I have gone down a rabbit hole trying to find out the species of rosewood used for my bass guitar's fretboard, but so far it's to no avail
My guess was that since it was manufactured in Indonesia it would make sense if the wood were East Indian rosewood, but I also keep reading that that wood can smell bad, which my fretboard does not at all (it smells great, especially after I've oiled it recently, like sandalwood or toast)
It has a deep grain that looks more like Brazilian rosewood but that's been controlled for so long I can't believe that it's that, since my bass is from the early 2000s and they probably wouldn’t have been using that
Perhaps it’s an East Indian rosewood that has a deeper grain and by luck does not smell bad, I really don’t know though and wish I could figure it out

"WHY" by Marvin V. Blake is a 19th-century novel that follows the lives of two sisters, one white and one black, born in 1847 on Virginia's Rosewood Plantation. Both sisters were raised in the slave-holding antebellum South, surrounded by harsh rules and laws. The novel explores three co-existing 19th-century American cultures: the privileged world of the South's antebellum White Planter Society, the oppressed communities of black slaves, and the noble nomadic hunter-gatherer society of the Plains Indians.
What will the other sister, Mandy, choose between her lifelong love for her sibling? Or the love she develops with a Comanche warrior? Visit https://www.booksbymarvinblake2.com/ to learn more.

Orla Jareni’s lightsaber, made with maple, leopard wood, and Indian rosewood, with a spalted (beech?) stand.
Besides the hinge part, this one was pretty simple to put together, though the hinge was quite simple once I figured it out. I decided to put magnets in the bottom so it would lock itself in the long, staff form. The magnets I had aren’t very strong but it’s just about enough to hold it.
I finished it with citrus oil instead of lemon oil this time. Partially because there’s no small, fragile parts that might break off if I buff it with the wheel, but also because it has a stronger smell, as Indian rosewood has a very, distinct smell kind of like old piss which was not being covered up with lemon oil. Even the citrus oil only covered it up for about a day. It does give a shinier finish than usual though.
Orla was always a really interesting character with how she doubted the ways of the Jedi but still staying firmly in the light

"The Indian Removal Act of 1830 The annexation of 55 percent of Mexico in 1848 The forced taking of the Philippines The forced taking of Puerto Rico The forced taking of Hawaii Japanese internment camps The destruction of a thriving Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma The destruction of a thriving Black community in Rosewood, Florida Past and present-day redlining The abandonment of Black New Orleanians during and after Hurricane Katrina Predatory lending leading to the subprime mortgage crisis that wiped out billions in Black wealth
This is just a short list but, I hope, you get where I am going with this. Our American history is simply too rife with documented instances in which land occupied by people of color has forcibly been taken, preyed upon, intentionally devalued, or flat out destroyed for any well-meaning white people to roll their eyes when an old Black woman says that she believes that white people had an organized plan to take land occupied by Black people in D.C."

Erwin von Grüner 1985 "Torres"
Tumblr media
Erwin von Grüner 1985 “Torres” – nice handmade classicalguitar with great sound quality! Erwin von Grüner (1925-2001) is one of the most famous German luthiers! He was born in Teplitz. His father was an instrument maker and he also had its own musical instruments store. In 1951 his family moved to Bavaria where Erwin von Grüner started to work in a musical instrument factory which was owned by Fred A. Wilfers. The factory was specialized in the construction of violins. Soon after, in 1954, he opened his own workshop in Baierdorf and specialized in building guitars. Grüner is very well known for his inventions like the double resonance guitar and his innovative approaches to guitar making. This great guitar is a Torres style classical guitar. As is typical of the guitars made by Erwin von Grüner, this instrument is made of master grade woods. Its top is made using the best cedar, the back and sides are made from impeccable Indian rosewood. This guitars 650mm scale and 52mm nut is characteristic. The set up is great: low, fast, without buzz. The sound of this gorgeous guitar is wonderfully versatile, with a complex tone and a tremendous range of the most beautiful timbres. The sound is powerful and majestic on the one hand, but the guitar also impresses with clear, sparkling highs that give a sense of great projection. It is a very balanced guitar, with a robust, creamy quality to the sound. It also has this nice quick, bouncy responsiveness, a characteristic found in the best Torres style instruments. The hatred toward reparations for African Americans.
Salutation to my blog, I want to share my feelings on the reparations movement and the viritol that is being received by many bigoted people. This will be a long post as a disclaimer. This tweets I'll share is not for a "witch hunt," but bringing awareness to an issue not receiving enough media attention with discrimination and racism toward African Americans and reparations.
To start, the word reparation means to make amends for a wrongdoing, usually through compensation.
Tumblr media
African Americans were promised reparations (40 acres and a mule) after the horrific treatments of slavery, but the promise was never honored for all. Here is an article from PSB that discusses the topic.
The topic with reparations to me did not gain such animosity until Black Americans began to demand what is owed, and the reason is not only due to slavery. For over 400 years there have been cases of
Lynchings and the many unsolved murders
Stolen land (Tulsa massacre, Forsyth, GA, African American farmers)
Human experimentation (Medical Apartheid by Harriet A. Washington discusses this), The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment
Jim Crow Era
Racism and discrimination in the military and medical industry (e.g. Henrietta Lacks and Black women neglected in hospitals)
Redlining
Police brutality
COINTELPRO from the FBI (spying on the civil rights members and Black Panther Party)
Cases like Emmett Till, The Birmingham Church bombing, Tulsa or Rosewood massacre, The 1985 Philadelphia bombing, Frank Embree, James Byrd Jr. leading up to today with Elijah McClain, Sandra Bland, George Floyd, Sinzae Reed. Don't forget The Buffalo shooting in 2022 and the racism case for the Black Colorado ranchers experiencing racism for putting up a BLM flag.
youtube
Tumblr media
More restlessness came the more injustice happened. The topic of reparations is growing more than ever on social media. Unfortunately that brought the attention to many bigoted people on different platforms, to where I chose to take screenshots as proof:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took many screenshots, but will only share these examples I have seen on Twitter. There are many protesting reparations on Instagram, YouTube and other platforms as well.
There is constant hostility and aggression toward African Americans, yet I have NEVER seen this for other people who received compensation from America, like the Jews from the Auschwitz Holocaust, the Japanese in internment camps and also billions for other countries.
Tumblr media
This nation is known for giving out land and money to other countries and citizens here in America. From free land for Caucasians through The Homestead Act, to the G.I. Bill, to reparations given to other groups.
As a serious question to the reader who reached this far: Why are people against reparations when this country had no trouble giving out money and land to other races? I'm in favor reparations for all who were wronged, and this is no different for my people here or victims of racism and colonialism in Brazil, Africa, Australia, Canada and other continents. The fight for justice will continue, but I want a genuine answer why these people are angry against reparations for African Americans.

The *second* nicest Flying V I have photographed this year. 😉
#Gibson Custom 1958 #Korina#FlyingV, spotted at @lmmississauga during this week's Tuesday (Wednesday) Night Guitar Shopping adventure.
While the price on this one may not be for the faint of heart...it is still a tiny fraction of what a real '58 V would cost, and it felt pretty close to the real '58 I photographed back in September. In other words, a lightweight korina tone machine!
This replica features a korina body and neck, Custombucker pickups, Indian rosewood fretboard, CTS pots, phone book capacitor, gold hardware, Kluson tuners, and a vintage pickguard. Plus it comes with a really bitchin replica '58 trapezoidal hard-shell case. This is a dream guitar for me, and while I could never afford one of these myself...the person who can is going to get a seriously nice guitar.
Thanks to Pat and Brian at the shop for pulling this guitar out for me to photograph!
