... But seriously ... this is another unique thing about the performance art collective that is Hatari.

Here we are, nearly 18 months after ESC and serious news outlets are still asking the dancers for their opinions about international politics

When has that ever happened in ESC? When did we even know dancers', or backing musicians' names before?

That's not usually how these things work.

In summary ... occasionally I stand back from the daily grind of pleasant obsession and am amazed all over again ...

... Having said all that ...

The other thing that hits you in the chest when you read this (even badly translated by Google), is just how hard on everyone ESC was.

I mean, I understood it in principle, and have tried to imagine what it must have been like for a bunch of people -- most of whom seem to be rather quiet and sensitive by temperament -- to actually DO that. To go there. To do that.

I remember how surprised and inspired I was by the last IMN video (Together), with really brought us out of the bubble. And how fearless Dísa seemed ... the unstable atmosphere hanging around, even at a peaceful gathering to mourn, was palpable. That was when I realised how really, really serious the Hatari project is. How much they’d invested in going.

I’m not sure what my point is, exactly -- it’s just that -- well -- I’ve always felt a little weird about basically sticking to jokes and light content in my own appreciation, when I was perfectly well aware of all this undercurrent. All this reality.

But, unlike them, I don’t have platform, or a response that I can properly or meaningfully articulate.

Other than gratitude that someone did it. And that it was some someones I could genuinely admire.

I’m looking forward to eventually seeing ASCH -- but even the tiny snippets we’ve seen so far (trailer aside) -- do make it seem like it might be a bit of a wrench.

Does this make any sense at all?

I’m just a pair of specs, I’m not good at emotions.
