Scene from Gallifrey Season 2: Imperiatrix. Absolutely loved injecting some action into this!

This is a "remastered" version of the first Gallifrey comic I made. I was short on time and decided to just shade it rather than do a full colour treatment (but in subsequent comics decided to drop the shading and do colour instead). Recently, with more time and a better grasp of the characters' features, I went back and reworked it – which is why it's fully shaded (not something I intend on keeping up!)

leela crying and screaming for k9 made me actually cry

i really don't think hallan had any good options and tbh i think he was right to not let romana and leela kill themselves and to do what he could to contain the explosion.. i believed him when he said "this IS the last second" and with how quiet and defeated he sounded when they were chewing him out after i just. man. i can't stand the guy but i think it was a no win scenario and it broke my heart

romana and leela begging each other to stay strong and keep fighting despite how much they're both losing and romana saying she needs leela oh my godddddddd they make me crazy. is anyone else seeing this. also when romana threatened to set leela on hallan. uhhhhhhh yeah

watching romana struggle to stay in power for good reasons is also making me crazy i wasn't sure what to think of her desire to stay in power at first because i know the pandora thing isn't gonna go well but her motives are so correct and it's hard to say anyone is going "too far" in a fight against xenophobic isolationism lmao. but just like on a personal level she is going crazy!! it's a crazy situation!! the road to hell is very much paved with good intentions. but they're VERY good intentions.

romana having a breakdown about how she's losing power and being the president doesn't mean anything anymore and then IMMEDIATELY handing narvin his ass about losing control of the cia. delicious. planet of the hypocrites.

leela commanding narvin like a literal dog was so funny i want more of that forever

having kept a meticulous list over the first two series of Gallifrey, I can now confirm that this moment right here is indeed the very first time Narvin refers to Romana by her first name to her face

You ever think about how at the end of gallifrey Imperiatrix when Leela go to talk to Romana. That she stands before both the person who she swore to protect and also the people who she has swore to kill. How romana was not the one with the intent killed Andred but is the weapon used to kill him. How leela loses one of the only people on Gallifrey who didn’t look down on her. And he was killed by her best friend. At that point she has lost her home, her husband and her friend.

Now her only option is to leave Gallifrey and likely die or fight alongside the person who killed her husband for a world that will never accept her

underrated romana/leela moment to me is that despite leela swearing that blood will have blood & that her last purpose on gallifrey will be to avenge her husband by killing his murderer before joining him in death, she doesn't, when she learns it was romana (under pandora's control) who struck andred through his hearts she laments that she cannot kill romana & therefore she will leave gallifrey without her vengeance. like that is devotion baby, that's the unhealthy dependency that romana inspires in her friends, unflinching loyalty to the office of lord president as long as romanadvoratrelundar holds it & if she is no longer in power her closest friends will stay by her side until she regains her right as heir of dvora to rule gallifrey
