Imomo dolls have such high potential, but I don't like people simply praising them for being "cheaper alternative to mdds/puyoodolls" because I feel like that will just set people up for disappointment.

The sculpts and designs of the bodies and heads are so cute and fantastic! And the fact that they offer tan bodies for no additional cost and have them highly available is great!

But the internal structure and joints of these dolls are so badly designed it's ridiculous. I don't care how "cheap" a doll is (and honestly, the $60-100 they charge is not that cheap), the HEAD SHOULD STAY ON THE BODY. I originally ordered the 1st release of the Miko body, but then had to order the v2 after the 1st one broke while trying to fix the joints. Here's all the issues I encountered:

1. I had to cut the ankle and knee pegs on both bodies so that they'll actually fit with their body parts and the calves wouldn't look detached and just helicopter around on their pegs. The 2nd body literally came with the pegs of the knees and ankles exposed because they were so long. (cutting the ankles is how I broke the 1st one btw)

2. I had to add tape or nail polish top coat to the pegs in the shoulders, thighs, ankles, knees, and neck so that they wouldn't be loose or keep popping out. This worked ok for most of these, but the thighs are still pretty loose. If I move the legs up, they will immediately fall back down unless the knees are flexed as well. It was a pain in the ass trying to get the thighs back on the pegs btw. It literally took me almost an hour to do that alone.

3. The insides can be seen through the bust seamline easily, and the bust/neck peg want to pop off frequently. It's almost like the bust part doesn't even fit on the torso. I feel like it's less noticeable with the large bust though.

4. I ordered the silicone neck donuts you're supposed to put on the neck before the head so it doesn't wobble and fall off as much (sold separately), but it does basically nothing. I used both donuts (one on the neck and one inside the head), and both of the silicone screw things, but still had to jam pieces of a wedge sponge in the back of her head to stop the wobbling. (The wobbling is also worse when you put on a wig, the weight of it automatically pulls the head back if it's long at all)

5. I ordered the extra pairs of hands, but will likely never be able to use them because it's so impossible to take the hands off. I would try heating them, but they're such a hard plastic compared to DD hands that I'm not sure if it would even help and I'd be worried about breaking it.

6. Not really a major issue, but I guess the heads are also too smooth to keep a wig on properly, so I had to use a silicone headcap. In my experience, faceups seem more likely to chip or get damaged, similarly to resins. I think there just isn't much grip on the plastic.

Overall, I did not enjoy the Imomo experience and wouldn't recommend one to someone unless they REALLY wanted an affordable 1/4 tan anime doll. Otherwise I don't think they're worth it. I've seen some people say that their dolls arrived with none of the above issues, but that just tells me that their quality control is awful. The doll feels really janky and like she'll just explode into pieces at any moment, so I'm too afraid to pose or play with her. The price doesn't really justify these issues imo, because you can just buy other dolls for similar prices that are fully functioning out of the box.

If Imomo was to fix these issues I would be singing their praises to the heavens, because the outer designs of these dolls are impeccable! But the inner workings need a LOT of fixing.

Redressed and rewigged some of my dolls after a long time and they're looking SO CUTE! I especially really liked the brown/blonde wig on my Imomo, it suits her so well! 🥰

I recently bought an Imomo doll Miko! If everything goes according to plan, I plan on making her into a mini Frieren! I think her serene or somber sculpt, with a rounder face, will lend well for Frieren. I really like the Volks Dollfie for Frieren, but I think a rounder face would have made her a little bit more on-model, annnnd... well, Miko was about $100 shipped, which is quite a bit cheaper than the Volks Frieren price tag, ahaha. :'D

I've read that vinyl Imomo doll bodies can be kind of floppy, so I am prepared to stabilize her with teflon tape, wire, and even hot glue if needed. If I like her well enough, I am planning on ordering an Apsu. More anime-elf doll talk below the cut, ahaha.

I think Apsu would lend well to be a mini Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon)'s Marcille!

I think if Volks was to do a Dungeon Meshi collab I probably wouldn't be able to resist getting an official Marcille doll, but at least they would be in different scales and probably have different hairstyles anyways!

Assuming I really like the Imomo dolls to justify getting a third 1/4 scale girl, I think I might get a Mie to shell Elf (or Sui) from Ojisan Isekai/Uncle from Another World.

I think Mie looks a lot like Miko - I think the biggest difference might be in her ears? - but I think Sui's design looks distinct enough from Frieren that it won't be a problem.

I love Uncle from Another World but I find it highly unlikely that there will be much in regards to new merch for the show (especially since season 1 has caught up to the manga already...) and getting a Sui dollfie would probably be highly unprobeable (lol), but I look forward to getting a little Sui. :)

Until I started thinking about which doll would suit which character, though, I hadn't noticed all three girls have green eyes. I think I've found reasonable eyes for all three on etsy already, so now I'm just on the hunt for a wig and stockings for Frieren. All of them will be getting removable elf ears but I am not sure if the 1/3 DD scale ears by GoldDin (recommended for their head size) would be too big for my tastes.

I think it looks really good on @catfishy2u's custom MDD Frieren, though! So I am probably over thinking it, ahaha, since I tend to veer towards smaller elf ears for my bjds... so I think that's messing with my perception a little bit. I did buy some elf ears secondhand for dollfie by B. A. F. Studio (unsure where they sell their products but I think they're Japanese) potentially for Marcille or a future dollfie.

I'll be testing the fit on Miko when both parts get here. Supposedly Miko will be here tomorrow, but I think Tuesday/Wednesday is more likely, but we will see! Although, seeing all three girls together, I think maybe the BAF ears would be better for Sui - Marcille's ears seem to be bigger like Frieren's in comparison. We shall see!

sneak peek. i got in a new Imomo 1/4 doll body for a head i have on order. the body came with a head so i can at least get an idea of how the wig looks. i can't wait for the rest of her to arrive, but no ETA yet so you can be in suspense with me. it's been a long time since i got a vinyl style doll. place bets now on how long it takes for her to develop a stain! name and better pics will wait once she is complete. but she is going to be an older sibling to my Er Xi.

Coco doll update! I wanted to record the process of styling her wig but it turned out to be more tricky than anticipated so I did it off cam. I'm really happy with the hat, it just needs a small button on the white flap to tie the look together. Also-I made it without a pattern or a mockup. Eyeballed all of it in one sitting and really enjoyed the whole process haha. It was also my first time making a tassel this small but it turned out cute. Coco is a 1/4 ImomoDoll Apsu. Imomo neck joint mod because the default connector is... very floppy to say the least. Upper rod part of imomo neck joint was cut prior to these pictures, used hot water to soften the neck in order to remove the lower piece.

White piece is from Taobao - third-party piece for converting Dollfie Dream neck joints to be compatible with BJD slot-style head attachment.

Gorilla glue and Apoxie used to connect, but someone with CAD and a 3d printer could definitely make a version of the white piece that's already compatible with the imomo neck piece.
