Note
im sure you've either got this a lot or have seen it a lot but do you have any tips for starting out? I'm not sure where to begin at all and it's a bit overwhelming.. i wanna figure out what kinda deities there are, what type a religions there are (like pagan or wicca), and just very basic starting points. Or do you really have to do all that? And if you do happen to miss on things like yule, etc its not like? bad right?? or brings bad luck? i dont really know about any/all the ""rules"" per say
Staring out, it’s best to know that you should follow your intuition and never let other pagans tell you what is the ‘right’ way or wrong way to do something. Throughout your spiritual journey you will discover that your views will differ from other pagans, even if they preach something as absolute truth. Nothing is absolute truth and I believe that your own truth is more important. Do lots of research about lots of different beliefs, practices and deities and stick to what you think is right for you.
I agree that starting out is very overwhelming and confusing. Paganism is an umbrella term for many different cultures and practices and belief systems, Wicca being just one of them. Other kinds of pagans include druids (celtic deities and/or nature worship), heathens (Norse deity worship) and hellenic (greek deity worship), but you don’t have to choose just one. Eclectic pagans, pagans who take deities and beliefs/ practices from different things, create their own unique spiritual practice that suits them. I am an eclectic myself but my practice is closely taken from wicca in s couple of ways (I follow the wheel of the year and incorporate witchcraft into my practice) I learned most of what I know from Wicca and if that interests you, you can always start with that. In Wicca they believe in one god and one goddess, who have a role in the wheel of the year (the changing of seasons). Wiccans also use witchcraft as a major part of their practice and worship (well usually they do!). Yule is the Winter Solstice. It’s a holiday and celebration of the return of the sun, as the days from then on begin to grow longer as spring arrives. Basically, you wouldn’t get bad luck if you missed celebrating Christmas haha, so why would you with this?
Yule is part of the wheel of the year which marks seasonal changes, the celebration of life and rejuvenation as well as marking different Harvest festivals. I personally celebrate Yule on Christmas just because it’s easier to do with friends and family but I treat it as my yule celebration. Do whatever works for you!
This website helped me a lot when I was starting out https://www.thoughtco.com/pagan-gods-and-goddesses-2561985
You can find a lot of info there. Remember your research will never really end, you will be learning about new things for a long time throughout your spiritual journey. It’s important to do a lot of research.
