id start off from batman #408 (1987) to batman #429 (1989), that’s where jason first appears, his robin time and up to the death in the family arc (#426-429). so like the very crucial readings. special shoutout to #416. it was dick bruce jason heavy and i like it (i wrote a paragraph for this but i elected to erase it because i wrote down a shit ton of spoilers lol)

new titans #55 is a good one. there’s no jason there because he’s like dead but dick finds out about his death in that one and i am profoundly fond of dick and his older sibling guilt 😼 so including it here

ATTRACTION: It was your hair. You seem to have dyed your hair into duotones but did you not get alienated by society? It made him wonder if you had similar troubles as him in the past. Or did you not care at all of what others think or say? He wanted to know more about you.

EXPLORATION: You were the one who came up to talk to him. He was eyeing you so intensely that you could feel it. When you look up and make eye contact with him, your face turns into shock. "Great, she must've think I'm a creep," he thought. But it was the opposite, you were shocked by his eyes. It made you want to talk to him, so you do. Soon, he was able to ask you his question he held on and realized you never dyed it. It was naturally white like his but yours looked perfectly placed. "I wished I had heterochromia because it looks cooler," you say in one of your conversations. "Instead, I'm stuck with this white patch of hair." Hearing that made him feel down but not for long because you immediately add, "But somehow, yours are perfectly symmetrical. It's cool!" You giggled at the end. He can sense your words are genuine.

DEEPENING: It took him awhile to be physical with you. He finds it endearing, and lovable that you are never bothered by it. You are never impatient and always lets him take his time that it bothers him instead! How are you always so calm about it and never seem to complain? It scares him that one day you might get bored and leave him. Sure there's plenty of fish in the sea, but to find one like you, will never be easy. Someone who doesn't judge him, someone who doesn't get disappointed at what he does, someone that loves him like your life depended on it. Someone who doesn't judge, right. You won't judge him nor be disappointed if he wants to hold your hand too. His hand kept fidgeting until he finally reached yours. That same surprised face the first time you met him showed on you. It wasn't judgemental, disappointment or disgust. It was admiration, envy and love.

COMMITMENT: From all the nice and sweet words, praises and encouragement throughout your years of being together, he had grown more comfortable with you. He has become more vocal when it comes to you. He's able to voice out his worries and wants a little bit more easier than the first few months of dating. You were happy and proud. But when his actions are more flirtatious than usual, the distance between you two is smaller, and his eye is serious, you realize he wasn't joking this time. It was a roller-coaster ride for this phase. Sometimes, the things he likes are the things you don't—and he loves to tease you about it—but you two learned how to compromise with each other and the process deepened your relationship with him.

DEEPENING: He didn't hesitate to hold your hand for the first time. You were on a date, walking with him. He just felt like holding your hand that time so he asked for permission first. He was truly happy to hear you're okay with it. In crowded places, he will subconsciously pull you closer to his chest so he won't lose you. It's the kind where he grabs your farther shoulder and pulls you in. That's his habit. He even does it even before he asks to hold hands. He also doesn't mind—and loves it deeply—when you cling onto his arm because he always has his hands held together behind his back. When you do this, his existing smile stretches even more. Sometimes you can almost see the flowers and shine around him from how elated he is.

COMMITMENT: He was quick to notice that he wants you in his life. He wants you in both of your house, he wants to see you behind the kitchen counter preparing dinner after he comes back from patrol, he wants to help you carry the heavy laundry bag and do the laundry for you, he wants to kiss your forehead or your lips before leaving for work, he wants to make tea for you. He doesn't get scared of the commitment because he can take on that responsibility like an adult. And of course, he has a ring on one hand, waiting for you to say yes but allowing you to take deep breaths after crying from joyfulness.

watcher world will ALWAYS be one of the best nightmare time episodes to me because im in awe at how in its relatively short (37 ish minutes [apologies it’s more like 50 minutes]) run time it juggles multiple themes, character traits, and conflicts

the constant repetition of Alice being a “little girl” when she wants to be treated like an adult. The ticket taker’s comment on “daddy’s little girl…she’ll always be your little girl,” Bill’s emphasis on “daddy-daughter” time. Bill asking Alice to “grow up” and Alice saying he won’t let her. The Blinky mascot saying creepy things to her (a sadly common impetus for girls/women for “growing up”). The carnival barker at the strong man game coaching Bill’s treatment of Alice as if Alice was a child (“needs an ass whooping”) instead of an adult. Additionally, the barker kissing Bill on the cheek could be the infantilization of Alice flipped onto Bill to show just how uncomfortable it is [side note, the emphasis on ‘possession’ (Alice belongs to Bill, his little girl) could be a reference to Bill’s disappointment with the custody situation after the divorce].

Bill’s dismissiveness of Alice’s aspirations. Despite constantly reiterating she has “time to think about it,” he inadvertently shrugs off her aspiration to be a playwright twice until he is forced to confront it on the tear jerker. It shows that though Bill complains Alice does not let him in to her life, she is attempting that connection but he is fumbling it.

Privacy. Alice’s instagram initially being private before allowing Bill in. Alice saying she doesn’t want Bill to know about her life. Possibly Deb and Ziggy’s past relationship/current relations when Alice can’t be there. The people in line to the tear jerker (“what she can’t see won’t hurt her”). Obviously the security cameras and all-knowing abilities of Blinky. But also Snigglet sharing her deepest aspiration, before being ultimately (though indirectly) punished for it [side note, perhaps the sniggles performance was a parallel to Alice’s fear of opening up to her father?].

Attribution of blame. It’s the phone. It’s Alice. It’s Bill. It’s your mother. The reality is a combo of all of these. If Bill had been more receptive to Alice, if Alice was more open about her fear of roller coasters, perhaps he wouldn’t have encouraged her to go on the tear jerker. [side note, Alice’s play was a parallel to her story in TGWDLM, right? I mean the vampire can be interpreted as Deb, a not so great influence on her. Both Deb and Alice are gay, and they die in the end of TGWDLM. That’s the ending the judges—Pokey, the Lords in Black—want. But that’s the ending that the audience does not want. The audience wants them to live. TGWDLM is scary. It is funny. Just rambling at this point but anyway I think watcher world is full of so much symbolism!!]

you were definetly the most unique demon Dante had come across, too demon for humanity but too human in your traits for hell and your fellow demons who refused to claim you as their own.

even when Dante asked 'what are you' upon finding you in utter awe of the butterflies and baby birds that found their resting spots on your arm, completely unbothered by your stare as you admired the beautiful and unique patterns upon the backs of every butterfly and how each bird had their own song to sing.

they had something that was undefiably them and you couldn't help but be fasinated by that.

'im a human.' you told Dante with certaintly as you smiled widely, showing off your sharp array of teeth.

dante scoffs 'yeah and im the king of the butterflies and flying pigs.' never having heard such bullshit in his entire life.

your eyes widened as you rushed towards him at fast speeds, scaring off the birds and the butterflies from your arm. 'really? and here i thought you were a human like me, but a king? wow' you said

Dante knew you were most likely abandoned as a small demon child to the realm of humans, never knowing your true origins and truly thinking that you were human, and with no knowledge of your origins you weren't even aware of the tense relationship between demons and humans.

the constant threats of war breaking out that hung overhead of both specices, hanging on by a singluar thread that was threatning to snap at any given moment.

so for a demon to claim humanity was almost blastphamous. almost a joke that made Dante laught, but the way you were certain that you were human only made him belive that you weren't pulling his leg.

'if you're human, then how come you can run fast?' dante asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

you merely shrug as your demonic wings that upon closer inspection, mimiced the likes of a moth with how they fluttered and twitched. 'just the power of being a cutie patootie.' you replied

Dante couldn't help but laugh at your response, finding himself growing more and more at ease with you, finding your obliviousness of your true nature somewhat sad becuase if you truly belived you were human...then how did you perseve the hostility of other humans?

did you view it in confusion, not knowing why parents drag their children from you, or how hostility was only directed towards you and not another human.

even if you did save a human life, humanity would never claim you as one of their own for in their eyes, you were nothing more then a demon tricking them, planning to destroy them when you were only a golden hearted being who truly was confused by their origins.

you still helped despite knowing the treatment you'll recieve for having horns, fangs, teeth and insdestructable armour like skin.

dante could see himself in you, for he himself will always claim he's human first, demon second but still will face treatment that full fledged demons will, human hostility and threats of violence.

not everyone was going to accept you, but at least you would have someone who would at least understand you.

'doggy!' you cry as you dashed over to the puppy with dante close behind, tired and exhausted with how much of a pain in the ass it'll be to keep up with you when it came to your weakness; cute things. 'you seriously ran through several blocks for a puppy?' he asks.

'wouldn't you?' you asked, holding the puppy gently as it licked your face, animals were great judges of character ans Dante supossed he shouldn't be surpised that they could tell you were effectively harmless to them. still the image of a dog licking the face of a fearsome demon reject from hell was a sight to behold.

all Dante knew was that Enzo would have a health problem if he saw you, even if you were holding a cute puppy to your face, and seeing as he wasn't close with anyone else he knew that he couldn't say anything for your saftey and he knew that while you can hold your own physically...mentally however was a competely different case.

would you absolutely loose your shit if you saw that everything you told yourself was a lie? would you loose yourself to your true nature and act out? he didn't know nor wanted to know if even seeing your own reflection wouldn't deter you from believing your human, then what will?

so many questions, so little anwsers. it was already giving him a unecessary headache that will only end in heartbreak.

you were certainly a uniuqe demon, too unique for either side to understand but Dante understood enough to know that sooner or later you'll have to choose; your own demonic bretheren or huamnity that wont hesitate to kill you should you display traits they don't like.

'i guess your're not wrong there.' dante says as he joins you and the dog, scratching it under it's chin before watching you mimic his actions, being careful of your claws but the puppy didn't seem to care as it only leaned further into your hand, content with the affection as you smile and coo over the puppy.

but Dante hopes -even if it was a little hopeless to do so- that despite it all, you get to still be you...
