Hey dude sorry to bother, it seems you're big on movies and to be honest my knowledge on film is pretty ass, so I came to ask if you have any recommendations. Like movies that permanently altered your brain and such. All I know is I like low budget avant-garde movies, but I'll watch anything really... thanks in advance, have a good one!
HIII ok like number one movie that altered me forever is velvet goldmine (1998) ive seen it like. 5 or 6 times total... its a fake david bowie/iggy pop rpf biopic and i love it dearly.
some other films that altered my brain chemistry: possession (1981), crash (1996), secretary (2002), polyester (1981), suspiria (the 2018 remake), raw (2016), antiviral (2012), nowhere (1997), mysterious skin (2004)
and some recs from the roster of recently watched movies:
since you like low budged avant garde movies i think you would LOVE jesus christ vampire hunter (2001) its exactly what it says on the tin...
if you have 4 hours to spare i suggest watching love exposure (2008) dir. sion sono (again.. after looking up the trigger warnings)
sorry to bother you (2018) is also crazy check it out. Dont look it up go in there blind youll thank me
you can also add me on letterboxd @/pikslasrce <3

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” s6e10 (1997)
Tumblr media
The Magnificent Ferengi, written by Ira Steven Behr and Hans Beimler.
"A child, a moron, a failure, and a psychopath. Quite a little team you've put together!"
Very funny episode. It also provides plenty of thrills, some action and several nice character moments. For Quark and Nog, mostly. Rom, meanwhile, is hilarious in all his scenes. Particularly when the prisoner is first brought aboard the ship, and Rom cheerfully begins to conduct polite introductions.
Iggy Pop guest stars. And is brilliant.
According to IMDb users, this is 36th best episode.
My 764th episode of Star Trek, out of 888.
9/10

All Love Radio 2 💜❤️  A Late 20th Century Rock Music Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre
“Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet” – Kurt Cobain
Our original All Love Radio mix, released in 2021, celebrated the Saint Valentine’s Day holiday with a sugary batch of modern rock ’n’ roll love tunes from the current century; this time we decided to give the nostalgia junkies a treat, so we time-tunnelled back to the late 20th century and brought back a heart-shaped box full of of sweet indie/alt rock confections from the 80s and 90s. Featuring passionate, romantic, and/or heartbroken musical outpourings from XTC, The B-52s, Lyres, the Flatmates, Iggy Pop, Shonen Knife, the dBs, Primal Scream, BMX Bandits, and eleven more bands who want to be somebody’s valentine (maybe yours).

January! A new year of playlists. A new spreadsheet, with improved setup after a year of doing it.
I love playlists curated by people who are knowledgeable or passionate about something, whether it's a genre or a character. This post on tumblr links to a playlist that's a crash course on hip hop and has a GREAT annotated timeline to accompany it. This month's playlist has 'Sound of da Police' by KRS-One on it, one of those songs that is always good as you remember and always a fucking vibe.
Mostly January's playlist vibe is indulgence, it's all songs I enjoy without as much of a throughline. Though I did go on a bit of a The Monkees kick and several songs were ones I encountered watching the new Willow series (which is fun but the music choices are super interesting!).
Anyway here's a link to January's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below the cut.

'I Was Dancing In The Lesbian Bar' - Jonathan Richman

Reading List, Head Peace edition.
"When you finally understand yourself, you no longer understand the world." - Mary Ruefle [Image: Caravaggio by Wolfgang Tillmans, (1997) via Idea.ltd]
* Welcome to the age of inconvenience [Gaby Hinsliff, The Guardian] If the "age of adulting" is over, that means we're just adults now - I'm here for it. [Claire Cohen, Vogue] Digital retailers are struggling, while bricks-and-mortar books giant Barnes & Noble is thriving again. The trick was to put the love of reading first - this is one of the most delightful and uplifting things I've read in a long time. #BoycottAmazon [Ted Gioia, The Honest Broker] The radical design of Pizza Express [Digby Warde-Aldam, Vittles] "It is very rare to open a book and to feel—to know—that the writer did not want us to read it at all, and, in fact, tried to prevent our reading it, and that, in reading the book, we are resurrecting a self that the writer wished, without hesitation or mercy, to kill." The writer who burned her own books [Audrey Wollen, The New Yorker] California's hippie sanctuaries weren't built to last [David Jacob Kramer, GQ Style] In 1976, Nanda Devi Unsoeld died while climbing the massive Indian peak for which she was named. [Svati Kirsten Narula, Outside Magazine] Iggy Pop isn't about to whitewash his past [David Marchese, The New York Times] "All archives are, to some extent, narratives: edited stories of the self or others. What I kept then was a story of myself that felt precious and still, at that point, untold. I wasn’t saving in the hopes of someone else discovering who I was. I think it was much more a case of ensuring my future self’s attention." On opening your childhood boxes and unearthing your teen self [Anne Helen Petersen, Culture Study] News you can use: An extremely useful guide for how to be on time. [Charlotte Cowles, The Cut] And how long, exactly, does wine last after it's opened? (Asking for myself.) [Marissa Ross, Bon Appetit] "Woolf often conceives of life this way: as a gift that you’ve been given, which you must hold onto and treasure but never open. Opening it would dispel the atmosphere, ruin the radiance—and the radiance of life is what makes it worth living." Virginia Woolf's unique idea of inner privacy [Joshua Rothman, The New Yorker] We don’t have to be complicit with destruction, says Robin Wall Kimmerer: "The refusal to be complicit can be a kind of resistance to dominant paradigms, but it’s also an opportunity to be creative and joyful and say, I can’t topple Monsanto, but I can plant an organic garden." [David Marchese, The New York Times]

Diamond Dogs celebran 30 años de rock n'roll en 12 conciertos de aniversario
Tumblr media
22 DE MAYO. WOLF, BARCELONA 23 DE MAYO. CLAMORES, MADRID 24 DE MAYO. ROCK & BLUES, ZARAGOZA 25 DE MAYO. LOCO CLUB, VALENCIA 26 DE MAYO. LEMON ROCK, GRANADA (SON EG) 27 DE MAYO. LA GUARIDA DEL ÁNGEL, JEREZ 28 DE MAYO. BABYLON, LEÓN 29 DE MAYO. GARUFA CLUB, A CORUÑA 30 DE MAYO. FACTORÍA, AVILÉS 31 DE MAYO. ALDEAROCK, ALDEA DE SAN MIGUEL (VALLADOLID) 1 DE JUNIO. AREATZA MUSIK & BEER, AREATZA 2 DE JUNIO. OCTAVO ARTE, SEGOVIA (WIC)
Too Much Is Always Better… Than Not Enough’ (2022), además de muchos otros clásicos y sorpresas de su repertorio.
El rock ha muerto, ¡larga vida al rock!

2023: The Year in Green's Party
This was a historic year for my blog as it turned 10! In Jan. 2013 I began this blog as a way to share my thoughts on pop culture and since then I've gotten to do things I never even imagined would be possible: interviewing filmmakers, actors, musicians, authors and more; reviewing movies, music, concerts, books, and theater; covering conventions and film festivals; and connecting with fans who also have their hands on the pulse of pop culture at the moment and it's history. This was hands down one of my best years yet! Here are just a few of the highlights:

It was a sad year for Gen X: in May MTV News announced they were ceasing operations; and there was also the passing of Andy Rourke of The Smiths, Sinead O'Connor, and Paul Reubens, all staples of the 80s and 90s :(
The Police never ended: It's as if I got to see a Police reunion this year because I got to cover guitarist Andy Summers' concert in July, singer / bassist Sting's concert in September, and while I didn't see drummer Stewart Copeland live, I did get to cover his book The Police Diaries in October!
Tough year for physical media fans like me between Netflix ending it's DVD by mail service and Best Buy announcing they're going to stop selling DVDs. Time to go to my local library more often for DVDs and blu-rays!

2018 - Tony Bennett
Verve Records held a launch party at the Rainbow Room in New York City to celebrate the release of Tony Bennett and Diana Krall's album Love Is Here To Stay. After the duo performed their rendition of 'Fascinating Rhythm,' Guinness World Records adjudicator Alex Angert announced Bennett - who first recorded the tune under the stage name Joe Bari over 68 years earlier - was now the title holder for "the longest time between the release of an original recording and a re-recording of the same single."
2011 - Bob Dylan
It was reported that a Swedish Bob Dylan fan had been arrested for singing Bob Dylan songs outside his ex-girlfriends house. The love-sick man had also cobbled together a group of five other men to serve as vocal accompaniment for the late-night live performance, each of who donned hoodies with their hoods up. But soon after the man began to serenade his ex, who had previously taken out a restraining order against him, she called the police, leaving 50-year-old guitarist blowin in the wind. 'I had the idea that I'd play a Bob Dylan song for her,' the man told police. (No word on which song, unfortunately.)
2008 - Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson was one of the pilots who flew specially chartered flights after 85,000 tourists were stranded in the US, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe after Britain's third-largest tour operator went into administration. The singer, who had worked for the airline Astraeus for nine years, took up flying during a low point in his solo career after he quit the band in 1993.
1997 - Jimi Hendrix
Over 2000 fans watched Pete Townshend unveil a English Heritage Blue Plaque at 23 Brook Street, Mayfair London, to mark where Jimi Hendrix had lived in 1968-69. Hendrix was the first pop star to be awarded with the plaque.
1995 - The Beatles
The lyrics to The Beatles song 'Getting Better' hand-written by Paul McCartney sold for £161,000 at a Sotheby's auction in London.
1984 - David Bowie
David Bowie won Video of the year for 'China Girl' at the first MTV Video awards. The song co-written by David Bowie and Iggy Pop during their years in Berlin, first appeared on Pop's album The Idiot released in 1977.
1981 - The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones played a secret pre-tour warm-up show at the Sir Morgan's Cove club in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA. Billed as Little Boy Blue & The Cockroaches, a local radio station announced that the Stones were in town, resulting in the club being besieged by over 4,000 fans attempting to get into the 350-person venue. Police were drafted in to control the crowds, which resulted in eleven fans being arrested.
1974 - Eric Clapton
Eric Clapton scored a US No.1 with his version of the Bob Marley song 'I Shot The Sheriff' which was first released in 1973 on The Wailers' album Burnin'. Clapton's version was included on his 1974 album 461 Ocean Boulevard.
1971 - Led Zeppelin
During a US tour Led Zeppelin appeared at Berkley Community Theatre, Berkley, California. Countless major acts have appeared here, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Van Morrison, The Kinks, Bruce Springsteen, Genesis, Elvis Costello, The Clash, Iggy Pop and David Bowie.
1968 - Roy Orbison
Roy Orbison's house in Nashville burnt down, his two eldest sons both died in the blaze. Orbison was on tour in the UK at the time of the accident.
1968 - Archies
The first episode of the comic strip 'The Archies' was aired on US TV. The recording group had contributions from Ron Dante, Andy Kim, Jeff Barry and others. Rock mogul, Don Kirshner (who also brought us The Monkees) was put in charge of the studio group. The following year The Archies started a eight-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Sugar Sugar,' becoming the longest running One Hit Wonder in the UK.
