inferior because he’s just a nerd and she’s a superhero. but she didn’t even have powers in that scene where she was crying. she was just a regular person like him, so why couldn’t he say it? in the next episode, he also admits that if he just said “that thing”, she might’ve taken him with her (he couldn't even specify what it was when he was talking to will). so he knew exactly what she wanted but he still didn’t say it. this entire plot was just added for drama and it feels so unnecessary. he couldn’t even tell her he loved her when she was sobbing in his room but he only could after his best friend convinced him with his painting, monologue and pushed him to when el was in danger. how is that fair? how do people think it’s genuine after all that? “because mike is just insecure and needed a push”???? because that doesn’t change the fact that he has lied to her and made her feel horrible before. it doesn’t change the fact that she was SOBBING in front of him and he was more worried about himself than her feelings. 3 simple words could’ve comforted her and he just couldn’t do it… until his conversation with will? it’s crazy to think about. that’s why all the excuses are just ridiculous. el deserves so much better than this. she deserves to find someone that loves her for who she is, that shares the same interests as her, that she can fully be herself around, and that doesn't care about her powers.
will: his feelings for mike shouldn’t have been used as a plot device to force mike and el back together when they can’t even sort out their own relationship problems. using a gay character’s feelings when he has been abused, targeted, bullied, lonely and suffering since the very beginning of the show is absolutely cruel and unnecessary. he hasn’t even had a moment of happiness and he thinks he’ll never experience love because of his sexuality. it's even more heartbreaking knowing he has loved mike since the beginning but he thinks mike will never love him back and he has to watch him with someone else while he gets pushed to the side. speaking of being pushed to the side, the way mike treated will in season 3 and 4 (especially how he couldn't hug him at the airport) makes absolutely no sense unless he has repressed feelings for will and internalised homophobia because otherwise, mike is just an asshole and there was no need for any of that. his relationship with el never should've affected his relationship with will, especially because will has been his best friend since they were 4 years old and they have the closest relationship in the entire show. also, will's painting for mike was supposed to be a special moment between them only. his love confession was also the most beautiful and genuine thing and it made mike so happy, but he used el’s name to disguise it and it was so painful and heartbreaking to watch. will is also the only reason mike said his monologue to el because he was so inspired by the painting and car monologue and thought it was all from el when it wasn't. it was all from will. even when el was in danger, will still had to push mike to say it. and yet, will is still lonely and heartbroken after being so kind and selfless to everyone around him? he still doesn't get to be happy after everything he's been through? it’s just not fair. they can’t keep doing this to him.
mike: he’s just simply been reduced to el’s boyfriend. we barely even know him anymore and he doesn’t get his own moments. his entire arc this season revolved around not being able to tell el he loved her. like are you actually kidding me? he did nothing this season except be part of el's storyline. he also changes so much when he’s around her. it’s so ridiculous and unfair and his friends have been hurt because of it too. he shouldn’t have to pretend to be someone he’s not in order to impress el. i also feel like so many people forget how much trauma mike has been through and we don’t even get to see any of it. we don’t get to see his POV or feelings or understand what’s going on inside his head. his entire character just revolves around el and it’s not fair. he also deserves to be with someone he feels comfortable with and can actually be himself around. mike has to hide his own interests and he feels embarrassed about himself when he’s with el and he shouldn’t feel like that in his own relationship. sure, some people might use the excuse “they’re just kids” (as always), but it doesn’t change the fact that this has been going on since their relationship started and they’ve never truly felt like equals. they’ve always been different and they always will be. mike deserves to be with someone that loves him for exactly who he is and that brings out the best in him. someone who makes him feel safe and comfortable for being nerdy and passionate. someone who can give him the love he wants and needs. it’s just sad (and unhealthy) to see him in a relationship where he changes so much and obsesses over his girlfriend and treats his friends like garbage to the point where he becomes the most disliked character in the show and the general audience can’t stand him. like if that doesn’t say a lot about how this relationship isn’t good for this character, i don’t know what does.

why isgrian shipping the warden and the wither
#?#serena.txt#serena.live#slsmp spoilers#also grian reeling from jimmys death only to shriek mumbo's name when he dies immediately after and saying ''this wasnt the plan!!''#do i even need to say my whole spiel at this point#so funny to me how grian has multiple times done a thing where hes accidentally caused violence/death for ppl he likes#in the middle of INTENTIONALLY causing violence/death for others#like him killing ren only to realize afterward he'd inadvertently killed big b as well. i dont know#something about him cackling and laughing at scar being chased by the wither#only for him to be all shocked by mumbo dying to the warden. i feel like he had two very different responses there.#if you're someone who takes every opportunity he can get to hurt people. is it any wonder you keep ''accidentally'' hurting#those around you as well?#that girl is dangerous to be around. thats all im saying#we all know this but like friend or foe being with grian is not going to end well for you its just not#now idk if this really counts for widows curse. its tricky this season#etho and cleo are grian's teammates but are they really who hes CLOSEST to? idk.#for me i'd say i don't think either of mumbo's deaths count as like The Death that would continue the tradition#i think it'd have to be etho or cleo for me to count it. but mumbo's deaths definitely fall in line with this same pattern of#people close to grian dying due in some part to him#and hey if etho and cleo dont end up having a death that fits the bill then you KNOW i will actually be taking mumbo's as the one#this is all about my silly little ideas and what suits them best
