i said i would post my piano covers here, so...what better song to start with than the iconic one from psmd? :'^)
this was all done by ear (except for the beginning where i used bespinben's score because those chords are tough to figure out, so shoutouts to them)! this song holds a special place in my heart for many reasons: it's the reason i played psmd and restarted playing the piano, just to name two!
by the way, there's a little surprise at the end 😊

Oops, I think my accidental art spam of reblogging other people’s PSMD artworks has got me on the agenda to try out drawing my own main team digitally for the first time (minus Cormac last month as I’ve already drawn him). Man, I reaaaaaallly wanna draw all four of my sillies, but hey, if you’re curious, here’s the main four I wanna draw together (if I can);
Cormac - PSMD Hero and my take on the protagonist (he’s a bean who can get edgy); you can tell he’s a Mudkip
Sprout - PSMD partner and hopefully I can draw him as a floofball. Loves Cormac with all of his heart, up until when he disappeared (ahhhh uni why do you gotta be in the way, I wanna draw partner dynamic 😭😭); he’s a Bulbasaur
Harmony - PMD Explorers protagonist and feels hurt in the presence of Cormac. These two have beef (I won’t elaborate why though 😏). Has heterochromia which means he has two different eye colours - in my headcanon, he witnesses his Dimensional Screams through one of his eyes and sometimes makes him feel split between the real world and his illusory mind. Angsty bean… must DRAW!!! He’s a Riolu.
Flurr - PMD Explorers partner and Harmony’s love interest. An Eevee who acts as an extrovert after having saved the world and attaches to Harmony like super glue stuck on a canvas. She’s never not seen without Harmony, unless you bring ‘em to the Kecleon shopping mall and then all hell breaks loose… many, many Swifts later… and yes, she also be floofy.
Hopefully I can draw the four of them at some point, but ahhhh drawing with mouse is scuffed for me so not sure how long it’ll take, ahhhhhh

Hello mutual I am in your ask box >:) Anyway what’s your favorite scene from any pmd game?
god theres many, so i'll split between the two pmd games ive played
pmd2: DEFINITELY the beach ending scene. The scene before killed me, the "Farther away...." scene disintegrated me, but the beach reconstructed and shattered my heart to nothingness multiple times over. Its just....AGHHHHH
psmd: Close tie between the final Voidland scene or dark matter, but ill pick dark matter. The last boss fight in psmd has to be the best i've ever experienced. The music, the struggle and despair, the hope and determination to keep fighting, it was just MWAH! Perfect! And then finishing off with partner's acceptance, despite everything, was the ribbon on the present. Just...beautiful.

Okay, so not anipoke but I’m going to now request another character I think you’ll like: Nuzleaf (Leafdad) for the character list thing! And I’ll definitely start drawing Serena before Friday! (Also Ash really has been oblivious-)
The best character in all of PSMD and the best dad figure
This one is also a long one I'm sorry-
- I like how even though he's in a state of possesed Nuzleaf still looks out for you and (tries) to act like a parental figure to you. It feels special and hurts even more when he betrays you (ironically enough I was most surprised by Nuzleaf, and least surprised by Munna when first playing through those games) Also how after causing so much harm, he does make amends to make things better. He offered to help bring back Partner, knowing how much they meant to Hero. Also Nuzleaf fighting against DM in our boss battle was also really impactful to me. I ALSO LIKE HIS ACCENT SO MUCH (country dad rights)
- ...there's a part of me that wishes he wasn't a villian? He does seem like a Dusknoir 2.0 and I could have enjoyed his villian add more if we had some backstory or something to at least give Nuzleaf some explanation as to how he got possesed by Dark Matter. DM can get into those who have "darkness in their hearts" of any amount, however we don't know why DM chose Nuzleaf?? Was Nuzleaf a bad person before?? Had he gone through something in his life that caused darkness to be there?? It just seems like DM is a Bittercold 2.0 while Nuzleaf is a Dusknoir 2.0
- Literally all of his lines are my favorite
- Nuzleaf and Carracosta
- Tbh I personally don't ship Nuzleaf with anyone, not that I don't think Nuzleaf deserves anyone or shouldn't be with anyone. But based off of his interactions with other Pokemon (which are just Carracosta, Partner, and Hero most of the time) I can't really see him with anyone. (Though I do think Nuzleaf/Carracosta, Nuzleaf/Roselia, Nuzleaf/Simipour and etc are all cute ships. I guess if there was enough content I'd ship but it is what it is)
- Aside from the obvious child x adult ships, I don't feel strongly against any Nuzleaf pairings
- I made a whole playlist for songs I associate with Nuzleaf you expect me to choose one??? Sigh. (Miss Wanna Die)
- AND THIS IMAGE- yes he is a middle aged dad who tried to send us to hell there's no need for him to look like that😔😔

here's a list of things i love about PSMD for no reason other than i think it deserves appreciation (spoilers)
the hero gets adopted by a nuzleaf. Hero, a young child that doesn't know why they were brought into this world, attacked by beheeyem, scared and alone, finds someone that takes them under his wing and gives them a home. it's really sweet that once Nuzleaf brings them to the Village, Hero's not alone anymore.
yes it was all a trick, he deceived you. but being betrayed by your father figure hits so much harder. it's much more personal, especially when both Hero and Partner are kids. and when Nuzleaf goes through all that ordeal in the post game, then gets accepted back into the village?? And his little speech to Hero????? it's heartbreaking and incredibly touching at the same time
everything is just so cute!!!! you go to school with your new friendo and you're friends with the schoolkids, and you make the trip to school every morning taking in the scenery, the smell of dew and fresh grass, and the sun on your face... and you take classes about Mystery Dungeon mechanics, and principal Simipour is a big BRO, the school nurse Audino is super kind and helpful... and you get to play with your pokemon friendos in summer vacation, and explore a dungeon with 'em... AND your bond with your Partner begins to form, getting stronger and stronger from then on. PSMD's beginning arc is so warm and pleasant, it's like reliving childhood memories all over again, when things were happier and you didn't have to worry about how cruel the world is. this story section's one purpose is to get the player used to the game's mechanics, as well as foreshadowing. unfortunately most of the school kids get forgotten later on, but I still love this part for everything it is, even if unintentional.
it's not just the beginning that's cute. PSMD'S ENTIRE WORLD IS ADORABLE. It's just filled with life every town you go. there are a bunch of pokemon locals and they all have interesting things to say, in the main story and the post-game. there's a point where their comments get repetitive, but that's bound to happen in any PMD game. Even then, the days are never the same. one morning you wake up and the Lively Town locals are exercising, then the next they're having singing lessons, and then they're practicing martial arts. and you get to connect with (or recruit) some of them just by.... chatting!!! Sitting next to that big ol' venusaur and sharing stories, laughing and having fun. it's good stuff.
Sometimes you find travelling pokemon in dungeons and it's jsut the coolest thing. Imagine you're exploring a dungeon, then your Connection Orb notifies you there's a fellow explorer in the floor. First thing you do is try to find them, and when you do - oh dang a travelling Archeops!!!! And then they just,,,, exchange their experiences and thoughts on exploration and how hard it is to fend off those enemies and the cool treasure they found the other day (the game calls it "[Team Name] and [Traveller pokemon] compared notes"). then the traveller heals you, fills your belly and restores your PP. and they go on their way. idk man it's such a cute interaction. explorers chatting, empathizing and helping each other, bc their job is not an easy one...
PSMD Partner is the most developed Partner in any PMD game yet. They start off as this naive, hyperactive kiddo, then stuff happens, and worse stuff happens, and you get to see how they grow and change and by the end they're a different person than they were before (in more than one way ...). It's just so nice to be by their side, from the beginning to the bitter end, and watch their growth. in contrast, Hero is a little unbalanced in that their backstory is not explored as much, and their personality is kind of a blank - probs meant to be vague so the player can be in their shoes. to me this just gives you the opportunity to shape their character however you want, so you can have tons of different hero/pardner dynamics.
The music is rlly flippin' good. Some of the tracks are recycled from previous entries, but when they go original??? it's a blast!!! "Echoes of the Mystical Forest" is one of my favorites in all four entries, it has no right being so amazing for a random dungeon. "Time to Set Out" makes me cry immediately (also i think it would be a better fit for the parting ways scene at the end...). Don't even get me started on "Second Dark Matter Battle", it has everything an epic climax needs and MORE. the Partner remix????? absolute genius
speaking of which, Dark Matter ITSELF,, is freaking amazing. Its actions were foreshadowed in the very beginning, though they were not blatant through the game. i do think they could have done a better job at showing the pokemon's negativity raising in the world, as well as negative feelings in the characters... but it's not like Gates did a good job at it, either (outside of cutscenes, all the locals in Post Town are incredibly nice to you and fights didn't "break out often". it's like the game tells you the world is a dark place, but what it shows in gameplay doesn't add up). so i'll cut them some slack. Still, I find Dark Matter a more compelling villain than the Bittercold for several reasons. it is sentient. its speech is a jumbled amount of voices all talking at the same time - the anguished voices of the world. It actually concocted a plan to hurl the planet into the Sun, using pawns like Nuzleaf and Yveltal to do its dirty job. in the Voidlands, Hero and Partner discover its past, and how it'll come back after defeat, like a cycle. when Partner accepts Dark Matter, they accept negative feelings as something everyone has within themselves. Most of all, the fact that Dark Matter is a manifestation of negative feelings doesn't make it just a generic threat, a final obstacle to be defeated so the world can be saved. It makes Dark Matter - negativity itself - a natural part of the world, the yin to its yang. and that's why I LOVE IT SO MUCH DANG IT EVEN THANKS PARTNER FOR THEIR ACCEPTANCE
The fact that Dark Matter can possess pokemon that have "even the smallest amount of darkness in their hearts". it makes me think of Mr. Nuzleaf and what he might have gone through in the past to make him so easy to be controlled. Did he hold a grudge against someone?? Did he commit a crime?? Had Nuzleaf always been malicious???? And if so, is this why he shows so much remorse in the post-game??????? because he had always been this vile fiend and then he met this small kid and got attached, but still carried on with his evil actions because his malice was still stronger than the positive feelings and Dark Matter's hold on him intensified?????? I don't know!!!! and as much as i wish the game could have given us that sweet mr. Nuzleaf backstory, it's pretty fun to have freedom to come up with your own version.
Everything about Super's climax is just phenomenal. Every single flippin' legendary is there to help you. Arceus is in the game. MEWTWO IS THERE. and when things are looking hopeless, they really seem hopeless. First the Tree of Life is dying, then your allies get turned into stone and sent to hell The Voidlands, Arceus gets turned into stone, the entire world is stone (except for several mon' that are still safe and holding onto hope, but they're so few). Your Harmony Scarves stop working and you and your Partner are back to your feeble, basic stage forms. You are bordering exhaustion, you have no Emeras, it's just you and your Partner against an eldritch abomination that's killing the life on the entire planet like a parasite, devouring all hope. but you still fight back. Given how adults in the game always discourage the village children from going adventuring, that they cannot do this or that because they're so little and fragile, it's awesome how Hero and Partner beat Dark Matter as tiny kids.
PSMD is not a flawless game. in fact there's plenty of things that hold it back and i even mentioned some... but it's still full of love put into it and it resonates w me more than PMD Explorers of T/D/S and Gates to Infinity (Rescue Team is a close second). its my all-time favorite PMD game.

my thoughts and interpretations on nuzleafs arc because if i don't talk about leaf dad for long enough i explode.
darkness vs negativity kinda stuff and my guess on why he got possessed in the first place. also me going insane over the themes of this game
i think the reason why a lot of people don't like him as much as the other twist villains is because he isn't really focused on enough to truly get a grasp on what's going on with him, to the point where his character kind of gets dropped in the postgame (which sucks!!!! im very sad about it)
anyway, similar to dusknoir and munna's arcs, nuzleaf's arc is supposed to be metaphorical for something else. unlike dusknoir and munna, nuzleaf's arc is much more on the metaphorical side than the other two.
we don't get too much regarding how dark matter's possession exactly works, however it seems evident that those possessed by dark matter are at least somewhat aware of what they are doing, and can remember what they did while possessed after regaining control over themselves. this is evidenced by beeheeyem in the prehistoric ruins saying "i don't want to remember what i did while possessed" and not wanting to reveal why hero was targeted, and also by nuzleaf and yveltal saying that they "did horrible things" under dark matter's influence.
the game points out that dark matter easily possesses those with "darkness in their hearts". i definitely agree with @defendglobe 's post that there is a notable difference between negativity and darkness, and since the main theme of the game is about self-forgiveness and self-acceptance, my best guess is that "darkness" refers to self-loathing. i can give a pretty good guess on why yveltal, the pokémon god of death might hate themselves, but we don't really get anything about nuzleaf and the beeheeyem before they were possessed, so i can't say anything for certain. my best guess is that they were depressed or something bad happened to them before the main story.
what i can say for certain is that they had hit a low point just before getting possessed, which makes me think about what this whole possession thing is supposed to represent, which is manipulation. which sounds really obvious when i say it like that but lemme go into detail lol.
you kind of see this a lot in shows and movies: a character hits a low point and gets easily influenced by the bad guy to join their side. however its not usually taken to such a serious degree as psmd tried to do here. nuzleaf and the others hit a low point and were vulnerable, mentally, and were extremely loathsome of themselves. perhaps they felt that they would hate themselves less if they weren't themselves.
and psmd brings up an interesting debate at the end of the game: if you did something terrible under the influence of another, does it make it your responsibility? unfortunately this gets dropped along with most of nuzleaf's arc in the postgame (punches a wall ú_ù) but i think it's still worth exploring.
a final thing is that despite all of this, nuzleaf still seems to find it hard to forgive himself. when partner comes back to life, nuzleaf says "we actually did something right for once" (not the exact wording but whatever. i remember he says this) so basically what im saying is that if we ever get a remaster of psmd i want nuzleaf to get a special episode and be psychoanalyzed to the voidlands hell and back

Your Pokemon mystery dungeon art gives me so many feelings! I remember playing the game as a child and my main was a Totoadile and a pikachu I believe. Then I did a meowth and charmander. I have lots of feelings about this game and your art brings the partner bond to life in a way I can't explain. Love your work! Keep it up!
thank you so much ;___; pmd2 is a really nostalgic game for me, i'm always glad when i can capture those sorts of feelings in my art...
pmd2 was a game that kinda taught me that games could be.... really story based and good. don't get me wrong, i played some early zelda games along the pokemon main titles but pmd really captured my heart unlike anything else beforehand. it made me look at games in a whole different light so i owe a lot to it. when i think of pmd2 i just automatically think of the bond between the hero and partner, it was the first thing i "shipped" but tbh it's just the raw bond between the two, romantic or otherwise
i def need to draw more pmd .... i have a lot of ideas for fanart (esp pmd2 and psmd) but i keep putting 'em off :')

for the PMD ask thingy, 1, 3, 5, and 10?
1. have you played all of the games?
Yes!
I played Blue Rescue Team and the Explorers’ games by emulators back when I was a kid. Then I bought Gates and Super for the 3DS!
The only PMD games I haven’t played are the Adventure Squad ones for Wiiware. but idk if they count??
3. fav partner character?
I will protect PSMD’s Partner with my life!!!
5. whats a pokemon you would like to be able to play as or with?
i’ve always wanted to play a PMD game as a ghost type... like Yamask or Shuppet
idk i just think there’s so much story potential for a human waking up as a ghost-type, only to find out later that they passed away as a human and were reborn as a pokemon. there’s so much that could be done with that premise!!
10. opinion on nuzleafs character? also were you surprised by that twist?
i LOVE him... Mr Nuzleaf is my leaf dad!!!
by the time the plot twist came I had already thought up hundreds of headcanons of Nuzleaf’s and Hero’s familial relationship. I played as riolu (Rinko), so I imagined them becoming a family unit little by little. Nuzleaf realizing he was worried for them after failing a dungeon mission... Nuzleaf fixing his kid’s fur for a school picture... sewing dolls and scarves for her so that she doesn’t feel scared or cold... giving her piggyback rides to cheer her up... telling her bedtime stories of old legends and folk tales...
and then when the plot twist happened, it hit me like a BRICK TRUCK. I WAS SOBBING. And that one scene in the Prehistoric Ruins, where he explains how he planned everything? I was dead and buried. IN TEARS.

(but then he came back to save us!!!!! and he snuck his way into my heart again.)

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.
My theory: Partner from PSMD is non-binary.
My evidence:
When choosing sex characteristics for them during the opening quiz, it says "cool" and "cute" instead of male or female.
They are never directly referred to except by name; if they are referred to, it's as part of a group, enabling a plural "they".
Loki is a Norse God of trickery and mischief who was known for causing chaos and their ability to shapeshift. They were also genderfluid. Partner is a mischievous Pokemon who tends to bring trouble with them wherever they go (sometimes causing it) and by the end of the game is revealed to be a reincarnation of Mew, a mythical Pokemon.
As referred to in my last point, Partner is actually Mew, a mythical Pokemon. Mythical and legendary Pokemon are often depicted as genderless, with few exceptions. Mew is not one of those exceptions.
You may object to this, noting that if you choose a cute Pikachu, they'll have a heart-shaped tail. I should know about this, as that happens to be the partner in my current playthrough. However, non-binary doesn't have to present androgynously. And besides, what do you expect them to do, mutilate their own tail!?

TY FESS!!! :]
1. Favorite game(s) in the series?
definitely explorers of sky, but super is a close second! the rescue team remake and gates are also very close to my heart sgdhzgs (pmd.... good)
2. Do you prefer the 2D or 3D games (in terms of style or the games in general)?
2D for sure! The sprites were so good and had so much charm.... although I do love the watercolor texture they put over the 3D models in the rescue team remake! I hope they do smthn similar if they ever remake explorers vdhgds
3. Which final boss and/or final dungeon do you like the most (whether from a narrative or gameplay perspective)?
mmmm my gut response is to say either temporal tower and primal dialga or the tree of life and dark matter... both had such intense energies as u climbed to the top, knowing that it was just u and ur partner left to keep the world from falling into ruin (or being thrown into the sun, in super's case sgdhsgs)! The dungeon themes in both also having two sections was so so cool to me, with a driving powerful theme in the first half and a calmer, more subdued theme as u got closer and closer to the top..... man.
4. What were your hero characters like before being turned into Pokemon? What did they look like and how were their lives? Do they ever recover any of their memories?
dvdbxvzvzhs I will admit. most of my hero characters are self inserts,, there's also one thats just an older oc but he got sucked into the pmd world (so did his bf, unbeknownst to both of them) dvdjshs
my psmd hero though was a cyndaquil named Felix, (and iirc super's whole thing was that ur hero and parter both had been reborn to finish the job of defeating dark matter) so he was probably just a fairly normal human teen (who kept getting reincarnated w/o his knowledge, just at the wrong times) who very suddenly got yoinked back to the pmd world (finally the right time to save the world)!
5. Which Pokemon from Gen 7-8 would you consider potential hero/partner starter options, outside of the regular Starter Pokemon?
hm! definitely rockruff, alolan meowth, and alolan vulpix from Gen 7, and probably nickit and yamper or wooloo from Gen 8! Applin would be cool too I think sghdgs
9. Are there any soundtracks you think are underrated or overlooked, or are there unused tracks you wish were in the game?
Am I allowed to say the entire gates ost bc. The entire gates ost. I know ppl don't like gates much (and I have some complaints abt it as well) but the ost RULES.
Also really like Mt. Horn from pmd2, and Fire Mounain Volcano from super!
10. Which ending do you like the most?
SUPER'S GUT PUNCH SWITCH HURTS SO GOOD.... every previous game is like "oh your hero can't stay in this world/has to dissappear" and even in game your character is preparing for that eventuality when suddenly nope! There goes your partner, disappearing into a ball of light and floating off into the sky </3 made me bawl when I got to it the first time
11. Any headcanons that take place after the games that you want to share?
I always love the idea of ur hero and partner becoming veteran explorers and helping/teaching new adventurers, particularly if they form a guild!
Also I think that for pmd2, dialga allows (infrequent) visits between the future trio and your hero/partner :] it wasn't goodbye forever!
12. If you could change one thing about your favorite game(s), what would it be?
FASTER TEXT SPEED FOR GATES PLEASE.... that's like the number one reason I don't replay it more zgdjdhzs... also expanded post game/better pacing for super would've made it probably my fav pmd game ever ngl

The depressed grass bitches (Grovyle and Virizion, also Celebi if u want, I don't wanna overwhelm you with too many at once)
i just got a separate ask for virizion so im gonna leave her out, haha!
grovyle:
favorite thing about them: his willingness to jump in and trust people regardless of their history with him. dusknoir is the obvious example but i also love how he doesn’t even hesitate to help hero+partner escape being executed. he worries about them after they split up too, even though hero+partner were fighting against him just days ago. it really says a lot about who he is.
least favorite thing about them: how he goes through a lot of horrible shit (losing hero, multiple near death experiences, disappearing and then surviving) and never gets a chance to really grieve or process any of it. :(
favorite line: his speech in special episode 5 is engraved on my fucking soul.
brOTP: forever fucked up over grovyle+hero. i have a half written essay on this that i’ll probably finish eventually.
OTP: dusknoir/grovyle/celebi is powerful
nOTP: there’s a very specific portrayal of grovyle/dusknoir that im not a fan of. you know, that highly sexualized yandere type shit. it just doesn’t ring true to my interpretation of the two of them at all.
random headcanon: grovyle always had the same kinda passion for exploration as partner but because of his mission was never able to explore for anything other than practical reasons.
unpopular opinion: the impact of grovyle’s sacrifice in the hidden land isn’t lessened by his survival after SE5.
song i associate with them: we all go the same - radical face
favorite picture of them: we all know it had to be this. it’s just badass lmaooo
Tumblr media
celebi:
favorite thing about them: i like how she stands out! not only is she more upbeat than other characters from the future, but grovyle describes her as “a bit odd” and hero+partner don’t really know how to react to her at first. being shiny for no reason was also a gay rights move.
least favorite thing about them: she’s pretty underdeveloped aside from sacrificing her life to change the future and having a crush on grovyle.
favorite line: that line where she’s like “can you please hurry up and change the future already because im sick of this shit” because you don’t think much of it at first but after the disappearing reveal you read it in a whole different light.
brOTP: kinda silly but i like imagining how she’d interact with PSMD’s celebi. i like to think they drink tea and gossip about stupid shit.
OTP: dusknoir/grovyle/celebi slaps my ass.
nOTP: i saw celebi/spiritomb once and i didn’t like that.
random headcanon: an old one that’s close to my heart is that celebi refers to anyone she’s close to as “my dear,” not just grovyle specifically. and in general uses outdated/old lady sounding terms of endearment.
unpopular opinion: idk if i have one LMAO aside from maybe that she’s underdeveloped but i think that’s not uncommon.
song i associate with them: waiting for the end - linkin park
favorite picture of them: this spite is pretty great!

Um erm…. nuzleaf and PSMD partner
OMG YAY
favorite thing: NUZLEAF SOB... my favorite thing definitely is him being a father figure to the hero. i thought it was really sweet and towards the end too i think it made me cry the first few times..LOL but anyways i was 11 or 12 when i played this game and i latched so hard onto nuzleaf so hes like my forever fic dad😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
least favorite: honestly nuzleaf being like #secretlyevil i need to have a #whatevermumber replay of psmd cus i kinda forgot but wasnt it just out of nowhere that he was evil? well possessed brainwashed ect ect but still. this ties more into the game itself but there was no build up for the dark matter and i wish we could of seen WHY it even got to him in the first place like no signs of any darkness in his or anyone elses hearts
annoying fandom thing: OK SO THE FIRST FEW YEARS WHEN PSMD CAME OUT PEOPLE HATED NUZLEAFS ASS 😭😭like i get it he betrayed the hero but idk it was on purpose but not on purpose. set up from the beginning but he was genuinely nice during the school part of the game and he was remorseful. also hes my dad if you hate him i hate you
favorite thing: the partners character growth :3 i liked that they went from annoying and rash to more mature ? but still keeping their quirks from the school days. still silly ect ect and i feel like this is unpopular (ive seen some ppl complain about this) but i liked the reveal at the end and how they acknowledged theyre both mew and themselves like im so bad at describing but ik a lot of other media with reincarnations done similar things to this but i just liked how psmd did it especially with talking way different than before then switching to a mix of both speeches when they were talking about how much fun it was to be themself (whatever partner pokemon they were)
least favorite: help some of their decisions literally had me going NOOOOO😒😒 but its all forgiven i loooove the partner even with some of their decisuons they are perfect. also this one makes sense but it just makes me sad when they were asking if they were irritating or annoying and if you agreed or disagreed they still got upset about how annoying others say they are
annoying fandom thing: um idk. When other people think their partner is anything other than a Treecko 🙄🙄. joking. kinda sorry i have a little complex i always play with torchic (hero named peck) and treecko (partner named luck)

psmd rewritten expedition society character things
ampharos:
used to have a kid who liked to explore mystery dungeons. key word being used to
his kid isnt DEAD you guys its a pokemon game. that mf’er is lost and he cant find them
this is derived from when in chapter 12 or so partner and hero are being talked about by mawile and ampharos, and mawile says to keep a close eye on them and ampharos says something to the likes of ‘dont worry i wont let it happen again’ or whatever
was actually VERY resistant to hero and partner joining the society, unlike in the game. only when hero and partner save him from the poliwrath brothers does he reconsider this.
his clumsiness and ease of getting lost basically translates to him taking forever on dungeons. he’s a character who just does ‘whatever he wants’ in terms of ai on floors. the rest of the society tries not to resent him for wandering off so often, but it sometimes leads to tension in particularly challenging dungeons.
mawile:
has lived / second or first hand experienced all previous pmd games. she knows exactly what happened from rescue team to gti and she does not want to see it happen again. because of her trauma, she’s a bit more shut off and calculated about things. she usually uses tough love to communicate that she really, REALLY cares about people and doesnt want them to get hurt.
can you tell my mental illness is showing
mawile is an ex-dungeon mon. she was born and raised in a dungeon and was recruited into a rescue team and lived in a friend area up until the rescue team disbanded and she decided she want to go her own.
her love for archeology is inspired a lot by the fact that she just generally wants to know more about the world around her. she thinks the better she can understand natural disasters of the past, the better she can help handle the ones in the future or the present.
buizel:
ex-pirate turned guild member. quagsire (from gti) fixed him up REAL good after he was done with him. he still retains a cartoonish accent, and also likes to talk about the ‘good ol days’ out on the sea with his pals.
buizel doesn’t actually like the kids. like at ALL. he thinks they’re a chore and he’s CONSTANTLY on their case for even like, EXISTING in the society. the few times he’s not complaining about these kids is when he’s flat out ignoring them
this is resolved when they beat up entei for him. only somewhat though, then his respect is gotten but he’s still a bit rough and grumpy around the edges
bunnelby:
the most boring of the group. grew up in a underground society (like, actually underground not unknown) at a normal house with normal parents. he decided to be a geologist because like, what else are you gonna be, y’know?
probably the least chaotic and well adjusted person in the entire society, but that’s mostly because he was really sheltered. his mental health is okay.. for now
swirlix:
the same bc swirlix is just like that lol
dedenne:
MAD SCIENTIST AESTHETIC!!! WHERES THE TESLA COILS!???
has been working off the grid for most of her life, but now that she’s with the society her research on cross-world communication has EXPLODED. she is the creator of the pokemon nexus, the communication orb, and a lot of the gadgets! if something needs fixing, you either come to her or you go and find jirachi
she and jirachi get into a LOT of fights over who’s smarter of the two of them. she asserts that her engineering is pushing the boundary of modern technology, while he says that he could run circles around her in his sleep.
it’s a healthy rivalry, and it keeps the both of them preoccupied and constantly trying to one-up eachother. which means lots of progress on new inventions
jirachi:
jirachi, after being wished on by bidoof, had the idea of coming out more into public. he was moved by bidoof’s heart, and after sleeping on it, decided to move in with the society so he could do more than just grant wishes and sleep.
he has a strong connection with stars, and ever since he moved in with the society, he’s been more well in contact with legendary and mythical pokemon than ever before. he doesnt like to talk about his relationship with other legendaries very much, mostly because he’s an introvert. he just doesn’t have a lot to say
he cannot use wishes on himself. no matter how much he tries. someone else has to wish on him, and even then, it’s monkey’s paw.
his genius seems to be ‘natural’. he thinks this is because he is a mythical pokemon and has lived for dozens of years. though, he can’t remember most of his life because he was asleep for a lot of it.
