Family [Mitsuhide]

Day 20: Family (Noun): the children of one person or one couple collectively

There was a strange kind of peace running throughout the castle whenever Mitsuhide brought his child with him. It’s as if the entirety of Azuchi castle had come to a complete halt whenever Mitsuhide decided to put his child to sleep against his chest and shoulder as he wandered the hallways, suddenly gently silent.

No one ever dares to interrupt the Kitsune; Not Nobunaga, and certainly not Masamune - The sight’s far too endearing, after all. Who would’ve expected the ‘oh-so-mysterious’ Akechi Mitsuhide to be so clingy to his child? But the small, barely-there smile against his lips always told them otherwise. Perhaps this was what he truly was like, beneath all the snarky and difficult-to-discern persona? What a sight. Truly.

It wasn’t strange to see Mitsuhide with his child.... At least, not for you. The two were practically inseparable, save for the numerous times Mitsuhide left for work and the feeding hours. In fact, you could- and would- swear that your baby girl would grow to be exactly like Mitsuhide is and was. Snarky, talkative and perhaps teasing, too… Although she seemed to be quite sensitive, given how she seemed to gabble and gargle in what appears to be worry whenever she witnessed her stressed daddy or distressed mummy.

Walking silently behind your husband, a gentle smile takes over your lips as you watch your daughter raise her head in your direction and grab at you, obviously not the slightest interested in sleeping. And Mitsuhide just shushes her gently with a patting hand against her back, knowing full well of you following him. Your daughter, Asami, tilts a head towards her father, and coos, cleverly pointing towards you in excitement.

You just giggle, pulling a face in her direction- something you had been doing since you had spotted them just minutes earlier.

“Yes, yes. Your mother has been making you happy, hasn’t she? Cheeky little mouse, pulling faces at you when you’re supposed to be sleeping.”

Mitsuhide isn’t really mad though- you can hear the smile in his voice- and he turns around to face you, suddenly giving up on putting her to sleep for the moment. Innocently, you smile at him as you wink at your daughter. Asami giggles again, clapping her tiny hands in amusement.

The same amused smile is adorned on your husband’s face as you reach up to retrieve your baby girl from his hands.

“Come on,” you grin, placing a hand on her back, “Let’s put you to sleep on the porch. I know how much you like the sun’s warmth.”

Golden eyes bore into your back as you speak, gently smiling as Asami’s eyes seem to focus on your nose. Drawing you into his arms and encircling them around Asami, he boops her nose to capture her attention- an action that surprises her into giggling once again. But all he does is place a hand on your back, gently ushering you to the nearest courtyard with a quick, “She needs her sleep now…”.

You just grin, shaking your head in response, taking a seat beneath the shade of a petal-dropping Sakura tree and setting Asami against your knee. Mitsuhide, taking a seat flush against you, draws you in by the waist as the ‘baby mouse’ begins to yawn. But as you draw her to your chest, your husband gently takes her from your arms and into his own, taking note of your exhausted self. You relent, sighing quietly at your observant husband.

And he hums, golden eyes rising to watch the varying shades of pink petals fall to the ground. His voice, sonorous, soothes both yourself and Asami and you find your head also tilted towards his other shoulder; eyes gently closing as you drift into oblivion.

Above the courtyard and in the tenshu, Nobunaga and Masamune watch the family peacefully put their young one to sleep. It’s silent, until the elder of the pair laughs, uttering a quick “‘bout time he’s found a life for himself,” as he catches the sight of your head falling on Mitsuhide’s other shoulder.

Grinning silently, Masamune just watches as Mitsuhide struggles slightly, having had both arms filled with baby and his shoulders weighed down by his family.
