VAU'S reluctance to talk about Sev in ImpComm:
I think it's odd how defensive Vau was when Gilamar asked him if he'd made any progress locating Sev. He gave a short non-answer and then changed the subject, saying that finding Niner and Darman was "first things first" since He, Kal, and the Nulls already knew their location.
It's obvious to me that Vau cared alot about Delta Squad, especially Sev perhaps. Maybe it was a defense mechanism. Maybe he needed to continue to uphold his stone-cold persona, for his own sake as well as what he thought was theirs. But it still seems odd that he wouldn't go into it in more detail, especially because Gilamar really wanted Vau to know they wanted to prioritize Sev's rescue. I got the feeling that Vau knew a lot more than what he was saying, as is usual for him I suppose. He must have had reasons for wanting to wait. Or maybe he didn't want Delta to end up at Kyrimorut. The rest of Delta and presumably others of his former squads were with the 501st. If I were Vau, I wouldn't want my trainees to end up at Kyrimorut.
Maybe he thought Sev would be more fulfilled and useful on Kashyyyk and didn't want to risk a blowout argument with Kal about it. Enacca was looking for Sev, after all.
Vau is the best at what he does. I would actually be very surprised if he hadn't already located Sev and was withholding the information.
The other, much more morbid possibility is that Vau really can't find Sev, or has found him and something horrible has happened to him, and he won't talk about it. I think this option is far less likely, considering everything we know about what KT might have been planning for Sev.

I’m on on the novel 501st in the Republic Commando series. It’s been a bit of a time getting through the books at times since they are so thick but I have really enjoyed getting a glimpse into clone culture and all that. It’s really great stuff. But for the life of me, I HATE how EVERYONE is trying to hook up like it’s a fucking given. I really don’t like how a clone fancies a woman and whoa big surprise, she fancies him and then is completely sucked into the void Kal Skirata creates. Like no one else’s culture, language, or anything survives. It’s all mando shit. I feel bad for Laseema, the only nonhuman to be a part of the family. The books say almost nothing about her and I think she’s gotta be one of the more interesting characters theoretically. A Twi’lek adopted by a bunch of humans. She falls in love with a clone but we learn nothing about her side of things. The only woman who was really fully fleshed out is killed off. And just. meh. I know this series was written by a woman and I know it’s about the clones and all that but god does this series suck for women. All the female characters pretty much get sucked in, bed a clone, and then give up their homes, jobs, culture, and anything and everything to go play house and cook food for a bunch of men. The book tries I guess to emphasize that “female mandos fight too!” but god, if you’re not getting hitched to a man, what are you even doing, basically. Ny I think gets the worst of it. She merely comes around a few times to help them out and now all the clones are like, hey we need a mom. Sidenote: I know this book was written in a...different time, but no one, not a single character is gay and that just sucks.

Requesting some more love for Boss please!
Wanted
Summary: You and Boss are on the run from the Empire.
Pairing: Clone Commando Boss x Reader
Word Count: 944
Warnings: None
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: I'm not sure I'm happy with this, but I have a migraine forming, so this is all I have. Sorry.

“Rules are meant to be broken,” You proclaim, as you wave your wrench towards Boss, who stares at you with a single raised brow.
“That thought, cyare, is why you’re wanted on 13 planets.”
“Wrong!” Your wrench slips out of your hand and clatters to the floor of the ship loudly, “That’s because the Empire ain’t shit!”
He rolls his eyes, “Anyway,” Boss says, “Since we can no longer hide on Daiyu-”
“-that isn’t my fault-” You interrupt.
“Since we can’t hide out on Daiyu anymore,” Boss continues as if you hadn’t spoken, “Where should we go next?”
You stoop to pick up your wrench and shove it into its place, “Outer Rim, maybe? Or Wild Space is an option.”
“I was kind of hoping that you would offer a name,” Boss says with a sigh, “But sure, let’s start with Outer Rim worlds, they’re not likely to bend to the Empire.”
You grin at him, and enthusiastically fling your arms around his neck. He sighs but wraps his arms around your waist, “How about Tatooine?”
“Mm. Sand, sun, slaves, and Hutts. My four most favorite things in the galaxy.” Boss says sarcastically.
You laugh, “No one will look for us there.” You tempt.
“Right. Until you somehow piss off the Hutt Cartel and we have to run from both the Empire and the Hutts.”
“You make it sound like I go around insulting people all the time.” You say with a pout.
“You told the Grand Moff to take a long walk off a short pier and then broke his nose, and frankly I’m surprised that you lived to meet me in the first place.”
“I take issue with fascists.” You sniff.
He lightly squeezes your hips, “I need you to chill the fuck out, cyare. I’m looking for my brothers, which I can’t do when we’re being chased from Imperial worlds.”
“So you want me to behave?”
“That would be a nice change from normal.” Boss counters.
You rest your forehead against his chest plate, and then sigh, “Fine. We can hide out on Tatooine, just long enough for the heat to die down, and then we’ll go back to Imperial space and look for Fixer, Scorch, and Sev.”
“Thank you, cyare.” He kisses your forehead and then releases you to head towards the cockpit, “The ship isn’t going to fall apart on me when I try to jump to hyperspace, is it?”
“No! Er…probably not.”
“Try to keep the ship from blowing up on us, please cyare.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll do my best.” You turn back to the engines, and open the net to run a quick google search.
While you know how you ended up in this situation (a comedy of errors that started with you getting into a fist fight with someone who used to be part of the 501st and ended with you on the run from the Empire with a former Clone Commando), sometimes you have a hard time comparing what your life used to be to what it’s become.
You were an art student, once. Sure, an art student with anarchist tendencies who was anti government and anti war and went to protests and organized riots from time to time, but you were still an art student.
And now here you are, slowly working your way up the Empires shit list.
Honestly, the best thing that’s happened to you in the last year is meeting Boss.
You glance towards the cockpit, where Boss is removing some of the bulkier pieces of his armor for comfort, and a small smile crosses your face.
Boss just appeared on your doorstep about a year ago. He had been beaten half to death and needed help, and you’re still not sure how he found you, but you’re glad that he did.
You managed to patch him up, and when he admitted that there was something rotten in the former Republic and that he was looking for his brother, you jumped at the chance to help him.
Anything was better than sitting around and watching as Palpatine destroyed everything good and honest and true in the galaxy.
And six months after that, when you were hiding from Imperial soldiers on Dantooine, you kissed him. And he kissed you back. And then he kissed you again and again.
And now here you are, six months later, in a relationship with a man who you never would have met if the Empire hadn’t taken over.
Silver linings, right?
“Cyare? How are we looking?” Boss calls from the cockpit.
“I think we’re good. At least, according to the schematics I’m looking at online.” You say as you step out of the engine room and shut the door behind you.
He glances at you, “Alright. Then grab your seat, and we’ll see if we can’t make it to Tatooine.” You grin and climb into the co-pilot’s seat, tucking your feet under you, you turn your attention on him, and smile adoringly.
“What?”
“Just thinking about how we met.” You reply.
He glances at you, and a small smile crosses his face, “Smartest thing I’ve ever done. Right up there with kissing you on Dantooine and that night on Rishi.”
“You really liked that night on Rishi.” You say with a laugh.
“I liked the outfit you were wearing, and the way you looked under the moonlight,” Boss says easily, “And I really liked the way that you looked at me.”
You laugh and stretch out, “I really liked that night on Rishi too. We should do that more often.”
“Once we’re safe.” Boss promises, he focuses on the navigation computer, “Ready to go, cyare?”
“Ready.”

There were clones who liked their Jedi officers, or hated them, or didn't know them well enough to have an opinion, and there were clones who felt the Jedi had simply used up troopers' lives in their plan to overthrow the government. But most of them carried out the order, and for one reason - lawful orders couldn't be ignored when you felt like it. The army was there to do the bidding of elected governments, not to decide policy for itself. Orders came from those who had the bigger picture when you didn't.

Which books is Arla in do you know? Asking for me please and thank you
She's in Order 66: A Republic Commando Novel and Imperial Commando: 501st, but like. Mind my warning in the last ask, she is not anywhere close to how I write her in those books. She has no agency, she's still suffering from Tor's brainwashing, and a "Jedi" helps her by wiping all of her memories and then marries her, and she's promptly relegated to the literal kitchen, where she helps all the other women prepare food for the men. It's kind of infuriating.

Another great thing about his buy’ce, the distinctive Mandalorian helmet, was that the visor could not only give aging eyes a sharp view in infrared, low light, and UV, with a range of two kilometers, but also enlarge the infuriatingly small print on food packaging.

“Hokan thought the kindest thing was to kill you all rather than let you live as slaves to the Jedi.”
Fi smiled. “It’s good to know everyone has sensible reasons for wanting us dead, Doc. I’d hate to be killed on a pointless whim.”

Rescue was an instinct, a moment's unconscious reflex. Skirata hadn't even had to think about stepping between Orun Wa and the young Nulls to save them. It was simply something that demanded doing. He didn't regret a second of it; it never occurred to him that it might risk his own life, or cause endless ripples of trouble down the years, and even if he had he wouldn't have cared. It just didn't matter...It was the way of the galaxy, the best part of it, that beings cared so much for others that they did dangerous things so that someone else could live.

Arla - Mandalorian name?
ARLA FETT was first presented as as unnamed Jango's sister in Jango Fett: Open Seasons comics mini-series
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then properly introduced as Arla Fett in Republic Commando: Order 66 & Imperial Commando: 501st)
Jusik squatted down and resorted to a little mind influence, the most benign, to make her realize he meant her no harm. It was worth trying even if he was stretching their luck. Something told him he had to, and maybe it was simply that he'd walked by one inmate too many. "Ner gai Bard'ika," he said. "Tion gar gai? Gar aliit?" He'd told her his name was Bardan, and asked her name and her clan name. She stared at him. It was as if she didn't believe what she was seeing, or hearing. "Arla," she said. She glanced at the nurse as if the woman was eavesdropping. "Neyar gain Arla Vhett." It wasn't Mando'a, but it was close enough for any Mandalorian to understand. Jusik turned slowly, still squatting, to look at Skirata. The old sergeant's face was a study in suppressed shock. [...] "So who is it?" Vau asked plainly irritated. Mird watched the woman with head cocked tail slapping. "We'd better have a good reason for taking a psychotic killer with us tonight." "We have," said Jusik. "That's Arla Fett-Jango's missing sister." [RC:O66]
and who at some point became a member of the Mandalorian Death Watch (a group that killed her parents while hunting Jaster Mereel and True Mandalorians on Concord Dawn)
Jusik steeled himself to look. He was expecting worse. He wasn't sure if the dark brown mark was a tattoo, or a scar, or a branding mark, but he knew exactly what it was because he'd seen one only hours ago, or a version of it: the Death Watch emblem, the ragged winged W shape. It didn't surprise him. She'd been spoils of war as far as they were concerned, an animal to be used, and marked as their property. "A surgeon can remove that," Kina Ha said. "Would that help?" Arla pulled down her shirt again. "You don't get it. You can't guess because it's so bad." "Whatever it was, you were a child of fourteen, Walon tells me. When we're adult, we look back and judge our childhood actions by unfairly adult rules." Arla didn't turn around. "It's not a wound or a humiliation. It's a badge." "Explain." "After I was kidnapped, after it stopped being a nightmare, I stayed with them. I became one of them. I stayed. I could have run away. But I stayed." [IC:501st]
So whatever she was a direct descendant of Mandalorian Fett clan or she just "joined" Mandalorians, she can be count as one of them.
The newest sources material introduced two other Mandalorian women of the same name:
ARLA SHALE (source: SWTOR short story "Seeing Red", can be read here)
Ballag started picking fights and spilling blood to prove his strength. The latest and most daring trouble was with Clan Shale. They were an old and respected clan with the trophies and glory to prove it. The body on the screen deserved a better death with a better enemy. “What do you expect with Ballag running them?” Rass said. “He’s going to run Nerak into the ground if he keeps this up.” He scoffed. He didn’t like Ballag. Too stubborn to lead, too stupid to see it. “I’ve spoken to Arla Shale.” Jekiah said. “Fought with her during that raid on Darvannis. She’s solid but won’t let her people be treated like this. It won’t end without a lot more bodies. With Mandalore gone, we need to stand as one.”
and
“A duel?” Arla asked, her lined and scarred face betraying no emotion. Without a moment of consideration, she nodded to Jekiah. “As the Arbiter decides.” No hint of fear in her eyes, only steely certainty. Ballag hesitated. He stood a head taller than everyone. His eyes were an uncanny yellow and flicked from Jekiah to Arla, the tiniest hint of unease in his gaze. Arla was experienced- maybe not faster, maybe not stronger, but Ballag would have to be a blind to consider her an easy target. Arla arched an eyebrow at the pause.
ARLA HA'RANGIR (source: SWTOR)
Tumblr media
The closer thing to ARLA in Mando'a dictonary I managed to find is the word MANDOKARLA which means to having the right traits / spirit for Mandalorian.
Tumblr media
So I guess we can assume Arla is an old/ancient mandalorian name?

Moth fact of the day :)
Haven't done one of these in a while.
Food
The moth boys love sugar, it's not even a hidden fact in cannon the clones apparently love sugar as due to their high metabolism with accelerated aging they require on average a higher calorie count than the regular person in order to even have enough energy for the call to action on the daily.
From the Legends 501st Imperial commandos' novel we get the following wonderful scene.
"...because clones and sugary food went hand in hand. Their accelerated aging seemed to demand a lot of calories. (Pg 34)"
"Ordo had already chomped his way happily though half kilo bag of candied nuts and was starting on the second. "You'll regret that when you're beskar'gam doesn't fit anymore," Jusik said..."I'll burn this off easily" (Pg 34)"
*cries* Okay now how does this wonderful pertain back to the moth facts. Similarly, to real moths they're attracted to sweet food to not only make up for the calories burned, but also because in nature moths are highly attracted to foods with intense aromas,
This is also an inherited trait from other moths but in nature as well some moth's only way of consumption is through nectar and liquids as after they pupate their chewing organisms in their body turn into a tube like structure known as proboscis.
(don't worry the moth boys can eat normal food, they just love beer, and they'd probably love soda)
Now it's a well-known fact that many adult moths except for clothe moths don't really eat clothes, but this is an AU where I don't abide by the laws of physics so the boys can in fact get their Keratin from eating animal fibers, feathers, and other natural fibers. Primarily when in the larvae stage they love fibers, so eating it as adults gives them nostalgia, it's also a good emergency food.
I ALMOST FORGOT, A popular moth trap many use for pantry and clothe moths is wine and beer, they emit very strong aromas, and a lot of people use these types of drinks to trap and lure moths in.
On one of the moth fact sites there's this funny descriptor of:
Step 4 ID the moths that gather.
Tumblr media
Ello ello hope you've got a license for all this mothin about.

I truly don’t understand all the Kal Skirata hate out there. I’ve read the first 4 books of the series and I’m waiting for imperial commando 501st to get here so I can give that a bash and I really don’t see why he’s so hated.
he’s well fleshed out as a deeply flawed and hurt character. Hurt people hurt people, so all the mistakes he made when raising the Nulls, his role in the GAR and how he treated Etain fit his development. I like how we don’t see why he is the way he is until Order 66. We get to sit on his decisions and actions until then.
I don’t think he’s characterised as being homophobic - although it’s not a stretch to see the writer being so - I think it’s just not something on his radar. If one of his boys turned up with a nice lad on their arm I don’t think he’d even bat an eye. I think he just has ‘straight old man’ syndrome in that unless otherwise stated, he assumes everyone is straight like he is (like how I assume everyone is Bi like I am until proven otherwise)
I don’t think he handled Etain and her pregnancy well but bloody hell, give the man a break, who would?! Random ass Jedi lady decides -WITHOUT ASKING! - to get proggers in the middle of a galaxy wide armed conflict by a man she practically owns . Who the hell would be acting right? I wanted to slap her silly!
Some of y’all didn’t grow up surrounded by old armed forces men and it shows. But I did and Kal is exactly like they are - a product of their upbringing and time in service. I’m not saying he’s a saint - he definitely isn’t and knows it -I just don’t think he deserves to amount of hate he gets in fandom.
If you have any evidence to change my mind - chapter and verse please, I want receipts not head cannon - sling it my way, but for now it’s Papa Kal loving hours all day every day.

Here's why you can't exterminate us, aruetii. We're not huddled in one place-we span the galaxy. We need no lords or leaders-so you can't destroy our command. We can live without technology-so we can fight with our bare hands. We have no species or bloodline-so we can rebuild our ranks with others who want to join us. We're more than just a people or an army, aruetii. We're a culture. We're an idea. And you can't kill ideas-but we can certainly kill you.
