PM Modi & and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a brief discussion, and speculation for bilateral ties made the rounds

PM Modi engaged with Chinese President Xi Jinping briefly where he talked about maintaining peace and tranquillity and also respecting the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He said it is essential if both countries want to maintain peace and normal bilateral relations.

Addressing a media briefing, foreign secretary Vinay Kwatra told the details of the brief interaction between the two leaders. The two engaged in a conversation on the margins of the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) Summit in Johannesburg.

“On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, the prime minister interacted with other BRICS leaders. In a conversation with President Xi Jinping of China, the prime minister highlighted India’s concerns on the unresolved issues along the LAC in the western sector of the India-China border areas,” Kwatra told the press.

“Prime minister underlined that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas and observing and respecting the LAC are essential for the normalization of the India-China relationship,” he added.

Qwatra also disclosed that the two leaders agreed to “direct their relevant officials to intensify efforts at expeditious disengagement and de-escalation”, Kwatra said.

Those who understand the details of the matter claimed that the two world leaders engaged in several interactions during the summit. This particular conversation took place during a pull-aside on Wednesday.

South Africa’s public broadcaster SABC showed Xi and PM Modi engaged in a full conversation. However brief, this conversation between the two leaders before a news conference at BRICS on Thursday attracted a lot of viewership.

Earlier, the two had a short encounter during last year’s G20 Summit in Bali. Both Xi & and Modi were attending the dinner hosted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on November 16, 2022.

Home Minister Amit Shah replies to Chinese Claim of Indian parts of Arunachal Pradesh

Home Minister Amit Shah is on a visit to Arunachal Pradesh where he said that no one has the right to question "India's territorial integrity". His statement came in the backdrop of China naming parts of Arunachal Pradesh recently. "Nobody can take even a pin's tip worth of our land," he said.

"Gone are those days when people could encroach into our land. Now, they cannot even take a pin's tip worth of our land," Mr. Shah said as he launched 'Vibrant Villages Programme' from Kibithoo, a village located in the Anjaw district just 11 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

China has already expressed its objection to Shah visiting Arunachal Pradesh claiming it to be a violation of Beijing's territorial sovereignty. The same was confirmed by a Chinese spokesperson earlier on Monday.

Answering a question about Shah’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh, Chinese spokesperson Wang Wenbin said, "Zangnan (Beijing refers to Arunachal as Zangnan) is China's territory."

"The Indian official's visit to Zangnan violates China's territorial sovereignty and is not conducive to the peace and tranquillity of the border situation,” he added.

It is the first time that Amit Shah is visiting the north-eastern state as Home Minister. He is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

Shah asserted that India believes Arunachal Pradesh to be an inalienable part of the country and that any claim from China or any effort of giving its inventive name will not change the ground reality.

"This is not the first time that China is making such attempts, and we have criticized such attempts. Arunachal Pradesh is an inalienable part of India. China giving its own inventive names will not change the ground reality. I would like to re-emphasize that," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said last week.

Referring to Kithboo village, Shah said, "This is the area where the light of sunshine reaches first in the country. Earlier, people used to call this the last village of the country but now we call it the first village of India, that is the conceptual change PM Modi has brought."

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi once again hit out at the centre on Monday for not holding debate in the parliament over the recent skirmish between Indian and Chinese soldiers along the Line of Actual Control or LAC in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang. He alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “misled the country by saying that no one has entered our territory”.

He said that the Indian Army is very courageous and it is the Government, Prime Minister which is weak and scared of China.

“The prime minister misled the country by saying that no one has entered our territory. There are satellite images that show that Chinese soldiers have occupied Depsang and Demchok. They will continue to grab our land yet the trade imbalance with them will continue?” ANI quoted Owaisi as saying.

He demanded an all-party meet or a debate in the parliament and said, "The government should tell us what decision it is taking on China. If the government shows political leadership, then the entire country will support them. The army is very powerful but the government is very weak and is scared of China.”

 He also said that the centre is foul playing and has kept the countrymen and the opposition in the dark about the situation at the border.

"The Modi government has kept the people and the Parliament in the dark. Why is it scared of the truth about China coming out? What is Modi's interest in hiding the facts about Chinese aggression?" tweeted Owaisi and attached a snippet of a news article regarding "Chinese aggression" along the LAC in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

China Again Tells Arunachal Pradesh Its Share India China Faceoff

The Indian Army has a Sera-7 patrolling on the Indo-Tibetan international border. This place is on the north side of the district headquarter 120 km away from Daporgio.
